MAKE OVER
Chapter 2: Librarian the seductress
Jung Hoseok x Reader
Reader as Kang Hyeonji
SUMMARY: When Kang Hyeonji transformed herself into a striking redhead, the entire male population of Seoul stood up and took notice. But her make over was for Jung Hoseok’s benefit alone. He began to show interest in the new look but not in the way she wanted. Suddenly he was over-protective, perhaps a little jealous. It seemed that the idea of having a relationship with her couldn’t be further from his mind. The girl however wants more. So it was time for an ultimatum. If Hoseok didn’t want Hyeonji to lose her virginity to another admirer, he had no option but to make love to her himself.
Tumblr media
Hyeonji was standing at the library computer, running the wand over the first of the huge pile of returned books, when something caught her eye. Something bright and red. She glanced up through the glass door to see a shiny red car turning its brand-new nose into the empty parking space right outside the library. It brought no flash of recognition, despite being a memorable model. Not quite a sports car, it was stills stylish and expensive looking. A newcomer to the area, no doubt. Not knowing that this particular library branch was closed to the public on Wednesday morning. Hyeonji was about to return to the job at hand when the driver's door opened and a heart-jolting familiar head of hair came into view, gleaming under the summer sun.
Hoseok.
Her heart leaped. So he had remembered her birthday. He'd even come in person. She could hardly believe it. Her happiness knew no bounds as she watched him close the car and stride up onto the pavement and across to the front doors. He smiled at her through the grass as he tapped on the wooden frame.
"Can't they see were closed?" Choon Hee complained from where she was sitting at her desk, flipping through one of the new publisher catalogs. She could not see who was knocking. If she had, she would not be so anxious to send the unwanted visitor away. Min Choon Hee might be happily married to her husband Min Yoongi with three children, but she still had an eye for a good-looking man.
Hoseok was just that –and more. At twenty five, he was in his physical prime, his elegant body in perfect tune with his handsome face. His height was no joke either, his lean frame made him look even taller, and did his choice of clothing. In winter they range from soft suede numbers to tweedy sports coats. In summer he chose linen or lightweight wool in neutral colors, and teamed them with cool T-shirts. Ties rarely graced his neck. In fact, Hyeonji had never seen Hoseok dressed formally.
Today he was wearing stonewashed blue jeans, a navy shirt and a loose cream jacket with sleeves pushed up to his elbows. His black hair was longer than when she'd seen him last, falling to his ears from its side parting and flopping with its usual rakish charm across his high forehead. He looked slightly wind-blown and utterly gorgeous. Hyeonji immediately put her "moving on" decision on hold for a good seven years. Thirty, she decided a new, was soon enough to give up all hope. The fact that Hoseok was standing where he was at this very moment had to give her some hope. Fancy him abandoning his precious business on a working day to drive this long from Seoul to Gwangju, just to see her on her birthday.
"For pity's sake!" Choon Hee snapped when Hoseok knocked a second time. "Can't they read? The library times are on the darned door!"
"It's someone I know," Hyeonji said. "I'll just go let him in." Choon Hee jumped from her sit "But it's almost..." The sight of Hoseok's handsome-self stopped her in her tracks. "Mmm, yes by all means let him in," she murmured, primping her glossy black straight hair as Hyeonji hurried out from behind the reception desk across the functional grey carpet. Hyeonji wasn't worried that Hoseok would find Choon Hee attractive. As pretty as she was, she was a married woman. Hoseok believed in keeping his sex life simple.
"One girl at a time," he'd once confided in Hyeonji. "And never anyone else's."
It was surprisingly conservative attitude in this day and age, especially coming from a man who looked like Hoseok, who had women throwing themselves at him all the time. He had a similarly strict attitude to marriage. Only one per lifetime, which was why he'd always say he would not bother with marriage till he was in his thirties and financially secure. He didn't want to make a mistake in finding his partner.
"In the meantime," he joked to her one day, "I'm having a lot of fun auditioning possible future candidates for the position of Mrs. Jung Hoseok." It had always terrified Hyeonji that one of those future candidates might capture Hoseok's love as well as his lust. Fortunately, that hadn't happened, and Hyeonji had taken heart from the failure of his various very beautiful girlfriends to last more than a few months. But his latest was a bit of a worry. A statuesque brunette who went by the name Tinashe, she'd already lasted six months –a record for Hoseok. He'd even brought her home with him for Christmas break, during which time Hyeonji had many opportunities to see Tinashe's assets. What she could do for a bikini was incomparable.
But I'm not going to think about Tinashe right now, Hyeonji told herself as she turned the key and swept the open door. Today is my birthday and my very best friend has come to celebrate it with me. "Hoseok!" she exclaimed, smiling up into his dancing brown eyes. "Hi there, Hyeonji. Sorry to interrupt. I know you're working but I simply had to show you my new car. Picked it up this morning at one of those dealerships just the other side of town and couldn't resist taking it for a spin. Before I knew it I was on the express way headed here. I thought what the hell Hoseok? You haven't had a day off in ages. Drive up to Gwangju and visit your Mom."
He smiled a sheepish smile, showing perfect teeth and a charming dimple. "It wasn't till I pulled up into the driveway that I remembered today is her golf day. Took all the wind out of my sails, I can tell you. But no way was I going back to Seoul without showing someone. Naturally, I thought of you. So...what do you think?" and he waved in the direction of the car. "It's one of the new Mazda Eunos 800s. The Miller Cycle version. Great red, isn't it?" he finished.
