Lord forgive me, but I'm about to become an old GM guy.
Definitely getting into the 3800 engine, working on it for my Park Avenue. In general have been a big fan of the styling in 80s/90s Buick and Oldsmobile in particular for a long time.
I still think there are some idiotic design choices in this engine, (PLASTIC GASKETS) and Dexcool is cancerous. IDK. It's crap but I like it.

That Time Forgot: Chevrolet Monte Carlo Intimidator
Time definitely forgot about this one, although it did preview the appearance of something to come. What’s this? You’ll find out in today’s installment of That Time Forgot.
Tumblr media
This is the 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Intimidator Concept. Introduced at the 1998 North American International Auto Show in Detroit by two surprise guests, Dale Earnhardt Sr. and the Tasmanian Devil, this was a racecar inspired vehicle taking cues from the Monte Carlos Chevrolet was racing in NASCAR at the time.
Tumblr media
Described as road-legal by Chevrolet, but “only barely”, the car was equipped with a modified Buick 3800 Series II 3.8L V6 producing some 295 horsepower and 280 lbf⋅ft (380 Nm) of torque. The design of the car was done by Wayne Cherry.
Tumblr media
The car featured all of the fixings you’d find in a racecar, especially a NASCAR one; low-slung front and rear airdams, decklid spoiler, racing guages, Recaro bucket seats, fire suppressant systems, five-point harnesses, steel safety cage, blah blah blah blah.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, the Monte Carlo Intimidator was never produced and remained a concept; however, the design of the Intimidator served as inspiration for the next generation of the Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The name “Intimidator” would be reused for the Dale Earnhardt Signature Edition, a special edition of the 2002 Monte Carlo of which 3,333 were produced.
Tumblr media
As far as I’m aware, the Intimidator Concept is currently in private ownership, having been auctioned off by Barrett-Jackson some time in 2017.
Now that weve gotten the history of the Intimidator Concept out of the way, let’s talk about the Hot Wheels casting.
Tumblr media
Designed by Phil Riehlman, the Monte Carlo Intimidator was introduced in 1999 as a First Edition in the above color scheme. It has never been referred to by the name “Monte Carlo Intimidator”, instead always having been referred to as the “Monte Carlo Concept Car”; the Hi-Rakers release is an exception, but we’ll get to that later.
Tumblr media
The base is made of metal and the casting is notably quite heavy; “MONTE CARLO CONCEPT CAR” can be seen on the base. However, interestingly, prototypes have a base marked with “MONTE CARLO INTIMIDATOR”; the “Intimidator” name was probably dropped on the model due to licensing issues.
Tumblr media
The standard release of the Monte Carlo Intimidator saw a total of ten releases, last being released in 2007 as a Multi-Pack exclusive.
Tumblr media
A modified version of the tooling was introduced in 2006. Featuring jacked up suspension and a plastic base, this Monte Carlo Concept is simply named the “Monte Carlo”. This version only saw two releases and was also last released in 2007 with an Easter Eggs-clusives release.
Tumblr media
I hope you have learned a little bit more about this stock car-inspired road car and its small Hot Wheels counterparts, and as usual, I’d do it again any day.

Broken fuel line connector on 2000 Buick park avenue(3800 series II) via /r/cars
Broken fuel line connector on 2000 Buick park avenue(3800 series II)
I was driving my car to the store to pick of some stuff and started smelling gas and noticed some on the ground. I also noticed I was missing a few gallons from my tank. Any ideas on what parts I'd need to fix this?

Its moment passed pretty quickly, but the 1961-63 Buick Special left us two real legacies - the Rover (formerly Buick) V8 and Buick’s original V6 - known later as the “3800.” The new Special, recycling an old model name, was part of a three-pronged “deluxe compact” approach at Buick, Olds, and Pontiac starting in the fall of 1960. The other two “Y-body” cars were the Olds F-85 and Pontiac Tempest. Though they looked conventional, they were not underneath - unibodies with unusual engines and features. GM’s tech efforts were rewarded with warm reviews from the press, but never the sales they had envisioned. - The “B-O-P” compacts were launched a year after the mainstream ones - in the fall of 1960. Although some of the pieces (like cylinder heads) were different on the Olds version, Buick led the design of the small V8 that was offered in all three. The Aluminum-alloy (Al, Si, Cu) engine was an outgrowth of ALCOA/GM experiments in the mid-1950s, but work really began in 1958. The 215-cid engine weighed just 324 lbs., the lightest V8 in any American car at that time, but still fairly powerful - 185hp in the high-compression, 4-barrel version. Buick’s version had heads and rocker covers designed to look like the “nailhead” V8, Olds had ones designed to look like the “Rocket” V8. - The big news in 1962 was Buick’s new V6. The V8 special was nice, but a big price gap fell between the fancier Falcons and the Special, and a straight six wouldn’t fit in the Y-body engine bay - hence a V6 design was derived from the Aluminum V8. It was Buick’s first six since 1931 and the first V6 in any American car. Made in cast iron, it was much cheaper to make than the V8 but weighed 50 lbs. more and made about 15-20% less power. It was also a vibraphone of harshness in those early days thanks to its 90-degree setup and uneven firing order, but it worked very well and had the intended effect - Buick sold tons of V6 Specials in 1962-63 (but fewer later). - Neither of these engines performed as well as GM had hoped in the marketplace, and by 1968 both had been sold off - the V8 to Rover and the V6 to Kaiser-Jeep. In 1975, GM bought it back and evolved it into a new generation of V6s. https://www.instagram.com/p/B6TQ4-kFZbi/?igshid=1qswuqkpp8mvw

The Pontiac Fiero could have been a winner with a supercharged V-6 - Brett Lirones @Hagerty
The Pontiac Fiero could have been a winner with a supercharged V-6 – Brett Lirones @Hagerty
By all reasonable accounts, the Pontiac Fiero was a disappointment. GM’s mid-engine experiment had a lot of potential, but it was ultimately stifled by cost cutting measures and corporate mandates designed to keep its abilities under it’s big-brother—the Corvette. Fortunately, owners and enthusiasts have taken it upon themselves to right this performance-crushing wrong. And this supercharged V-6 …
