Against my better judgement and bc I love making myself angry for no reason I’m gonna sorta kinda re-read bnha again but like only the parts I give a shit about by which I mean the parts about the todokids (and also toga bc #yuri) the only problem is that the parts with the todokids (my favorite characters) are also the parts with endeavor (my least favorite character). So like post chapter 167 when horikoshi is starting to dicksuck endeavor all the time I’m gonna be somewhat insufferable. And anything after chapter 290 I’m gonna really be bitching. So watch out I guess. Block uhh.. "#bnha rr" if u don’t wanna put up with it

You’ve answered how to write a good tragedy....So how do you write a good redemption story?
Hi! So, I’ve addressed this before, primarily here. If you’ll notice, all the predictions for how this would play out in Enji’s arc have come to pass, soooo. We’re now in the “acceptance” and “more suffering” phases for him. He’ll likely get to penance via what I’ve been also predicting from the start (see Hawks stans this is not a new prediction for me).
If we wanna break these down even further, the thing about Dabi and Shigaraki (less Toga because, well, Hori and the female character dilemma) is that their arcs are systemic. So let’s examine these arcs, because you can see a pattern in these steps between fathers and sons. (Idk what’s going on with the numbering thing but w/e).
Initial crime:
Endeavor marries Rei and forces her to produce children whom he plans to use to further his own ambitions as a hero.
Touya helps kidnap Bakugou.
Nana Shimura abandons her son, Koutarou, and then dies a hero but alone.
Tenko kills his family and is left all alone.
A worsening of the crime:
Endeavor abuses his family.
Touya targets his family with Natsu and Shouto, kills 30 people, etc.
Koutarou abuses his children.
Tenko becomes Shigaraki and targets kids at UA, spirals as a villain.
Reckoning/refusal of the reckoning:
Endeavor: Touya dies and he locks Rei up and refuses to accept that it might just be his fault. Continues to treat Shouto awfully.
Touya rejects Shouto on the battlefield and rejects himself.
Koutarou’s wife tells him she’ll leave him if he hurts Tenko again . Three seconds later he attacks his son.
Tenko rejects his family (this isn’t bad since they asked him to die) but emerges from his coma to control Gigantomachia and kills a bunch of people.
Suffering:
Endeavor’s family doesn’t accept his attempts to change and his reputation is now trash after a Dabi Todoroki reveal.
Touya’s all alone and more burned than ever.
Nana’s legacy is utterly trashed because her grandson is being used against her by the man who murdered her.
Tenko is having his mind literally controlled and not allowed to be his own person/establish his own legacy.
Acceptance:
Thank you Rei Todoroki. We’re at that moment with Enji right now. He knows it is all his fault and will not deny it.
Touya: now he’s finally outed himself as Todoroki Touya. We’ll see what this looks like for him in the future.
All Might and Gran Torino are showing a bit of this what with GT wondering if they did the right thing, as is Deku through his musing that Shigaraki looks like he wants to be saved (as carriers of OFA, they carry on Nana’s legacy). There’s more to be done.
Shigaraki’s gonna have to accept AFO sucks. He’s already showing signs of this through not wanting him to take control.
More suffering:
Buckle up buttercup Enji’s suffering is just beginning. He cannot deny his son in the media,
Touya’s probably going to Go Through It with AFO and the League and perhaps Hawks going after him.
All Might is probably going to have to suffer a bit and realize that his cowardice in not tracking Shigaraki in the first place makes him somewhat at fault.
Shigaraki’s probably going to wrestle for control of his very essence.
Penance/Sacrifice
See this is where my Enji-Hawks prediction comes in. I really think Enji needs to sacrifice himself to save Touya from something (it doesn’t have to be Hawks, but that’s my current theory); however, he will probably survive.
Shouto will probably get through to Dabi, and Dabi will probably help in the final battle. Yes, he’s going to have to do something to fight.
All Might might sacrifice his life to reach Shigaraki in a Han Solo/Kylo Ren type way, or he might not. He might also live, but I’m less optimistic.
Deku will probably get through to Shigaraki, who will use his quirk to destroy AFO and perhaps quirkdom entirely.
Forgiveness.
The integration of the separate arcs of father and son: Endeavor and Touya will probably both get a chance to heal and be a part of their family.
Deku will probably be the last OFA holder and establish the legacy of heroes with Tenko’s help. Hopefully they will establish a better society with the help of Touya and Toga, a society that saves victims.
I also think that, while there are very valid criticisms of why the trope tends to be this way, often the more suffering=the better the chances of not having a character die. The reason I think Dabi and Shigaraki have good chances is that their entire lives have been suffering. It’s just not particularly thrilling for their suffering to mean just death in the end. Enji is more of a risk than they are because afawk he hasn’t suffered all his life, but he’s still probably not gonna die imo.

🖤 chapter navigation 🖤
Tumblr media
It's been... what, 3 weeks? 3 weeks since that incident wherein Y/n has blown Touya's cover. A huge fight between them happened after that night— the day she returned his belongings. The young woman didn't even waste her time confronting him. It wasn't the most delightful reunion; but a tragic and hurtful one for the both of them— especially to Y/n.
Tumblr media
"Here's your stuff." Y/n spoke while she was trying to hand out Touya's black leather wallet. He grabbed it from her hands and stared at her face— meeting her emotionless eyes; still in-shock from what she discovered. It was something that's hard to swallow for her.
"Thanks." Touya attempted to leave, immediately going towards the door after she gave his things.
Y/n rolled her eyes as she began to become shady, sneering at him with her words. "You're so used to running away as if nothing happened, aren't you? Then tomorrow, you'd come back as if nothing happened again."
