Oh, and Hestia and 11 for Harry Potter asks!
11: who's your favorite non-human character?
To be honest, my favorite non-human character is either Dobby or Aragog.
Hestia: describe your ideal house
I actually had a friend ask me this the other day and it's quite long. But the short of it is a 2 story, stone cottage that looks like a witch hovel.
Scene
You turn off the street through a rod iron, ivy covered gate, Down a treelined rough brick drive, the house is hidden from the road by trees and the gate that is half cobblestone half rod iron with ivy spilling over the top in spots. The house is seemingly placed on a pedistul with rock stairs built into the hill from the drive that leads to a rock path through the small lawn that is littered with purple thyme and wildflowers that grow about ankle height.
Surrounding the house is a small cluttered garden of herbs and flowers purposefully creating a wild forest of witchy and homeopathic ingredients that smell divine. There is a well positioned porch that wraps around the opposite side of the house with more potted plants littering around a few chairs and an end table which holds a vintage bed warmer being used as an ashtray. The front door is purple and rounded at the top. With 2 mini windows in it and iron support bars acrost the wooden panelling.
Inside the front door there is a little stone tile entryway with shoes littering the wall to the right behind the door with hooks for coats . To the left there is a small table against the parallel wall with mail and a bowl for keys and an umbrella stand with hats and scarves and leashes for the animals. Passed the entryway the floor changes to older wood flooring, at the end of the wall to the right opens to the dining room with a rough cut, viking style, repurposed wood table with 8 chairs atop an area rug. The table has a hidden leaf to accommodate the 4 chairs stored at various places against the walls of the room. There is a beautiful Victorian style China cabinet filled with a variety of different china patterns on the far wall. There is a buffet table on the adjacent wall (across from the large window that faces the lawn) with a lovely doily runner and dried flowers displayed with tall candlesticks on either side and a crystal candy dish on one side filled with butterscotch and peppermint candies. There is a sliding pocket door beside the buffet table that leads to the kitchen.
The kitchen is a moderate size with vintage tins for each bulk ingredient, drying herbs and flowers hanging all around. There is more ivy growing around the cabinets, which have fogged glass doors, and the bottom cabinets have curtains. There is a garden sink with a window looking out to the wrap around porch and an island in the middle with a grate hanging above it which stores baking pans and hangs pots/pans and various other things. There is a door way to the left of the door you just came through that leads back to the hallway and a walk-in pantry to the right with a hidden root veggie and wine storage beneath a trap door in the floorboard. On the opposite wall of the pocket door you just came through between the oven and the refrigerator, there is a farm door that leads out to the back part of the porch with a secondary screen door.
Going through the door to the left you're back in the entryway/hallway where you can see into the open livingroom passed the bottom of the stairs. Beneath the stairs there is the half bath, a simple toilet and sink set up. The livingroom has a small library in the front of the house surrounding a bay window that doubles as a comfy reading nook crapped in vintage lace curtains. (There is no TV!) There is a wood burning fireplace in the center of the far wall an alter is set up on the mantle with a swing arm that holds my cauldron over the fire fronted by a couple of wingback chairs. To the right further in the house there is a Victorian style couch with a small but long coffee table (with floor pillows stored underneath) facing a TV mounted to the wall surrounded by mounted gaming systems and music system complete with record player. In the corner there is a closet with records, movies, internet router, board games, blankets, and other various things.
Up the wooden stairs the floor the center of the layout is hall with 5 doors. The hallway in the upper floor curls to the left. And there are 2 doors on the left, one ahead, and 2 on the right wall and on at the end of the hall to the left. The closest door is at the top of the stairs to the right. Which leads to an office/library/craft room with shelf's lining the walls except the wall with the window which has a work desk that houses my computer, various printers (3d philament/resin, ink, and graphite), and the scanner. There is a closet to the far right which houses various tools, fabric, etc. In the middle of the room is another work table that looks more like an oversized cutting mat with a few chairs and stools surrounding it. Looks like we've had more than a few paint and marker fights over it. There is a rocking chair in the corner with a small foot stool that has a lovely crochet throw over it for reading when I don't want to go downstairs.
Back in the hall the next door is a full bathroom which has a lovely larger than standard tub in it with a small cabinet over the toilet and a farmhouse washing basin style sink. It is more of a vintage meets farmhouse style guest bathroom. With tile flooring and a small window with a stained glass. There are a few hooks for towels behind the door and on the wall beside the tub for easy access. A few small fluffy rugs to keep people from leaving puddles on the floor. The curtain for the tub is wrap around with some sort of quilted pattern on it. It's not a huge room but is big enough to bathe the baby while your teenager tries to fix their eyeliner in the mirror. Lol
(All of the floors are wood with at least one area rug in it to accent the color or mood of the room)
The next door you come too is a guest bedroom. It is about the size of the office with a queen sized bed pushed almost against the far right corner. There is a small end table with a lamp allowing for a bit of walking room between the bed and the far wall (opposite the door). There is a small chest of drawers across from the bed to the right with a vanity mirror and a vintage washbasin on top complete with pitcher and handtowel. Beside it is a small door to a closet with extra linens and pillows. It's relatively empty other than a few extra things like winter coats and a few hidden Christmas gifts for next year and a forgotten golf bag that dad left last time he was there to visit. Beside the door to the left there is a taller chest of drawers with a few pictures of family get togethers and fun memories on the walls. There are two windows one that overlooks the backyard and one that is on the wall opposite the door. It's simple cute and cozy.
The next door is the kids bedroom. (If I have three the guest bed will be the oldest siblings room before they move out and the younger two will more than likely be twins so they'll share or will segregate boy/girl etc.) The kids room is bigger than the guest room. With a bed coming out of the middle of the wall to the left. To the right there is a large mirror-double-doored wardrobe which houses clothes, shoes, uniforms, hats, winter wear etc. In the Tob there is a shelf for a few extra linens for sleep overs or whathaveyou. There is again 2 windows. There is a blown glass style window above the headboard of the bed which has a drapey sheer curtain that falls behind the bed, and there is a more stained glass window to the wall opposite the door that is behind a sort of work desk littered with books and papers and a laotop. Their school bag hangs by one shoulder strap off the chair. There is a more modern floor lamp beside it with a rubbish bin beneath it overflowing with wadded paper. There is a bookshelf to the right of the desk between the wardrobe and the wall full of novels and a radio/Bluetooth speaker. It also stores games and other things my kid has collected (stolen from me) over the years. On the wall to the left of the door is a huge lovesac covered in laundry next to the laundry basket in the corner. There are a vanity to the right of the bed and a small end table to the left (between the bed and the wall). both are littered with books, jewelry, makeup, niknacks, chargers, and a lamp. I don't want to know what's under the bed, but there is a small chaise at the foot of the bed. There is enough floor space to have a blanket fort or a small sumber party of about 6 kids.
