Alpha trion made you evacuate Iacon immediately the first big attack happened. Running with other bots, you saw some hurt and struggling. As a prince you should help them! Running back for the bots, the decepticons were coming closer. Hurrying with the bots they get shot right there and then, shocked and pained about the loss you still continued running. The last escape pod is still there! Jumping in you go into statis sleep, missing eons while you're at it. You didn't wake up when the pod opened, no no no! You woke up with a few bots surrounding you with a look like they've seen a ghost. Wait? Is that the one and only Optimus Prime?! You stood up without a word and all of them kneeled. "By the all spark, no need to kneel. I don't hold my title close to my spark. Please rise up!"

Might call you "your highness", but will not if you don't want that.

Optimus found another artifact location after doing some codes.

So, the autobot team got ready and head out. This time bringing the kids since they believe it would be safe enough.

On their way, Raphael was showing miko, Jack, and Bumblebee how they were going to the location that made the legend of the world Serpent originally came from.

They were excited, we'll miko was since shebwas hoping to see a real life serpent.

Oh, how she will know how her wish came true.

When they got close to the location, they realized how the mountain had some old ruins around it. Lost in time from the jungle around it.

While they slowly go into the ruins, they see art on the side of the ruins walls. It showed some type of creature that was fighting other giant creatures.

Raphael couldn't take pictures to figure out what they were saying since it was so badly run down from time.

When they got closer to the center of the mounting, they saw a gaint predicon laying down, covering the hole room.

It looked offline, but it was as huge as the decpticons warship. This offline predicon has been here for years since it had moss, fallen rocks, rust, and plants growing on it.

In the back of the room is the artifact. A artifact that can regenerate any cybertronian part from nothing.

The team approaches it and looks at it. More ancient text is above it, but again, it's too hard to read because of the years of erosion.

When the autobots grabbed it and started to walk away from it. It suddenly turns on, and let's go a powerful pulse that sent all the autobots back.

Once the autobots are able to get back up, the predicon body moves. Everyone stairs in disbelief as the optics of the predicon body turns on and the body starts to move.

The predicon slowly rises, debri falls while it rises. Once it's at its full height, it stairs down at the autobots.

Its mouth opens, and the most loudest and ear piercing sound comes from it. It suddenly charges a fire breath that causes the autobots to grab the artifact, kids, and run.

The fire stream follows them outside and burns the trees around the mounting temple.

The autobots wasted no time to transform and drive. In the review mirrors, they see the mountain explode and the predicon rises from it.

It roars and takes flight. It chases after them and blows fire. Burning everything. They eventually come to a cliff where there is no riffed at the bottom and no way out.

The predicon lands before them and walks toward them. They prepare for a fight.

Optimus decided to try one last option and prays for it to work.

He steps forward and with his most powerful and loud voice, he interduces himself as pptimus prime, the last of the primes.

The predicon stops and stairs. It growls and a old scratchy voice is heard from the predicon as it speaks.

"Prove it. Show me you are a prime."

So, pptimus opens his chest and shows the all spark. The predicon sees this and lowers it's head.

"Apologies for attacking you. I was only keeping the artifact safe."

Optimus asked why, and the predicon explains they were sent on earth by primus himself to portact the powerful artifical since dark times where to rise soon.

Optimus explains those dark times are the great war. The predicon understands and asks to join Optimus and his mission.

Obviously Optimus excepts. Thought, not even 3 seconds later, miko runs forward and up to the gaint predicon.

"Can you let me ride you! How much do you weigh? Have you ever fought something as big as you? How old are you? Are you a boy or a girl?"

Bullhead had to grab miko to shut her up and apologizes for mikos behavior. Though, the predicon just laughs.

"It seems humans have not changed at all in my 8000 year slumber. Hello little one. Hello to all 3 of you."

Arcee wasent on bored of (Y/N) being on the team because of them almost killing them.

Ratchet as in agreement, but optimus reminded them that they were only doing their job.

Bumblebee says they are excited since they want to ride (Y/N), which caused (Y/N) to say they aren't some creature to ride on.