Touya closed his eyes and let out a deep sigh as he was stopped from his tracks. Yes, he knew that this moment would come— the day she discovers the truth behind his identity. But still, he never knew that it would come too soon— and that it would be this tragic. He felt his guts tightening from stress and pressure; until small flames began to appear on his skin. Ah, it's been a long time ever since his quirk was used; the sensation that the blue fire left on his skin was purely nostalgic to him.
He turned to Y/n and began to face her direction. The young woman's eyes slightly widened but a stoic expression was still displayed on her face. Isn't he used to running away? What is he doing?
"I'm sorry." Touya apologized, coming towards her and attempting to hold both of her hands. Y/n's eyebrows furrowed at his gestures as she began to look away. "I-I know I couldn't come back as someone who I used to be. That's why I did everything so—"
"And you think you can come back just like that?" Y/n's voice was shaking as hot tears began to dwell on her eyes— falling and staining both of her cheeks. "Dabi, you really have no idea how hard it was for me, don't you? You have no idea how difficult it is to find happiness after what you did to me, right?"
He couldn't cry— despite going through a massive surgery, his tear ducts were still burnt. And so, blood came out from his eyes; which caused a bit of panic to Y/n. But they were both crying now— and she didn't know what to do.
"P-Please." Y/n pleaded, removing his hands from her skin. "Stop seeing me and Yuta. Just leave, Dabi."
Tumblr media
After that fight, Touya couldn't be seen anywhere. He stopped appearing from work and he also stopped visiting Y/n and Yuta from time to time. It was painful for the both of them— but Y/n knows that she needed time to think; to absorb everything that has unfolded right before her eyes. And as for Touya, he needs to reflect on what he did— and to ask for Y/n's forgiveness. It was bittersweet— but shouldn't it be like that?
Y/n could still remember the disappointment in Yuta's face when she said that he'll never come back. The young boy would always look at the windows to see if his beloved Uncle Touya was there— but of no avail, no one came. She felt bad for her son. Perhaps, it was too harsh for her to decide on her own without even asking her son? Y/n didn't know. But what she knows is what she did— would be the best for all of them right now.
It was a typical Sunday morning for the mother and son duo— Y/n was cooking lunch for the both of them while Yuta was in the backyard playing alone. While the young woman was cooking, loads of questions began to float in her mind.
How did Dabi survive? How did he change his name to Touya? Why did he decide to come back? Just... how did everything turn out to be as it is right now?
It wasn't too long until her thoughts were interrupted after hearing a child-like scream from the area where Yuta was playing. She immediately turned off the stove and rushed towards the scene with her mind filled with panic. Her eyes met her unconscious son who was laying on the ground with light blue flames appearing on his frail-looking body. His skin was bruised— and it was quite obvious that he was trying to catch his breath. Did Yuta perhaps... try to train himself?
Despite the high temperature surrounding his body, Y/n's maternal instincts didn't care. She carried the young child in her arms and rushed him towards the nearest hospital.
Tumblr media
"I know I was the one who told you to never come back. But I really need your help this time, Dabi." Y/n guiltily looked at her toes as she spoke to the red-haired man right before her eyes; meeting his blue unreadable orbs.
It's been two days since Y/n and Yuta returned from the hospital. He was unconscious for at least 5 hours— but Y/n decided to confine him in order to assure that his body is in the right track before they could be released.
"Just call me by my real name, Touya." He spoke as he took a sip from the cup of tea that Y/n prepared for him when he visited. The young woman rolled her eyes in return and said, "Whatever, Touya."
"Anyway, I know we're not okay right now... but you have to stick around. At least not for me, but for Yuta." Y/n swallowed before speaking— just like how she'd swallow her pride just for her son to feel more better about his quirk.
"Apparently, Yuta's body was too frail for his quirk— which is why he was left unconscious while trying to train himself on how to control it." She explained, showing him papers in order to prove her point— which Touya immediately read once he received it.
A small smirk appeared on his face as he began to look at the records. "Guess the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, huh?"
"Train him please." Y/n spoke in a soft tone as she pleaded. "Y-you're the only person I could ask about this. You have the same quirk as him."
A moment of silence wrapped around the room. It was uncomfortable for Y/n, considering that she can't really determine what Touya was thinking.
Meanwhile, the young man was drowning in his thoughts too. His hands were shaking— that old trauma once again came back. What if he becomes like the older man who raised him? What if he ends up hurting Yuta? What if Yuta ends up becoming a young man who claimed the innocent lives of 30 people? What if he ends up becoming like Dabi? But suddenly, these negative ideas began to disappear as he felt a pair of warm hands hold his'. It was Y/n— oh god, did he miss the feeling of those hands.
"Once everything becomes fine, I'll introduce you as his father." Y/n claimed as she squeezed his both hands tightly. "Compensate for your loss now, Touya."
And eventually, without even having any second thought, these words came out from his lips— almost like a slip.
"I will do it." He spoke in a deep tone, "I will not be like my father."

"You will be in my heart"
(A/n): Phill Collins bless your soul for this song.
Dabi is a todoroki theory is in here. Wow, and it shocks no one.
Tumblr media
Having a baby is not easy.
Fuck those books for newly parents whose said "Having a baby does not give much work", no. Hell no. Ever smelled a dirty diaper? Its gross. Plenty of gross. SUPER GROSS. Pukes, drools you name it.
Yet you couldn't be more happier. Your daughter Rei despite being a troublemaker was the light of your life. And for her father, her little firecrackers. A stupid nickname for a baby, but oh well, that's the man you fell for.
"Dabi-" you called from the kitchen after washing the dishes, damn sink washed you along with it "Stop teaching Rei about how awfull Enji is-" you giggled "Probably she will never meet him!"
