8 Built In Wardrobes for Large Families
Managing storage for a large family can often feel like an insurmountable task. From overflowing closets to the constant shuffle of shoes, jackets, and accessories, it can quickly become overwhelming to keep everything in order. In homes with multiple family members, ensuring that everyone has enough space for their belongings without sacrificing organisation or style is a challenge many homeowners face. This is where built in wardrobes come to the rescue. Built in wardrobes Sydney offer an efficient and tailored solution to a family's storage needs, seamlessly integrating into your home and providing a custom fit for clothes, shoes, accessories, and even shared items. These storage systems maximise space, minimise clutter, and can be designed to accommodate every family member’s unique needs. Whether you have young children who need easy access to their clothing or teenagers who need personalised space for their growing wardrobes, a built in wardrobe can be the key to an organised, harmonious home. 1. Multi-Level Hanging Spaces for Versatility
A wardrobe with multi-level hanging rods is one of the best ways to maximise vertical space in a built in wardrobe. For large families, this system offers flexibility and organisation. Hang long garments like dresses or coats on the top rods, while shorter clothing like shirts, pants, and jackets can be stored on the lower rods for easy access. For younger children, lower rods make it easier for them to hang and retrieve their clothes independently. Additionally, adding multiple levels means you can store seasonal items or extra jackets up top while keeping the family’s daily essentials at eye level. This solution works well for large families because it gives each member a designated area to store their clothing without it becoming a jumbled mess. With a little planning, you can ensure that everyone has enough space for their wardrobe, and the family closet remains organized throughout the year. 2. Pull-Out Drawers for Kids’ Clothes
When it comes to children’s clothing, it’s crucial to have a system that’s both easy to use and functional. Pull-out drawers inside the built in wardrobe are a fantastic way to organise kids' clothes in a way that’s both practical and accessible. These drawers are perfect for storing items like socks, underwear, pajamas, and small accessories. They also help keep everything in its place, reducing the chance of clothes being tossed around the room. For even more efficiency, consider having each drawer labelled by name or type of clothing, such as "t-shirts," "shorts," or "seasonal wear." This simple labelling system not only helps children learn to keep their things organised but also empowers them to independently retrieve their own clothes. Parents will also appreciate how these drawers keep kids' belongings out of sight and neatly tucked away. 3. Corner Wardrobes for Maximising Space
In a family home, every square inch of space is valuable, and corner wardrobes are an excellent way to take advantage of unused corners. A custom-built corner wardrobe can fit seamlessly into awkward spaces that would otherwise be wasted. These wardrobes can feature shelves, hanging rods, and drawers designed to store items that are frequently accessed, like shoes, handbags, or accessories. Using corner space efficiently in a built in wardrobe helps free up valuable wall space for other uses. By incorporating rotating shelves, pull-out systems, or corner-specific shelving, a wardrobe can become a highly functional storage solution that keeps the family’s clothing and personal items well-organised and easily accessible. 4. Open Shelving for Shared Family Items
In larger families, it’s common for certain items to be shared among household members—think towels, blankets, linens, and seasonal accessories. Open shelving in a built in wardrobe is an ideal solution for these shared items. Unlike traditional closed storage, open shelving allows for easy access to frequently used items without having to rummage through drawers or closets. For a neat and uniform look, use matching baskets or bins to store small items like scarves, hats, and gloves. You can also dedicate shelves to family bedding and towels, ensuring that everyone in the household knows where to find and return these shared items. The open shelving approach is especially helpful for large families where time is often limited, and the ability to grab what’s needed quickly is a major convenience. 5. Integrated Shoe Storage to Avoid Clutter
