Mr. Fix It
For a man who refuses to don a hat unless he’s in uniform, Steven J. McGarrett sure wears a lot of them. A decorated Navy SEAL, leader of the governor’s task force, expert pilot, sport pro, amateur (although he’d argue with you on that) mechanic, occasional ukulele player, son, brother, friend, uncle, husband, dog dad, and now race car-bed-putter-together. The man’s talents clearly know no bounds.
Leaning against the doorway of Charlie’s bedroom in Danny’s house, you can’t help but admire the view before you. Your husband has traded in his usual cargo pants and t-shirt for a pair of form fitting jeans that hug his lower half in all the right places and a plaid button up that shows off his muscular back and arms. A tool belt is slung low across his hips, and a few dirty jokes featuring the hammer and screwdriver tucked into their designated slots pop into your head unbidden. Steve slides the pencil out from behind his ear to make a mark on the wood, then grips the writing implement between his teeth to free up his hands. That draws your attention to the scruff currently dotting his cheeks and the sexy patch of gray along his chin that’s been steadily growing with every birthday that passes. He bends over to fit two pieces of the bed frame together, and your promise to Danny to not fool around in his house is suddenly dangerously close to being broken.
Passing Steve on your way to collect more wallpaper, you gather two handfuls of denim in a firm squeeze and appreciatively murmur, “Nice ass, stud.”
Your husband lets out an amused grunt, straightening up to his full height and tucking the pencil back in its rightful spot before turning to you with one eyebrow raised. “What was that, you cheeky little brat? Huh? You objectifying me again?”
“I said,” you emphasize as you climb the ladder with your next few feet of racing stripe wallpaper, “that’s a nice brass stud!”
“Yeah, okay,” Steve says, eyes twinkling with mirth. “Hey, lemme ask you something.”
“Yeah?”
“You think Danno could fit in this bed, too?”
You turn to your husband, trying and failing to bite back your laughter. “You’re objectively the worst. And I’m telling him you said-”
Steve’s phone ringing interrupts your threat, and he brandishes his cell with a playful grin. “Speak of the Jersey devil.” He answers the phone, the smile melting off his face at whatever he’s hearing on the other end. After a few tense moments, he ends the call and then walks up to you on the ladder with a sigh.
“Duty calls?” you ask knowingly.
“Sorry, baby,” he pouts, leaning up to kiss you three times for I love you.
“Don’t get hurt, Steve!” you call to his retreating form down the hallway, getting a confident, “I won’t!” in response.
“I’m serious,” you yell louder as his footsteps grow quieter. “You’ve reached your allotted hospital visits for the month!”
__________
Later that night, you find yourself in the same position as this morning at the entrance to Charlie’s room, this time admiring the way the space has transformed into a little boy’s dream and enjoying the Indy 500 animatedly playing out before you.
“…and the crowd goes wild,” your husband declares, whisper-yelling cheers as Charlie grins proudly beside him. Steve tucks a victorious Charlie into bed before smoothing the little tyke’s hair down and pressing his lips to his forehead with a quiet, “I love you, buddy.” He joins you in the doorway, and your heart swells at Charlie’s voice sleepily calling out, “Goodnight, Uncle Steve! Goodnight, Auntie!”
“Goodnight, bubba, we love you,” you respond softly, flicking off the light switch and leaving only the glowing CHARLIE’S ROOM on the opposite wall as a nightlight.
“Hey, race you in the morning?” Steve asks, head tilted in question. Charlie nods enthusiastically and his uncle reciprocates his excitement with a resounding, “Boom.”
Steve pulls the door shut behind you, and as you make your way down the hallway, you wrap your arms around his waist and lean into his solid form. “Should we make one?”
Your husband looks down at you, one eyebrow raised, and squeezes your hip. “You want a little race car bed, too?”
“Steve-” you groan, but he carries on with, “I mean, sure, but I’ll smoke your ass every time, babe.”
Laughing, you grip his face in one hand and smush his cheeks together until his nose scrunches up from a smile. “No, you doofus,” you correct him, “I meant should we start trying? Make a mini you?”
Steve’s eyes shine with adoration, and he shifts your hand to his mouth to press kisses against your palm. “You want to have a baby?”
“I think being a daddy would suit you well, Commander,” you purr, trailing your fingers down the sliver of skin peeking between the open buttons of his plaid shirt.
“That turn you on?” your husband teases in turn, taking note of the glint in your eye.
“I mean…” You trail off, looking up at him with a suggestive smirk. Using the collar of his shirt as leverage, you tug him closer and confess, “Uncle Steve with his kiddos is a hottie, don’t get me wrong, but Daddy Steve? One baby tucked up in each of those arms?” Your hands glide along his muscular biceps and you let out a hum of appreciation.
Steve’s eyes go wide, and he stills your wandering hands. “Woah there, two? At the same time?”
“Well, we can’t have one of your biceps getting bigger than the other,” you clarify. “You’d look dumb.”
“Oh, of course, of course,” he acquiesces, nodding. “You really want twins?”
“Steve,” you tut. “Don’t tell me the big bad Navy SEAL is afraid of dealing with two tiny humans.”
“I’m not afraid, I’m just, y’know- one is- is a lot already. Joanie could be a handful, so think about two of ‘em, two at the same time would be-”
“Hey,” you cut off his rambling, pulling him down to your level for a sound kiss. “How ‘bout we go home and get some practice in, and we’ll talk more about this tomorrow?” Steve’s hands glide down your body until they settle on your backside with a firm grip, and you take that as a yes. Pressing your lips to his again, you murmur, “Sound like a plan, McGarrett?”
He fixes you with a devilish grin in response. “Hooyah.”

I've been having really weird dreams again and this time I want to actually document them because they were so striking so here goes.
This one was from the other night, and it was more like little vignettes with a very specific, visceral feel to them. It was like bits and pieces of images from some indie-grunge dystopian YA story. I was part of a clan of young adults hiding out from the apocalypse in a really dingy, barebones apartment room by a set of train tracks. The other characters/members were of varying degrees of development but I remember there was Bubba (who was portrayed by Josh Hutcherson), his girlfriend Faye (who wasn't any specific actress but somewhere along the lines of Imogen Poots or Florence Pugh), and then there were brothers Paul (Jason Dolley) and his older brother (who had no name but he was portrayed by Paul Dano). Apparently Paul and I were in a relationship or something? And there was no real antagonist here but I think Paul Dano's character was a little psycho (this is what I get for watching bits and pieces of The Batman, especially the Riddler's arrest scene).
Last night/this morning's dream was much more...cohesive??? There was something about a kidnapping of a baby. Turns out the baby was kidnapped from adoptive parents by the biological mother, a teenager in a household filled with like fifty billion kids (not literally, but there were a lot of fucking kids there, call CPS level). At one point I was in the apartment, apparently one of the daughters from the family (the mother's sister) was a friend of mine, and her younger brother and my son were playing together? And then there was an ambush on the apartment, the matriarch of the family got shot by an arrow in her kitchen and I saw her bleed out, stumble back against the kitchen counter, and fall to the floor and die. And all I saw of the people who ambushed them were their boots and their pants, but I recognized them immediately. At some point after this, I was ascending a staircase in their apartment and there were all these pairs of sneakers of various sizes on the railing and I thought to myself "My god, they really do have a shit ton of kids." My friend in the dream offered to walk me home, but I only let her go as far as this Disney animals themed restaurant? It was dark like a pub inside and had lots of weird animatronics from Lady and the Tramp and the Aristocats. The streets we walked along to get there were dark and the buildings were tall and brick and kind of old-age urban. And then I was in what was presumably supposed to be my room. Everything was dark and dimly light but it felt kind of warm and homey despite also feeling kind of desolate. I was curled up in bed and my mom was lounging next to me asking me questions about the incident at the friend's house. I told her I recognized what type of men the people who ambushed her were, and I said they were ninja. She looked at me like I had three heads and needed further explanation as to what, exactly, a ninja was, and I was about to tell her Kakashi, but then the door to the room opened and in came none other than Kakashi himself with a large pack of toilet paper propped onto his shoulder. I immediately called his name in this breathy sigh of desperation and held my arms out to him, and he dropped the pack of toilet paper and came and wrapped his arms around me. He had no mask on and was in casual, modern-day clothes (a t-shirt and pants, I think), and I remember thinking his face looked so young.