He turned to look at you over his shoulder, his baby girl on the middle of his legs as she pointed at the hero on the screen and ocasionally mumbled irritated and angry baby noises.
The damage was done.
"She at least is learning about the fake hero society. Cant disagree with me that Enji is a completely as-"
"Dabi." You scolded but smiled no pess as hs smirked before Rei started to babble on his lap, extending her chubby hands at his face.
"What now lil' firecracker? Tired of seing Enji's face I see. Dont worry. I get sick from sieng him to." He grabbed her bu her armpits and nuzzled his pierced nose along with hers making her giggled "Yes, daddy does."
"I wonder how the league would react to seing you all mushy with a baby like that." You giggled while sitting down on his side as he only glanced at you with a poker face.
Rei extended her arms at you and let out a baby laugh. Cooing, you picked up your daughter with glee in your lap. Dabi still playing with her tiny fingers along with his own much bigger ones.
"Her hair is getting bigger." You tussled on the few red looks of Rei "Maybe is time for her first haircut, what do you think?" You looked at Dabi whose probably was way too distracted with Reu to even pay attention on you.
You were so relieved that even despite showing signs that he was aprehensive at the idea, Dabi still welcomed Rei with open arms. The only problem was that, deep inside his sarcastic and thick skull, was this unconditional fear of being the same father Endeavour was. Give his kid the same treatment he received as a brat once.
It always followed him around like a ghost. But in the moment he saw Rei's eyes or heard your words... he was on cloud nine. The happines he hadn't gotten in his early years was right there, literally on his hands as he played with the bundle of joy that was Rei.
"Sorry to interrupt you two." You giggled at the confused sound Dabi let out before looking at the clock. Sighing and getting up.
"Guess is your turn to put her to sleep." He said begrudily, making you laugh since you never saw someone fight over to put their child to sleep first. You two had to make an agrement that each time Rei was going to sleep, you had to divide.
"My turn~" you poked your tongue out at him as he deadpanned while you carried Rei to her crib.
After some time, you two decided to have some, ahem, alone time and it let you two quite exausted. Making you both to just knocked out on the bed... especially since dabi was eager to touch in any way he could.
In other words, fast and rough yet pleasant ass fuck. Okay? Okay, moving on.
Although that peace lasted for only a short of minutes before you heard little cries from the other room of the apartment. Both of you groaned even at the thought of getting out of the bed.
When you tried to get off from his chest he just pulled you back as you groaned.
"Dabi, Rei is-"
"I will go. Stay here doll face." He got up while carefully laying you back down on the bed, his smirk present as the light of the streets iluminated his face. "After all, I bet you're exausted after me doing-"
"Just go you dickhead." You threw a pillow at him as he chuckled quietly, leaving your body relax on the cold sheets and without his warm body to help you.
The blankets werent enough. Is not even about to get warm, but is only for getting physical and emotionally close to ex-villain you happen to fall in love with.
Getting to know the real Toya Dabi was like founding a diamond on the middle of a bunch of coals. Due to his past, no one could ever blame this man to secluded to himself, have trust issues and have a deep anger angst the fake and popular hero society that everyone always venerate.
The man behind that sarcastic, cold and uncaring persona was a dork. No, really, Dabi is a dork. A loveable dorky idiot. You loved him, and you only fell more for the scarred man when he demonstrate all the love and care for that little human being that had your genetics along with his.
Lost on your thoughts, you furrowed your eyebrows at seeing that dabi hadn't come back in more than one hour. Sighing, you got up and went after Dabi and your Rei.
Although, when you were on your way you heard his voice. Probably even baby talking; yes, rarely he does that; with Rei. You tip toed until you exited your bedroom until Rei's bedroom door frame and poked your head only to see Dabi, stoic face as usual as he rocked the baby in his arms, maintaining eye contact with the infant.
"One last time and you have to sleep. Deal?" He whispered while poking Rei's nose whose shrieked cutely before babbling and clapping her hands "Deal."
You furrowed your eyebrows at his worlds before widening your eyes at hearing and seeing Dabi swoon on his feet with Rei on his arms and doing the last thing you thought he could do.
Sing.
"Come stop your crying
It will be alright
Just take my hand
Hold it tight." He took one of his hands and showed nonchantly to his daughter whose cooed and grabbed at two of his fingers with her baby hands.
"I will protect you
From all around you
I will be here
Don't you cry~" he hushed her when she started to babble while still on his motions.
"For one so small
You seem so strong
My arms will hold you
Keep you safe and warm" he brought her close to hsi face and did the same thing he did earlier with the esquimos kisses as she reached for his face to try to pick his staples, you giggled behind your hand and luckily Dabi didn't noticed you.
"This bond between us
Can't be broken
I will be here
Don't you cry" Rei, after a lifetime, finally let out a yawn and cuddled on her father's chest for warmth as you envy her for a moment.
"'Cause you'll be in my heart
Yes, you'll be in my heart
From this day on
Now and forever more
You'll be in my heart
No matter what they say
You'll be here in my heart, always..." he whispered teh last word as he notices she finally closed her eyes and puffs of air as he sighed in relief. Slowly and carefully putting her back to the crib... not leaving until he carresed her cheek with two fingers before getting out with hands stuffed on his pockets.
The poor man almost set you on fire when he saw you when he closed the door.
"You're have the courage to set the mother of your kid on fire?!" You giggled after jumping in guard whem he started to use his quirk.
"Dont scare me to death, I thought you were asleep." He turned down the flames and looked at you, smilling like a dork at him as he squinted his eyes and glared at you. "How much did you hear?"
"All of it." You smirked.
You had to settled down your laughter just tonort wake up your sleeping daughter at seing the all big and bad Dabi blush at being caught singing a music to his baby.

