LOL. YouTube just made a mix for me and it's mostly Buffy/Angel amvs (even though I've mostly been watching Final Fantasy stuff recently). They know me well.
#and some of these videos i've never even seen before. like i could understand it if all of these videos in this collection were things i'd#watched before but they're not (i don't think so anyway. unless i watched them ages ago when i was searching good bangel amvs and these one#didn't leave an impression). fascinating!#although it's funny because youtube keeps recommending me buffy/spike videos lately. but meanwhile it pretty much makes me an all#buffy/angel mix. lol

Fellow spuffy shipper here, and i'm so curious to know how you became such a spuffy lover considering this is your first watch and you're only in s2?? Excellent taste btw !!
hi fellow spuffy shipper!!
the thing you need to know about me is that iām a big time spoiler girl lol. so even though iām only on season 2, iāve seen fan edits, watched clips, read metas, and read a lot of spuffy fics.
iāve always been into enemies to lovers so spuffy was always on my periphery even before i really noticed. and then i was impatient so i spoiled myself and started consuming a lot of fan media lol.
but alsoā i firmly believe iād ship spuffy even going in blind based on a few things.
spike not wanting to fight kendra and gleefully switching to fight with buffy when she offersā¦ him sending vamps out to learn her fighting styleā¦ buffyās āhoney, iām home!ā when she knocks out of her trance to beat him in the halloween episodeā¦
plus i think theyāre foreshadowing their future alliance pretty well. itās clear that spike only went along with the whole ~rebuilding the judge~ thing to make dru happy, and jamesā acting in the background when heās resurrected is great.
itās this weird mix of ādru is happy, i did good!ā and āoh fuck, i think i might regret thisā and it all plays out on his face without being focused on too much.
plus buffy is about to lose angel to angelus, and itās clear that dru isnāt capable of the love spike is, and canāt give him what heās deep down wanting from a partner.
itās all coming together!!!
so yeah. spoilers and fics. but also, season 2 is feeding me good already.

I'm back into Buffy
Started from season 4 this time because the first couple seasons are pretty slow on the... Spike front... and I'm nothing if not a Spike fan
Anyway I think the way vampires work in Buffy is that the demon that possesses a bitten person has their own personality and morals and wants, and then they get the memories and emotions of the body mixed in.
So a vampire is a blend of specific demon and human, and their actions depend on whichever part is stronger.
Angelus is a very strong demon and the human was very weak-willed, so when he gets un-cursed he is mostly demon.
Spike, Harmony, others all have vampiric urges and twisted morals, but are ultimately driven by their human personalities.
So when Spike comes around to the "good" side, it's because he's learned to embrace the human part of him and overcome the base urges of his demon half, but when Angel is "good" it's because he's had the demon part suppressed behind the soul. The little pieces of personality aren't enough for him.
Now, it's been a few years since I watched it all the way through, so I'm proclaiming this all headcanon until I catch up and disprove myself lol

Angel and Nina made more sense than Angel and Cordelia š
Cangel was just so terrible? It made no sense with the lore and the character histories and how āepicā they were trying to make it seem (and failing). At least with Nina it was established that it wasnāt some āgreat loveā but more of a casual thing where two people are hanging out, and of course it helps prove that itās not sex that makes Angel lose his soulā¦which is ridiculous that people still think that.
Yeah, from what I remember of Angel and Nina, it was definitely one of those normal relationships where you enjoy each other's company but it isn't that "I want to spend the rest of my life with you, you complete me" kind of love. It wasn't even love I think. She was definitely more into it than him for sure, but that's probably for he best considering the circumstances.
Cangel is so...I honestly can't believe they were SO awful together? Like the whole season was CRINGE, and the whole thing with Connor was HORRIFIC, but I just don't even believe that Angel and Cordelia are two people in love??? LOL. It's two people performing love, but they have NOTHING. It's negative chemistry, holy shit. But yeah, I don't blame people for thinking that because the show definitely gives mixed messages. So much of the early seasons is Cordelia being like DON'T FUCK ANYONE AND LOSE YOUR SOUL. Then Wesley says...no, do you realize how rare what Buffy and Angel had is? It's not the sex, it's Buffy. Then Cordelia goes RIGHT back to, DON'T FUCK ANYONE OR LOSE YOUR SOUL! And that's just how it...stays. So it's mixed signals there for sure and I resent every second of that lol.

some btvs-verse ships for your ask game: Spike/Drusilla, Willow/Kennedy, Buffy/Willow, Angel/Cordelia
Sprusilla: 7.5-8 they have a type of monster couple charisma and playfulness that really appeals to me! Not a full 8 only because I donāt feel that I think of them enough when theyāre not on my screen to warrant it but I do love themā¦I tend to love the Buffyverse villain couples lol.
