4. Height: 5'4”
5. Time: has no meaning
6. Birthday: April
7. Fave Bands: Here’s where I always say Dave Matthews Band simply b/c I unwillingly know every song they’ve ever done courtesy of an ex-boyfriend who was in physical pain if Dave wasn’t playing at all times, and yes I do mean, AT. ALL. TIMES. Not coincidentally DMB is who I saw the only two times I’ve ever been to a concert, both of which times I was extremely intoxicated in preparation for hearing Ants Marching or whatever the hell for the 50th time. But really, I got nothing here, I’m just not much of a music person.
8. Fave Solo Artists: Anything I put here would just be a lie.
9. Song stuck in my head: The Siren Scream of One Billion Cicadas.
10. Last Show: I binged Shrill, Season 3 this weekend. Damn, Aidy Bryant is the shit and Lolly Adefope is hysterical. I was kinda taken aback how they ended it tho - guess they didn’t know it would be the last season?
11. Last Movie: Hobbes v. Shaw aka Fast and Furious 10.5? Or is it considered an AU? God it was so stupid. Loved it.
12. When Did I Create This Blog: Hmmm, 2016ish? I literally lurked for years tho before posting anything.
13. What Do I Post: I’d classify it as “nonsense that charms me” + Good Girls reblogs.

29. Last Book Read: Baseball for Dummies. I will learn, understand, and be able to articulate the differences between a slider, cutter, and change-up if it kills me.
30. Top 3 Fictional Universes I’d Like To Live In: Parks & Rec, Vampire Diaries, The Matrix (but like, IN the Matrix, not in the real world outside of the Matrix eating slop and wearing an oversized fisherman’s sweater dodging Sentinels in a tin can ship. Hard Pass.)

list 10 different female faves from 10 different fandoms
got tagged by @lightdescending!!! Thank you!!! Putting answers under a cut in case this gets Long (update: It Did)
Faith (Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel) - A formative archetype, for all that Joss Whedon turned out to be a creep and it kind of shows in how his characters are written. But honestly, there's how they were written and how they were received, and Faith has become so much more than how she was written. My younger disaster gay self was instantly vibing.
Tamsin (Lost Girl) - One word: Valkyrie. Two words: Drunk Valkyrie. A broken ancient warrior wandering the world as a mercenary, cynical and hardened, who proceeds to fall in love with her mark because her mark is The Real Deal? Iconic. A bisexual foul-mouthed murder lady who swigs vodka and then kills things? Effervescent. And she has WINGS???? There were many things about this show that (a) did not age well, and/or (b) were Not Great when they first aired, but Tamsin was. Influential to how I write and the fandom had a huge impact on me personally. I have a Character Type, and BOY HOWDY is Tamsin the mascot.
Brunnhilde | Valkyrie (MCU) - When Tamsin died at the end of season 3 of Lost Girl, I had a minor existential crisis because Valkyries canonically reincarnate, and I could not imagine another actress doing what Rachel Skarsten did with the role. And then I watched Thor: Ragnarok, and I am convinced that Skarsten's Tamsin is but an imitation of this Valkyrie. I know, I know; Lost Girl ended years before Thor: Ragnarok came out. But I don't make the rules.
Dutch | Yalena Yardeen (Killjoys) - She's just. I just. So. I watched Ant-Man and the Wasp, right? I watched it because I knew Hannah John-Kamen (the actress who plays Dutch) would be in it as Ghost. I did not watch the first Ant-Man movie. I have no plans to watch any Ant-Man 3 movie unless HJK is in it again. Technically, Killjoys is about all three of the main Killjoys (Johnny, D'av, and Dutch)--but the show is Dutch's story and Dutch is. How do I even describe her? "Badass" is not a strong enough word. There are similarities to other earlier characters on here--she's not as drunk as a lot of them, she can't afford to be, but like a lot of other characters on this list, she exists on the margins of the society she lives in (as a bounty hunter), and she is deeply, deeply cocky. But her story is also so much about self-determination and choosing how to use her deadly skill set after a truly horrifying childhood, about not being a pawn in anyone's plan anymore, and I can do absolutely nothing but respect and love her. And Hannah John-Kamen.
Wynonna Earp (Wynonna Earp) - What a fucking mess of a human. I love her so much. A very Gideon Nav kind of human who comes back to the town that had her committed to a psych hospital and gave her electroconvulsive therapy for refusing to lie about the horrors she'd seen and now, she finds herself bound to defend them. She is the hero of the show. End of story.
Kara Danvers | Kara Zor-El (Supergirl (2015)) - After reading this list, you may think that this is a departure from my Very Predictable Wheelhouse of drunk murder ladies, and you are correct! This came as a shock to me, too, because I almost never feel any kind of emotional connection to female title characters--I connect with Faith before Buffy, Tamsin before Bo, etc., and I know that at least part of the reason for that is the kind of gendered expectations placed on female title characters by our media, the kinds of stories they're allowed to embody. But Kara is the exception, and What A Fucking Exception. It's very predictable for me to love Gideon Nav; but Kara Zor-El is a Sunshine Character, and I have a deep love for her. Possibly because, while she is a Sunshine Character (ha ha, yes, pun), she is also just so profoundly genuinely kind, and it comes from profound and genuine grief and rage and loss, and it makes her sunshine-y -ness feel like more than a platitude. I love messy characters, but I also love Genuinely Good characters, and Kara Zor-El is so genuinely good. (This is also the exact kind of character that I love to pair with characters like Tamsin)
Grace Harper (Terminator: Dark Fate) - BUTCH REP BUTCH REP. (Accidental) BUTCH REP. Also, Mackenzie Davis. Grace gave me so many gender feels, and her complete unhesitating devotion and loyalty is *clenches fist* So Good
Camilla Hect (The Locked Tomb Series) - Why do I love her so much that I'd pick her out of all the Locked Tomb ladies to include on this list? I do not know. I only know I have a soft spot for gruff badasses who share their food with people. Also it helps that she dual-wields (yes, that is a euphemism, but also no, it is not a euphemism)
Alice (CW's Batwoman) - Another Rachel Skarsten character, because Rachel Skarsten is a Fucking Delight and Alice is just. *chef's kiss*
Mara (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) - The other Sunshine Character on this list, and I think I love her for similar reasons to why I love Kara? She's good, and kind, and noble, and so much all of those things it hurts. It would have been easy for her to be (and with any other people running the show, she probably would have been) uncomplicated and kind of boring, but instead she was moving and tragic and beautiful and I love her, thanks for coming to my TED talk. Also: She gives me distinguished older queer vibes, and my not-nearly-so-distinguished slightly-older queer self connected with that for some reason.
If you made it through all of that and you'd like to do this, consider yourself tagged! And I'd like to see what your answers are, so if you do do this, feel free to tag me! Tagging (with no pressure to do it but just inviting you to join in): @diaryreadingcat, @queersintherain, @nike-ravus, @the-evil-queen-14, @the-consequences-of-salt, @makutas-chronicle, @generalalder, and uhhhhhhh anybody else who wants to pass this around
#meme#character tropes#thanks for reminding me that tamsin is my actual archetype for everything lololol#*writes about tamsin* ohhhhhhh that's *checks notes* also dutch and faith and valkyrie and wynonna and andy and sarah connor and huntara a-#i am gay and extremely predictable

list 10 different female faves from 10 different fandoms, then tag 10 people
Tagged by the lovely @chocochipbiscuit . I’m a little late to the game, but let’s see what I can come up with. In no particular order: 1. Komugi (Hunter x Hunter) A blind teenage Gungi champion (like chess but infinitely harder)-- hold on, did you hear me when I said she was blind? She beats the shit out of everyone at this board game without seeing a thing. She’s the breadwinner for her whole family, but they don’t even care about her. She gets sacrificed to the Chimera Ant King because he’s bored, and then she’s so damn talented and nice that he ends up developing real human feelings and not murdering everyone. TBH one of my favorite things about her is her design: big old pigtails, dark bushy eyebrows, and snot running out of her nose constantly. She’s not a beauty but you love her, and I cry all the time. 2. Moira Brown (Fallout 3) She’s just so damn cute and cheerful! She’s a trader, inventor, and probably a lot else, and she always has something fun and nice to say. I just love how positive she is, even though (or maybe because) it often comes off as childish or purposefully obtuse. I think a lot of Fallout fans find her annoying, so it makes me happy that if you bomb Megaton, she’s the only one that survives. =D 3. Cassandra Pentaghast (Dragon Age) Be still my heart! Cassandra is such an underrated character. I love her sharp somewhat-masculine design. She’s a hardened warrior with a strict personality!-- but when you get to know her, she’s very sweet and has deep insecurities. She’s extremely sincere, which is one of my favorite things in a character. Also, she has a charming secret romantic side. <3 Again, I think a lot of people don’t like her, and that’s a real shame. 4. Nice Robin (One Piece) Imagine having such a rough childhood and still being a good person at heart. Of course one of my favorite things about Robin is that she’s not an overtly sweet bleeding-heart type; she’s calculating and logical, and polite, kind, and loyal. She’s goal-oriented with a very chill personality-- probably so easy to get along with, although she’d call you out on your shit too! But she wouldn’t let that ruin your friendship. Also, she has a very morbid sense of a humor, and a weakness for cute things. (Just, what she considers cute might not always be what everyone else does.) 5. Hatori Chise (Ancient Magus Bride) A relatable depression-feels character. Everything went wrong in her childhood, and it’s obvious that her mistreatment still affects her all the time, which drives the whole story. Even though the anime is about magic and monster romance, the real story is about Chise (with Elias) learning to grow past all their traumas, and holy crap it touches me so deep. So many lessons to learn from her, watching her go from having no sense of self worth, no desire to live, to awkwardly forging friendships and helping herself through helping others. All my cries! (Also, her design just... simple and perfect (and redheaded).) 6. Aloy (Horizon Zero Dawn) Do you know I think I’d die if Aloy smiled at me once? I’d also be okay if she bossed me around a little. I mean, can you get any more wildly beautiful? Not to mention saving the world pretty much single-handedly. She doesn’t take shit from anyone, and never gives lip service. She’s harsh! But she’s also kind. She gives people what they need, not what they want. As all her would-be suitors know, that’s a very attractive quality (especially when you’re a man who’s floundering in his own misery and failure and she just swoops out of nowhere to stylishly rescue you). 7. Rosalind Lutece (Bioshock Infinite) An absolute paragon, pioneering practically impossible science in the 1920′s. She was responsible for the floating city, for traveling between dimensions, and, well, for the whole game. So absolutely stylish and no-nonsense, but with a clear sense of humor. And then there’s Robert... Rosalind is so literally peerless that the only person she really respects is her mirror image, ‘separated by a single chromosome’. I find them very beautiful and tragic. 8. Honda Tohru (Fruits Basket) Can you say role model? I have been charmed by Tohru since my teenage years, when my mother had just died and I felt like... how was Tohru so kind and good and optimistic when she’d just lost her mother and her house? Every setback was like an opportunity for her to better herself or help others. She always always tried to see the best in every situation, and I will always admire that~! 9. Yamato Rinko (Ore Monogatari) A girl with some taste! When the main character Takeo saves her from being groped on a train, she immediately falls for him, as one should! Everyone else thinks he’s big and scary and off-putting, but she knows how kind and sincere he really is, and appreciates him like he deserves! She clearly tries her best to be a good person, and it’s wonderful how much she and Takeo are on the same page (even though he’s a little dense sometimes). Also, she’s a killer pastry chef! Those cakes, man. 10. reserved because I swear there was someone right on the tip of my brain and I’m gonna remember later, I know it No tagging, but please feel free to do this yourself. I know you wanna talk about some awesome ladies!