Yandere dabi with his y/n his sister
There are many different ways this can be written but I chose to stick with gross path hehe... But it also follows the theory that Dabi is Touya so yeah! Hope you enjoy!
Yandere Dabi x Sister reader
Tw: Yandere, gross stuff, incest, nsfw
Enjoy!
💙Shoto's screams of pain echo through the house as he was brutally trained at the age of four. All his siblings cringe, trying to block out past memories of the pain.
💙They all had to go through that torture, Touya being the oldest and still occasionally having to go back and train.
💙They were all complacent, knowing and accepting that they'd have to live with this. Well, Touya was untill you were born.
💙You were an accidental pregnancy. Endeavor already had what he wanted out of his quirk marriage but was pleased to find you had the same quirk mash up as todoroki, indicated by the snow white and deep red of your hair.
💙Touya didn't understand what was so different about you. You were just a baby born into this hell hole of a family but you seemed too pure to be put into this, almost like you were born into the wrong family by mistake.
💙Touya took it upon himself to take care of you, even if he was only still a kid himself. He slept in your nursery every night, he fed and made meals for you, he changed your diapers and bathed you, he even ditched your other siblings to spend all his time with you.
💙It was close to your fourth birthday when Touya heard Endeavor telling Shoto that you were almost ready to start training.
💙Touya instantly went into his flight or flight mode and planned his escape with you.
💙He waited untill everyone was indefinitely asleep and planted the evidence of his death, also making it seem like you were dead as well. He than ran. A fifteen year old with a four year old with nothing in the dead of night trying to erase their past.
💙Touya takes you to a gas station, spending some of the little money he had on hair dye and cereal, managing to snag a few candy and energy bars without the cashier knowing. He then takes you to a motel to spend the night. It wasn't much but it was somewhere to stay for the night.
💙Making sure the door was locked and windows covered, Touya begins to ease his past. His skin was already burnt beyond recognition so all he had to do was dye his hair. He had settled for black.
💙As the dye soaked into his hair he began to dye yours as well. He bleached the red, reassuring you that the fowl smell of bleach would be gone when you washed your hair. After the bleach was washed out, he then dyed your hair a nice shade of (h/c).
💙He sits with you after the two of you shower, tv on a low volume with cartoons playing. You didn't really understand what was happening or where you were but you didn't mind, you had your big brother there to take care of you. That's all that mattered.
💙That's how your new life started, always on the run. Touya, or Dabi now, became a villain and shoplifted all the things you'd ever need. He always started fires for no reason.
💙Over the years you also forgot your family, only believing it was just you and Dabi. Dabi had said the two of you came from a horrible family and that he saved you.
💙You never admired or loved anyone more. Too bad he didn't deserve it.
💙Dabi did love you and would die for you, it was just the thoughts and actions he did for you.
💙The petty theft and robbery was for essentials but he always managed to snag clothes for you or candy or a teddy bear.
💙His random fires weren't so random either. Sometimes he would set stuff aflame because you thought his flames were pretty but he mainly did it to make others suffer. Like the guys who'd catcall you, people who would bump into you, or if they even look at HIS sister. They'd be burned that night but he'd keep it a secret so you didn't worry your pretty little head.
💙Oh that pretty little head of yours... how he wished it would lean in and kiss him.... or bob up and down while your mouth sucked him off.
💙You were only 15 now but that didn't prevent his wild imagination. He also knew his overall thoughts about you were sickening to others, but that doesn't matter. You're his.
💙You and Dabi share a bed at night, mainly because you had no idea how to sleep alone and Dabi would refuse to leave your side. Sometimes you snuggle up into his chest or he spoons you from behind. You never thought anything of this, even when his hands would start to wonder.
💙Some nights you'd wake up to your brother's rough hand or hands slipping under your shirt and in your pants while something poked the back of your thighs.
💙You always call out to him in a sleepy voice to see if he was awake or not, due to your back being against him. He never responds so you assume he's sleeping.
💙His hands continue touching you in more private places that make you squirm but you do anything to wake Dabi up. This was a normal thing. Dabi said it was a normal thing the really close siblings did. You believed him.
💙You can't help the sounds that escape you lips and seem to encourage him to touch you harder and faster. The hard thing that was poking your thigh had now found it's way between your thighs and was rocking back and forth.
💙Your "touching" session ends when something warm and sticky shoot onto your thighs and when Dabi pulls you close with his heavy breathing on your neck.
💙Your hands intertwine with his as you try and fall asleep again, unaware of the devious smirk Dabi has on his face.
💙He adored how you listened to his every word like your life depends on it. He would always stopped if you asked but he knew you wouldn't.
💙It also tired him. He had always made the first move. He wanted you on top of him, being rough and demanding.
💙That was a far away fantasy that couldn't be achieved with his panty sniffing and "asleep" touching.
💙Sadly, for Dabi, everything changed when the two of you joined L.O.V.
💙Instantly Toga was all over you, wanting to know your whole like story while holding you in a bone crushing hug.
💙You could tell that her touching you bothered him so you try to pry yourself from her. She doesn't let you leave.
💙Dabi aggressively flings her off of you and pulls you close, threatening her and the others in to room.
💙Tension dies down as everyone shuffles into their new rooms. You were offered your own room but you decline and bunk with Dabi.
💙This seemed perfect to you. You and your big brother living somewhere! Not just drifting place to place.
💙But the league started to grow and more and more people started to become interested in you, due to your lack of interaction with anyone besides Dabi.
💙Their interest in you upset Dabi beyond belief. He had to restrict from killing them all every second he sees them.
💙The boiling point was when Spinner asked you on a date.
