Boop.
Okay, I love Tumblr and I love boops so I decided to write something very silly since this is the first thing that hit my head when I woke up in the morning.
Summary: Ángel celebrates the Day of Laughter in Avalor and spreads the spirit of its main tradition all across the kingdom.
***
Today was the first day of April. Just a normal day, no special from others, as the majority of Avalorans would say.
But not Ángel.
As soon as the sun rays touched Ángel’s face through the window, his face was lit up with a mischievous smile. He threw away the blanket and tiptoed to Nube who was sleeping next to his desk. He snickered upon looking at his dog’s peaceful muzzle and reached out his hand to his nose, playfully tapping the tip.
“Boop!” Ángel exclaimed, and Nube shook his head, looking at his owner narrow-eyed. “Today is the day!”
Ángel hugged Nube and left the room, jumping on the stair railing and swiftly sliding down straight to the first floor as his cheerful shouts Woohoo! Today is the day! were spreading all across his house. He landed on the carpet in the living room and rushed to the kitchen where his father was already preparing breakfast.
“I see you’re in a good mood today, Ángel.”
Señor Suarez and Ángel embraced each other and booped each other’s noses at the same time.
“Boop!”
They both laughed, and Señor Suarez put the plates on the table to start eating.
“Today is the happiest day in the year, I’m so excited!” Ángel mumbled with his mouth full and spread his arms, nearly dropping a meatball from the fork. “I’m gonna boop everyone today, even the strangers, this is the day when everyone needs to smile!”
Ángel devoured his breakfast, got ready for school, and left the house. Señor Garcia waited for him to get him to school, and Ángel greeted him with a playful boop.
“Three boops so far!” Ángel laughed, and Señor Garcia looked at him with a gentle smile.

At school, as Ángel planned, he booped everyone he met on his way.
Younger students. Each of them giggled at this sign of affection and booped Ángel back, even if not everyone understood this tradition.
Older students. They were either irritated or delighted by Ángel and gladly booped him back.
His classmates and closest friends. Everyone. But he wasn’t done yet since he had even more ambitious plans today.
Gabriel was sitting at the desk, and as soon as Ángel noticed him, he knew who was going to be his next target.
“Boop!” Ángel laughed, and Gabriel frowned, looking at the bridge of his nose.
“I should have expected that,” Gabriel chuckled, and booped Ángel back. “I see you’re still following this tradition.”
“Of course I am! And today I’m gonna raise the bar.” Ángel showed the paper on which a few names were listed. “Today I’m gonna boop our teachers too!”
Gabriel looked through the list and pursed his lips. “Are you sure this is a good idea? I don’t think they’ll understand you.”
“There’s just one way to find out! Oh Señor Cortez!” Ángel approached the math teacher and dropped his notebook on the floor. “Oopsie daisy, I’m so clumsy!”
Ángel stared at confused Señor Cortez and awkwardly dropped and raised his eyes, waiting for his teacher to pick up the notebook. Upon hearing Gabriel’s wheezing laughter, ringing behind his back, he realized that his scheme had failed and picked up the notebook himself.
“Excuse me.”
Ángel came back to his desk and slapped Gabriel's shoulder to make him stop laughing, but his friend kept wheezing.
“What was that?” Gabriel choked, putting his hand over his chest, and wiped away the tear of joy.
Ángel wasn’t going to explain what his plan was since Gabriel wouldn't even listen to him. His answer would drown in his hysterical laughter.

After the class Ángel wasn’t going to give up on booping his teachers. He didn’t succeed first time, but he was sure he’d get lucky next time. He was moving along the corridor, turning his head from one side to another in search for his next “victim.” Finally he noticed Señor Álvarez and quickly ran up to him, dropping his notebook on the floor next to his teacher’s feet.
“Oh sorry, Señor Álvarez! I'm so clumsy.”
They both knelt down, and Señor Álvarez picked up the notebook. He was going to hand it to Ángel, but suddenly he felt how he tapped his nose.
“Boop!”
Ángel laughed and abruptly broke off when he noticed his teacher’s confused face.
Maybe Gabriel was right and it wasn’t a good idea after all...
Señor Álvarez chuckled and handed the notebook to him, booping him back.
“Boop. Happy Day of Laughter to you too, Ángel.” Señor Álvarez smiled and was going to leave but Ángel stopped him.
“Wait! Do you know this tradition too?”
Señor Álvarez nodded. “I remember when I was a kid, I always followed this tradition on the first day of April and booped my school friends. Not all of them were amused, but I'm sure they actually enjoyed it.”
Ángel laughed and looked at Señor Álvarez as his teacher wasn’t done with his story yet.
“My mother told me about this tradition. I studied in the boarding school so we never got a chance to follow it together. However, we decided to exchange letters on this day. There was nothing but the word ‘boop written on them, and every year it brought us so much joy.”
A soft smile shone on Ángel’s face, and slowly his smile turned into a sad one.
“It was my mom who told me about this tradition too. We loved celebrating the Day of Laughter together. She’s always been so funny.” Ángel’s voice quieted down, and after a while he continued, “And actually you gave me a great idea! Thank you, Señor Álvarez!”
Señor Álvarez smiled, and Ángel waved him goodbye. He quickly entered the classroom and took his seat to start writing a letter. He fiddled with a pen in his hand and wrote just one word boop. Ángel put the letter into an envelope and fidgeted on his chair as he was already excited for the moment he would take it to the post office.
Ángel smiled upon looking at the letter and whispered, tapping on the paper with his finger.
Boop. Happy Day of Laughter, Mamá.