The last room is the master suite. You walk in the door, and there is an attached bathroom to the left. Through a door at the far corner of the room. The queen sized bed is rod iron, with a lovely victorian Italian feel to it. It is against the far wall coming out from the middle with an end table on either side (his and her style). At the foot of the bed there is a chaise with shoes underneath. To the right of the door there is a window that overlooks the front of the house, it looks to have a bit of a window seat for reading. There is a glider chair int he corner beside the window. With a foot stool infront of it. To the left between the glider and the bedside table seems to be a combination of a quilt rack and a Butler station with a hanging suit and a little surface with my husband's daily accessories on it (wallet, belt, cologne, rings, knives, etc). To the left of the entry door is a bit more witchy/girly. There is a small writing desk that looks to double as a vanity with a collection of vintage and antique niknacks with drawers and built-in storage for my jewelry, knives, stamps, stationary, passports, etc. Between the vanity and the bathroom door looks to be a 5 panel changing screen where I have a few outfits hanging on a vintage clothes rack behind it. my silky house coat and a towel seem to have taken residence draping over one of the screen panels. Through the bathroom door there is a larger garden claw-foot tub with a Waterfall showerhead that takes up the majority of the back wall. There is stone tile flooring that also lines the walls about a 3rd of the way from the floor. The sink is to the left of the door and is a bit modern and standard with cabinetry beneath in storing towels (extras included) as well as toiletries and toilet paper. There is a cabinet over the toilet to the right that stores most of my body and hair products including my husband's few various products for hair care and maintenance. There is a small stainglass window that lets in natural light between the tub and the toilet where the towel rack is mounted just below it. And there are a few hooks behind the door as well as right next to the tub(to the left) for towels and robes for dressing.
When you go back downstairs passed the half bath between the stairs an dthe livingroom there is a sort of mudroom/laundry room. That leads to the back porch (is about 8 feed from the kitchen door which is to the right) to the left there is a set of stairs that lead you to the little bit of a backyard that has a trampoline and an in-ground pool. There may be a 2 door garage to the left where the workshop is for building and restoring/fixing things along with a section for gardening stuff. I really hate grads do there will be little pads of clover and creeping thyme as well as little gardens lining the gate and overgrown ivy with a few trees--one has a tree swing. Maybe the kid and my spouse plan on building a treehouse soon. I probably have a little garden labarenth hidden in the corner somewhere to do ritual outside. Or offering or whatever.
Yea... That's my house.

Interior Design Ideas: Modern English Tudor Design
Hello, my wonderful friends! It’s great to have you here for a new “Interior Design Ideas”.
Meticulously built by Hendel Homes and with interiors by Danielle Loven of Vivid Interior Design, the architectural direction of this Modern English Tudor residence expertly balances modern and traditional elements, reflecting on the common threads of an English Tudor country house and Hamptons grandeur. The result? A casual, sophisticated home that feels perfectly at ease in its Midwestern foundation.
This modern reinvention of timeless design delights with highly refined and detailed living spaces spread over three floors and I am sure this house tour will inspire you from the beginning to the end.
Try to relax, have a good time and pin your favorite interior design pictures! These stunning pictures by Susan Gilmore Photography and Landmark Photography should fill up your boards!

Hotel Maalot in Rome
5 Nov 2020
Hotel Maalot
Design: RPM PROGET
Location: Via delle Muratte, 78, 00187 Roma RM, Italy
In the heart of Rome there is a prestigious building overlooking Via delle Muratte, along the fascinating path connecting the Pantheon with the Parliament and the Trevi Fountain, which boasts the record as the busiest pedestrian area in Europe. Formerly called ‘The street of artists’, it’s where the painters’ ateliers lived together with antique dealers’ shops and quality craftsmanship workshops.
In this very particular context, RPM Proget, the Roman studio with a consolidated know-how in the design and realization of food spaces, has carried out an important project for a five-star luxury premise, the Maalot Hotel, which is now being completed with forecasted opening December 2020. The owner is an Argentine entrepreneur who already owns other successful hotels.
The building housing the Maalot Hotel is on four floors for about 3,000 square meters and looks like an elegant ‘palazzo’ of the 19th century where, between 1828 and 1837, the great composer Gaetano Donizetti, author of operas such as the ‘Elisir d’amore’ and ‘Don Pasquale’, wrote ‘Il Furioso di San Domingo’ and ‘Torquato Tasso’ within these walls.
The building is located near another important location realized by RPM Proget, the Baccano restaurant, a reference point for Roman restaurants and a well-known destination for a large gourmet clientele.
British Style In Rome The Maalot Hotel features a truly ‘British’ style and recalls the atmospheres of an English residence from various aspects: the fabric wallcoverings, the carpet flooring, the furnishings, the lamps and the colours of the 30 rooms, each one different from the other. This outstanding personality is completed with details such as the choice of physical keys instead of magnetic cards to create the feeling of a manor, rather than a hotel.
Precisely for this reason, comfort is at the core of the project, from the rooms to the common areas, from the soft textiles to the smooth and harmoniously mixed colours.
Whilst a rather common situation abroad, in Rome it’s quite unusual to enter the restaurant area to access the hotel rooms: at the Maalot Hotel, a hostess recognizes the guests, accompanying them to the table if they have booked at the restaurant, or addressing them to the hotel area, if guests want to retire to their room.
Rooms The rooms are classified according to useful surface, from the classic 16 square meters with double bed to those between 25 and 27 square meters, from rooms with living area to more important spaces in the form of mini-apartments with a small living room and a library, or with spectacular stone fireplaces.
