I love the idea of Isaac being afraid of bugs tbh, he just seems like the type. Here's another snippet from Bug kid bumbercatch!

Isaac did not seem placated in the slightest, still using Colin as a human shield between himself and the bug, but he nodded somewhat reluctantly to let Ted know that he was hearing what he was saying even if he didn’t agree with it at all. (“Don’t worry boyo,” Colin assured Isaac, patting his friends shoulder sympathetically “I won’t let it get you.”)

absolutely! Jamie, much to Isaac's dismay, is very interested in the bugs. Or at least he's interested in this particular one.

“It’s harmless,” Bumbercatch insisted, turning instead towards Jamie and Sam, who were part of the interested crowd. “It’s a rhinoceros beetle. It’s a male too, you can tell by the horn.” “What’s the horn do?” Jamie asked, reaching out to poke the beetle a bit before pulling his hand away quickly in case it happened to use said horn to swipe at him. Ted watched wearily, trying to decide the best way to intervene. It didn’t look like the kinda bug you wanted to be messing with, even with Moe’s insistence that it was harmless.

Moe had always liked insects. There was a book on them in the school library that he’d found, all about how to identify insects in your backyard. He borrowed it so much that his name was the only name on the slip. He used to go looking for them, armed with a little green pale and a plastic magnifying glass that had a crack in it because he’d stolen it from his older brothers rubbish bin.

for the first time in a little while, I come bearing gifts of something other than Jamie vs Bedtime. This snippet is from the next kindergarten tactics installment, Bug Kid Bumbercatch

Isaac seemed to be trying to climb up Colin like he was a tree to get as far away from Moe’s new friend as possible and Ted really didn’t want Bumbercatch suffering from any kind of bug related injury. “well ain’t that interesting,” He said, drawing the attention away from Bumbercatch to himself. Isaac seemed relieved that he was there. “Gaffer, make him put the demon bug down.” Isaac demanded, pointing at Bumbercatch and the beetle emphatically. “He’s not a demon bug!” Moe cried, cradling the beetle close his his chest protectively and pouting at Isaac. “it’s not his fault you’ve got no taste.”

Bug kid Bumbercatch my beloved! I am basically using it as an excuse to share all of my fun facts about bugs that I have saved up in my brain. The gist of it is that Moe likes bugs, and he keeps picking up random insects and creatures with his bare hands to show them off to his friends.

Reactions to Bumbercatch's bug obsession vary, and Ted would mostly just like for Bumbercatch to not get any bug related injuries on his watch please and thank you. Here's a snippet!

So Ted was already mentally drafting a speech about dangerous objects and how everyone should be keeping their hands to themselves as he hustled his way over to whatever was happening before it went spectacularly wrong. Isaac hadn’t stopped yelling, the demands to “back the fuck off” and “put it the fuck down” only increasing in urgency and volume as Ted got closer. A couple of the others had joined in with their own exclamations of disgust or concern, which did absolutely nothing to dissuade Ted’s worry. When he finally made it to the huddle though, it wasn’t one of his boys playing around with a discarded knife, no. It was Bumbercatch, holding a weird looking bug up with a grin while the others all watched on with various degrees of interest and horror. Ted, who had never been one for creepy crawlies, joined the horror crowd. The bug itself was a grotesque kind of thing. The size of Bumbercatchs palm, and a shiny brown colour it looked like it had on a suit of armour with a horn protruding from its head.

Bug kid bumbercatch means the world to me, there aren't enough bumbercatch fics out there and I am being the change I was to see in the world.

The good thing about being an adult with money that he could do whatever he wanted with, was that he could keep as many bugs as he liked in his house and he didn’t even have to hide them under his bed.

Do you have any big facts (not in your upcoming fic) that you would like to share? I LOVE info dumps!

I absolutely do! Less of a bug fact and more of a arachnid fact, I really really wanted to include the ladybird spider in the bug kid bumbercatch fic.

They are one of my absolute favorite spiders. They're a kind of velvet spider and they get their name from the fact that the males of the species literally look like lady bugs. Their butts are red with black spots, and I personally think they're adorable. The females are also pretty cute, they're Very Shaped, but they are fully black rather than red and black. They live in burrows and they will sometimes decorate their webs with the bodies of their prey which I think is cool as hell!

The reason I couldn't include them in the bug kid bumbercatch fic is because they're an endangered species, and incredibly rare. They're typically only found in wildlife reserves, specifically in Dorset, so the chances of one randomly popping up in the locker room for Bumbercatch to make friends with them is pretty slim. They were actually thought to be extinct, but they were redisocovered in 1979!

I've been sitting on the first chapter of bug kid bumbercatch for weeks trying to decide if I should post it all at once or in slow increments like I did for Jamie vs Bedtime, so I haven't made any progress on it in ages but I've finally made up my mind about what I'm going to do, so for you here's the final snippet before I post the first chapter!

“I am not fucking around Bumbercatch put it down!” Isaac ordered, snapping his fingers towards the ground to extenuate his request. Bumbercatch just laughed, holding it out towards Isaac who jumped back and hid behind Colin, holding onto his friends shoulder for dear life.

“Well Jamie, I don’t know how comfortable I feel letting you head home in this weather.” Ted said, hands in his pockets and looking emphatically out the window where the rain was beating down heavily. “are you sure you don’t want to just stay?” Jamie would probably be fine to go home. the rain wasn’t actually that bad. Ted probably just thought it was, because he’s from fucking yeehaw sunshine land where rain didn’t exist. But home would be empty. Roy was gone for the night, babysitting Phoebe for Sarah while she had a night shift and he wouldn't be back until the morning. and Ted was offering, it wasn’t like Jamie was just inviting himself over or nothing. “yeah,” he said, after a moment of hesitation. “sounds mint.”