Willow/Kennedy: solid 5/10 I donāt have the active dislike for them or for Kennedy herself many do in fact I like Kennedy okay, but I would have preferred Willowās next romance to be with Faith or Anya, an already fleshed out character sheād had chemistry with in the past and who had a storyline/redemption arc going on of her own with complementary themes to Willowās, and trying to shoehorn in a new character and whole new dynamic didnāt work after how impactful Tara was. Hard indifferent ultimately.Ā
Buffy/Willow: currently will give them a 6.5 but this is one Iāve gotten more intrigued by romantically in recent years, and I wonder if when I get around to my next rewatch the rating will increase. I primarily love their friendship and how complex/interesting it is but I do like to muse about them having crushes on each other in the early seasons especially Willow having a crush on Buffy circa s3, and can see a basis for an s7 onwards romance, theyāre also one third of my favorite Buffyverse ot3 (not counting like. the whirlwind ot4 which is in itās own league to me as itās basically canon) which is Buffy x Faith x Willow will say I feel more about/ am significantly more into both Faith ships in that equation but the parallels between Faith and Willowās dynamics with Buffy are tasty for char exploration, especially through a queer lense. A lot of themes I enjoy a lot in that mix. But I will say that a reason it took me a while to warm to them as a ship compared to a lot of other f/f Buffyverse dynamics is that, with the exception of a couple distinct scenes, I donāt tend to feel SMG and Alysonās chemistry has as much of a shippy leaning compared to how both of them play off a lot of the other actresses Eliza Charisma Amber, Amy when Willow guest stars on Ats, Alyson and Emma, SMG and Bianca or even Juliet, I think they have more chemistry than Willow and Kennedy but that bar isnāt high and idk how much of that is chemistry vs depth of emotional content. But itās a fascinating dynamic that I can see / enjoy in a shippy way depending how itās done.Ā
Cangel: 8 / 10, I love them!! Itās a testament to how well they work for me overall that they have this rating even with the Connor stuff and me knocking some points for how bad that was I think they would be even higher otherwiseā¦ one of my favorite friends to lovers tv pairings and heart breaking in the end.Ā
Ty!
(Send me ships and Iāll rate them)

okay, time to watch the last episode of Buffy
I'm excited and have high hopes tbh š it's the finale, it's gotta be good haha
so, my immediate thoughts throughout the whole episode are under the cut:
(warning: long post)
I know it's a drama, I know that, but adding Angel-Buffy-Spike just at the very end is like ughhhh why
like, it is kinda funny how worked up Angel got over it (and Spike having a soul when Angel "started it" š) but come on, this is annoying lol
I like the ending of that convo tho
wait, so that was it for Angel here? aw, I thought he'd fight with them... oh well, I have a whole other season with him, so whatever haha
apparently there wasn't enough relationship drama this season so they're really packing it in here huh
actually, I know that Spike's gonna be in ats s5 so I'm really curious how this episode will turn out haha
I'm intrigued by this plan Buffy has ngl - opening the seal? wtf?
honestly, I think that the amount of inspiring speeches this season is more than all the other seasons together š its kinda funny but some of them were so cringe sns š this one was good tho
Faith is so fucking hot my god - I don't care about whatever's happening with her and Wood tho
I like Kennedy and Willow, and I'm happy Willow's happy and that she could move on - but personally, I will never ever move on from Tara, this is still too fresh (fr, I didn't watch Buffy for like two months after Tara was shot, I'm still not fine and I miss her)
omg they're giving all potential slayers the power??? I love this so fucking much omg
this is so fucking cool
wait, they're all dying? wtf?
that was... probably supposed to be cool, but.... š like, they were losing, and suddenly Buffy just stands up and everyone's immediately doing so much better š I shouldn't laugh, that was an intense and emotional scene, but like.... lmao
what the hell is happening to Spike
what is happening in general, that fight was so fucking quick (tho I'm kinda glad it was tbh)
wait what
but Spike's in ats? I'm so confused
soooo Sunnydale doesn't exist anymore?
Anya's dead?? it shouldn't make me this happy lmao I've been asking for this since s4, even if it is the very last episode, I'm so glad lmao
so that's it huh
idk, I have mixed feelings
I'm very curious about Spike bc I know he's in Angel, I saw like a poster or smth, and 5x01 description literally says that Spike and Harmony come to LA so šš»āāļø
this episode felt too long but also too short, kinda rushed, especially the second half, and kinda anticlimactic? š idk, can't put my finger on why
I loved how they did the spell and now every potential is a Slayer and there's more than one - bc it has been such a huge theme through the whole show how alone Buffy feels in this, even with all her friends etc, that she's the only one, the one responsible for saving the world time and time again, and no one fully understands it or can relate, and all of that is on her shoulders - but now they're all sharing that responsibility, can help each other, and they're just so powerful together
I loved that
I'm probably gonna make another post about my thoughts on the overall show, but the last couple of seasons I made posts about too so šš»āāļøš
this episode didn't really feel all finale-like idk, not sure how much I liked it as a finale
it definitely is nowhere near as perfect as s5 finale was, I cried so much at that one (and I read that s5 was supposed to be last one so I can't help but compare) - I think s5 was more emotional and also it was like: I need more
but this one was more like an actual conclusion and it does feel like a satisfying end, something just felt a bit rushed or smth idk - I feel like they eneded it in a good place, and how it ended for all of them feels mostly satisfying (except the curiosity about Spike is all I can think about rn šš)
overall, it was a good episode, I liked it, kinda meh finale (my mind might change tbh once I think about it, this is just first impression)
this episode felt... this is probably not the right word, but it's the only one I can think of: it felt distant (it doesn't make sense but this is how it feels, kinda detached for some reason, idk, I need to think about it before I made a post about the overall show haha)
I've been thinking about this episode for like half an hour and I think it's perfectly satisfying, but there's just something that bothers me that I didn't like and made me enjoy it less and I can't put my finger on why and it's driving me crazy lmao was it the pacing? who know lol
and the season as a whole was good, especially about halfway it picked up, with the potentials and the first and everything - gotta say, the first 10-ish episodes I was getting kinda bored, but when it picked up I was so invested I couldn't stop watching haha
so, I liked the season, tho it wasn't the best, but then again, final seasons rarely are lol
and I really really love this show, as much as I've been complaining about specific things and characters (and s4) - tbf, I'm Polish we complain a lot and I hate it but I can't help it, it's in my blood šš
this post is already too long, and it's late, so, there will be another post about s1-7 soon haha

Now the initial shock of seeing only one of the new wave of main couples in a show from these upcoming projects, I decided to go back and rewatch the GMMTV trailers. And to be honest, now Iām not sat here going āWho are you? And who the frick are you? Wait, you, I know, hurrah.ā I did come out thinking there were a number of shows Iāll likely give a chance, or at least check out the first episode.
