Seven minutes in heaven
Summary: Veronica is dating Archie, Jughead is dating Betty. But who would’ve thought that Jughead could turn Veronica’s eye? Who would’ve thought that the Serpent Kings secret obsession would be the Rich Raven haired girl whose father is trying to destroy his Serpents?
Who knew that seven minutes in a closet with someone could be difficult and the air so thin.
Ship: Jeronica/Vughead
Edit: 2.9k words
Enjoy xoxo
{******************}
"Because, V, it's an after party." Betty places her hands on Veronica's shoulders, holding onto their eye contact. "Archie and his team just won the last game of the season!" Betty squeals shaking Veronica's shoulders.
"Yeah but Cheryl's throwing it. There are a million other party's going on at this very second that do not have a certain Cheryl Blossom to terrorize it's guests." Veronica says pointedly.
"Yeah, well, this one was the closest with free beer." Archie says passing his girlfriend, Veronica, a red cup.
"I'm going to need something stronger than beer."
"Oh come on! Loosen up! Sure it's Cheryl's house and Cheryl's party, but this is Archies victory." Betty releases veronica and trades V's shoulders for the sleeve of Archies letterman jacket to playfully tug at him, beaming up proudly at him.
"And in a way, V," She drags out the nickname in her lively tone. "It's our party too, we did cheer our bulldogs to victory, did we not?"
"I suppose we did," Veronica sighs beginning to give in, this was clearly a battle she wasn't going to win. They were already here, and Archie deserved to celebrate this moment. She could see how hard he had worked all season to get here, and besides, it was the least she could do.
"I will be right back you guys, I'm gonna go find Jug! He said he'd meet us here but, I haven't seen him." Betty's ponytail was already disappearing into the crowd.
Veronica's heart seemed to stop for three full seconds and start again with a painful swell after hearing Jugheads name. Archie puts his arm around her shoulder.
"And I am going to find something stronger than this disgusting concoction," she gives the liquid in her cup a look of disdain. "find the kitchen with me Archiekins?" Veronica shifts her gaze to meet Archies, forcing her best smile.
"Of course." Archie nods and leans down to give her a quick kiss before beginning their search for the kitchen.
After stepping over spills and empty cups on the floor, pushing through sweaty dancing bodies, and breathing their way through the smoke in the air, Veronica and Archie found their way to the kitchen rather easily. Veronica abandons the warmth of Archie's arm and start searching through the freshly polished mahogany cabinets.
She's made her way through three cabinets, now searching through the back of the bottom cabinet left to the sink when Jugheads voice startles her. Her heart almost slides out of her mouth and onto the wood underneath her when she hits her head, pulling herself out of the cabinet, a bottle of dark substance in hand. When she turns around she doesn't look at him, though she hasn't seen him in two weeks and she would trade oxygen for a glance of even a piece of him. She sneaks her way back into the safety of Archies side while focusing a little too hard on opening the bottle of Bourbon Whisky.
"Betty's told me the two of you have gotten back together, congratulations."
No one except for Veronica can hear the slight condescension in Jugheads tone, no one else knows him well enough to hear it through the music.
"Thanks man." Archie says, kissing the top of Veronica's head. Under Jugheads gaze Archies kiss feels like treason, his arm back around her feels like hot iron, melting into her skin. Veronica stays silent, having gotten the bottle open she takes a swig a few seconds too long.
"This is a party! Why are we just standing here! Let's dance!" Betty screams, breaking the tense silence when the beat of the music changes to something faster, smoother. Betty takes the bottle from Veronica's hand and takes a sip herself. She hands the bottle back to Veronica and leads Jughead to the dance floor, Veronica doesn't look up until she can only see Jugheads back. Her heart feels like it might burst out of her chest when she sees the serpent planted on the back of his jacket.
When did he…?
"What do you say? Should we dance?" Archie looks down at Veronica, drowning out her thoughts about Jughead and his new jacket. .
Veronica smiles, "Of course," She intertwines their fingers and follows after Betty and Jughead, looking at the floor instead of the Jacket.
Veronica leads him out to the dance floor, as close to Jughead and Betty as they can be, the pair already dancing. Veronica's body falls in tune with the music, Archie pulls her in close, his hands on her hips as she rolls into him in time with the beat.
Veronica steals a glance at her blonde best friend and her boyfriend to find Jughead already looking at her. They lock eyes and she feels deaf to the music. As if it were never playing to begin with. The eye contact makes her skin rise with goosebumps, her chest aches at the distance between them. Her eyes travel down the length of him, his tattooed covered throat and hands. Hands resting on Betty's waist.
The sight pulls her back to the surface, the music floods into her senses and makes her head spin with a sudden intensity. She brought the bottle back up to her lips, drinking until it burned the back of her throat while ink-free hands roamed over her dancing body.