Every drop of joy drained out of Hyeonji. Hoseok hadn't come for her birthday. He'd come to show her a pathetic car. Worse, she hadn't even been his first choice of viewer. She'd run a very poor second. As usual. Something hard curled around her heart, setting in concrete and trapping her love for him deep inside. Hyeonji determined it would never see the light of day again. She glanced coldly over at the offending vehicle and shrugged dismissively. "If you've seen one red car Hoseok," she said coolly, "You've seen them all."
There was no doubt he was taken aback by the icy indifference of her tone, for his eyebrows shot up and he stared at her with bewilderment in his beautiful brown eyes. Hyeonji was disgusted with herself for instantly feeling guilty. So much for her first foray into hating Hoseok, but she was determined not to weaken this time. Enough was enough.
"You know me Hoseok," she went on brusquely. "I've never been a car person."
"That's because you've never learned to drive, Hyeonji. You'd appreciate cars more if you were ever behind the wheel. Come on. Come for a short spin with me." He actually took her arm and began propelling her across the pavement. "Hobi!" she protested, wrenching her arm away from his hold and planting her sensible shoes firmly on the pavement. "I can't. I'm at work."
"But surely the library's not even open," he argued. "Certainly they won't miss you for a couple of minutes?"
"That's beside the point," she said sternly. "You might be your own boss, Hoseok, and come and go as you please, but most people can't, me included. Besides, it's almost morning tea and I have to be here for that." The rest of the staff had all chipped in to buy her a cake. It was a tradition in the library whenever one of them had a birthday. No way was she going to run out on her real friends to indulge Hobi's ego.
"I don't see why," he said stubbornly.
No you wouldn't...
Hyeonji thought mutinously, and toyed with telling him, just so he could feel terrible for a full ten seconds. The decision was taken out of her hand when Choon Hee popped her head out the door. "Come on birthday girl. Namjoon and the new girlfriend Han Byeol brought your cake along and all twenty-three candles are alight and waiting. So get in here and do the honors. You can bring your hunk of a friend, if you like," she added, looking Hoseok up and down with saucily admiring eyes.
"We've got more than enough cake for an extra mouth" Hyeonji relished Hoseok's groan. To give him some credit he did look suitably apologetic once Choon Hee appeared. "God, Hyeonji, I had no idea it was your birthday. There I was, blabbering away about my new car, and all the time you must be thinking how damned selfish I was being." Frankly, she was enjoying his guilt. It had a deliciously soothing effect on her damaged pride. "That's all right Hobi. I'm used to your not remembering my birthday." He winced anew. "Don't make me feel any more rotten that I already do." Hyeonji almost gave in. it was awfully hard to stay mad at Hoseok. He didn't mean to be selfish. He was, unfortunately, the product of a doting mother and far too many God given talents. Brains and beauty did not make for a modest, self-effacing kind of guy.
Hoseok could be generous and charming when he set his mind to it, but in the main he was a self-absorbed individual who rarely saw beyond end of his own classically shaped nose. God know why I love him so much, Hyeonji though irritably. But then her eyes travelled slowly from his perfect face down over his perfect body, and every female cell she owned clamored to be noticed back.
But the only expression in his eyes when he looked down at her was remorse. When he forcibly linked arms with her, she glared her frustration up to him. "Don't be mad at me, Hyeonji" he said with disarming softness. "I'm not mad at you," she returned stiffly.
"Oh, yes, you are. And you have every right to be. But I'll make it you to you tonight, if you'll let me" says the man who is desperately clinging to your arms. "Tonight?" she echoed far too weakly. "Yes, tonight," he said firmly. "But for now I think your colleagues are waiting for you to blow out those twenty-three candles."
With typical Hoseok confidence he steered her into the library and proceeded to charm everyone in the place. It annoyed Hyeonji that he gave her openly curious workmates the impression that he was a boyfriend of sorts. He even extracted her promise in Choon Hee's goggle-eyed presence to go out with him later that evening. She initially refused dinner, no way was she going to disappoint her mother, but grudgingly agreed to after-dinner coffee somewhere.
Hyeonji told herself afterwards that she would never have agreed to go out with him at all if she'd been alone with him. She would have sent him on his way with a flea in his ear. She didn't need his pity, or guilt. The moment his new red Mazda roared of up the road back in the direction of Seoul, Choon Hee and Han Byeol settled their dryly knowing eyes on her.
"Well you're a dark horse, Hyeonji, aren't you?" Choon Hee said as they walked together back into the library. "I've always thought of you as a quiet little thing and all this time you had something like that on the side." Han Byeol giggled along with Choon Hee. Hyeonji silently cursed Hoseok. All he ever caused her was trouble and heartache. "Hoseok's mother lives next door," she explained with more calm than she was feeling. "I've known Hobi for years. We're just good friends."
"Oh sure. He drove all the way up from Seoul to wish you a happy birthday because you're just good friends. You know what? I'll bet you're one of those girls who go home from the office at night, and perform one of those ten-second transformations." Choon Hee laughed while Han Byeol agreeing to every word she said. "You know the type. Off come the glasses and the straight laced clothes. Down comes the hair. On goes the sexy gear, make-up, and perfume, and –WHAM! Instant meat in heat!"
