YGO protags relationship between them by me~

Yugi/Judai- Yugi is actually one of few people Judai really respects, and won't go against without a very good reason, Judai kinda wants to act like a protector to which Yugi smiles politely; Yugi doesn't understand why Judai respects him to that point, but he remembers and will use it if the situation calls for it; they actually talk to each other and one day Judai will tell Yugi about the Dark world if only out of shame and wanting to be judged.

Yugi/Yusei - Yugi feels weird about Yusei, because while Judai respects him, Yusei seems to worship him, the chance of genuine connection getting lost somewhere. For Yusei, Yugi will always be ultimately a duel monsters legend and he won't be able to completely shake it off.

Yusei/Judai - they are very good friends! Enough that Yusei will open up about feeling bad about killing murderous robots and much later Judai will tell him about Dark world in details, they mostly spend time hanging out, Yusei likes telling Judai about his hobby even if Judai doesn't get it.

Yuma/Yugi- there is, thank god, no worshipping involved, because while Yuma knows of Dark Magician, he never cared to learn about old duelists, they are very casual with each other, Yuma reminding Yugi of Jounouchi, which makes him easy to hang out with. Neither really talks about their problems, but if they feel down, they will seek each other, the acknowledgement of both Atem and Astral is silent and beside basic info, neither of them finds more.

Yuma/Judai- Yuma finds Yubel much cooler than Judai, sorry, anyway, he can't shake the feeling that Judai would make a very good Barian, so he tries to cheery him up whenever they meet, they exchange their catchphrases and pull of pranks; Judai likes Yuma, he doesn't really remind him of anyone else (even if he is kinda similar to his friends, Yuma ultimately is too different).

Yuma/Yusei: they... Like each other. And that's basically it. Yuma sometimes uses Yusei as his personal tree, but Yusei's issues aren't ones Yuma usually gets caught up with and vice versa. They mostly know of each other and maybe they would be able to go for small talk, but anything more? Meh.

Yuya/Yugi- Yugi feels like an old man around Yuya; as a guy who never liked moving much, entertainment duels as an idea are beyond him and magic tricks were more of Atem's thing than his; Yuya thinks Yugi is cool, but doesn't seek contact with him.

Yuya/Judai- that's a. Complicated one. They both tried to like each other, but Yuya breathes every mental issue possible inside and acts and no matter what happens, Judai can't really get to him, which is very frustrating. Even if Yuya listens for a moment, he quickly gets possessed by egao again. Having Haou title doesn't help; Yuya is actually genuinely scared of Judai, because talk no jutsu doesn't work, ever, which is a bad sign. He also uses fusion, another bad sign; they're arguing fairly often.

Yuya/Yusei- Yusei doesn't mind people not knowing how Satellite or Neo Domino City work, but he minds other people telling him they know better, which is a situation with Yuya. He likes listening about other Crow and Jack; Yuya wants to get along with Yusei but somehow, he messes up their every single interaction so he stops trying.

Yusaku/Yugi- Yugi can sense right away that Yusaku is hurting very badly, so he tries to befriend him, fortunately he's a gamedev, so they bond over that - Yugi has ideas and Yusaku has to code, it works very well, because this is completely different kind of programming, forcing him to focus and expand his horizon, at some point Yugi gets from him the story about Ai, and in return Yusaku hears something of Atem, but will never find the whole truth. Yugi will just smile when he asks.

Yusaku/Judai- Judai is kind of cool uncle figure for Yusaku, he appears and disappears, brings gifts because he doesn't know what to do, especially that Yusaku is salty Judai has Yubel and his general idea is just to support Yusaku in whatever he's doing, without overstepping.

Yusaku/Yusei- they work well together in like, professionally, though Yusei is more of hardware guy than software, they don't speak to each other often beside their projects, but there is mutual understanding between them; though, sometimes Yusaku really gets feed up with Yusei's attitude, but he won't mention it aloud, ever. Yusei reminds him of Earth, actually.