Her eyes were still closed and the glass still touched her lips when the bottle was ripped from her grasp, small drops of alcohol falling over her little black dress. Her eyes opened and she glared at the culprit that stole it from her, the reason her heart had been beating funny since the day she walked into Riverdale. Jughead brough the bottle to his lips.
"There you are bulldog!" A voice speaks up from the middle of the pair. Neither Veronica or Jughead had noticed she was standing there.
"Hi, Cheryl." Archie and Veronica's movements slow to stop, as do Betty and Jugheads.
"Great party, Cheryl." Betty perks up from beside Jug.
"Why thank you, fellow Vixen." Cheryl gives Betty a nasty smile, and, if you didn't know Cheryl, you would think she was being kind.
"Come, Join us in seven minutes in heaven. I've saved you all a seat. Two for you, Betty." Cheryl glances briefly over Betty, giving the group a wide red lipped smile.
"No thanks, Cheryl, we're all in relationships and quite frankly I'm not interested in any dieses you might be spreading around." Veronica snaps as the sea of people continues to dance around them.
Cheryl's stare hardens but her conniving smile remains. "As Bulldog and Vixen, your hostess, meaning Moi, insists. What's the matter Betty, still afraid of having a little a fun? You are a Vixen now, just as you've always begged to be, don't you think you should play like one too?"
Betty rolls her eyes, "If we play one round will you shut the hell up?"
"Maybe" Cheryl's voice perks, "Follow me ladies and gentlemen."
With Cheryl front and center the five of them make their way into a quieter part of the house, where the music can be felt in the cushions of Chery's fine leather seats rather than heard through the walls. They all take their seats, Jughead and Betty seated next to one another, across from Veronica and Archie.
Cheryl was circling the group of ten students that also attended Riverdale High. "I think it should be Jughead who goes first. What do you lot think?" Cheryl speaks up from the head of the table, holding an empty glass coca-cola bottle.
"I have a girlfriend." Jughead mumbles, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"You sit at the table, you play the game." Cheryl's voice is hard. "Does anyone second this?"
Reggie laughs from Veronica's left side. "I do!" his words are slurred with drunken chuckles "It's about time you got some play don't you think? I know little miss perfect over there isn't any fun."
"Shut the hell up Reggie." Jughead glares at the drunken idiot at the end of the couch with a red cup up to his snickering mouth.
"Well there we have it. Jughead. You're up first."
Jugheads eyes flicker to Veronica but she was already staring at him. Her eyes flick up from his full mouth to meet his eyes. Her chest tight, hands trembling slightly around the neck of the bottle in her hand. Cheryl placed the empty bottle in the center of the table and spun it with force. Everyone watched as the bottle spun. Veronica and Jughead the only ones looking away to steal a glance at the other. Neither of them would say it. Where they guiltily hoped the bottle would land. And it did, directly on Veronica.
"Absolutely not." Veronica didn't spare a second to let the words fly from her lips. Though her stomach pulled towards Jughead.
"Spin it again." Jughead demanded, his voice so low it demanded attention from every nerve in Veronica's body but she kept her eyes locked on Cheryl's.
"Rules declare that if you refuse, then the hostess gets to take your turn." She chuckles cynically. "I wouldn't mind if I do."
Veronica wanted to gouge the red heads eyeballs out.
"V, it's okay. I trust you more than I trust that Viper. Besides after this we can get back to the party." Betty speaks up.
"B, No." Veronica shakes her head.
"Betty's right, no matter what your plan is Cheryl, that isn't who they are."
Cheryl smirks deeply, "We'll see." Her voice is fresh poison with certainty. Like she knows something she shouldn't, something Archie and Betty don't.
"It's okay V, I know you would never do that to me." The words cut Veronica wide open, right there on the table she should've bled out every secret, every whisper in the dark. Veronica nodded and stood.
She could do this, she would stand on one side of the closet, and he would stand on the other. For several minutes. She wouldn't even breathe if that’s what it took. She walked towards the coat closet, feeling Jughead close behind her.
When they reached the door, Jughead reached forward from behind her, heat radiating off his body and warming her back, to twist the door open for her.
"Have fun you two," Cheryl taunted as they stepped inside.
Veronica started the timer on her phone the minute the door shut and she stared down at the numbers decreasing with every passing second. Jughead stared at her as she refused to look at him, her face illuminated by her cell phone.
"Fun party." Jughead mumbled.
"Shut up. Don't speak." He could say whatever he wanted, just as long as he were talking to her.