Ployās Yearbook - looks cute and yay girls, but not for me I feel. Next!
We Are - mixed feelings for this one, but Iāll give it a chance. Iāve not really gotten into anything thatās a simple fluffy uni romance in what seems like forever, which is what this is giving, so itās going to have to charm the pants off me, have something about it & excellent characters/chemistry to keep me invested beyond 3 episodes. Happy to see PondPhuwin again, as well as MarcPawin. Not been super interested in the other two couples as of yet, but thatās mainly down to the few things Iāve seen them in, or shows Iāve skipped so maybe missed out on chances to get attached to them. 4 couples though, thatās a lot of cast to juggle but not impossible, and I guess it depends which are maybe main vs side couples and how complex their stories/relationships are. Fingers crossed their stories can be woven together well.
The Trainee - Iāll give it 1 episode to win me over. OffGun is an odd one for me. Theory of Love really didnāt endear them to me as a couple. I wasnāt keen on Offās character and to me the story just felt so drawn out. I was so put off that I couldnāt bring myself to watch the absolute masterpiece that is Not Me until much later, after realising First was in it. Not Me was a serious drama and OffGun were amazing. Iām waiting to see how they fair in something more recent that is on the lighter side so am planning to check out Cooking Crush when it finally gets here. If CC wins me over then I might go into The Trainee more excited. Though Iāve been enjoying the more serious shows recently, I still enjoy lighter stuff so if itās fun and can hook me with something, then Iāll maybe tune in past the first episode.
Only Boo - Iām glad I watched these trailers again as my first impression of this one was very much a nope. But I dunno, on a second watch it did seem far more charming than Iād given it credit for. Iām definitely going to watch the first episode, because I feel like maybe itāll pull a My School President on me where I wasnāt going to bother watching but then I did and it was one of the cutest and most fun things Iād ever watched and fell in love with the characters. So, though I still feel that it might not be my thing, if it brings the fun and charm in the first episode, then Iāll keep tuning in.
Pluto - definitely will be checking this one out. Iāve been waiting on 23.5 for forever (give it to me already) so Iām glad that a second GL is in the works. The plot looks pretty interesting so unless they somehow manage to mess everything up and make it terrible, I plan to be watching every week.
On Sale/Peaceful Property - havenāt looked up what the actual title is lol. Is this just bromancy? Again havenāt gone looking for an answer but it looks fun and ridiculous and TayNew are here (this gives me OTT New like he was in Warp Effect and Iām living for it) and Janhae who is my queen š. So yeah, I think this one could be really fun and spooky so shall be checking this one out for sure.
Ossanās Love - yay, a new EarthMix show. Really excited as enjoyed the original office-based season. (I mean the airport setting was cool and all but I missed my Maki in season 2š) Anyway, this could be pretty fun and EarthMix are my first loves. Guess weāll have to wait and see how long it takes to get the project going, but itās definitely one Iāll be watching when it comes out.
My Golden Blood - *narrows eyes* okay being a huge Buffy/Angel and Vampire Diaries fan back in the day Iām cautiously interested as do enjoy vampire stuff. Now having seen the trailer, this could be great or it could be kinda cringe. I guess it depends how the show is presented as I do love some campy horror fun but I imagine this is more on the serious side so weāll have to see how they balance things and how much flying and vampire hissing they do at each other come the proper thing. Joss and Gawin was not a pairing I was expecting but I could see it working. Also, with the special blood mention, kinda got me thinking about Kissable Lips. Anyway, shall be giving it an episode to win me over.
Kidnap - again, not gone looking but is this a BL or is it bromance/gonna look after you cos youāre like my little bro type thing? Either way, it looks kinda cool and shall be giving it a shot as love the bromance buddy action movie aesthetic. So the more competent protector and his hapless partner lol.
Summer Night - I know Iām not alone in thinking we had a DunkPhuwin series for a whole 5 seconds lol. Not my kind of show soā¦ next!
Wandee Goodday - this one Iām definitely interested in checking out. Seems a solid, on the mature side drama so hopefully itāll turn out great. Nothing much to add, just looking forward to this one.
High School Frenemy - never been a fan of this kind of enemy schools/classes in anime and manga so not planning on watching this at all. Enjoy if itās your kind of thing.
My Love Mix-up - I love the Japanese adaption, but like for Cherry Magic I have no knowledge of the manga or how close the live action versions were to the source material. As tv shows/stories I really like them, so will be interesting to see what differences there might be with these new versions. I think Gemini and Fourth were a great pick for this. Definitely watching this one.
Enigma 2 - didnāt watch Enigma 1 so until/if I ever get to that, this one will have to wait.
And there we have it. A few that interest me so definitely want to give a watch, and most of the others Iām willing to give a chance. Looking forward to hopefully seeing more of the āmerchandiseā couples in the 2nd part.

