I’ve got some particularly exciting news, so tune in for the following announcement:

Due to the recent arrival of a DAWN BRINGER in our owlery, I’m pleased to say that I can set a date for our first application reviewal!

APPLICATION REVIEWAL DAY is WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12TH. The submit box will close at 3pm edt/8pm bst on that day and acceptances will posted on the main at 5pm edt/10pm bst. Between those two timestamps, I’ll be sending out messages to every applicant, notifying them of the results.

A NOTE TO ALL POTENTIAL APPLICANTS AND THOSE WHO HAVE RESERVES: All pre-existing reserves will end at the time of the submit box’s closing. No further reserves will be accepted at this time, as there are a final 48 HOURS between this notice and application reviewal! Due to the unforeseen amount of applications submitted via google docs or and/or in visual formats, I have made the decision not to post the actual applications themselves along with acceptances. Accepted players may share as much or as little of their applications on their character blogs, as per their own decisions. As soon as players have sent their character blogs in to the main, they will receive an invite to the ooc discord, and may begin plotting, memeing, and settling in! I’m here to make some bite-sized official updates –– don’t worry, this will be short and sweet.

TO ALL OF THE CURRENT & FUTURE APPLICANTS: The application form has been updated with a new clause added into the connections section. Please take note and adjust accordingly. If necessary, you may re-submit any portion of an already submitted application to reflect the changes made.

TO ALL THE LOVELY, WONDERFUL PLAYERS:

Due to the increasing trend of setting event interactions on a timeline of the day on which the current event takes place, please make sure to keep the last 30 minutes (11:30 until midnight ) of AUGUST 1ST, 1950 open and clear of all activity.

To all those setting starters at the Potter manor: the Potter manor, the gardens, and the rest of the property are all heavily warded. Please make sure the status of your threads set at TIMESTAMP 001: MEMENTO MORI reflects that. Additionally - all magic cast within these wards, save for the simplest of charms, can and will backfire terribly on the caster due to the heavy chokehold of the protective wards.

Good afternoon friends !  This is a quick notice from the Burial Society Staff to let our members and potential applicants know that we have updated our HANDBOOK. The change, which you can find reflected on the page, is just to add a bit of clarity regarding activity checks. The addition reads as follows:

Activity checks will look specifically at posts that further interaction within the group. For this reason, the only posts that count towards activity are starters or thread responses.

Additionally, the handbook now reflects our move from seven to nine days of inactivity. If you have any questions, please let us know !

HELLO TO ALL MY FAVORITE WRITERS AND LURKERS ––– it’s ADMIN PIXIE, your admin and fantasy accountant ! 

Today I don’t have that much to say, other than to notify you all about a few changes that have been implemented here at the group. 

I have recently discovered some unsettling information regarding Indya Moore and no longer feel comfortable using them as a faceclaim. They have been added to the banned fc list. Due to my inability to find an alternative faceclaim that fit Xiomara’s gender and ethnicity, I have instead written an entirely new character with the Burke surname. It was important to me to keep a member of the Burke family in the group, due to that family’s connections with Tom Riddle and potential influence on the overarching plot. I want to stress that these characters are entirely different in every way other than the surname, and neither one is interchangeable with the other. The new character, Fidelia Burke, will be posted soon. 

I have also recently learned that sometimes the phrase/terminology ‘cis male/cis female’ is used as a dogwhistle for TERFs. Needless to say, absolutely no part of TERF or otherwise transphobic ideological material will be tolerated in this group, whether ic or ooc. I have changed all the necessary information on the blog and the taken character skeletons to use the terms man/woman instead of male/female, and I encourage all future and potential applicants to do the same in their applications. I would like to sincerely apologize for my previous ignorance on this matter.

GOOD AFTERNOON TO ALL PLAYERS, APPLICANTS, AAAND LURKERS –– it’s ADMIN PIXIE, and I have so much to say. Grab a snack and some water, this is gonna get lengthy. 

First things first, the main has been UPDATED – this means that with a few pending exceptions, all character information is up to date! 

TODAY is FRIDAY, and that means it’s an APPLICATION REVIEWAL DAY! The submit will remain open to receive applications until 4PM EDT/9PM BST. All applicants will receive their results privately before any acceptances are posted on the main at 5PM EDT/10PM BST. To anyone who cannot make the deadline – we are now operating on a bi-weekly reviewal basis! The next application reviewal will take place on TUESDAY, at the same times.

TOMORROW, at 12PM EDT/5PM GMT our first event will begin, and we will be officially open for interactions! More information will follow in the official event post, which will be published at that time.             ––– NOW, SOME NOTES FOR OUR PLAYERS         ––  Any characters from our first round of application reviewal who have not sent in their blogs by TODAY at 5PM EDT/10PM BST will be re-opened for applications!