Yuma/Yuya- Yuma firmly believes in I can fix him with Yuya. Unfortunately, Yuya is Yuya, kattobingu and egao are constantly fighting; they're somehow good friends if they don't mention their beliefs, but they bring up it often... They even started making powerpoints to convince each other. Yuma doesn't believe Yuya that arc v Kaito exists.

Yuma/Yusaku- Yuma sees Yusaku's pain right away but he doesn't really know how to approach it? So he kinda awkwardly hovers over Yusaku, brings him food, offers him talking, asks for duels (unless he notices it's a bad idea with Yusaku) and really tries to be friends without bringing up Astral/Ai although it's very obvious for him; it's not so obvious for Yusaku tho so while he doesn't mind Yuma, he really doesn't understand what's his deal is and wants it to be over

Yuya/Yusaku- so. Another problematic egao case. Yuya believes in dueling and smiles, something that Yusaku lost hope for a long time ago; Yuya still tries, shows him the best duels of his, talks about Pendulum and is very persistent about that he can change dueling for Yusaku if only he let him try; Yusaku wants goddamn vacation

Why I like them/why I don’t: HES JUST SO he just contains so much, he's so incredibly sad and scared of doing anything and yet tries so much, he just can't communicate properly and the only way he knows how to is through manipulation and deception, he has learned deep in his heart and flesh that he's monstruous and wants to be loved and adored but anything he'd do for that he sees at as a proof of his evil... he's so full of fear and leathing and kidness and courage. as a villain he's terrifying and so subtle and he just has the BEST aesthetic (mix of lovecraft stuff and alien horror and tarot... perfection...). I truely think he's the most yugioh character of all times.

What I like about their appearance: he's BEAUTIFUL right and so cute and so eerie and YET it's not like. a nice and proper way. he's strange and weird and uncanny and his beauty is both so undeniable and unique. his eyes are not just pretty, they're haunting, they're almost terrifying for how much depht is in them. Everything about him evoques something fascinating and yet a little wrong, because it adds in so many little bits of sickness. He nso clearly evoques something "wrong" and yet fascinating.

Do I prefer their dub names or original names? saiou is a very pretty name and i love the religious element and also that it might connect to "saiou ga uma" and all that... so fun... sartorius is also very pretty and fits him so well (and i love kumar. he's indian now. beautiful.). and ever since i saw those blingee i adore the nickname Sarty it's ADORABLE i love using it.

OTP: I already defended destinyshipping quite well but yeah it really has a grip on my heart... I will say though when it comes to Saiou I'm practically interesting in anything and everything there's just... so much untapped potential. I specifically love light/saiou because yay selfcest (and like the symbolism of the light's control over Saiou as a toxic lover, especially when put against Edo's own love... very dear to me). And also foolshipping... the way judai is so nice and patient with Saiou and Saiou can so easily reach out to him... "call you at 3 am because the Horrors are too much and I know you'll be normal about it" kind of relationship.

NOTP: Idk... there are already so little saiou works in the world... I'm just a little miffed when i see fics and stuff where Saiou just only exist to be abusive toward another character... I know the light is like that but at least exploit the specificities of the Light's abuse!

OT3: Yeah I already defended edo/judai/saiou over there. i also think something can be done with judai yubel and him.

Favourite card they use : ITS SO HARD WTF I LOVE EVERY ARCANA FORCE SO MUCH. Actually. Actually probably this one.

First of all because the kind in yellow is one of my favorite mythos thingie. And also because they so neatly integrated the fact the Death tarot card is often represented without its name (so it's not a monster but a trap without "death" actually on it). And also its so fitting to be used in season 4, when Judai and Saiou are facing immense change in their life and how they respectively deal with it.

Favourite moment they were in: All of them?? Absolutely every single time he's on screen?? Okay to pick something, lately i've come to really love his duel with Manjoume and how it ends... The final dialogue, that makes so little sense at first but after a few rewatch is so clear, the switch between the two side of his face, the rythm, the opposition between his tears and smile... It's such a beautiful introduction.