Hyeonji had to laugh. It would take more than seconds to transform her. "You can laugh," Han Byeol scoffed. "But I'm no one's fool. And you're far prettier than you pretend to be. I always did wonder why you never seemed to be on the lookout for a fella. I was beginning to think all sorts of things till glamour boy arrived on the scene today. He gave me a case of instant heat, I can tell you. And I saw the way you looked at him when you didn't think anyone was noticing. You've got it bad. I know the signs. So why haven't I heard of this paragon perfection before? Why all the mystery and secrecy? Is he married? A womanizer? A bad boy? Look, you can trust me with your deep dark secrets" she whispered. "I won't tell anyone."
Hyeonji laughed a second time. "There's nothing deep or dark to tell. I repeat... we're just good friends. As I said before Hobi used to live next door. We went to school together, though not in the same class. He was two years ahead of me."
"Well, there's nothing remotely boy-next-door about him anymore" came Choon Hee's dry remark. "He has city written all over him. Not to mention success." Hyeonji and Han Byeol nodded to this "I am well aware of that, believe me. I'm not blind, but there's never been any romance between us, and there never will be. He has a steady girlfriend. Goes by the name of Tinashe."
"Tinashe," Choon Hee repeated, her nose wrinkling. "Don't tell me. She's stunning with boobs to die for, hair down to her waist and legs up to her armpits?" Hyeonji startled. "You know her?"
"Nope. Just guessed. Men like your Hoseok always seem to have girls like that on their arm" Choon Hee smirks. "He isn't my Hoseok" Hyeonji said tightly. "But you like him to be, don't you?" Han Byeol added.
Hyeonji opened her mouth to deny it. But her tongue betrayed her when a thickness claimed it. Tears pricked at her back of her eyes.
Her Hoseok...
What a concept. What an improbable, impossible, inconceivable, unachievable concept. To keep clinging to it was not only demeaning to her personally but depressing in the extreme. "There was a time when I did" she said at last, her tone clipped and cold. "But not anymore. I have better things to do with my life than pine for the impossible."
"Impossible? Why do you say impossible?" as Han Byeol curiously asked. "For pity's sake Han Byeol, you've seen him and you too Choon. You guys said so yourself men like Hoseok go for girls like Tinashe, not mousy little things like me."
"You'd be far from mousy if you made the best of yourself. To be frank, Hyeonji, a little make-up wouldn't go astray. And an occasional visit to the hairdresser." Hyeonji stiffened, despite the criticism striking home. "I wouldn't want a man who didn't love me for myself" CHoon Hee said sharply. "That's rubbish and you know it! I'm a married lady and I still have to work hard to keep my man. Now you listen to me, Hyeonji and you too Han Byeol for your sake and Namjoon's." Choon Hee turns to face Hyeonji "Now, when Hoseok comes to take you out tonight. Surprise him."
"Surprise him?" Hyeonji asked dryly feeling nervous about Choon Hee's suggestion. "Yes, leave your hair down. Slap some make-up on." Han Byeol added "Use a sexy perfume. Wear something which shows off that great little figure of yours." Choon Hee nodded in approval.
For a split second, Hyeonji was buoyed up by Choon Hee and Han Byeol's compliments on her figure. But then she thought of Tinashe's tall, voluptuous, sex-bomb body and her momentary high was totally deflated.
"I don't have any sexy perfume," she murmured dispiritedly. She didn't own much make-up either. But she wasn't about to admit that. Choon Hee gave her an exasperated glare. "Then buy some at the mall during your lunch hour!" Their library was in a small regional center which boasted a few shops, a well-stocked chemist shop included. Hyeonji declined telling CHoon Hee and Han Byeol that she only had five dollars in her purse. Sexy perfume was expensive, and she'd rather wear nothing than douse herself in a cheap scent.
Hyeonji actually contemplating asking her friends to lend her some money and reality returned with a rush. She could wear more make-up than a Japanese geisha and drown herself in the most exotic expensive perfume in the world and it would not make Hoseok fall in love with her. "Thank you for your advice ladies," she said with a return to common sense "but I really rather just be myself. Now I'd better get back to these books." Hyeonji resumed checking in the returns, blocking her mind to everything but the thought that at least she would not starve to death tonight after her mother's special birthday meal. Hoseok could buy her something delicious and creamy to go with her after-dinner coffee.
Hyeonji gave no more thought to the girl's advice about make-up and perfume, till she arrived home late that afternoon and opened her carryall to find a paper parcel sitting on top of her house keys. It contained a small but expensive-looking bottle of perfume.
And a note. "Happy birthday darling!" Choon Hee and Han Byeol had written with their usual extravagant hand writing. "This always worked for me. Well, sometimes. Still, what have you got to lose? Go for it! We chipped in so don't worry about it. We love you. Go get your man!"
Hyeonji sprayed a tiny burst of perfume onto her wrist and lifted it to her nose. It was a wonderfully sensual smell, its heavy musk perfume bringing images of satin sheets and naked bodies and untold unknown delights. Hyeonji shook her head. To wear such a scent in Hoseok's presence would be the ultimate torture, and let's face it, Hyeonji told herself, wearing perfume, no matter how sensual, isn't about to turn Hoseok into some kind of sex-crazed lunatic. With a girl like Tinashe in tow, no doubt he has all the sex he can handle. Hyeonji glanced at the perfume's name and laughed.