Some Romance Novel Recs for Valentine’s Day
I don’t think many ppl who follow me read romance novels, but! for anyone who does, or who would like to try some bc they like shippy fanfic or want to try a new genre, here is a list of recs for Valentine’s Day, a day of romance. I tend to like romances with high levels of conflict--melodrama, thriller subplots, etc--but a few of these are also fluffy. Kind of a mix.
F/F
With This Ring by Cynthia Dane**--high society lesbian marriage of convenience
Off Limits by Vaness North--forbidden romance with a bar singer
A Treason of Truths by Ada Harper--sci-fi queen/spymaster ship, lots of intrigue
Rulebreaker by Cathy Pegau--sci-fi corporate espionage romance
Hungry for It by Fiona Zedde**--forbidden romance with a friend’s mother
M/F
Wanna Bet? by Talia Hibbert**--Player FMC and her best friend who’s been pining after her for years
Against the Dark by Carolyn Crane--Secret agent and safecracker pull a heist and fall for each other
That Kind of Guy by Mina V. Esguerra--Exes reconnecting. Mellow, largely about FMC considering what she wants from life.
Redemption by Kenya Wright--FMC escaping abuse meets a man with a dark past who offers her protection
Ante Up by Christina C. Jones--Rich alpha male gambler meets not so rich but better than him female gambler, sparks fly. Actually very angsty and pretty dark. I read this book tonight :) It’s definitely a pageturner.
M/M
The Undue Arrogance duology by Cole McCade**--Two books, both about rich dudes with issues who want to get dommed
Curses, Foiled Again by Sera Trevor--A vampire and an unintimidated witch
Any Old Diamonds by K.J. Charles**--Victorian diamond heist with BDSM in the background
Reason Number One by Briston Brooks--Intensely tropey college romance. (I read this a while back and don’t remember it super well, but I remember it was sappy and fun.)
Other
One Night in Boukos by A.J. Demas (m/m and m/f)--Two dudes search for their boss in a fantasy city, and find love instead
From Scratch by Katrina Jackson (m/m/f)--Sometimes you move to a new town and start a bakery and hook up with two different guys I guess
I’ve only put one book per author here (otherwise this list would be a lot longer), but I’ve starred a few authors! These authors are faves of mine and honestly I’d recommend anything by them. Cynthia Dane (aka Hildred Billings, as she has two pseudonyms) is excellent for f/f millionaire romances with alpha females who can be kind of jerks. Fiona Zedde is good for f/f that isn’t afraid to get dark, uncomfortable, messy, vulnerable. (Actually my fave book by her, Nightshade, is more erotic thriller than romance and so did not make this list, but she’s great in general.) Talia Hibbert writes m/f romances with characters you just have to root for, relationships that feel warm but MCs that feel complicated. Cole McCade I mostly know for his Criminal Intentions series, which is a mystery series with a gay romance subplot--I’d absolutely recommend that series but know going in that it’s really dark and the burn is slow as hell. And K.J. Charles you’ve probably heard of, as she’s well known for her m/m historical romances, and the hype is deserved; her books are really just a ton of fun.
Anyways, I just thought I’d throw these out here since it’s Valentine’s Day :) If anyone wants to recommend me romance novels, feel free to go ahead.

I've been tagged by @declanmacmanus and @thewaifupillow because I answered too slowly
1. Have you had a good day so far today?
Not really, I had a headache the entire day (still do), cancelled roleplaying due to lack of players, and I had to fight the ants again. They're persistent bastards.
2. What's something you wish you could tell your younger self?
To calm down. When you burn out it takes years to come back, so don't do it. It wasn't worth the grades to be unable to function for so long.
3.If you could share one song with someone for them to understand you, what would it be?
It isn't a one song kind of thing... Some days are more Somebody to Love - Queen, and others are To Noise Making (Sing) - Hozier or Sing Me a Song - Count to Fire, some days you wish it was Wouldn't It Be Nice - The Beach Boys, but more often it's Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Judy Garland.
4. A song people maybe wouldn't expect you to like but you do?
Boogie Woogie Wu - ICP because I am just a little bit down with the proverbial clown.
5. Describe your go-to pair of shoes?
Thick sole, dark color, waterproof and high enough that the waterproofing matters.
6. Do you have a picture / poster in your room? What of?
I have a glass orb that fits in my hand, I have a training sword, I have books, I have a keyboard, and I have miniatures, all of which serve to beautify my space (many of them have other uses too). But no, no posters.
7. What's your favorite software?
I am a sucker for a good notepad++ or clones thereof. HTML? Coding? Fiction? Slap it in that minimalist text editor! But with highlighting though, I am not insane.
8. Do you own nail polish / fave color of nail polish?
Only own black, but man, if I found the right purple shade? I'd buy that shit in a heartbeat.
9. Favorite herb / spice?
Ginger is an herb, right?
10. Do/can you lucid dream?
Sometimes I wake up, go back to sleep and get a moment of lucid dreaming before I wake up again. Rarely, but it happens.
11. Summer or winter?
Winter is clean and crisp, the nights are actually dark, no gross sweating for the crime of existing.
12. If you could relive a day of your life, would you? When?
I barely remember what I did yesterday. My memory wasn't really great before I crashed, but it's garbage now. I live in a vacuum, no past, no future, just the vague sense of being supposed to be doing something. No, I don't think I would.
13. Favorite historical era?
70s really was popping music wise, so I guess that's the pick here.
14. A common misunderstanding people have of you?
I am large. Some people have found that intimidating in itself, but I have no experience or desire to be physical. Also depending on context you might think I am mostly quiet or mostly obnoxiously loud, but the truth is I am only loud when I get worked up and I really can't hear how loud I am.
If this looks fun to you*, you can consider yourself tagged!
* you, the person reading this

Top 10 Personal Favorite Hit Songs from 1989
Picking a #1 for this list was tough.
Obviously my first-hand experience of “hearing songs on the radio and actually liking some of them” starts when I was around 3 or 4, so nostalgia will have very little to do with the first top 10 lists I’m making.
Disclaimers:
Keep in mind I’m using both the year-end top 100 lists from the US and from France while making these top 10 things. There’s songs in English that charted in my country way higher than they did in their home countries, or even earlier or later, so that might get surprising at times.
Of course there will be stuff in French. We suck. I know. It’s my list. Deal with it.
My musical tastes have always been terrible and I’m not a critic, just a listener and an idiot.
I have sound to color synesthesia which justifies nothing but might explain why I have trouble describing some songs in other terms than visual ones.
Surprisingly not a very good year, at least for my tastes.
10 - Like A Prayer (Madonna)
US: #25 / FR: Was apparently on the list but I have contradicting sources
I had a very (and I do mean very, two months at best) brief Madonna phase back when she released Die Another Day because I absolutely loved that song that a shit ton of people seem to hate. So I found a Madonna best of for 1€ in a garage sale and decided to listen to more stuff from her. This song was one of my faves but it wouldn’t be the complete truth ; actually, I loved the last third of the song, the bit where the music starts to turn epic and the choir swells and everything. The rest of the song? Well, I found it boring, so I used to skip it entirely most of the time.
Is one third of a song enough to get a spot on this list? I wouldn’t say so in another year, but since the choice is pretty slim for this one, I’d say it’s fair game this time.
9 - Il Changeait La Vie (Jean-Jacques Goldman)
US: Not on the list / FR: Again, it’s there but I have contradicting sources
I don’t have much to say about this song. It has a weirdly epic melody for a song about a guy who makes shoes. It’s mostly there by default too because Goldman made way better songs before and after that one.
8 - Smooth Criminal (Michael Jackson)
US: #93 / FR: Was apparently on the list but I have contradicting sources
Like many people of my generation I wasn’t there for Michael Jackson’s best part of his career and he was already considered a sad has-been by the time I started to actively listen to music.
What I’m trying to say is that I discovered this song mostly through the Alien Ant Farm cover. I know, I know. But hey, I still love the original.
7 - She Drives Me Crazy (Fine Young Cannibals)
US: #18 / FR: Was apparently on the list but I have contradicting sources
I remember my dad really liked this song and would play it from time to time. Like many other songs from when I was very young, I have vague, distant memories of hearing it a lot years later and enjoying it every time. I still like this particular one a lot, too.
6 - Listen to Your Heart (Roxette)
US: #22 / FR: Not on the list
Basically, everything I said about the previous song applies to this one, too.
Moving on!
5 - I Drove All Night (Cindy Lauper)
US: Not on the list / FR: #36
Just like Smooth Criminal, you will not like the reason which put this particular song on this list. It’s mostly here because of the Celine Dion cover that came out years later, around 2000 or so. I liked it so much at the time that I bought the single and played it quite often.
The original is much better and that goes without saying but... yeah.
4 - Personal Jesus (Depeche Mode)
US: Not on the list / FR: #11
I’m really glad the French charts thought so highly of this song, but at the same time, it’s not one of my favorites from Depeche Mode. Hell, it’s even my least favorite song on the Violator album. I usually love repetitive & aggressive songs but this one kinda stays at the same level from beginning to end, and said level isn’t very striking visually.
Still very good, and it’s incredibly tense, and the lyrics are weird and interesting. So yeah, it deserves this spot.
3 - Hijo De La Luna (Mecano)
US: Not on the list / FR: #18
There’s a ton of versions of this song, including one in French, and both that one and the Spanish version would play on the radio long after they became a hit - I have vague and distant memories of me playing with plastic dinosaur toys and hearing that song on the radio regularly for years. Weirdly enough, I remember the Spanish version was played way more than the French one on the radio, but it’s a good thing because it sounds much better.