Jughead made a face as if to say 'if you insist' and stood quiet for a moment. Veronica continued to stare at the clock, anything to keep from noticing him. The longer she stared at the clock the longer it seemed to take for each second to pass. His cologne spread into her senses, intoxicating her. She was physically aware of the space he took up in the tight closet, if was as if her skin were a magnet, constantly pulling her in his direction. Their feet were just six inches apart. One step forward and…
"Staring at that won't make the time pass by any quicker." His voice filled the closet again.
"What part of 'don't speak' wasn't clear to you?" Veronica was looking at him now and he had a stupid smirk on his face. She wanted to smack the smirk off his face if only to feel his skin on her palm.
"When did you and Archie get back together."
"When did you become a Serpent?" Veronica bit back.
"What does that matter?"
"It matters and you know it." She gritted, glaring hard into his green eyes.
"Will you love me any less?" he teased, taking a step forward. Veronica takes a step back, trying and failing to keep the distance between them when her back hits the wall and their shoes are touching.
"I don't love you at all now." Her voice strains under the presence of him. Their noses almost touching.
"Is that so?" He chuckles. Low and deep the sounded reaches the depth of her stomach.
"I feel nothing for you." She states, as if trying to command her heart to stop beating so recklessly, trying to command her skin to stop reaching so desperately for him, pulling away from her bones, desperate for a touch from him.
"Nothing?" He repeats.
"No, actually, that would be a lie." Her voice turns ice cold. "Because I hate you." But he sees straight through to her heart, beating almost as hard as his.
Jughead brings his hand up to the side of her neck, his thumb caressing her jaw. Her body tenses in a painful relief, relief that makes her bleed for more than just his hand on the side of her neck.
He pulls her forward so their chests are now flush together, her phone falling from her hands. His hand slowly wraps tightly around her neck. A heat grows in her belly that only he can cause. Their breathing had deepened, trying to keep their composure, her skin ached pleasantly where he held her neck.
"Just one kiss." he whispers, his lips brushing against hers. The feeling makes her joints weak.
"We can't." Veronica struggles to keep her voice firm.
"We shouldn't." Jughead agrees
"Just one kiss." Veronica breathes and Jughead presses his lips against hers, the both of them humming in sweet relief. Their bodies relaxing together at the taste of the other. Jughead's hands move to her waist, holding her in place as he kisses her deeper, their mouths fitting so perfectly together. Jughead kisses her deeply and for what feels like could be the rest of their lives.
Veronica pushes away from the kiss as if it's burned through her skin to her very core and it has. They lock eyes with a hunger burning inside of them. Breathing heavily as if just learning how to do it for the first time. They're silent for a moment, nothing but the sounds of their heavy breathes to fill the space.
"Nobody can know." She states. Jughead nods in agreement. "No one can know."
Veronica puts her hands on his chest, shoving him back into the wall, hungrily reconnecting their lips. Jugheads lips move with hers like they've done this dance since the beginning of time. She slips her hands underneath his shirt and he groans into her mouth when her hands come into contact with his bare, ink covered skin. She's missed tracing the lines of black painted over his skin for months. She couldn't decide where to keep her wandering hands. She needed to touch all of him.
Jugheads hands gripped her thighs and lifted her into the air, dress riding up to her hips as her legs wrapped tightly around his waist as he spun them so it was her back against the wall. Her hands found his hair while their mouths moved frantically, trying to memorize and savor every taste, every detail, every sound, every touch. Jugheads mouth moved from hers down her jawline and to her neck and she melted into him further. She never knew it was possible for someone to have so much power over her.
As she pushed his Serpent jacket off his body to reveal tattooed arms, he realized that he didn't know how to stay away from this girl. The girl that tasted like honey and sounded even sweeter. He was desperate to never spend another second pretending he didn't need to touch her. He pulled her closer, so close it hurt her but she didn't complain, bodies crushed into one another, it still wasn't enough.
Jughead gripped the skin on her thighs so tightly she was sure it would bruise but she loved the high that came with the pain of being in his grasp. She loved bearing marks that came from him.
The timer on V's phone started to ring and neither of them heard it at first, not until the knocking at the door brought them back to the surface and reality came flooding through the spell they'd been under. A part of Veronica didn't want to care, let them be found tangled in one another, let everything they know and love crash and burn as long as she didn't have to stop breathing him in.
But the better part of her, the part of her that tore open when Betty trusted Veronica coming into this closet in the first place, unwrapped her legs from Jugheads waist. She pushed him away and started searching frantically for her phone. "Shit. Shit. Shit." She cursed, picking the device up and silencing it.
Jughead was behind her, pulling her dress back down to where it was supposed to be when the door opened. Jughead straightened out as the crowd staired at them, Archie and Betty front and center, Jughead and Veronica's hair flustered and out of place, their faces flushed, lips swollen, jacket missing and out of breath.