Shoes can quickly become one of the most cluttered areas of a home, especially in large families where everyone has their own pair (or multiple pairs!). A built in wardrobe with dedicated shoe storage is the key to keeping footwear organised. Whether you choose adjustable shelves, pull-out drawers, or a rotating carousel, shoe storage that’s integrated into the wardrobe keeps your family’s shoes out of sight and in good condition. An organised shoe storage system ensures that everyone in the family has a place to keep their shoes without them piling up by the door or under the bed. A rotating carousel or tiered shelves can also make it easier to see all your footwear options at once, saving time when you're getting ready for the day. For families with kids, low shelves or bins make shoes easily accessible, even for the little ones. 6. Integrated Mirrors for Efficient Getting Ready
In large families, there’s often a rush in the mornings when everyone is getting dressed and ready for the day. Integrated mirrors in built in wardrobes can be a game-changer, providing the whole family with ample space to check their outfits and get ready without overcrowding the bathroom. Consider adding full-length mirrors to the wardrobe doors or even building mirrored panels inside the wardrobe. Mirrors not only allow family members to assess their outfits, but they also help create the illusion of more space within the room. In a shared wardrobe setup, full-length mirrors can prevent everyone from fighting for bathroom time, and they add a sense of light and airiness to the entire room. 7. Sliding Doors for Space-Saving
When space is limited, especially in smaller bedrooms or shared family spaces, sliding doors can be a highly efficient choice for built in wardrobes. Unlike traditional hinged doors, which require extra space to swing open, sliding doors move effortlessly along tracks and open with minimal effort. This feature is especially useful in bedrooms shared by siblings or in homes where room size is at a premium. Sliding doors allow the wardrobe to blend seamlessly into the room without intruding on the available floor space. With smooth, quiet operation, sliding doors provide easy access to all of the wardrobe’s contents while maintaining a clean, sleek look. Additionally, sliding doors can be customised with mirrors or frosted glass, adding both function and style. 8. Personalised Storage for Every Family Member
The beauty of a built in wardrobe is that it can be tailored to the unique needs of each family member. Whether you’re designing for adults, teens, or children, personalised storage compartments help ensure that everyone has a space that fits their clothing and accessories. Parents may need extra hanging space for suits and dresses, while children might require lower shelving and compartments for toys or sports equipment. By customising the built in wardrobe with sections for each family member’s clothing, shoes, and accessories, you can prevent overcrowding and ensure that everyone has ample storage. As children grow, the wardrobe can easily be adjusted to accommodate their changing storage needs, making it a flexible and lasting investment. For large families, having personalised spaces is key to maintaining organisation and making sure everyone’s belongings are easy to access.

Loft bedroom fitted wardrobe. This was a fitted wardrobe with a twist. The client wanted doors next to the wardrobe to cover up a corner that can only really be used for storing boxes or crates. Putting doors over that makes a lot of sense. 170 degree hinges were needed to allow access when the doors to that corner is open. www.straightcut.biz #builtinwardrobe #fittedfurniture #bespokedesign #bespokefurniture #carpentry #bedroomwardrobes #beckenham #wardrobe #storage #storageideas (at Beckenham, Bromley, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca_sh-JgQoG/?utm_medium=tumblr

In 2024, bedroom design is all about combining functionality with aesthetic appeal. The latest trends focus on creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also practical, offering ample storage without compromising on style.
built-in wardrobes that maximize storage while blending seamlessly into your bedroom's design. Whether it's a modern minimalist look or something more traditional, built-in storage solutions are key to keeping your space organized and stress-free.
Incorporate multifunctional furniture like beds with built-in drawers or headboards with hidden shelves. These pieces are perfect for smaller spaces, ensuring that every inch of your bedroom is utilized efficiently.
Solid wood furniture, especially in oak, ash, and walnut, continues to dominate in 2024. These materials bring warmth and a sense of nature into the bedroom, creating a calming environment perfect for relaxation.
Sustainability is more than a trend—it's a lifestyle choice. Opt for furniture made from sustainably sourced wood and eco-friendly materials. Not only does this support the environment, but it also adds a timeless quality to your bedroom.