SEDUCTRESS
Good Lord. It would've been a powerful potion to turn her into that. It was a nice thought of Choon Hee and Han Byeol's, but a total waste of time and money. So was her advice. For Hyeonji she believed she did have something to lose. Her self-respect, and possibly Hoseok's friendship.

Universally Synced - Prologue
Recommended song to listen to while reading: Somewhere In Between - August Wilhemsson
Tumblr media
Y/N’s POV
I sighed loudly, the only sound that came from me as I sat watching the clock tick away its’ time. I wasn’t sure why I kept watching time fly by--it’s been at least three hours since I first laid my eyes on it--because I already knew the end result of today. The room was softly lit by the scented candles on the table I sat at; With the scent of cherry blossoms in the air, it almost made me feel that I wasn’t completely alone at home. Almost but not quite.
My eyes shifted to the chair across from me, empty, and in front of it, a plate of meat and a bowl of naengmyun; I wasn’t the best at cooking but I’ve improved over the years that lead to this day. I softly grazed my finger on the food in front of me, the seeping cold spreading through my index finger- There was no point in waiting as the food was no longer warm enough to enjoy and looked displeasing. It was a shame really.
If he had arrived at the time he promised, it would’ve been an enjoyable night.
• • • • •
“Are you enjoying yourself, darling?” There was a soft laughter that filled the room, matching the warm and loving atmosphere of the room. We smiled at each other, both of our ruby lips mirroring one another. Our hands have been intertwined with each other for the longest time but had yet to feel numb. As we stared at each other, there was a slight blush on my cheeks. Despite being with one of the most handsome men in the world, staring directly at him still made butterflies fluttering inside my stomach. “I am, Y/N. Thank you so much for everything that you do for me. I know that I haven’t been around recently but trust-,” I interrupted him, knowing the exact direction where this speech was headed to. “Jin, I’ve told you several times and I’ll tell you again. It’s not your fault. You’re an idol with a busy schedule but we’re still managing to make things work out.” His smile stayed on his face, only becoming slightly wider to reveal the small food stain he had gotten from his naengmyun. He nodded, closing his eyes. “Besides...Weren’t you the one who gave me this silver ring? Don’t you know what that means?” I softly spoke to him in the most reassuring voice that I could muster. “Yes. It means I’m getting married to the most beautiful girl in my life,” He said, reaching over and placing a fluttering kiss on my nose.”
• • • • •
I tried to smile, trying to reassure myself that everything was okay. I told myself the same thing over and over against for the past couple hours because it was the truth of what was happening right now. “It’s not your fault, Y/N. It’s been like this for a while...It’s okay.”
Quietly as I could, I picked up the plates of set food on the table and walked to the kitchen, first the side where I sat and then the side where Jin was supposed to sit. I wasn’t as big as an eater as he was so it wasn’t a surprise when most of the dishes came from his side; I was a little pickier when it came to food. Using the silverware, still polished, I gently began to scrape off the bits of food that I had left from eating. Sure, I waited but there was only so much waiting I could do before my stomach couldn’t handle the hunger; I ate my own food, no matter how much guilt I could feel in my chest by eating without him. I continued to scrape bit by bit until at a certain angle, the moonlight reflected off the shiny material of the knife right into my eyes. I wasn’t sure if it was the lack of sleep or the lack of fresh air but the light seemed bright than it was meant to be. Bright enough for the plate in my hands to slip through and shatter on the tile floor.
• • • • •
“You know...I’ve always found you beautiful.” “R-Really...?” “Really. The moment that I laid my eyes on you, my heart almost felt like it was about to stop or go out of rhythm. Even if you were afraid of us-of me- at first, look at where we are now. I can’t believe that you get more beautiful every passing second.” “I…”
“Hey, don’t close your eyes. It’ll make me feel that you’ve disappeared from my arms.”
• • • • •
“Ouch…”, I hissed out. It was a bad idea to pick up the pieces barehanded but it was the only choice; We-I-had ran out of rubber gloves to safely pick them up. The blood that lightly oozed out from my finger had begun to run down the porcelain piece that I held; I swallowed slightly as I stared the drop of blood as if it was a drop of water sliding on the window as if it was raining and I was looking outside just to admire the view. From the plate’s reflection, I saw the deep bags under my eyes and the loss of life in my eyes made the soft smile more twisted than happy. Somehow, I wasn’t terrified of the image that stood in front of me; It was me so shouldn’t I feel afraid? Why wasn’t I? It felt so comfortable-
No, more familiar than comfortable. A feeling of deja vu quickly flashed through my head. Have I been in this same situation before? I brushed off the idea quickly. My main priority was to trash the broken pieces and to pack the uneaten food away. Taking extra caution, I picked up the remaining pieces from the floor-piling one on top of the other-and threw them away in the trash can. I felt relief hearing the porcelain ding when it came in contact with the metal bottom.      It was relaxing… All that remained was the food from the dinner table. While I was still here, I reached up to one of the closed cabinets, opened it, and grabbed 2 separate blue food containers of varying sizes: one small and one large. There were hardly used so they appeared a little dusty. Nothing a little water can’t fix.
