RUN FROM THE SPOTLIGHT (PART 1)

Pairing : Lando Norris x Reader
Daniel Ricciardo x Platonic!reader
TW : Sexual Assault (not detailed but engage at your own risk)⚠️
Words - 3k
The rain in Paris was relentless, a silver curtain that blurred the city’s edges and soaked Y/N to the bone as she stood outside Matteo Rossi’s atelier. Her umbrella sagged, dripping onto the uneven cobblestones, her pulse a staccato against her ribs. His text had been a command disguised as an invite: New campaign. Tonight. My suite. Don’t disappoint. She’d hesitated—Matteo’s vibe had soured lately—but the gig was too lucrative, and he’d been her ladder to the top since she was a raw nineteen-year-old with a cheap portfolio and big dreams.
The suite was a cocoon of dim light and luxury, the air heavy with his cologne and the faint musk of leather furniture. Matteo greeted her with a glass of red wine, his silver hair glinting, his grin sharp as a blade. “Cara mia,” he said, pressing the glass into her hand. “You’re late.”
“Rain,” she muttered, setting the drink aside. “Can we start?”
He smirked, gesturing to a rack of gowns—bold, shimmering things that screamed his name. She stepped into the first, a deep sapphire piece that clung like water, and he circled her, his gaze a physical weight. She’d weathered his flirtations before—“You’re my muse, Y/N”—but tonight, his eyes stripped her bare in a way that churned her stomach.
“Exquisite,” he said, too close, his fingers grazing her collarbone. “Though I’d argue you’re wasted in clothes.”
She flinched, masking it with a tight smile. “Let’s keep this professional, Matteo.”
His laugh was low, predatory. “Oh, cara, we’re past that.” He stepped in, his hand sliding to her hip, then lower, and the room tilted. She pushed him back, firm but civil—“Stop it”—but he didn’t budge. The click of the lock registered too late; he’d bolted the door when she wasn’t looking. Panic surged as he shoved her against the sofa, his bulk pinning her, his breath sour with wine.
“Get off!” she yelled, clawing at his face, nails drawing blood. He cursed, recoiling just enough for her to twist free, her blouse tearing as she lunged for the door. She fumbled the lock open, his voice slicing through her escape.
“Run all you like,” he said, holding up his phone. The screen glowed—a shaky video of her struggling, half-undressed, his shadow looming. “Talk, and this buries you. Your pretty racer boy, your little F1 brother? Gone.”
She stumbled into the storm, the rain washing away tears she didn’t let fall, the video a shackle she couldn’t break.
Milan’s charity gala was a fever dream of light and sound, the runway a polished stage where Y/N moved like a phantom. Matteo’s emerald gown hugged her frame, its fabric a silent taunt of that night. The crowd—dripping in wealth and good intentions—cheered, blind to the tremor in her hands, the fragility of her smile. She was still their “Heart of the Runway,” but the heart was cracking.
Lando Norris slouched in the fifth row, his McLaren cap pulled low, his tie a crumpled mess. He’d flown from Spa to Milan on a whim, chasing the spark of her—his girlfriend of thirteen months, the girl who’d steal his hoodies and mock his driving over late-night calls. She’d been off lately, a shadow creeping into her texts, her laughter dimming. Tonight, her glance slid past him, empty, and his chest tightened.
“She’s not herself,” he said to Daniel Ricciardo, who lounged beside him, twirling a straw in his drink.
Daniel squinted, studying her. “She’s smashing it, mate. What’s your glitch?”
“No wink. No nothing. She’s… gone.”
“Probably knackered,” Daniel said, shrugging. “Our sis has been grinding—charity gigs, fittings, the lot.”
Backstage, Y/N peeled off the gown, her skin prickling where Matteo’s eyes had lingered. He’d hovered, all charm and menace—“You’re radiant, cara”—and she’d nodded, mute, fleeing to her hoodie like it was armor. Lando and Daniel waited in the hall, their voices a tether to a life she was losing. Lando pulled her into a hug, his warmth a balm she couldn’t keep, and she pressed her face to his chest, memorizing him.
“You good?” he asked, his lips brushing her hair.
“Yeah,” she lied, the word ash in her mouth. “Just tired.”
