How Many Detectives Are Needed To Sleep A Baby? || Jay Halstead x reader!
Cute and fluffy Jay, wife and baby + babysitter detectives
*re-posting this because I'm stupid and accidentaly delated my blog 🫠
Summary: Intelligence unit takes care of Jay's newborn baby while he and his wife are in court. Turns out it is the most difficult case they have worked on.
-"You can't go in there". Platt muttered in a scolding tone to Adam, who wanted to go into the coffee room.
-"Why not?" He asked strangely.
-"Shhhhhh". Kim gave him a punch on his arm. -"Keep it quiet, you're gonna wake her up".
-"Ok, alright". Ruzek kept his voice low. -"What the hell is going on, girls?"
-"Halstead's baby is sleeping in there. Don't you dare to interrupt her sweet dreams, bro". Kevin said from his desk.
-"Look at her. You can see her smile even from here". Hailey said, peeking through the window.
Trudy and Kim followed her.
-"She's so lucky she didn't get her father's mad face". The Sergeant enquired.
-"What do you think she's dreaming about? She looks so peaceful".
-"What's going on? Where's Jay? Where's her mom? What is she doing here all alone?" Adam was losing it, increasing his voice volume once more.
-"She's not alone. We're taking care of her!". Hailey frowned.
-"Adam, please". Voigh silently got out of his office and rushed towards him whispering. -"Would you keep it down? I can hear your voice even with my door closed. Let the baby rest, she's only weeks old and already has seen too much".
The detective opened his arms in a defeated gesture. He had just arrived and didn't understand anything.
-"Y/N is testifying right now, we couldn't avoid it. She and her colleagues published the investigation under their names, so...I couldn't stop it. Jay is by her side. The baby is here for protection".
-"She really is a hell of a journalist". Upton mentioned with admiration.
-"And a very brave woman. We owe her a lot in this case". Hank stated.
-"You know? You would have known about this if you had arrived in time to work". Burgess teases Adam.
-"Is there any news about the trial?" Platt wanted to know, worried about you.
-"Not yet, but Jay said he'll be in touch". The boss stated. -"You know these trials take time".
They weren't conscious about it, but the whole Intelligence squad looked hilarious talking with whispers and walking in tiptoes as they went back to their workplaces.
Time passed and the girl was still sleeping safe and sound, until Adam decided to stand up to stretch a bit and stumbled with some cables on the floor. Naturally, the clatter woke up the little baby.
-"It had to be you, right?" Kim mocked her husband as she helped him stand up.
Hailey and Kevin ran to the coffee room as if they were running a race. It was him who got there first and held the baby girl.
-"There, there. Uncle Kev is right here". He tried to reassure her. -"I had siblings and took care of them when they were babies. I can manage another one".
But after a few minutes, she was still uncontrollable.
-"Ok, it's my turn". Burgess got into the game and took the baby off his partner's arms. -"I'm the only mom here, the only one who has a real daughter. I know how to do it".
-"What are you talking about?" Trudy Platt laughed. -"Makayla was already a grown up when you adopted her!" And she grabbed the baby to accommodate her in her chest. But the crying did not stop.
-"Oh, no. What are they doing to you, sweetie?" Upton grabbed her and laid her in her arms. -"I am her godmother, she knows me better".
The baby Halstead slowed down her crying, but she was still restless.
-"Well, how many detectives do you need to sleep a baby, hum? You don't know anything". Hank Voight gasped. -"Give her to me, I'll show you all". But as soon as she was in the arms of the boss, her crying increased. -"Oh. I've lost touch!"
Jay and Y/N were already at the bullpen, waiting in the stairs. They got in time to witness the fluffy scene.
-"Hey, guys? She's not a rag doll, you know?" Jay said laughing at the scene and his friends turned around with surprise. -"She just needs her daddy's arms''. He took his daughter to stroke her and almost immediately she calmed down.
-"That's not fair". Platt crossed her arms.
-"We brought you coffee". You smiled, leaving the box you were carrying on one of the desks. -"There's not enough caffeine when you take care of a newborn. There's one for each of you, just as each of you like it. Look for your name in the tags".
-"Geez, thanks!" Adam said gladly and balanced the table. -"I was denied entrance to the coffee room the whole morning".
-"I'm sorry". You turned red.
-"Don't listen to him". A chorus of detectives said.
-"She's really calm, it was no problem". Kevin asserted and everyone else agreed.
You approached your husband and as soon as you were in your daughter's sight, the baby started to smile and giggle, throwing little kicks into the air.
-"What? Why are you laughing so much, baby?" You raised your hands and freed Jay's arms. -"Come with mommy, sweetie".
Everyone stared at the scene with tenderness, especially Kim, whose eyes started watering.
-"You wanna hold her?"
She just nodded and took the opportunity.
-"How was the trial? Are you alright?" Platt inquiered.
-"Yeah, I mean it was really scary, but I think it went fine". Y/N hands started to shake a little bit, but she was fast enough to hide them in her pockets. Nobody noticed, except for Jay.
-"She did a great job". He hugged you by the waist, trying to secretly ease you.
-"I have no doubt about it, she already showed us how much of a badass she is". Hank smirked.
-"I will just be more comfortable if you stay in here at least until the Jury deliberates, or as soon as I can go home with you. It's just a precaution, I'm not being paranoid or something".
-"Yes, I agree". Voight followed the idea.
-"Sure. Whatever you think is better".
The baby yawned and stretched herself so adorably, that she caught everyone's attention again.
-"I should put her down to sleep".
-"Alright. Take my seat, Y/N. We don't know how much we're staying here". Jay pointed out.
-"C'me on, Kim. Give the baby back to her mommy".
-"If you need help with the baby or you get bored of these people around, I'll be downstairs". The desk Sergeant winked at you and you smiled back at her back.
-"She won't be bored. She has me here". Hailey pulled a face.
-"I'll take provisions just in case the little one takes the coffee room again". Ruzek rushed to the kitchen.
Everyone else rolled their eyes in a funny way.

Cuddling
Tommy shelby x wife!reader.
A continuation to Happy wife, Happy life
For context, reader is Irish and pro-irish freedom, so her criticism of grace for being a pro-english irishwoman (born from british citizens sent to colonize ireland) is perfectly valid
Tommy gets comfortable with you, cuddling with you after a long day trying to outwit the pigs and Kimber.
Once he is satisfied with every little thing that makes for great sleep in your arms, you bring up that thing from days ago when he came so drunk he forgot you were his wife.
“So the new barmaid, huh?” you continue to hold him even as he stills in panic.
“Who told you?” He asks thinking Polly or Lizzie had run to your with the gossip of the blonde twat trying to seduce your husband.
“You did, sweetie.” You answer. “You thought I was her and like the good boy you are, you rejected her saying you had a wife.”
Grace Burgess wasn’t deterred by that, but then again her folks do that. Else her English family wouldn’t be in Ireland killing those who want their country back.
If she hadn’t been so stupid as to show up with her real name, you wouldn’t have discovered the truth so easily.
One letter home and now you knew what sort of snake had invaded your garden.
“Is that why you’ve been asking around about her to your family back home?” he connects the dots like the brilliant man he is and sound impressed by how good your instincts still are.
“Had a hunch, especially after the IRA man was found dead by her block and the coppers covered it up.” You answer and wait for him to come to the right conclusion.
The way men think with their cocks never stopped annoying her, especially with how idiotic all were in accepting the broad into their lives because she was pretty and boring. Had Tommy not married a woman with a good head on her shoulders he’d been taken for a ride.
“Campbell sent her then. Assumed he’d be sending a man to do it. Suppose Arthur will have to fire her tomorrow and we’ll have to make sure she never comes back.” Even like this his mind is racing to think up a good strategy.
“You can leave that to me, sweetheart.” You say with a wicked smile.
Grace will wish you’d killed her when you’re done with her.

I gotcha Partner- Jay Halstead
Summary: After chasing down a suspect, you have a bad asthma attack.
Warnings: none that I know of.
Authors note: Jay’s installment in the platonic asthma fics. ❤️ Enjoy!
—————————
You have been Jay Halstead’s partner since Erin Lindsey left 2 years ago. You had been friend prior to this partnership, having met at Molly’s as well, so the partnership was easy to fall into. You knew each others quirks well, but you also knew each other’s medical history very well given all the near deaths you two have experienced since being partners. You have never experienced more near death experience on the job before working with Jay Halstead.
Today, you and Jay, along with the rest of the intelligence unit, are sitting on a suspect’s house. This individual has been indicted for multiple counts of aggravated assault and battery, leading the unit to believe that he is involved in a string of assaults at a few night clubs he has been known to frequent. He’s smarter than most criminals. He makes sure not to hit the same club multiple times, but to randomly jump around to throw off any suspicion.
You and Jay were sat in his truck, idly chatting about Matt’s move into the apartment with you and Kelly, when the suspect pulled into his driveway. You both straightened up as Voight began to speak.
“Suspect has landed. Suspect has landed. Use caution. Don’t spook him.” Voight instructed through our radio.
Jay grabbed our tac gear from the backseat and handed me my own. We suited up before slowly pulling the truck to block the end of the driveway. Burgess and Adam came up one side while Voight and Atwater came up the other. You noticed blood on his door handle and quickly jumped out of the truck and rounded it to grab the guy.
“Chicago PD!” You yelled, announcing yourself before moving to grab the suspect. Unfortunately, he was quick to react and shoved you into Kim before running down the small alley way next to his house. “Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit!” You yelled, quickly standing to your feet to pursue. You were the smallest and the fastest, next to Kevin.