• • • • •
The sudden sound of water gently falling from the sky interrupted the silent moment between us. At the same time, we both turn around and were greeted with a window streaked with water in a matter of seconds. Without knowing, the two of them smiled. “Jin, it’s raining!”He simply laughed at my excitement and agreed with a hum. A few seconds after, he rose up from his chair, pulling me along with him. I laughed, joyful that he knew what I wanted without even asking. I felt the blush creep up on my cheeks as we reached closer towards the door that led to our garden. “Let’s enjoy the rain, Y/N!” Moments after stepping out in the rain, Jin and I began to slow dance in the middle of the garden as the rain touched our close, joining us in our dance. There were blissful smiles on our faces as we looked into each other eyes… As if nothing else mattered but the two of us.
• • • • •
Once the water washed off the layered dust on the containers, I wiped off any remaining water that glued itself to the container’s plastic with a paper towel. First, the small container was opened so that I could place the small bowl of noodles in it; It was slightly difficult with how thick the noodles were but I managed to tightly compact it so that all of it can fit in; Next came the pieces of meat, which ever so gently were placed inside the large container. Jin had always preferred his meat to be arranged in a certain way.
With the food packed in containers, I closed off both of them before opening the refrigerator to set them on the top shelf. They were placed right next to the unopened, uneaten food container of last night’s dinner. Sighing quietly, I closed the refrigerator. In front of the freezer door was a medium-sized whiteboard stuck on by the magnet on the back. Yesterday’s note was still left untouched and unanswered. The couple, when first buying this accessory, had made an agreement to make a response to answer each other on the whiteboard notes if they ever came home late. It read: “Jin, there’s food for you on the top shelf. Make sure to eat! - Love, Y/N,” with a smiley face and heart right next to my words. I repeated the same words just below yesterday’s message with the attached marker in its’ clasp.   It was time for bed. Before bed, I liked to close the living room curtains before heading to the bedroom not too far from it. It was a good thing that the candles were still lit or otherwise, it would’ve been difficult for me to see. Walking towards the windows, my arms were already up, ready to close the blinds as quickly as I could. A routine. Except for this time, it was different. Outside the window was a perfect view of the neighborhood that was slightly dimmed by the streetlights. All of the other houses’ windows were dark with everyone most likely sleeping in their rooms; The cars were spacious from one another as they made a line down the door; There were some toys abandoned in front of the lawn of different houses, houses that I knew held kids that stayed up late, playing. In front of our house was a hooded figure, dressed in all black, walking slowly through the neighborhood. What I saw that I found completely odd was that he was holding a black umbrella over themselves. But it wasn’t raining…
• • • • •
“I love you…” “I love you too..”
• • • • •
Perplexed, I watched the figure walk through my front pavement but just before he was out of my sight, he stopped. Turned around. And looked straight in my direction. Startled, I quickly closed the curtains, nearly having a heart attack. I just wanted to get this night over with...And the quickest way was to get to sleep right now. Desperate, I ran towards the bedroom only to stop dead in my tracks before I even reached the end of the bed. I almost forgot today. Right on the nightstand was a small bottle of pills and a water bottle that was half empty from this morning. It made me nauseous to even think about taking those but it was for my health, for my better good. Out of nowhere, the pang of loneliness became worse than it was earlier that night. Usually, he was there to help me calm down before I took them before the two of us went to bed together. Usually. The house was empty of any human activity except for me. The moonlight from my window was the only thing that gave off a light in the room. I had no energy to even turn on the lamp. I sighed one last time, grabbing the pills and water. Mustering whatever strength that I had left, my tiny hands opened both bottles. My fingers grabbed. A single pill that was quickly placed in my mouth and quickly swallowed by a rush of water down my throat.
Empty. I decided to leave it open on the nightstand. Time for bed…

Meanwhile…
Right outside their home, their bedroom, was Jin pressed against the wall, not wanting to be seen. There was an unbelievable amount of pain in his heart as he looked at his hands. They were shaking which made the singular object in his hand shake along. A silver ring…
He had to bite his lips to stop himself from crying. It was his fault that things had turned out the way they did; It was his fault that they weren’t happy.
It was his fault, his fault...fault.
He had never thought that things would turn out this way; He had tried everything to prevent what he had feared the most and he had failed the one he truly loved with all his heart. He had seen the other possibilities of their lives; Seeing at how happy the couple grew, how their love continued to blossom--even with the occasional fights--but nothing was as bad as what he faced for real.
Y/N did not deserve this…
He knew what he had to do.
He just never thought that he would resort to it…

Namjoon. 11:00 AM. Monday.
For Jin: Please think twice before you do the irreversible. Don’t you know that there is still hope for the two of you? I don’t want to stop you two from achieving what you both truly want, what you two promised to each other. Isn’t that what you want? I promised you something years ago… Is now the time to take action?
• • • • •
Taehyung. Sunday.
Y/N, did you know? I mean, about Jin. “Huh?”Never mind. It’s nothing. Forget about it. “...”
I can’t tell her. I promised her years ago that I would protect her from anything...Even if it means that I can’t protect myself from whatever is in the way. Namjoon, what was your plan with our hyung? Did you see it too? These visions of horror and unbelievable pain or is it just me? Isn’t it raining somewhere else-a place where we can all be happy? Where Y/N isn’t broken…?

It’s a dream-like almost magical romance focusing on what I love to call “the butterfly inducing effect”. So, get comfy, grab a tub of ice cream, maybe get a few tissues and be prepared to experience romance like no other and fall in love.
I fell in love with you, I don’t know why, I don’t know how, I just did.

The Curious Conversation
Once upon a time,
Err no, scratch that,
How about, "There once was..."
Ughh no!
