I just want anyone to tell me what actors, musicians, and artists could do to stop the US government from funding Israel
some of these people infamously don’t understand vaccines—and I’m pretty sure for that reason people collectively decided they should keep their beliefs and politics to themselves
And we know how a lot of Congress (you know, Republicans) feel about unorganized actions—they don’t respect them and they view them as performative. So this is not going to influence them at all.
Has anyone considered pressuring those present into things they could actually do?
What about pushing them to sponsor Palestinian artists and activists? How about insisting that the charity event that funds the textile section of the Metropolitan Museum of Art goes to an exhibition of Palestinian textiles? How about pushing all museums to have special exhibits on Palestine and Israel to push for a ceasefire? What about pressuring them to pressure the US government to allow Palestinian artists and their families to flee to the US? This would increase pressure to speed up the proposed refugee program as well.
Additionally, organized action would help pro-Palestinian and pro-ceasefire legislatures since it would give them more leverage.
And these are just off the top of my head.
I’m sure the people in charge of these protests, who I am sure are real organizers and strategists, could come up with even better ideas! Imagine what you could do if you organized solidarity protests with the Israeli protesters! I would love to support productive ideas that don’t devolve into hate speech! Let me know when that happens!