Adore You
summary → in which Harry goes away for a few weeks and upon his highly anticipated arrival home your daughter doesn’t recognize him.
word count → 1.7k
note → this was meant to be set when Harry’s in Italy, but I screwed up so he went to Miami instead.
add yourself to my taglist
Harry had been away for weeks, leaving you home alone with Goldie and a recently adopted goldfish named Finn. The coast of Miami was beautiful from your little corner of the world back in London but from speaking with Harry so frequently, his experience had been filled with bad luck and pissed teenagers. He had been productive in developing new business relations, but he missed you both immensely.
Goldie wasn't handling the separation well either. She had spoken to Harry on the phone nightly, but even then she was inconsolable between every nap and clung to your torso desperately. Your little daddy's girl was in desperate need of a proper cuddle, yet the man for the job was oceans away.
His flight was set to come in Monday, narrowly avoiding a wicked storm as it passed directly over London. Goldie had been reassured for weeks upon weeks that Daddy was coming home soon, but every night she pitched the same prompt that he was lost at the shops.
Her sweet worry had come from memory of a trip down to the shops a few months back with you and Gemma. She had dropped her favorite stuffed animal out of the trolley and had gone hours without saying anything, only when you got to the car did you notice the missing stuffed elephant.
You promised her night after night that Daddy wasn't lost at the shops, but every morning her little green eyes filled with tears upon his prolonged arrival home. When Monday came it would have the same reaction as Christmas, only making the wait even harder to bare.
The sun was setting overtop of London, signaling another bedtime prep filled with sniffled and mindless babbles. At almost two Goldie wasn't all the interested in talking. She could formulate coherent words and short sentences, but you and Harry knew her expressions well enough to cater without verbal assistance. Some would consider her spoiled, and you couldn't completely disagree.
Bath time had become an acoustic concert, Fine Line playing softly as yours daughters preferred lullaby. Her little green eyes were barely open as she soaked in the overpriced bath bubbles, your hand never straying far from her back in fear of her tipping over from exhaustion. When you had drained the bath water and covered her little body in Harry's sworn by lavender baby magic lotion, she was asleep against your chest in minutes. The night was stripped of routine whining and crying, and that almost made it worse.
She just couldn't understand that daddy was coming back. Three weeks was the longest she had ever gone without him, not that she would remember his absence having been a newborn, but this four week excursion was weighing on her patience.
You went to bed that night with a heavy heart, ready to have your husband home and warming the bed beside you.
-
Monday had finally come.
You had woken up that morning to Goldie. It had been months since your daughter woke up crying, startling you into consciousness. Your first instinct was to grab the baby monitor, but that had been forgotten downstairs after a fight to the wash room last night. Rushing to your toddlers aid, your baby was laying on her stomach, reaching for the two pacifiers she had dropped over the edge of her crib.
"Monkey." You cooed, catching her attention. Your palms were up towards the ceiling, ready to pick her up and hold her close. At this point you were just as desperate for Harry as she was, and cuddling with his mini-me seemed like the best coping mechanism. "I miss Daddy too." You promised her, allowing yourself to tear up briefly.
"Dada?" She pleaded, clammy hands pushed against your cheeks and squishing your lips together into a fish pout. Any other day she would have laughed at your tight featured, but her little eyes were filled with too much sadness to find humor. "'ome?"
"Yeah. Daddy's coming home." You promised, nuzzling your nose against the soft blush covering her cheeks. She didn't seem to believe your promise, not that she had in the four weeks since he left, but she laid her head down on your shoulder and let her lashes flutter anyways.
Your morning carried on as it normally did, however it was hard to push aside your desire for Harry. Breakfast had taken thirty minutes, whereas it typically took close to an hour. Goldie was fussy, you were running low on diapers, and the laundry had still yet to be done. Tasks were piling up as weeks went by without your best mate helping you along.
You had set Goldie up with some cartoons in the play space downstairs, finally getting to the cutlery keeping home in your dishwasher. It couldn't have been six minutes since you stepped away, but already had your curious toddler gotten into something. The sound of plastic hitting the wooden flooring an obvious give away to her clumsy discovery.
"Bubba." You cooed, bending down to your toddlers level when her eyes filled with tears. She had just dropped a cup of water all over herself after whining that she didn't need a lid. You couldn't find the strength to be cross with her trembling face, so you forgot about the puddle on the floor, instead cuddling the confused and frustrated mini-Styles to your chest. "A few more hours, Gold."
After you had fixed her up with Harry's new merchandise and requested princess slippers, she clung to you miserably. Her nose continued to rub against your collarbone while curious fingers shoved into your shirt and held tightly to your bra. She had been doing the same thing for months, finding comfort in being so close to you.
You had sorted through a load of laundry with her in your lap, curiously poking at the warm clothes as they came from the dryer. She had tried to help for a few minutes before tugging at your shirt, little eyes begging to nurse.
You had only just pulled your shirt back down and over your bra when the front door opened. Just over two months ago Harry had gotten the rusted hinges fixed, therefore giving him the capability of sneaking up on the two of you.
A grin broke out across your face, wanting nothing more then to rush into the arms of your husband, but having to be mindful of the fussy baby on your hip. You set Goldie down, thankful that she didn't wiggle her way back into your embrace, and turned her body towards Harry. He was dressed in your favorite grey sweatpants from Nike, and a black shirt, his worn adidas shoes loosely tied around his feet.
"Whose that, baby girl?" You cooed, brushing your fingers through her golden locks of hair. She giggled, ready to run when suddenly her face crumbled and she fell backwards into your embrace. Your brows crinkled, looking up to share a worried frown with Harry.
Goldie had never had that reaction towards her Daddy.
"Monkey," You cooed, "What's a'matter?" You picked her up, holding her tightly against your chest with panicked thoughts.
Walking her closer to Harry despite the increasing volume of her terrified sobs, your husbands heart looked like it had shattered into a million pieces. His hands, usually adorned with a multitude of rings were bare, and clammy as he wiping down the sides of his sweats. You passed the toddler off to him, wincing when she desperately grabbed a handful of your hair.
"No Mama." She cried, reaching out for you. You had seen her get worked up with strangers before, but that was always during tour when somebody would grab her from Harry after sound check. "No."
"Calm down, Petal." Harry tried to soothe the toddler, a hand pushing her face into his neck the way he knows she loves, "Just me, s'just Daddy."
You scanned Harry sadly, watching him try his hardest to calm the waterworks. Your eyes fell from his, down to the sculptured patch of light hair above his lip. Your heart hammered when you realized why your daughter was so distraught, and you giggled. She didn't recognize him, used to his bare face or occasional stubble. Stepping closer to the struggling pair, you gently grabbed one of Goldie's flailing limbs.
"Look. Hey, hey we don't hit, Indie." You reprimanded softly, bringing her little hand up to softly caress Harry's mustache, "It's just Daddy. I know, he's got that silly thing on his face, but it's just Daddy."
Harry knew you weren't fond of his mustache, you had made that very clear the minute you saw the first picture. What he hadn't prepared for though, was the possibility that his little love wouldn't recognize him. She was quite skittish, much like he was as a child, but he figured with your anxiety, he gave his little Goldie quite the fright.
"Be right back, love." Harry handed you the clingy toddler, rushing off towards your en-suite with a simple kiss to the forehead. Your eyes followed as he went, but you stayed with Goldie by the door. You figured familiarity was best right now, having never been in this position.
It was a few minutes later that Harry came back down, freshly shaven and barefoot. Goldie had calmed down since he left, but her usually bright eyes were puffy and red.
"Look at Daddy." You cooed gently, coaxing her into turning her head and looking towards the man that loved her more then anything in the world. You knew that if push came to shove Harry's first priority would be Goldie, and seeing him so distraught earlier only highlighted his complete adoration for her.
The blonde toddler in your arms squealed, whining and reaching out for Harry to hold her. You grinned widely at your husband, happy to see them both so relieved and ecstatic. Once he was close enough for Goldie to reach, she thrust herself into his arms. Her head down his chest and her hands went to wrap around his ringlets, sighing contently into his hold. Her little green eyes red, but filled with such love and admiration.
"Dada." She babbled, leaning closer to place a wet, open mouthed kiss on his collarbone. She had done the same thing nightly, and Harry hated how much he missed his slobbery kisses while in Miami.
"Yeah, Daddy's home, baby love."