You heard Jay flip the sirens and say he was going to cut him off. Kevin was on your heels, cursing about how the perps always run but they can’t run from you all. You shook your head, pushing through the burning in your chest. You were still recovering from your attack a few days prior, so you definitely weren’t in top shape.
You saw the end of alley way, thanking God that this run was coming to an end. Just as the suspect reached the end of the alley, Jay pulled the truck to block it and held the suspect at gun point through the window.
“Put your hands up.” Jay growled, seeing the blood on the suspect’s shirt and knuckles.
You stopped running, coming to a halt at the back of the truck with your hands on your knees. You were having trouble catching your breath as an audible wheeze left your body. You dizzily grabbed the bumper as you sunk to the ground. Jay saw you and quickly jumped out of the truck as Kevin cuffed the perp.
“Y/n?!” Jay yelled, crouching down in front of you. “Jesus. Your blue.” Jay muttered, taking your face in his hands for a second. You were ice cold. “It’s okay. I gotcha partner. Up we go.” Jay muttered, pulling you into his arms and rounding the truck.
“She okay?” Voight asked, coming to open the door for Jay.
“She will be. She’s having an asthma attack.” Jay said over your wheezes. He dug around in the glove box until he unearthed your inhaler. “Alright sweetie. Let’s do this.” Jay shook the inhaler before helping you squeeze the trigger as you attempted to breathe.
“Here. I got a pulse ox from the first aid kit.” Kim said, jogging back from her and Adam’s car. She handed the device to Jay before moving back to give you and Jay some room.
They all waiting on baited breath as the pulse ox read. High heart rate and oxygen level fluctuating between 83-85. Their eyes grew wide at the reading, concerned given that your inhaler should have opened you up by now.
“I’m taking her to med.” Jay said, buckling you in and shutting the door.
“I will give you an escort.” Voight said, quickly running to his SUV that Kevin pulled around after placing the suspect in the back of a patrol car.
“5021 George to Med” Jay said into his radio, lights and sirens blaring as he drove.
“Go ahead for Med.” April said.
“April. Y/n is having a bad asthma attack. Cyanotic, high pulse, O2 is low to mid 80s. Rescue inhaler administered and not helping. ETA 5 minutes. ” Jay reported, glancing over at you as you shook. “Shhh. I gotcha partner. I’m gonna get you help.”
“We will be waiting at the door. Med out.” April said.
Jay put his radio back on the dash before reaching out to take one of your shaking hands in his own. “Almost there. You are doing great.” Jay encouraged, trying to hide his worry.

To the folks who play My Time at Sandrock... has anyone actually bothered to, you know, listen in on Burgess' 'morning speech' at the Blue Moon Stage?
Because, uh, I just so happened to be close enough by to witness the speech bubbles. Um.. Burgess, sweetie?
There are people in that crowd that I hang out with waaay more often than I do you. Like, I know we're BFF's and all that, but please. I'm a Builder. You don't need to sing my virtues when all I'm doing is my literal job.

Tf2 x rotg au when king
Askjdshjlfsaf I wasn't gonna do it bc I know I can't make decisions but f u ck
((only doing movie verse bc I haven't reread the books in over a year but I've watched the movie multiple times in the last few days lol))
Heavy 100% is Nick. Sorry I know it's cliché to pick him bc they're both Russian but I feel like their characterizations would also fit okay 🥺 like I said in the tags of my other post they're both deadly but sweeties + smart as fuck.
With that being said Engie is also a top contender for Nick for the fact that Nick builds all of his (*cough* as in designs them... shout out to Phil and the yetis 😅) toys but also uses is creations to help with his fights (meaning: the snow globes ≈ teleporters?). He's also very prideful of his work much like Nick, and seems to be closer to MiM similar to how the Conaghers are close to,,, well Mann Co. in general I feel.
Pyro would be Sandy. Was thinking of making them Tooth (bc,,, fairy) but Tooth is a little too business imo for Pyro. Sandy though? They both got that silent whimsicalness about them between pyroland and the dream sand.
Spy could also fit as Sandy. With the whole silent thing. Also they're both sassy/sarcastic and very extra/show off-ie tbh. Idk I feel like you could make a very solid argument for Spy being Sandy (tho let's be honest Spy would most likely be Pitch becuase 💅)
Might be surprising but I'm gonna go with Demo for Bunny. I know, I know: Sniper is right there. HOWEVER, Bunny is all over the damn place and is a little too smart for Sniper to match him. But Demo? Perfect. Got that intrest in the occult/magic + science aspect to him too that fits Bunny more imo.
The only place I feel that Bunny and Sniper meet would be their reclusiveness? Both def love their alone time. You could also shove the fact that neither of them have living family but .... kinda dark imo lmao. There are def other things that would make a better argument on his behalf but yeah !!
For Tooth: character wise, Pauling fits Tooth better than any of the mercs lol. But if you want to go with only mercs then I think Medic goes right here with all his doves 🥰 also between collecting teeth (granted Tooth collecting teeth is no where near the same as Medic collecting... any kind of body parts) and that scene in the Warren with Sofie... yeeaaah I feel like they match up nicely to a point.
For Jack, well, it's another obvious pick but Scout. I mean!!! Not only are you looking at a kid from Boston, aka snow storms every winter, but he has that cocky high energy + fun vibe with him so ??? Who else would even fit. You could also argue that Jack's relationships to MiM is similar to Scout's with Spy (tho I wouldn't say that Spy fits MiM himself).
The only merc I simply cannot place is Soldier lol. Honestly, he'd most likely be one of the Burgess' kids (Cupcake 🥺🥰)
#this was such a fun ask im 🥺😭😭😭💕#sorry to all the normal people who dont dedicate a month to one 10 year old movie 💅#rotg#ask.mebs#anon#mine.mebs#long post#tf2#tf2 au#do i tag the mercs hmmm#nah#rotg x tf2

bittersweet - iii
pairing: spencer reid x reader, jay halstead x reader, sonny carisi x reader
genre: angst, fluff
warning: cursing, violence, graphic crime details, mentions of rape, mentions of death, fighting, mentions of kidnapping, mentions of alcohol
word count: 4.2k
summary: a huge case calls for the bau, intelligence, and special victims, causing you to cross paths with your ex – that no one in your team knew about
other parts: one, two
a/n: ahhh it’s the final part! again, thank you to everyone who has supported this mini series (and all of the asks i’ve gotten about bittersweet has me hollering). also, i used one part of this fic from another one of my fics – how unoriginal of me but idc lol i hope you guys like this ending!
“i have to go after him!”
“i know you do sweetie,” penelope held your arms, trying to calm you down. “but this is urgent. i promise you can talk to spencer soon.”
“but-” you cried.
“y/n, he’ll be fine.” olivia said, patting your shoulder. you breathed in, trying to slow down your anxious heart.
spencer walked back into the squadroom a few moments later. you tried to approach him as everyone gathered around penelope, but was met with a cold glance from him as he distanced himself from you. you exhaled, turning your attention to the tech analyst.
“go ahead garcia.” hank said.
“i did some research on the 10 girls and nothing came up. they all continued on with their lives or went through recruitment again and happily joined other chapters. they’re all model citizens.” penelope explained.
“okay, go on.”
“and so i did some digging on the sororities themselves, and apparently one of the chapter’s presidents was kicked out a few years ago after being caught hazing new members and was even arrested.” she said, pulling up the article.
you grimaced, thinking of what horrible thing she could’ve possibly done to those girls.
“melanie clarkson, sigma phi kappa.” emily read out loud from penelope’s screen.
“what did she do to the new members?” olivia asked, penelope’s eyes quickly skimming through the article.
“oh god. she laced their drinks with small doses of rat poison and later sodomized them.” penelope said. you were starting to get a sick feeling in your stomach. jj and kim rushed over to you, rubbing your back in order to calm you down.
“so she’s our unsub.” rossi stated.
“she’s had most of her m.o. already before she escalated to killing.” jay stated.
“what’s the connection between her and the other two chapters?” sonny asked as penelope typed away.
“her two younger sisters,” she said, pulling up several files. “lea and hailey clarkson, both 20. they went to two different colleges – one in richmond and one in chicago.” she gulped.
“let me guess, kappa alpha delta and delta xi?” hotch asked for confirmation.
“bingo. there’s medical records going back two years ago of the two sisters coming in the er, both reported to have been raped. sodomized to be specific.”
everyone sighed. you especially cringed to yourself.
“you okay?” emily whispered to you, patting your back.
“yeah,” you weakly nodded. “i can’t believe that these women would do that to each other. it’s so fucking cruel. sororities are supposed to be about sisterhood – not trying to hurt each other.”
“and you are definitely not one of those girls, y/n.” jj reassured you.
you nodded at her, thanking her for her empathy.
“it looks like they were the only ones from their sororities to report the rapes.” penelope continued.
“so they were probably the only ones who were raped?” kevin questioned.
“the news of a melanie being arrested ruined her sisters’ legacy of joining sigma phi kappa so they joined different chapters,” you thought out loud. “everyone must’ve heard about what she did to them, so they targeted her younger sisters as payback.”
“did the sisters file a police report?” olivia asked.
“yes,” penelope answered. “it said that their chapter executive board were in on the attacks.”
suddenly, a light turned on in your head.
“wait, can you pull up everything you have on our past victims?” you asked.
“why?”
“the president from sigma phi kappa told me that our two recent victims were on their exec board.” you explained.