       ––  The checklist has been updated! Please re-read it, and update yourselves accordingly! 

       ––  Current players may apply for a second character – provided they have the GOLD to do so – in time for TUESDAY’S application reviewal. This will be the one and only time a player may be eligible for an additional character without seven full days of consistent activity on their existing character(s) under their belts.         ––  Speaking of GOLD –– You all know by now about the trial integration of GRINGOTT’S BANK. The entire group will be using this points system on a trial basis until SATURDAY, AUGUST 21st, upon which time players will be voting by anonymous poll to canonize the bank or leave it behind. As we are trialing this system in order to learn what works and what needs to be adjusted, players are welcome and encouraged to take full advantage of any loopholes or lax guidelines they may find in the current system ––– so that it can be known what must be adjusted and/or edited if the system becomes a permanent feature of the group.

Hey guys, gals, and wixen pals –– it’s ADMIN PIXIE! 

It’s been an exciting day, and I can’t wait to continue – we’re now waiting for the rest of our players to send in their blogs and join the ooc discord, but thankfully the atmosphere of the first task is relaxed enough that as long as all blogs are sent in on time, there’s no particular rush! It’s quite late for me, unfortunately, so I’ll be heading off to bed and will continue the necessary updates and behind-the-scenes work tomorrow! GREETINGS AND GOOD AFTERNOON !   We hope you’re all having a lovely day, and we’re here to share a little bit of information with you!

Based on the poll we conducted in our server, we will be holding our very first live writing event at 2PM EDT / 7PM BST on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6TH. Further details about this event will be posted in the coming days, but please make sure to set aside some time to write! 

We tried to select a time that as many of our members could be around as possible, however we realize that there are one or two individuals who stated that they will not be able to make this time. If you were one of those people, don’t fret! The admins have an alternative event in mind for you and we will work out when that can be done on an individual level. If you stated that you could make this time in the poll, but something has come up, please let the admins know as soon as possible so we can include you in this alternative event.

Given that this live event will be the final part of our current event, we will be extending the evening at the Norris household to last, in real time, until the live event has begun. You may continue threads that are part of this event until that time, and you may now post new threads up until OCTOBER 3RD. However, please remember that the in game time frame will remain as originally planned, between 7PM AND 11:59PM on AUGUST 16TH, 1950.

Additionally, we want to make a quick apology. The admin team was somewhat busy yesterday and thus was not able to conduct our usually timed APPLICATION REVIEWAL & BANK TRANSACTIONS, but we will be righting that today! APPLICATION REVIEWAL will take place at 6PM EDT / 11 PM BST and BANK TRANSACTIONS can be submitted up until 8PM EDT / 1 AM BST.  

Finally, we are very thrilled to announce that on OCTOBER 3RD, Burial Society RPG will be going through some exciting changes, including the addition of 13 NEW CHARACTERS to our lineup.

FURTHER DETAILS ON OUR UPCOMING LIVE EVENT

The guests of the Norris’ dinner party dined in the absence of their hosts from the moment their appetizers appeared near their place settings until the very last morsel of the final course was spirited away by house elf magic. Not fifteen minutes after a pair of house elves served the guests with dainty plates topped high with tiny apple pies and even tinier cups of steaming coffee did one Mr. Fleamont Potter scrape back his chair from his seat at the table with a discordant screech and a loud and firm request for the rest of the guests to join him in the lounge. Without a single glance behind his shoulder and certainly without taking a single sip or bite of his dessert, he turned on his heel and left the dining room.

Those who humored his sudden request in the absence of a host or hostess to entertain them would have found the large, round table of the lounge cleared of all adornment save for a select few candles, and the chairs moved from their previous positions to surround the edge in a silent invitation for sitting.

Without a doubt, there was something strange about the entire evening, but Fleamont was determined to get to the bottom of at least one mystery, or so he claimed when he explained his plan of action to the guests that joined him around the lounge table: There was to be a SEANCE held to determine once and for all whether their invitations came from an eccentric dramatist or a dangerous fraud responsible for the wizard’s disappearance and any other sinister happenstance that may have befallen him. If Mr. Norris was truly gone from this world, Fleamont reasoned, what better place to try and contact him than from the heart of his own household?

USING CHARACTER BOTS

In order to help keep this event organized, we’ll be introducing TUPPERBOX to our discord server. This is a discord bot that will allow us to send messages as our characters! We’ll be happy to help everyone get set up in the server, but we thought we could go over the basics here to get everyone started.

The first command you’ll need to use is tul!register which should be formatted as the following: 

tul!register “full name” name:text 

For example, Orion Black would be registered by using the following command: 

tul!register “orion black” orion:text

Once this is done, messages can be sent from Orion Black but beginning them with orion: and then typing your message.