Bruce Campbell talks ‘Evil Dead,’ ‘Spider-Man,’ ‘Xena’
mm
The first time Bruce Campbell came across Sam Raimi, they were students at Michigan’s West Maple Junior High School.
“Sam was a year younger than me,” Campbell recalls, “and I remember him dressed as Sherlock Holmes playing with dolls in the middle of the floor. And I remember going way around him. And I found out later that it was Sam Raimi. We didn’t really come into contact until we got until high school.”
What a connection they made. After bonding over D.I.Y. filmmaking, Campbell and Raimi went on to do 1978 shoestring horror-short “Within the Woods” together, which they evolved into 1981 demonic thriller “Evil Dead.”
Campbell would periodically reprise signature “Evil Dead” character Ash Williams in various sequels and offshoots. And appear in Raimi-produced “Xena: Warrior Princess,” portraying slippery “king of thieves” Autolycus on that ’90s-iconic TV fantasy epic.
And then there’s Campbell’s memorable cameos in Raimi’s blockbuster, Tobey Maguire-starring “Spider-Man” film trilogy: the ring announced in the first, 2002 film, “snooty usher” in the 2004 sequel and a maître d’ in 2007′s “Spider-Man 3.”
Of course, Campbell’s made a mark outside that dynamic duo. He drew raves for his portrayal of a nursing-home-bound Elvis Presley in 2002 indie comedy-horror gem, “Bubba Ho-Tep.” Then there’s his role of Sam Axe on USA Network spy drama “Burn Notice.” Not to mention numerous other film, TV, voice acting and even video-game work.
The cult-fave actor will make his first ever trip to Huntsville this week, for Oct. 24 events at Von Braun Center’s Mark C. Smith Concert Hall featuring “Evil Dead” screenings followed by a Campbell-led chat about the film, his life as an actor and beyond. Tickets for these 3 and 7:30 p.m. events start at $32, via ticketmaster.com.
His upcoming projects include a comedy album with actor Ted Raimi, Sam’s brother, called “The Lost Recordings.” Campbell also is readying a book of essays called “The Cool Side of My Pillow,” which finds him riffing on subjects ranging from noise to the environment. He hopes to have both released by the end of this year. More info at bruce-campbell.com. On a recent afternoon, Campbell checked in from his Oregon home for a phone interview. Edited excerpts are below.
Bruce, when you do an “Evil Dead” screening event, do your discussions turn up new things about the film or that you haven’t thought of in a long time?
Every show turns up something new because it puts you on the spot. Someone will say something that will then trigger something that you had forgot. I just sat down the other day before one of these shows with my guy who is my frontman and I was like, “OK, l’m just going to tell the story of making this movie.” It’s not for questions I’m just going to tell you basically what you’re about to see. But yeah, every show triggers some new thing. I’ve seen the movie. I know how it ends. But that is the challenge, finding some new, weird tidbits.
Back in high school how did you and Sam Raimi first bond? Did you share a class or something?
Basically I got into typing class, that’s what started it. I could not believe I was stuck in this stupid class where everyone around me seemed to know how to type. I’m like, “How do you know this?” It was very frustrating. So I went to a counselor for the first time ever – I’d never gone to try to get out of anything.
So I go there and I say, “Hey can I drop this dumb typing class?” She goes, "Yeah, what do you want? I go, “What do you got?” So she comes up with “radio speech.” And I’m like, “Radio speech? Wait they do the morning announcements (at school) and stuff?” and I’m like yeah let me get all over that.
So I got into a class and Sam Raimi was also in the class. And the guy who taught radio speech also directed all the plays. We didn’t know how critical that was. The first year I couldn’t get in anything in my high school. I was auditioning for everything but I didn’t have a class with this guy. By the next year I had a class with him, and then me and Sam were in basically all the plays after that. We found out how the deal worked.
So I met him in radio speech and we’d do the morning announcements together and got to talking about what we do in our neighborhoods. I was making little regular-8 (millimeter film) movies and Sam was making Super-8 movies. So we started to join forces during the course of that high school run, that two or three years in there.
We were very productive. We didn’t really get into trouble because we were too busy like filming parties. We wouldn’t go to the parties we’d film the parties and use them in some way in our little films so it was a great guerrilla filmmaking period.
A celeb or well-known person you were surprised to learn they’re an “Evil Dead” fan?
I heard Charlie Sheen, one of his favorite things was to smoke a doobie and watch “Evil Dead 2,” and Alice Cooper’s favorite horror movie is “Evil Dead.”
If it’s good enough for Alice Cooper it’s good enough for me. You host the quiz show “Last Fan Standing.” What do you make of the mainstreaming of nerd-culture?
Every generation has its deal. In the ’40s most moviegoers were in their 40s and so the actors were in their 40s. Humphrey Bogart and Spencer Tracy and all the guys were in their 40s. You didn’t have to be 21. And then as the audience got younger the actors got younger and the people who run the companies get younger and so they’re really just catering to what’s popular.
Comic books have always been popular but now they’re really popular. Not really sure what that’s all about but yeah social media has certainly helped but I think it’s another form of escapism. Whenever times get weird, people want escapism. During The Depression they did the Busby Berkeley splashy musicals where everyone was happy all the time, when life was really miserable. And some decades where we’re really doing okay, the movies turned introspective and we go after ourselves and figure out why we’re like this and like that. And so I think we’re in a phase where we just want to be taken away to another galaxy and Marvel is very happy to help.
And you’ve been a part of that. In Sam’s “Spider-Man” trilogy, which of your cameos did you have the most fun with?
Well I don’t know it’s hard to lineate because they’re so critical. The first one I named Spider-Man. If I wasn’t in the movie a billion dollar franchise would be called The Human Spider. He wants to get in the theater in the second one, past the snooty usher who won’t let him in because he’s late, because it will spoil the illusion, so I think I’m technically the only character who’s ever defeated Spider-Man. And in part three, a superhero comes to a mortal for help. He wants me to help him propose to his girlfriend so it’s sort of a landmark case where a superhero goes to a mortal for help which is pretty rare. So I can’t delineate because they’re all critical to the “Spider-Man” universe.
Do you have any cool mementos from "Evil Dead or elsewhere from your career? Maybe something like the chainsaw from “Evil Dead 2”?
You know, it’s weird I’m not a hoarder, I’m not a collector. My brother, he has the shotgun from “Evil Dead,” but not because he loves movie trivia, he just likes guns. My brother also has I think the set of keys to the original cabin. That’s a pretty good one. Not sure how he got that one.
I have weirder ones. Like I have a prop from a 1989 movie called “Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat.” I have Van Helsing’s holy bottle where he shakes the holy water at them. And I have what I call my tchotchke shelf, where most people would look at it and they couldn’t identify what importance each item is, but there’s a story for each one.
Some of your favorite actors outside the horror genre?
Oh, I l love a lot of the old time actors. William Holden, he starred in “Bridge on The River Kwai” one of my favorite movies. I like the guys who had to work a lot. In the old days and actor would finish a job on Friday he was under contract, he took two weeks off and started a new movie a couple weeks later. Actors kind of just do one or two movies a year if they’re lucky these days and it doesn’t help them refine their craft.
I feel like the guys who worked a lot got good because they got really used to the process. I’m a fan of the studio system. Not all movies were good and not every actor was happy under the studio system, but I think a busy actor’s a good actor.
For your role in “Bubba Ho-Tep,” what was your process for tapping into Elvis’s vibe?
What guy doesn’t want to be Elvis, you know? So I worked with an Elvis impersonator for about a half an hour and then he gave up on me. He goes, “Look, man, you’re never going to get it.” I’m like, “Wow either I suck or you suck as a teacher but somebody here sucks.”
No, but I watched a bunch of footage and documentaries. There’s a good one, all his Memphis Mafia who worked with him, a filmmaker basically got them all drunk one night and interviewed them all and that’s where the good stories are. You learn a little more of the human side of him. But that’s pretty much it. I’ve never been a stage performer so mercifully there wasn’t that much of it, just in quick flashbacks.
And there’s a part of me, in the back of my mind, I want to know that Elvis' descendants, somebody, a daughter, niece, somebody has watched that movie and approved. We’ll see.
I thought it was a cool creative take on that whole Elvis thing.
I agree. That’s why I did it. It was one of the weirdest scripts I’ve ever read But yet it wraps up though. It has a weird premise but it has a really interesting theme of what do you do with old people. Do we forget these old people? And are they still useful in society, old people? And I thought it had a sweet ending, that these two old guys they kind of rally themselves one more time.
What’s a well-known role you’ve turned down?
Turned down? I don’t have a lot of those. I don’t operate in that rarified air of saying, “Oh I turned ‘Titanic’ down.” I tried to get a part in a studio movie called “The Phantom” and Billy Zane wound up getting the part." And it was down to me and Billy, I was number two for the job, but I didn’t really enjoy the process very much because it seemed more political than actually acting. It was amazing how many people you had to audition for, and you had to go up the ranks and each time it got a little more tense as you move up. So I’m good doing these weirdo little movies.
I read the budget for “Within the Woods,” the predecessor of “Evil Dead,” was a princely 1,600 bucks. What was the most expensive line item, you think?
Food and probably fake blood. Tom Sullivan, who did the special effects, probably needed to mold a few things, so he probably spent a couple hundred bucks on molds. A lot of it was footage because Sam Raimi likes to shoot footage, so we probably bought a lot of rolls of film. And we did go to a cabin to shoot it, so had to get in the car and travel so maybe a little gas money in there too. That’s about it.
What can you tell us about the status of the next installment of the “Evil Dead” franchise?
We’re honing-in, circling the building now trying to lock in a partner. We have a couple of bidders and we’re trying to just find the correct suitor and we have a script written and a director picked. Sam Raimi hand -picked a guy named Lee Cronin, who’s a very good Irish filmmaker. And it’s got a very good modern tale. It’s a modern-day urban “Evil Dead,” it’s called “Evil Dead Rise.” And we’re hoping to do that next year.
You were a producer on 2013 “Evil Dead” remake. What’s the key to making a reboot effective?
Well rebooting can be very confusing and frustrating and not always successful. Reboot, sequel, remake we have all these crazy terms. What we’re doing now is we’re saying," Look, this is another ‘Evil Dead’ movie and that book gets around, a lot of people run into it and it’s another story." The main key with “Evil Dead” is they’re just regular people who are battling what seems to be a very unstoppable evil, and so that’s where the horror comes from. It’s not someone who’s skilled. They’re not fighting a soldier. They’re not fighting a scientist. They’re not fighting anybody more than your average neighbor. This one is going to be a similar thing. We’re going to have a heroine, a woman in charge, and she’s going to try and save her family.
Speaking of a female protagonist, when you’re at a con or meet fans somewhere, who has the most passionate superfans: “Evil Dead” or “Xena”?
“Xena” hits them at an emotional level. Like, they’ll come up to me and Lucy Lawless (the actor who played the show’s title role) and just burst into tears, because her character helped them get through a difficult time. “Xena” is more representative of overcoming your struggles in life. “Evil Dead” fans are pretty fervent but they don’t cry as much.