“all of the victims were on their chapter’s executive boards during their last year.” penelope clarified.
“there’s our victimology.” rossi chirped.
“where is melanie now?” derek asked.
“she’s 25 now. released on good behavior after serving for two years and got off probation a year ago.” penelope said.
“her sisters’ attacks were the stressor. waited until she was off probation and then started killing throughout this year.” jj added.
“her financials show that she flew to chicago and richmond during the times of the murders.” penelope called out.
“good job babygirl.” derek patted her back.
“anything else you can get on her, give it to carisi.” hotch ordered, penelope quickly nodding as she continued typing.
“hey guys!” one of the officers shouted, catching everyone’s attention. “we got a call about an intruder at the sigma phi kappa house at hudson.”
“it must be melanie,” hotch clarified. “alright everyone, let’s go.”
everyone prepared, strapping on their vests.
“burgess, ruzek, prentiss, you’ll ride with me.” hank stated.
“rollins, reid, and morgan, you’re with me.” olivia ordered.
“l/n, jj, halstead, looks like you’re riding with me.” hotch said.
“the rest of you are riding with me.” fin called out.
everyone nodded their heads.
as soon as you got yourself ready, you walked up to spencer.
“spencer, can we talk about this?” you pleaded, his eyes not meeting yours. “spence, please-”
before you could even finish, he walked away, joining the others as he walked out. you bit back tears as you took a deep breath. jay gave you a sad smile and a light pat on your shoulder.
now’s not the time, get your head in the fucking game.
-
you stared straight ahead of you as hotch drove to the house. you felt a hand grab yours. you turned your head to see jj giving you a sympathetic smile.
“everything’s going to be fine, y/n,” she said. “spencer loves you too much just to give up on you two because of a misunderstanding. you remember last time that happened.”
you and spencer walked back to your apartment in silence.
“y/n?” he said, pulling his hand away from yours.
“yeah babe?” you tilted your head at him. he visibly swallowed.
“are, are you cheating on me?” spencer croaked. you raised your eyebrows at him.
“what? babe, no! where did you get that from?” you shook your head.
“you’ve been sneaking off and being quiet lately. you won’t even let me into your apartment for the past couple of weeks. please be honest with me y/n, are you cheating on me?” his eyes became glossy.
“i’m not! it’s not what you think.” you tried to explain to him.
“y/n, please spare me the pain and just break up with me if you don’t love me anymore.”
“spencer!” you yelled. “i love you and only you, okay? i’m sorry i’ve been secretive lately, but it’s definitely not because i’ve been cheating on you.”
“i-it’s not?” spencer blushed, feeling guilty for accusing you of such a horrible act.
“no.” you said, grabbing his hand and quickly walked to your front door.
the moment you two entered your dark apartment, the lights turned on, revealing the rest of your team.
“happy birthday spencer!” they cheered. spencer’s jaw dropped.
this explains everything. shit-
“happy birthday spence.” you sadly smiled at him, looking at your feet. spencer scooped your into his arms, holding you tightly.
“oh my god i’m so, so, so sorry y/n. i should’ve trusted you. i can’t believe i would even think for a second that you would do such a thing. i know you would never do that to me. i’m so sorry-” he cried in the crook of your neck.
“spencer! it’s okay! i forgive you!” you exclaimed. he pulled away from you, looking into your eyes. he then quickly leaned in, practically smashing his lips onto yours. you immediately kissed back, molding your lips together.
“whoa there kids, there are people here!” derek shouted as the rest of the team screamed.
you laughed as you both let go of each other.
“i love you.”
“i love you too.”
you chuckled at the memory.
“yeah.” you whispered.
moments later, you felt the car being put into park.
as soon as everyone arrived, hotch chatted with the responding officer.
“what do we have?”
“no gunshots reported yet, door’s been broken into, there must be at least 50 girls in that house with the intruder.”
“okay, everyone listen up,” hotch shouted, gathering everyone’s attention as they were arming up. “benson and voight, your groups will get as many people as you can out of the house. those who rode with me, we will go in and find melanie. l/n, you will try to talk her down.” he ordered.
you nodded your head at him.
your group entered the house first, the others soon following and silently walking throughout the house and scattered into the different halls.
you watched as girls exited their rooms in a panicked manner, the team leading them out the front door.
where the hell is she?
you suddenly remembered the room maria showed you when you and jay asked for their rosters. your feet found themselves picking up the pace as you walked towards the study, the rest of your group trailing behind you. you noticed the door had already been opened, immediately walking in gun first.
you entered to see a woman holding a gun to maria’s head. the woman’s eyes filled with anger.
“melanie clarkson, fbi! drop your weapon.” you shouted as everyone aimed their weapons at her.
“these girls have ruined my life! they ruined my sisters’ lives!”
“no, melanie. you ruined your lives when you decided to hurt those girls.”
“is this your way of talking down someone?” melanie spat.
“is this your way of getting revenge for lea and hailey? maria didn’t hurt your sisters. let her go.”
“she didn’t, but she hurt me.” melanie cried.
“how did she hurt you?” you calmly asked.
“she-she was the one who had me arrested! she made me lose my position just for her to take it years later!” she shouted.
“i’m sorry!” maria yelled as tears ran down her face.
“shut up, bitch!” melanie pressed the gun further into her temple.
“melanie! put the gun down! think of your sisters – think of lea and hailey. they just got you back.”
“it doesn’t matter, i’m going back anyways.” melanie scowled.
“would you rather go back or be dead?” you asked.
melanie glared at you, removing the gun from maria’s head to aim at you.
“i don’t know, what do you think, madam president?” melanie snarled. you gave her a confused look. “don’t give me that look. i saw you in an article and did my research on you. y/n l/n – alpha chi delta alumnae. i was proud to see successful women who were in greek life. then i read that you were the president your last year.”
“what does that have to do with anything?” you furrowed your eyebrows.
“tell me, how did you haze your new members?” she smirked, placing her finger on the trigger. you mirrored her actions, ready to fire at her if necessary.
“i didn’t.” you stated.
“is that so?”
“yes. i’m not some psychopath who enjoys torturing innocent people. is that what gets you off? poisoning them and then sexually assaulting them?” you spat back.
“you bitch.”
-
the rest of the team stayed back as soon as they had the girls outside of the house.
“do we have everyone?” olivia asked the big group of girls who were shivering from the cold.
“no! where’s maria?!” one girl shouted, catching the captain’s attention.
“we have one girl missing.” olivia spoke into her radio.
“visual on suspect. she’s holding a girl at gunpoint. we have y/n talking to her right now.” vanessa responded.
the mention of y/n over the radio caught both derek and spencer’s attention, snapping their heads up as they looked at each other.
“i gotta get back in there.” spencer said.
“you can’t. they’re gonna be fine.”
“what if something happens to her?” he furrowed his eyebrows in worry.
“y/n will be fine. let her do her job.” morgan said as he placed his hands on his friend’s shoulders, trying to hold him still.
spencer breathed in and out slowly, but can’t fight the horrible feeling of something happening to his fiance – and he wasn’t able to do anything about it.
bang! bang!
spencer’s breath hitched as he saw the medics ran passed him. he tried running into the house, but was pulled back by derek.
“let me go!” spencer yelled as he tried to fight out of derek’s arms.
“take it easy kid!” the older man shouted.
“y/n!” he cried.
“i feel cold.” you whispered as spencer pressed his hand onto your chest, trying to stop the bleeding.
“shhh, be quiet, you’re gonna be fine.” he said, letting out a small sigh of relief when he saw the medics run in. he pulled away as they worked on you.
“hey kid, she’s gonna be fine. she’s a fighter.” rossi said.
the bleeding looks really bad. he thought to himself as he bit his lip.
“i know she is. i can’t help it, you know? what happens if she doesn’t?” spencer sighed.
“spencer! spencer help! help!” he heard you yell as the medics try to hold you down. he rushed over to you, a terrified look painting his face as he saw you thrashing around.
“y/n?!”
“spencer! spencer! spencer!” your shouts grew louder. he jumped back to see everyone looking at him, shouting his name over and over again.
he felt his body shaking.
“spencer!”
his eyes suddenly opened as he quickly sat up, gasping loudly.
“spencer!”
he turned his head to see you looking at him with worry. he pulled you towards him, circling his arms around your middle.
“oh thank god, you’re okay.” he cried into your neck. your arms wrapped around him, rubbing circles on his back with one hand.
“shhh, i’m right here. everything’s okay. i’m okay.” you whispered, running your other hand through his hair.
spencer pulled away, cradling your face with his big hands.
“y-you were bleeding out on the floor and t-the medics couldn’t do anything. you were yelling. you were in pain.” he spoke as tears rolled down his cheeks.
“it was just a nightmare sweetie,” you said as your thumbs wiped his face clean. “i’m right here. i’m never leaving your side, ever.” you reassured.
“promise?”
“promise.”
“y/n!” spencer cried out once more, choking on his sobs. he saw most of your group walk out – but there was no sighting of you.
no, not like this. please.
he saw a gurney with a body bag on top being wheeled out of the house and thought his heart stopped beating.
“where is she?!” spencer roared. derek’s grip on him loosened. he hurried past several people towards the front door, only to stop in his tracks.
there you were, walking down the steps as you wrapped a jacket around maria.
he loudly sighed in relief, placing his hands on his knees as he tried to keep himself up.
you walked maria to one of the ambulances.
“i’m sorry it had to end this way,” you apologized. “no one should have to go through this.”
“i thought i did the right thing years ago. did i cause this?” maria asked as a medic checked up on her.