A common feature of the rooms is the presence of a walk-in closet made-to-measure in Daniela walnut wood with an area for hangers and shoe racks and one for the chest of drawers with the refrigerator and a shelf for the built-in safe inside.
Bathroom are divided into two separate areas covered in open-scrub arabesque Calacatta marble, like the countertop of the washbasins. The two rooms in the attic feature precious Portoro marbles with black background and gold veins giving a refined and relaxing atmosphere, also due to the Daniela wood, a very blond walnut used in the bathroom, that blends with Portoro marble and its black and gold background.
Special attention has been paid to the textiles in the rooms, where fine fabrics cover the walls with a harmony of colours pleasantly coordinated with other textile elements such as the curtains, the padded headboards and the upholstered chairs, armchairs and sofas. A carpet in different colours different from room to room has been used for flooring.
Wherever I Lay My Hat… But that’s not enough: the paintings inside the rooms are inspired by a song by Marvin Gaye: ‘Wherever I lay my hat, that’s my home’. This concept is widespread in the interiors to communicate the idea of being at home and for this reason, the hat is the main actor of the graphic illustration inside the rooms, resulting in a coherent story that also continues in the restaurant, to follow the theme of the ‘art gallery’ in line with the artistic soul of via delle Muratte.
The Restaurant All the aspects that have inspired the genesis of this noteworthy work by RPM Proget ideally converge in the design of the restaurant, a location with about 60 seats designed for a niche clientele.
The choice of colours has been oriented towards soft tones, where greens and beiges prevail, with lush plants that descend from a closed skylight, while the flooring is made up of an aged oak parquet in a warm honey tone.
This space expresses the ‘green’ vision that never fails in RPM Proget’s works and that has found here the right conditions to create a unique and evocative environment and a fully immersive experience that blends historical charm and elegance.
The restaurant is like a living room surrounded by green curtains, a secret garden in the heart of Rome. The restaurant rooms are designed as an elegant art gallery where painters exhibit their evocative paintings, as it happened when this was the ‘street of artists’.
Exploring the main restaurant room and the lounge, where the cocktail counter is located, you almost accidentally run into the reception, housed in a refined study showcasing a rich selection of books available to guests.
Light And Sound Lighting is a point of pride in this project, because each single lamp in the bedrooms (table lamps, reading lamps, frame lamps, abat-jour) and in the common areas, was designed by RPM Proget in a full creative expression and on own design: particularly impressive is the chandelier in the restaurant which is 180 cm width by 180 cm high.
The theme of acoustics is about the whole project, having seen an overall structural intervention both on the floorings and on the walls with the application of gypsum fiber and Silent Diamond panels that reduce noise. The idea of ‘dressing the rooms in fabric’ further contributes to lower the noise, instinctively inviting to keep the volume of voice down: the carpet floor and the padded fabric coverings create a muffled effect that leads to the maximum soundproofing effect.
All fabrics are fireproof in compliance with the standards. To overcome the limited variety of colours and decorative motifs of this type of product, custom-made fabrics from Italian manufacturers have been used, taking advantage of charming and original decorations combined with the requested flame-retardant performance.
To Stay In Shape The hotel offers a gym of almost 100 square meters. Whilst many hotels offer classic equipment and anonymous spaces, a ‘furnished’ gym has been created here with mirrors and ebonized wood panelling giving an effect of great comfort. An ‘Omnia’ machine has been installed in collaboration with Tecnogym, a mix of free body and tools introducing a new philosophy that makes the environment fresh and exciting.
The Global Project Maalot is the first experience of ‘global hotel project’ made by the studio’s team, who took care of the whole design from the basement hosting the bathrooms and the gym to the penthouse on the sixth floor. In this hotel, each item is the result of a creative process by RPM Proget, initially not even foreseen, but which has grown more and more, until coming to involve the frames of the paintings.

Beautiful Homes of Instagram: How to Build your own Home
Beautiful Homes of Instagram is truly one of my favorite type of posts I publish on Home Bunch. It’s certainly not the easiest, but it’s a favorite and I hope it is for you too. I feel very proud to be featuring so many talented homeowners and be able to not only see their homes but especially know their story and the process of designing their space.
I am very happy to have Kristin of @kristin_kgdesigns on the blog today and I really think you will feel inspired by her beautiful home, especially if you dream of building your own home but feel intimated by this big task. Here, the homeowner shares more details and some encouragement:
Hi everyone! Luciane asked me to write up my “story”… so it all began back in the late 1970’s when little Kristin came into the world… kidding. No one needs to hear that! Let’s talk about my house building story, shall we?
That story starts about 3.5 years ago. We were living in our dream house we had built ourselves and had worked so hard on. It was on 5 wooded acres and we loved it. Then my oldest started kindergarten. We loved our house and property but we were not in the best area and certainly not a good school district. I thought we could stick it out for another few years but after one day of volunteering in his class I came home and told my husband we had to move. He nearly killed me…but he eventually acquiesced and we decided to start looking in the “good” school district. Lucky for us one of the top districts in the state was only a 20 minute move.
We sold our dream house and started looking for a house in the area we wanted to be in. Turns out we totally couldn’t afford the area we wanted to be in. So that meant we’d have to build again to get the kind of house and property we wanted our kids to grow up in. We found a gorgeous 5 acre property that had a 1962 ranch house that had never been updated and had an unfinished basement. We bought that property and did a boundary line adjustment so that we had two separate properties. We lived in the ranch house while designing and permitting our new house on our own. We literally designed every inch of this new house ourselves. While doing this (and both working full time), we gutted and completely remodeled the ranch house.
Permitting took us 15 months to complete and we broke ground in August of 2017. We moved in 10 months later. We were the general contractor and my husband built most of the house while I was his laborer. We both worked full time during all of this so we would get home every night and walk out to the new house to work until bedtime. For over two years we said no to almost every social invitation we received. We worked on this labor of love every day. And we couldn’t be happier. We love this house and can’t wait to raise our kids here.