Masterlist
“Okay, I’m going to pick you up after school, and don’t forget your lunch is-” She completely ignored him and went straight to a table with a few other kids and picked out her own coloring sheet from the pile in the middle. He watched confused, almost offended that she was so comfortable with this while his palms were sweaty, drawing against his thighs to dry them.
“Hello! I am Mrs. DeCarlo,” she reached for your hand, and then his next, introducing yourselves. “I have a flyer for you both. It’s just a little bit about me, what is going to be going on in the classroom this year, and all my contact information if need be.”
You retrieve the paper from her manicured fingers, glancing over it seeing a small syllabus along with an email and phone number. You handed him the paper while you called one of the boys back over to you, Tristan was the wanderer.
After some convincing from the teacher that she was going to be fine, regardless of his excuses, you left and headed for some breakfast with the boys. The small breakfast place was enough to remind you of one back home. The classic breakfast bar seating and the cute red leather booths were feeding into your longing. the aroma of the diner was immediatly making you want a stack of pancakes and sweet tea but you knew it would just make you sick.
Breakfast had not been your friend lately, it was a battle you couldn’t win. If you ate, you would throw it up afterwards, and if you didn’t eat, the nausea would still hit with a headache like you were starving yourself. You ordered a bowl of fruit and picked at some oatmeal, but you knew it was coming. Chris noticed your lack of eating but didn’t say anything, just a sorry look hiding behind his mug of coffee. The steaming was just enough to hide his lingering curious stare and a somewhat paled face while you avoided the food you did want.
“Papa can you always take Indy to school, and can I always go eat breakfast?” Tristan dropped his fork back on his plate so he could talk to him. The moment was just enough to drag his attention to the mans twinned blue eyes looking back at him. You were always so fascinated by the sentences that they compose in their minds. Always able to see their little gears turning but never know what is actually going on up there.
Chris turned his head towards him when he started, watching him speak. “How about everytime I come home, we can get breakfast. Deal?”
“Deal,” he said, turning back to his pancakes. “But, how many times are you coming home for?” Chris was able to decipher what he was trying to say while trying to hide a smirk from his grammar, it was too cute to ignore.
“Bubba do you remember when I go to work, and I get to fight the monsters?” Tristan nodded as he continued. “Well I only have to fight the monsters for two more years, and then they will be all gone!”
“You have to make them all dead?” Tristan furrowed his eyebrows seeming sceptical.
“Yeah, now you eat your breakfast so you can get big and fight them with me.”
Back home from breakfast, Chris immediately took to the couch in front of the tv and just sat there with the boys asking to play the Wii. After it was turned on you joined him, pulling a blanket from the back of the couch.
“Scoot over,” you asked him, after he took it upon himself to stretch across the couch. A smirk occupied his face when he didn’t move, not one inch.
“Ok you asked for it,” you pulled the blanket around your shoulders and dipped a knee between his legs to bow down. He was now your bed and he wasn’t allowed to complain.
He opened his arms for you to slide into. “You’re not very comfy,” you complained, but it was half-assed. He stayed silent thinking in his own thoughts. He didn't say anything when you picked up one of his hands and drew it up to your hair for him, but instead moved on autopilot knowing what it meant. His fingers dragging across your hair was the melting point of your own will. He didn't need to think about your actions, well, that action at least.
Into the afternoon, Chris left to go pick her up while the boys were down for a nap, a nap that was getting increasingly harder to maintain. She came in tossing her bag to the floor and talking a million miles an hour about new names you hadn’t heard before, what she did today, how excited she was to go back tomorrow. While you were ecstatic to hear she had a great first day, all it took was one look before she got the gist and picked her bag off the ground where it didn’t belong.
Later that night you got to trail the grocery store by yourself. It may not sound like much, but the silence and calmness of getting to do it alone and not in a rush was almost meditation worthy. Stalking up on lunch things for India, a few items for some yummies that you had pinned, and of course all the basics.
The sound of your ringtone coming from your purse in the basket drew your eyes away from the selection of nausea meds coating the shelves. When you see Bri’s name on screen you almost wanted to mute it and just continue shopping in peace but you knew her too well. She wont stop till you answer or text.
You answered the call and figured you would give her the benefit of the doubt, “Yes?”
“Damn I hope you don’t always answer the phone like that.” You fought the urge to roll your eyes. She says she doesn’t need anything, but she was bored and wanted to see what you were up to. She, of course, likes to get nosey, as always, “So, have you decided to wife him up yet?”
“Bri! Jesus Christ give it a rest would you?” The girl is relentless, she can’t even talk to you lately without needing yes or no answers.
“Yea yea whatever, It’s not like you can have babies for two more years anyway.” Confusion crossed your mind before, oh yeah, she demands you tell her everything, even some super-secret contract details that you guiltily spilled in a moment of weakness about him preparing to leave. Who were you kidding, you can’t hide anything from her. Even though you don’t live together anymore she will prod until there is nothing left to tell, got to love her. Two years till he was able to take a break.
“Well what about you? Actually, I don’t want to know. Just please don’t make me an auntie before he goes to the Major Leagues.” As much as the idea appealed to you, you both knew what Ty’s goals were. A Brewers uniform and nothing less.
“Well the next draft isn’t until June next year, and even then I would have to wait another year.” You stopped to think about it… that doesn’t make sense. Your math skills were never the best.
“Then just don’t use the same birth control,” you said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “When you go next time just don’t get the bar again.”
“No, you airhead, we just got it again. They last three years.” Excusing the name calling that you were about to return, you corrected her.
“They last four years, Bri.”
“No, (y/n), It’s three,” You stopped your steps in the middle of the shampoo aisle. She continues to tell you off to prove her point. Reminding you how you both got them at the same time from the same doctor when you moved to Gold Coast in the first place. She never slowed, always had to be right.
You were listening to her rant about how you better have been using rubbers while you stood frozen in the isle, a look of shock and realization tainted your features.
Her rambling about getting it out asap was almost tuned out while you thought to yourself. When was your last cycle?
You couldn’t remember.
“Bri, I think I’m going to be sick.” You replied to her, telling her about how you haven’t been able to eat breakfast lately, the morning when he came home a few days ago. Listening and agreeing, you found yourself wandering back towards the pharmaceuticals.
“Will you come over?” You asked, while eyeing the stupid three boxes in the basket, opting towards the self checkout.
“Yea, I’ll be out the door in five. Just… wait for me.”
After you pulled in the garage you eyed the one bag you brought up front with you. You fiddled with the boxes for a second, deciding on opening them and stuffing the tests in your pants. You hopped out of the car and took the boxes straight to the dumpster before starting to grab a few paper bags to take inside. At the time it sounded like the best place to keep them till you were by yourself but the immediate uncomfortable poking began.
Chris met you in the kitchen, grabbing the rest of the bags while you started to put them away quickly. He almost trapped you in the kitchen by pulling a bottle of ketchup from your hands, prompting you with sleeping kids and an empty bed, but you swerved from his hands, yelling back that you would be back down.
You hurriedly climbed the stairs in the most uncomfortable fashion, pulling the tests from your pants and aimlessly looking around for where to hide them safely until Bri gets here. Somewhere out of sight so they can’t taunt you for the next hour.
You heard the door at the bottom stairs open and you almost jumped out of your skin, quickly shutting the tests underneath the sink in the kitchenette. Standing straight at attention when he emerged from the stairs with an expectant look.
“Uh, Bri is coming,” you said awkwardly, scratching your head. “I wanted to take a shower before she got here.”
“Oh..” He thought about it, taken back as to why she was coming when it was the night before he was leaving. The night he wanted to spend with you. “In the sink?”
You blinked, not understanding the question, “What?”
“Are you taking a shower in the sink? Why are you there if you want a shower.” He looked from the bathroom and back to you leaning against the counter, sensing your weird mood. You took notice of his tone, it got short.
You felt bad for blowing him off. You stepped towards him, trying to get yourself to calm down. You didn’t know anything yet so ruining his mood along with yours was not the plan.
“Will you shower with me?” You asked, wrapping your arms around his waist, planting a small kiss on his chin.
“Hmm. If you insist,” you smiled, reviving his own. “But we are going down stairs because mine is better.”
Bri came into the house to see you scurrying across the living area and past the kitchen in only a white towel and dripping hair. You grabbed her hand and skipped up the stairs with her quickly, feeling nervous all over again.
“Why? What? Where are your clothes? I could have waited! Did you tell him?” She asked.
“No, are you crazy. And by the way, I am pretty sure he is pissed off that you are here,” you dismissed the fact but it didn’t mean that it wasn’t true. “He leaves in the morning and when I told him you were on your way he got moody.”
“Oh he’ll get over it… Where are they?” You pointed to the cabinet under the sink and walked into the room to find clothing. You emerged in leggings and a t-shirt, watching her pull them out. Standing next to her as she pulled them out felt surreal all over again. A wave of panic surging through you at full force from the sight of them.
The feeling of dread came over, flooding behind your eyes, “Bri.” Her name fell like a whine from your throat. A headache was drawing up, one that you knew was self inflicting from the sudden onslaught of anxious thoughts.
You palmed your eyes, taking a second to pull yourself together. Her voice shook you from your own mind. “You are not taking these until you are in the right mind.” She said strictly. “You are not doing this while you are upset. So go ahead,” she motioned towards you. “Get it out now.” She wrapped her hand around your arm and pulled you to the couch, grabbing the plastic sticks of death with her.
You sat across her trying to keep the floodgates under control, so you didn’t say anything at first. “(Y/n) I’m serious, or I’m going to call him up here.”
“Bri I can’t,” your voice was unreliable, “I can’t do this right now. This isn’t how it’s supposed to happen.” You shielded your eyes from her, worried she wouldn’t have the mercy you wanted at the moment. She didn’t say anything, but you felt her wrap her arms around you, tugging you to her.
“I’m not- I can’t do it by myself,” you mumbled into her shoulder taking a shuddering breath.
“What do you mean ‘by yourself’?” The softest voice you had ever come from her was more comforting than you thought.
“He. He’s going to be gone for so much time. It’s my fault. I should have known better. I made him sign the contract Bri. I told him to sign it!” You pulled away from her and drew up the tshirt to try and dry your eyes.
You were officially the person who will ruin his routine repeatedly. How could you have not known that they were only effective for three years before their hormone deposits run out? The answer was that you did know, you were told, it was somewhere in the unknown regions of your mind while your decision making decided that it was four and not three.
“No, this isn’t just you, snap out of that. He knew what he was doing when he signed the contract. Just stop.” You stilled, looking away from her. Whatever form of softness that was previously present is gone from the tone she was using. “Don’t drown yourself in pity. If you really are, and these are positive, then you cant be shoving this stuff on your shoulders. So stop that now,” you nodded, still avoiding her direction when you knew she was staring right at you. “Now what else are you gonna cry about?” The deep breath you took flooded your lungs like a small encouraging hug before you continued.
“I’m so far away from my family. My mom is going to be upset with me. My dad, oh my god my dad.” The calmness you managed to muster for a moment was broken with a shuddering breath. He always wanted the best for you. Someone to be married to that could provide for a family, and protect his family. You are not married. That’s the first check on the list for your dad. Chris cant be with you all the time. There is the second. You were pretty sure the third strike would be the fact that he is divorced and already has children. Why didn’t you think to talk about these things with your parents while you were home? Because this was not in a plan for either of you.
“You are living with him, if your dad expected anything less then he is being unreasonable. And your mom, sure she’ll worry about you doing this so far from her but dont think for a second she won’t be here if you ask. And they know you, they raised you. They know you are more than capable of doing this, if this is even happening. Which we don’t know yet, by the way.” Her words resonated enough for you to fit in another good deep breath, she was right, as always.
“Okay?” You nodded, wiping your face again.
After a moment to think, you were ready to take them. As ready as one could be.
A baby.
You having a baby. Why are you crying?
The reasons to get upset are all so external. It was time you think about the baby that could possibly be your own for once. Not someone else’s. It could be your own little person. Your own to raise, to dress, to teach, and to love. Your own little person to raise without the guidance of other adults telling you what to do. The tears were for the thought of filling the little hole in your heart that was reserved for the child you would one day have of your own.
You nodded to yourself. You could this, you can take them. You can bare the thought of carrying a little baby of your own. Maybe it wasn’t so conventional all the way around, but it would work because it would have to work.
“Yeah?” Bri confirmed your mood, ready. She watched you grab them from the couch and walk into the bathroom, shutting the door behind you.
The bathroom door clicked open, grabbing her attention as you walked out. “I put them on the counter upside down, will you set a timer?” You asked quietly, walking out. She nodded while you sat back down next to her.
Her eyes held a glossy look with your own. It was selfish of you to throw this on her, to not think of how she was taking this. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for you and you knew it. Your entire lives were spent together, if you were going through the pain, she was going to go through it as well.
You leaned into her for comfort and her hand went to your hair, where she knew you liked it. “This almost doesn’t feel weird for me, if feels like I should be asking you why you haven’t had a child sooner.” You gave her a weird look. “I mean, I know the reason but like, do you know how long you have had baby fever? Since you were like... ten.” You let out a sad laugh in her arms knowing it was true.
“Wow,” she sighed, stopping her hand. “A baby. You and a baby, wow.”
“I know.” You both laid in silence until the timer on her phone went off. The air was still between you both, no one making a move to get up.
“Will you look at them?” You whispered. She agreed while you pushed off of her.
You watched as she grabbed them from the counter and walked back towards you. All three tests were still upside down in her hands as she set them down on the coffee table. You pulled the fluffy blanket off the back of the couch and pulled it over you for some sort of comfort while she sat back down.
“Which should I flip first?” You shrugged at her. You didn’t care, just hoping she would do it already. Your eyes were glued to her hands as she reached for one on the far right. “Ok, I’m gonna do it. But if its positive you have to stay calm okay? If it’s negative you are going down there right now to tell him what just happened.”
“Okay! Just do it! My heart is about to beat out of my chest.” Her fingers reached it and picked it up so she could see it. She stared at it, knowing you were watching her expression.
“Negative.”
It was weird to feel your heart drop. To feel a twinge of sadness flow over your shoulders, down to your chest where you could almost feel the little reserved empty hole in your heart be as hollow as ever.
“It’s-it’s negative? Are you sure?” You took it out of her hands and looked at it. It was negative. There was barely any reading on it at all. “Thats, great. Really. I don’t-”
Your hands fell to your lap. It wasn’t meant to be filled right now. The day will come when it is in your plan, when it is supposed to happen. Drawing your eyes back up to her who was holding both the other ones in her hands. Her brow was tweaked looking between them, back to the one in your own hands.
“What?” You asked. A reminisce of annoyance was sprinkling. It’s not like it was her fault that it was negative.
She moved her hand from her mouth to speak, “They are positive.” She shoved them both into your hands. You flipped them next to each other setting eyes on the prominent stripes on them both. Both of them were positive. You picked up the third in your lap looking at the almost non existent line of its own.
“Maybe it’s wrong. It’s a false positive,” your words stuttered out.
“No! There is no such thing as a false positive, only false negatives.” She grabbed them back admiring them. She was entranced by the tests not noticing your spike in breathing.
“I’m pregnant?” The rhetorical notation flew over her head throwing yes’s at you, repeating the words of affirmation.
~
Chris was down stairs sitting in his bed, ready to send you a passive aggressive text. He wanted you in there with him. To be laying next to him under the blankets like always. With your head sticking out of the top, your hair thrown over the pillow cases.
It had only been maybe half an hour since you hopped out of the shower and ran out and he already missed your presence next to him. The bedroom felt baren without you in it. He didn’t like it.
All it left him with was the faint smell of your favorite body wash that tainted the bedding where you lay night after night, even when he wasn't there for you to feel next to you.
He erased the words he tried to type out three times. He didn’t want to sound rude, or desperate, or irate. The text box was left empty, shutting his phone off and tossing it onto the bedside table. He had an early morning.
Chris tiptoed up the stairs to your room in the early hours, trying to decipher which lump under the blankets was you and which was Bri. The phone flashlight guided him over a pair of shoes and a pillow thrown on the floor. He sat down on the edge of the bed and pulled the blankets back a bit. The motion of the bed moving and the random light was stirring you awake.
The phone was set on the nightstand, the light illuminating the dark room just enough that you could sneak open your eyes without feeling blinded. You pulled the blanket over your head, though it wouldn’t budge with him holding it down.
“Princess,” his hand pushed your hair out of your sleep ridden eyes that weren’t staying open. You hummed in response. “I have to go.” His voice was a whisper in the quiet room. Just barely heard over the sound of the whirring fan in the corner.
You pulled your arms from under the covers lazily reaching for him. He knew it meant for a hug, bending down to brace himself on the mattress while you squeezed him tight. His face tucked in your neck, giving you a small kiss to the soft skin before pulling away and kissing your lips.
“I love you,” he whispered against your lips, “even when you blow me off.”
“Im sorry, I love you,” he gave you another squeeze, letting you know he’d call when he landed, before standing up and heading out.
“That was so cute it’s disgusting.” Bri’s tired voice grumbled next to you. You ignored her, settling back under the plush feathery blanket, ready for the moment to be a dreamy haze in the morning.
Wait!” She shouted, sitting up in bed. You gasped, knowing what she means by her yelling, throwing the blankets off yourself. You charged out of the room taking the stairs two at a time and throwing open the garage door to see the jeep gone and the door already shut.
“God dammit!” You yelped to yourself.
Why does this kind of shit have to happen to you?
Four weeks till he would be back. Four weeks till your brother got here with Chaz and his girlfriend. Four weeks you were going to keep this to yourself, between you and Bri only. She is now sworn to secrecy.
You trudged up the stairs, shaking your head at her expectant gaze, answering the question she was asking. You didn’t make it in time.
What did you expect? Him to be ecstatic and leave you with a smile on his face right after you tell him the news? Maybe it was for the best to wait.
~
“I feel like I kind of got the gist over the phone. These are the model bands that I picked out for you.” The soft cloth was littered with different sized bands and several metals. The small clutter of various sized diamonds and a few gems lay still, waiting to be inspected. “These three are a set. Each carry a dainty feel, and together have the most elegant look if you ask me.”
“I like that one too.” Chris’s eyes struggled to keep a gaze long enough on one band, this was a commitment job for his mind that couldn’t pick. He set down the thicker band that was held in his fingertips and reached for her outstretched hand that was sporting the trio. The thin bands were encrusted with the tiniest jewels, enough to catch the eye, but not enough to be obnoxious. “Can the setting be altered if I didn't want the diamond that type of cut?”
The jeweler marveled at his choice of vocabulary, impressed that he actually took time to look over the catalog she sent with him last time. “Of course.”
“Ok, I think this one will work.”