"Yes, but how do we tell him that?!"
Well, someone or rather two specific people are quite impatient right now so let's just begin!
"I have no idea! How am I supposed to convince him without sounding like an overly cliché and possessive mother?"
"You are asking me that?"
"Arghh! We have to convince him! Somehow!"
There stood Mr and Mrs Kim in Mr Kim's study, arguing, and contemplating about how they would elucidate to Taehyung, their son, about a particularly complicated topic. Unbeknownst to them, was Taehyung, standing behind the large and ajar doors of the study, quietly listening to their quarrel. He definitely didn't intend to eavesdrop, as he only came to give a few files to his father. But surely, listening to your parents bicker about something so secretive is quite curious.
"But we have absolutely no right to force him into this!" Mrs Kim exclaimed.
"Exactly! But we must persuade him as soon as possible, since it is related to the company. Besides, Seokjin's wedding will be held soon." Mr Kim replied.
"Which is why we have got to handle it properly, explain why he must do it, and passively convince him. Afterall it is also his wed-"
"Oh Taehyung! Come on in! Were you waiting for long?" Mr Kim interrupted his wife's incessant prattle as soon as he noticed his son.
"Umm no dad, not long." Taehyung said, slightly embarrassed for getting caught. He quickly walked into the study and noticed that his father was sitting on his chair and his mother was standing midway in the room, indicating that she was most probably pacing around while talking earlier.
"So what brings you here at this hour Taehyung?" Mr Kim asked and tried to make the atmosphere a little less awkward.
Taehyung then, passed two brown files to his father, and stood there with hands in his pyjama pockets.
"The list of the guests and other important details of Seokjin hyung's wedding are in the top file, and you have to sign some papers in the bottom file. I've separated them out for you."
"Ah! Thank you, Taehyung-ah" Mr Kim said and smiled.
"When is Jungkook arriving tomorrow?" Mrs Kim asked.
"Oh, he would be here by tomorrow evening. He'll meet me directly in the office and go to his hotel room later."
"Alright then, it's getting quite late now, let us get some sleep. Good night, Taehyung" Mrs Kim said as she walked towards Taehyung and gave him a quick hug.
"Good night, Taehyung-ah." Mr Kim got up from his chair and headed towards the doors.
"You guys are meeting up after quite a while, have some fun!" Mrs Kim said enthusiastically to Taehyung as she followed her husband out of the study.
"I will. Good night mom and dad." Taehyung mumbled, as he too, got out of the study and thought of his friend whom he'd be meeting after a year.

How does it feel to be so in love?
"To Seokjin and Yeong Mi!"
As Taehyung ended his best man speech by amiably welcoming the woman who stole his brother's heart into the family, the crowd raised their champagne glasses and cheered for the couple.
It was the night of the wedding. The official wedding ceremony ended earlier, and the family and all the guests are now seated for dinner, under the soft glow of the candlelight, around the large round dining tables draped in a light pink textured linen, with rose gold candelabra arms reaching across the diameter of the table.
Seokjin is Taehyung's elder brother. He works as an actor and a film producer. Which is also one of the many reasons why Taehyung will soon be appointed as the CEO of Kim Enterprises. Traditionally, the "heir to the throne" is the first born. However, because Seokjin wished to build a career in something other than business, Taehyung was placed under the limelight. And Taehyung for a fact, loved it. He was a born leader who was quick-witted and loved public admiration. Naturally, Taehyung was also popular and successful in Uni. Therefore, he was the right choice to lead the company.
Seokjin was successful too. He is considered as the biggest and most handsome actors in the industry. Earning him the title "World-Wide Handsome." On sets, he was professional & determined on camera and goofy & funny off camera. He was loved and admired by everyone around him. To Taehyung, he was more than a brother. He was his problem solver, stress buster, therapist, adviser, partner in crime and so much more. And when Taehyung got to know his one hell of a brother was getting married to Yeong Mi, who was one hell of a woman, he was ecstatic.
It was like a fairytale. Seokjin and Yeong Mi were perfect for each other. The way they looked into each other's eyes with so much love, the way they held hands with so much fondness, the way they passionately kissed, and the way they spoke about each other with so much adoration proved that they were madly in love.
'How does it feel to be so in love?'  He thought as he looked at them.
***
The crowd broke into a rapturous applause at the sight of the lovely couple who had just ended their first dance in the most iconic couple pose. Seokjin, with both hands carefully placed around Yeong Mi's back, gently lowered her, and looked at her as if she were the most precious person in the world to him (Which in fact, she was). He whispered an 'I love you'  before kissing her in what could possibly be the most romantic way. The room was filled with cheers and claps, happy tears and sniffles of the mothers and the elderly women, and even a few dreamy awes from the young girls.
Y/N clapped and smiled at the couple, who were now bowing down and thanking everyone. As the host for the night asked the crowd to settle down for the Bride and Father dance, Y/N sipped her champagne glass, which happened to be the only thing that kept her company that evening.
Given that most of the guests were actors, musicians, businesspeople, politicians and celebrities, Y/N clearly wasn't acquainted with anybody. She was just an ordinary secretary. She only attended the wedding because Taehyung’s parents personally invited her. The Kims knew Y/N well and Mrs. Kim liked her dearly. Once, she called Y/N her daughter making Y/N embarrassingly mushy especially since Y/N's mother passed away when she was eleven.
