I double majored with a biochemistry BS and a Chemistry BA and then got my masters in chemistry. I think it depends on what you want to do! If you think you’re gonna go on to do your PhD or research in general, either can be good for that. I think biochemistry definitely gave me more skills that are helpful in job hunting, at least where I live. Chemistry can get very niche the higher you go, which is good for research but sometimes hard to transfer to a wide range of jobs. Biochemistry can also definitely get very niche but at least in my experience more jobs are looking for the stuff I did there than the stuff I studied in my chemistry grad program, but that could just be my specific program

so i have a Bachelor of Arts and my major was political science and i have a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and my major was news and information. it’s a bachelor of science (bs) but because the school i went to had a certain accreditation, the full name of the degree is Bachelor of Science in Journalism (bsj). i was in two different colleges under the same university.

they’re separate degrees, which means i did a dual degree as opposed to a double major, but every school does them differently in america

tonight I got confirmation that my BA in History is DONE. I thought it should have been, but my audit looked weird. My advisor confirmed that it is all technical issues related to a school merger and he will be able to get everything moved around to where it is supposed to be, hopefully in time for summer graduation. 

I took a double major since I started with Liberal Arts and a History minor (when the major wasn't available online pre-pandemic) and he currently can't access the Liberal Arts BS audit, but I'm fairly certain that is probably also just technical issues and once a human looks over it I should be done with that, as well. But the history degree is the one I really care about and am proud of, and it is FINISHED with a 3.80 GPA! 

I'm still a little paralyzed re: next steps, but I'm really proud of myself and knowing that is done and someone is getting it sorted for me is such a huge weight off of my chest I've been stressing about for months.

So I did a double bachelors in undergrad, one B.S. and one BA, and I had gotten a D 3 times in one of my classes for my BS, and I passed all the other ones fine, and it was the last class I needed to complete the degree requirements AND I took it literally this spring when I was gonna graduate too ( it was exercise physiology class) and so I assumed because we had a limit of taking a class 3 times that since my 3rd repeat was a D I wasn't gonna get my BS degree and only my BA. I even emailed the professor hoping that maybe he would round to C- even though it was a D and he said no which I knew he would. So I accepted the L. But tell me why on Friday I get a notification that TWO DEGREES are being mailed to my house. And today it was both my BS and BA. I'm guessing the department that reviews degree conferral confirmed my BS degree! I'm so happy!!! It took me a total of 6 years to graduate because of mental health issues and because i added my B.A. during my 3rd year of college while doing my BS (because im insane). I didn't tell anyone that I had thought I failed my BS degree not even my closest friends only my parents and brother because I was so disappointed and embarrassed in myself. I just wanted to share this with you cuz I'm really happy!

Hi! This is in ref to that post you made about anthropology!! I’m also an anthro major and will be finished with my degree after the next semester, and I totally get where it can be daunting. The thing about anthropology is that it includes so much and has so many different sub fields. Depending on the sub fields though, there’s different things you can do.

For archaeology, you’re looking at field work/just going on through and continuing as a scholar, contract archaeology, monitoring mining/construction sites or teaching it. It’s hard to squeeze lab work in the BA, but also not impossible, but you’d probably need further certification or to switch to a BS if that’s something you’d want to pursue.

For evolutionary anthropology, you’re looking mainly at jobs in lab work, forensics, or going forward and improving upon your degree and teaching it at a university somewhere, which would also open doors for lab work and other resources.

For linguistics/cultural anthropology, you’re looking at field work (usually done via grant money from a university, but also some of the most fun field work ever), archival/curatorial work, cultural resource management, journalism, or also, continuing on to teach it at the collegiate level.

There’s a lot of different ways to use the degree; I’m a double major with studio art which is obviously risky so my BA in anthropology has a concentration in archaeology because it’s probably the strongest as a fall back. Additionally, I plan to get an alternative teach license, which, because I’d have both degrees, would allow me to teach art (studio art) and history (anthropology) at the k-12 levels. This is also an example of something you could do if you’re interested in teaching, but there’s also so many other jobs you can do with a degree in anthropology depending on where your interests are and what experience you get over the course of your undergrad. If you’re not sure, I would say regardless, find at least three or four strong faculty connections; if you end up going for a career outside academics, they’re good references, but if you end up going the academic and/or field work route and you want to get into field schools or get grant money, having people you already know and who can vouch for you makes applying for those things easier. I’m sure this is a lot of info, but hopefully it helps!