This is gonna be fun.

like optimus, your bubbly attitude gives him a much needed break from the dreary duties that come with being the autobot medic

you often find yourselves working in tandem, with you sitting on the couch working on your newest project while he stands at his terminal typing away. occasionally you’ll walk over with a nervous smile, and with a roll of his optics he’ll lower a servo for you to climb into and lift you up onto the corner of the console, huffing when you chirp a thank you before the both of you quietly return to your tasks (he enjoys it, really)

while he’s not one to vent his frustrations to you, he’ll always be open to listen to you vent about yours. even if he doesn’t respond with much, he’ll offer logical solutions and observations for whatever issue you’re having

Bulkhead:

the big guy loves art, having been exposed to his fair share of it by miko, and is very encouraging when it comes to your projects

he might not get some of the nuances or meanings of the things you make, but he tries - oftentimes making you laugh a bit at the sheer amount he misses. it’s endearing though, and you appreciate the effort

too fidgety to sit and watch you do anything for too long, but he’ll offer to drive you to a vista for some inspiration while he does his usual scouting routes, miko tagging along of course. she’ll probably bring her sketchbook with her and sit next to you and draw, chattering the entire time while blasting some music from her ipod, offering you one of her earbuds

Arcee:

similar to ratchet she takes a while to get used to you, a little cold at first to your attempts at friendliness

she notices how happy you seem to make everyone else and eventually makes a legitimate pass at being friendly despite how awkward it feels

but with how eagerly you accept it she doesn’t feel as bad, sighing in relief as you immediately start filling her in on how much you’ve enjoyed your time with the autobots

she’s not much of a conversationalist (especially when it comes to humans) so your chattiness is almost a relief - not having to keep up fake interest and energy with someone puts her in a more comfortable position; especially since you’re not one to comment on it like others tend to

will sit and watch you work on whatever your newest project is, a comfortable silence shared between the two of you

rambles about random stuff from her past sometimes - you turn out to be one of the few people she trusts enough to mindlessly dump her thoughts to, both good and bad

Bumblebee:

one of the first to get to know you, overly excited about having a fresh face around

super curious when he sees you working on something, a barrage of questions translated from mechanical chirps and whirrs with the help (and annoyance) of ratchet

he’ll actually try and mimic some of your art on the walls of hidden ditches where he and rafael hang out, excitedly bringing you along to show off his latest work and buzzing happily when you praise it

will eventually, with your encouragement, try and make something original - he ends up finding it pretty soothing and an easier way to feel understood; communicating his feelings without words can be unsurprisingly helpful for someone who can’t use any of his own

you’ll spend hours hanging out and working on your stuff - he likes when you help him with his own art, adding your own brushstrokes to the concrete wall

he’ll let you sit up on his shoulder just to watch him make whatever he feels like making, or even just taking you on joyrides in the desert where he doesnt need to worry about anything going wrong

while it’s usually you, him and raf hanging out he does enjoy spending solo time with you - usually in silence or one-sided conversations, but you understand each other well enough without words

Bumblebee

Naturally Bumblebee's distrustful of any Decepticon, and can you really blame him given all his prior experiences with the cons over the course of the war? But outside of where Knockout's loyalty lies, Bumblebee will argue that he's kidnapped and hurt humans before, he's not above torture and other unethical practices, and like a majority of the other Decepticons he's selfish. He's overall a bad influence on you, and Bumblebee will try his hardest to convince you such.

Bulkhead

A lot of people were surprised he didn't get any whiplash with the way his head practically snapped when he saw you being all buddy-buddy with Breakdown. To say that he's concerned for you would be one hell of an understatement, he's struggling to keep himself from pushing you aside from his nemesis even as you try to explain that you're friends. Bulkhead knows Breakdown in a way that you don't, he knows the ugliest, most horrific side of him that you're yet to see, but he wants to keep you as far away from him as possible before you get to see it.

Wheeljack

Dreadwing has earned his respect to some degree, and Wheeljack will give him that, but he'll still hold Dreadwing's past to him and stand starkly against the two of you being friends. He'll argue that you don't understand just how dangerous Dreadwing can be, you haven't seen the stuff he's done out on the battlefield and just how many bots he's killed. He killed Seaspray, he's nearly blown Bulkhead into a billion pieces, heck--he's lost count of how many times everyone's been met with a bomb to the back because of him. Sure he's an honorable Decepticon warrior and abides by some code of chivalry or whatever, but he's still as sneaky and deceptive as any filthy con on that ship, ergo he's not friend-material and you're just too blind to see that.