“you did the right thing, maria,” you emphasized. “you did not cause this. melanie chose to murder those women.” you comforted her.
“thank you.” she smiled at you.
“i still meant what i said earlier. if you need anything, call me.” you smiled back, patting her shoulder as you walked away.
you approached everyone as they were all conversing with each other.
“great work today l/n.” hotch nodded at you, olivia and hank smiling at you.
“let’s all go out for dinner!” adam exclaimed.
“i’m down for anything that isn’t chinese takeout.” kevin quipped, high fiving adam as everyone else shouted in agreement.
“thank god you’re okay, y/n,” rollins hugged you. “you had us worried once we heard those gunshots.”
“yeah, melanie shot at me. luckily, she missed,” you let out a sigh. “where’s spencer?”
“he’s sitting by one of the ambulances.” adam answered.
“why? what happened? is he okay?” you articulated quickly.
“calm down kid, he’s fine,” derek laughed. “he was the most worried out of all us when we heard shots. he’s just catching his breath.”
you felt a wave of relief rushing through you.
“go talk to him,” emily said. “he might’ve been pissed earlier, but he still loves you, you know?”
you nodded as you broke away from the group.
you carefully walked up to spencer who had his head down.
“spencer?” you quietly called out to him. he locked eyes with you, jumping up and wrapping his arms around you. you melt under his touch.
“i’m sorry, y/n. i’m so fucking sorry.” he sniffed as he placed his head on your shoulder.
“it’s okay, i’m sorry too.” you said, crying as you held him in your arms.
“i saw you and jay hugging and i just lost it. i know you wouldn’t cheat on me or ever do anything to ruin our relationship, but i couldn’t help but feel broken at the thought of losing you. then you went and tried to talk down melanie. when i heard shots being fired, i thought the earth had stopped spinning. i thought that i lost you forever and the last memory you had of me was me acting like a jerk to you. i should’ve trusted you more. i’m so fucking sorry.” spencer rambled quickly.
even after all of these years of hearing him talk, you still managed to catch every word that left his mouth.
“baby, it’s okay, you have nothing to be sorry for,” you cooed, cradling his face in your hands as you wiped his tears away. “i’m the one who should be sorry for ever making you doubt our relationship. that hug between me and jay could’ve been interpreted differently to anyone. but i swear to you, it was just a friendly hug after he apologized for everything. i can assure you, nothing will ever happen between me and him. he’s finally moved on.”
“god, i love you so much y/n.” he smiled at you.
“i love you too spence.” you smiled back.
spencer pulled you in for a deep kiss, leaving you dizzy afterwards. everything felt right again.
“come on,” you smiled, grabbing spencer’s hand and dragging him away from the ambulance. “i heard we’re having a big dinner tonight.”
-
after getting ready at the hotel, you and spencer arrived at the restaurant. you were escorted to the patio, walking up to the long table hand-in-hand under the small lights that decorated the exterior.
“our couple is back, and better than ever i may say!” rossi shouted as he raised his glass. cheers erupted from everyone, even jay was clapping with joy.
you and spencer blushed as you two walked to your seats that was placed between emily and jay. you assumed the seat next to jay was yours, until you see your fiance sitting next to him.
“hey jay.” he started.
“hey man.” the other said, facing him.
“i just wanted to apologize for earlier. i went too far and was an asshole to you. i don’t think you’re an egotistical, meat-headed, jealous ass.” spencer recalled, making jay chuckle. you, along with the rest of the table, had shock painted all over your faces.
“don’t sweat it. i’m sorry for being an asshole too,” jay laughed. “i acted out of jealousy, but now i realize that she’s moved on, and i have to move on as well. i can see you make her very happy.”
“thank you. i accept your apology.”
“yours as well, and congratulations on the engagement you two,” jay gave you both a smile. spencer nodded, giving him an awkward smile in response. “come on, bring it in man.” jay smirked, pulling spencer in for a hug.
“kid, that’s not how you give a bro hug!” derek exclaimed, causing everyone to laugh.
dinner continued as normal. everyone shared their own stories, talked to you and spencer about wedding details, and even making toasts to you two.
soon, everyone fell into their own worlds, having their own separate conversations.
amanda turned to sonny who was looking at you as you leaned on spencer’s chest.
“that could’ve been you, you know?” she mumbled to him. sonny lightly jumped at her voice.
“what?” he turned to her.
“come on, we all know you liked her right before she started dating halstead.” amanda smirked.
“was it that obvious?” he asked, earning a nod from the blonde. he looked down. “i messed up years ago.”
“i know.” amanda sighed.
“have you asked out y/n yet?” amanda, smirked, leaning on sonny’s desk as he went through his paperwork.
“uh, no.” he shook his head.
“and why not?”
“because i told her i liked you so she didn’t think i had a crush on her.” sonny muttered softly, not making eye contact with amanda.
“you what?!” she exclaimed.
“i-i told her i liked you.” he spoke a little louder.
“and why would you do that?” amanda’s eyes widened.
“because she doesn’t like me like that? she’s way out of my league.” sonny exclaimed.
“that doesn’t even make any sense! are you an idiot? she’s had feelings for you for the longest time.” amanda rubbed a hand against her forehead.
“she does?” sonny furrowed his eyebrows.
“yes! when did you tell her that?”
“like a few weeks ago.”
“no wonder she didn’t feel like hanging out with us during that time,” she sighed. “she’s been trying to get over her crush on you.”
“well, what am i supposed to do now?”
“tell her how you really feel when she comes in.” amanda said, giving the tall man a stern look.
as if on cue, you walked in with a smile on your face.
“someone’s unusually happy this morning,” fin chirped. “care to share with the class?” he said, making you laugh.
“well, you know that one detective, jay halstead?” you raised an eyebrow.
“that one hot guy from chicago intelligence? yeah, what about him?” amanda asked.
“we went on a date last night.”
“oh?” amanda chirped, giving a quick look at sonny.
“h-how did it go?” he asked, trying to act normal.
“it was magical. he asked me to be his girlfriend.” you beamed at him, ignoring the blush that tinted your cheeks.
“oh my god, congratulations!” sonny laughed, hopefully the sound of his cheers covered the sound of his breaking heart.
-
sonny pulled out his phone as soon as he heard it rang.
y/n calling facetime...
he happily pressed the accept button, watching your face pop up.
“sonny!” you grinned.
“y/n! how’s it going in d.c.?” he asked.
you would facetime sonny and the rest of special victims any time you had some free time after working on multiple cases. he was there to comfort you when you broke up with jay, and even flew out to d.c. with you to help you settle into your new apartment.
“it’s great! everyone here is so nice.” you said as you told your best friend about the different people of the bau.
“they all sound amazing! is that everyone in the bau?” sonny asked.
“there’s one more! uh, spencer reid.” you smiled to yourself.
“what’s with that face y/n?” he teased.
“nothing! it’s nothing.”
“tell me about spencer.” sonny pushed.
you inhaled.
“well, spencer, he’s really smart and kind. he can be a bit awkward sometimes, put that’s part of his charm.” you chuckled.
“it sounds like you have a little crush.” he smirked.
“yeah, about that,” you nervously scratched the back of your neck. sonny raised an eyebrow at you. “i’m dating him – i’ve been for a few months already, actually.” you confessed.
“what?!” sonny almost yelled, jumping from his seat. “and you didn’t tell me?”
“i’m sorry! i’ve been busy!” you blushed.
“even a text saying ‘hey best friend, just wanted to tell you, i’m dating someone’ would’ve been fine.”
“i know! i’m sorry! i just wanted to facetime you when i told you, but then i kept getting called in for cases and you know how i tend to forget things-” you pouted.
“i’m just teasing you y/n,” sonny laughed. “i’m happy for you.”
“really?” you said, eyes filled with hope.
“yes, you deserve to find love after jay.”
“aw, thank you sonny, that means a l-” you said, suddenly stopping when you got a notification.
“another case?” sonny asked.
“unfortunately,” you frowned. “i’m so sorry.”
“don’t be, it’s your job. we’ll call again when you can, okay?” he said, earning a nod from you. “and tell that spencer guy i said hi.”
“of course. i love you sonny!” you said goodbye. sonny nodded, knowing that you meant it platonically.
“i love you too y/n, stay safe!” he smiled back, hoping that it didn’t falter as you hung up – your face suddenly disappearing.
“guess i was just too late.” sonny shrugged.
“i’m sorry.” amanda said, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“it’s fine. as long as she’s happy, i’m happy. and that’s all that matters to me.” sonny sighed, taking a sip of his drink as he watched you slapped spencer’s chest, laughing at something he said.
hopefully the alcohol that burned his throat distracted him from that bittersweet feeling.

As Hailey came out of her room and downstairs to the kitchen, she spied her mother standing by the stovetop as the teenager rubbed the sleep out of her eyes with a yawn. Her mother smiled over at her as she flipped a piece of bacon, kissing her daughter’s forehead as she tiredly made her way over.
“Well good morning my Hailey Bailey,” Anne smiled as Hailey buried her head into the crook of neck. “You sleep alright?”
Hailey nodded lightly, her voice raspy as she opened her mouth to speak. “Yeah. I was awoken to the smell of food though, so I’m glad to see that there was in fact something cooking down here and I’m not having a stroke.”
“I’m makin’ some bacon — if you wanna put some bread in the toaster too, that’d be a help.”
“You’re liking your rhymes today, aren’t you?” Hailey chuckled lightly as she yawned once again, pulling the loaf of bread from the pantry as she shoved a few pieces into the toaster without much care.