Least favourite moment: every single time he's not on screen. Actual no hm... I guess the final s2 duel? I don't rewatch it as much because it hurts a little to see the Light like that.

so, the thing about jun is that he's clearly a kaiba stand-in for judai's atem/yuugi. normally it would just annoy me because i'd feel like gx was just trying to capitalize on nostalgia for dm. however, what i love is that even though (at least currently in s1 as i'm still watching) their role in the story is similar (not identical!!!), they're just completely different characters. seto is that confident, is that sure of himself, is the boy and then the man he carries himself to be even if he's breaking at the seams and maybe, just maybe (/sarcasm, it's so fucking clear) he's just a traumatized and scared child who had to grow up too fast.

jun is clearly shown breaking down as soon as s1, he's shown trying to shield that clear immaturity with arrogance and pretended expertise. he claims a school as his entire fan club because he feels like nobody in his family has ever appreciated him. jun has to show himself as strong and a winner in his family's eyes because he thinks otherwise he will never amount to anything. jun was never given the chance to grow up and be his own person.

and it's so, SO interesting to me that these two have such a different yet similar vibe and backstory and still end up being their own character.

Yeah I get that vibe from him!! I actually have a random shonen jump magazine my dad got me years ago that contains a single chapter of the gx manga. I would read it over and over as a kid trying to piece together what was happening though the very limited context I had. The thrill of FEAR he felt upon finding himself BACK HERE was familiar and entirely unwelcome with how much he’d thought he’d been able to grow these past years. His support system had GROWN and he had begun to let himself ENJOY DUELING again, to let his FRIENDS in again, to let go of at least some of his GUILT over what Haou had done in his body, with his deck. He’d been able to accept Yubel back into his life and help her heal. Everything was going WELL.

Too well, evidently, because nothing ever went well for him for VERY LONG.

Juudai is quick to attempt to push his doppelganger's hands off of him, flinching at the idea of any ‘help’ the SUPREME KING might want to offer him.

the whole gist of it is asuka literally trips judai up and grabs him and asks him on a date which has judai insanely confused and scared but he just goes with it and talks with manjoume about it like "idk man im confused too, maybe she invited you too ^_^''" (she didn't.)

then they go on the date and the date is just them getting draw bread and she makes him draw them and his luck SUCKS and there is like zero romance just to be clear. manjoume is watching them and asuka gives the terrible breads to him (and he is like shoujo bubbles happy about it)

then judai and asuka sit down with their not-so-bad breads and judai is like "ok really though what's with the date" n asuka's like "what do you mean what's with the date" and he's like "i mean it's WEIRD there's something up with you. why would you ask me?" and shes like oh well because i like you. and hes like. Flabbergasted. and asuka gets kinda mad at him like "wow you cannot read the mood at All" (girl what mood u were strong arming him in the cafeteria thinking its a date!!!)

(Put some notes in parenthesis for my notes after the fact. Also I haven’t seen Sevens or Go Rush yet so I have no idea how their duelling works)

Me: Almost 900 episodes and I don’t know the rules

Me: Well okay I do know the rules but it would take me about an hour to explain them

Me: SO THERE ARE 6 KINDS OF SPECIAL SUMMONING-

Him: We’ll play dominoes. Or… Jenga.

Me: You can do them by first summoning fuckin shit monsters to the field

Me: These fuckers suck, they only exist to be your gateway into special summoning

Him: THEY ARE BUT CANON FODDER

Me: VRAINS straight up gives nearly all its non-link monsters 0 attack points.

Me: So there’s ritual summon in which you sacrifice these shit monsters to get some slightly better ones like Blue Eyes White Dragon

Me: Then there's fusion summon which combines the shit monsters into a freaky Frankenstein mutation of all their parts, like Judai's Flame Wingman.

Me: One of the shit monsters need to be a "tuner monster.”