Thank you much for sending me this! I haven't decided which sub-field of anthropology interests me the most but I have a strong understanding that I won't be pursuing biological or evolutionary anthropology (not that they're bad, but because I can't see myself doing well in those fields).

While I'm not interested in teaching, I appreciate the advice! I do think it's an honorable career but I don't have the patience for it lol.

I've spoken with the head of the anthropology department of my college and we've scheduled a meeting to go over future possibilities for me to use my degree for!

Here me out. Jayvik (and some Caitvi) headcanons. But modernize it and make it less sad. I don't feel like being sad.

Also I wrote this at like 2 in the morning in my notes app last night while brushing my teeth so a lot of it is gonna sound like rambling. Don't have time to fix it because a lab report and some tests to study for pray for me.

• Jayce is senior year undergraduate researcher, gonna stick around for a combined 4+1 undergrad/masters kinda deal; double majoring in mechanical engineering and physics

• Viktor's a grad student (BS in physics and a BA in math) working in the same lab, who kind of knew Jayce in passing as one of the //pretty// ones in the lab but being the antisocial little shit he is he doesn't collaborate well with anyone else in the lab and assumed he wouldn't mesh with Jayce either

• Jayce is almost kicked out of uni for his unsanctioned research he was doing as a "side gig" unbeknownst to the professor who runs the lab, God knows how he managed to keep it under wraps for so long

• Jayce gets drunk and unreasonable tries to hang himself in the lab (hello undiagnosed chronic depression and a mess of other mental illness that probably leads to more angst later) but Viktor who was working late, catches him and talks him down

• Oh you're asking why Jayce would go to such desperate measures? Welllll in my head it has something to do with it going on his record, Jayce kind of having some shit grades in school (too smart so he kind of doesn't apply himself deal but he has a silver tongue that he's managed to talk himself into all sorts of positions like this research one), a useless degree without grad school, and general hopelessness that can come with depression. Also crippling student loans hello.

• Viktor is one of Prof. Heimerdinger's TA so he helps to move Jayce's research to the prof's office but he snags Jayce's notes from under Heimerdinger's nose

• Viktor makes the comment about being "egotistical" in reference to Jayce's massive swirly ass signature since it's actually standard practice to sign your notes/notebook for patenting and legal reasons later on if you're successful with your endeavor

• The two gremlins manage to reach a breakthrough with Jayce's confiscated technology so uni just kinda goes with it because they want their name associated with the discovery

• Oh my god they were roommates but not the only two they stacked in 2 other roomies (ahem hi cait and vi) because rent ain't cheap bitches

• Viktor hates watching sci-fi movies or any action movies bc he can't stop nitpicking the fake science but endures it bc Jayce likes to watch them for the opposite reason he finds the inaccuracies funny

• Viktor is a hazard while driving (it's always the ones you don't expect to be the most aggressive) on the road and Jayce fears for his life every time he gets in Viktor's car. Jayce also has no options because he don't own a car.

• Jayce is the one who cooks in this household, Viktor can apply eyeliner like a god hurrdurr don't ask me about these I just feel it in my core

• Viktor brews moonshine in the cabinet under the bathroom sink that could probably make you go blind. It's for special occasions.

• Jayce and Vi are gym buddies

• Jayce snores pretty damn loud which annoys everyone in the house except for Viktor the local insomniac who can hear it through the walls and finds it kind of comforting as he works into the night in his room

• It's always a dishes war in this house until Cait, the youngest of the bunch, has to go mom mode and make a chore chart to make sure the house stays functional

• Viktor has a soft spot for slow dancing with Jayce

• Jayce and Viktor ended up getting together after Jayce came into the lab one slow Thursday, made too many stupid heat related jokes and dropped a godawful pickup line. It only worked because Viktor said yes out of equal parts frustration towards Jayce and towards the stupid calculations he couldn't figure out how to reduce the heat transfer on his prototype. The rest is history though

• NO VIKTOR IS NOT DYING HERE this is an AU everything is happy and gay it's fine, but Viktor is an amputee. Doesn't stop him from driving crazy though, much to someone's chagrin

• No one here can keep plants alive. No one. Not Cait, not Vi, not Jayce, not Viktor. The succulent death tally is above 15 at this point.