The sound of footsteps coming down the stairs caused both Hailey and her mother to look up as her father came downstairs. He too wore a smile as he came over to Hailey and his wife, kissing them both on the top of their heads just like Anne had done only moments earlier.
“Morning sweetie,” Hailey’s father squeezed Hailey’s shoulder in passing as he reached around her to turn on the coffee pot.
“Morning dad.”
“I was planning on going into the shop today,” he started, turning to Hailey as he pulled a mug from the top shelf. “Do you wanna come with me, Hailey?”
Hailey hummed in thought for a moment. “I don’t know. Can I think about it?”
“'Course you can.”
It was moments like these that Hailey held onto, storing them at the forefront of her mind for when she needed them. As easy as it was to convince herself that things at home were all bad, all the time — that just wasn’t true. Sometimes there were good moments where she and her parents spent hours laughing with smiles so big that her cheeks hurt. Hailey held onto the memories of sitting behind the counter at her father’s store while she and her brothers would joke around, beaming when their father would bring them soft serve ice-cream that would leave her hands sticky and her nose dotted with white. Her father had been a violent drunk long before Hailey had first made her appearance in the world and would probably be a violent drunk for a long time coming — that didn’t mean that the good moments couldn't quite easily cloud the bad moments for both Hailey and her mother.
As they all sat down at the table, three plates set out in their usual places in front of them, Hailey speared some of the food onto the end of her fork before placing it in her mouth. A cup of orange juice sat beside her plate as she bought it to her lips and took a sip, scrunching her nose up at her mother who was staring at her daughter with admiration.
“Nate called,” Anne began, directing her words at Hailey who perked up at the sound of her brother’s name. “He wanted to know if I thought you were liking your new school. I told him given the fact that a boy who wasn’t Adam dropped you off at home last night, I’d say you were settling in pretty nicely.”
“A boy, hey?” Hailey’s father smirked over at the teenager who rolled her eyes. “Is he your boyfriend?”
“No, he’s not my boyfriend,” Hailey drawled. “He’s one of Adam’s friends and by extension, my friend. He happens to be in my literature class and the teacher paired us together for our poetry assignment. But yes, I’m liking it a whole lot better at this school — I have friends there for the first time in so long.”
Hailey’s mother smiled at her as her father stood up, mumbling something about fetching something from the kitchen as she and her mother continued eating their breakfast. It wasn’t often that they would eat together at the table — which was why Hailey was so shocked when she woke up to the smell of food. It seemed that things were going to go well today by the way the day had started off, but when her father returned with a bottle of rum — the blonde-haired teenager had to physically bite down on her tongue to stop herself from screaming at him.
“Unbelievable,” Hailey muttered under her breath venomously, slamming her knife and fork down onto her plate as she watched her father pour his rum into his coffee. “I’m going to Adam’s.”
Anne frowned deeply, standing up at the same time that Hailey did before reaching out for her daughter’s arm in an attempt to stop her from leaving.
“Hailey, please —”
“Don’t, mom. I’ll see you later — or not. Whatever.”
Anne audibly sighed as she sat back down in her seat, watching as Hailey walked right out the front door and across the street, disappearing out of sight.
❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄
At the Ruzek's house, Hailey found herself in the kitchen as she raided the fridge for something to eat. After leaving three quarters of her breakfast on her plate back at her own house, her stomach was rumbling loudly while she searched high and low for something that would rid her of her hunger. She groaned loudly when there was nothing that she could throw into the microwave to eat, her forehead meeting the refrigerator door over and over again with a distinct clunk.
“Hailey,” Bob chuckled from behind her as he came into the kitchen, his collar unbuttoned and rings around his eyes — he had just come home from yet another night shift. “What’re you up to?”
“Shit — sorry.” Hailey smiled sheepishly over at the man. “Did I wake you?”
Bob shook his head lightly. “No, no, you didn’t wake me. I have some things to do before I go and crash. Now — what’re you looking for?”
“Food. Anything that resembles food. I had a decent breakfast going for me until someone decided to cover it with the stench of rum mixed in with coffee.”
Bob sighed, offering up a knowing look. “I’m sorry.”
“Not your fault. I just — ugh.”
Bob came up beside Hailey as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder, squeezing her in a comforting manner as he sighed sadly.
“Tell you what — if you wanna take my car and grab something to eat, you’re welcome to.”
Hailey shrugged, seeming slightly opposed as she rested her head upon the fridge once again. “It’s okay — I’ll wait until Adam wakes up so we can both go and get something.”
“Alrighty. Just know that the offer stands regardless of if you can drag his ass out of bed before midday.”
Hailey let out a halfhearted laugh. “Thank you, Bob.”
And with that, Hailey headed up the stairs and towards her best friend's room, pushing his door open and heading right over to the bed. She pulled the covers back slightly before sliding underneath them, her head on the pillow beside Adam’s as she poked him repeatedly.
“Adam. Wake up,” Hailey started, her finger colliding with his forehead. “Adam. Adam. Adam. Adam!”
A groan came from the boy as he opened up his eyes, glaring at the blonde as she continued poking him, completely unbothered by the sour look she was receiving.
“You’re the world’s most annoying person, you know that?”
Hailey only chuckled as she refused to move from her position, letting out a frustrated huff which clued Adam into the fact that something had happened. He couldn’t quite work out exactly what — she wasn’t upset, just seemingly pissed off — leaving Adam to lay there watching as she shoved her head beneath a pillow to muffle the scream she proceeded to let out.
“Your morning’s going that good is it?”
Hailey grabbed the pillow which was across her face and bought it down to her chest as she huffed once more. “Just one time, I wish we could be a normal family, you know? One time. The closest we ever get to being a normal family is Saturday mornings before he starts drinking, and yet within five fucking minutes of waking up and coming downstairs he’s pouring rum into his coffee right in front of us. In about forty-five minutes he’ll be throwing around insults, and an hour after that he’ll be throwing around a lot more than that. I don’t want to have to be there for that Adam. I can’t. I had such a good week this week, and now the weekend is here and he’s starting earlier and earlier with every week that goes by.”
Adam looked over at Hailey only to catch her forcing back the tears gathering in her eyes, the boy pulling his best friend close to him as she laid on his arm defeatedly. His heart ached for the girl who he thought of as a sister — she didn’t deserve this. Nobody did.
“I’m glad I have you, Adam. I really don’t know what I would do if I didn’t.” Hailey found herself speaking only the truth as her stomach rumbled yet again. “Ugh — I’m so hungry.”
Adam closed his eyes once again, realising where the girl was going with her words as he groaned. “Haileyyyy."
“Adammmm,” she mocked in a similar tone. “Wake upppppp.”
“Why don’t you just take my car?”
“That’s no fun! It’s better when you’re driving because then I get full control over the music!”
“But I wanna sleep,” Adam whined loudly, causing Hailey to laugh from beside him. “It’s like — seven in the morning, dude!”
“Actually — it’s eleven thirty which is why I’m here waking you up in the first place. If it were seven in the morning I would have gone to the guest bedroom and gone to sleep because I do not want to be awake at seven on a Saturday unless it’s because I’m going to fucking Disneyland.”
Hailey sighed when she didn’t receive a response from her best friend, the boy either having fallen asleep again with Hailey laying on his arm or deciding to simply ignore her completely, leaving her to pull her phone from her pocket and scroll through her social media timeline. It was only when she saw a photo that Jay had posted that the man popped back into her head; she realised she needed to get his number so she could thank him for the day before.
“Adam,” Hailey poked the boy once again, earning a single open eye from him. “What’s Jay’s number?”
“Yeah, right — because I can totally remember his number off the top of my head.” Even though his words were muffled through the pillow, Hailey still heard the sarcasm in Adam’s tone. “It’s in my phone somewhere. Why?”
“I just want to tell him thank you for driving me home.”
Hailey didn’t wait for a response as she reached across Adam to get to his phone, unlocking it with ease as she quickly found Jay’s contact and sent it to herself. Before she knew it, she was typing out a message to the freckled boy from her own phone, her fingers seemingly knowing what to say better than her brain did.
Just that small interaction with her new friend had brightened her mood back to what it had been before she had to witness the beginning of her father’s downward spiral. Soon enough she was laying beside her best friend and poking him all over again, although this time, Adam finally woke up and sat upright, much to the girl’s delight. Both Hailey and Adam were still dressed in their makeshift pyjamas as they drove to a McDonalds a few miles away, picking up a few breakfast items from the drive through before parking in the parking lot to eat them.
❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄
Waking up the next morning in the guest bedroom at the Ruzek’s house, Hailey found herself blinking a few times as her eyes adjusted to the light. Although she called it the guest bedroom, the reality was that over the years it had fully turned into her own bedroom for when she stayed the night (or the week). She had clothes hanging in the closet, shoes under the bed — hell, there was even a sign on the door that Adam’s mother had bought for her years ago saying ‘Hailey’s room - stay out!’ Hailey hadn’t ever bothered to take it off, mainly because it seemed like a lot of effort for something she didn’t particularly care much about, but it was little things like that which made all the difference. There were never any questions asked when Hailey would turn up unexpectedly, nobody ever made a big deal when they heard her come inside and creep up to the ‘guest' bedroom at 3 in the morning. When they woke up in the morning only to find Hailey pacing around in the kitchen — or in Bob’s case, to find her hitting her head against the fridge in frustration — they did nothing but give her a kiss on the head and ask what she wanted for breakfast. Hailey was just as much Pamela and Bob’s daughter as Adam was their son — they wouldn’t have it any other way.