Y/N grew up in Busan and moved to Seoul after graduating. Despite having an opulent life and a multi-million company run by her father in Busan, she decided to move away and create an identity for herself. Y/N's father was absolutely fine with it. He loved her too much to restrict her.
After getting her first job ever in Kim Enterprises, Y/N was beyond overjoyed. The company was very welcoming of her. Specially Taehyung. He was forgiving and inspiring. In the two years she had worked with him, she developed a teeny-tiny crush on him. I mean, who wouldn't? Smart, handsome, charismatic, funny, and not gonna lie, pretty fricking hot. Who wouldn't fall for him?
Nevertheless, Y/N wasn't too vulnerable. She maintained her professionalism and decided to rather focus on her career. Which is why she worked her ass off and got herself an apartment flat in Seoul. The one with her very own patio in a huge lawn, a garage, an outdoor pool, and most importantly, personalized kitchen cabinets. How amazing is that?
And so, there stood Y/N. In an off-white bodycon midi dress with voluminous puffy sleeves made of sheer tulle and small daisies embroidered all over them, as she slightly swayed to the slow music. Her hair was styled up in a loose bun with a few loose curls hanging over the frame of her face. She looked straight ahead at Yeong Mi and her father dancing to the slow song, as they looked at each other with teary eyes and cheerful smiles.
A little farther away, stood Taehyung, watching the sweet moment. He occasionally conversed with a few friends beside him, and Y/N instantly recognized a woman in an off-shoulder cherry-stewed dress with almond shaped eyes, prominent cheekbones, and hair of a gorgeous shade of chocolate brown. It was Yong Su-Min.
Yong Su-Min is an entrepreneur and the youngest most successful industrialist in Seoul. She was also the first Korean female businesswomen on the cover of the Time Magazine. She was firm yet soft spoken and elegant. Yong Su-Min was flawless and Y/N admired her and her work deeply.
Noticing that the Champagne in her glass was almost over, Y/N walked to the bar counter and asked for a refill.
"Ms. Y/N" She looked up to find a pair of familiar eyes.
"Mr. Jeon." She smiled.
"Lovely evening, don't you think?" He said as he rested his arms on the counter and asked for a drink.
"Oh yes! It is."  Y/N exclaimed before looking back at her Champagne glass.
"I suppose you're getting bored?"
"Well... It's because I don't know many people" She said as she shrugged.
"You know me."
"Maybe I don't?"
"Then maybe you should."
Y/N raised her eyebrows and started to chuckle. What in the world is going on? Nevertheless, she decided to play along.
"Maybe I should." She nodded and turned around to face the dance floor.
"You look great today Y/N." Jungkook said as he turned around as well and leaned back on the bar counter.
"Why thank you. You don't look too bad yourself." She complimented and watched as the guests joined the bride and her dad on the dance floor.
Jungkook smiled and briefly looked at Y/N. His eyes fell to Y/N's feet which were tapping away to the slow jazz music. His eyes travelled up to her swaying shoulders. They travelled further up to her rosy, pink lips which were now glossy because of the Champagne and were glistening under the soft golden lighting.
He found it hard not to stare. Jungkook looked straight ahead at the dance floor and back at Y/N before extending his hand out.
"Wanna dance?"
Y/N was slightly taken aback at the sudden offer, but after thoughtful consideration she placed her hand in his.
"Sure, why not?"
Jungkook led her to the dance floor and the two of them began dancing. His hands went up to her waist and hers to his shoulder. Their feet moved in perfect sync as they gazed at each other.
"You are quite the dancer Y/N."
"Well Mr. Jeon-"
"Darling, I think we're way past this."
He leaned in towards Y/N's ear and said,
"Call me Jungkook."
"Sure." Y/N choked out a reply.
Jungkook decided he was going to be more confident this time around. He is genuine so there is no need to be worried about being misunderstood as the "Asshole who wants to sleep with you". He was gonna be his usual fruity flirty self, who was everyone's heartthrob. Besides, how often do you get to slow dance with your crush?
And as though on cue, 'Sway' by Michael Bubble started playing. The lights went dim and the atmosphere got tense. He turned her elegantly, her body in tune with the slow music. He twirled her around and pulled her back a little closer than before. Their faces were inches apart and eyes locked.
"Do you like bike rides?"
"I might. I haven't been on one before. But why do you ask?"
"I told you, you should get to know me"
"Right." Y/N smiled.

Yong Su-Min POV
"If you do that, you'll be bankrupt" I stated firmly.
"She's right you know." A friend of mine reassured.
"Who'll be bankrupt?" Taehyung joined the conversation.
"Min Hyuk."
"Ahh guys! It was a joke. Of course I wouldn't let my company go bankrupt."
"It was a terrible joke." I commented and fake smiled.
"Yah Su-Min! It's a wedding, be pleasant."
"I'm pleasant, I always am."
"She really is, you guys" Taehyung sarcastically said and nodded before taking a sip of what looked like white wine.
"Thanks for the clarification."
I am currently at Seokjin and Yeong-Mi's wedding, and everybody is dancing around, under the dim glow of the large chandelier.
"What are ya'll doing here? Talking business? Taehyung, it is your brother's wedding! Dance a little, have fun young man." Mrs. Kim exclaimed as she suddenly came out of nowhere and joined our little friend group.
"I'm having fun mom! Look I'm with my friends."
She looked at all of us, as everyone waved or said something nice.