anyway i want to actually draw shit up (im still trying to get the hang of drawing chop top lmao) but im gonna write sm shit abt it since ppl r interested lol
ok so this is all a fully self indulgent modern au bc i am Lonely and Yearning (im like almost embarrassed but ik this is a No Judgement Zone) ANYWAY
the tl;dr of it: stretch and chop top work together at the radio station and bubba n stretch get together n are cute n happy
im like trying to organize this in a cohesive way but. maybe thats not happening uhh cancer tw also
ok so chop top (as some what of an explanation for him being Like That that isnt vietnam) had cancer as a kid ((probably ended up at st judes, theres one in texas but memphis isnt that far away)) , a tumor in his prefrontal cortex (which controls speech, motor function, and other stuff) and had to get a chunk of it removed (nubbins gave him the nickname chop top bc they ‘chopped the top of his brain off’) and had to have radiation and chemo as well and his hair never fully grew back. he starts at the station organizing records and things but eventually goes on to do a show with stretch where they just play weird indie shit and talk
im undecided on bubbas backstory but what im leaning towards is that (kind of stolen from tcm the beginning lol) his mom died during childbirth and the last thing she said was ‘my bubba’ so the rest of the family decided to name him bubba and thats his actual legal name (im just obsessed w the idea of his legal name being bubba) ((im basing a lot of his abilities and limitations on my uncle who is nd (he probably has autism but it was the 70s and the drs literally diagnosed him as the r slur) but he lives with his wife and drives and used to work but he hurt his knee and doesnt anymore))
Autistic Icon, he talks and uses asl, he signs when he goes nonverbal, but when he speaks its either a bit slow or very fast to the point that hes not very intelligible (idk if thats the right word but the audio version of illegible lmao) like his babbles and squawks (which he makes when hes v excited or overwhelmed) hes either going to be in college (hes not stupid he just needs to be taught the right way !! i love the idea of him being an artist bc hes very creative from the stuff hes made that we see in the movies and definitely not bc im an art student, or he works as a butcher ( which i feel like is more fitting for his character but the idea of butchers make me sad :-( i was raised by vegans lmao)
stretch is basically the same bc shes already a regular normal person and not a homicidal cannibal lmao
THE MEET CUTE BC IM LONELY: chop top’s car is broken or in the shop or smth so bubba has to pick him up and drop him off at work bc the radio station is too far to walk. ((i imagine bubba driving a pick up truck or some old beat up jeep)) bubba comes early so he goes in the station to hang out until chop top clocks out. when chop mentions that his brother is driving him home and stretch just imagines chop top part three (shes already met nubbins and hes just chop top part two) so shes very surprised that bubba looks nothing like his brothers. bubba, being the hopeless romantic he is, is instantly smitten with stretch the second he sees her, and little does he know that hes exactly stretch’s type. chop top of Course mocks him the second they get in the car (the infamous ‘bubbas got a girlfriend’)
anways theres gonna be more bc i havent figured out everything fully lol
ive concocted a very detailed bubba x stretch normal au that youre all going to have to deal w later