Hailey threw the covers off of herself before stretching her arms up, her joints clicking into place before she reached over for her phone. It was almost nine in the morning, meaning she had about an hour before she had to leave to meet Jay at the park. After taking a quick shower, brushing her teeth and getting dressed, Hailey grabbed a bagel from the pantry before texting Adam to let him know where she was as she headed out the front door. She didn’t have to wait for long before Jay showed up in his truck, the boy moving over to the passenger’s side as Hailey jumped into the driver’s seat with a smile, swallowing the last of her bagel.
“Good morning,” Hailey greeted politely as she placed her hands on the steering wheel, rubbing it slightly — it had been a while since she had driven. “How’s your weekend been?”
“Eh,” Jay shrugged. “My dad’s been on my nerves — but when is he not? Oh well — It’s better now that we’re getting pancakes and coffee.”
Hailey grinned toothily. “Pancakes and coffee make everything better.”
“They really do.”
Driving Jay’s truck was surprisingly easy for Hailey, who for the record, wasn’t the tallest person around. Even he had thought she looked adorable hopping out of the vehicle when they arrived at the diner, the pair of them walking side by side as they found a table and pulled up a menu. While Hailey named off the things she had tried and gave her very detailed opinion on each and every one, Jay caught himself staring at the girl in complete admiration. There was something about her that lured him in and put him into a trance — he hadn’t ever been like this with anybody else in his entire life, and somehow it intrigued him yet also terrified him all at the same time. She was like some kind of goddess, roaming the streets and commanding the room with her nonchalance that she was completely oblivious to.
Jay and Hailey each ordered a plate of pancakes and a coffee each, the wait time not being long at all as their orders were delivered right in front of them. He watched — studied almost — every move that Hailey made, from how she picked up her knives and forks to how much creamer and sugar she put into her cup.
“You’re left handed,” Jay observed, his voice quiet as though he was making a note of it for himself. “Either that, or you never learned how to use a knife and fork properly.”
Hailey chuckled lightly, looking down at the utensils she was gripping. “Yes, I’m left handed. Are you already trying to eye off my pancakes, Halstead? I expect this from Adam who runs under the idea that when it comes to food, what’s mine is his — I thought you were more of a gentleman.”
“I am a gentleman, thank you very much! More of a gentlemen than Adam is at least. I wasn’t eyeing off your pancakes — I’m. . . learning.”
Hailey gave the boy a look to show she was not convinced in the slightest, provoking Jay to give a similar look of disbelief as he leaned back in his chair and threw his hands up incredulously.
“I am!”
“Uh huh. What learning would you be doing by looking at my pancakes slash hands, you weirdo?”
“We do have an assignment that involves us learning about each other, you know,” Jay defended, chuckling between his words. “I feel like the balance is uneven at the moment. You know heaps about me, yet I know barely anything about you.”
“Hate to break it to you, Halstead — that just means I’m doing my job.”
Jay huffed playfully with a roll of his eyes. “Hailey!”
“Okay, okay!” The blonde haired girl laughed heartily before settling down at last. “What do you want to know?”
“Who is Hailey Upton? Like — who is she really? What does she like to do? Does she have siblings? What secrets does she hold? Tell me random facts about yourself."
The two teenagers stared at each other for a heartbeat or two before Hailey cleared her throat, preparing to speak.
“My middle name is Anne. My birthday is May 23rd. Uhh — I have two brothers — both older — one’s in college in LA and one works as a mechanic up in Madison. I guess I like to read. I’m about as interesting as a blank piece of paper, Jay — I don’t really have much more to offer to you.”
Jay chuckled lightly at her choice of analogy. “Well I think you’re very interesting. Far more interesting than you let on.”
Hailey only smiled in response as she pushed a piece of hair out of her face gently, tucking it behind her ear as she took a bite of her pancakes, smiling to herself in content. She was completely unaware to the gaze of the boy sitting across from her, his eyes trained upon her in complete admiration at how one person could look so — perfect — doing the most regular things. Between sips of coffee and more bites of the syrup covered goodness sitting on his plate, he sat, he watched and he listened. Her voice was like a siren — soft and sweet — Jay could listen to it all day. And he did. But it was all in the name of completing their assignment . . . right?

Happy Birthday
(Kevin Atwater x Reader)
Pairings: Kevin Atwater x Reader, Adam Ruzek x Kim Burgess
“Come on girl, we’re gonna be late.” Kevin scolded as he unlocked and walked through the front door.
“Five more minutes!”
Having just finished applying lipstick, you stood in front of the mirror in your bedroom agonizing over which pair of earrings to wear.
“You don’t even have your shoes on.” Kevin entered the room, with your heels in hand, hoping to speed things along, but he was instantly staggered by the sight of his gorgeous fiance. “Well damn…” Dropping the shoes and walking towards you, forgetting all about his previous rushed state. You playfully dodge him, stooping to adjust and step into the heels he so carelessly discarded on the floor. Unrelenting, Kevin comes up behind you, arms wrapped around your waist and kissing your neck as you walk into the living room.
Finally turning around to face him, you permit him to one passionate kiss before snapping back to reality. With both hands on his chest to keep him at bay, “Kevin Atwater...stop it. Adam is going to kill you if you’re late to this dinner.
Stepping back for a moment to take you in, “I think he’ll understand.”
You burst out laughing and pushed him away, grabbing your clutch and jacket off the couch. It was never easy for you to resist Kevin, especially when he looked and smelled this good, hell, it was almost impossible. But, tonight was special for your friends and you had to be there for them.
Adam and Kim had been through a LOT over the last year and a half. It took plenty of late night gab sessions between you and Kim and tons of games of pool between Kev and Adam for the two of them to realize they were simply made for each other. Tonight, Adam just wanted to do something special for his girl with the people closest to them there to celebrate.
____
You and Kevin walked into the private room of the restaurant arm in arm to find Adam pacing back and forth.
“Ruz, you good? Cuz you don’t look too good man.”
Lightly hitting his arm as you walk over to greet Adam, “Kev leave him alone.”
Standing in front of Adam, you place your hands on his shoulders in an effort to calm him down. “Tonight will be great. Everything looks amazing.”
Kissing you on the cheek, “Thank you (Y/N). You look beautiful by the way.”
“Thanks sweetie.”
Kevin mumbles from across the room, “Yeah, we almost didn’t make it here dawg.”
You dart a glaring look at him.
“What was that man?”
“Ignore him.” You remove your jacket and assess the room to see if there’s anything you can prep before your best friend arrives.
______
The room is now filled with laughter and all of the people Kim loves. Members of Intelligence, a select few from 51, Adam’s dad, even Kim’s sister flew in.
After dinner, a waitress enters the room with a glowing birthday cake.
Adam clinks his beer bottle and stands to get everyone’s attention. Kim looks up at him adoringly, yet embarrassed, as she never knows what will fly out of his mouth.
“Hey! Everyone…”
Kevin whistles to get the room quiet for his brother as Kim removes the beer bottle from his hand, replacing it with a wine glass. The room erupts in laughter.
“Thank you darling. Ok, seriously. I just want to thank all of you for being here tonight to celebrate this beautiful woman’s birthday. All of you know that she’s been through a hell of a lot, but she’s kept going. She’s strong, she’s kind, she’s a badass...and I love her. So, everyone please raise a glass to my girl, Kimberly Burgess.”
Everyone in the room chimes in, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIM!!”
Adam leans down to plant a kiss on Kim’s lips, as you and Kevin look on like proud parents, finally seeing your children happy.
______
The room cleared out a bit as everyone said their final goodbyes. After you joyfully see Kim off with Adam, her knight in shining armor, you walk back into the room and notice Kevin, Hank and Jay in the corner. Having been with Kevin for a few years now, you knew what those faces meant. Your man was amazing at his job, it’s one of the many reasons why you fell in love, but the knot in your stomach always returned when you knew it was time for him to switch into that mode.
Further proving your theory, you overheard Voight say, “If we don’t grab this prick tonight he’s gonna blow town. We gotta move on this.”
You gathered your things and stood next to Trudy and Mouch. Hank and Jay exited the room as Kevin turned to you and walked over with an apologetic look on his face. Before he could get out one word, Platt interjected, “Don’t worry Kevin, we can take her home.”
Mouch chimed in to reassure him, “Yeah, I wanted to pass along my secret pasta recipe to (Y/N) anyway, since Trudy refuses to cook with me.” You both chuckled, knowing that that statement landed Mouch in hot water. Yanking Mouch’s ear, Trudy walked out the door, “He's gonna get the car and we’ll meet you outside (Y/N).”
“(Y/N)...I know I’m always working. I really wanted to be the one to take that dress off of you tonight. I’m sorry baby.”
“It’s ok, really. Go do what you have to do.”
Hailey reentered the room, “Hey Kev, can I roll with you back to the district? Voight and Jay went ahead.”
“I gotchu.”
Kevin held your hand as the three of you walked towards the door. The valet drove up in Kevin’s car...Hailey hopped in.
You smiled and released Kevin’s hand. “Go. By the time you get home I’ll have mastered a new recipe.”
You always did your best to put Kevin’s mind at ease before any assignment. His job was grueling, and being the woman by his side, you knew that fear for his safety came with the territory. You also knew that he couldn’t have any distractions when he was out there with his team, so hearing Randall run his mouth for 30 minutes about how he was a Master Chef was a small price to pay to ensure their safety.