Breakdown wouldn't be too impressive at first since he kind of does the same thing but sometimes he shoots his cannon from his shoulder

Breakdown is the type to let you handle things sometimes because he wants to see if you can handle some fighting on your own

He realises that you were stronger than you look

You loved to fight in close action instead of being all the way over there

You would always be the first one to get into the fights

Dodging all the autobots shooting cannons

Breakdown must of estimated you but he now has respect for you

Now you were now the bot who tags along with knockout and breakdown on missions

Shes like bulkhead but more stricter

She wouldn't trust you at first but in time she would realises that you were actually quite good at fighting in your own sense of style

Even on the battle field she would always make sure that you are still fighting the cons

Miko shone up at you from the small area the kids have on base, she stood on the couch while gazing up at you, Miko had a habit of doing that from time to time, it never troubled you personally, but it did make you wonder why she only gave you that look and not anybody else.

You raised optical ridge, “If your referring to Bumblebee then I see him as family, and if your referring to Wheeljack then I wouldn’t cross that line with you… I know how much you adore him.”

Ratchet groaned in annoyance, “Please, I can’t get anything done with that scarp yard metal around. On the contrary you seem to have a soft spot of his partner. Not that anyone but myself has noticed.”

Before you could speak Miko let out an ear piercing squeal.

Miko gasped, “Bulkhead?! You have feelings for Bulky?!”

Ratchet let out a fake cough to which you rolled your optics. “Is there something stuck in your vocalizer Ratchet? Because you’re mighty talkative for someone who’s supposed to be busy.”

Ratchet turned to fully face you now, “Oh I’m sorry, here let me just call Bulkhead for you now so you’re aware of his status on the mission since you’re ever so worried.”

“Y/N come on this is a safe space, if you have feelings for Bulky just come out and say it, there’s no shame to it,” Miko said now sitting on the couch.

You smiled as your placed your servo out for Miko to climb onto it.

Driving out of base, Miko began to play her rock music and air play the guitar as she listened to the music, after about a few minutes she paused it and stared out the window.

“Something the matter?” You asked her.

Miko shook her head, “Nah… just thinkin about something.”

“What is it?”

Miko leaned back in the seat and let out an exaggerated sigh, “Well~”

You sighed already knowing what she was thinking about. “Lemme guess about me and Bulkhead.”

“Aw come on!” Miko groans. “All those years you spent together, you’ve seriously felt nothing?”

Miko’s eye lit up with excitement, but her demeanor didn’t change. “Are you for real or are you just saying that to make me shut up?”

You sighed again, “No. I did at a point have feelings for Bulkhead.”

“Shouldn’t you be doing the same thing?” You asked stepping beside him and looking at what he was doing.

“I’m working.”

“I can see that,” you hummed turning to look at the medic. “Was the Bulkhead thing really necessary Ratchet?”

“What? And have Miko running around and talking about you and me? Absolutely not,” Ratchet huffed.

“Right…”

Ratchet stopped his work to face you. You went around him and turned off his monitor, he glared at you, “Y/N I needed that.”

“As much as you need me?” You asked moving closer to him. Ratchet stumbled for a moment then smiled shaking his helm, “Not nearly as much as I need you.”

“That’s what I thought, now Ratchet be honest with me, are jealous of Bulkhead?”

Ratchet scoffs, “As if I-“

“Ratchet.”

“Okay fine, maybe just a little… I’ve seen the way he looks at you now and I just- I don’t know…”

You place your servo on Ratchet’s chest plate and gave him a gentle smile, “He’s adorable sure but you’re the one that has my attention and that will never change Ratchet. Even if Miko annoys me until the bitter end.”

INTRODUCTION

Today you were ecstatic! You have gotten a ticket to go to a musical you have been anticipating for; for so long! You were jumping and squealing on your way there, nothing could go wrong today, nothing!!

You skipped around the pathway and quickly got to the cinema. You entered, placed your ticket in and claimed your seat in the front, middle. The show was on hold so you decided to just go on your phone, read some strange page you found on tumblr called Quirekey. Why not send in a request to waste some time?

… BAAM!! The whole crowd was blinded with a purple explosion. Debris flew across the massive room and in immediate and natural reaction, the crowd ran off. You decided to be selfless for today and quickly escorted the families next to you out. You fought off the debris and dragged people out.

The smoke dimmed and faded away and thankfully nothing else collapsed. You turned around to find more people that may need help, but all you saw was something that no human could ever imagine. What in the world… You immediately went to hide behind a chair way in the back, watching from afar.

A massive, bulky and dull green robot that had a red insignia was bringing down a smaller but still seemingly strong and pristine looking red bot that had a purple insignia. They were some sort of alien species and they were battling, the insignias must’ve indicated the teams or something. Is this normal?