Veronica's heart broke when she saw the look on Betty's face. "You backstabbing bitch." Betty's voice was small and in pieces.
Betty turned and pushed through the crowd. Archie stood silent for a moment longer, staring hard at Jughead, his jaw clenched. Archie moved to turn and head the same way Betty did. But at the last second he turned back and punched Jughead directly in the face.

1. Isn't the official ship name vughead, that's what they say in the show. 2. Do you just act like the poly between the 4 didn't happen and it was just vughead near the end? 3. Do you acknowledge the fact that Jughead cheats on Veronica by kissing Tabitha and then never tells her(at least not to our knowledge)? (just so you know I'm not trying to be mean, I hope it doesn't come off that way, I've just had these questions for vughead fans and I never really asked any.)
I'll answer these in the same order you asked.
1.) Yes, in the show the ship is called "Vughead". But, I don't know of any Jeronica shipper that prefers that name. They were given that name as a counterpart to "Bughead". They used the same naming convention as Barchie/Varchie (the second part of Archie's name being the suffix). Like, it isn't "Tughead" for Tabitha and Jughead it's "Jabitha". However, we don't prefer "Jeronica" because we don't want it to be associated with Bughead. We prefer it because "Vughead" just sounds ugly lol. (Think Mondler/Chanica. One is "official" but one clearly is a better sounding portmanteau lol)
2.) I won't speak for all JV shippers, but I (and the other shippers I know) don't ignore the Quad. It is something that happened in their senior year of high school. However, it was made very clear in the show that it ended when they graduated. The timeline goes like this: For the rest of Junior year, JV and BA dated individually, beginning somewhere at the start of senior year the quad happened, the quad broke up right after graduation, JV find their way back to each other or make a long distance relationship work. Because while they "satisfied" themselves with the quad, they realized who their forever person was. (However, I'm on the hunt for a great S7 quad fic!)
3.) I don't believe he cheated. Cheating implies there was intent to be duplicitous. Jughead was saying goodbye. He was saying goodbye to a life he once had and a person circumstance denied him when the "new" timeline was created. Knowing how relationships in the 50s were I don't think Veronica would have found much problem in it either. (it is not the same as today where you are basically exclusive from the beginning. Going steady was a big deal and before a couple went steady they usually dated a few people at the same time. This is why in the comics Archie choosing between Betty and Veronica was seen as 'normal teenage angst/drama'. The comics never present him moving between girls as "cheating".) Also, I don't think that Jughead remembered the kiss either. So, there was nothing really to fess up to. I imagine that those viewing the memory movie (no idea why Tabitha couldn't make a film reel of it and have it shown on the projector but oh well! lol) were in a sort of trance and time sort of stopped around Jughead and Tabitha and then restarted when he took his seat again.
I totally don't take your questions as mean! I love answering questions like this. I think that there is so much nuance to Riverdale as a whole and the relationships (familial, platonic, romantic, etc) within them! So, thanks for asking!

10 reasons FPlice should have been endgame
Ooh the FP thoughts continue! Unfortunately I couldn't come up with ten.
1. For Alice's sake. With FP in her life but with her life on the good side of town continuing, she would have been able to reconcile her split identity a bit better.
2. For Jughead's sake, because FP staying in Riverdale would've given him some sort of anchor.
3. It would have made their hooking up AFTER their children get together less creepy and more a considered decision by adults, rather than what it was. Their being endgame could've been about finding lasting second love decades later with the same person.
4. For angst purposes, Bughead breaking up even as their parents keep it together would've made for fun drama.
5. FP redemption could've been achieved through Falice. He would've stuck to a decision instead of jumping from one unhinged ex to yet another unhinged ex for the shittiest of reasons - I.e. he doesn't wanna do the hard work of parenting for either of his known children.

2023 FFRC - September🍂
Hello friends! I hope you've had a wonderful September. We've started my daughter's senior year with her choosing to join the high school football team instead of the soccer team (to the shock of everyone - including her soccer coach). Therefore, we've been spending every Friday night at the field - and she scored a touchdown in her first game - so that's exciting.
My 2023 @fanfic-reading-challenge is nearly complete. The challenge has various completion levels - and if you're looking for something to help motivate you to read new things or expand your range - or even if you just want to challenge yourself, you should join us. You don't have to wait until the new year to start - and there are a bunch of us on the Discord server and it's a really nice and encouraging place to be.
–*–
September 2023
Tumblr media
I read 58 new stories this month - and nearly 300 chapters. I'm closing in on 17 million words, so my year-long goal of 20 million words still isn't out of the realm of possibility. I also did a few podfic recordings... and was highly critical of all of them so I didn't post them. Maybe after I get more practise. lol.