Arplis - News: Their Washington Heights fixer-upper got a look they didn’t plan for
A chance discovery of a larger apartment due north of Midtown West in Manhattan led a family of four to a new home. Ylia, a strategy and retail planner, and André, in wealth management, found more space in Washington Heights for their two boys, ages two and three. But this 1,600-square-foot fixer-upper with two bedrooms and two baths would need a revamp. The couple posted their project on Sweeten, a free service matching renovators with trained professionals. They found a Sweeten architect to help them with the redesign they were seeking, including—by happy accident—giving the co-op a loft-like vibe. Guest blog post by Sweeten homeowner Ylia My husband and I were renting a two-bedroom in Hell’s Kitchen, where I was born and raised. My husband had moved in about 15 years ago. It was the perfect amount of space for us in a great neighborhood before the kids came along. We quickly outgrew the apartment, especially after our second son, leaving us with the desire for more square footage. We searched for quite a while with no luck. We had given up the search and decided to make due for as long as we could.  Then one day on a whim André went to see an apartment in Washington Heights. It was in bad shape, but it was larger than any listing we had looked at prior and we could personalize the fixer-upper the way we wanted.  Since this was a co-op built in 1914, we knew we had our work cut out for us. Between the outdated electrical, plumbing, creaky floors, and cracked walls, we knew it would require serious professional help. We reached out to Sweeten, and they linked us up with several architects to choose from who’d help us with the design. We also decided we’d continue renting during the renovation. Our initial conception of the space started in a much different place than where it ended! The apartment was generous in size but it was compartmentalized. We decided to raze three walls to provide a more open layout between the kitchen and the main living space.  Our architect came up with the idea of an infinity soapstone dual sink that I absolutely loved when I saw the drawing. Because we took down several walls, a support shaft was added and on our architect’s recommendation, we brought in two wooden columns to support the beam. Not only was it practical, but it gave the apartment a loft-like feel—a pleasant and unintentional consequence. In the beginning, we thought we would have a white kitchen with shaker cabinets and a subway tile backsplash, but as we got deeper into the process, we were drawn to Scandinavian minimalism. The vendors we used for the kitchen cabinets and floors both sourced their wood from Sweden, so it helped in accomplishing that aesthetic. Function was also a winner: we love our garbage disposal in the sink.  We moved the laundry room walls three times before we settled on its permanent home in a newly-built closet in the hallway! It turned out to be an excellent location for the washer and dryer.  (Above) Master bedroom WATCH VIDEO: (Above) Master bath before (Above) Master bath A fourth wall—dividing a room formerly used as a housekeeper’s quarters and the master—was knocked down to create a larger master bedroom. Our Sweeten architect drew up an efficient layout that allowed for ample closet space and a larger master bathroom that was pieced together to the last inch.  The bathrooms proved to be the most difficult with so many options and micro-decisions like the type of doorknobs and the number of lights! The housekeeper’s quarters was used as a storage space and needed a big overhaul to be brought up to speed. After much back and forth, we finally settled on finishes we felt would be unique, efficient, and spa-like. We also decided against having a bathtub in either bathroom and have not regretted that decision one bit. Our boys love taking showers!  Chevron designs on the bathroom shower floors and the glass panels were custom made for each since we had different needs in each one. Our architect came up with the idea of an infinity soapstone dual sink in the master that I absolutely loved when I saw the drawing.  Being first-time renovators and homeowners, we found the experience all-consuming but deeply rewarding. We had no qualms about undertaking such a project and would certainly do it again. One takeaway for us was to stay fluid and flexible. We thought we wanted a certain look, but when we found an alternative that we liked, we took the chance and rolled with it. The process was intense at times, but our team kept things chill and on track. We feel great about the space and the experience, and we couldn’t be happier with the support that Sweeten provided. East Hampton Modern Farmhouse Beautifully designed by Debra Geller of Debra Geller Interior Design, this East Hampton home combines classic interior design with modern farmhouse influences. Here, the designer gives more details about this impressive home. “This client already lived in their home for 16 years and they wanted to make major changes. We did a gut renovation and doubled the size of the house from approx. 4000 sf to 8000 sf. These clients were amazing and easy to work with and have great sense of style. My vision was to incorporate their love of family, easy living, and beauty and create an amazing space for them. I used reclaimed barn wood on the living room feature wall, beautiful wide plank oak floors throughout, stained a pretty custom mixed neutral gray. We kept that color pallet going in the entire house with paint and fabrics, adding different accent colors in each room. Lighting was a primary feature as well.. each room as a special and spectacular lighting – many lights were custom made for the space. I am also an artist and I painted them a beautiful serene ocean painting for the living room tie it all together as well as a heart painting for the breakfast room, creating more Zen elements. I also designed all of the upholstery, and window treatment, and my workshop J&J upholstery out of Norwalk, made it all for me. All rugs were also custom made for the house, as well as the kitchen table, foyer table with custom made iron base and a bluestone top. I designed and had made a concrete fireplace mantel and a concrete pool bathroom vanity top. The barn door in the breakfast room was also made for the house. Along with a had crafted reclaimed white oak dining table, and a hand made zinc kitchen table.” It was very important to me and my client that entire house flow, with texture, light, color and space, and be warm and livable… I believe I accomplished all of those goals. The best part of my job is seeing my clients face when they walk into their completed home, and tears of happiness roll down their faces.. I have done my job!! I love making people happy.” See all details below: East Hampton Modern Farmhouse “I am a construction and interior designer. It’s a hot word in today’s online world of DIY blogging and made over décor: Repurpose.  But what does it really mean to “repurpose” something? Google has informed me that to repurpose means to “adapt for use in a different purpose.”  This is one of my favorite words, and working at ReHouse I have daily inspiration.  It got me to wondering, what are the most popular architectural salvage items to repurpose?  I’ve done my fair share of upcycling, as it is also called, but I turned to the DIY pros via Pinterest for some guidance on the topic.
I conducted a search on Pinterest for “repurpose architectural salvage” and gathered my data on the frequency with which each item or category appeared in the results.  I then compared those results with our own POS database and the quantity of each item or category we sold in 2016 and 2017 so far (these numbers will be listed in parenthesis for each category or subcategory).  I have concluded that the top 10 architectural salvage items to repurpose (in no particular order) must be
Doors (1081)
Interior (709), exterior(209), paneled wood, metal, wood with leaded glass, rustic/barn (53), sliding, folding, painted or natural, hundreds of DIYers are adapting doors to fit their décor needs and styles.  These photos all come from ReHouse customers who have reinstalled or repurposed the doors they purchased here.