Daniel mussed her hair, grinning. “You’re a legend, Y/N. Food? I’m buying.”
“Next time,” she said, stepping back. “Promise.”
Lando’s eyes lingered, worried, but he let her go. She walked to her hotel alone, the echo of Matteo’s threat a drumbeat in her skull. In her room, she locked the door, slid down the wall, and let the sobs rip free—silent, shuddering, a storm she’d held too long.
The fracture spread slow and deep. Matteo’s presence was a virus—his hands brushing her at fittings, his whispers a constant blade: “Keep quiet, or they all see.” She played along, smiled for cameras, but the mirror betrayed her—gaunt cheeks, eyes like bruises. Lando’s texts piled up—Miss you. You sure you’re okay?—and she’d dodge with emojis, her voice too brittle to call. Daniel’s FaceTimes went to voicemail, her excuses flimsy: Busy. Swamped. Soon.
Paris haunted her, a wound festering. Then, a week before Milan, the nausea hit—sharp, relentless, blamed on nerves until a test in her London flat showed two blue lines. Pregnant. The truth landed like a punch, stealing her air. Matteo’s face flashed—his hands, his sneer—and revulsion mixed with something softer, fiercer. This baby was hers, not his—a boy, she decided, picturing dark hair like hers, a life untainted. She couldn’t end it, couldn’t punish him for her scars. Her savings, fat from years of runways, could buy a new beginning. She’d run, shield him, start clean.
Milan was her farewell. She walked that runway with a ghost’s grace, her decision made. Back home, she packed a duffel—clothes, cash, a burner phone—sold her flat in a blur, and smashed her old life to pieces. Her final text to Lando was a knife twist: I can’t do this anymore. I’m sorry. Don’t call. She burned every bridge and disappeared into the night.
Lando’s Miami hotel room was a cage of silence, the Grand Prix’s roar muted by the text searing his screen. I can’t do this anymore. I’m sorry. Don’t call. He stared, willing it to shift, to explain itself. He called—voicemail, cold and final. Texts died, undelivered. By dusk, her digital footprint vanished—Instagram, Twitter, gone. Her number was a dead line. He sank onto the bed, hands shaking, the world unmoored.
Daniel stormed in, summoned by Lando’s broken voice. “What’s happening?”
“She’s gone,” Lando said, throat raw. “Dumped me. Vanished.”
Daniel scrolled their last chat—her ribbing him about a karting fail, five days back. “This isn’t her. She doesn’t ditch us.”
“She did.” Lando flung his phone, a Silverstone photo glaring up—her in his cap, laughing, him nuzzling her neck. “She’s been fading, Dan. I missed it.”
Daniel paced, digging through memories. “Monaco—she barely ate, kept twitching at every sound. Said she was fine when I pushed.”
“Paris,” Lando rasped. “She came back hollow. Wouldn’t talk. I let it slide.”
They clawed for answers. Her agency offered fluff: Y/N’s on a break. Her flat was sold, the landlord mute. Friends were baffled, some stung by her silence. The internet spun tales—Lando’s affair! Her secret fling!—but they rang hollow. She wasn’t running to someone; she was running from something.
Daniel unearthed a text, weeks old: Matteo’s a sleaze. Too grabby lately. Lando’s blood iced. “Him?”
“Could be,” Daniel said, jaw tight. “She’d hide it if it was ugly. Protect us.”
Lando stood, fury and fear coiling. “We’re finding her. She’s out there, broken, and I’m not losing her.”
St. Ives was a jagged edge of Cornwall, cliffs biting the sea, the town a tangle of stone and salt. Y/N landed there, her platinum hair dyed chestnut, cropped short, her runway poise swapped for a slouch in thrift-store coats. Her savings bought a cottage—peeling paint, creaking floors, hers. A job at “Pages & Pints,” a bookshop with a beer tap, paid the rest—quiet, cash-under-the-table work stacking novels and pouring pints.
Three months in, her belly swelled, a boy kicking beneath her ribs. She named him Finn, after a fisherman’s tale she’d read, a nod to the sea that hid her. She’d forged a brittle peace—tea at sunrise, walks where the wind drowned her thoughts. Matteo’s video loomed, a guillotine he could drop, but here, in this nowhere, it felt distant. She’d left Lando’s voice, Daniel’s warmth, her old self, to save Finn from her ruin.