Me: That tuner monster combines with a regular monster and adds up their levels to make a monster with a combination of their levels. ie: 3+4=7

Him: And that’s why Yuya sucks at card games.

Me: XYZ summon needs both shit monsters to be the same level as each other (there are magic cards to change their levels to make this easier) to overlay and make a decent monster.

Him: Then there’s equation summon where the square root of your monster combined with x number of monsters gives you the level of your end monster.

Him: You usually use three monsters all at once and end up with a level 10 gangbang.

Me: These XYZ monsters can also rank up (I can't for the life of me figure out how it works apart from deus ex machina) and all the numbers were XYZ monsters but not all XYZ monsters were numbers.

Me, responding to his equation summon thing: That’s what this is starting to sound like ngl.

Him: …I’m going to cry.

Him: It literally sounds worse.

Me: AND THEN PENDULUM SUMMON.

Him: I’M SCARED.

Him: It’s where you hypnotize your opponent to make him think you’ve summoned a good monster but actually it’s still the same shit monster.

Me: So basically there's a pendulum scale.

Me: You put one monster of a lower level on one end and one monster of a higher level on the other end ie: 1 and 8.

Him: And you get something between those???????

Me: Going off those numbers, you'd be able to simultaneously summon monsters through levels 2 and 7 to the field all at once.

Me: This mechanic is fucking broken and from what I understand, not even allowed in the game anymore.

Him: Yeah it makes no sense.

Me: Also, there's one magic card that was banned in the actual game and was only used by the Ignis that can further link the link monsters.

Him: You can just choose to make all your monsters linked to each other???

Me: And also why the characters do so many consecutive link summons.

Him: But wouldn’t that make the duels last 20 hours?

Me: Do you want to hear of my pain? (Note: I love VRAINS to pieces but its duelling mechanics don’t make for the most interesting thing to watch at times.)

Me: It's where they grab their fusion, Pendulum, Link, etc cards from so they don’t have to dig through their decks.

Me: It’s actually not that confusing.

Him: Okay.

Me: They just didn’t explain it properly until Arc V.

Me: Also sometimes when the special summoned monsters are destroyed, they go to the extra deck

Me: Every pendulum monster does this.

Him: …why?????

Me: And a fair chunk of the other special summoned ones unless the player controlling them sends them to the graveyard (usually to activate its effect that can only be activated in the graveyard)

(Note: I may be speaking out of my ass here. I feel like all special summoned monsters go back to the extra deck when they’re destroyed but that could just be Arc V messing with my memory because I could’ve sworn some of them go to the graveyard because some of them activate their effects in the graveyard link a few of Soulburner’s Salamangreat Link monsters so maybe it’s specific to the monster? I don’t know so I apologize if I got this wrong.)

7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

I don't look for a lot of stuff on him but... I really like when I see people use very different character to serve as his trauma-processor? Like Judai and a few others are classics but when I see development on his dynamic with Echo, or him hanging out with Johan, it's fun like. He has very unique dynamics with many characters so I'm glad it's a bit exploited.

Also i really like that everyone agrees schmaden schmuki is in top5 yugioh moment. I really want to make a compilation across languages someday.

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

His father was huge into nerd non-video games, board games, rpgs, tabletop games, just all kinda stuff. He's a tcg designer after all. So this kinda of highly nerdy stuff is a deep part of Edo's childhood and connection to his father (and i have my little general GX AU where they're practically a group of board game nerds I can place them on the rpg-board games-figurine trium virat it fits every character so well).

BUT he's more particularly into figurine stuff. As in Warhammer. Listen Warhammer is prime smart-ass edgy nerd with lots of money to spend hobby. He spends hours painting each of his mini and he has lore for each unit. Has very expensive table and decor and somehow look down on players (marufujis basically) who have more homemade stuff. He won't play against you if you don't know the exact timeline of war between X and Y faction. He's that kinda guy.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

Most fun and embarassing Edo writing moment to me is when I get to the part where he thinks how much he loves Saiou and like. it's all projection. Half of my love toward my friends half of my love toward Saiou. He's so fun to write for real i can spend an hour describind Saiou's hair and yeah it's in-character. Also I love showing bits of his issues poke out here and there. Like being a little scared of opening door.

