In some fit of idiocy my synagogue decided to demolish the adjacent building instead of selling it because they were scared white supremacists would purchase it and menace us. Or something. I do get where this paranoia comes from given that we get shooting and bomb threats several times a year including occasional ones where the threatener actually is planning it. But I do think a part of this is also the like, white suburban fear of outsiders given that this congregation is mostly older white Jews from well-off areas working in academia. Which then turns into a frenzy when you are an actual minority with actual veritable threats of violence frequently leveled at you. But lbr a Nazi org was not gonna buy the building and wage war at us from there or whatever. Worst case scenario was a landlord renting it out to some rowdy students who play loud music during services, like it would've been fine.