Nights carved her hollow—dreams of Lando’s touch, Daniel’s grin, waking to a cold bed. A McLaren sticker on a tourist’s bag would jolt her, grief slicing fresh. But Finn was her anchor, his tiny heartbeat her reason. She’d stay lost, a ghost with a purpose, and they’d never find her.

The Ostrichmonkey Hack
Hey, its out!
Behold, the Basic Rules iteration of my personal NSR/OSR ruleset.
This ruleset came to life when I needed something to run an Into the Cess & Citadel campaign, and decided to take a stab at cobbling something together. It ended up being a mix of different N/OSR conventions I liked, plus some other twists to fit my own personal preferences.
Fundamentally, its a "roll under your attribute" system, and should be broadly compatible with your favorite NSR/OSR/minimalist rulesets and adventures. Made with fantasy-adventure stuff in mind, but with some bending, could probably be made to work with other genres.
So let's get into what's inside.
This first release covers the Basic Rules;
Classless character creation
Rolling the dice
Items
Characters have no defined class, and are made up of a Knack and a Domain. Knacks cover any special abilities and skill you might have, and are activated by spending attribute points (and typically circumvent rolling the dice - spend the points and do the thing!). Knacks are specifically inspired by how Whitehack's Wise class casts "miracles". Domains are broad fields of knowledge and understanding.
Like I said, rolling the dice involves rolling under your attribute score, but there is also a way to apply full/mixed successes to a roll. These rules also cover things like combat. Enemies are immune to damage unless you can target a weakness, meaning that the bulk of combat is about trying to discover and exploit an enemy's weakness.
For the items section of the ruleset, I ended up adapting some of the mechanics I'm developing for Stampede Wasteland, specifically the abstracted resources and money. Gear is also one of the main ways you can change your stats by altering everything from HP to your attributes.
The long term plan for this ruleset is to continuously update and tinker with it, adding in extra subsystems, mechanics, and whatever else I feel is interesting at the time. There's no set schedule for this, so expect updates eventually and whenever.
Right now, you can pick up a text only version of the Basic Rules, which will always remain free (scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the demo files, including character sheet), and then the paid files will be getting the major updates.
First planned update is to finish up the Archetype rules to introduce a class system that can replace or be used alongside knacks. So look for that down the road.
Anyways, go check it out!

Microsoft Cyber Attack Assessment of the I/P Conflict
This was sent my way by a cyber security colleague recently. Microsoft put out an assessment of cyber attacks associated with the I/P conflict and determined that the IRI has had a massive hand in them. Yes we know Russian bots are present whenever this type of conflict happens, but to have a full breakdown of what IRI backed groups (government and non-government) are actively spreading misinformation and committing attacks is good to know. I find this chart particularly interesting.
Fig. 1. Chart depicting the various active cyber groups and their personas online. Cotton Sandstorm is the most active group and if you look on the far right of the chart you will see that they have Jewish Peace Advocate listed as one of their online personas. The report indicates that there are active IRI cyber groups masquerading as Jews and/or Jewish groups online and spreading misinformation (keep in mind this report is from February 2024 and we don't have a public report regarding the continued cyber attacks and misinformation campaign). From the report:
During this phase, Iran’s influence activity used more extensive and sophisticated forms of inauthentic amplification. In the first two weeks of the war, we detected minimal advanced forms of inauthentic amplification—again suggesting operations were reactive. By the third week of the war, Iran’s most prolific influence actor, Cotton Sandstorm, entered the scene launching three cyber-enabled influence operations on October 21. As we often see from the group, they used a network of social media sockpuppets to amplify the operations, though many appeared to be hastily repurposed without authentic covers disguising them as Israelis. On multiple occasions Cotton Sandstorm sent text messages or emails in bulk to amplify or boast about their operations, leveraging compromised accounts to enhance authenticity.
...