I'm sure you've probably already considered all your options, but what dragged me out of my post-graduation lost period was getting into graduate school.

I got to spend a summer abroad doing an archaeology thing in asia (right before covid, thank goodness), it got me the hell out of the town I felt trapped in, and though I am now more in student debt, eventually I will be more employable in less physically demanding work (I was working at Starbucks as a 24-year-old with a double-major BA/BS bachelor's degree, whichI was over qualified for and was not great for someone with physical health problems, I will probably be a professor or working scientist when i'm done).

I had a couple false starts because I was starting summer term 2020, which...yeah. Online learning and me are not friends.

But now, I have a support system from the university, friends, a reason to lave the house everyday, 2 age-peer roommates in grad student housing (bless UCLA for having on-campus housing for gradstudents) and am no longer trapped in a town with no friends that I'm afraid I'm gonna die in having never left.

Anyway, I'm not trying to offer unsolicited advice, since I'm sure you've already loomed at all your options, just sharing my story about what helped me immensely in case it wasn't an escape plan you'd considered.

No I appreciate you sharing Ty!! I've definitely considered grad school and it is something I hope to pursue in the next few years. I just wanna get my physical health issues squared away first before committing to anything like that

Does having more than one major mean you'll graduate with more than one degree?

It depends on the majors. With mine, I’ll only have two degrees even though I have three majors. Two of my majors are BS’s and one is a BA, so my BA will be in psychology while my BS will be in sociology and criminal justice. I think some schools do things differently, but because I’m going to grad school, it really doesn’t matter how many undergrad degrees I have since I’ll have a PhD eventually. But if you’re doing a double major and they’re both a BA or both a BS, it’s only one degree with both majors recognized

This story about MM's degree keeps doing the rounds. I have seen online that she graduated with a BS in Communication. NWU have stated that she did graduate, with double majors in theatre & international studies, so who says otherwise? Some people do their entire degree online, even before the pandemic. I can't see how anyone would have the proof that she was on- or off-campus, except for her time in Argentina (6 weeks, ? summer break) & Spain. I don't think that NWU would lie about her degree.

She did graduate with a BA in Communications in 2003, that much is true, I verified it myself, what she lied about is the double major. NWU did not have that combination of majors available at the time, nor do they now. At the time she attended university she needed a certain number of credits and time spent on campus to complete her degree and a double major would have required an additional semester or two on campus. Although she could have gotten credits for her time in Argentina, she didn't because she failed the junior diplomat tests.

yeah i know he said that, what's why i found his behaviour so odd. he was saying how he thinks george doesn't try that hard, and in last night's stream george was genuinely try-harding, and dream kept sabotaging him it was just v weird. like i know ofc dream doesn't mean it, he praises george to the high heavens haha. but it just wasn't like very fun to watch him be like that when george was trying so hard to win :')

yeah this is always why i try my best to word myself carefully because i don't want to sit here and preach like i know what george is feeling. i don't need to defend george from his own friends and i have no plans of doing that :') but i am allowed to say how i, as a viewer, feel about what i saw and how i would feel in the situation! :) us getting a little upset about how george was treated is not the same as us going 'uwu gogy i wish i could hug him that was so mean dream is awful booooooo'.. it was just an unfair situation, and regardless we're allowed to project, and people are allowed to agree or disagree. we can all just discuss it in a calm manner :)

yeah it can get very frustrating. not babying george should not mean you can insult him and put a joking or lighthearted tone indicator behind it. i feel like george's 'pretty privilege' is a double-edged sword. it feels like most people know him now for being the pretty one and a lot of people act like that's all there is. george fans get ridiculed a lot because people think we just watch him cause he's attractive. which is like??? why would i sit there for 2-3 hours of a stream just to look at someone's face? i literally sometimes just put on his calm solo streams in the background because i find his vibe relaxing, i don't even watch it. why would i do that if i only liked him for his face? he's not even my type anyway :'))) i just appreciate that he's a beautiful beautiful man, but i would never waste my time to watch someone just because of what they look like.

