First fic: Our Little Gathering, for Chocolate Box in 2016 - Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, specifically the book version. 2016 feels WAY too late because I had an AO3 account long before that, but I guess I was only reading?? The fic is about Arabella's abduction to Lost Hope and her friendship with Emma Pole.

(Not on AO3, but my first fic EVER is Some things never change..., a three chapter continuation of the Enchanted Forest Chronicles from 2000. Oh lord.)

Last fic: It Never Was Anywhere You, the first chapter! Do you like unhinged? Do you like genderbends? Do you like Stizzy? Do you like unhinged genderbent Stizzy??? It's entirely written and will all be posted before Oct. 5.

Only once: I actually have a lot of these from doing multifandom/small-fandom fests. The one I will highlight is A Sensible Couple, the only Sanditon fic I will ever write. It's a Stringer/Charlotte marriage of convenience fic, kind of a fix-it from my perspective.

Favorite fic from the fandom I've written in most: In OFMD, of course. I think it's A Perfect Pair - not my first genderbend but the one where I just let loose. Buckets of angst for both Ed and Stede, an unplanned sex scene that basically wrote itself, and I had to work at the writing in a really satisfying way (to keep them from reconciling too quickly, lol).

Fic I wish more people read: I have an ego and I wish more people read all my works, lmao, but the reception for Fiercely, my brief Marial/Catherine fic (The Great), got me all grouchy. I have every intention of writing more of this ship despite the fact that the fandom isn't into it.

Fic I agonized over: Torn between Powerless and Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, because I agonized over both of these. BTDATDBS was emotionally wrenching to write, as I put Stede through the absolute wringer in it with no reprieve until the end, and I also just couldn't figure out how to accomplish the final chapter, so it put me through the wringer as well. Powerless was ... actually not that hard to write, but BOY did I work myself up over the idea that I was going to be crucified for posting it.

Fic that sprang fully formed: there'll be peace of mind, a hurt/comfort fic where the reunion occurs between a slightly injured Ed and both physically and psychologically injured Stede. It was really magical because @appleteeth's prompts lined up exactly with what I'd been hoping to write.

Work(s) I'm proud of: I was tempted to say Prisons, but I think it's gotta be He That Plays the King, my novella from 2022's Hurt/Comfort Exchange. I'm still slightly amazed that I wrote it, tbh! It's "original slash", very iddy, 30k, about kingship and masculinity and Anglo-Saxon England.

Hi Nonny! Yes, I’m still doing prompts for Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea - prompts are open for any of my fics! The muses have been fixated on FFXV for the past year-ish which is why there’s hardly been any updates for my other stuff.

If the tailor didn’t get on with it, Noir was leaving out the nearest opening and damn Sengoku’s orders otherwise.

It was that or kill the man, and her patience was fast wearing thin.

“No.”

The man gestured indignantly, fabric sample still clutched tightly in waving hands. “Fleet Admiral Sengoku ordered a complete outfit to be made, Vice Admiral. Including a proper dress shirt.” He glanced over at Noir’s usual clothes, folded out of the way on a nearby chair, and sniffed like an offended cat.

Of course Sengoku did. He wanted them to look ���properly professional.’ Nevermind they were going to be in a Sea-forsaken warzone and that ‘professional’ look would last maybe thirty seconds once the fighting started.

Battles were messy. It was why Noir didn’t care what she wore beyond it being comfortable and easy to replace. Getting sea salt out of fabric was hard enough, and blood was far worse. 

Noir didn’t want to know how much her fellow admiralty spent on laundering bills. Garp and Sengoku wore white.

She shot a fierce glare at the fabric. “I refuse to wear red.” Red was Akainu’s color, not hers.

(Red was Shanks’ color. And... once upon a time, it was Rouge’s too. Noir won’t wear it while executing Rouge’s son.)

Blue. “No.” Aokiji’s color-

(Buggy’s color.)

Yellow. “No.” Kizaru’s color-

(Her color, before the Marines. Before- before everything.)

Orange. “Hell no.” Flickering fires and that battered hat-

(Ace’s color.)

“White is fine.” She said, before the man reached for yet another square of fabric Noir didn’t care to wear while murdering hundreds of men.

He hisses at her. “White is not an acceptable color!”

“It’s fine.” Noir insists, indicating the shirt he’d given her to try on to test the fit. Noir had grudgingly admitted it was comfortable after putting it through a full range of movement. “You’ve already got one made.”

“It’s unimaginative! Uninspired! An insult to the shining stars of the Marines-”

“It’s. Fine.” Noir crossed her arms, so very done with all of this. Done with the blasted suit, done with the stubbornly fussy tailor, done with all the fucking mirrors-

Noir kept her gaze fixated on the tailor, ignoring the movement in half a dozen reflections with the ironclad discipline of twenty years of practice. She refused to look, not when she already knew what she’d see and Noir didn’t need that kind of pain heaped on top of everything else.

(It was remarkable, how similar they looked, for all that they were only half-sisters. The Portgas stubbornness given physical form, villagers used to joke. Fifteen generations and no outside bloodline had altered the Portgas looks beyond coloring.)

(She used to take pride in her appearance. Used to delight in how she could have been Rouge’s identical twin, just twenty years younger and without the hint of red from Rouge’s mother.)

(Now, Rouge was all Noir could see when she looked in the mirror. And Noir had to remind herself it wasn’t her.)

(Some days she pretended it was.)

“Anything else?” Noir asked, and if the words were laced with just a hint of Haki, well, it got the man moving.