💙You didn't have a chance to respond before Dabi's hand grabbed his face and set it a blaze, successfully causeing pain and killing him.
💙Everyone watches in disbelief as you were carried out of the base, never to return again.
💙But you didn't care.
💙All you ever wanted was given to you by Dabi.
💙He was all you ever needed.

why tōya being the oldest todoroki sibling makes no (or very little) sense.
Warning: Manga spoilers. Long post ahead - big paragraphs, lots of reading, and at least one (1) rabbit trail.
So I know this is old news, but I’ve been meaning to make a post about it for a little while now. I know a lot of people already headcanoned that Tōya was the oldest Todoroki sibling even before it was officially confirmed, but it just never really made sense to me, particularly in regard to Enji’s timeline. And then, after Chapter 291 came out, it made even less sense.
(A couple of quick disclaimers, before I continue: I’m not trying to pass anything off as fact. My conclusions are simply opinions based on observations I’ve made. I’ll also note that there are definitely gaps in what information we do officially have, so there is still a chance that what seems to me like a fairly significant plothole will eventually be explained.)
I’ll start with Enji - more specifically, his current confirmed age in relation to Fuyumi’s, who is the oldest Todoroki sibling whose age we do officially know. As of the current manga arc, Enji is 46 years old, and Fuyumi is 23. Since Enji’s birthday is in early August and Fuyumi’s in early December, that means that Enji was a little over 23 years old when he and Rei had Fuyumi.
From what we know of Enji’s history and personality, that seems like a reasonable age for him to have started having kids. He said in Ch. 165 that he became Number Two at age 20, at which point he immediately realized that he wasn’t ever going to be able to surpass All Might on his own. He said that it was because of this realization that he passed the torch (no pun intended) to Shōto. But, Shōto wouldn’t be born until a decade later. So, it makes sense to me that this would be the point that Enji decided it would be best to instead try having a child that could surpass All Might. In other words, it makes sense that this would be the catalyst that led to Shōto’s birth.
Tumblr media
The most recent information we got regarding Enji and Rei’s relationship in Ch. 291 seems to be just a bit conflicting with how Shōto had described things back in Ch. 31 - unlike Shōto’s account, Ch. 291 sort of implied that Enji did care for Rei to some capacity, at least early in their marriage. (How he’s been portrayed in flashbacks recently is actually very conflicting with flashbacks from earlier chapters, and even with his entire personality in earlier chapters. But I won’t get into that - we’ll just make the assumption that Shōto’s story was biased, because it probably was.)
Since he essentially bought Rei’s family off, it only makes sense that he would have to grow to care for her over a period of time - you know, maybe like a year or two. I’m not sure how long the entire Quirk Marriage process took, but factoring in the 9 or so months Rei had to carry Fuyumi before she was born, it makes sense that after Enji’s realization upon attaining the Number Two title, the entire process of creating the plan of having hyper-powerful children, finding a suitable partner, buying her family off, marrying her, and having their first child would take anywhere between two to three years. That would mean that he was 20 when the process started, 22 when Rei got pregnant, and 23 when Fuyumi was born. Boom.
(Frankly, even that timeframe seems a bit compressed to me, but since Enji’s and Fuyumi’s ages are both canonically set in stone, I have no choice but to work with it.)
Tumblr media
Tōya canonically being older than Fuyumi begins to screw a lot with the timeline - especially taking into consideration what the implied age gap between them is. I unfortunately can’t find where (or if) this is explicitly stated in the manga, but the wiki says that most Quirks develop around the age of 4. Now, it’s entirely possible that Tōya was born with his Quirk, but given Rei’s constitution, I highly suspect that there would have been severe complications with both her pregnancy and Tōya’s birth. It also makes sense that if he had developed his Quirk at an exceptionally young age, there would have been some note made of it. But since neither of those things are mentioned to have happened, we’ll just assume he was between 3 and 4½ years old when his Quirk manifested.
I don’t know how long afterward it took for Enji and Rei to decide to have another baby, but I can’t imagine that the decision took any longer than several months. I’ll be conservative and say that they decided no longer than a few months after Tōya’s Quirk developed, because remember - Enji literally, canonically cannot be any older than 23 when Fuyumi was born. Jumping 9 months forward from that time, Tōya would most likely have been between 4 and 5 years old when Fuyumi was born.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now I will note that in the top panel, Tōya looks to me to be between 4 and 6 years old, which was presented as being before Fuyumi’s birth. But in the lower one, where he’s crawling over to look at baby Fuyumi (or at least I think that’s what’s happening? It’s a bit dark to tell for certain), he looks a lot younger - in fact, he doesn’t even look to have the white streak in his hair yet. But given how it’s explained that Enji and Rei even came to the decision to have Fuyumi at all, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense contextually. But, I’ll let it be and just assume that the manga didn’t present those panels chronologically. It could also be the zoomed-out view that makes Tōya seem smaller. Either way, I’m overanalyzing, and that’s sort of off-topic, anyway.
Okay, I think that’s all the setup I need to finally get to the meat of my argument, which I will start with this: If Tōya is anywhere between 4 and 5 years older than Fuyumi, that means that Enji was anywhere between 18 and 19 years old when Tōya was born.
In any other situation, that might make sense, but here’s the thing: it’s already been established, or at least very heavily implied, that Enji didn’t even consider the possibility of having children to surpass All Might until he attained his Number Two status, which as I’ve already mentioned happened when he was 20. Even if Tōya was only 3 years older than Fuyumi, which doesn’t make much sense because he would then have had to develop his Quirk at age 2 or younger, that still would mean that he was conceived before Enji even became Number Two.