Next comes the fun part! Setting an icon to go along with the profile you’ve just registered. Find an image you’d like to use. Then you can use the tul!avatar command to set this as your profile image. In a message that contained the image you want to use sent the following:

tul!avatar “name”

Alternatively, if you have a url of an image you’d like to use (rather than a saved image), you can use the following command:

tul!avatar “name” url

Following with our previous example, these would look like this:

tul!avatar “orion black”

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR LIVE WRITING EVENTS

If you have not done a live writing event before, or even if you have, we wanted to include some details of both our expectations of how this event will run and some tips and tricks for you to get the best experience out of it!

Our expectation is that this event will last for about three hours. Because of this we encourage our players to get comfy beforehand! Get yourself a snack, a cup of tea, or whatever you’d like to have with you!

The writing for this event is going to feel a little different than writing on the dash, mostly due to length. Given the time limit and the number of players, we encourage that replies stay limited to just a few sentences. 

We will set an order for players to reply based on who is present. There may be changes to this order during the live event but staff members will be sure to keep everyone updated to what those changes are.

Keep in touch with the staff members! If you have to step away for any reason that is perfectly fine, but please let us know so we can keep the event moving in a timely fashion.

Most, if not all of what I have to say here is old news to you all, as long as you’ve been keeping up with the discord –– but it’s always nice to make things main blog official, so here we go:

By popular vote, MEME DAYS will now take place on SATURDAYS. You may reblog and send memes on these days only, but you have until the end of each SUNDAY to finish answering whatever you’ve got in your inbox.

Likewise, due to a nearly unanimous vote, the event will be EXTENDED –– don’t worry if you’re not close to the end of your threads or if you haven’t gotten to ask Cecil any questions, yet, because the event will now end on SATURDAY, AUGUST 29TH ,2020. 

It’s been over an entire week since the BURIAL BANK system was introduced –– and that means the trial period is over. The bank blog’s submit has been closed, and an anonymous survey has been posted in the discord’s #announcements channel. Please answer the survey even if you didn’t get a chance to become fully acquainted with the bank; it only takes 2 minutes at most, and it’s completely anonymous!

First things first –– the submit box is officially OPEN and starting right this very second, BURIAL SOCIETY will also be open to receive any and all applications! Expect another post in the next few days discussing an official application review date!

A sample application has been queued and will be posted a little later today. Also in the queue to be posted sometime after that is a small surprise as a thank you to everyone who’s showed interest in the group, all you lovely anons, those who are following the main, and those who have supported this group behind the scenes. I’ve made a few quality of life updates on the main, including fixing a few link errors on the character masterlist, adding in more links to the navigation page, and a few small edits here and there to various little features on the main blog that you may not notice a difference in. 

Furthermore, I’ve gone and UPDATED the RULES. For those who have already started their applications, please be aware of this and give the page another read. It’s mostly a few changes here and there for clarity, but there are also a few rules and specifications that I added in that weren’t present before. Most of it is, in my opinion, just common sense, but I decided to make these amendments anyway just in case. Finally, I have added a list of banned faceclaims, which you can find here. As I have said before in a few replies to messages here on the main and as is now stated in the running ticker at the top of the desktop version of this blog as well as in the daily prophet section of the sidebar, the SUBMIT BOX will officially open for applications on THURSDAY, JULY 31ST, as soon as the last character has been posted! HELLO, AND WELCOME BACK TO ANOTHER ADMIN POST  –––  ‘Tis I, ADMIN PIXIE ! No longer one-of-a-kind, and happy about it !

There are a few things to get through, so buckle up and grab a snack!

First and foremost, I would like to formally & enthusiastically welcome our two newest members of BURIAL SOCIETY STAFF aboard –– Hannah and Rion have graciously offered their free time and energy to help steer the ship, so to speak, and are already doing an absolutely wonderful job. Welcome, welcome, and thank you so much to ADMIN GRINDYLOW and ADMIN JARVEY ! Expect to see a lot more of them around !

As you all know, a google form was sent to the discord and you were all asked to fill it out in your free time to inform the staff of where you’re at in regards to possible structural changes to the group and the way things are run here. The results, decided by popular vote and further discussed by staff, are as such:

––  As it was a close call, the group will remain open to new players for now, and we will continue operating the way we have been up to this point. We may reassess privatizing the group again at a later date.

––  A new batch of characters will be introduced sooner rather than later, and as always, players may sponsor the creation of new characters via the bank at any time. 

––  The activity limit will be expanded –– players will now receive activity check warnings after NINE days of inactivity.

The next event will be take place soon, starting on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19TH at 12PM EDT/5PM BST. Please try to wrap up as many threads or interactions as you can before this date, as all non-event interactions must at least be paused until after the event ends.