Anyway, I’ve gathered a couple recs. I hope you enjoy them. 💖
–*–
before i knew which life was mine (3 fic series) by @smc-27 (Harry/Allie - The Society)  Summary: She’s got this weird feeling that everything with him is so natural and normal that there’s no way to imagine them not eventually ending up friends. Which is a fucked up thought, because prior to all this, all they had ever shared were barbs back and forth, or her calling him out on being a jerk to her sister. Notes: Okay - so this series is three separate fics that feel like they're unconnected - but really they are completely connected. They're like different dimensions or universes where Harry and Allie were friends (and they don't stay just friends). These are the "other worlds".
–*–
The Percy/Jenna Anon Collection by Anonymous (Percy/Jenna - RPF - All E) Fic 1 - Howlin’ For You - A night of drunken UNO leads to explicit actions between two friends who have been secretly sleeping together. Fic 2 - Lonely Boy - A surprise visit between two friends, a phone call, and a splash of angst. And sex. Fic 3 - Gold on the Ceiling - When Jenna tells Percy it’s over she’s not sure what that means for either of them. And she doesn’t even begin to understand the gravity of her choice until she’s forced to put work on hold for the actor’s strike. Has she even been living? Or merely existing.. Light angst, heavy sex? But it’s introspective? Notes: Okay - so RPF isn't for everyone. It is for me though. This series was written by the same Anon author (it's very clear that it's the same author) - I don't know who it is, but they deserve a huge cookie. I cried during the third one. And then had to fan myself. It's an odd conundrum. The writing is amazing. I would read a million more stories by this author - rpf or fandom or whatever. If I can only figure out who they are. 😉
–*–
three conversations about one thing by @imreallyloveleee (Bughead - T)  Summary: He’d known there would be consequences when he made this decision. But he hadn’t realized how quickly they might steamroll right over him. (Jughead & Veronica & Cheryl & Betty & memories of the future. Set post-7x19.) Notes: An absolutely lovely post-script on the final season of Riverdale.

she hasn’t seen him in over seven years, but he’s seen her.
jughead doesn’t usually watch the news, but in the middle of turning on the tv and taking some medicine to ease the killing hangover he had, he didn’t have time to change it before the news story caught his eye.
fbi trainee saved after weeks of captivity.
holy shit, he thinks to himself as he turns up the volume and leans forwards a little on the couch. the newsreader’s face is grim as she looks at him through the tv, sipping his coffee. as the story has already caught his eye he doesn’t turn it off. not even an agent being captured but a trainee? he’d expect they would be stepping away from the job by then.
“after just over two weeks of being held captive by the serial killer some are now nicknaming ‘the trash bag killer’, the agent is now safely recovering in hospital with no fatal injuries,” the newsreader continues as jughead leans back with another sip of coffee. “ms. betty cooper, a woman barely in her twenties, yet subject to such violence and terror...”
he chokes on his coffee. he sits and splutters on the bitter drink halfway down his throat and lets the mug sit back down on the coffee table, causing more to slop onto the surface. coffee is down his shirt and his chest hurts from coughing but he still turns up the tv to pay more attention.
“ms. cooper was found late sunday evening shaking and with some injuries, though luckily she was found before anything permanent could happen to her. she is recovering with friends and family and should be okay.”
jughead had to turn the tv off when pictures of the crime scene started flashing on the screen, suddenly feeling violently sick.
the apartment was too silent as his head fell into his hands as he tried to process what he had just heard. betty had been held captive? god knows what could have even happened to her. was she hurt badly? was she starved? was she tortured? the thought was enough for his breakfast to make it’s way up his throat and jughead barely made it to the kitchen sink before the contents of his stomach were emptied into the sink.
he debated on grabbing his phone and calling her, but he couldn’t do that. she had just been through probably the most traumatic experience of her life (although she had been through a lot of those) and he doubted she wanted her ex high school boyfriend calling her.
as he still felt nauseous jughead settled with sitting on the kitchen floor as he still tried to process the fact that betty had been kidnapped and held by some psycho. before he knew it there were tears in his eyes and he squeezed them shut as his head fell against his knees, memories of betty, his betty, that he had pushed to the back of his mind for years suddenly swarmed around his mind.
when he saw her again in person he really didn’t know what to expect. how much could that event had changed her? he knew that she was resilient but christ she had been through so much. he was nervous the whole journey to riverdale, sick to his stomach even.
but when he saw her she seemed exactly like the same person he’d been with seven years ago. she was smiling and laughing and looked like she was enjoying herself. maybe he had been wrong. there had to be more than one betty cooper out there, right? maybe this betty wasn’t the one.
he met her eyes with an awkward hello before he sat next to her in the booth, trying not to look at her too much. conversation flowed and after mention of archie’s enrolment in the army and his book, betty brought up that she was training with the fbi.
and he felt sick again. it had happened to her.
he decided to go against telling her that he knew, he decided with a glance at her again. she seemed happy to not be thinking about it and he didn’t want to upset her.
he just hoped she really was okay, even though he knew she couldn’t be after that.

