so far it had been a relatively calm, despite all loudly bright colors that blinded them in this digital hell. they managed to sneak away before caine could present today's adventure, hiding away until the other's returned.

the familiar bickering between an arrogant rabbit and ragatha, echoed through the circus. crooked head peaks out from a corner, their eyes scan side to side before they stagger out into the open. seemed almost everyone had gone off to their room by the time zooble had revealed themselves. their attention falls a blur of yellow. their eyes flicker up and down, mismatched arms folding over themselves in a lax manner.

" rough adventure ? " their tone edged in sympathy; likely already knowing what his answer would be, but still left it open ended. maybe he'll draw his own conclusion.

the most irritating thing about this entire encounter — about being around kaufmo at all, really — was that he was right. jax did let a smile peak through like a splintering crack in his carefully constructed facade. & he had spent so much time putting together all of the pieces & meticulously holding them in place. no one had managed to see through it ; he hadn’t let them. it was disconcerting the way jax let himself start to fall to pieces when they had a moment alone together. why was he having such a hard time raising his shackles back up ? they had never been so heavy before.

jax does his best to swallow the smile back down, shaking his head & hoping he doesn’t look as caught off guard as he feels.

“ yeah, well . . . don’t start getting a big head or anything. your joke was so bad it was actually startling, that’s all. why do you — care, anyway ? i’m always smiling. ”

Koa walked deep into the forest, venturing deep into its heart. The sun shone brightly, with soft rays piercing through the branches, that illuminated her path. With every step, she went further, surrounded by the cheerful songs of the birds around her and the gentle rustling of the wind going through the thicket.

Koa felt the soft earth beneath her bare feet, and every now and then, branches crunched under her weight. While most people might find it painful to walk barefoot through the forest, Koa was already accustomed to it. She was used to walking around without shoes and enjoyed the direct contact between nature and her skin.

She continued her exploration, excited to see what awaited her in this forest until she stumbled upon a small clearing, where the sound of a nearby river filled the air. Enchanted by the sight, Koa lay down in the grass and closed her eyes with a wide smile on her lips. She was so relaxed that she nearly drifted off to sleep, oblivious to the rustling in the forest as someone approached her.

they'd been reserved ever since they stopped going on adventures. correction: they were only reserved when it came to topics of the adventures, lest it result in their tormenter showing up to try and persuade them into going on them again. but the day was over, the others had come back from their adventure; they were safe for now. they probably should talk about it more; gangle might listen but... she's got enough to deal with.

zooble would be fine keeping their demons to themselves, at least for the time being.

a guilty gaze drifts off to the floor, gathering their strength to look the other's way again as they shrug. " yeah just wasn't feeling up for it today. maybe tomorrow. " don't get your hopes up though.

mix matched features relax as he explains, twisting into soft concern then finishing with odd confusion. the thought of how their adventure could've led to defending plants against zombies, doesn't last long.

" S&#! again ? that's her sixth mask in two days. " they pause, breathing a sigh. " well besides that, you guys had fun uh... fighting zombies ? "

Rough? Nah. He couldn’t say that, could he? ‘Rough’ would imply he’d had a bad time, and how could he have a bad time when he’s constantly surrounded by the friends he’s trauma-bonded with? Caine’s adventures were simply stupendous! Really, where would he be without that daily distraction? where would they all be? ‘Better to go there than insane,’ as his good friend Kinger always said. Yeah, he loved adventures almost as much as he looooved telling jokes.

He scratched the back of his head, trademark grin plastered across his face, like a kid caught with their hand in the cookie jar. “ Ha, ha—heeeey, Zoobie! We sure did miss ya today. ” there was a time when they’d regularly join in on the adventures. Kaufmo missed those days. Missed having their frequent company. But now, Zooble had become a lot more… reclusive. Kaufmo couldn’t blame them.

“ Who, me? Nawww, I had a swell time! ” Kaufmo waved off the question with a dismissive gesture, then slinked closer, his hand cupped to his mouth like he was about to share a juicy secret. “ But, uh, between you ‘n me, Gangle ain’t doin’ so hot. Poor kid’s comedy mask got broken while we were fightin’ off zombies to protect our garden patch. ”