For the part I don't like... I guess when I need to write him be a bit of an asshole to others? It's a bit hard writing characters being mean but it's kind of necessary for pre/early-s2 Edo.

In this story, Jaden/Judai Yuki just smacks the shit out of everyone and gives everyone a redemption arc.

Here comes one of my personal favourite stories I have ever made. Hope you like it. 

Crowler asked Syrus on what field spells do, but Syrus didn't say anything because he was scared.

"Typical for a Slifer Slacker like you," said Crowler as then every Obelisk Blue and Ra Yellow laughed.

This pissed Jaden off so much that he jumped over the tables and slapped Crowler across the face.

Everyone was silent and scared on what will happen next, but no one, expect Jaden, expected that Crowler cried and hugged Jaden.

"I am so sorry! I realize that I am a terrible teacher and it doesn't matter on what colour jacket you wear!" yelled Crowler as everyone eyes widened and the Slifer Reds dancing that someone taught him that lesson.

...

"I'll teach you that you slapping Crowler was a mistake," said Chazz, but he didn't see Jaden on the opposite side of the duel arena, but in front of him.

Jaden just smacked Chazz across the face and then Chazz was on his knees.

"I should stop being this arrogant dick and stop listening to my abusive brothers!" said Chazz as he was crying.

...

The expulsion duel didn't happen because of Crowler's redemption arc.

...

Jaden was dueling against Syrus, to no one's shock, he won, but then Syrus started that Zane was right that he didn't belong here.

"Sy, look at me," said Jaden as Syrus looked at him, only to get slapped across the face.

"You're right Jay, just because I lost one duel doesn't mean I am worthless. And that I should stop being in my brother's shadow!" said Syrus as Jaden was happy, but then he had an idea.

...

KNOCK KNOCK

"Now who could that be?" asked the best duelist in Duel Academy, Zane Truesdale, as he opened his door.

He saw Jaden, but he didn't see a hand behind him.

"What are you here for-" asked Zane as then he was slapped.

He fell on his knees, "I am such a terrible brother!" yelled Zane as then the rest of the Obelisk Blue came to see what happened.

The thing that they saw was a first, Zane on his knees in front of a Slifer Red.

"I am not fucking with him!" yelled a random Obelisk Blue.

...

"Well a deal's a deal," said Chumley's dad, but then was slapped across the room by our favourite Slifer Red.

"My god! I am so sorry Chumley, you can stay here!" yelled the koala's dad.

...

So many filler characters were slapped by Jaden and are now atop of their class, like Dimitri, Damon and Brier.

...

For some reason, Chazz was now a North Academy student so he can duel Jaden in the school duel.

He lost, but then Slade and Jagger Princeton came to Chazz so they can beat him up. They were stopped as Jaden teleported and slapped the shit out of them.

"How are we such terrible brothers?! We shouldn't put so much pressure on you?!" yelled a crying Slade.

"Cmon' Chazz, let's get ice cream," said a crying Jagger as then they left DA.

...

For the rest of the school year, Jaden didn't slap anyone to their redemption arc, but those clean days were gone as soon as he had to duel Kagemaru.

"With these Sacred Beasts, I can rule the world!" yelled Kagemaru, but his tank was opened by Jaden and was slapped.

"I am a terrible person! I shouldn't to these terrible things to you students!" yelled a old saggy man in a tank so he can live.

He returned to a hospital as soon as possible.

...

Now it was Jaden's second year and not even a week later he had met a sargent wannabe.

"If you want these duel disks back you gotta duel me, son!" yelled Hassleberry.

"Oh, he is so gonna get slapped," stated Syrus as then Hassleberry's troop looked at him confused.