If that doesn’t make sense to you, think of it this way: If Enji was between 18 and 20 years old when Tōya was born, that would mean that Tōya would have been conceived when Enji was 17 at the youngest - still a student, unless he graduated early. Regardless, that also implies he would have had to create his elaborate plan to beat All Might, as well as find and marry Rei, before he even graduated secondary school. Given what information we have from canon, that just does not make any semblance of sense.
As compelling that argument alone may or may not be, there are others to support it as well. Let’s consider what that implies for the age gaps between Tōya and the other Todoroki siblings. If he’s 3-5 years older than Fuyumi, that means he’s roughly 7-9 years older than Natsuo and 10-12 years older than Shōto. That would mean, if Shōto were between 5 and 6 years old in the following panels, Tōya would be anywhere between 15 and 18 years old. Fuyumi would be between 10 and 13, and Natsuo would be between 8 and 11.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While I understand that Tōya inherited Rei’s slight constitution, puberty usually begins for boys around 12 or 13 years old (although to my understanding it often starts later in Asian boys), so Tōya would likely have already begun to go through his growth spurt by this age. Even assuming that Natsuo had started going through his own growth spurt, Tōya still has 7-9 years on him - so the chances that Natsuo had this much height and mass on him are pretty slim. I might be able to buy Tōya being 15 years old in those panels, but I find even that a bit of a stretch.
And finally, let’s talk about how old Tōya was when he “died.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Assuming that the second panel is the most recent (halfway decent) photo the Todorokis have of Tōya before his “death,” I’m inclined to agree with the people who have pointed out that his clothes resembled a junior high school uniform, similar to what Midoriya and Bakugō were seen wearing in the story’s earliest chapters and episodes. Junior high school in Japan is attended by students between the ages of 12 and 15, roughly - so it’s safe to assume that Tōya was no older than 15 years old when he “died.” However, I will note that given how Horikoshi draws most of the 15-year-old male characters in the story, he does look younger than that to me. I am keeping in mind that Tōya was mentioned to have had a slight build - even as Dabi, he still does - so there is the possibility that my conclusions there aren’t accurate.
If Tōya was 12 when he “died,” Shōto would probably not have any memories of him at all - at the time of his “death,” he would have been anywhere between 2 years old and a newborn. It’s implied in the manga and the anime that Tōya disappeared sometime after Rei burned Shōto’s face, which undoubtedly happened after Enji had begun to train him - so, likely well after he had turned 5. In the somewhat unlikely event that his face was burned while he was still 5 years old, Tōya would have been between 15 and 18 years old, as mentioned above. If it had happened when Shōto was 7, he would have been between 17 and 20, and so on. Going with the junior high school uniform theory, which honestly seems rather plausible, he essentially cannot have “died” after age 15 - so, more than likely, he would have been gone before Shōto even began his training. Obviously, this is disproven by the soccer panel in Ch. 39.
Honestly, I don’t know how else to say it - no matter how I angle it, it just does not make sense to me, canonically, that Tōya is the eldest Todoroki sibling. There’s a lot of information stacked up against it, and though I’ve mulled over it for a bit now, I can’t actually think of a scenario in which it actually is a logical conclusion.
TL;DR: Tōya being the oldest Todoroki doesn’t make sense in light of information we have regarding Enji’s timeline as well as previous images we’ve seen in the manga and anime.

the less i know, the better ;
written for my dearest friend and fellow dabi enthusiast, even though i’m not telling you what my blog is called and you hate angst.
word count: 520
warnings & shizz: light angst, slight unhealthy relationship, idk, implied dabi is a todoroki theory, me not knowing how to write in the second person
❝ i can make you feel alive. ❞
❝ i know, but do i need you to survive? ❞
                     — jack stauber, ‘coffee’.
Tumblr media
There’s an empty cup on the table—half-full with the drainings of your early morning drink. You sit, legs propped up on your coffee table for comfort. You play with your thumbs to pass the time, too anxious to go to sleep, yet too relaxed to move from your spot to turn on the TV.
So you sit, waiting anxiously for him to come back.
Who’s ‘him‘?
Dabi—he tells you his name is. You know better than to presume it’s his real name, but, when you press him on it, he either ignores you or comes up with a snarky remark as to what his true name is.
After a month of dating, you learn not to question him. It tugs on the back of your mind from time to time, not knowing who your lover/boyfriend really is and not knowing why the mention of it ilicits a bad reaction, but you suppose you keep your own secrets from him too so you can’t necessarily fault him on that premise, right?
Right?
Dabi works long shifts—that’s why he’s not home right now, even as night falls onto your cosy, little house. He doesn’t tell you what kind of work he does but you assume its either construction or security at an obscure hero agency, due to him coming home drenched in sweat and sometimes with multiple scars cutting into his few patches of pristine skin.
Just a scuffle at work, you tell yourself as you bandage him up.
It’s got to be—
It’s got to be—
Sometimes, Dabi invites a friend around. Himiko, you think she introduced herself as in that cheery, upbeat voice of hers. Now, whilst you don’t know Dabi’s exact age (another thing he’s neglected to tell you), you do know he’s got to be above twenty—judging by the way he carries himself and his proportions. It scared you when he brought home a sixteen-year-old schoolgirl and you didn’t neglect to air your concerns.
Thus commenced your first, real argument as a couple.
He brushed it off as just a daughter of a friend who was just a little clingy (which was obvious to you as you observe her behaviour around your house) and who he was asked to pretty much babysit when her parents were at work.
And you—
You believed him.
Because you so badly wanted to love him and for him to love you.
You still kept your eye out for any romantic interactions between the two (which would prompt you to immediately call the police), but, so far, you’ve found none.
Sitting here, all alone, you wonder if Dabi’s actually going to come home tonight.