"Mrs Kim, you look good tonight." Min Hyuk complimented.
"What do you mean? Don't I always look good?"
"I think what he meant is, you look exceptionally lovely today ma'am." I added.
"Oh! That I am" Mrs. Kim said smugly as everyone agreed and laughed including herself.
I knew the Kims well. Mrs. Kim is like a mother to me. We've always spent time together and laughed like this. Taehyung and I met in high school. We were quite close. Later, I moved to Australia for higher studies. However when I came back to Seoul last year, it was like nothing had changed. Our friendship remained the same. I have to admit, I do have feelings for him. I mean, come on! He's Taehyung. And I also know he may not feel the same. But it is absolutely fine with me. It's not like I live for him. I have a life too. For my entire life I've worked to build myself. I've worked to grow in all aspects of life. To become someone who is fulfilling all her duties while enjoying life. As a woman, a daughter, an entrepreneur, a leader, and as a person who loves to cook, sing, and dance. I love my life.
So yes, I'm not desperate for his love. If you thought I'd be that annoying, hot-tempered, good for nothing, cliché second female lead, then I'm sorry to disappoint, I'm not. But of course, it would be nice to date Taehyung.
"Mind if I steal my wife for a dance?" Mr. Kim asked the group as he lead his wife to the dance floor.
"Not at all sir!" One of our friend shouted back as everyone chuckled.
"Care to dance?" I asked Taehyung.
He looked at me for a brief second before nodding.
"Sure, why not?"
***
Author's POV
And so the night ended with the two couples dancing away. Occasionally, Taehyung glanced at Y/N laughing and dancing with Jungkook. It made him feel all tingly and weird, but he decided to brush it off and concentrate on the wonderful night.

Obligations and Lies
"You are getting married Taehyung-ah."
"Is there absolutely no other way eomma?"
"No Taehyung. Absolutely no other way."
Taehyung looked down and sighed for the umpteenth time that evening. He was surely not expecting this miserable conversation when his parents asked him to visit and have dinner with them. He leaned back against the dining table as he folded his arms and with some hope, looked at his father who sat on the chair at the farthest end.
Mr Kim had not spoken a word since the conversation shifted to this topic. Hearing nothing but silence from his father's end, he disappointedly looked straight ahead and stared outside the large windows. When in came a fragile fluttering turquoise butterfly and settled on the peachy pink petals of a Lantana Camara. Usually he'd smile and enjoy the pleasant sight. But nothing about today was pleasant. How dare that tiny little insect wander around so freely, bask on the petals of the flower, and get a suntan, while he was stuck in this impossibly difficult situation?
"Eomma, Seokjin hyung got married a week ago!"
"Which is exactly why this would be perfect timing!"
"It is impossible that there is no other way. Why and how would getting married affect my future in the company?! It's ridiculous I'm being forced into this." Taehyung exclaimed as he looked at his mother.
"We do realize that Taehyung, but you have to do it, it's-"
"But it's not fair eomma! How can I randomly-"
"That's enough Taehyung." Mr Kim finally spoke. He stood up from his chair, looked at Taehyung seriously and began speaking firmly as the entire house fell silent.
"Getting married and having a family is not just about you and your wife. It's beyond that. It's also about uniting two families and especially in your case, it's about uniting two companies as well. When you get married and start a family, you are shouldered with certain responsibilities. You are considered to be a loyal and trustworthy person which gives the thousands of employees working here, a sense of assurance and faith. It is a tradition in the Kim family Taehyung, and it's proven to be practical. So you must not question it. Since your wife would become a shareholder at Kim Enterprises, you are to get married to someone in the same line of business as ours. So it is absolutely necessary for you to know who you want to marry. You will only run this place when you get married Taehyung-ah."
Mr Kim finally finished his monologue and sighed. He genuinely didn't want to force it upon his son, even if he denies admitting it. Mr Kim and Taehyung are quite close. Taehyung was thankful to have a loving dad beside him. He was always guided when required, scolded when necessary, and appreciated when he excelled. Mr Kim understood Taehyung well. Which is why this conversation was so difficult for the both of them. Though, nothing could be done to change it. Tradition is often unflinchingly rigid, and not much can be done in its regard.
"How do I find the 'right person' then appa? Who is both most suitable as wife to 'Kim Taehyung' and highly qualified to become a shareholder in the company?"
"Well, about that, we knew you'd ask so we've been thinking about someone who is ideal for you." Mrs Kim replied rather nervously.
"Who?"
"Yong Su-Min"
"WHAT? Su-min? No way mom! I can't! I've never seen Su-min that way! She- she's like a sister to me! I'm sorry but no, I am not getting married to Su-min."
Taehyung intensely protested. He finally gave up on trying to keep his cool and raised his voice (only a tiny bit) to show how terrible of a choice Su-min would be as his wife. No no, he doesn't hate her so much, it's just that he never imagined Yong Su-min, his childhood friend/cool sis, to be his potential wife. Oh! just the thought made him feel terrible.
"Oh come on now Taehyung! This can't go on forever, you have to find someone! And you're not even dating anyone currently." Mrs Kim replied equally annoyed.
"I-"
And that's when a something struck Taehyung like a bullet rain.
"Who told you I'm not dating anyone?! I've been in a relationship for the pa-past 2 years"
"Oh good God! Who is it Taehyung-ah?!"
"It's uhh..."
"Well it's Y/N."