Iran’s targeting of Israel during the Israel-Hamas war has increasingly focused on stoking domestic conflict over the Israeli government’s approach to the war. Multiple Iranian influence operations have masqueraded as Israeli activist groups to plant inflammatory messaging that criticizes the government’s approach to those kidnapped and taken hostage on October 7.17 Netanyahu has been a primary target of such messaging, and calls for his removal were a common theme in Iran’s influence operations.
...
There's a lot to the report and I highly recommend you read it. Hopefully another one comes out, apparently these are biannual, this summer with a spring time assessment. Please keep in mind that this war has had a ton of propaganda and bad actors masquerading as good ones. There's so much misinformation out there regarding Israel and Jews that is being amplified by people who want us dead, and when we point this out we're quickly silenced. But more and more the evidence supports the idea that manipulation and misinformation is playing a larger role.
And we told you.

Hey, I've read your Principles of Communism, and I think it's a really cool and sorely needed initiative, especially in the imperial core, so much, in fact that it inspired me to do the same in my native language, French.
I have a couple of doubts about what to put in my edition, since I want to tailor it for a local reach rather than an international one like yours, and I wanted to ask you for your opinion on the subject:
In Question 18, railroad magnates and shipowners are used as examples of groups that will be expropriated. However, in my country, those two are pretty much absent from public consciousness, especially since railroads have only been very recently privatized. I've been thinking about replacing it with a more, for lack of a better word, relevant occupation to connect better with my intended audience, but I'm not sure what else is equivalent. Do you have any idea on the matter ?
In Question 23, do you think it might be wise to occult the eventual disparition of existing religions in communist society if one aims to agitate in marginalized communities where oppressed religions are a federating force ?
In a more local context, do you think the more general analysis in Question 25 is still more valuable than an application of Engels' reasoning to relevant local parties ?
Thank you for your excellent work !
I'm so glad the booklet has inspired you!! (And to be clear also, I only desrve credit for the printing initiative--the bulk of the editing was done by comrade @libertineangel.) Regardless, I will do my best to answer your questions, with the caviat that I am ill-equipped to speak to the needs of the French readership specifically.
For Question 18, you raise an interesting point. I would keep railroad magnates and ship owners in the text, as they are services which do need to be promptly socialized, even if they don't weigh as heavy in popular consciousness. I do think that for the modern context though, it would probably be good to add tech entrepreneurs to the list, both from a practical and propagandistic perspective.
For Qestion 23, I understand the concern but I am very much opposed to obscuring communist positions for the purpose of mass appeal. I don't think that we should be campaigning on the disolusion of religion per se, but when asked about it I do think that we should be honest. If someone is genuinely curious about communism, then it should be a point of conversation rather than immediate dismissal. That being said, you could perhaps change it to "disparition of existing religions as political institutions" if you are really concerned.
For Question 25, I do think that a more direct appraisal of local political parties would be valuable--if you have experience in communist organizing to speak from. Recall that Engels' judgements were not simply his own estimations, but a summary of the experiences of Communist League members across Europe. An account of the political parties grounded in practical experience is probably more valuable than the general reasoning, but the general reasoning is probably more valuable than an account based on pure observation. Of course, Idk your position here, so it's up to you and your irl comrades to make that estimation!

Our goal is $9,000 to win the auction and pay for transportation of the masks from VA to mask blocs across the country.
These include mask blocs in DC, Northern Southern and Central Virginia, New Orleans, St. Louis, and Champaign Urbana, New York City, Kansas City, Tulsa, Knoxville, Long Island and more.
Currently, a pallet of 12,000 KN95 masks is 200 dollars each. We are aiming to buy as many pallets as possible and deliver them to whoever wants them! If you want to support but can't contribute, consider sharing this to your socials.

"We’ve made contact with the seller, and they’ve agreed to sell them directly at $200/palette!
By buying directly instead of through the auction, we will definitely be getting these masks. The only question is how many.
The more money we raise, the more palettes we can buy, and the more transportation we can pay for to get these masks to communities across the country!
ALMOST HALFWAY THERE!!! LETS GOOO!!!! Thank you all for your support, sharing and contributions. Speaking on behalf of all of the organizers, we are so stoked that this campaign is going well and about how many masks we are going to be able to get. Thank you!!!