Top left: Tim repurposed a pair of oversized doors from a garage or barn into outdoor privacy walls on his deck. Top right: Exterior door with side lites and arched transom from Victorian home in Hornell, NY reinstalled at MCM Natural Stone in Rochester, NY. Center right: wood interior door with beautiful grain turned on its side is now a customer’s headboard. Bottom right: an assortment of paneled interior wood doors pieced together to make the sales counter at Grossman’s Nursery also in Rochester, NY.  Bottom left: side folding wood and glass garage doors became a space divider in a clothing store in NYC.
Windows (955)
Technically these are window sashes or one part of the whole window unit.  Most DIYers using windows seem to choose older wood framed sashes with divided lites (256), leaded glass (100) or the occasional stained glass (31).  Pinterest has window project round ups that include “25+ DIY Repurposed Window Ideas” and “40 Simple Yet Sensational Repurposing Projects for Old Windows.”  Wall decor seems to be a very popular result, and here are a few I would be happy to hang in my home.
Left to right.  1. Frame a fun favorite poster within the divided lites and add a whimsical accent to the front like Cassie from Little Red Window.  2. Feature a collection of small stained glass windows on an empty wall like this arrangement from Pinterest said to be in the home of John McGivern.  3. At Right Up My Alley Design on Etsy I found inspiration for painting on glass just as I would on a canvas.  4. I could not find any one to which I can attribute this creative enclosed frame except that it is obviously from the family of Sgt. Gregory W Ball.  Cases and cabinets seem to be a natural progression in window repurposing.
Left: By Your Hands featured this cabinet with windows as doors but did not know where it originally came from.  You could use a pre-built cabinet or build one to suit a found window.  Similar to one at my house, this cold frame from Grow Garden Tomatoes will protect your sprouting plants in the cool spring.
Metal Accents
Metalwork that was a part of something else in a former life often peeks through or sometimes even dominates architectural vignettes.  In ReHouse these items fit into all categories.  Among the top choices for salvaged metalwork are fence sections or pieces (73), gates with some sort of latch (7), heating grates (180), tin ceiling (361), lamp/lighting parts (320), and other metal do-dads, tools, and thingies from who knows what (I don’t have a number for that).
Top row, left to right: Narrow console table using reclaimed wood and wrought iron fence pieces, this post led me back to Cass at Remodelaholic. An aged run-of-the-mill chain link fence gate becomes a decorating focal point when hung above the fireplace and adorned with a natural arrangement at Back Porch Musings.  Those little dod-dads come in handy when making unique wind chimes as Rebecca discovered from life. by hand.  Tear that ugly fabric off an old lamp shade, invert, and let it hold up your tulips (no attribution).  Bottom row, left to right: Antique heating grates set into the ground and filled with colored stones become and enchanted walking path aparently from Hometalk. Make your own toilet paper holder out of pipe pieces or purchase at Reclaimed Art.  This lovely bouquet accent lamp is made of lamp parts with a touch of hardware for the blossoms by Jack at Jack Riley Lighting.
Hardware (9725)
That leads us into another broad category that spans all types of door knobs (816), door plates (688), drawer pulls and knobs (2451), latches (205), hinges (1348), hooks (217), escutcheons (162), and brackets (64).  I was surprised to discover that many hardware repurposing projects are resulting in beautiful and unique jewelry.  There are also many customers at ReHouse who want to give their kitchen or furniture a makeover with new knobs or pulls.
SONY DSC
Top row, right to left: ReHouse customer, Alissa Laine, restored this beautiful dresser by replacing the knobs with original glass.  1/2 of a hinge + 2 typewriter keys = a classy hook for necklaces made by Paul at Etsy shop StrangeTanks.  An antique eschutcheon (that key hole thing) and a few beads create a simple and elegant statement from a web page that is no longer active.  Some shabby chic door knobs are retrofitted for candles and rented out as wedding decor at Something Borrowed.  Bottom left:  One of my favorite uses for antique hardware has to be the addition of a door plate from ReHouse to a real and functioning guitar by Jonathan at Postal Commerce.  A statement piece worthy of a red carpet event this necklace features an antique drawer pull and (I think) precious stones made at Retreaux Girl.  Another ReHouse customer (whose name has been sadly misplaced) used 12 point glass door knobs and a wood door header to create an elegantly rustic coat rack.
Wood Trim and Accents
This is admittedly a large and varied category.  People are using corbels (76), plinth blocks (76), door headers (over 150 linear feet), column capitals, and pieces of wood appliqué.  It also includes all types of turned wood findings such as balusters (149), newel posts (8), columns (57), and furniture parts like chair spindles (145 chairs) and table legs.
Top left: An antique extra large corbel mounted on the wall becomes a plant stand at the Bachman’s Spring 2011 Ideas House and captured by Itsy Bits and Pieces.  Top center: Using some salvaged wood trim our customer Ms. Farnung created a lovely space to display her jewelry.  Top right: Decorative plinth blocks used to adorn the bottom corners of doorways where 2 types of trim meet.  Add a hook of your choosing and mount them to hang hats, necklaces, or dish towels like My Desert Cottage.  Bottom row: Matching corbels are used to support a shelf in the dining room at the Red Chandelier.   An unidentified but beautiful piece of salvaged wood repurposed as a table lamp by Meyer Interiors.
Mantels (33)
Pinterest viewers are not inundated with mantels as they may be doors or windows, but the end results are so beautiful and inspiring I feel they have earned a spot in the top ten.  These mantels are might be striped, sanded, painted, and/or stained.  Many live their new lives simply as restored mantels for real or imagined fireplaces, but often they are transformed into headboards, book shelves, or even a mirror frame.
Top left: upholstered mantel headboard by Rhonda at My Blue Creek Home.  Top right: shabby chic arched mantel headboard from a compilation at Country Design Home.  Middle right: mantel turned bookshelf found on Pinterest from an old Ebay link.  Bottom right: small mantel repurposed as a bathroom mirror frame at Neighbor’s Hill Bakery and Cafe in Arkansas (photo by Aunt Ruthie at Sugar Pie Farmhouse).  Bottom left: imagined fireplace vignette at Chateau Chic.
Shutters (224)
Both interior and exterior, shutters are used in a variety of household vignettes and projects.  Interior shutters are usually shorter and narrower.  These were more for privacy that for protection as large outdoor shutters were.  In case you’re interested, the most popular exterior shutter color is green if our inventory is any indication.