A portal behind then opened behind the two and the bulky green one threw the red one in. He looked around for something then saw only you. Seemingly everyone evacuated, amazing for them, not so much for you.

“Woah, kid! We really need to bring you to safety, come on. I’ll bring you back to my base and I’ll explain more on the way.”

You were hesitant but these guys are alien robots, they looked so cool!!

“Name’s Bulkhead, hop on my hand and I’ll bring ya.”

You hopped onto his hand and you two were off to the base!

HEADCANONS

Either platonic or romantic:

- When Bulkhead introduces you to the team, they do seem tired because he got caught but are also chill with it. Though Miko was a good partner for Bulkhead, he wasn’t able to stop her from running off enough. Optimus decided to just pair you with him instead, just to test things out.

- Bulkhead is upset for a bit, he lost his rock-hardcore partner, but you are able to make up for it. You decide to show Bulkhead some of your favourite musicals and video game music. Though they don’t hit like rock, they are similar and also better in a way. It’s all bubbly and fun, a new taste for Bulkhead. Bulkhead does enjoy the new taste.

- You are also very easy-going with him. You have lots of patience with him and understand that changing partners out of nowhere is hard. You do give him space but also try to like rock yourself. He understands you are a people pleaser and insists you be yourself.

- You usually decide to just have small talk and slowly tell him about yourself every conversation. Bulkhead is comfortable with this and honestly starts to enjoy you more.

- Bulkhead will find you reading or watching a lot of mythology and fantasy. He is quite new to the concept so you like to talk about the different types of mythologies like urban legends made all around the world, Norse Mythology or maybe even Greek! Bulkhead enjoys the creepy and creative legends the Japanese people make.

Romantic only:

- Bulkhead was the first one to suggest big hugs and cuddles. He comes up behind you, picks you up and puts you into a gentle but warm grasp! You may give kisses to him too, little ones of course! Don’t wanna make your partner flustered.

- You two don’t get to hang out often since Bulkhead is the one taking the big punches in the team. So sometimes you leave little love notes in his chassis so when he finishes his battle, he can read it for motivation to keep going.

- Drawing is fun, and you like to use it on Bulkhead quite often. You like to make little doodles of you and Bulkhead just hugging or on a date. Little fantasies you have that play in your head. It’s fun to see Bulkhead blush at your little drawings, while also having trouble actually seeing it at full quality.

So, I have an idea that has been running through my head for a while now...

I imagine a young woman who works at the FBI, in the sexual crimes and murders sector. She would work in duo with a man that she call carrot, a tall guy of 1m89, with red hair and a face covered in freckles.

She would meet the bots while trying to find information about the crime of a young woman who was found dead (I'm avoiding the bad details). She would be exhausted, with dark circles on her cheeks and a pale skins, but always smiling, even if she is a little violent, and way to honest in what she is saying.

After the initial shock of seeing alien robots made of unknown metal, she would meet Agent Fowler. Who after having filled out some report, he made her become the main protector and guardian of children and bots in addition to her already exhausting work.

I guess at first she put a limit on the relationship, trying to remain professional but she quickly gave up seeing the big family they were. So slowly, she joints and became a friend, a sister or even a mother for some?

How did you end up like this? No one knows, but they don't even know you're like this. Ecxept Miko, Raf and Jack, since you know that they're friends with huge fraggin robots. When you met the bots it wasn't the best situation, because you were enraged about the events that happened at home that day. Almost engulfed in flames you calm down when you spot Miko talk to a bit bulky bot behind an abandonded building. You saw the bots which resulted in you being brought to the base. You were amazed that you could forget the sorrow you have for being different. You grew close with the team really quick, even Ratchet took a liking to you. The moment the team sees your ability for the first time was when they were cornered by cons in a energon mine. Since there was no backup at the moment you ran out and light yourself up. At first the autobots thought you were an alien or something, but when they realize it's you they didn't believe it at first. The vehicons weren't so lucky since you almost melted some of their limbs. Once the fight was done they just stared at you. "Uhh..guys? Does anyone have some spare clothes?"

Optimus Prime

He would be confused. Like literally confused which is rare, but still you managed to achieve it.

You're human and fire should hurt you. How do you light yourself on fire?!

The moment you tell them that you're a mutant and your not the only one they start to do some research on these so called "mutants"

He would ask you what you can do and what your abilities are.

Doesn't like the idea of having you on the battlefield even if it means that the autobots have the upperhand

You're now his child. No objections.