love while you can ~ a bughead drabble
Tumblr media
"Go away, Jones," Veronica says, pushing on his chest as he tries to sidestep her, tries to get past her to the person he wants to see, needs to see. "She doesn't need this right now."
He feels himself being pulled, needing to be closer to her, something deep in the very marrow of his bones, something from long before Jessica had dropped a bomb on him, and he had seen Betty fleeing into Veronica's house, tears spilling down her cheeks.
But Veronica, surprisingly strong, blocks his path. "I said leave, Jughead. You are the last person she needs to see right now. You need to leave her to heal."
He feels himself deflate, feels pricked like a balloon at the thought that Betty needs to heal from him.
And they'd been so close. So close to being back, close to something good. He'd gotten to hold her again, kiss her, feel her asleep and breathing against him. It had been so good, and he was so happy.
And then Jessica had collapsed into him, right in front of Betty, with Veronica standing behind her and she had told him the news.
"I'm pregnant, Jones. It's yours."
The words are harsh. They're abrupt and he can do nothing but watch Betty's face over Jessica's head as she slowly takes in the news, and what it means.
He's sure, absolutely positive that this will stay with him forever. To watch the light dim in Betty's eyes, to watch her fight back tears, try to paste the stone faced Cooper mask on, to see her turn around and just catch a glimpse of tears spilling as Veronica slides an arm around her and leads her away.
And now, to be turned away, and to be told that she is finally asleep, exhausted after breaking for hours in her best friend's arms, and to know that he did this to her. That those words that he had once imagined coming from someone else had cut he and Betty apart forever, and to know that finally, entropy had taken its natural course.
Everything tends towards chaos, towards destruction, and he was fool enough to think he and Betty may finally be spared that.

currently verklempt about the thought that Jughead and Betty both still love each other, but the biggest divide between them isn’t that Betty kissed Archie in high school, but that Jughead knows that no one can hurt him like Betty can and no longer trusts that she won’t.

it's nice to have a friend, ch. 14
He’d loved Betty for so long.  Before he’d truly believed in the word love, he was pretty sure he had still loved Betty.  He would recall faint childhood memories and realize that the common denominator and all of his best memories was none-other than Betty Cooper.  For a while, those memories haunted him.  He could no longer look back at the formative years of his youth without a painful tightness in his chest, and all he wanted was to find Morpheus and take the little blue pill.
But they had started to fade, and while they were still painful to think of, Jughead no longer felt the need to double over in pain.  Eventually he wasn’t thinking of her more than a couple times a month.
But here he was, sitting in the driver's seat of his truck, fingers clenching the wheel as if he were afraid to drive away.  He sees her again, in the flesh and not through his sister's occasional Instagram stories where he swears he sees a peek of blonde hair in the corner of the screen, and suddenly his mind is flooding with memories, and flashbacks are being triggered by something as mundane as a staircase.
She hadn’t meant anything by it.
She hadn’t meant anything by it.

First time ever posting something like this I honestly just want thoughts and opinions
WIP Wednesday kind of?
I’m not really a writer but I had this thought and I wrote it down 🤷‍♀️:
Betty had to do it she had to confront Jughead, not just Jughead she had to confront Veronica as well and tell her about her betrayal. She didn’t know why she did it it was stupid and ugly and she regretted it so much. She felt a deep pain in her gut of what she’s done, she knew there was probably no forgiveness she knew she would have to beg she wished she hadn’t done it but it was done.
She called Jughead and asked him to meet her in the bunker.
“What’s up Betty? You sounded pretty nervous over the phone is everything ok?” He asked he looked at her with concerned and caring eyes, he was loving she loved that about him.
Betty gave him a weak smile and took his hands in hers. “Let’s sit and talk”
“An I in trouble” Jughead asked jokingly but then his smile faded once he saw the troubling look on her face.
“I don’t ever want you to think you aren’t the best thing that has ever happened to me” Betty said with teary eyes.
“I’m just going to come out and say it Jug I kissed Archie”
Jughead’s face fell and the same feeling of confusion, pain and anger started to reform from when Betty broke up with him via Archie.

Prompt 38!!! Bughead
I have another one I got before this that I was going to post first but I made myself cry with this one so I had to post
I got mad emotional over the WesleyxFred/Illyria storyline from Angel the series for a minute and we have this now~
Bughead + clothes || TW: CHARACTER DEATH
The feeling of the knife in his gut, twisting before it was pulled away made his world stop. He took a shaky step back, watching the imp fly into a wall as Della marched into the room behind him.