some further thoughts and opinions!!!!!!!!! ON THIS CAMPY FUN SEASON OF TV š
my personal s1 episode tier list:
1.12 prophecy girl was perfect, 1.11 out of mind out of sight has my whole cordy stanning heart, 1.07 angel has my whole angel, angel/darla angel/buffy stanning heart, 1.10 nightmares hit me way harder than i remembered- AND DOWN THE LINE WE GO TIL WE HIT 1.06 the pack, which is not an episode i hate so much as find incredibly boring. (honestly surprised 1.05 never kill a boy on the first date fell where it did on this watch, i remembered it being one of my fav eps of the season years ago)
character feelings rundown:
buffy is BABY. a perfect protag. best mix of girly girl, asskicker, snarky, deeply caring (the way she comforted amy trapped in her moms body, and billy the disembodied 12 year old? I'M SO!). my heart really breaks for her, esp towards the end of the season when we're really seeing much more vividly her melancholy over the life she lost (her fears that she caused her parents divorce, that her father hated her! her grief over her lost childhood, her nostalgia for when she was the popular girl winning crowns). and tbh she could have clawed her way back to it in a lot of ways, turned a blind eye, joined the popular crowd (which was on offer in ep 1!) but she chose to prioritize saving lives.
cordy is my #1 forever, even here when she's a blatantly bitchy bully. even after the scoobies save her life she's insulting them to their faces the second they have an audience. but even in just 12 episodes she grew so much! AND 11/12 ARE SUCH A ONE TWO PUNCH OF CORDY DEPTH AND EXCELLENCE! she's prepared to risk her own life to save willow and jenny! AND we actually see her connecting with buffy and willow in these last few eps, even in nightmares when we see her actually being vaguely nice to buffy over that nightmare test.
angel!!!!!!! i didn't expect all that much from him in s1, his presence is very limited. but by god did the angel episode pack a fuckton of punch. i think it helps that i know him, i know hes a megadork trying to pull off looking cool and mysterious to the youths. he hides in the shadows, not to be mysterious but bc he's a socially isolated nerd. ugh i love him. and his backstory with darla is given SO MUCH WEIGHT and made me so fucking emotional right there. and baby bangel is adorable. i'm not gonna think about how young buffy is lol i don't have it in me to interrogate age gaps in vampire fiction, not today
willow is sweet and she gained so much confidence over the season. i'll be honest tho and say that i still don't personally find her very interesting on her own merit, but i don't have any ISSUES with her at this point (tho i will say her utter lack of response to jesses death was a wild onscreen choice. was he really more of xanders friend than hers??). she's a solid member of the scoobies, i enjoy her as part of the group
giles is so cute! i love how much he still has to learn at this point in his watcher career. genuinely what has he been up to the last 20 years. he barely knows anything lmao. tho ofc i think he might also be flat out lying about some stuff bc of RIPPER PAST. his love for buffy already runs so deep so fast. even in WITCH he was so protective of her.
XANDER. i'm sorry but i love him here. he can be a dick, 100% i will not argue that. and i am deeply uninterested in his crush on buffy. but i'm invested in him and i enjoy him in this season. i love his snarky dick self and his bravery, his complete lack of faith in his intelligence and future hurts me on a personal level. ALSO kay i know we all know of the gay xander timeline but i'm feeling less and less like that's some alternate reality and more like xander is a man that needed to hit 30 before he was ready to grapple with it. maybe my brain is just plastered full of i saw the tv glow but xander reads as so heavily queer, whether thats in a sexuality or gender sense or both. i cannot unsee it! it feels so blatant!
for minor characters: snyder is such a fucking good bad guy. he's so entertaining with his small scale villainy. jenny is such an immediately great presence, she's so sparkly and she brings out such a funny side of giles. joyce is sweet, she loves buffy and is clearly TRYING. i really appreciate her relationship with buffy in this season, they are both busy women with busy lives but they try to make the time for each other (tho i have to say that s6 mental hospital retcon just. doesn't exist to me. it makes NO SENSE with s1 joyce, the two just don't click at all for me personally, and even trying to smash them together hurt my brain). harmony is p wild to behold in this era bc of everyone in this show her personality changes the least??? even tho she literally loses her soul?? i already miss darla SO MUCH. clawing at the walls to get baby princess back. the master was a solid villain! he was def around a lot less than i remembered. i suppose by virtue of his limitations, being trapped in his lil cave.
one season of buffy DOWN!
AND IT WAS DELIGHTFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Personally, I feel S1 is a very underrated season. There's some real gems in the mix! And no episodes I completely hate at all, with only one I am extremely MEH about. So yes! I loved it!!!!!!!!!! 6 more seasons (plus 5 more of angel!!!!!!!) to go ššš

Dreams that I've had recently:
Sora and Kairi's KHIV outfits were revealed, and Sora's was a mix of red and purple and Kairi's was a mix of pink and purple.
...
I dreamt about when Buffy and Angel met up in Buffy season 6/Angel season 3. The two of them were walking hand-in-hand through in the road through a dimly lit neighborhood around midnight, or something like that. And Angel was telling Buffy that she was the one constant in his life--and was just in general being a really good comfort to her, yet not forcing her to say or do anything she didn't want to do. I think they mostly talked, though there was also some touching, and they did go a bit further with each other than they had in a long time. It was a nice dream, and I wish we had gotten something like this in canon, dangit! They both deserved this comfort from each other! Especially Buffy after she got ripped out of Heaven!
...
