remember when in dc #571 bruce got dosed with fear gas and jason asked him later how he coped with it and bruce was like “oh easy i just imagined an even more terrifying scenario, my actual worst fear and snapped out of it” so jay’s like “oh what’s your worst fear” and bruce says maybe he will tell him some other time. and the fear was literally jason dying. the accidental foreshadowing gets me crying weeping wailing on the floor every time.

What do you think Jason's opinion of Tim would be like if Tim never dropped the uncle thing?

While I feel Tim being a decidedly separate of the family would help ease tensions with Damian, I think it would be the opposite for Jay. Because no matter what anyone does or says, Jason will always believe that Tim took his place. If anything, Tim trying to act as if he's a nobody, some schmuck who just stepped in to help out B, would make Jay angrier.

Jason is a man of beliefs and values, family is very important which is why Batman's 'betrayal' cut so deep. Jay is offended by Tim's attitude on 2 counts. One, for replacing Jay like in canon but two, by acting so hoity toity that Tim refuses to acknowledge the Bats as family when that was all Jason ever wanted. Tim meanwhile, feels like Jay is just focusing on the Robin thing and, though he doesn't go down without a fight, tries to back off in regards to the Bats not knowing it's upsetting Jay more. At some point, Tim is fed up with being disappointed by his former idol and gives up an pretense of being polite with Jason.

In truth, Tim does want that trust and sense of belonging but he's been burned too many times to accept it. So he pushes it away and tells himself it hurts less. I think Jason would be rougher, more aggressive with Tim bc who does this brat think he is to act like he's above all them? That he wears their colors but isn't one of them?? Like canon Dami and Tim, they'll eventually get to a state of mild tolerance and can work together in the field but they don't necessarily like or trust the other and their misunderstandings in motivation and personality continue to rub each other the wrong way.

Bruce is both relieved and uncomfortable by the situation with Tim. Relieved bc he vainly telling himself if Tim isn't "his kid" he can't get attached but also upset because Mr. Control Freak is realizing how little control he has over Tim's safety and actions which makes him worry like mad. He vacillates btw giving too much or too space.

Dick is hurt by the whole thing and overcompensates. Maybe Timmy just feels awkward? Maybe he doesn't get that Robins are also Waynes as well? Maybe Dick isn't making him feel welcome enough. Tim, however, is put off by Dick's enthusiasm and as much as he adores Dick and looks up to him, he's like a cat squirming out of a touchy owners arms.

He feels most comfortable with Steph and Cass, Steph because she's in the same boat of "Bat but not Family" and she gets it. She asks quietly, in her own way, why he doesn't accept the love being offered but accepts that fears need time and attention to soothe. Cass can read Tim's stubbornness as a result of fear and so finds the sweet mix of letting Tim have his independence but also having him feel safe and secure. He's spent maybe a night slumped against her shoulder, taking comfort from the steadiness of her presence. Bruce is his Boss, Dick his mentor, Jay an antagonist, Dami an annoying coworker, but Cass really does feel like a sister.