He fell back into Della’s arms, slamming them both into the floor as she cradled his head.
“Jughead,” the blue-haired demon breathed, her arm wrapped around his shoulders as she looked down at him with concern in her eyes. She took his hand in one of hers, pursing her lips before she spoke again.
They both knew he didn’t have the time for any attempt at finding some way to save him.
The demon surprised him when she spoke again. “Would you like me to lie to you?”
After he had screamed at her so loudly that Archie had pulled him out of what used to be Betty’s lab the last time she had transformed herself from the ugly demon into his Betty Cooper, Della had promised to refrain from pretending to be her.
Clothes and all.
Jughead felt his eyes mist up as he nodded.
Della smiled sweetly as her icy blue eyes shifted to a familiar green; the strange blue scaling along her hairline faded away, appearing more blonde with each passing second.
It had been an unlikely alliance after what Della did to the only woman he had ever loved, but the demon had been a formidable ally against the end of the world, alongside Archie and the rest of his team.
They had only had one day- one beautiful day together before she had been taken from him over the course of several hours of soul burning agony, leaving behind Della, the cold, unfeeling demon that had reluctantly joined their fight against the coming end of days. Immediately following her traumatizing death, Jughead had fallen, focusing only on training himself to be better, sharper, faster while the demon walked around in her body -albeit an aesthetically distorted version- as if she were allowed the shell of the kindest soul he had ever come to know.
His breath returned to him as the strange, sturdy battle armour the demon that now occupied her body usually wore faded away to the soft pink sweater Betty had died in. “Betty,” he gasped, openly letting his tears fall as she cupped his face in her hands.
“I’m here.”
He took a shaky breath at the sound of her voice. “I love you,” he whispered.
His eyes suddenly felt very heavy.
“I love you, too,” Betty whispered, leaning forward to kiss his forehead.
Jughead gripped the sleeve of her sweater, ignoring the blood smearing along everything he touched, instead getting lost in the feeling of the familiar cotton below his fingertips.
Betty reached out to grip his chin, forcing his gaze to hers. She looked like an angel kneeling above him. “You’re a good man.” Betty’s eyes watered and he couldn’t hold back his surprise.
Jughead smiled, reaching up to cup her chin. “Will you miss me?”
She nodded, leaning forward to kiss his forehead. As her forehead rested against his, a tear dripped down onto his cheek. “I will fight for you,” she promised.
He smiled, rubbing his thumb along her cheek.
“Rest now,” Betty whispered as his eyes slipped shut.
send me an ask with a number and I’ll write a thing~

When We Were Young
What if FP Jones ended up going to college and Alice Smith stayed on the Southside? A Midnight Club AU by @peaceblessingspeyton
I made a little edit for @peaceblessingspeyton‘s current fic, which is centered in a universe where Alice stayed in the Southside and FP went off to college. It’s a wonderfully deep look into how different Jughead and Betty’s lives would be if their parents lives took opposite turns. @peaceblessingspeyton takes us on a journey between three different time lines. One goes back to when Alice and FP were teenagers, another takes place while Jughead and Betty are teens and falling in love (a classic opposites attract kind of vibe), and a current grown up Jughead and Betty, coming to paths again after everything that happened back in high school. I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next, and often have tears in my eyes. And I am delighted to see it all play out. It’s full of angst, which is my #1 love, and just super sweet at times. You see the struggles they both face and you just want to wrap them both up and tell them it’ll be okay. She develops the characters so well that it’s easy for me to understand why some of the more difficult scenes happen. I personally am not someone who enjoys purely fluffy fics where no one has any flaws and everyone’s a saint. People aren’t like that, we all feel the weight of the world and it affects us all, makes us all do things we regret, even right as it’s happening. If you’re someone who is into angst, and likes deeper, more complex flawed characters then I highly recommend this masterpiece.
Thank you, Peyton, for writing it. I seriously, truly love every second.

134: ‘You drive me fucking crazy.’
———
The Choice
Betty had a dilemma, of course, including boys.
Archie Andrews: football player; gorgeous jock; extremely fit; bit of a player but pretty naïve; wouldn’t know if he was being cheated on or double crossed; positive guy; status; comfort over excitement.
Or Jughead Jones: makes her blood rush.
This wasn’t high school anymore. Betty was looking for something more…realistic, more long-term, practical. And that just wasn’t Jughead.
The given deadline was the 25th September, 10am. That was the day she said she would reveal her choice.
She doubted whether Jughead Jones would wait for her, though. Archie Andrews definitely, but the Jones boy was a bit more hidden regarding his thoughts and intentions.