He’d done it before, after all. Just left you at home, all alone, with no prior warning—leaving you worried for his wellbeing and safety and stressing out in his absence,
The first time he said his supervisor had made him stay the night, the second, he said he wanted to go see a movie with ‘friends’ at ten PM and decided to say over at their’s for the night, the third he simply shrugged and gave you no reason and ever since then he’d just hand you his jacket and go to sleep on the couch—no ‘hello’, no explanation as to where he’d been, nothing.
You decided to look on the bright side, however, because, at least, he was still with you.
At least, he still called you ‘babe’ and ‘princess’...
At least, he still said he loved you... When you’d asked him to...
At least, he still nuzzled into you the few times he did come home...
At least, you were still living a lie...
...
...
...
And you were fine with that...

Some Dabi (going with the he’s a Todoroki theory) enamored with a young lady at mental hospital where his mother is at. She’s sheltered country girl who moved to the city to be a nurse because of her unique healing quirk. He loves how kind she is and caring she is for attending to his mother and the ideas begin to form she would make a wonderful wife and mother. After all his mother seems to approve of her...
human brain: you’re writing Dabi too soft, he’s a villain!
Monkey brain: he’s my soft boi and i love him
Caretaker (Yandere DabixReader)
Dabi was startled when he met you, to say the very least. He had snuck into the hospital at night, not wanting to be seen. Of course, coming to the hospital at all was a risk, no matter what time of day he went, but that would never stop him. Still, he didn’t see the point in trying to sneak in during the day, when the multitude of nurses and visitors may see him. The hospital was much more quiet at night, with only a few night nurse and some lazy security guards to worry about. And thankfully, his mother was more than happy to keep his visits a secret. But thinking back on it, he supposed that someone was going to find out sooner or later. Dabi had been talking quietly with Rei, glad to be catching up with her, when you walked through the door, carrying a small paper bag.
“Hi, Rei,” you whispered, “I-” You paused, suddenly realizing that there was another person in the room with you. As both you and Dabi took in each other’s appearance, the two of you searched for something to say. Your eyes flew over Dabi’s scars, while his eyes examined your bright eyes and nurse’s uniform. You two were speechless for a moment, until Rei broke the silence.
“(Y/N), before you say anything, please let me explain.” You looked at Rei in clear confusion.
“What’s going on? Visitor hours are long over. Who is this anyway?”
“I’m her son,” Dabi growled at you, causing his mother to hold up a hand as a signal to calm down.
“This is my son, Touya. He-he can’t visit during the day.” Your expression cleared, some of your tension leaving.
“Because of Endeavor,” you said, less of a question and more of a statement.
“Yes. They-they don’t get along.” You sighed in response, nodding understandingly.
“Okay. I won’t tell. You two need to be careful though.” Rei smiled at your agreement, but Dabi wasn’t quite so trusting.
“How do we actually know you won’t say anything?” Rei turned to him to explain.
“We can trust (Y/N). She sneaks in stuff for me sometimes. She’s one of the good ones,” Rei finished, giving you a wink. You smiled back at her, and moved forward with the paper bag in your hands.
“That reminds me,” you said quietly, “I brought you something.” Handing Rei the bag, you smiled shyly at Dabi. Rei searched through the bag, pulling out some of what Dabi knew to be her favorite candy and a few scented candles.
“Todoroki told them not to give me any candles, even though my doctor says it’s fine,” Rei explained to her son. Dabi studied his mother’s bright smile and looked back at you. You were young, he noticed, probably a bit younger than him. You must have been a new nurse, leaving you saddled with the night shift. You didn’t seem to mind though, you shined with a contentment that Dabi knew only came when someone loved what they did.
Each time he visited his mother after that night, he got the same aura of serene fulfillment from you. You visited with his mother fairly often, so he started to see quite a bit of you, though you were always sure to give them time alone together. From what he saw, you were a perfect fit for a nurse, compassionate and understanding. He soon learned that you had moved from the country to work here, where you thought your healing quirk could be put to good use. Apparently, your quirk was somewhat similar to that of Recovery Girl’s. Only, instead of using a person’s own stamina to help them heal, you lent them yours. Dabi saw the aftereffects of it one night while you were sneaking him out of the building. You were leading him down the back stairwell when suddenly you stumbled, Dabi narrowly preventing you from falling.
“Are you okay, (Y/N)?” he asked.
“Yeah,” you said hazily. “I just had to help a patient earlier. Their stitches reopened, and there wasn’t a doctor around who was free at the moment. So I just went ahead and healed them myself.”
“Isn’t that dangerous?” You looked up at him in slight indignation.
“Do you honestly think I would ever do anything that could endanger one of my patients?”
“No, I mean, isn’t it dangerous for you to be using your quirk like that? You seem pretty exhausted.” You just shook your head tiredly.
“I’m fine. C’mon, we should get going.” As the two of you continued to journey down the stairs, Dabi watched you closely, ready to catch you again if he needed to. It seemed to him that you were working yourself far too hard, this wasn’t the first time he had found you worn out from overwork and from overusing your quirk. Dabi knew that you were a caring person, it was why he trusted you to take good care of his mother, but it looked like you were putting the needs of others before your own. As dedicated a nurse as you were, Dabi knew that if you kept this up, you’d break.
After that night, Dabi began to keep a closer eye on you. You had done so much for him and his mother, he owed you quite a bit. With that in mind, Dabi took to watching you when you weren’t at the hospital, following you around the city and observing you in from the windows of your small apartment. He needed to make sure that you were safe, after all. But in all honesty, Dabi knew that his motives went beyond that of simple obligation. The more he watched you, the more he realized that this world just didn’t deserve someone like you. You were far too soft and selfless; Dabi knew that there were only a few ways that this could end. Either someone would end up taking advantage of you and you would get hurt, or the world would wear you down until you were just like everyone else. Either of those possibilities were unthinkable to Dabi. Your sweet nature was something rare and precious, he couldn’t let the world take it away from him. He had learned to depend on your smiles and your kind words, he could no longer imagine living without them.