The team needs help? You're there to melt them down and that earns you a big lecture from Optimus about how they can't risk human lives.

If he's wounded you would melt the metal gently and repair it.

Since he's made of metal some of his plating might be cold. So he absolutely loves how you work like an furnace.

Almost freaked out by your abilities.

"Y/N IS ON FIRE BY THE ALL SPARK WHY IS NO ONE DOING ANYTHING"

The moment he gets to know about your so called mutation he turns into a fragging scientist. Blood samples, dna samples and etc.

Anytime there's any need for repairs he just picks you up and points where repair is needed.

He wouldn't realize his mistake until you laugh straight into his face "what's so funny? Wha- NO NOT LIKE THAT"

He would love your help in the medbay since you can mold wounds.

He didn't even know you're a human with a mutation until soundwave found footage and info about you.

Would try to get revenge on you, but doesn't want to risk losing his servo again.

For once the warlord was worried about his opponent.

The moment Megatron asked to find information about you, a switch flipped in his processor.

Finally he found a human interesting. A extraordinary human to be specific

If he had time he would try to see you on cameras so he could catch you for Megatron

He wasn't scared or anything, but would be slightly worried could you melt his screen off?

He did almost catch you, but you lit up inside him so he had to drop you out before he would fall down from the sky.

Knew that you're stronger than anybot thinks. Wouldn't mess with you unless he has something to overpower you for example: some relics

If he ever I MEAN EVER sees you in action he would definitely run away and protect his paintjob.

Would always seem busy when he heard lord Megatron talk about a mission where you could be involved.

Would ask permission from Megatron to take you as a test subject.

Be careful not to be caught by him! It would be worse than having others afraid of you and your freaky abilities.

He would love your abilities to be on flames, but! Since he's a decepticon and a predacon ofcourse he has to attack you.

TFA Bulkhead x Reader

• Heart racing, you follow the giant and shiver as you spot another of them inside the big space. Wondering if you’re going to be allowed to leave again. See the moment the other one notices you, pushing his black and gold frame away from the wall and silently approaching. Your huge chaperone, gestures at the newcomer. “I’m Bulkhead and this is Prowl.” Head tipping slightly at you, the thinner robot lays a hand on the big guy. “Bulkhead, a word?” Flashing a brittle smile at them, as the two move off to whisper about you in a corner.

• “What exactly are you doing?” Prowl asks, voice pitched low as they both glance at you. Watching you wander about, frowning. “Sari needs another human,” Bulkhead mutters, because no matter how hard they try, they’re not human. Don’t really know how to care for her. “She shouldn’t have to only have us.” Shouldn’t be isolated from other humans to spend time with them. Venting tiredly, he rubs at his helm as Prowl reluctantly nods. But Ratchet and Optimus are going to be the ones that really need convincing. And they’re not going to like more humans knowing about them.

• Stiffening when Bulkhead returns, looming over you, and gesturing for you to follow him deeper into the building. Skin prickling, you look around. There are signs that there is a kid here. A small shoe on the concrete floor. A stuffed animal tossed on a counter. How old is this kid? Nine or ten? Younger? Eyes narrowing, you hear laughter. And then he’s leading you into a new space and you spot the little girl sitting on a dirty, threadbare couch that looks like it was thieved from a street corner. And beside her, a yellow robot smaller than the other two with a controller like Sari’s in hand. “Sari?” You call out and they both look up from their video game.

• “Oh, you’re going to be in trouble,” Bumblebee sings out, laughing and sitting up straighter to grin as Sari looks from you to Bulkhead in question. And you kneel on the floor, offering Sari a completely different smile than you’d given him. A real smile that makes you seem softer. Gentler. “Can we talk a minute?” You ask her and Sari looks to him, sliding off the couch when he nods encouragingly at her. Her expression suspicious as you offer her a hand that she doesn’t take. But Sari does follow you out into the hall to talk.

• “Are you okay here? With them?” You ask and the little girl frowns up at you. “With my family?” She counters and some of your tension eases. Because she doesn’t seem frightened or intimidated by them. Family, though? What exactly happened for her to end up with them? Is she homeless? “When’s the last time you’ve had a hot meal?” You ask and her expression becomes guarded. “They feed me,” she says, skinny arms crossing as her chin lifts. Enough, though? Want to pry and ask more questions, but the little girl’s expression is defiant.