Long story short it’s about a woman who sells her firstborn to the Moon in exchange for the returned affection of the man she loves, and he ends up killing her because their child is moon-colored and he believes she cheated on him.
It’s messed up, but in an interesting way, and the melody is great.
2 - Lullaby (The Cure)
US: Not on the list / FR: #17
I’m really surprised this didn’t make the year-end list in the US because it was really big in England and Europe in general, and we still hear it on the radio in my country from time to time.
Surprisingly enough, this isn’t one of my favorite Cure songs even though Disintegration is my favorite Cure album (I had to cut Lovesong from this top 10 because it’s not one of my faves either, put it as a honorable mention I guess) (also yes, I cut a Cure song to put Madonna on this list. What the f█ck). I’m not even sure why exactly, but I think it’s mostly because that breathless thing Smith does when he sings this particular song is a bit painful to listen to on repeat. The music is amazing though, it’s gloomy but full of little colorful patches everywhere and it’s real eye-candy.
I debated if Lullaby should be #1 for my 1989 list and at some point it was, but in the end, “I love this song but it’s slightly painful to listen to on a loop” lost against “I like this song a bit less but boy was it stuck on a loop on my cd player at times”.
1 - Poison (Alice Cooper)
US: #91 / FR: Was apparently on the list but I have contradicting sources
Woohoo. Look at that. What a surprise. The ex-edgy teenager put Poison at #1.
I know. I’m sorry. I’m a sucker for stupid edgy shit that you can sing angrily along with while walking and this is no exception. Wasn’t ever on my list of favorite songs (none of the songs in this top 10 ever were), but it was on a couple of my tapes, and yeah, I distinctly remember listening to this around 2005 or so while walking, and striking poses and singing along when no one could see me.
Haven’t actively listened to it in years but I definitely still sing along when it pops up on the radio in my car.
Next up: an absolutely abysmal list with only three (3) songs I actually like on it.

3x14 Review
Hey so for once this is actually super positive! I loved this episode and can’t wait to gush about it! So without further ado, I’m gonna get the stuff I quibbled with outta the way before diving into what I liked:
The Bad: — I think my biggest problem overall was that scene between Alec and Lorenzo. I understand Alec was being protective and he goes into Fierce Mommy Tiger mode around those he considers family and those he loves (I think it’s important to show that Magnus isn’t just his boyfriend, Magnus has become integrated into the thing Alec bases his life around). But I had hoped Alec would have figured out by now that a Nephilim threatening to depose a Downward leader over an apartment is…..unideal, at least. — I get that this may have been designed as a plot hook as an understandable yet stupid thing Alec does that comes back to bite him later (i.e., if there is a Downward civil war in New York, and Lorenzo decides to fuck Alec over). Alec’s strength and weaknesses are tied to his family, and I think it’s a very believable mistake for him to make. I don’t expect him to be perfect, I just hope the narrative treats his threat to Lorenzo as less of a “pure uwu cutesy bf” move and more of a mistake, even if Lorenzo is being cruel to Magnus. — Honestly y’all I expected something WAY worse. Losing the apartment was nothing compared to the drama I expected—I thought Lorenzo was gonna ask Magnus to spy on Alec or go back to Asmodeus or something awful. Thankfully that was inverted by a very obvious attempt to get Magnus to move in with Alec, because apparently he can’t buy a new house with all his money. — I also quibbled a little with how Clary was written, especially in that scene where Jace comforts her (or, really, when Jace makes what happened to her about him and how angry he is and how he’s going to kill Jonathan etc. It’s a pattern with him, esp where Jonathan is involved, and I have more to say about it). Clary has always been a very temperamental, look before you leap sort of person, and I’m not sure that if she figured out Jonathan had hurt Jace she would just smile and pretend along. Clary would FREAK. This is Jocelyn’s daughter, y’all. The knives would be out. She stabbed herself to stab him before and she’d do it again. She has ALL the tools at her disposal to rune him or run away. — To be clear, I’m not shaming Clary for what she chose to do or not confronting a violently entitled dude who kidnapped her once already, I just felt the arc was artificially extended to let Jace be the hero instead of letting Clary kick Jonathan’s ass off a pier and rune him. There’s no way that bitch can swim. It seemed kind of….not how Clary would react and kind of artificially done for Jace and Jonathan’s benefit. — Last thing, which isn’t even a quibble but I feel people will be confused if it’s not on here: the Maia and Jordan thing. I’ll go into it more but basically: if they’re doing what I think, I think it worked shockingly well, but if it’s played straight yeah it’ll be Unfortunate.
The Good: — I’m just gonna come out and say this episode was AMAZING. Since this is mostly a positive review I’d like to credit the writer specifically—Zoe Broad. Honestly just the overall coherence of this episode was greater than any of the ones in S3 for me, it flowed from one scene to the other and there was no point where I had the urge to check Facebook or whatever. The dialogue was pretty good overall and truly amazing at parts, and I felt she had a pretty good handle on the characters, despite this being her first episode, which was very impressive. — I actually ENJOYED the ship content??? Clace was absolutely adorable on the rink, with Jace’s sometimes annoying bravado being played wryly both on his part and by the script. “I was born ahead of the curve” delivered with a smile and then nearly falling on his ass was. Very good. And Clary’s little “you’re doing better than me….when I was six” was equally great and I just. Really liked it? They felt like real people on a real date and it felt real and dynamic and cute. — Same with Malec’s grave-robbing date. Usually their scenes start to get weighed down by drama or just general “talking to the audience to make them happy rather than each other,” but this was just cute AND advanced the plot, and connected them back to the main storyline. I hadn’t liked how they were quarantined away from the main story and I’m glad they’re back, even if the “losing Magnus’ loft” was a weird way to do it. — Maia and Alisha particularly were really the breakout stars of the episode. Alisha really really SOLD that dialogue and was honestly incredible. Her terror and anger and desperation felt so visceral and real that even though I knew it would be resolved in the episode, it was gripping and I genuinely needed to know what happened next. — I also did like how Zoe wrote Maia (that “frickin” was TOTALLY a stand in for fuck and I APPRECIATE it) and I felt she really captured how she feels about Jordan—she does care about him as a person, or rather for the person he was at some point, but still refuses to not to push down on her own anger and hurt for his or anyone else’s sake. I felt it was really complex and confusing and emotional for her and overall I think that scene was meant to give her a sense of closure. Just because she recognizes that Jordan does care about her and can be supportive of her, doesn’t mean she’ll necessarily jump back into his arms. — That’s kind of my reading—I’m not sure where they’re going, obviously, but my instinct was that the less chill stuff Maia says (implying they may be going a romantic arc) was more due to the fact she was PANICKING IN A LOCKED CLOSET WITH A DYING DUDE. Like she says “I’m confused” like yes she meant before but honestly right then she obviously was, and I don’t really see the show going for Jordan/Maia? Especially since Todd has hinted Maia has a “don’t need no man” arc. Like she drifts apart from Simon but gets back with someone she hated for years?? Not seeing it. — However if they do go there I’ll be really disappointed, mostly because of the missed opportunity for complexity but also because yeahhhhh maybe not the chillest thing with how many people interpret their relationship as abuse. (I could make a separate post about it but yeah). — Onto Magnus. God okay I don’t know how others felt but I felt Zoe really got to the crux of why Magnus misses his magic. That how he feels connected to the world through his magic was just…such a good insight and it really impacted me because it wasn’t just some generic “magic is what makes me who I am,” it was so much more deep and personal and I felt it meant a lot that Magnus finally put that into words for Alec. He’d clearly been struggling to impart to Alec how he felt, both in terms of “how do I even explain this loss” and a his own emotional reticence. God that grave robbing scene!!!! — Umm the Morningstar sword actually being a sword to summon demons?? Kind of weird?? Esp if they play it off as an actual Morgenstern relic?? Not sure what’s happening but it was cool?? — honestly dudes I’ve been FUCKED UP about the Luke storyline and SUPER STRESSED and now IT’S ALL HAPPENIGN someone SAVE HIM oh my GOD I’m actually so stressed I’ve been stressed for 9 months FREE HIM — Ok now to Jonathan bc lbr y’all know I can’t shut up about him. Ok first off, that scene with the seelie gal, oh my FUCKING GOD I was screaming what a LOSER GHSDKLFJhghghhghgg. And she insults his shitty dialogue?? Zoe ma’am may I PROPOSE??? This keeps getting wilder and wilder I can’t believe they’re GOING THERE. THEY’RE GOING THERE SO HARD. HE’S SUCH A WILD LOSER. Can you BELIEVE he found someone off shadow world fetlife to be like “I’m a Morgenstern and I love you bro you’re so hot and clever and lovable” I just can’t. I bet you ANYTHING she tops and is only in it for the shadow hunter ass. — SHAPESHIFTING. YALL. I BUST A NUT. Look, it fixes so many fucking plot holes. His eyes look SO COOL when he does demon magic. He’s so OP and Chaotic Stupid it’s not even a joke I Lov my Mary Sue Son. — Honestly having Jonathan impersonate Jace is so brilliant (remember when he said, “I don’t want your pity, I want your life?”) Like it is so fucked up but I love it. Not looking forward to the mind control but maybe he just whispered “I’m a bottom” into her ear and ran off in her ensuing shock and confusion. You can’t prove me wrong until next week so until then LA LA LA LA CAN’T HEAR YOU — Personally I liked Dom’s performance as Jonathan, but not to be that Bitch I felt Will was a lot more subtle about it. Dom gave him a straight up thousand mile stare whereas Will played him as something charismatic and good at lying with a little edge of Something Wrong, a strain behind a smile. Sure, Jonathan was probably nervous for his little kidnapping date, but I felt it was unrealistic that he was so suave and convincing (sans the part where Aline comes to visit him that was hilarious, Jonathan you’re an idiot) as Seb and then is like “I eat ants sometimes” as Jace. Like. He’s an obsessive bitch. He’d have practiced Jace in the mirror. Fuck you. Probably while saying “fuck you.” ANYWAYS. — Izzy doing science? It’s not much but I’ll fucking take it lmao. I’m excited to see where Heavenly Fire is going. Matt’s Latin is still abysmal but whatever it’s ok. — also that rose?? A kiss from a rose?? Honestly this ep was so clever and thematically connected and just FLOWED like an ACTUAL EP OF TV god I’m emotional!!!! Thank you Zoe Broad ma’am you are a hero!!! — Again I’m gonna point out both Jace and Jonathan have a designated Brooding Fireplace. — Not super hyped about Heidi coming back but hey this ep was Worth It.