What is an SMS Marketing Campaign? A Beginners Guide
An SMS marketing campaign typically involves sending a targeted text message to a group of subscribers who have opted in to receive communications. Businesses usually use specialised platforms to manage contacts, craft messages, schedule dispatches, and monitor campaign performance. Messages can be promotional, such as offering discounts and special deals, or transactional, like confirming an appointment or updating delivery statuses. Because SMS messages are short and direct, they require a clear and concise communication style to be effective.

...The last time I drew Gladiia was over a month ago, huh. I will fix that. My love for this character hasn't gone anywhere.
I feel like I need to refocus when it comes to Arknights and my creative output. I'll spare you the bulk of the complaining I did on Twitter, but the short of it is that I'm feeling pretty unsatisfied with my current mode of engagement with the game and its community. I was riding a high for a while off of the stories I enjoyed, and after very much not enjoying Path of Life and being cautious at best about developments in the main story, that momentum has really petered out. I have some real grievances with the direction Arknights as a story is and has been going. I'm not going to stop playing AK anytime soon, but the honeymoon period that's lasted since I started playing shortly after Under Tides has pretty decidedly come to a close. I'm still willing to make this marriage work, but the butterflies stopped a while ago.
I tried to grab some momentum again by distancing myself from the source material and embracing a little delusion with the crackships, but I found I can't keep that energy. I am horribly addicted to yuri, but I need my yuri to be reinforced by actual stories. I tried writing one of those stories, but I couldn't get myself to finish it. I realized, if I'm putting in this much creative effort to make something work, I'd sooner just use that energy to write stories for my campaigns. I might continue the Gladiia x Woman crackship series sporadically, but I make no promises.
Instead, I think I'll go back and reread all of the Abyssal Hunters material. That will probably take a while, at my current pace, but looking at the stories with a new perspective might give me some new ideas. I'd like to engage with these things on a text-first mindset instead of a ship-first one, and...maybe I'll have different ideas of these characters and their dynamics once I'm done.
I know I have a tendency to say I'll do things that I end up either putting off for a while or just not doing at all. I will try to do that Path of Life analysis I promised nearly a fucking year ago, at least. No promises about a time frame, but this gives me an opportunity. As I'm rereading things, I'll probably take some notes, and maybe post my impressions here if I thought anything was noteworthy.
I'll try to do some more Arknights art than I've been doing. Like I said, I love this character still, even if I'm now anxious about what Hypergryph will do with her.

Okay but jokes and trolling around aside, what kinda writing would that be exactly? Isn't the game clearly introducing us to Grace and her mother, isn't that what the story is going to revolve around the most? Why would capcom just decide to throw in "here's your secret dad, Grace! Forget your mom and all the trauma you've endured" IF she's dead in the first place.
Why does Leon, the most popular RE character have to be related to this one character that we are supposed to care about and her story? And they'll just thrown it in that he had an off screen relation to an outbreak character we never even saw him interact with up to this point? That's such an illogical and dumb writing from my perspective. And he's already going to steal all the spotlight by just being a playable and present character in this game yet we don't even know 100% if he's going to be in there, we only have leaks.
I don't know, but if that really does end up the case, then i don't know what could capcom possibly do to make it make sense and be likeable. Shipping aside because that's the least of my worries and care.
There's also the interview of the devs on 26th so there could be more information on the way but either way, this would be one of those twists that would really kill the hype for me and who knows how other players might react to this about their fan favorite.
Sorry for the long text drop, i just had to share this.... i guess.
i'm... really confused by this ask and by your perspective, to be perfectly honest with you.
>isn't that what the story's going to be about the most?