Angelus, the night before he's going to destroy the world with Acathla, somehow shows up in Buffy's room and acts like he wants to be with her (read: sleep with her) one last time. And this is actually kind of true, but he's also trying to get information out of her to see what she knows about Acathla, and if she has any way of stopping his plan. But Buffy completely shoots him down, because, "Yeah, I totally buy you suddenly wanting to be with me. I've been the one loving you, despite everything, and you've been Joe Negative about me. Yeah right, you've suddenly had a change of heart."
...
This one wasn't recently, but one I may have actually had a year ago or something like that--that I might as well share now (since I'm talking about some Bangel dreams)--about Angel's mom (who was a vampire in the dream) planning to go after Buffy, and him begging her not to. I think this dream happened because I was reading a fic around the time, where this was a thing in it (not so much Angel begging his vamp mom not to go after Buffy), but that his mom was a vamp who wanted to kill Buffy. In this AU, Darla was Angel's mother.
...
Last night, I dreamt that the world had learned about Slayers... and because of that, how they presented themselves to the world was very important (they needed to look at their wardrobe and know that they could trust them). Basically, Buffy and Faith became the fashion police when it came to every other Slayer's outfit. LOL. It was cute and funny.
...
I had a dream that Max Evans from Roswell became a teacher.
...
Also last night, I dreamt both about Bridge to Terabithia/Jess and Leslie--which was both beautiful and sad, as Bridge to Terabithia is--and something about Sydney Bristow from Alias.
I think that's everything I've dreamt lately...
Yeah, I've been having a lot of crazy dreams.

ranking top 10 jokes on the Angel pilot
10- "breath mint?" angel still pretending to be drunk, to the vampire he is about to fight in the alley That first bit of the scene where Angel is going to fight those guys but he pushes the drunk act as far as he can... it was just funny to me, not only bc of the drunk act itself, but also because he didnāt have to take it that far! so to me he was having fun acting, because he is like a repressed drama kid. And also, why go so close to this guys mouth? lol he could have gotten close anyway, there was literally no reason, like wearing the Hawaiian shirt just to pretend for less than a minute he was a lost tourist. He just liked doing it. No other explanation.
9- "Mr I was alive for 200 years and never developed an investment portfolio" I just like when they roast him, I think if they did it more often it would fix him. Also Cordy might be the only character that can be funny when she actually means to.
8- Doyle trying to run away, coming back, and trying to Ā bring down the fence with the car but just damaging the car a little subversion of the classic scenes where the fences do go down. It IS funny, adds suspense to the actions going on inside, and it serves to tell a lot about the character, so three for one!
7- Angel jumping into the wrong car instead of his, in the middle of chasing the bad guys I... I have mixed feelings about this because in the heat of the moment it works so well, like using the high of the chasing scene for the funny break, also the subversion or whatever, but then I thought for two minutes and went āHEY arenāt vampires supposed to have supper smell? he should have smelled that wasnāt his car!ā
6- "You kind of remind me of her. You know... cuz of the hair " Angel pretending to be drunk talking about buffy to a bald black man Ā I think the whiplash from the classic detective noir voice-off of the introduction, to this, does a lot of the job, but still, it works. They knew anyone watching would know about buffy being exactly the opposite image already. And you can even see it as a little jab at : this show is going to be completely different from what you expect from before, from buffy. So its a good first joke of the show.
5- "I can do what ever I want" Ā "really? can you fly?" Ā *kicks him out of the top of the building. Bursts into flames in the sun* Ā "guess not" I mean its soo cheesy when you see it written but like, this whole show is cheesy, and to me that's part of the fun, something that makes me laugh. And in character it also makes me laugh because: *fondly rolls eyes* ālook at that!Ā Angel again couldnāt pass the opportunity to be dramatic...ā Ā Ā But in scene it does work a little better because of the dramatic shots, the cool effects, plus the satisfaction of finally seeing the vampire murderer being stopped. Also, then you got the next one:
4- "What happened to Russel?" Ā "he went into the light" YEAH ok, its so simple, but the poker face of Angel in the middle of his brooding session makes it more funny, like in character he didnāt even think about making the joke, he just said a common phrase that means a person died, not even thinking about the double meaning, so Doyle also doesnāt acknowledge it as a joke.
3-Ā "he is going to kill everyone you care about" "there is no one left I care about" Ā *cut to Cordy meditating in her tiny apartment saying Ā : " I am somebody, I matter" I love smart cuts jokes. In the moment it just anticipates Cordelia is going to be the next vampire victim, but then you realize it anticipates how Cordelia is going to become someone important in the story and that matters a lot to Angel too.
2- Cordelia releasing this guy is a vampire >> defending her ability to identify vampires when questioned >> realizing said vampire is going to kill her>> saying she was just kidding The acting from both of them is very good, like the subtle denial of the vampire going āemm what? who? when? what?ā and then changing into the menacing look, and Cordelia pointing the finger and UHG this is kind of unfair bc more than a joke its the entire scene that's really funny. And the comedy here also comes with the subversion of the helpless innocent victim trope, even if its just for that moment, because the protag is still Angel and he had to save her *rolls eyes* the fact that she can go āHey I know what you are! I know about this stuff! I already went through worse!ā its nice.