Anyway tldr I really liked it and wanted to spew semi-coherent positivity for once! About more characters than just my stupid fave!!! Wow!!! Good writing is SEXY and I LOVE IT!!!
#sh spoilers#seriously tho it was really good and coherent and there were real human emotions!!! and conversation!!!!!#welcome to my crispy mind

2. the killing moon by n.k. jemisin - this is everything i want a fiction book to be i think. i forced myself to slow down on this just to enjoy it for longer.

Random fact: Kingsman: The Secret Service was the first (and I think so far only) R-rated movie I’ve seen in theaters. I loved it at the time, probably mostly because I was excited to go with my friends to a movie, but it’s one of those movies where the more I watch it, the less I actually like it.
Describe yourself as aesthetic things: painted nails, the smell of coffee, vanilla candles, dark sayings written in neon signs, fog, messy overloaded bookshelves, an unmade bed, wearing headphones in a crowd, liminal spaces (copied from here because I just realized I already answered these from a different tag, but a few of my answers changed since then)
I’m gonna be lazy and not directly tag anyone since I tagged people last time and I’m not sure who else has already done it, but if you see this and want to do it, then consider yourself tagged by me! <3

The MCU Generation
So I’ve been thinking about Marvel a lot lately. Specifically Infinity War. And I have some Feelings™, so I just thought I’d share. This is probably going to be long and super inaccurate and cringe-y, I don’t mean to offend anyone, but I just wanted to get it out of my system. BTW there will be lots of spoilers.
Iron Man was released in 2008, and many people including me consider it the true beginning of the cultural phenomenon that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I was eight years old when it came out, man that makes me feel old. I didn’t really know much about/pay attention to/care about superheroes much at that point, but my dad liked those kinds of movies so I had watched things like the Tobey Maguire spider man movies and Christopher Nolan’s batman movies (the first two were out at that time). They didn’t really hold much interest for me at the time. Iron man rolled around and dad seemed excited about it, but it still just seemed like another comic movie that the family would maybe re-watch if it were on TV or something. No big deal, right? Well, time went on and I started to hear talk about a bigger story. Iron man 2 came out when I was 10, and introduced nick fury and Natasha Romanoff. Still, I paid little mind to the film besides casually enjoying it like any other decent action film. Then came Thor. One year later, we got the first taste of the universe outside of Tony Stark, and that universe was much larger than I had anticipated. Looking back, the first Thor movie was definitely not the best superhero film ever made, but it did a lot of things right. Most importantly, it set the stage for more heroes who quickly joined ranks. It’s at this point that I feel the MCU really started to gain traction, at least from what I was hearing. My eleven-year-old self was beginning to view this collection of movies as something with potential, something to get excited about. In that same year, Captain America: The First Avenger hit the big screen. This is where I became truly and totally hooked. I don’t know what did it, but something about the story, the characters, or the message seemed to grab my full attention. This was the movie that had me craving the next installment. It probably helped that at about twelve years old I was starting to enter the social media world, if only in small doses. I discovered Pinterest and quickly realized that other people around my age (maybe a few years older) were talking about these movies, interacting with each other, making jokes and edits and headcanons. If I wasn’t invested in the MCU characters before then, that changed rapidly. Seeing other people’s takes on what the heroes thought or did off camera, speculation about subtext relationships, comparisons and continuations of themes from the comics, all mushed together to bring me closer to this Story than I had ever been before. So I was ready for Avengers. The Big One. The superhero movie that did what no superhero movie had done before. It brought together a cast from multiple movies into one glorious world-saving group. By this point, everyone could see that this franchise would make an impact. It truly was an entire universe, and we had just touched on the surface of this super team potential. Fans were everywhere; people at school, on the street, in commercials had their favorite heroes’ logo somewhere on their clothing or bag. There had never been (or I maybe just never noticed) such a widely spread media infatuation.
Then came phase two. Iron man 3, Thor dark world, captain America winter soldier, guardians of the galaxy, age of Ultron, and ant man. These came out between my 13 and 16th birthdays. In my opinion (back then and now), none of these movies were quite up to par with those of phase one, but nostalgia may have already been clouding my judgement, even after just a few years. However, they did give us more characters to love, and also let us enjoy learning more about our old faves. I think this phase was Marvel kind of trying to find their footing in this huge undertaking they just opened up, trying to figure out how to write their stories now that they had to feel like they were in such a large universe?? I don’t know, it just feels like Phase One took place in a box the size of a fridge, and Phase Two now had to try (or at least start) to fill out an entire swimming pool. I was still excited with every new movie announcement and was happy to watch them, but after age of Ultron I feel like I lost a bit of steam. So much that I didn’t see Antman at all when it came out. It just didn’t seem worth it.
Phase Three. Civil War. I think this movie is the turning point for the MCU, into a much darker and somber tone. Inner conflicts among the avengers that have literally been boiling for years come to a head, we see so many characters in the same place, see their stories starting to turn in different directions from each other and we, as fans, are starting to get torn apart. Team Iron Man, Team Cap, and social media is stronger than ever, and more prevalent in my life. We don’t even get a solution at the end of the movie. It ends with both sides hurt, betrayed, and with no clue where to go from here, just like us viewers. It’s fair to say that I was re-invested in this universe once more. Though it hurt, I think Marvel needed to introduce some real, lasting damage to its characters. I feel like this movie took itself more seriously as well. That was 2016. After that, we got Dr. Strange, GotG volume two, Spiderman homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, and Black panther. While these movies were not perfect either, I think they got a lot closer to what marvel wanted to make their universe feel like. They know what they’re doing now, and we fans got some great new characters out of it, along with a fun new take on some old ones (I’m looking at you, Mr. Waititi). I do want to mention a couple little things about some of these. Spiderman was worrisome for me, because the character had had two separate franchises in the last decade or so. That’s a pretty quick turnover. Let it be known that my fears have been quelled, and Tom Holland is my true Spiderman. (Tobey will hold a special place in my heart though. Sorry Andrew, better luck next time). AND THEN. The sensation that was Black Panther. This was when I was really getting into social media; tumblr, youtube, deviantart, all that jazz. It is also when I started college, so imagine that absolute upheaval of perspective. This movie was so important for minorities, and it caused such a stir just as my life was turned 180 degrees on its head. I didn’t know what to think. But I loved it.
Everything was going good. Marvel was hitting its stride again, life was changing, and my mind was expanding and finding out things that I had never considered before. I was 18 years old.
Then it happened. The one everyone had been waiting for for several years. “The endgame.”
Infinity War.
Let me tell you what it was like when I sat down in the theater that cold spring day. I had heard whispered rumors. About loss, about death. I brushed them off as speculation, trying not to latch onto any spoilers. I wanted to be totally oblivious as to what was about to happen, so I could experience it as mine and only mine the first time. I sat down in that dark theater with my parents, brother, snacks, tissues, and blanket. Mind you, the tissues were for allergies that had been acting up the past few days. I never cried at movies. Never. The trailers played, my family and I whispered to each other about needing to keep an eye out for this or that film when it came out. Then the lights dropped to almost nothing. We settled in for the long haul as the Marvel logo began to play. You know the one, where it shows clips of the past movies, coming together to form the name of the company? Except this one said “MARVEL STUD10S.” Did you get that? There was a number 10 in the name. I was confused for a minute or so, until it dawned on me that the Marvel Cinematic Universe had been making movies for ten. years. More than half my life. I was still in elementary school when the first Iron Man came out. And now here I was, a year into college, about to watch characters that I had grown up with and come to love, in the movie that people were saying destroyed their souls. At that moment, I knew I was in trouble. I was right. Straight off the bat, we lost my favorite villain who really just needs a hug, one who really was instrumental in bringing the Avengers together in the first place. Loki Odinson, in his own words. Right up till the end, he was a trickster, but he loved his family. He and Heimdall were the first hard losses, though seeing all of Asgard torn to shreds was a wake-up call that no one was prepared for the utter destruction that had been avoided until this film. No more clean Disney kid-friendly-ness anymore. Throughout the movie, we got to see reunions, long-awaited meetings, even more characterization and growth (geez marvel, how did you even fit that in? This is the endgame movie? How are you still teaching us new things about these people?) torture, fighting. The tension to the final battle was mounting, and at some point it became clear to me that the Avengers would not be together when this threat arrived. And as anyone who has ever seen a horror movie can tell you, splitting up only leads to death. Now, here’s where my memory gets a little fuzzy. Things were happening so fast, switching from group to group of heroes trying desperately to stave off the destruction of everything we’ve ever known. Things are going wrong all over the place, no one knows where anyone else is or what they’re doing, people we love are fighting each other because they’ve never met before now. What I do remember is when we get to the fight on Titan. Half of the Guardians, Tony, Peter, Strange. Tensions are running high. When Thanos arrives, I have no Idea what’s about to happen. They start fighting, and we finally get a demonstration of some of the more amazing feats the Infinity Gauntlet can pull off. The upper hand swings back and forth so many times, but finally the heroes get their plan to work, they’ve got Thanos on the ground, the Gauntlet is almost off. And Quill… ruins it. What else can he do? He just found out that his love is dead. So he messes everything up. Thanos gets free, pummels everyone into the ground, and then… gets the stone. Strange gives up the stone, even though he swore he would let a child die before he would ever give up such a dangerous object. What the hell Strange???? Was my immediate reaction. I knew it had to be more than just some newfound compassion for these people he met a day ago (was it actually a day?? Has all of this only happened in one short day?) Obviously the doctor has a plan, but this still seems like the worst possible idea. Now to earth. We get some truly awesome moments here; Bucky and cap’s reunion, Shuri showing off her mad science skillz, epic fight moves against hordes of zombie lizards, Thor’s entrance, his little banter with Steve, “I am Groot” “I am Steve Rogers,” Scarlet Witch dropping in at the last second with that massive power move. Everything seems like it’s going ok, and then suddenly, its not. Everything drops so suddenly into Not OK Town that I can still feel the whiplash. People are scrambling to get to each other, calling for backup, getting knocked down and thrown around, and then Thanos makes his entrance. He practically wipes the floor with our remaining heroes. The only thing standing between the universe and total ruin is Wanda. I’ve been preparing for a scene like this the whole movie, but it didn’t hurt any less to finally see it. Vision begs Wanda to destroy the stone, to destroy him, we all know that she has to give in. That’s what heroes do. So she says goodbye to the man she loves and uses her power on him. Now I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’ve seen this scenario play out before. I’m expecting someone to get there at the last minute and just fricken’ knock Thanos out cold, or maybe discover that Shuri had enough time to basically detach the stone from Vision, even if it didn’t look like it. But no. Wanda destroys the mind stone and Vision actually dies at her hands. Even after all the death that’s already happened in this movie, I was still surprised and devastated.