ABSOLUTELY NOT, and i have NO IDEA why you would think that. do you honestly think that capcom has shown everything that there is to know about the story in just a 3 minute long trailer that they've released 8 months prior to the game coming out? you really think that there's not going to be anything more? it's just going to be an 8-month marketing campaign about the same thing over and over and over again?
the story of grace and her mom is probably going to be the SMALLEST PART of RE9. that's how marketing works. you show off as little as you can possibly get away with at the start, and then you start piling up other, more surprising reveals as the game gets closer and closer to release in order to build hype up to a fever pitch so that people actually go out and buy the game.
if they showed everything all at once right out of the gate, why the fuck would ANYONE stay engaged with it for eight whole months until the game's release? we would just... know everything already, and people would lose interest as they get distracted by other things, and then people wouldn't buy the game months and months away from now.
like... RE7's reveal was about lucas torturing a guy and then infected!mia came out being crazy and violent. ethan wasn't even included in that initial reveal. that is not AT ALL what RE7 ended up being. sure, lucas and mia were both in it, and both of those things about them were featured, but they were hardly the focal point of that game -- let alone the main bulk of it.
like... geez, no. the grace & alyssa story is very, very likely to just be the set-up for the wider plot. it will not be the wider plot.
>why does Leon have to be related to Grace in order for us to care about her story?
he doesn't. no one ever said that he has to be. idk where you got that from. it's just an avenue that they could take.
>they'll just throw in his relationship with Alyssa?
no one ever said that they'd just "throw it in." ideally, it'll be done in a way that's thoughtful and feels organic.
>Leon's going to steal the spotlight
HE'S THE MAIN CHARACTER. IT'S HIS SPOTLIGHT TO TAKE.
>idk how Capcom could make it make sense or be likeable
well when you're assuming that they're just going to "throw it in" there, then i could see how you'd have that worry, yeah.
>it would kill the hype for me
THERE IS NOT A SINGULAR FUCKING CHANCE IN HELL THAT THEY REVEAL THIS PLOT POINT DURING PRE-RELEASE MARKETING. if it is real, i'm sure that they know that it's going to be contentious. they know it's going to split the fanbase. they will NEVER reveal it pre-release. it will stay buried in an underground vault until the game comes out -- specifically for that reason.
because it's one of those things that lives or dies based on how they do it -- which means that people need to see how they do it. the thought of it conceptually might be abhorrent to a lot of fans. but actually having it revealed organically and seeing it put into practice might leave people coming away from beating the game going "that was really good."
just fuckin relax, man.
you guys are wound way too tight about all this.

Sonder - everyone around you has their own point of view, experiences that they reference, and beliefs. Unless it's hate speech or another form of violence or discrimination, leave other people alone. Someone can absolutely find something you think is beautiful to be ugly, and vice versa. It doesn't make them, in any way, less than you.
A good day doesn't need to be one without conflict. It can be a day where you fall and get up again, or you learn how to better tolerate other ways of thinking and doing.
Believe in yourself.
Believe in each other.
This is hopefully established higher up, but no lectures are welcome here. Thoughtfully sharing 'In my own experience, " is great, but for instance telling a disabled person (even if you are one as well) that their experience is incorrect or wrong because it is different from yours (speaking as an autistic who really likes the character of Carl, for instance, when many people just complain about him) is completely unwelcome here and will earn a block.
'Old Arthur' vs 'New Arthur' debates are not welcome here. I'm so old that to me, 'old Arthur' is only the original season, and everything after is new. Some of the newer animation sucked. And some episodes (including older ones) aren't great. But at the end, the animation improved and the bulk were some very good episodes. If you are not willing to give that a chance, or tolerate people who find good and joy or education in it, that's a you problem and not for you to hate on posts or people for. In other words? It's a kids show, please get over it.
I am disabled. I am creating this blog to share something I love but mainly for myself, but these days am very ill and struggling with many basic tasks. I am acknowledging that I am limited in my capacity and will generally not be including descriptive texts, etc. However, if anyone feels up to it, they are welcome to include them.
Arthur is a kids' show and this blog will naturally attract younger people. I will try and keep posts clean, but as a full adult several times over, I may swear or invoke other adult topics or mentions, and can't control what people do in reblogs. Please be warned.
There will be no politics here-politics meaning the active campaigning for or against politicians or governments. On an Arthur tumblr blog, it would do no good-much as I know the broader tumblr population really would love to believe the opposite. However, there will absolutely be mentions of war, countries, voting, enslavement, empowerment, disability, queerness, and many other things that many people believe are 'political.' My beliefs on these topics, as well as 'Arthur''s as a show, should be self-evident. These are facts of the world we live in and are an integral part of the show, which is based in education. Please be warned.
