I’m thinking about Wicked tonight, specifically why Elphaba ends up with Fiyero instead of Glinda in the musical despite Elphaba and Glinda having the more well-rounded relationship.

You could chalk it up to the writers wanting a heteronormative ending (and I’m certain that’s part of it) or the fact that Elphaba and Fiyero had a love affair in the book. But I think there’s a bit more nuance to it.

The whole point of Glinda’s character is that she upholds the status quo of Oz. No matter how much she loves Elphaba or sympathizes with the plight of the Animals, she will always align herself with the current system and those in power. And as long as that remains the case, a relationship between her and Elphaba is futile because Elphaba will not give up her cause.

Elphaba and Glinda represent to different ends of a spectrum. Elphaba resists the oppressive forces in Oz, while Glinda upholds them. But Fiyero is somewhere in the middle. He starts out privileged and carefree like Glinda, but quickly turns to Elphaba’s side. He does become Captain of the Guard, but only to find Elphaba and help her evade arrest.

And therein lies the difference between Glinda and Fiyero as love interests to Elphaba. Glinda would never sacrifice her title as “the Good Witch” and all her power granted from the Wizard, even if it meant helping Elphaba. Fiyero, on the other hand, does give up his privilege, his title, and even his human form for Elphaba. Glinda clings to what the status quo gives her, while Fiyero ultimately rejects it.

Yes, the writing around Elphaba and Fiyero’s romance is a bit rushed and doesn’t have the same gradual development that Elphaba and Glinda have. And yes, I have no doubt heteronormativity played a role in giving Elphaba a male love interest in the end. But I see a lot of people write off Fiyero and his relationship with Elphaba and I just don’t agree.

Why does Elphaba end up with Fiyero instead of Glinda? Because Fiyero makes the sacrifices that Glinda wasn’t willing to.

My addition to nandermo queerbait debate; aka why does it feel like queerbaiting

I feel like a lot of arguing could be cut down here if we agreed on what a definition of queerbait is. Cause you see, by the official definition it's about hinting at character's sexualities being anything but straight. At this light wwdits does not queerbait cause everybody's queer. Hence nandermo can be only shipbaiting.

However I feel like it's not a definition that is commonly used by the public. And I think we should consider what would count as one. I must admit, to me, until recently when I've done my proper research digging, it seemed it goes as something of the following:

1. When media producers set up a dynamic in which they hint at romantic/erotic/really any not platonic development between same sex characters (different but gender queer would count too if mainstream media bothered with such representation) without any wish to ever actually follow through with it, using it as a marketing tool instead, to attract larger, maybe more committed audience, mostly thanks to queer community.

They basically set up plotlines mirroring those in romances and follow them for some time. Very often they also do step 2

2. After said media gains a large following of people invested in queer romance the romantic development of characters mostly dies down, writing opting out for status quo platonic dynamic, systematically interrupted with emotionally loaded ,,canon evidence" ambiguous, grand gesture scenes instead, to keep the audience believing in chances of non-platonic development till the end.

And my point with formulating that unofficial amateur definition is:

Even though we weren't queerbaited this time, at least by official definition, because of the ,,they are canonically queer" difference, as the audience of wwdits we went through the exact same process we did during any queerbaiting in history. Supernatural did that, Sherlock did that and so on. Plus I believe most of supernatural fans really hoped for canon destiel more than castiel confirmed pansexual, so the relationship aspect is what gets attributed to queerbaiting more.

Queer characters aren't exactly uncommon in the cinema, especially comedy, so much as they commonly aren't treated seriously, with development, arcs and yeah romances of their own. (Although we could use some quantity too in my humble opinion)

In the end, it doesn't matter if we were queerbaited or just shipbaited, cause no matter how we call it the effect stays the same. As always we hoped for them to be together. As many times before, we thought so based on purposeful writing decisions made to set up this effect, yet get gashlited that we created it in our silly homo minds which can not perceive friendship.

btw, you can disagree with me 100% on that, by all means have a different opinion, but please if you wish to tell me about it, stay polite while doing so.

I’m salty about Heimerdinger

As SOON as the machine is ready— it turns out that not everything is plugged in and Heimerdinger has to manually plug the cords to get Ekko back to his world. Only for him to die in an act of self-sacrifice?

You’re telling me, the yordle scientist— with hundreds of years of experience with lab safety and constantly talks about thorough preparation in experiments— forgot to connect two cables before the hextech machine was running? It doesn’t add up to me.