But they couldn’t just end it like that, could they? Marvel Studios needs to drink every last drop of pain from their fans.
Thanos moves back the clock. He takes the stone. Vision’s sacrifice was in vain, Wanda had to watch her love die for nothing. Nothing that anyone did made a difference. Since Avengers came out in 2012, these characters have been fighting to keep this evil at bay, to protect the stones, even before they knew it. And now none of it matters. Because Thanos the Mad Titan has all the infinity stones. It’s all over in my mind, I wait for the quintessential Villain Laugh™, the gloating, and then whatever evil thing Thanos has planned. But wait! Thor to the rescue with his brand-new hammer-axe! My heart leaps as he skewers the big purple raisin. He gets his revenge for Loki, for Heimdall, for all of Asgard, for us. Except. except. “You should have gone for the head.”
Wait,
snap. .
.
. My body is rigid and I can only stare unblinking in confusion at the screen. What’s going on? What did you do? WHAT DID YOU DO? Thanos disappears. Everything is quiet. “Where did he go?” Steve asks in confusion, mirroring all of our thoughts exactly.
“Steve?”
We see Bucky walking towards us, and then he just…. Dissolves. Into dust. what’s going on what was that My mind is sluggish. I don’t understand.
Wakandan warriors disappear in the wake of the battle. T’challa tries to help Okoye up but then he’s gone. Groot. Wanda. Sam. Mantis, Drax, Quill, Strange.
And oh god.
“Mr. Stark? I don’t feel so good.” Oh god no. “I don’t know what’s happening, I don’t want to go, I don’t want to go, sir, please, I don’t want to go… I’m sorry.”
Gone.
Through this whole thing, it is silent. No music. Just emptiness, confusion, fear.
And that’s where we’re left. The audience is motionless. I do not cry at movies, but my throat is tight like a noose and my sleeves are soaked from wiping away tears.
Like all good Marvel fans, we remain still in our seats. I try to comprehend what just happened to me as the white credits scroll over a void and dramatic music accompanies them. We wait for our first end-credit scene. Instead, what we get is a fading of the music. Avengers: Infinity War shows from the center of the black screen, and a familiar melody plays. A few slow, simple notes on a piano. The triumphant theme of our heroes, earth’s mightiest protectors. It sounds lonely now. The last note plays, and the title dusts. And I almost scream.
If you’ve read this far, wow! Thank you for reading my absolute monstrosity of a garbage post! It’s been a few months now since Infinity War, and I’ve had time to think. What I figured out was this; when I’m older-old enough to be a parent myself-and looking back on my childhood, these are going to be the movies I remember like my dad remembers Star Wars. I was so lucky to be just the right age when this all started to enjoy every single one, and to remember experiencing them all for the first time. I was just the right age to forge a bond with the characters and their world. I think it was a special kind of bond that only occurs when you’re young but not too young, one that weaves webs of innocence and nostalgia through your most transformative years, and grows with you as you become a new person, and stays with you like a friend even as you see things so differently than when you first started out. What I’m trying to say is that I feel like I grew from child to adult just as the MCU did. We grew together. I don’t know if anyone my age feels the same, but these movies feel like the first big mainstream thing that really belongs to my generation. Like they came at the perfect time to shape me. It feels like they were made for me.

MCU Movies Ranked
So like... I saw @anniemar‘s Marvel movie rankings and I really wanted to do one too. I probably won’t finish this tonight because I have THOUGHTS and narrowing them down and nailing them down is going to be work. BUT, I figured I’d give this a shot. I’m going to start from the bottom and work my way down. I’m basing this off the liklihood of me rewatching again soon or ever.
Edit: I didn’t finish it last night, I had more thoughts than I thought. :P
19. Iron Man 3 - I didn’t dislike this movie? It was a little all over the place, but I adore the Pepper Potts character development and Rhodey is always a pleasure. It just wasn’t my favorite and you can probably consider this one and the next two to be tied for last, I just picked this one at random to stick here at the very bottom.
18. The Incredible Hulk - I would have liked this more if it weren’t for Ed Norton. I love Betty Ross and wish she was in more films. But Ed freakin’ Norton man. Sorry. Not a fan of his casting. I’m so glad Mark Ruffalo was recast in this role. SO GLAD OMG.
17. Thor the Dark World - While this does have my main girl Darcy L AND Loki AND Thor, it’s not my favorite. Malekith just wasn’t scary or believable as a villain... there were some humorous parts, but not enough to make me actually sit through the entire movie again when I can just go watch the best parts on youtube.
16. Avengers: Age of Ultron - While my fave was introduced in this film, he was also killed in this film so meh. Plus the whole too-long-Brucetasha debacle (I don’t hate the ship, but I deplore the way it’s depicted in the film, it could be SO MUCH BETTER and mehhhhhhhhhhh). I wish James Spader had been utilized more. It was just... meh. And my fave got killed. So nah. Not a favorite, and I probably won’t rewatch it unless I’m just watching through the entire MCU for some reason.
15. Captain America: Civil War - This whole movie just... ugh. Besides having one of my favorite villains of all time, and introducing one of my favorite characters (T’challa) ...I just... mehhhhhhh
14. Iron Man - Again, nothing really wrong with this, but I probably wouldn’t watch it again unless I was doing a watch through of all the MCU movies.
13. Doctor Strange - I didn’t not like this movie. In fact, I thought it was kind of well done. But at the same time, there are things about it (casting things, etc) that have me placing it lower than I otherwise would. I would watch it again, though. It also holds the honor of being the only MCU film I didn’t see in the theater.
12. Iron Man 2 - Okay, this is where I start getting into my multiple rewatches and some of my favorite films in the franchise. (In fact, my top 6 could be interchangable, I love them so much) I love this movie so much. I feel like it was where they really started putting together the team, so to speak. We get our first glimpse of the Black Widow, and she is spectacular. Just everything about this movie is good and awesomesauce.
11. Captain America: The First Avenger - I love, love, love everything about this movie. Peggy Carter? Yes please. Steve Rogers being a little shit and getting into fights and using a trash can lid as a shield? Yes please. Bucky Barnes being a total science dork and wearing THE HELL out of that uniform? Yes please. *grabby hands* Multiple rewatches and I will watch it A LOT MORE.
10. Thor - I have to stick this in here because a TON of my faves were introduced. I love Darcy (Obvi). I love Loki. I love Thor. Lady Sif. Just YAS to all of it. <3 I have watched this multiple times, and I will watch it many more times. It’s not the best Thor film by far, but it deserves a higher spot. <3
9. Spiderman: Homecoming: Okay, so mark this down as a WHOA. Because listen to me. I despise Spiderman. I have NEVER liked him. Never ever ever. I tried multiple times to like that little shit and I was never able to. But hubby convinced me to go with him to see this bc he loves that little idiot so much. So I did. And I had SUCH A GOOD TIME YOU GUYS. This movie was surprisingly good. I love Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. And for that reason, it gets a high spot. For making me like a character I didn’t WANT TO LIKE.
8. Avengers: Infinity War: Let me be clear. This movie ruined me. I am devastated, heartbroken... but I also cannot stop thinking about it. I can’t stop thinking about little bits and pieces of this film. It is staying with me in a way that a movie hasn’t done since I first watched Titanic when I was 12 years old. And listen. Say what you will about Titanic, but it was a good movie. It was well made, well-acted. It was a good movie. The same could be said of Infinity War.
7. Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2: I didn’t like this one as much as the first one. There were some poop jokes and dick jokes that I felt were unnecessary, considering that the first one did fine without them. But the soundtrack was great. The villain, also great. The cast, amazing. Definitely a rewatchable film.
(Okay, after this, I’m just listing the movies, because I love ALL of these movies equally and I couldn’t pick a favorite if I tried)
6. Ant-Man - BREAK OUT OMG. I watched this on a whim because we had tickets to Jurassic World and had two hours to kill, so we went and watched Ant-Man too. I absolutely loved it. Loved all the characters, loved the narrative, loved absolutely everything about this movie. And I had NO OPINIONS of Ant Man before I watched this movie, you guys. I went from having NO OPINIONS to having FEELINGS and omg.
5. Guardians of the Galaxy - ABSOLUTELY LOVED EVERY MINUTE. Perfect writing, perfect cast, perfect soundtrack, perfect, perfect, perfect.
4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier - First Marvel movie I saw on the day it premiered. This film is amazing. Just awesome from start to finish. Say what you will about the Russos, but they KNOW how to make a film flow. They did it with every single one they’ve directed, and it all started with TWS. Amazing, and just... gahhhhhh omg.
3. The Avengers - Nothing will ever compare to the feeling I got when I saw Earth’s Mightiest Heroes assembled for the first time. I still tear up everytime I watch it, okay?
2. Black Panther: OH MY GOD. I AM STILL NOT OVER THIS MOVIE YOU GUYS. PERFECT. Just. This movie is everything, you guys. Talk about tears. Talk about grinning like a fool the whole time I watched. It was AMAZING. I don’t have to tell anyone that this movie is amazing, but omg, it’s amazing and gahhhhhhhhhhh. PERFECTION. I saw this twice in the theater and I can’t wait for the DVD to be released so I can watch it more at home!
1. Thor: Ragnarok: I have watched this movie every day since I bought the DVD. I watch the commentary with Taika Waititi. I watch the deleted scenes. I watch this movie every day and I am not ashamed of how I spend my time. I love Thor. I love him. This Thor is a good Thor, okay? Bruce Banner. *bursts into flames*. FUCKING VALKYRIE???? OMG???? LOKI MY BABE. FUCKING JEFF GOLDBLUM? Can Taika make every movie from now on? Not just Marvel, but EVERY FUCKING MOVIE. He has RUINED me for all other filmmakers. Like, I love this movie so much, I am not even bothered by the haters. Hate all you want, this movie is amazing. Revamped an entire superhero. Made the actor feel rejuvinated enough to talk about making a fourth Thor film. Made me LOVE THIS particular part of the franchise SO FREAKING MUCH OMG.
Anywho, y’all should totes do your own and tag me so I can see themmmmmmm. <3 <3 <3 This was fun and cathartic.

MCU Villains RANKED
I finished watching all the MCU films a few days ago (I have too much time on my hands) and, as a first Marvel list, I thought I’d rank all of the main villains in terms of how cool/powerful/how generally good I think they are. Come and see where your faves have placed in this messy, ill-informed list!
This list includes all of the main villains for every film up to Infinity War (Ant-Man and the Wasp isn’t out yet so it’d be difficult to include Ghost in here) with a couple of side villains that I felt needed a spot in the list. Enjoy! (Also, possible spoilers ahead for basically any MCU film)
Disclaimer: My opinion will probably, definitely not be yours
23. Whiplash (Iron Man 2)
Oh God.