And so that’s why when she heard the tapping at her window, she practically jumped out of her bed. She rushed to the window, lifting it up, “What the hell are you doing here?”
He grinned mischievously, “Good evening, m’lady.”
“Nope, not-“
“Not yet,” he pulled himself up into her room.
“How did you even…?” She peered over the window ledge, watching the ladder fall to the side, hitting a tree in the process.
“Well, there goes my exit. Not that I intended on there being one.”
She rolled her eyes, before hearing a knock at the door, “Betty?”
Leaving her bedroom, she hurried towards the front door of the apartment, turning around to wave Jughead off. “Go back in there,” she whispered.
Hands up in defence, walking back, “Damn, two booty calls in one night?”
“I didn’t call you. Or him. Either of you for that matter.”
He chuckled before closing her door quietly.
She opened the one in front of her to reveal a tired-looking puppy-eyed Archie.
“Arch, what are you-“
Inviting himself in, he interrupted and paced around the living room, “I’m sorry, Betty. I know you said you’d tell me tomorrow, I just, I can’t sleep thinking…I can’t sleep. And I know you probably have already made up your mind, but if that isn’t me, then is there anything I can do to change your mind? Because if there is, I would do it. I promise that. And that Jug-had? Is that his name? Whatever it is, he doesn’t seem reliable. He may be…good-looking or whatever, but Betty…”
He held the open-mouthed girl’s hands in his own, “Betty, I love you. I have been wanting to say it for a while, and I just, I can’t hold it in anymore. I love you, Betty.”
Lowering his voice to a desperate, pleading tone, “Please, choose wisely, Betty. He’s not practical, I can offer you so much more. We can have a future together. Whatever you want, I’ll do it, I’ll give it, I’ll be it.”
Deep down she knew, how ever much he tried, there was one thing they could never have.
Passion.
She released a smile, “Thank you, Archie. Those are very…heartfelt words, and I will take them into consideration. Thank you for being patient with me too. I’ll see you later-“
A loud voice interrupted her polite response, “Jug-had? What the fuck is that? Have you ever heard of such a ridiculous name? I think the fuck not. Archibald? That’s weird as fuck.”
Archie swallowed as he saw the dark-haired man exit her bedroom, with no shirt on. He looked at Betty, then at Jughead, then back to Betty.
Betty found her mouth hanging open, once again, eyes full of pleading as Archie let go of her hands.
“Arch, it isn’t what it looks like, I promise. He just came-“
“And landed in your bed?”
She could see Jughead ruffle his hair, looking pretty smug.
“No, Arch, you have to believe me-“
“Betty, just…just answer me this, were you going to choose me?”
Betty wanted to speak, she really did. Just to say anything. But yet, once again, she found herself speechless.
He scoffed before walking out, “Call me when you make up your mind, for good. Time’s running out.”
Betty sighed before turning to face Jughead, “What the fuck, Jughead? I told you to go-“
“Go hide? Why were you embarrassed of me being here? Unless you were trying to hide your decision from Archie?”
She laughed dryly, “Oh my God, Jughead. You’re insane. You’re actually ridiculous. Has it ever occurred to you that I didn’t want Arch to jump to conclusions and assume my decision was made? Has it ever even occurred to you, that you aren’t the right choice?”
He swallowed at the way her voice carried the nickname ‘Arch’.
Of course that occurred to him. All the damn time. And of course he would put up an egotistical front, to hide the self-deprecating truth.
And of course she would choose ‘Arch’.
“Betts-“
“No, Jughead. Can you please just…go home. Go get some rest.”
He didn’t have anywhere to go.
“Please,” her eyes pleaded.
Not wanting to argue, he walked out. But not for good. Not this time.
***
Betty woke up with the warm sunlight hitting her face.
Checking her phone, a particular message stood out: “Delivery?” With an attached photo. Not bothering to check it, she found herself getting out of bed, to sleepily walk towards the front door.
6am.
Way too early to be up.
Pulling it open, she saw a dozing Jughead, gripping a bouquet of roses, snoring lightly.
Chuckling to herself, she pulled his arm, walking the half-asleep young man inside her apartment.
“You drive me fucking crazy, you know that?”
“In bed too,” he mumbled.
Biting down her smile, she pulled her arms away when he sat on the bed, lying back. She was going to go get some water, when his strong arm wrapped around her, and pulled her down with him.
She giggled lightly as he nuzzled his face into her hair.
“This is against the rules.”
“I’m against the rules.” He muttered, sleepily.
“You have a point there.”
“Archie may be the practical choice, but Betts, I’m the exciting one. The one that drives you fucking crazy.”
She looked over at him, as he fell into a deep sleep, their legs entangled.
He was right.
Archie was an exceptional option.
But Jughead was the exception.