Taking all of this into account, Dabi came to a decision. You had been taking care of everyone else for far too long, it was time for someone to take care of you. Dabi could picture it: you living with him, staying at home while he took care of things. He could protect you, keep you safe, and in return your endearing smiles and gentle words would belong to him. The only problem was, Dabi knew that you would never agree to that. You simply loved your work too much. But, he realized, just because you wouldn’t accept didn’t mean it wasn’t still necessary. He was sure that once you had some time away from the rest of the world, you would come to understand. And if not, well, he still couldn’t let you go.

thoughts on a possible redemption arc for endeavor?
I mean to me the point of Endeavor’s character has always been a good hero can be a bad person, hence one why he’s a foil to Bakugou. Who was somebody who was a good hero and even had a spotless record and good behavior in class for the most part beause he wanted to get into UA without anything holding him back. However, at the same time he was the same kind of person who would constantly explode at Deku and be brutal towards him in order to work out his own insecurity, ie, bullying behaviors that could have grown into something much worse when he was older.
So, Endeavor suddenly resolving to become a good hero kind of already conflicts my reading of his character. However, there’s a second thing I have reservations about. Which is why it’s so interesting Todoroki’s other sibling got introduced this chapter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Endeavor wanting to be better to Shouto doesn’t really matter so much, because Shouto as always kind of been Endeavor’s main focus, much to Shouto’s detriment. Shouto’s older brother basically says that he doesn’t even remember Endeavor as a father, because Endeavor never really cared about his other three children in the first place because they weren’t going to carry on his legacy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So any ammends he makes with just Todoroki, and any ammends he makes just because he became the top hero now and he wants to do better, are kind of empty because Endeavor’s still operating out of that same framework of thinking that drove him to treat Shouto and his other siblings this way in the first place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean Endeavor even says as much. “My drive to be number one drove me to absolute despair and to do these terrible things...” so I’m not exactly sure how a neat resolution to that is “now that I’m number one I’m driven to be better.” Those two ideas contradict one another. Which might be the point.
Tumblr media
If the challenge to Endeavor is to hold everything in now, then I’d have to see exactly that to believe any of it. It’s convenient for him to declare that he’s going to face everything head on, and then just continue to punch bad guys as he always did, but that wasn’t the problem. As I said before Endeavor wronged the whole family, because you can’t just have three other kids and not care about them because they weren’t born the way you wanted them to be born. Which is why I’m starting to find the Dabi Todoroki theory even more and more likely, I mean since both of Todoroki’s older siblings are ice users can you imagine Endeavor reacint got his first born son being born only with his quirk? The quirk that couldn’t surpass all might?
Tumblr media
Dabi being the one to expose what Endeavor did to the whole world, and also to be the embodiment of what Endeavor did to his family leaving permanent scars works almost perfectly for that kind of arc. It also tests if Endeavor really is serious about holding it all, because it would mean holding it even his children who went far off the beaten path and he couldn’t stay a traditional hero who defeats baddies and still be able to rescue them.
At the same time in foiling endeavor with Hawks (who is now my fourth favorite character in the manga in three whole chapters, just, by the way) we see another set up of the classic divide the manga gives us. A hero who tries to save everybody, and a hero who just punches villains. Endeavor just engages the Noumo right away, while Hakws focuses entirely on evacuation and makes sure everybody in the building is safe first. Hawks is also, you know, a good person so write that down too.
Tumblr media
Like, the parallel between Endeavor’s mentorship of Todoroki isn’t All Might and Deku, it’s Shigaraki and All For One. Endeavor basically only cares about Todoroki as somebody to carry on his legacy, he basically only conceived of him for this purpose and this purpose alone. The same way that while All for One is kind to Shigaraki, and a good mentor, he only rescued the child in the first place to use him, and so no matter what their relationship will always be abusive because he doesn’t care about Shigaraki as a person, just an instrument of his legacy and a tool to destroy all might with.
Which like I said, the fact that All for One and Endeavor have that in common underlines the point that a good hero isn’t necessarily a good person which is the original point of his character. I don’t think being a good hero absolves him in any way of what he did, or resolving to be a better hero will somehow fix things.
It’d require those two things I listed above, Endeavor breaking out of his boxed perceptions of the world that what matters is hero rankings, and also Endeavor being exposed and actually having to deal with the consequences of what he did to other people, and having to reach out to his whole family that he destroyed not just Shouto in order to be even  somewhat believable.
But it definitely is a thing happening in the text whether I want it to or not, so really all I can do is keep reading and comment on it as it happens. It would take a lot of narrative consequences for it to believable though. This is just me talking from the perspective of “Will this work as an arc in a narrative” because, as I said my reading of Endeavor’s setup has always been he’s a bad person but a good hero, so it’s strange to suddenly change tracks like that and make him a good hero, rather than just make him an example of why the hero system is flawed in the first place.
So like TLDR: as I’ve said in many recent discussions with @bloodycarnations Dabi could make it work... I guess... but it’s still kind of strange to me why we even need to go on this path with Endeavor because the original purpose of his character was being an example of a bad person but a good hero. As a reader too I much more care about the feelings of  Endeavor’s victims, then Endeavor’s man pain over what he did to other people, or him finally feeling bad about it twenty years after the fact. So, if this was all working as set up to an arc where Dabi’s emotions get the main focus rather than Endeavor’s and Endeavor is confronted with the negative embodiment of what he did to his family than it could work...