Long Beach Grand Prix now the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach
Grand Prix may have a new official name, but it remains one of the highlights on the calendar for any race fans.
What began as the Long Beach Grand Prix in 1975, continued as the United States Grand Prix West from 1976-1983, to the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach from 1980-2018, will now be known as the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
“That happens to be the exact message we have been using in all of our advertising – ‘New Race Name. Same Fast Game,’” Jim Michaelian, President and CEO of the Gran Prix Association of Long Beach told NBC Sports on Monday. “That captures the essence of what you will experience when you come to the 2019 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.”
The week-long event brings Southern California’s glamour crowd to Long Beach to watch fast cars, soak up the sun, attend concerts and tour the exposition center. Only the Indianapolis 500 and the Grand Prix of Monaco would be seen as more prestigious races.
But it’s more than just racing.
“Both days contain a significant number of what I call ‘non-hardcore racing fans,’” Michaelian said. “They are coming out, enjoying the atmosphere, participating in a lot of the activities here whether it is in the Lifestyle Expo, or the Kids Zone or the go-kart tracks or attending the concerts or Friday and Saturday night or Drifting on those two nights.
“The attraction for our guests all three days is to come out and enjoy themselves and take in some of the racing. Robby Gordon’s SST Trucks are always popular, and Drifting is always packed in the evening.
“And who doesn’t want to see Sports Cars in action like IMSA has, not only in DPI but also in the GTLM. Those are really aspirational type cars with Ford GT, Porsche, Corvette and BMW. Those are cars people would love to own and love to drive and they get to see them in action here.
In addition to a new sponsor, IMSA will help celebrate its 50thYear with an historic GTO race with 32 of the old GTO cars from 1990 and 1991. There will also be a display of GTP cars in the Promenade area of the Long Beach Convention Center. There are six events scheduled including NTT IndyCar, IMSA WeatherTech Series, the Pirelli GT4 America Series, Robby Gordon’s SST Trucks, Formula Drift and the IMSA Historic GTO Race as all part of the schedule.
Michaelian has been part of this event since its inception in 1975 when the event was created by England’s Chris Pook, who was running a travel agency in Long Beach at the time and hoped to turn the city into a destination.
“That first year was a real scramble,” Michaelian recalled. “We didn’t get approval from the State of California Corporation Commissioner to spend the funds we had raised until July. We had that race on September 28, 1975 so we were really hustling to put that event on. You can’t compare what we do now to what we did then.”
It ended up being a great event full of legendary racing names. As time went on and the promoter became more efficient at conducting the race, they were able to branch out with non-racing options to help attract more fans to the circuit.
The old Toyota Celebrity Race was a very popular addition that was held for 40 years with entertainment stars competing in a race around the circuit. When the Long Beach Convention Center was completed, that became a central zone for the non-racing portion of the event.
“As time has gone on, we’ve looked to add things,” Michaelian said. “We have created a Food Truck line on the backside. We have the Patron Club next to the IndyCar Paddock. We have been able to maintain and attract more of the non-track hardcore fans to give them reason to attend.
This year’s concert lineup includes Hispanic group El Tree for the third time. Saturday’s headliner is Cold War Kids with Moontower, an indie-electronic musical group as the opening act.
The real star of the show, however, is the racing on the track.
The race course is tight and difficult and has featured eight different configurations since that first race in 1975. When it comes to the NTT IndyCar Series, Long Beach is the biggest street race on the schedule. Only the legendary Indianapolis 500 is a bigger race on the 17-race schedule.
That is why any driver that wins at Long Beach feels the history and significance that comes with that victory.
“For sure, more so from the legacy of the track and not the size of the race or the people there,” last year’s winner, Alexander Rossi, told NBC Sports.com. “It’s how that city has hosted a race of some sort, whether it be Formula One or IndyCar or both for such a long period of time has made it such a historical and significant race. That’s the cool thing. It’s another race where my name is going to get to be among some pretty amazing racing drivers is pretty special.
Among the unique aspects of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach is the event continues to thrive and has helped transform the city of Long Beach into a destination area. There has been tremendous commercial development near the street course since it first staged the Grand Prix back in 1975.
“It is something that would never happen in 2019 if it didn’t have a special place in the city’s heart and legacy that went along with it.,” Rossi said. “I think we are very fortunate to continue to race there and should appreciate every year and opportunity that we have to go there and compete and have a show for what is an awesome fan base.”
With its luxurious hotels across the street from the race course, and one major hotel actually inside the race course, the drivers and teams enjoy the amenities and convenience at Long Beach.
“It’s awesome,” Rossi said. “If I have an 8:15 a.m. meeting, I set my alarm for 7:55 a.m. It makes our lives pretty easy, it’s great and convenient. The general vibe and atmosphere that goes along with that race is great. Along that same strip are all the restaurants and night life and people there and the music. The weather is always sunny and 75 in Southern California. It’s an amazing weekend and something we look forward to every year.
“The best thing about it is the convenience to be so close to good food and good people being so close to the race track.”
Winning the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach is big to an IndyCar driver, and it’s just as important for the drivers in IMSA.
“Long Beach has always been a unique event for us,” IMSA GTLM Corvette Racing driver Tommy Milner told NBC Sports.com. “I can remember the first time I went there in 2007, the atmosphere there was different than any other event I had ever experienced. You have casual fans that attend the race and people that may not follow Sports Car racing like a diehard racing fans. It’s fun to talk to people from all different walks of life.
“Maybe it’s the first time they see our race and we explain what we do or to see young kids and their eyes light up when they see these cars for the first time run on the city streets.
“It’s unique and something we don’t experience any place out.
“The history of Long Beach, it’s LA. All of it together – the crowd, the atmosphere, the history and the great races we have – makes it a lot of fun. The streets after the race are alive with fans. It’s a fun event to go to and even better to win. It’s definitely a highlight of the season.”