There was absolutely no need for Heimerdinger to be so urgent about leaving only to NOT have the machine ready before activating it.

It read more as though Heimerdinger would help Ekko get back, but he’d be left to fix the chaos because the yordle was most definitely not joining him. Because Heimerdinger has lived through many apocalypses in his years and doesn’t want to live through another one. He didn’t want to go back, face the music and address the mess in their original universe.

Heimerdinger is a coward, killing himself through an unnecessary self-sacrifice to avoid addressing rising conflicts in his original universe

It just occurred to me that fanfiction and fanart can basically be described as such:

A certain person at the end of a story/book/movie/whatever said "Yeah, no, I simply don't vibe with that" so they created an entire alternate universe inside their head, changing canon events at will, killing characters, making others come back from the dead or fall in love with their sworn enemy, all of this without batting an eye and giving zero fucks. They then proceeded to share it to thousands of strangers on the Internet for FREE, and eventually those strangers joined in on the fun, creating a community that celebrates important characters birthdays and such that communicates in a language only people in a fandom can understand.

Like, if I went to my mom and suddenly said: "I just read a beautifully written, 100k words fanfiction, enemies to lovers, mutual pining and fluff fanfiction, had no beta tho" she wouldn't understand a word.

We all probably sound crazy to the rest of the world.

So, I watched AVPM for the first time yesterday. It was great, I love it and I have been listening to Granger Danger without break.

This is probably old news because the musical is old and StarKid has a looooot of fans, but I need to talk about this or I'll explode (yes musical nerd here without any musical-fan friends ahhhhh), so here's something I noticed (or maybe I'm just tone deaf):

When Ron and Draco sing "falling in love" together, they sing it differently. Draco starts high (on the fal-) and goes down (on the -ling) and stays there, while Ron starts low and goes high.

And I've been singing this part in the shower to get it right (yes I am that kind of person, judge me /j) and it makes Draco sound really sad and desperate, while Ron sounds happy and hopeful (istg he sounds like someone who's just about to go on an adventure).

Ron, who we know gets the girl, is happy and excited about realizing he loves Hermionie. Meanwhile Draco is sad about it, because he (and we) knows she won't like him back and in general it wouldn't ever work cuz of his family. Still, he loves her and wants to be with her, but he knows it'll never happen.

And I think the fact that this is captured in the slight tone shift/difference they have in the final part is just so cool and amazing and incredible and it's like a birthday cake for my ears

yes ik the brothers are all the same age, but there was this obvious connection between these two turtles that made them the "token twins"

his twin is gonna be an oc of mine that i have yet to make (im still picking names) but theyre suddenly scared that theyre being kicked to the curb bc of leo's new leadership

theyve always been side by side and now they feel less than, despite leo's reassurances that they arent

it's hard trying to live up to your twin's name. it's hard trying to catch up when suddenly he's flying ahead

so they bury themselves in their studies.

they become the team medic, constantly locked away in donnie's lab whether or not he's there to look over turtle anatomy or practice surgical procedures that even their purple banded brother is too terrified of risking

their twin almost falls behind

until he gets badly hurt and their twin is at their side in an instant. in his haze of pain, he asks why. what happened to them? where did they go? he misses his twin.

and then they reply, "if i can't be there protect you, then i'll be here to save you."

leo's twin knew they would never catch up to the powerful ninja leo was becoming. theyre good, yes, but they will never be as good as him again.

the least they could do is make sure neither leo or any of their brothers die out on the battlefield.

After I walked out of the clinic where I said my last goodbye to Nacho, I saw a rainbow. He always was the adventurous kind of cat, so I'm sure he is having a fun time exploring whatever is out there.

I miss you, buddy. The sun has always suited you better anyway.

I've been playing alot of Elden Ring and what I've realized is that Elden Ring is basically if everything only got worse at the end of the first age in the Silmarillion.

Had to mention this. The difference between Danny Webber as Ash and Jack Black as Claptrap is simple.

Danny actually fucking tried. He put on a damn good impression of Bruce, gave Ash his spunk, and even managed to make a good alt. voice for Ash.

Jack Black didn't try. He just did his voice. People talk about how good he was in the mario movie, but was he really?? Chris Pratt and Charlie Day worked well as the bros because even if they didn't have their accents they still had the brotherly vibe. Jack just went on the movie, sung a song about wanting to marry Peach, that's it. I don't hate Peaches. But let's be real—Jack isn't doing it for the art.