Top row, left to right:  Gail Wilson at My Repurposed Life made this handy magazine rack with one wide interior shutter.  A tool caddy using 2 small interior shutters made by customer Gail Miller at a ReHouse workshop last year.  Four small interior shutters painted white and attached to form a box hangs from a chain and lights up the space (unknown source).  Bottom left: A lovely autumn vignette featuring a pair of shutters in another customer’s home.   Bottom right: I’ve seen many display shelves made with a shutter as the back but this one includes a light at the top and doubles as a hall tree with coat hooks (unknown source).
Furniture (1633)
At ReHouse our furniture sales are topped by cabinets of all types (1027).  Far below that come chairs (145) and tables (131) and then just drawers all by themselves.  Many DIYers are following the painted furniture trend which is sometimes covered by the repurposed umbrella.  Here I would like to show some amazing examples of furniture repurposed as some totally unexpected things.
Top right:  wooden head and foot boards become a sunny bench for one customer.  Center left:  a refrigerator on its back and covered in barn wood will now hold all the cold drinks for the party at another customer’s house.  Top right: dresser – drawers + wallpaper = dollhouse (unknown source).  Bottom left: another foot board with some shabby chic paint and a dozen small hooks can hold all your tea cups and saucers on the wall (link went to Hometalk). Bottom right: From Gypsy Barn this upright piano has been gutted and fitted with shelves ans a drawer to be used as a dining room feature.
Commercial
Ok, I hear you…”what kind of category is commercial?”  This may not be on the top ten for Pinterest posts.  It may not even be defined as architectural salvage at all, but this year ReHouse has sold over 700 square feet of bowling alley.  That’s right, bowling alley.  I’m taking a guess that the customers who purchased these 700 square feet are not installing a home bowling alley.  The other option?  They must be repurposing it.
Now 700 square feet is very heavy.  It requires commitment to salvage, commitment to purchase, and commitment to repurpose.  With all that commitment I shall add my own.  I commit to giving Bowling Alley its very own post within the next few weeks featuring only projects completed by ReHouse Customers.  If you haven’t sent photos of your bowling alley project yet, now would be a good time.
Until then, what will you repurpose today?
Top 10 Architectural Salvage Items to Repurpose for Your Home It’s a hot word in today’s online world of DIY blogging and made over décor: Repurpose.  But what does it really mean to “repurpose” something?

2019 Home Renovation Ideas
This was a wonderful two-phase project that began when these clients decided they wanted to remodel their kitchen. This east-coast family had been living with builder-grade finishes that were dark and “Tuscan-Inspired” and were ready to have an updated kitchen that reflected their New Hampshire roots. Amy Tausk of Swoon Interiors and Stephanie Frees of Plain & Posh (previously featured here) worked together to design all new custom cabinetry that is more functional and beautiful.
Take notes on all details shared by the designers. I am sure this home renovation will give you many ideas for your own renovations this year!
Photography by Picture Perfect House.
  2019 Home Renovation Ideas
The kitchen felt dark and outdated before Amy and Stephanie worked their “magic” in this space!
Tumblr media
Kitchen “After”
Kitchen Renovation: The designers revamped the kitchen into a clean, white and fresh space – but with a warm and cozy vibe like the rest of their house. Quartz countertops, clean-lined white cabinetry, a farmhouse sink, reclaimed wood and handcrafted subway tile laid in a herringbone pattern really transformed the space.
Counter stools – Spin Swivel Backless Counter stool from Crate & Barrel – Other Beautiful Counterstools: here, here, here & here.
Shiplap
Shiplap: Reclaimed wood shiplap on the island really added warmth and the rustic vibe the designers were looking for.
Cabinetry
Kitchen cabinets are from the Plain & Posh custom collection and are a non-beaded inset.
Range
The range is by Viking.
Flooring: Solid hardwood flooring – similar here.
Cabinet Hardware
Cabinet Hardware is by Schaub and is the Menlo Park knob and pull.
Backsplash
Backsplash: Masia 3×6 Subway Tile in Ivory – Other Tiles: here, here, here, here & here.
Kitchen Island
Kitchen Island Design: Keeping the island a square size made the best spatial sense in this room – and lent itself to using one larger chandelier instead of two pendants. Amy decided to make that the main light feature in the room and just reconfigure the can lighting around the rest of the space.
The light fixture is by Currey & Company the Simpatico Small Orb Chandelier.
Kitchen Island Dimensions – The island is 56” square
Wall Ovens
Wall Ovens: Wolf – similar here & here.
Kitchen Countertop Decor Ideas: Wooden Cutting Boards, Cake Stand, Crocks, Pitcher, Canisters, Dough Bowl, Planters, Topiaries.
Kitchen Sink
The sink is the Kohler Whitehaven apron front in their sea salt finish.
Kitchen Faucet
Faucets is by Kohler, Artifacts.
Beautiful Kitchen Tea Towels: here, here, here & here.
Kitchen Countertop
Countertops are Caesarstone London Grey.
Cabinet Paint Color
Kitchen cabinets and trim are Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17.
Window Treatment
Window Treatment – Hunter Douglas Designer Screen Roller Lite Rise and Skyline Panels.
Breakfast Room
Their clients also wanted a cozy spot for their family to gather – in the mornings with coffee or for dinnertime conversation. The slip-covered chairs and weathered-wood table are now a favorite spot in the house. Even on a cloudy day, it feels bright and cheerful … truly the heart of the home for this wonderful family.
Table – Eldridge Dining Table, Home Decorators Collection – Others: here, here, here & here.
Dining Chairs
Chairs – Linen Slipcovered Accent chairs from Wisteria – Others: here, here, here, here, here & here.
Bar
Previously the corner of the kitchen housed a tiny desk and became a catchall for a little bit of everything. They knew they could turn it into a much more usable and beautiful space. Now it is an entertaining-workhorse – with antique-mirrored upper cabinetry and a beverage refrigerator and wine rack below.
Home Remodel
Fast-forward a couple years and this family knew it was time to transform a few other rooms in their home into the fresh clean look we had given them in their kitchen. On the list, the Master Bathroom, Laundry Room and first floor Powder Room.