Best Tv Series Of All Time
'South Park' 1997-Present
Matt Stone and Trey Parker touched America somewhere specific and deep, and also you must respect their authori-teh. Year after yr, this cartoon began, Matt Stone informed Rolling Stone, "We would see achievement as lastly getting to the point where we get canceled because no one gets it." So here's to not exactly twenty years of failure – and hopefully 20 more.
youtube
'Monty Python's Flying Circus' 1969 74
And now for some thing completely various. The best comedy cock tail – five British intellectuals along with a token American clod, Terry Gilliam, running amok about the BBC. Monty Python were the Beatles of comedy, each one an indispensable aspect in the chemistry, from John Cleese rage to Eric Idle -stick wordplay. The Pythons were godfathers to all ambitious jokers who adopted – Lorne Michaels and Chevy Chase satisfied in line for an Ultimate Goal screening. But these 45 episodes stay the comedic equivalent of Mount Everest: the mountain with all the biggest tits on earth, forbidding, aloof, terrifying.
youtube
'Game of Thrones' 2011-Present
The night is dark and full of terrors, particularly. With its premise of "The Sopranos in middle earth," it is the HBO fantasy sequence that broke through style boundaries to stake its claim as one of the most compellingly realistic dramas on the air, going beyond George R.R. Martin's publications. It may grab attention with the nudity, the dragons and severed heads, but in your mind it's a thriller. As Martin told Rolling Stone, "History is written in blood, a gold mine – the kings, the princes, the generals along with the whores, and all the betrayals and wars and confidences. It's better than 90 percent of exactly what the fantasists do make up."
youtube
'Cheers' 1982 93
You need a place where everybody knows your title – even supposing it's just a dive-bar in Boston total of regulars with no place else to go. Cheers started with an emphasis on the mis-matched passionate banter between Ted Danson's washed-up Red-Sox pitcher Sam and Shelley Long's up tight bookworm Diane. ("Over my dead body!" "Hey, do not b-ring last night into this.") But it regularly renewed it self by bringing in new blood like Kelsey Grammer, Kirstie Alley and Woody Harrelson. Cheers was like that bar, to the point where you can tune in to see which regulars would hang tonight.
youtube
'The Daily Show' 1996-Present
The fake news show that became more credible in relation to the news. Comedy Central began The Daily Present in 1996, when Jon Stewart took over in 1999, but it hit its stride. The Everyday Present got more abrasive as the the headlines got worse. Stewart had the rage of a man who'd signed on in the end of the Bill Clinton years, only to finish up with an America significantly scarier and uglier for, and also the anger showed. "It really is a comic box lined with sadness," he advised Rolling Stone in 2006. While the franchise struggles on without him, Everyday alumni John Oliver and Samantha Bee keep that hardhitting spirit on their own shows.
youtube
'Twin Peaks' 199091, 2017
"These women are authentically dreamy," Twin Peaks auteur David Lynch told Rolling Stone in 1990. "They are all just chef chicks. And they're just jam-packed with strategies." The little town of Twin Peaks is complete of the women as well as their deadly secrets, from senior high school homecoming queen Laura Palmer that is murdered to alive-and- how seductress Audrey Horne. Several years after Blue Velvet, Lynch's surreal Pacific Northwest secret followed Kyle MacLachlan as FBI agent Dale Cooper, on a search for damn-good espresso along with the the answer.
youtube
'Deadwood' 2004-06
Al Swearengen's moral philosophy: "You can't cut the throat of every cock-sucker whose character it would boost." Spoken like a Founding Father that is true. He is the villain of David Milch's epic Western set in the mud and slime of an 1870s South Dakota gold-mining camp. At the center of it all (i.e., the saloon), Ian McShane's Al glowers, pours drinks, counts money and slices jugulars, in a frontier hellhole total of prospectors, whores, drunks and lost freaks looking for one last deadly fight to get in to (and often finding it at Al's spot). It was like McCabe & Mrs. Miller with mo Re depressing intercourse scenes. The first two seasons are strong gold, the third, flimsier, but Deadwood is about how communities get constructed – and every one of the dirty function that involves.
youtube
'The West Wing' 1999-2006
Aaron Sorkin gave America the the first choice we didn't really deserve in the benevolent President Jed Bartlet of Martin Sheen, a high-toned Catholic professor from New Hampshire. Premiering in late 1999, The West Wing played the same as a Bubba-period fantasy of the way the political potential would appear (like in case the Democrats had a little more bravery, or in the event the Republicans had a theory or two) that soon ended up being utterly out of step with the Bush-Cheney years. But Sorkin's trademark rapid-fire dialogue as well as the Bartlet administration's idealism created this a parallel-universe that was a welcome.
youtube
'Louie' 2010-Present
Louis C.K.'s stubbornly auteurist FX sit-com doesn't look or sense like any such thing else on Television – he writes, directs and stars as himself, a single-dad stand up comic in New York. If Louie wants to display himself in the car air-drumming to "Who Are You?" and mortifying his daughters, he goes for this. If he desires to abandon the half hour comedy format completely for an extended indie-movie vibe with Charles Grodin and Ellen Burstyn, he does that too. Louis C.K. May vanish in to his own head for whole seasons, however totally original emotional peaks are also hit by him just like the one when he inadvertently makes a buddy that is male and travels to Miami. (No, it does not last.)
youtube
Third Watch Season 6
'Star Trek' 196669
The Star-Ship Enterprise took off using a five-year mission: "To discover odd new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations," and it succeeded in making the most beloved of sci-fi franchises, maybe not just inspiring countless spin offs but also codifying fan fiction as an art form. Gene Roddenberry's original collection remains the the inspiration, with William Shatner's awesomely pulpy Capt. Kirk, Leonard Nimoy's logical Mr. Spock, Bones, Sulu, Uhura and Scotty. They speak to strange and inexplicable lifeforms – Romulans, Gorns, Joan Collins. During its three years, Star Trek endured low ratings until NBC pulled the plug, but thanks to the most doggedly faithful of TV cults (remember when "Trekkie" was an insult?), Roddenberry's vision lives long and prospers to the day.