1- " It's about reachin' out to people. Showin' them that there's love and hope still left in this world." old lady living in the street: "hey, spare some change?"- "Get a job you lazy sow!"Ā shocking but sublime, perfect delivery, probably the funniest thing is how non of them acknowledges this and they continue talking about their own thing. It sets the mood for the story: this people might be trying to do some good but they are still kind of assholes with lot of issues and poor self awareness, so welcome to this shit-show. Enjoy
#completely personal ranking#then I wanted to do one of the worst#bc part of the fun of watching bad shows is roasting them I think#but off this took longuer to write than I though lmao#angel btvs#good night

Ramblings about Lucifer referencing Bones, āClose your eyes.ā and shows influencing each other
That was never just a Bones reference being made and the season finale admitted it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv_1dJk5yEM
David Boreanaz played the ironically-named Angel on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel: the Series. His character has *so many* parallels with Lucifer (far more than Booth outside of the law enforcement/crime procedural connection).
Angel's spinoff also has noir crime drama aspects mixed with the supernatural starring an immortal protagonist with a dark past and infamously villainous reputation fighting evil as a supernatural private detective in the City of Angels (a city known for its dark underbelly juxtaposed with fame and glamor, broken dreams and chasing eternal youth) and navigating human law (including the LAPD and evil lawyers) while not legally existing.
Angel also fell in love with a blonde human heroine (Buffy Summers) after lifetimes of self-destructive, not-so-heroic behaviors (getting his soul back did *not* make Angel a hero and human Liam was a lecherous drunk with unfulfilled ambitions and father issues) who inspired him to become a better man and make human connections.
AtS made heavy use of sprawling nighttime Downtown L.A. cityscape shots, which Lucifer also shared an abundance of.
During both of their first cases, they failed to save the troubled blonde girl they were trying to help (Tina and Delilah, respectively). They also have a connection inside the LAPD through a blonde cop who also takes their identity secrets pretty badly (Kate Lockley in Angel's case).
Note that Buffy not only screamed (twice, given it repeated during her memory loss in Halloween), but also came after Angel with a crossbow when she thought he'd attacked her mother (it was Darla), so Chloe taking the Devil face reveal (Monster Reveals are iconic old horror imagery) poorly to the point of considering poisoning is par for the course. However, it only took Buffy seven episodes instead of three seasons to get the identity reveal via seeing the horrific second face (arguably also an accident on Angel's part).
They are metaphorically or literally Hell's angels. They also had long stays in Hell or a hell dimension.
Lucifer and Angel are also both Prodigal Sons with long-held grudges against their long-absent fathers (patricide in Liam/Angel(us)'s case) and they're later faced with a situation where they have unexpected, thought-impossible offspring who show up as adults (neither got to raise their miracle child) wanting revenge. Yup, major Connor/Rory parallel there.
Angel is also in a constant struggle with the Powers that Be manipulating his fate and free will (like Lucifer, he's a champion of free will no matter the cost) and making him prophecy's bitch.
Bones famously got jokes about how Booth is Angel getting his Shanshu (made human), since the character is given constant Angel-isms like references to a dark past having killed people (Booth is also named after a historical murderer, in addition to having been a sniper), both being Catholics full of Catholic guilt (note that the Buffyverse is most accurately polytheistic, though Angel does face off against a take on the antichrist--Angel has constant biblical imagery/themes and not just because of vampire iconography), kicking down doors (just not off their entire frames--LOL), turning on a dime and threatening people up against walls, constant wink-wink references to the Buffyverse (familiar casting, references to the Hyperion Hotel, etc...), etc...
The Lucifer finale used the words "Close your eyes." right before Lucifer is sent to Hell. This is literally the BtVS season 2 finale where Buffy kisses Angel and sends him to hell for a century with a stab to the gut (see the season 5 finale, not to mention Lucifer giving up his life for Chloe's Ć la I Will Remember You).
Note that D.B. Woodside was on BtVS (playing Robin Wood, whose Slayer mother Nikki Wood was killed by Spike). Aimee Garcia was in both episodes of AtS (Birthday--she's older than she looks!) and Bones. See her also playing a cross-wearing religious girl on Supernatural who was slaughtered in a police precinct by Lilith. Kevin Alejandro was also in an episode of Bones.
Tricia Helfer was in an episode of Supernatural playing a ghost who reenacts the night of her death every year. BtVS also had an episode along those lines, but with Buffy and Angelus possessed (not to mention Phantom Dennis!). Lucifer having Dan as a ghost is yet another thing they all have in common (ditto referencing Ghost, Patrick Swayze and/or Unchained Melody--Vincent Schiavelli a.k.a. Ghost's subway ghost was Jenny's uncle Enyos, whom Angelus killed).
Lucifer name-checked Castiel and Supernatural referenced Lucifer using their Lucifer (crime-fighting angel in L.A. made it a double-reference whammy). Supernatural returned the favor again by having Castiel forced to sing in Enochian. Lucifer's reference to his singing voice was already a zing about Misha Collins having to put on that monotone gravel voice and Enochian being far from melodious.
Russell T Davies was quite heavily inspired by the Buffyverse when he revived Doctor Who and spun off Torchwood, so there are absolute tons of Buffy, Angel and Spike respectively in Rose Tyler, the 9th/10th Doctors, Captain Jack Harkness and Captain John Hart (right down to the actor). School Reunion is the episode where the Buffyverse inspiration is most on the nose, complete with Anthony Stewart Head saying "shooty dog thing" in a school setting and a Mayor/Angel-esque speech about the curse of immortality. The Time War gave the Doctor a huge genocide-level guilt complex. Note that the creator of DC comics' version of Lucifer, Neil Gaiman, has also written for Doctor Who and is also the co-creator of Good Omens (the show is brimming with Doctor Who Easter eggs thanks to David Tennant). A barely-recognizable Tom Ellis played Martha Jones' ex-fiancƩ Tom Milligan during the Year that Never Was, as well.