in general, people need to remember that these streamers are real people with feelings. and their job is on the internet, so they spend a lot of time on social media, and if you write a nasty comment about them, there actually is a high chance they will see it. i wish people just stayed respectful, and realised that their words carry weight :)

yeah i think they struggle a LOT with streaming etiquette. i feel like after all this time, they are aware of how people perceive them (after having to point out several times that george can take a joke that it's not that serious etc etc) they know that people get a little upset at these things. i get maybe like in the moment if they're really high strung or just frustrated, they just do what they do and don't think about the fact that over 100k people are witnessing them do it. which yeah, i think sometimes their arguments or disagreements get too personal - and they are friends so they are fine with it, but we don't know their thought process, we don't know them the way they know each other, so we just see what's on the surface. and on the surface it often looks like a negative situation, and people get either worried or upset or frustrated.

because here's the thing - we watch streams to enjoy ourselves. george is my favourite streamer, and my idea of enjoyment isn't to see him trying hard to win at something and his friends sabotaging him, getting in the way and acting like he's incapable of achieving something by himself :') and a toxic vibe is just no fun to watch. i get that that's their friendship and like i'm not saying they should change anything about it - but there's nothing wrong with us venting, with expressing ourselves and releasing our frustrations. we are all allowed to feel different things. just because i'm not a fan of how george was treated, doesn't mean i'm trying to baby him. if i was babying him, i'd be @'ing dream and co on twitter and demanding he apologise lmao. saying i think it was unfair of them to say george was being carried when george was doing fine on his own is not the equivalent of babying someone.

15. Talk about something exciting or good that happened to you this year. Well it didn’t really happen to ME but our youngest child and one of our middle children graduated this year. Youngest from HS and also with an AA degree from college, and our middle child with highest honors from University with a double major (BS and BA degrees). We had a graduation ceremony at the house where they got to wear their full regalia and cords, we zoomed with the family so they could see. We even had an international guest speaker :-)  Our dear friend @jaqgreenspon aka Professor Greenspon. It was a wonderful day and both of the kids were glad we did it - even though they were both so disappointed that they didn’t get the graduation ceremonies that everyone else typically gets. But apparently we did good because they said they liked this even better!  And then our oldest daughter is getting married in 2 days! We’re so happy for her and we love her fiance, he’s so great and we can’t wait for him to officially be a part of the family.  Oh I guess the exciting thing that happened to me this year is that hubby and I are now living full time up on the mountain which is something we’ve been working towards for 3 years.

17. What is something you own that is important to you? What makes it so important? Old photos. Ones of ancestors, some I knew some I didn’t, of my mom, my dad, my brother, me, my husband, our kids.  They’re important to me because I feel connected to these people and they bring back wonderful memories. The ones of my mom are especially important because I’m still not over losing her, so being able to see her face (and not just in my mind) is really great.

22. What do you like most about nature? Oh my gosh where do I begin?? Nature has always been my muse if you will. I feel so at home with nature. I love its beauty, its touch.  I love its colors, its sounds, its voice, its scents. I love that I’m most inspired by nature creatively, philosophically, emotionally etc.  It is in Nature that I feel that is where I truly belong. Like, when I die I want to return to nature - my family knows that if possible I want my ashes to be planted as a tree.

Lol this girl from my college did such a difficult degree to complete (it was a doublr major double minor--BS in Zoology & Conservation Science [which doesn't have time for you to do any other program], BA in Music, and a double minor in Dance and Leadership) just to see the abortion protestors that come to campus with fake aborted fetus pictures to harass the student body with on a portable LED TV they drove around our 2-block campus and SHE decided with all of her galaxy brain that she too would harass innocent people who needs lifesaving abortions with misinformation