• Straightening as you return and then walk right past him, Bulkhead trails behind you. “You’re not going to help?” He asks and you look at him over your shoulder. That open smile is gone again, face blank as you stare up at him. “I’m going to go get groceries,” you say and he follows you to the door and watches you disappear out into the street. Hoping you’ll actually come back.

Raphael convinced the team to let him bring his sister to the base. Since they are getting suspicious and getting to close to finding out what happened so they agreed as long as they keep it a secret about meeting them.

Raphael agreed but when he brought them the next day, his sister looked at him and at the team and just said "Meh, I was thinking this is what you're hiding." Whitch threw Raphael off since this is not the reaction he was expecting.

The team explains that they have actually met Raphaels sister. A long time ago, they helped them when they were still new to earth.

They met (Y/N) when she was still young (Since this happened before Raphael was born and I'm making his sister older)

They are glad they are back and welcomed (Y/N) back. Though, (Y/N) was very sad to learn tailgate was killed since they where close to them.

They also welcomed UltraMagnus and smokescreen. Greeting them and telling them all the stories they had with the autobots before they joined.

After (Y/N) came by, he welcomed her and talked to them like old times.

Telling them what happened, asking them what happened with them, what changed, any new mates, etc.

He will also make himself or ratch guardian of them since he wants them to stay.

Ratchet was having mixed feelings.

When he initially met you, your height certainly helped to make you stand out from all the other humans he's seen (which isn't many), however it wasn't enough. It's like seeing a large, blue marble in a pile of smaller blue marbles. Strange, but not surprising or interesting for long, and eventually it becomes just something that happens to be that way. Once the initial intrigue wore off, he thought that would be that, yet he was wrong.

Your abilities and skills proved to be rather impressive, and he surmised that were you not human, but rather a cybertronian among his ranks your skill would surpass even the skill of some of the more elite vehicons among their ranks. Despite your circumstances, you managed to overcome the unthinkable, and as such you rightfully earned his respect.

Megatron doesn't see scars as anything ugly or shameful, he sees them as medals of valor—as signs that you survived something that tried to take your life, and he believes that's something to be proud of. His love for you goes deeper than superficial appearances, after all you have earned his respect and admiration with more than just your looks. So of course he wouldn't think any less of you, scars or no scars.

Arcee

She initially never thought much of how you always hid your face. If anything, she just assumed it was part of your uniform and since you were busy with work a majority of the time she figured that's the reason you kept it on so often. Granted, she's heard the kids talk about it and theorize why you wear it so much that it's gotten her the slightest bit interested (and amused at their theories).

Scars can be ugly things, she understands that well. And not just ugly in the sense that they can be disturbing to look at but rather in reference to the deeper, more complicated feelings surrounding them as well as how they got there in the first place. It'll forever mar your body, and depending on what caused it, that scar could haunt you both physically and mentally. She can understand your feelings surrounding your own scars, believe her, she has many of her own that she has complicated feelings around.

But though you're covered head to toe in scars, she'd truthfully tell you that they do not change the way she feels about you in the slightest. She doesn't find them repulsive or disgusting since she can sympathize with the pain surrounding your scars.

Bulkhead

Given the fact the two of you happen to share similar experiences, it wasn't difficult for a sense of camaraderie and friendship to grow rather fast (though it could've happened the same way regardless of whether he knew about your background or not). Whether you were fond of sharing accounts of your previous battles or not, Bulkhead was certainly one to tell a tale of his own experiences.

The way he recounted the tale with descriptive, and riveting words made it easy to forget the fact he was telling a tale about a bloody war he experienced first-hand. But as time grew on, these tales slowly transitioned from stories about the war to stories about his life before it happened. His experiences in construction, silly happenstances that he looks back upon fondly, and old friends that are likely long gone.

It's ironic, you'd think he'd be happier to speak about times before the war and yet it's only harder for him. It's clear in the way he seems to begin to trail off, and loose his train of thought as he reminisces over what he had, and how things used to be.

His view of his scars starkly contrasts your own. He views scars as something to boast—something to be proud of—something that shows that he leapt into something ugly and beat, shot, punched, and smashed his way out of it to walk away to tell the tale. The way he sees it, those scars are a sign that you survived to be here with him today, and he wouldn't have you any differently.

Perhaps as the two of you bond, his own way of thinking about his scars begins to rub off on you too, and you start to see these scars in a different light. With each compliment he gives you in passing from day to day, the sadness or shame once associated with them grows smaller in comparison to the swelling newfound sense of pride.