Kevin planted a kiss on your forehead and walked towards the driver's side door, “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
_________
The light of the dawn was about to make its appearance as Kevin unlocked the front door to the loft. He closes it lightly behind him entering the living room to find you asleep on the couch, still in your dress. He locks his gun in the closet safe, puts his keys down on the coffee table and stands there for a moment taking you in. After adjusting the blanket over you, he joins you on the couch. Still half asleep, you turn your body to face him, now nestled comfortably in his arms.
“Hi..”
“I see you still have on the dress.”
“Uh huh...just for you.” Still groggy, you look up at him, gently touching his face, willing the stress of his night to melt away. “You ok?”
He moves in closer, holding you just a little bit tighter...kissing you slowly.
“Now, I’m perfect. Go back to sleep.”

JAY HALSTEAD
“Halstead family”
Requested: yes
Prompts: none
Warnings: angsty
Authors note: Y/S/N (your sons name) & Y/D/N (your daughters name)
"Wow, you look dead." Maggie bluntly told your moving corpse. You walked into the emergency department, bundled up in your big jacket and a random scarf you found on the floor of yours and Jay's bedroom.
"Oh yea, I'd like to see how you'd look if you had twins." You shoot back at her before yawning. The twins kept you up last night. Without Jay to sacrifice himself to them they used you as their dummy. You put your twins to sleep late, one of the last things you remember is Jay climbing in bed and telling you he's sorry for coming home late.
Then you woke up, dropped off the kids at daycare and came straight to work.
"Y/N you know I love you right? Your coffee is waiting for you in the lounge." Maggie smiles at you and you quicken your pace towards the doctor's lounge.
True to her words, your coffee is nested neatly on the coffee table. You sigh in relief and drop to the sofa before grabbing your coffee.
"The Halstead twins kept you up last night?" You recognize the voice. Will Halstead. Your husband's brother takes in the sight of you still in gloves and a big jacket, practically hugging the coffee.
"I'm dropping them off at your place for a week," You inform him. Will's eyes widen and he stops whatever he's doing.
"You're joking right? Does Jay know?"
"Jay's been more busy than ever," You admit. "He says everything's been hectic at the district. He told me to be careful."
"Yea, I heard." Will sighs. Both of you know 'hectic' in Jay's dictionary means dangerous. You can't help the wierd feeling that sneaks in and mixes with your emotions.
"Well anyways, I better get going." You down the last of your coffee and start stripping your coat, scarf and gloves. You put your usual doctors coat and grab your stethoscope before walking out of the lounge with Will hot on your tail.
***
"Mommy!" Your two bundles of joy start running towards you as soon as you exit the car. Y/S/N sprints like a champ and jumps in your arms, you hug him and shower him with kisses before his sister joins him in your arms too.
"How are my babies doing?" Your smile reaches the sky as you look at the tops of their heads. Both excited for what's to come now that they're back with you.
"I doing good mommy!" Y/D/N giggles into your hair before they both pull away.
"Where's daddy?" Your son looks behind you, hoping his dad will come out of the car the same way you did just now.
You know the answer to his innocent question. But the answer is so complex that you just say, "Daddys working."
"He's catching bad people. Right mommy?" You bring your hands up and fix your daughters loose pig tail. You nod your head and big smiles break on their faces. They loved the fact that their dad was a hero, but sometimes they didn't like that he was being a hero so much. Like right now.
They both look at you with their big doe eyes, Y/S/N's eyes look so much like yours while your daughters got Jay's eyes.
"Let's go get ice cream," You propose, knowing that ice cream will get their spirits up in no time. You load your little kids in the car and drive off to a gas station where you'll get some gas for you car and popsicles for the kids.
A few minutes of happy singing and laughing later, you round the car into the gas station. "Right, mommy will be right back just sit tight you two!" You exit your car and refill your car just enough to last you a few days. You then open the car door and unbuckle your son. Y/S/N jumps up and down a few times before he follows you to the other side of the car and patiently waits until you've unbuckled his sister too.
Your two toddlers both grab you hands and you make your way inside the gas station. Your eyes scan the station and you notice a black suv parked not too far from your car. A wierd feeling settles over you for a short moment. You shrug and smile at the clear excitement thats settling over your kids.
You enter the small shop and near the freezer where different ice-creams are displayed. Your son stand on his tip toes and scans the sweets inside with lust in his eyes. You take your daughter into your arms and help her see too.
They both take their time choosing what they'll eat and once they do you all go and pay for them. As you walk out together you hold their hands.
"Y/D/N here let mommy help you," Your daughters colorful ice cream is already melting all over her fingers. She whines at the stickiness of her fingers and so you grab a wipe and crouch down to her height and softly brush it over her small fingers. "Y/S/N?"
Your son that was just holding onto your shoulders is squirming and crying while a masked man is holding him - one hand around his middle and another over his small mouth. Your son was just there.
No, no, no, no. "Don't you dare touch him." You shield your daughter with your body and glare at the man, trying your best to keep calm even though tears were threatening to spill. Your baby boy looked so helpless in his arms. You couldn't see the man's face but you saw the gun in his hand and it was enough to halt your movements. He'll shoot him if I move.
The next few moments are blurry. Something is thrown over your head and your kids start screaming. "NO LEAVE THEM ALONE! TAKE ME INSTEAD PLEASE!"
You don't even question why they're taking you. You're just begging them to take you instead of your small children. You're harshly thrown in the back of what seems to be a van of some sort. Now you're tied up with the bag still thrown over your head and sitting on the floor of the car. "Mommy?"
Your daughters quiet voice startles you and you start crying. "Sweetie where are you?"
"Mommy it hurts." Your heart broke at her words and you curse yourself. How could you be so careless? You were their supermom. They were never supposed to be in this situation...
Jay promised.
It takes a few moments for you to start moving yourself with your legs. The vehicle was way too fast and you wondered where you were going. Your purse was no longer with you. Soon enough you feel a small foot against you back and you sigh in relief. "Mommy is that you?"
You put your mouth to his head and bite the bag that's thrown over him. You pull and take it off. "Y/S/N I need you to be brave now okay? Can you do that for mommy?"
You can almost see him nodding his head and his curly hair bouncing. "I know this is going to be hard but I need you do find your sister. Baby can you do that?"
There's shuffling and you can feel him moving slowly. You lean against the wall of the van and try to level your breathing whilst talking to your kids. Whilst trying to reassure them the best in your ability.
You stay hugged together for God knows how long. Your son helped you take off the bag thrown over your head but after that you couldn't do anything else. And so you singed them songs and kissed their heads all while trying to think how to get out.
The van suddenly stopped. "Shhhsshh it's going to be okay." There's loud commotion outside, several people are yelling and others are swearing. You want to cover their ears but your tied hands won't allow it. You shakily glare at the doors until they open wide. "Please don't touch my children."
And then you see him. You husband.
Jay stands outside the van and the moment he spots you he jumps inside and gathers you all in his big strong arms. Your kids cry hard while their dad rocks you all in his arms saying endless apologies. Your face rests in the crook of his neck and you inhale deeply, remembering how home smelled like.
"I'm so sorry Y/N," Jay presses a kiss to the top of your head and you silently break down. "C'mon let's get you all out of here."
You're not surprised to see dozen police cars outside. Every cop is on high alert even when you thought this might be over. Jay holds both of his two children in his arms, Y/D/N already fell asleep in her dad's arms. Your sons eyes are still puffy from crying but soon he'll be out too.
Burgess is the first one to give you a bug hug of reassurement, the rest do the same after her. Voight, Jay's Sargent instructs him to go home with you all but you know this was what Jay was planning on doing the moment he found you.
You help Jay put the kids in the car and then you make your way inside too. "I'm taking you to Med. Y/N honey I'm so sorry. I should've never let this happen. This is my fault and I don't know how I'm going to make it -" You cut him off with a strong kiss. The one in which you pour all your emotion into.
"I don't know what would've happened to us if you didn't save us when you did Jay. I love you. We love you."
"I love you too. More than the world."

Jack is Heard
Part 1 of The ABC Drabbles
Also read it here AO3 | fanfic.net
“You are an awful person, Jack Frost! You don’t even deserve to be called a person! You are a monster! An abomination! I hate you Jack Frost!” said a young, bright, sweet and yet terrifying little girl.
Jack Frost stood with his back pushed up against a tree with a heartbreaking look on his face. His eyes were filling with tears and he tried to blink them away but before he could, the little girl saw and said, “Aww. Is poor snowflake crying? Well, that’s too bad. I guess the baby needs a nap.”
Jack knew he should have saw it coming, but he definitely did not see the fist coming towards his face. He was knocked out on impact. He collapsed to the ground in a crumpled heap. The girl stood above saying, “Night-night, Jack. I’ll be back.”
___________________
Jack slowly awoke to a pounding head. He groaned loudly. He sat up with a hand on one side of his head. He slowly stood up with a wince, looking around. He saw a lot of trees and noticed that snow was coming down really fast and with low visibility. Jack groaned again. Just what he needed, a blizzard that was out of his control.
Jack quietly asked the wind to take him away, but before he could leave, someone was coming towards him. It was a small girl with long hair and hard to distinguish features. She approached Jack quickly and Jack forced himself into the tree. That was the girl from earlier!
“Hello, Jack. I’m back! Did you miss me?”
Jack gasped trying to come up with something witty to say but before he could she continued on saying, “Cat’s got your tongue? Have nothing to say? That’s just too darn bad!” When she finished speaking, she punched Jack in the stomach. Jack bent over, gasping for breath. However she did not stop there. She kicked his legs out from under him and he fell. Jack instantly curled up, knowing what was coming next.