"What do you mean by tha-" asked one of Hassleberry's troops, but then Jaden jumped across the bridge and slapped Hassleberry.

"How can I think that I can be the best if I don't change!" yelled Hassleberry as he then started bowing down to Jaden, "Forgive me, Sarge!"

...

Jaden dueled Aster, but before he can slap him he lost.

...

After the best acid trip ever made, Jaden got a new deck which with it had a rematch with Aster. And he slapped him.

"I shouldn't let my ego and anger control me when I learned about my dad's disappearence!" yelled Aster as he hugged Jaden.

...

Jaden and the crew watched Crowler and Bonaperte duel if the Slifer Red dorm is staying.

"Once I beat you, the dorm is getting destroyed!" yelled the french midget.

Jaden walked to Bonaperte and slapped him.

"My selfishness about the image of the school was the worst part of me, sorry if I misjudged you," said the french teacher.

...

After half of the school was made into cult members and a school trip, Jaden slapped a lawyer, a New Yorker, the sister of this season's villain, a doll etc.

...

"Tomorrow we duel!" yelled the mindcontrolled Chazz, but was then slapped.

"Wait what happened and why am I wearing white!?!" yelled the now confused Chazz as he then looked at Jaden.

"Find the Ojamas and return to the Slifer Red dorms," ordered Jaden.

"Yes sir!" yelled Chazz as he saluted. He ran to find the Ojamas and got himself back the fish reaking jacket.

...

Atticus was dueling against Zane who was acting all weird.

After the duel, Jaden appeared in front him and reached for Zane's face.

"Oh no, not again!" yelled Zane as he was slapped.

"I should respect my opponents and not let them participate my kink while dueling," said Zane as then looked at him, "What?"

...

"If I win you give my the key!" yelled the mindcontrolled Alexis, but was slapped across the halls to Fontaine's office.

"What the hell happend?!" yelled Alexis.

...

After Jaden slapped Ojin, Aster getting Plasma and losing against Sartorius, Jaden had to duel Sartorius.

But we all know what will happen so.

Sartorius was slapped all the way at the door of the mansion of Obelisk Blue's.

"What happened?" asked Sartorius as Jaden, Aster and Syrus ran up to him.

...

"Jady!" yelled Blair as she saw Jaden in the biggest room in Slifer Red and then she ran up to him.

"Blair, I have to say something to you," said Jaden as Blair got exicted on what will happen, even though there were people in the room. Jaden just gave her a light smack.

"I am an idiot! You're too old for me, it would be weird!" yelled Blair as she then fell to the ground.

"And gross," stated Chazz.

Many people agreed to that.

...

Jaden didn't have to slap anyone for a month. A new record!

However before he could smack some sense into Cobra, he died to Yubel.

...

After the nightmare known as the Duel Dimension, Jaden and Jesse were dueling against Marcel.

Before Jesse's turn could end, Jaden ran up to Marcel and slapped the Yubel out of him.

But she took Jesse to an another dimension.

...

When he was the Supreme King, Jim Cook tried to slap some sense into Jaden, but was slapped back harder.

"Don't even think about it!" yelled Haou.

...

Jaden was dueling his best friend, Jesse Anderson, who was controlled by Yubel. So his best idea is to slap Yubel out of him, it worked, but he had to duel her.

...

After learning about his past, Jaden thought the best idea is to use Super Polymerization on him and Yubel, but before they could do that, Jaden slapped her before the fusion between the two.

...

Jaden was now better, older and wiser, but his strategy was to slap the shit out of his opponents.

Case in point, Truemans.

He slapped the Truemans.

All of them.

...

Everyone is now gone, he was the last one standing. The last hope of humanity.

He had to duel Satan himself, NIghtshroud.

Jaden wasn't having any of that as he ran up to him, jumped and gave the strongest slap known to mankind.

It was so powerful that everyone returned back to Earth while also having their own redemption arcs.

Nightshroud was gone, no more was he there.

And that was the story of the new King of Games, Jaden 'The Slap' Yuki.
