EN | Here's one thing I came across by accident while I was doing my research on Toa Baja. This one was built around 1882 for the men who worked in the construction of the road. They would walk all the road to make sure everything was going smooth. Because of that, they were called camineros (walkers). This is the monument in honor of our Taino heritage. • You won't see any actual Tainos in Puerto Rico because they were practically exterminated by the Spanish colonists who used them as slaves. However, we Puerto Ricans have at least 13% Taino blood in us. • You can also find groups that are carrying on the Taino traditions, mostly in the center of the island where the Tainos fled to avoid slave labor. • I talk a little more about this in my most recent post on the blog. This little dude is too cool for the stroller these days. • He's also in the fabulous "terrible twos" even though he's not yet 2 years old (but soon). Museum of Transportation! • This is a fun place to visit, especially for car lovers. My husband loved it, but he thinks it's too small. • I mean, I think they could do better with the lighting, but it's pretty big. • They have displays about all things transportation but the cars were definitely the highlight. • The only thing weird about it is they have a child care center on the second floor. So here are just a few pictures of the sports museum. • In this museum you'll learn about the first sport played in Puerto Rico, Batú, and see all the important Puerto Rican athletes. • The top attraction is the wax figures display. They look so life-like!!! • But my favorite part was the video at the beginning. The song in the video is very patriotic, and you can't help but dance to it. • We even got to see a ball game! WE MADE IT! . Remember I said we were visiting the first European settlement in Puerto Rico but it was closed on weekends? . Well, we were in luck! My husband got the week off from work and we were able to visit this gem. This is called the Caparra Archeological Site in English, but if you translate the Spanish name directly, it's the Caparra Ruins. . It certainly doesn't look like much, but that's because the Spanish colonists abandoned it in 1521 for what we now know as Old San Juan... and then the Americans built a road on top of it (swipe left to see the road... and us). . Hey everyone! I'm back!! . So I got sick... AGAIN! But you know what? My baby did NOT! I say it was because I'm still breastfeeding him. I'll never stop raving about all the benefits of breastfeeding for mommy and baby! . Anyways... here are a few pictures of our trip to the Museo del Niño (children’s museum) in Carolina. It's got hands-on educational exhibits. . Inside, there's a volcano that "erupts", art from local artists and children, a boat where you can play with water, the whole solar system (not pictured), music, and so much more! . After four days of rain nonstop, the sun is finally out and we're planning to visit Punta Salinas beach this weekend. You can see it in this picture. • You can also see Isla de las Palomas, a small island right next to Punta Salinas.