She kicked him, everywhere. She kicked his legs, his arms, his head, his stomach, his back, everywhere. She pulled a knife out of her boot. Jack cautiously peeked from his current position but flinched violently when he saw her holding a knife. He quickly ducked his head back underneath his arms.
“Oh, Jack,” she said in a sing-song voice. “There’s no need to hide from me! I just want to have a little fun is all.” She approached Jack with her knife and knelt down. She grabbed a chunk of Jack’s snow white and pulled it towards her. Jack tensed, afraid what was going to happen. She moved her knife quickly towards the hair. She chopped the chunk of hair off and moved towards another. This time she cut it closer to the roots. She kept doing this until she had all of his hair. She backed away from and made it appear like she was leaving but instead climbed the tree Jack was under.
Jack sighed when he felt her finally let go of his hair. He stayed still until he was sure she was gone. He uncurled from his ball and felt his hair. It was now spotty and nearly bald in other places and generally did not look good. He was glad that his hair would grow back eventually although it was slow going. He sighed and leaned against the tree, closing his eyes.
The girl watched silently from her spot in the tree. She had not moved a muscle. She did not want to accidentally make a noise and have Jack see her. That would not do at all. It would not be good.
She saw Jack lean against the tree and close his eyes. Yes, this would be perfect. She dropped silently down from her branch and leaned close towards Jack. Jack felt a breeze and opened his eyes and immediately backed away with a slight, hard to hear screech. In front of Jack, crouched the girl and her knife held in front of her, towards Jack.
Jack tried to back up further but he was as close to the tree as he could get. He closed his eyes and hoped for the best. He pretended that she was not there and that he was simply resting against this tree.
The girl saw Jack close his eyes and she knew he was going to ignore her. That didn’t matter to her though. She gripped her knife tighter and brought it right up to Jack’s neck and she saw and felt him tense. She smiled. She slowly, oh so slowly, brought her knife closer and closer to Jack’s neck. She slit his skin and some blood started dribbling down his neck.
Jack whimpered but the whimper was dismissed quickly. She pushed the knife further and further until Jack felt like screaming but he did not want to give her the satisfaction. She kept going until the knife was halfway gone. She then slowly, agonizingly, pulled the knife back out.
Jack clenched his teeth and was tense but there was nothing he could do. Finally, after what seemed to last for infinite, the knife was away from him and he opened his eyes. What he saw was unsettling. The knife was coated in blood, his blood. He looked past the knife and towards the girl who did it and saw a smile on her face. The smile frightened him.
Jack slowly and cautiously, grabbed his staff, and stood up. The girl just stood there, staring at him. Jack stared back, careful to show no sign of the pain he was in. Then, the girl just turned around and walked away. Jack watched her walk away until she was a speck in the distance. Then Jack flew to his lake to take care of his injuries to the best of his abilities.
____________________
Jack sat in the middle of his lake looking down at the reflective icy surface. He gingerly touched the cut at his neck and flinched when he felt the pain. He allowed a thin layer of frost to form over the gash. He then flew to his favorite tree and went to sleep. He didn’t wake up for a week.
When the week was up, his cut was healed and he felt like he was never attacked. He called for the wind to ask to fly away, but no sound came out. Jack frowned and tried again. He received the same results. Jack began to panic and started to try screaming but no sound was made.
Jack fell to the ground crying, freaked out because of the silence. He HATED silence. Silence meant nobody talking, and being alone and Jack HATED being alone. He tried to avoid it but sometimes, there was only so much he could do.
He lay there on the ground, tears falling down to the ice where they promptly froze and he sobbed, and sobbed until he was sleeping, and he still had tears streaming from his eyes.
____________________
It’s been years since Jack lost his voice. He has gotten over it, or at least, can ignore it for days, months, years. He hides the scar though. He wears a blue turtleneck as well a blue beanie that he found. He flies all over the world delivering snow to the children.
Jack loves to play with them even if they can’t see him. He just pretends. He is good at that. He has had a lot of practice. He flies to Burgess street plaza. He watches and plays with the kids. He even gave a little boy the best sled ride he will ever encounter in all his life.
It began to get dark and the kids started to dwindle indoors to warm up by the fires and drink hot chocolate next to their families. Jack smiled softly and began to fly towards his lake till he saw a something move in an alley.
Curious, Jack flew down to the alley and saw the mysterious shape move away. Jack followed out of curiosity. Quickly, he caught up the fast moving figure. The figure turned around and said, “Hello mate. It’s been a while, hasn’t it. Blizzard of ’68 right?”
Startled, Jack stepped back but relaxed quickly realizing it was just Bunny. However, he felt something being placed rapidly over his head, and Jack began to freak out. He kicked and punched but he never connected. He felt as if he was going in circles until he hit something with a loud thud. He climbed out of whatever restricted him and looked about in wonder.
He was in the North Pole, North’s workshop! Jack has been trying to get in their for years! He looked around and he saw all of them. He saw Sandy floating in a corner, sleeping; North talking to one of his yetis; Tooth, talking to her fairies, giving out orders; and Bunnymund just popping out of one of his tunnels. Jack was actually ecstatic.
Jack was in North’s workshop! He could not believe it! He had a large smile on his face despite being shoved in a sack only minutes before. “What are you so happy about, Frost? Up to any tricks today,” said Bunny. Jack’s smile lessened slightly but it was hardly noticeable.
“Jack, my boy! Glad you could make it! You are Guardian now. Play music!” Instantly music began and there was confetti and streamers coming down and Jack was startled. He slammed his staff to the ground and frost spread everywhere. It even coated quite a few elves.
Jack made a motion as if to say, “Knock it off!” None of them particularly noticed this though.
“Jack, sweetie, why did you do that?” Jack motioned to it all with angry scowl indicating it was too much. It was all too much. The noises, the activity, it was way too much and in such short notice.
The Guardians looked at Jack in shock. Shocked that he didn’t just say what was wrong.
“Jack, why won’t you just say? All these motions are confusing.” Jack stared at them. They didn’t know that he couldn’t talk? He stared at each of them individually and pointed towards his neck with a slashing motion.
Sandy understood what he meant immediately. He tried to catch the others’ attention but they were still thinking it through. Frowning, Sandy picked up the nearest elf and shook him vigorously making his bells ring. The Guardians and Jack looked at him and he pointed to his mouth and made an X motion and pointed back towards Jack. The Guardians looked between the two and then they got it.
Jack couldn’t talk just like Sandy! Bunny looked at Jack and said, “So this entire time, you could not talk? Even in ’68?” Jack looked at him and responded by putting his arms up as if to say “Exactly!”
“I’m sorry Jack! I had no idea. If I had known,” Tooth said but Jack walked over to her an patted her shoulder. The meaning was instantly understood. Jack smiled, glad he was finally being ‘heard’.
___________________________
The battle against Pitch has just ended and everyone was in North’s workshop. Sandy was back and everyone was happy. Jack sat leaning against a window looking out. North came up to him asking, “Jack. How did you lose ability to speak?”
Jack looked at him and sat thinking whether he should show North why he can’t talk. He lifted his hands and pulled down the neck of of his turtleneck revealing the scar. North gasped in shock as he saw Jack’s scar. “Oh, Jack. I’m so sorry. I wish I could have done something. Anything.”
Jack put his hand on North’s shoulder to stop him from talking and Jack gave him an ‘It’s okay’ smile.
North continued on, “No, it’s not. You didn’t deserve this, none of it!” Jack frowned at him and decided the best way to get his message across was to hug him. Jack got on his knees and wrapped his arms around North and hugged him tight. Surprised, North stopped talking, and wrapped his arms around Jack.
Jack climbed into North’s lap and stayed there, closing his eyes. North got the message, and picked Jack up with him. Jack snuggled into North as he was picked up. Ignoring the other Guardians’ stares, he took Jack into one of the guest rooms he had in the workshop. North pulled the covers down with one hand and placed Jack onto the bed. He pulled the covers up and tucked Jack in. Jack opened his eyes and smiled at North before he went to sleep. North smiled softly and left the room.
North sat in a chair in the globe room, ignoring the Guardians and drank a glass of egg nog contentedly.
________________________
It has been a week since the battle and Jack was still at the North Pole. North didn’t mind. He loved having Jack around. He brought fun to everything he did. Even the boring things. He even helped the yetis with the toys by testing them out. Jack has been very helpful.
North found Jack in the main toy production room testing out an RC helicopter. North smiled seeing Jack’s large grin on his face. He loved to see him so happy.
“Come Jack. Walk with me.” North began walking down a hall, and Jack followed. “Jack, you enjoy staying here yes?” Jack cautiously nodded his head. “And you have always wanted a home to come back to after a long day and spend time with family, ya?” Slowly, cautiously, Jack nodded his head again. “Jack, would you like to live here with me, and be my family?” Jack smiled a really big, grand smile and jumped hugging North. “Great! I show you new room! Yetis helped decorate! Come, Jack!”
Jack followed North bouncing up and down on his feet. After what seemed like a millennia to Jack, they made it to his new room. The door itself was a pale blue and jack opened it to see what the rest was. Jack smiled in awe.
His room was painted a very pale blue with silvery white snowflakes that sparkled in the night. His bed had dark blue covers and with the same snowflake design. His dresser, bookshelf, and wardrobe was all white. Jack turned around and hugged North around the middle. North wrapped his arms around Jack as well and said, “Welcome to the family, Jack. Welcome to the family.”