Best Tv Shows All Time
'Lost' 2004-10
A cosmic mystery vacation so complicated no one has ever quite figured it all out – a band of castaways trapped on an island after the crash of Oceanic Flight 815, with a smoke monster and the enigmatic group called the The Others, multiple time-lines, the Seventies back-story of the Dharma Initiative, each episode crammed with clues to be argued over for years to come. Lost proved there was a wide audience around who desired their TV to be more unpredictable and difficult, not less – and Television would never be the same.
youtube
Show Third Watch
'Friday Night Lights' 200611
"Clear eyes, total hearts, can't drop" is the golden rule in a dusty Texas city where everyone lives and dies for the large school football staff. But Friday Night Lights is not actually about football s O much as family, function, course, the bitter taste of dashed dreams, with Kyle Chandler as Mentor Taylor, Connie Britton as wife Tami and Taylor Kitsch as Tim Riggins – the most most notable of the many vulnerable kids who go through the Panthers' locker-room. Riggins' story becomes especially moving after his gridiron glory fades and real existence beats him down.

'The X Files' 1993 2002, 2016
Oh, the Nineties – when our scariest worry regarding the the federal government was its plot to mask alien abductions. Chris Carter created an entire sci-fi mythology with The Xfiles. All the sinister conspiracies in the universe are not as tough as the faithful bond between two FBI brokers: David Duchovny's Mulder (he wanted to think) and Gillian Anderson's Scully (she didn't). X-Files invented a new kind of TV fan for the online-message-board era, alternating between "monster of the week" and the overall arc, but usually throwing in geek particulars for the hardcore devotees. And their archenemy: the Smoking Guy, William B. To rigging the Super Bowl, Davis, the marvelously evil bureaucrat in the shadows of every conspiracy from the JFK assassination.

'Law & Order' 1990 2010
Dick Wolf's long-, long-, long-working procedural produced its own formulation – gruesomely violent crimes ripped from the headlines, clock-punching cops, idealistic lawyers, stern judges who bang the gavel and say "I Will allow it," each character a different cog in the crime-solving device until the trial scene at the conclusion. Every one of its different incarnations, from Briscoe and Logan to Benson and Stabler , just proved exactly what a rich formulation it was, not to mention an opportunity for for many NYC actors to get their first real taste of catering.

UHM UHHHH UHM EFFIE? AS A CHARACTER FOR THAT MEME? YEAH?
Put a character in my ask box for:
My same sex otp: none. there's no evidence to suggest any and I've never given it much thought. Though I definitely see her as someone open to various things. I won't get into hcs about sexuality in the Capitol but I see Effie as occasionally adventurous so let's leave it at that.My opposite sex otp: hayffie obviously the only effie ship that matters other than effie/mahogany/bullwhip ;)My most hated pairing: that's a little harsh, but i'd say probably Katniss/Effie. it's just... weird? idk. and I don't really like Seneffie. It's really popular and I don't overly understand where people find the hints. Personally I'd say they were no more than friends. But I don't /hate/ it. It never bothers me seeing it or reading about it or whatever. It's just not a personal ship of mine. oh also i can't stand effie/peeta as anything romantic or sexual. it's as bad as putting haymitch with katniss. hayffie are mama and papa bear do not put them with the kids jfc.My same sex unusual otp: again, none.My opposite sex unusual otp: none, really. My crossover otp: not a romantic ship but i feel like she'd be really good friends with Varys? I could see a little bromance there. Giggly sleepovers in the Red Keep and sharing gossip. Y'know? My brotp/friendship otp: Effie/Peeta. Mama Effie with her baby bear don't even talk to me iugjhksdnf i can't.Character headcanon: let's not get into that. I could keep you here for a very long time. She's my precious little butterfly and I won't rant at you but I've given her a lot of thought. A lot.

Far away, this ship taking me far a way
And you say Chi city, Chi city, Chi city
It was so easy that night
I see you hidden in the night I found you
Ocean blue, what have I done to you
I’m in the poem-writing mood, I could see if I can throw something togethere for these two bc god knows this is weird af

Being able to not see Ike for so long had made a small gap form in her heart, it was like she needed him to fill her whole, to talk to him, to spend some time with him. Last time she actually ever spoke to him was a little over a month ago, some she definitely felt like walking into his place at that moment was necessary. She definitely wasn't avoiding him that's for sure, but she felt like she needed some space, so reassurance that she was somehow attracted to him for something else rather than sex and pleasure. And the moment she saw his bare back, the small scratches that looked as if made by fingernails, nails that couldn't be his; she backed up, a hurt expression evident on her delicate face. She said it wouldn't be anything more than sex, they both agreed on it, but now she wasn't so sure about her feelings. And when she saw those marks, it was like she regretted ever stepping into his place. Backing up had only made it clear for him that someone was in his property -- she bumped into what seemed like a bookshelf, which had knocked something down.
"It's just me... I-I came b-by t-to talk to y-you about so-something but w-with the looks o-of that t-thing y-you have on your back I-I'm sure y-you're b-busy. S-So I'm j-just g-gonna go."
The redhead pointed to him and her then made some hand signs since her speech was getting in her way. She had hoped he knew what they meant; that she was done, done with the whole friends-with-benefits bullcrap they put themselves in, that she put herself in. And then she turned away, taking few deep breaths, but her feet were planted to the ground and she couldn't move, not even if she wanted to. The female looked around for any near by liquid which in this case can only be water, but she didn't see any. And maybe if it exposed who she truly was, she knew she couldn't stay there because it would end up in her heart being broken, and siren's don't love, don't have feelings, don't feel anything.

Tucking her book under her arm and pushing her chair back underneath the wooden table where it belonged, Isadora made her way out of the library. It was perhaps her favourite place in the school as it acted as a filter for her. None of the pushy, aggressive or 'i'm too good for school' kids spent any time anywhere near the library, in fact she doubted most of them knew there was a library.
Pushing through the door, she gave a small smile to the librarian and joined the crowds flocking towards the school gates. It wasn't that she was shy that she spent all her time in the library, quite the contrary, she just found it easier to avoid unpleasant people. People, perhaps, like someone she was about to bump into.
Of course she'd heard of Klaus, he intrigued her and seemed like the kind of boy who only had bad things spread about him instead of the good. She'd heard little pockets of gossip about him, 'he's mad', 'he's probably been to jail thousands of times' and, of course, 'he was in that bank robbery, you know the one?'. So seeing him standing uncomfortably with a group of other boys seemed like the perfect opportunity, and she took it willingly and made her way over.
"Hey" She spoke half confidently, smiling slightly. "I'm Isadora, I see you around sometimes. I think you're in my film class."

Bloody Lips || Incubus AU
With his vision hazy, Tyler stumbled through the dark streets as he felt his stomach seizing with his need. His once emerald eyes were becoming replaced by a darkness that shrouded his irises, wrapping its demonic cloak around his formerly twinkling depths. He couldn't stop... he needed it. He wanted to stop, he wanted to be normal. Why couldn't he be normal? The skin around his shoulders rippled, his back arching as he felt the blackness inside of him attempt to claw his way out. No, not here. With unsure footing, Tyler eventually collapsed, his fingers grasping the dewy grass tightly between his fingers as he heaved, dark liquid splattering against his hands as he coughed violently. With a harsh groan, he leant his aching body against the small house where his bones decided to give up on him. Breathing deeply, Tyler's eyes flew open. His senses immediately registered the smell--earthy and sweet... distinctly feminine. With renewed vigour, Tyler clawed himself along the brick wall, his beady gaze coming to rest on the sleeping figure. The familiar veil coated his gaze, the evil reminding him of his true nature. As silent as a shadow, Tyler slipped inside the unlocked window, his footsteps making no sound as he padded towards the bed. At least this one was pretty, he thought as he run his fingertips along the slant of her jaw.

Bump: Moros is 8 months pregnant for 48 hours (Amy wanted me to make him feel her pain. And I like the number 8.)
48 Hour M!As
Okay, so maybe pregnancy was annoying. It wasn't like he hadn't sympathized with Amy. He's been around pregnant goddesses before....Maybe even a god or two... But to have those exact same burdens was annoying as he figured it was. So, what did he do? Take the situation as it was. He wasn't inclined to complain about anything but his mother, and occasionally his siblings. The pain was manageable, he was a god. And the being tired was probably a plus, because he barely slept anyways. Amy seemed amused by it as well. To which he just stared blankly at her when she got that look on her face when he did something that wasn't quite himself, but the symptoms of the pregnancy. He would be happy when this ended.