Powder Room
“Good things come in small packages! The jumping off point for this room was this fantastic watercolor-inspired wallpaper. We matched the color on the custom-built vanity and added shiplap to the back wall. A favorite library sconce, fun crystal knobs and this gorgeous wall-mount faucet are other details we love. Once again, we warmed up the space with a touch of natural wood, in the form of this wood-framed mirror that ties in with the existing wood floors. Finally, it’s hard to see in photos, but the quartz countertop has a lovely textured, “leathered” finish.”
Powder Room Sconce: Anette Library Light by Ralph Lauren – similar here.
Shiplap
The Shiplap behind the sink area is painted in Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17.
Mirror – Bentwood Rounded Rectangular Mirror from Rejuvenation.
Faucet
The faucet is from Newport Brass and is the Fairfield wall Mounted faucet (3-947).
Wallpaper
Wallpaper: Graham & Brown Indigo Aqua Wallpaper (available through the designer) – Others: here, here & here.
Artwork: One Kings Lane.
Vanity
Vanity was custom Built by the Plain & Posh collection and painted Benjamin Moore – Affinity collection Blue Echo 505.
Master Bathroom “Before”
“The builder of this home was obviously of a “More is More!” mindset … more arches, more walls, more steps – all if it making what is not a huge space to begin with feel even more cramped and choppy. While the colors were neutral, they still felt dark and dingy.”
Master Bathroom “After”
“We wanted to make the room feel light, bright and luxurious. Now, it is the exact same square footage as before but it feels huge!”
Ceiling
“Even with all of the lights off – it is so bright and cheery. And check out the ceiling! With all of the arches gone, Stephanie was able to see what it could become! She created this unique hexagon shape which inspired the rest of the room layout. The gorgeous wood bead chandelier looks stunning in the space.”
Flooring
“One of our preferences when doing bright white spaces is to bring in a warm element. We could have easily done a light floor – white or gray marble, and it would have been beautiful, but maybe a little cold – and certainly not as cozy feeling. Amy approached our client about doing a wood-look tile in a herringbone pattern for the floors – (especially since the adjoining bedroom is carpeted … we wouldn’t be competing with more wood), she wasn’t sure if she would be on board. Thankfully, she loved the idea of giving the room a slightly more rustic, farmhouse element.”
Flooring: wood/tiles: Hill House Field Tile 6×36 –  Others: here, here & here.
Vanity Layout
“What used to be one straight vanity and a big empty wall … … is now a beautifully designed double vanity that wraps the corner with mirrors and provides and extra spot with seating for putting on makeup.”
Make-up Drawer
The two small drawer fronts under the makeup area mirror are actually doors that swing open to hidden outlets. Genius!
Vanity Stool – Pottery Barn
Countertop
“And … just the right quartz counter tops are still a win-win in our book, for both their beauty and durability. This one has such great movement and even some soft brown tones that tie in with the flooring.”
Beautiful Bathroom Accessories: here, here, here, here, here & here.
Cabinetry
Bathroom cabinetry is by the Plain & Posh custom collection. Timeless design!
Chandelier
Chandelier: Dauphine Wood Empire Chandelier by RH Baby & Child – Other Beautiful Chandeliers: here, here, here, here, here, here & here (different sizes).
Cabinet Paint Color
Cabinet paint color Benjamin Moore Classic Gray 1548.
Artwork from Minted.
Bathroom Sconces
“Amy had been dying to find just the right project in which to use these vertical double light sconces, and I knew this was the one. As big as they are, they don’t take up much visual space when mounted to the mirror, yet they still make such a statement in the room.”
Sconces: Visual Comfort – Graydon Double Bath Light by Thomas O’Brien.
Faucet & Sink
Bathroom faucets are Rohl, Palladian collection.
Sinks are Kohler Caxton Rectangle (K-20000-0) in White.
Hardware is by Atlas – The Elizabeth pull in Polished Nickel Both 419 and 420PN.
Freestanding Tub
Tub is by Signature Hardware and is the Rosalind Pedestal tub.
Tub Filler: Rohl.
Tub Stool
Wooden Stool – Dip Dyed Stool from Serena & Lily.
Shower
The entrance to the shower is now on an angle.
Window
A  large window was added facing the tub to allow you to see through to the gorgeous mosaic tile on the back wall.
Shower Window
A high window was added inside of the shower to bring in light. The water closet (with cabinets for extra storage!) is located on the left.
Tiling
In addition to the sparkle the mosaics add, we dressed up a classic white subway tile with beautiful marble hex tile on the shower floor, gleaming polished nickel fixtures and a stunning lucite door handle.
All of the plumbing fixtures are from Rohl Palladian collection.
Shower Tiles: – Madrid Handmade Subway Tile in Blanco – similar here & here.
Accent Tile: Calacatta Gold Polished Interlocking Mosaic Accent Tile – similar here.
Floor Tile: Calacatta 5” Hexagon Honed on floor – similar here & here.
Laundry Room “Before”
Next – the laundry room. Like most builder-grade laundry rooms, this one was functional with no style. And … it was not even functioning to its full potential. The entire right wall was left blank … our clients put in their own table as a makeshift folding area.
Laundry Room “After”
“The cabinets were painted this lovely custom shade and given new doors and hardware. And in a room like a laundry room, why not go fun and bold with the flooring? We selected this tile that mimics the look of more expensive cement tiles.”
Tile is from Home Depot and is the Merola Tile and is the Arte Grey encaustic porcelain– similar here.
Sink Area
A new sink, countertop and faucet updated the old utility sink.
Color
The cabinetry is Plain & Posh collection. Stephanie, was extremely kind and called the cabinet maker to get the cabinet color just for you! The cabinet color is Slate Tile by Sherwin Williams SW 7624.
The faucet is the Litze pull out spray Square spout and industrial handle from Brizo in the brilliance stainless finish.
Laundry sink is from Sterling the Latitude 995-0.
Washer & Dryer: LG.
Cabinet Countertop & Hardware
“Of course, we had to add some warm wood tones too, which we did with a custom built wood countertop over the washer and dryer.”
The counter top on the washer and dryer are a wood top in a custom stain.
Hardware is by Atlas and is the Bradbury pull in their black finish.