A lot of shows take inspiration from the Buffyverse and you've probably seen some of them. It isn't just the copycat vampire romance stories either.
Angel's forerunners in turn were a mix of guilt-stricken, rat-eating Louis de Pointe du Lac (his Jekyll/Hyde-esque alter-ego Angelus is closer to the pre-retcon, fully-evil Lestat de Lioncourt, who got woobified into an antihero rocker not unlike Spike--the entire Fanged Four mirror Anne Rice's character lineup), sword-wielding, immortality trope-influencers Connor/Duncan MacLeod of Highlander fighting for the Prize of humanity (akin to Pinocchio becoming a "real boy"--see also Barnabas Collins of Dark Shadows, though he was before vampires became antihero superheroes, not just sympathetic antivillains) and Nick Knight of Forever Knight (vampire detective).
Additionally, Tom Welling was famously the longest-serving Clark Kent of them all (Smallville) on the old WB (there's that DC comics connection, too), so it's not just a Fox shows thing (though Fox, not just Warner Brothers, did indeed own the Buffyverse). One of the least-known things about Clark is that he also has an immortality problem where he wouldn't age parallel to Lois (they wouldn't be able to have kids either) without a workaround. The Kryptonite line directed at Cain/Pierce by Lucifer was quite on the nose! Lucifer and Smallville sort of crossed over even further in Crisis on Infinite Earths, so Tom is canonically the face of both Clark and Cain in parallel universes of the DC multiverse.
Supernatural had quite recently had their own takes on Cain (played by Timothy Omundson, who also played God Johnson) and the Mark of Cain when Lucifer did it. Dan's killer Le Mec was, of course, Rob Benedict, who was God a.k.a. Chuck Shurley, the ultimate villain of Supernatural. Richard Speight, Jr., who was archangel Gabriel/Loki the Trickster, directed a lot of Lucifer's later episodes in addition to being a prolific Supernatural director.
Supernatural and Lucifer use the exact same font for their titles (Supernatural Knight).
The X-Files (which Supernatural referenced constantly) and Supernatural also had stories about nephilim (see the apocryphal Book of Enoch). Lucifer ultimately had two nephilim (forbidden interspecies offspring of angels and humans), even if not saying so as a known concept. Connor can also be compared to the vampire equivalent of being something like a dhampir, though he's not quite that (mostly-but-not-quite-human offspring of two vampires instead of a human/vampire hybrid--see Blade for an actual dhampir). Supernatural has also covered the even rarer cambion species (human/demon hybrid).

I know what you mean! AFAIK people have mixed feelings about it. Personally I think it's a combination of Spike being moved onto the "boy's show" (which is how people involved on Angel often described it) and losing opportunities to be vulnerable + tender, which always gave him more interesting dimensions. You get it a few times, but not as much because it's a different genre of show and he's not a romantic lead.
I also think a big distinction is that, on Buffy, so much of what Spike does is driven by romantic love and the conflict between being a grungy self-preservationist while also being the guy who throws all that out the window when it comes to romance. It's interesting because I think Spike is at his most compelling when he's a loser (I remember JM joke-complaining that the writers put the character through the humiliation wringer in s4-5), but once he becomes "cool" he loses that underdog charm.
Anyways, it's a weird thing where I don't think Spike is necessarily out of character on Angel s5, it's just that he's under different lighting (metaphorically and literally) that highlights different aspects of his character while pushing others back into the shadow. But also I understand that he's coming onto a show that needs to wrap up five seasons of other characters' development, not to mention a new evolution of the premise, so I just sorta... roll with it lol. Which is not really a satisfying answer, but also moving from Buffy to Angel has never been as seamless for me as it seems to be for other people, so idk! I had to really work to meet Angel where it's at, but it's a lot more enjoyable if you're able to leave behind the expectations you'd bring to Buffy.
Since I watched Buffy for the first time a little while ago, I've had an obsession with it + Spike that has shocked me to my core and spun into mulch everything I thought I was --
But I recently started watching Angel season 5 for the first time and I just find Spike entirely awful in it? Is this normal?
Apart from joining tumblr and smashing the reblog button a lot, I'm not in the loop re: the fans, so I'm shocked at how viscerally euughhhh I feel :(
This version of him feels like a scrungey guy down the bar (which yes of course he always was but usually neatly toeing the lines of creepy/sick/really sexy). Am I overreacting?!! Just feel like that intangible secret ingredient is gone and what's left is the very grubby remains
#also +1 to your first paragraph. that's basically exactly where i'm at lol#idk if this really answers what you're asking but i get what you're saying#ats#buffyposting

Hi again, fellow Buffyverse (and Cangel and Fred/Gunn!) fan :) Fun challenge for you: 1. Five reasons why you prefer Cangel to Bangel 2. Five reasons you prefer Spuffy to Bangel 3. Five reasons you prefer Fred/Gunn to Fresley! As always, I can't wait to read your answers!
Alrighty, *cracks knuckles*! Sorry this took days, I'm off and on tumblr sporadically + gathering thoughts
1. Five reasons why you prefer Cangel to Bangel
* They became their best selves together. She had the idea for Angel Investigations and kept him on track (I mean, look at him in S5...lol) while maturing and finding her own self and purpose in the process.
* All the sweet little ways they care for each other. Buying Angel art supplies because she thinks he's depressed. Trying to mix things up by putting cinnamon in this blood. Angel making her eggs. Leaving her favorite magazines on her desk for when she came back to work. And he knew her style enough to buy her tons of new clothes. Compared to giving Buffy a book for her birthday LOL.