I’m pretty vocal about how much I’m really not a fan of Iron Man 2 in general, but one of its worst aspects is a totally forgettable and laughable villain. I mean, I think at some point he has a subplot about his dad or something but most of the time he’s whining about his ‘bord’ and building shitty whips with his tech rather than something useful.
22. King Laufey (Thor)
I mean, sure. I guess this guy wasn’t supposed to act as much more than suitably evil looking blue person for Thor to fight. What puts Laufey ahead of Whiplash is pure cool factor, like I wouldn’t mess with this guy. He’d freeze me or somethin’.
21. Abomination (The Incredible Hulk)
Honestly, this is probably a higher ranking for Abomination than any other list I’ve seen. My only issue with this guy is that he’s a bit eh. Despite being played by Tim Roth, a brilliant actor who appears in multiple of my favourite films, his character is just one dimensional, sweaty soldier until the end when he turns into one dimensional, sweaty green monster. Again, his minor redeeming quality comes with his raw strength (say what you like about the Hulk film, that Harlem fight at the end is well worth watching the other hour and a half), but he’s very much let down by an underdeveloped character and a completely absent motive for anything.
20. Aldrich Killian (Iron Man 3)
Okay, now we’re getting into the villains that sort have a motive at some point. Personally, I didn’t hate the whole ‘Ben Kingsley isn’t the Mandarin’ twist, so that’s not why he’s placed so low. I’ll agree that that Guy Pearce plays a decent villain here, but the film itself is so messy and full of subplots that Killian sort of gets lost in it and never really develops beyond angry rooftop guy who can set himself on fire.
19. Malekith (Thor: The Dark World)
I thought Thor 2 was pretty damn okay and not the horrendous mess people make it out to be and I’ll defend Christopher Eccleston’s Malekith just as tentatively. Malekith’s only downfall is a non-existent character beyond cool looking menacing elf dude. We know that he wants to make everything all dark again for reasons that aren’t quite clear, but that’s kind of it. Again, his slightly higher ranking is more the cool factor.
18. Darren Cross (Ant-Man)
Cool suit by the way my dude.
Corey Stoll’s Yellowjacket is a pretty by-the-numbers MCU villain. He has his moments, particularly the Mexican standoff during the presentation of his suit, but he’s a pretty okay aspect of an otherwise great film. He holds his own as a decent villain, but his backstory and motives borrow a little too heavily from Iron Man’s Obadiah Stane. And he doesn’t quite pull off the disgraced CEO as well as Jeff Bridges.
17. Ronan (Guardians of the Galaxy)
I loved Lee Pace in the Hobbit films, so the fact that Pace plays Ronan well isn’t in question. The thing about Ronan is that it seems like putting the heartless genocidal racist at the centre of a comedic superhero film about a group of misfits acts as a pretty jarring tone shift. It sort of feels like Ronan was stuffed into the wrong film here (But maybe that’s why he’s having his second round in Captain Marvel next year). Ronan isn’t exactly forgettable, but when surrounded by such rich and interesting characters, his destructive plans and endless angry monologues just sort of melt into the background.
16. The Black Order (Avengers: Infinity War)
I sort of lumped these guys all together purely because I don’t think any one of them shines out as more developed than another. They act as cool, menacing underlings to the purple fucklord that is Thanos and I’m almost kind of mad they didn’t make it to Avengers 4. As little development as there is, you can tell each one of them plays a specific role (Cull Obsidian is obviously massive brawn thing, Ebony Maw is the clever one, Proxima and Corvus enjoy stabbing things etc), which means the only thing that’s really stopping these guys from appearing higher is lack of screen time.
15. Ultron (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
Age of Ultron, like Thor 2, is often crapped on just as heavily for reasons I don’t think are hugely valid. And, like Thor 2, its villain is often the centre of the crapping. Ultron’s motives are relatively clear throughout the film and he feels central enough to be a genuine threat. I also like the plot arc that Ultron is the Avenger’s (particularly Tony and Bruce’s) fault, so that gives a whole new dynamic to his character. My only issue with Ultron is how odd his humour seems at times, as if he can’t quite decide whether he wants to be the serious villain or the funny villain. I’m all for villains showcasing both of these traits but, in Ultron’s case, he seems conflicted on which he’s trying to be.
14. Alexander Pierce (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
Robert Redford plays the creepy Hydra dude very well and there’s something genuinely sinister about Pierce that especially comes through with his willingness to kill twenty million people. Pierce’s only downfall is that he’s a non-enhanced villain among many super-powered heroes and villains. So for all his sinister acting, Pierce just comes off as a little bit powerless. Not that this at all negates Redford’s performance or the strings Pierce pulls within SHIELD, it’s just that his lack of genuine power is something you can’t help but think about.
13. Justin Hammer (Iron Man 2)
I maintain that the only saving grace of Iron Man 2, aside from the newly cast Don Cheadle as Rhodey, is Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer. He brings genuine humour to an otherwise joyless film and acts as a worthy adversary to Tony Stark. Also, his dancing during the Stark Expo? Worth watching the film for. I’d be very happy to see him return, although it might be a little late due to the fact that Iron Man may be about to make his exit in Avengers 4. RIP Justin, maybe another time my dude.
12. Obadiah Stane (Iron Man)
Here he is, the villain that started it all. Jeff Bridges’ Iron Monger makes for a genuinely chilling, unsettling villain whose calmness is probably his most terrifying trait. At the centre of any good film, especially a Marvel film, is a good, compelling villain and Bridges manages this with ease. Unlike the two Iron Man sequels, this is an Iron Man villain who genuinely feels like he’s up to taking down Stark.
11. Kaecilius (Doctor Strange)
Kaecilius is yet another chilling villain played by the brilliant Mads Mikkelson who, much like Stane, feels like a match to the protagonist. But what put Kaecilius ahead of him for me is the fact that he believes what he’s doing is completely right; he thinks he’s granting everyone eternal life, rather than enslaving them to Dormammu (who won’t be included because of his lack of screen time/only redeeming quality being his massive face). This alongside some kickarse magical abilities just puts him up a bit more. Time for the top ten!
10. Helmut Zemo (Captain America: Civil War)
Daniel Bruhl goes full Bond villain for this one. Civil War in itself is a movie packed full of conflict at its core, so it takes a pretty memorable villain to make a mark on a film like this. Bruhl’s Helmut Zemo pulls all the strings behind the Avengers’ downfall and does so with a lot of sinister energy. But at the same time, we’re compelled to feel sorry for the fact that he lost his family in Sokovia during Age of Ultron. I think we’re probably going to see this guy making a return in future.
9. The Grandmaster (Thor: Ragnarok)
I love Jeff Goldblum. Everyone loves Jeff Goldblum. And while he plays more of a minor villain role in Ragnarok, I think he made much more of a mark and delivered a more compelling, genuinely funny performance than any other Thor villain. So it’d be pretty amazing to see him come back for a future film. Especially if Taika Waititi has something to do with it.
8. Ulysses Klaue (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Black Panther)
It’s pretty rare to see Andy Serkis in the flesh in a film rather than behind a lot of CGI and this character couldn’t have been played by anyone else. With Klaue being the second of two minor villains in this list alongside the Grandmaster, Klaue most makes his presence felt in Black Panther where he more than holds his own alongside Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger (who we’ll get to later). Andy Serkis brings a hell of a lot of humour and genuine manic energy to this role and this is near enough his best performance. It’s just a shame that Ulysses Klaue is unlikely to return, considering the fact he was a shot multiple times during Black Panther.
7. Red Skull (Captain America: The First Avenger)
Here is a villain that more than deserves his spot in the top ten. Arguably one of the most memorable villains of Marvel’s first phase, Hugo Weaving plays the angry clever Nazi scarily well. What makes him so great is the fact that he’s the complete antithesis to Captain America, which just makes the conflict between them seem more interesting. Plus, come on, it’s Hugo Weaving. He’s in every good film ever. What a guy.
6. Ego (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2)
Kurt Russell’s Ego places this high for many reasons, mainly the fact that he doesn’t present himself as the villain until towards the end of the film and yet the film functions perfectly without a central antagonist (I love Guardians 2 a lot. This will become obvious probably). Ego even retains the parts of his character that you originally related to before he goes full bad guy and tries to cover all the planets in blue marshmallow fluff. Other than a couple of misplaced jokes (’I’m gonna go take a whiz’), Ego is a near-perfect Marvel villain.
5. Vulture (Spider-Man Homecoming)
I struggle to call this guy a villain, even though he undoubtedly is. Everything he does is out of a place of concern for his family and the only murder he commits in the whole of the film was an accident. Okay, so this doesn’t necessarily make him a good person, but what makes him any better than the Netflix Punisher? Or Deadpool? Anyway, kind of irrelevant, Michael Keaton plays his second bird super-character in the same way he plays all of his roles; amazingly. One of the main elements of Homecoming that made it such a genuinely good reboot was an interesting, relatable villain that you struggle to hate (apart from maybe when he’s pummeling Spidey into the ground at the end, that hurt my feelings).
4. Loki (Thor, The Avengers)
You can’t really call Loki a villain anymore, similarly to Bucky, M’Baku and Nebula (her especially, if she isn’t a full time guardian by the third one I’m not gonna be happy), he’s undergone a redemption arc that hasn’t negated his mischievous behaviour, but just makes sure the good parts of his character shine through a little more (that’s why I’ve only listed the two films in which I would class Loki as a villain). Tom Hiddleston plays Loki in a very sinister way, but more importantly with an overriding sense of fun. He perfectly strikes a balance between being a funny villain whilst still maintaining his sense of power.
3. Thanos (Avengers: Infinity War)
Speaking of sense of power, it crushed my heart a little to see Loki get so easily offed at the beginning of Infinity War, making Loki’s usually undeniably effective plots seem like cheap parlor tricks (to be fair, all he did was pretend he wasn’t going to stab him, but I guess if Loki’s desperate, you know everyone’s fucked at that point). Aside from all that, Thanos easily is the most terrifying character in the MCU, purely because of sheer power. Josh Brolin plays him (and Cable too) with overflowing gravitas and a threatening aura that seems to be present in everything he does. Even if he is inevitably defeated in Avengers 4, the mark he’s left on the MCU is gonna sting the survivors for some time (Sidenote: if any Guardian turns out to be permanently dead, I will officially never get over that. Yondu was bad enough).