Dream Laundry Room
“And on the other side of the room … brand new cabinetry was added, along with a true designated area for folding laundry and wall-mounted drying racks.”
Beadboard Drying Rack – Ballard Designs – similar here & here.
Storage
“But that’s not all … previously this corner behind the door was just a place for piling up all of the tall household items that wouldn’t fit elsewhere. Now, this “bottom-less” cabinet is the perfect place to hold a clothes steamer or vacuum that you can simply roll right out and use when needed.”
Folding Area Countertop
The folding area counter top is Caeserstone Pebble (4030) in a honed finish.
Laundry Basket – Steele Divided Canvas Sorter- Crate & Barrel – also available here.
Aren’t these designers just amazing? Besides being very talented (yes, you should hire them!

Beautiful Homes of Instagram
Happy new week, my friends! How wonderful it is to start this brand new week with you! May all of us have a Blessed and healthy week, filled with good vibes. Talking about good vibes, this “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” today is all about that! Agata, from @TassonInteriors, has a home that feels heavenly. Its neutral color palette combined with classic millwork exudes a timeless elegance that embraces you the moment you step inside.
Having Agata on the blog today is truly a great honor. She worked really hard on collecting all sources for this feature and even hired a photographer to share her home with you. Please make sure to follow her on Instagram and feel free to pin her beautiful home! This talented homeowner deserves all the love we can give!
Here, she tells us more about her current home (Note: I am reposting this today because I am taking a few days off with my family. 🙂 )
“Hi! My name is Agata from @TassonInteriors.  I’m so excited and grateful to be featured by Luciane on Home Bunch!  I’ve found so much inspiration here and it feels surreal to be featured among so many talented designers and homeowners.
I started my career as a criminal prosecutor ten years ago.  When our daughter was born I took a break from law to enjoy these precious young years with her. During that time my husband and I started our third home renovation. Earlier this year I started an Instagram account to share our renovation, and my love for design. With the encouragement of family and friends I am now in the process of pursuing my longstanding passion for interior design and decorating as a career.
Our current home is the one featured here in these photos. My husband and I purchased this home as a new builder grade home.  We love the neighbourhood because it has an abundance of parks, new schools, young families, and it’s close to many amenities. We didn’t upgrade anything through the builder choosing instead to put our own stamp on the house which included full kitchen and bathroom renovations (our master bathroom is currently under construction).  I wanted a light, bright, airy, warm, casual and liveable home. Im really flattered to be able to share my home and work with you. I hope that you enjoy the tour! Thanks for stopping by!”

Mirrored Doors: I added these mirrored doors in our entrance hallway to make the space feel more open and airy. We love them so much that we also added them to our laundry closet. (source is Trim-lite)
Dining Room
I love having a separate dining room but we didn’t want anything too formal or fancy. We love to host family and friends, but our dining room isn’t just for special occasions. We eat dinner in our dining room every evening. It’s so important to me for our family to connect around the table at the end of the day.
Table – similar at RH, here, here & here.
Herringbone Flooring
These herringbone floors were a last minute decision which turned out to be our favourite feature of this room. We also added some millwork to give the white walls some interest.
Chandelier: Visual Comfort Co. hand -rubbed antique bras with clear glass.

   Butler’s Pantry
A butler’s pantry is located between the dining room and kitchen.
The wide plank European white oak floors are by far my favourite feature of this house. They add so much character and warmth to our home. They also give it the light and airy feel that I was after.
Cabinetry
Glass doors give an airy feel to the butler’s pantry cabinetry.
Kitchen
This is our favourite space in our home.  I love the open floor plan kitchen and family room.  It’s where we spend most of our time preparing meals, playing, reading and enjoying our family time.   The back of our home is southwest facing so we enjoy a lot of natural light here. We eliminated the breakfast area and designed this custom kitchen opting for a large 9 x 4.5 foot island instead of a breakfast table.  I wanted the kitchen to feel modern and fresh yet timeless. The panelled fridge was a splurge but I absolutely love it.
Double Oven – Jenn Air
Fridge – Thermador
Cabinet Paint Color
Cabinet Colour – Simply White by Benjamin Moore.
Backsplash
For the backsplash I opted for a very classic white bevelled 3 x 6 subway tile.  I didn’t want anything too busy or trendy. I love how the backsplash compliments the quartz counters without competing with them.
Backsplash – 3×6 white beveled subway tile – similar here & here (crackled tile).
Pot Filler – Kohler Artifacts Wall Mount Pot Filler in Polished Nickel
Oil & Vinegar set – West Elm
Glass Cooktop – KitchenAid

Metals
I like the fact that the mix of metal in this kitchen exists but it’s limited to two finishes; polished nickel and aged iron.

The wide plank European white oak floors are by far my favourite feature of this house. They add so much character and warmth to our home. They also give it the light and airy feel that I was after.

Counterstools
I searched and searched for the perfect counter stools but ultimately I decided to stick with the ones that I already had.  Instead, with the help of Anne from Oakville Slipcovers I had slipcovers made from some beautiful striped fabric from Tonic Living.  I’m so happy with how they turned out!

Branches – Pottery Barn
The large basket is from Pottery Barn.
Coffee Table
Coffee Table – here.
Living Room Roman Shades
Woven Roman Shades – Hunter Douglas, Provenance Collection, colour Trellis.
Powder Room
The powder room was originally located between the kitchen and the dining room.  We relocated the powder room into the sunken laundry room. The original powder room was transformed into a walk-in pantry across from the butler’s pantry.  I love that the powder room is now in a more discrete spot.
I was really inspired by Luciane’s first Beautiful Homes of Instagram Home Bunch feature @JSHomeDesign’s powder room.  That’s where I found this beautiful Crown wallpaper and this honed marble herringbone tile. I designed this custom mirrored vanity and paired it with a durable quartz counter.
Pocket Doors (powder room) Another way we added custom charm to our cookie cutter build was to add pocket doors. They are such great space savers. (Hardware is by Emtek) (pocket door is in the powder room, between master bedroom and master bathroom & 2 master bedroom walk-in closets)

“Dear God,
If I am wrong, right me. If I am lost, guide me. If I start to give-up, keep me going.
Lead me in Light and Love”.
Have a wonderful day, my friends and we’ll talk again tomorrow.”