* How Cordelia made Angel lighter. She supported him but also didn't let him go full brood mode. Always got a smile or laugh out of him.
* They have a role in each other's current lives, their own normal. With Bangel, their relationship is in this obscure future where Angel is rewarded his humanity and can finally with Buffy. With Cangel, there's an actual friendship and partnership between them. They/their lives don't need to be normal to work.
2. Five reasons you prefer Spuffy to Bangel
* Spike loves all sides of Buffy, light and dark. Fighting evil or drunk haha. There's no pressure or expectation for her to be a certain way. A freedom she doesn't fully have even when it comes to her friends.
* Their dynamic. It was always shifting and each phase was so interesting. They're so insightful of the other to the point of pushing buttons. By the end I think they met in the middle with Buffy making peace with some of her darkness and Spike having to step up into her light a little. Whereas Bangel is kind of eternally stuck where they left off whenever they interacted.
* There were several events leading up that made their journey from enemies to friendship/love make sense. We saw them forced to work together. Spike protecting her family. Working with the scoobies. Growing trust and friendship in S7 etc. With Bangel, after a handful of episodes they were in love. We never really got much out of their relationship besides the crying over why they couldn't/shouldn't be in one. They had to either be together or stay away from each other.
* And now for the very superficial, they're freakin' hot together. I mean, they banged down a house. lol
A 5th reason for both:
* They're a better fit/balance. As a team or a couple. With Bangel, they have all this angst about being a slayer/atoning for past evil and as couple seemed to remind each other of the life they can never have because of it. With Spuffy, Spike's got his own can't be a man, can't be a monster issue, but it furthers his understanding of Buffy. And like Cordelia with Angel, he pulls her out of the wallow of it, offering a different perspective (like in Touched).
Cordelia with her visions, gives Angel a connection to the world and together they fight the smaller battles for the people in it. While Spike's personality fits more with Buffy fighting the big bads and saving the world.
3. Five reasons you prefer Fred/Gunn to Fresley!
Honestly I don't have huge reasons for my preference. I just thought they were so cute and like the contrast of the muscle / the brain. We saw a softer side of Gunn and fiercer side of Fred.
Also I think I accidentally forgot S1 of BtVS on my ranking lol. So it's 5, 3 (tie), 2, 1 ( 1 & 2 kind of tie with 1 slightly in lead as it's my go to for cheer up buffy watches), 7, 4

what do you think would have happened if Drusilla had turned Kendra into a vampire?
hello i love you for this question because i think the concept of a slayer turned vampire is very interesting that the show does practically nothing with.
whats interesting about slaypires is that they have the combined physical attributes of the slayer and vampire, making them extremely strong and durable, much stronger than their counterparts. whats less known is how the change affects the slaypires personality/morals. when buffy was turned, she acted more or less like her normal human self. whether this was just because of billy's astral projection and therefore she wasnt actually turned or if slayers just naturally retain more of their humanity is left open.
NOW. i think it would be interesting to explore that wrt kendra. kendra is a much more "by the book" slayer than buffy. shes studious, she takes her calling seriously, and her view of vampirism is much more black and white, saying angel "looked just like any other animal" when she thought she slayed him. imagine taking someone with such a rigid view of their natural enemy, the kind of identity crisis that would arise from that! youre turned into the kind of creature you were trained to hunt and kill, but you still mostly feel like yourself? what would that do to a persons psyche? one of buffys worst nightmares was being turned, but i think due to her natural adaptability she was able to postpone her identity crisis to focus on sorting out the problem at hand lol. with kendra im not so sure. while she is adaptable, she definitely isnt as forgiving of the exceptions to vampirism (like angel) so i think the turn would effect her more.
then theres the fact that its dru doing the turning as well lol which adds a whole wrench to it. dru is an extremely powerful vamp, and i think that as the sire she would be able to exert some measure of control over those she turns. kinda a mix of her age, her status as sire, and her psychic powers would make her extremely good at manipulating her underlings. however, i think that someone like kendra would absolutely retaliate against her sire. it would be a mixture of both the slayer training of "shes a vampire, so she must die" and also "she killed me and turned me into my sworn enemy, and for that she must die". and due to the enhanced strength of the slaypire i really dont think dru has much of a chance of making it out alive lmao.
but once the very personal anger of revenge has been sated, im not sure what would happen next. if slaypires retain more of their humanity than regular vamps, i feel like kendra would let herself be staked or stake herself, out of the remnants of her slayer duty to rid the world of vampires. i dont think buffy would let her, citing angel as a vamp who can do good, snd would try to convince kendra to continue living. BUT if slaypires become just as soulless and amoral as your average vamp, it would most likely lead to a slayer vs slaypire battle between buffy and kendra, which would be tragic but also SO interesting to see. kinda a la buffy vs faith, these two would have been such a force of natute to battle against if fate hadnt pitted them against each other.
i loveee the concept of a slaypire so much i love the trope of the hero becoming the thing they despise its so tragic but DELICIOUS to watch. theres gotta be other examples in the watchers diaries about slayers who were eventually turned i wanna hear about them and what happened!! cuz its like, if slaypires are so powerful, why dont more vamps try to turn them instead of straight up killing them. if you could have a slaypire under your thumb your vamp gang would be nigh unstoppable. so it makes me think its a bit more complicated than that, and thats why its just relatively easier to kill slayers instead of turning them. thank u for letting me rant about slaypire i love u