2. Hela (Thor: Ragnarok)
Cate Blanchett as the first central female MCU villain (as well as the goddess of death) is iconic. Hela presents the same threatening, overly powerful aura that Thanos has and does every despicable act with a sense of sadistic humour. If I had the choice to bring back one villain, it would be Hela, because I very much doubt she died when Surtur squished Asgard, so her lasting mark may end up being equal to Thanos’. Or maybe she’ll turn out to be Lady Death? So many possibilites but to be honest, as long as they bring her back, I’m up for anything.
1. Killmonger (Black Panther)
Who else was it going to be? Black Panther in itself was an iconic film, not just for its cultural significance, but also for breaking the usual Marvel mold with its narrative. And at the centre of all this is Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger, who perfectly strikes the balance between someone you love to hate and hate to love. But most of all, Killmonger’s death holds the most emotion of any villain-centric moment for me, as the ever brilliant T’Challa takes him up to see Wakanda’s sunset before he dies. But overall, what puts Killmonger ahead of all the others is the fact that everything he’s doing could easily be seen as morally correct, just not in its execution. All Killmonger wanted in the end was to arm and support his oppressed brothers and sisters, which highlights the film’s political message. Among irrelevant whip-wielding Russian scientists and endless business people in metal suits, Killmonger stands out as a villain you can side with as easily as the hero and is a villain I find it the most difficult to show any dislike for. (Totally not relevant, but Michael B. Jordan plays a good character in a cool indie film called Chronicle that came out a few years ago. If you're planning on watching a film anytime this week, I highly recommend you watch it, it will blow you away)
Phew. That took a while. Thanks for reading if you made it this far and feel free to let me know your top picks for MCU villains! If I do another Marvel list, will probably be the actual films next.
Have a good day/night my dudes

Good day everyone~! This week’s Comic Tea Party is now officially beginning. Today we are discussing Heart Hex by tendermiri~! (http://hearthex.tumblr.com/) For those new to CTP, discussions about the comic are freeform, so please feel free to bring up whatever you wish. However, every 30 minutes I will be dropping in a discussion question to help those who would like a prompt. These questions are totally OPTIONAL to answer so pay them no mind if you wish~! Remember, constructive criticism is allowed, but the primary focus here is to have fun and appreciate the amazing comics that the community makes~! Each chat a top comment will be picked and featured on an ad for this chat, so let’s have a great discussion~!
With that said, let us begin with this first question~!
QUESTION 1. What is your favorite scene in the comic so far and why?
MathTans the Pun Prince
Helloooo! I'd say my fave scene was actually the one where Teo was musing about being an internet sensation and what it might mean to lose it and such. Resonated with me, in part because I'm so far on the other end of the spectrum. ^.^
zestwitch
I especially enjoyed the palm reading scene, like the page that showed the various lines on the palm and explaining what they meant. It was a nice story break that functioned as a plot driver and also built atmosphere. :^)
MathTans the Pun Prince
Oh yeah, that was neat! I admit, I looked at my own palm to see if I could spot similar lines.
zestwitch
Yep it's really nice when comics that feature witches involve smaller/quieter aspects, makes it feel well rounded
RebelVampire
both are really good scenes. I like how Teo's internet musings were visually presented cause something about it just made it more realistic and grounding. for the palm reading scene tho i also really love that it broke to show the palm reading lines. i think the way its presented is really helpful for those who ahve never had their palm read and would otherwise be on google going wtf is this magic
MathTans the Pun Prince
The colour coding was clever too.
Also, speaking of visual presentation, impressive backgrounds.
zestwitch
Oh yes- I really like that it's set in Chicago. That's my bias lol I love when stories take place here.
Superjustin of Time and Space
HI THERE
And yeah Chicago is a cool place
MathTans the Pun Prince
Heh. I don't think I even majorly picked up on that. Guess I only notice when it's set around where I am. ^^
All the baddest demons hang out in Chicago.
Superjustin of Time and Space
yes
RebelVampire
gonna be honest i also didnt notice the specific setting. XD some sort of city was enough for me while reading. i was a bit more focused on the demon XD
MathTans the Pun Prince
Curious, did anyone think Lee's boyfriend was actually legit sorry about wanting her back? I was majorly skeptical.
zestwitch
As in, did he truly want her back?
MathTans the Pun Prince
Yeah. I was worried he was playing her for more information about the witchy things. Turned out he was just a jerk, but when she accepted him, I felt like, oh dear.
zestwitch
Yeah I don't think he's genuine with either lee or dana. He seems to me like he leans towards whoever is convenient for him, or just how he happens to feel. Not sure if he really loves either of them.
Superjustin of Time and Space
this guy's face
I lvoe it for some reason
RebelVampire
he does have a good expression there
MathTans the Pun Prince
Yeah, I'm pretty sure he doesn't now, after what we saw in the background of Teo's story. Maybe I'm just suspicious by nature, I had doubts from the get-go. ^.^
RebelVampire
i definitely dont think ant was genuine at all
the minute he walked into that apartment i screamed "dont you take him back its a trap"
and then it was a trap
MathTans the Pun Prince
Right, Ant. (I'm bad on names.) Okay, so not just me, whew.
RebelVampire
nah everything about ant screamed dishonest
not to mention most ppl who cheat tend to cheat again
not always some ppl do learn. but a lot just really dont change
MathTans the Pun Prince
The twin brother thing is interesting. They're drawn differently enough though that I don't think mistaken identity will come up. (Hair colour in particular.)
Superjustin of Time and Space
props to this hair too
zestwitch
Yes I'm very interested in Teo's brother, right off the bat he has a really engaging personality so I'd like to see more of him
Teo too. He's very likable
MathTans the Pun Prince
They're less demonic.
RebelVampire
im interested in the fact theyre twins just cause they have gone out of their way to look really different. so at first glance you would not expect that. it opesn up a lot of questions about their relationship too
MathTans the Pun Prince
Seems like they only recently moved in together too? Wonder if it was after Teo separated from his past relationship.
Superjustin of Time and Space
>two boys moving together(edited)
I like those kind of things for some reason
zestwitch
I think the thing I'm most interested in is more info on the demon. Rosier
I wanna know more about his backstory and motivations for sure.
MathTans the Pun Prince
He seems to enjoy his work.
Superjustin of Time and Space
Yea
RebelVampire
i know on the character profiles it says he hasnt been to earth since the 1600's
which now makes me wonder who made the last blood pact
zestwitch
True
MathTans the Pun Prince
I really need to remember to look at the profile pages. >.<
RebelVampire
QUESTION 2. The comic deals with a lot of themes in regards to revenge, love, fame, and even cause & effect. Each character has their own personal issues, from Lee’s torn apart love life to Teo’s newness to fame. Which character’s struggle resonates with you the most and why? How do you think their struggles tie into other themes of the comic? Additionally, what other themes not mentioned have you noticed in the comic, and why do you think they’re important to the larger story?
MathTans the Pun Prince
Heh, well, as I said, the Teo fame thing actually resonates, largely because of how different it is from where I'm at. He's made it "big" (relatively) and is doing signings and things, while wondering about how it affects his life. Speaking as someone who's still trying to claw together more than a dozen readers after 6 years, I wonder if I'd be equally vexed on the flip side.
(Hm, vexed is the wrong word. Angsty?)
Teo's got the whole imposter thing going on too, wondering if it's only because of his brother's popularity that he's made a name for himself.
zestwitch
True the imposter syndrome facet is really interesting
RebelVampire
i at least found his struggle relatable in that i watch a lot of youtubers who talk about stuff like that. where theyre just doing all these things going what even how did this happen
so i feel the portrayal of the struggle is actually pretty realistic
thats a good spot tho
MathTans the Pun Prince
It's one you don't often see either.
RebelVampire
the imposter syndrome
tho i cant blame him cause there is a point its hard to know which person has more influence on the other
i mean im sure there are some fans of his that are his fans cause his brother is a cool rockstar
its just always a question of how many
MathTans the Pun Prince
There is that. It could have helped boost his name, the association, at least initially.
Like, his thoughts can't have come from nowhere.
zestwitch
Yeah + family seems to be a strong theme for Teo. In the q/a it said we'd see more of his daughter eventually
MathTans the Pun Prince
True, true. He's got a good conscience also, bumping the coffee onto Ant. I imagine his brother's decent too, letting Teo move in. Wonder why his relationship hasn't worked out. Was the fame thing part of it?
RebelVampire
well considering his reaction to ant i kind of assumed some self projection there
MathTans the Pun Prince
Hmm, that's interesting. I can see it, didn't think about that.
RebelVampire
not to say thats for sure
but he did have an extreme reaction to the conversation
which most ppl would just probably ignore it
MathTans the Pun Prince
So he was kinda tuned into it? Could have been he was bored.
RebelVampire
there were other ppl in the shop tho and he was poised to write stuff down. but mostly, bumping into him so ant spills hot coffee on himself is not the most upstanding reaction XD that is the action of someone who is bitter about something
MathTans the Pun Prince
There is that. Of course, inserting yourself into a conversation and saying "hey, you're kind of terrible to be talking behind someone's back" is a tough sell. I guess I just liked the comeuppance too much.
RebelVampire
maybe what happened tho is diff. like teo had a breakup and later the person was like "nah man i never loved you you actually dont mean anything to me now" cause there was a similar line that seemed to trigger his reaction
MathTans the Pun Prince
That could be. Now, while Teo's struggle resonates the most, the one I'm most curious about is between Lee and Dana. Because they were both played by Ant, but then Lee just stepped right the hell over the line about having her watch as Rosier killed him. (I guess because she thought Dana was in on it??) I feel like that's got to play into things.
It also kind of kills my yuri ship of Lee and Dana consoling each other over the jerk because Dana likely has PTSD.
zestwitch
It might be jealousy. Sucks for dana. But considering lee would go far enough to have ant killed, its not a large step further to have the girl who replaced her watch it happen.
MathTans the Pun Prince
Guess it could be jealousy. Maybe that's a larger arcing theme.
RebelVampire
i like that both stories are connected by some themes of...im gonna say lonliness even tho im not sure thats the word i want to use. maybe isolation. cause lee and teo both seem to be having struggles with connecting with others.
MathTans the Pun Prince
Ooh, that's a good point. Yeah, like isolation issues.
Being defined by the people around them.
RebelVampire
which maybe dana will become more prominent and have a similar theme where shes like "nope if i date this person theyll become demon chow"
MathTans the Pun Prince
(Is there a statute of limitations on blood oaths?)
RebelVampire
idk O_O maybe.
oh thats a good one too that theyre all being defined by the people around them
makes you wonder what lee was like before ant
MathTans the Pun Prince
Like, now that the deed is done, does Rosier just chill out on the couch until someone else summons him?
Truth. He doesn't seem to have changed her for the better.
I doubt living with a demon will do wonders for her psyche either.
She was wondering about if she was on the tipping point.
RebelVampire
more likely he does some soul collection and gtfo there but maybe not. i mean we have no idea what rosier's endgame is. hes a demon and demons usually up to no good
unless the character profile lied
and he really just wants to have an epic career as a ninja
MathTans the Pun Prince
Characters evolve. ^.^
RebelVampire
that they do
so idk
its up in the air now whatll go on with rosier
MathTans the Pun Prince
Rosier teaches Teo how to be a ninja next.
(Time for some oddball theories.)
RebelVampire
oh another theme thats kind of present is impulsiveness. cause lee obviously made an impulsive decision, teo implies his fame thing was kind of impulsive decision with the initial video.
but now that makes me wonder if ant also made an impulsive decision
MathTans the Pun Prince
Oooh, interesting, didn't pick up on that.
RebelVampire
and he had actually gone to lee's apartment to check on her
but then was like "baby i love you you so hot"
MathTans the Pun Prince
Maybe. Dude might as well have a devil on each shoulder if that's the case though.
RebelVampire
sometimes ppl do. not to say hes suddenly guiltless or anything. but maybe he didnt intend to get with her which is why he was so abrasive in a way with dana. trying to deny the deed
for himself
MathTans the Pun Prince
Yeah, except ticking off a blood witch seems like not good for self preservation. I dunno. Maybe he's more brainless than a jerk?
Like, he apparently doesn't know Lee half as well as he thinks.
RebelVampire
well to be fair he might just view her as mostly a scammer. since she does scam ppl apparently
QUESTION 3. Though Ant and Lee almost patch things up, Ant proves to be a cheater still. In her despair, Lee instructs the demon Rosier to kill Ant. However, there is clearly a soul at stake in this bargain. What do you think will happen to Lee now that Ant is dead? Will Rosier call for the soul now? Does the soul have to be Lee’s or is Rosier after Ant’s soul? Will Lee regret her actions or just rejoice Ant is dead? Will she become aware of how her actions have affected others or will she live in blissful ignorance of what she has wrought?
MathTans the Pun Prince
Oh, with palm reading? I didn't pick up on that.
RebelVampire
idk if it was with the palm reading. i just know ant mentioned her scamming and her profile mentions she scams college kids on the side
MathTans the Pun Prince
Gotcha. Regarding the question, huh, I just kind of assumed it was Ant's soul. Unless Lee interceded and found someone else.
zestwitch
I think Lee paid with her own soul
in exchange for the favor? Not 100% sure
MathTans the Pun Prince
I don't think Lee will regret killing Ant. I do think she might regret making Dana watch. Which she could learn about through Teo, if he ends up seeing a similar expression on Dana as the one Lee had when Rosier was hanging about. (It could just be me trying to ship the two women again.)
RebelVampire
yeah the comic was vague so anybody's soul is up for grabs. tho maybe its dana's soul thats gonna get taken cause shes there. it could be ant's soul tho. ant's soul makes sense since hes dead therefore his soul is not exactly using his body. but its a blood pact so lee's soul makes more sense
i think shell regret killing ant tho. especially if she goes and sees
cause she loved him at one point
and love is harder to get over than a moment of rage
MathTans the Pun Prince
Maybe. I guess it depends on how well she can put it behind her (which could be impossible depending on Rosier's actions next). Like, maybe she'd regret having caused someone's death, but I still hesitate on whether there was anyone else more worthy.
I wonder if anyone else will be miffed. Like, how can the police deal with something like this, when you've got an eyewitness talking about demons? Would she be written off as a loon, or are there X-Files agents out there who might start asking questions, annoying other witches?
RebelVampire
i doubt were gonna go x-files here
but now that you mention it
dana is probably going to jail or the psych ward
or is at least going to be prime suspect
cause she was the only one in the room
thered probably be no demon evidence
and lee whod have the most motive has an alibi kind of
MathTans the Pun Prince
Oh heck. I hadn't even considered that Dana'd be a suspect. (Not the odango girl, nuuu!) I don't think she'd have motive though, really. But yeah, kinda means and opportunity. THAT'S something Lee could feel guilty about.
Still wonder how prevalent such things are elsewhere in the world.
RebelVampire
id assume not very maybe. i mean at the very least, if theres witches about youd think someone wouldve summoned rosier much sooner
rather than wait at least 400 years
MathTans the Pun Prince
He might have been in self-imposed (or externally imposed) exile for that time.
Or maybe he's connected to Lee's bloodline specifically or something, and no one on her side of the family summoned him. Other bloodlines have other demons.
RebelVampire
hmm possibly
MathTans the Pun Prince
Or time passes different in the demon realms. I dunno, I'm making up stuff now. ^.^
What do they even do with souls?
Power their microwaves?
RebelVampire
that is a good question.
maybe eat them. using them for tennis practice
hard to say
rosier so vague
MathTans the Pun Prince
"I need soul!" "I'll play you some jazz music."
RebelVampire
LOL
regardless i feel like at the end lee wont have time to regret what happens to others. i feel shes gonna be focused on the fact she now has a spooky demon who has fulfilled his end of the bargain
MathTans the Pun Prince
It does take a while for that sort of thing to sink in. Lots happening in a short time frame here.
RebelVampire
although i would like to see lee at least regret the dana part. cause thats just cold hearted. she didnt even consider that dana got played just as much as she did
MathTans the Pun Prince
Yeah. Kind of a rude introduction to the spirit world there. (Ooh, I wonder if Dana might have some powers of her own...)
Like, maybe Ant likes to date people with connections to the spirit realm.
RebelVampire
queue the next chapter where dana gets her own blood pact going and rosier and another demon have epic demon fights
MathTans the Pun Prince
I'd read that. Particularly if while the demons are duking it out the pretty ladies just go off and make out somewhere. (Sorry, sorry, I'll try to get off this boat...)
I remember reading in the Q&A that Lee is bi. ^.^
RebelVampire
i think your ship is a bit doomed there considering lee just made the girl watch ant get sliced into sashimi
thats kind of a mood killer
MathTans the Pun Prince
Both of them may have regrets. ^.^
RebelVampire
QUESTION 4. The description of the story mentions it is about the “far-reaching consequences of one impulsive decision.” Considering the comic has switched to focusing on Teo now, what do you think will happen to Teo? Will his brief encounter with Lee make him a target for Rosier? Will his career or something else be affected because of how he interacted with Ant (who is now very dead)? Is there some foreshadowing in the palm reading that Teo received that can hint at what these consequences might be? Alternatively, is Teo a red herring and going to get off scot free?
MathTans the Pun Prince
Hmm... going back to something you said earlier, maybe Teo is being presented as a counterpoint to Ant. Like, maybe he was kind of a jerk when he was a few years younger, and now he's older and reformed and is doing good. (Both Teo and Ant have a daughter, I think?) So Lee sees what Ant could have become, if he lived.
RebelVampire
hmm thats an interesting interpretation.
i wonder if them both having daughters is going to be important
MathTans the Pun Prince
I also feel like Teo'll end up mixed up in things more owing to seeing the reactions of others to Rosier rather than interacting with the demon himself, since he's open to stuff like palm reading, plus that scene of Lee rushing him out of the place still resonates a bit (maybe because it was fairly recent in the narrative).
All guesswork, of course.
RebelVampire
it could be. or maybe hell see lee again cause something in the palm reading comes true.
so hes like holy crap and goes to see her again
and shes just hiding in the corner crying cause spook demon is about
MathTans the Pun Prince
That could be. I don't remember much of the palm stuff, I read it over the weekend. ^.^ But I could see that.
RebelVampire
the gist was basically "Teo your life sucks and it will continue to suck"
XD
or its possible that itll be on the news, ant's death that is
thanks napples
and while teo is with his bro hell be like "whoa i saw that guy this morning"
and then teo self reflects
tho maybe the outcome wont be negative
maybe hell see ant had a daughter and is like "i should spend more time with my kid"
Superjustin of Time and Space
I find it very unliekly
but what if somehow
MathTans the Pun Prince
Napples likes to get some digs in. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it'll make the news, what with the talk of graphic portrayal.
Superjustin of Time and Space
Ant returned form the grave
in spirit or something
MathTans the Pun Prince
Could be, Rebel.
RebelVampire
i could see as a spirity ghost. and rosier is like "here lee i got you this cheating boyfriend"
MathTans the Pun Prince
We don't know much about the spirit world, true SJ
Superjustin of Time and Space
lol
MathTans the Pun Prince
Could be the "soul" part that Rosier wants.
Superjustin of Time and Space
Perhaps
RebelVampire
maybe ant's ghost will haunt lee cause unfinished business and all that jazz
and he will eternally remind lee what she did
MathTans the Pun Prince
Smooth jazz music plays
Superjustin of Time and Space
yeah that sound slike a cool moment.
MathTans the Pun Prince
Maybe Lee ends up taking in Ant's daughter, and needs to turn to Teo for advice on how to raise a kid?
RebelVampire
maybe but id assume ant's daughter lives with the mom so that seems unlikely
tho maybe lee gets invited to the funeral
and meets ant's daughter
and is like oops
i killed someone's dad
MathTans the Pun Prince
Who is also Teo's aunt! Dun dun dun.
(The mom who is also the aunt that is. Not Lee.)
The circumstances of how their threads weave back together will be interesting either way, I think
RebelVampire
yeah i look forward to seeing how things reconnect. cause the change in focus really has me curious where its going to go. like is it going to be a dual protagonist situation where it switches back and forth between them. or is it going to have more
like maybe after teo we follow teo's bro or something
MathTans the Pun Prince
Or maybe it's less a dual protagonist thing and is more protagonist/antagonist. Lee's already indicated she thinks she's not a good person.
Maybe Teo tries to help Dana or something, and Lee says screw that noise, and they end up on opposite sides of the coin.
RebelVampire
could be although i feel like lee isnt going to go that far. i mean she was certainly the villain when it came to ant and dana, but i dont feel shes going to continue down the evil path. unless what rosier wants with a soul is to have some servant of evil. in which case maybe lee will just serve him and bring him victim after victim
MathTans the Pun Prince
I don't see her continuing down it unless Rosier's involved, yeah. Guess we'll see.
Anyway, before things wrap, just want to mention again that backgrounds were done very well in my opinion. Also all the best to the author and thyroids, my wife has trouble with hers, they can be problematic.
RebelVampire
yes i hope the author is doing better. illnesses of any kind suck
but yeah the backgrounds are nice
tho i think the art is general has a really nice, well-done style
i really love lee's witch outfit
MathTans the Pun Prince
Truth.
The hair progression in the Q&A was neat too.
