here where i am you need to leave the leaves and standing dead plants and such until mid-april or even may to make sure everyone is awake. i know the paperwasp tribe we had a friendly relationship with is all gone for the winter but i hope their new foundress is hiding somewhere safe in the leaf litter and will start a new nestful of neighbors in the springtime
#and i am hoping some of the mice in the brushpile will move out so we can get bumblebees in there...#i may build a bumblebee home with cat fur to see if i can entice them. i hope the wildflowers come back strong i did sow a little late#excited to finish some commissions and go out and get a couple more native perennials to add to the flowerbed!!#birdenest

BOTD: Carolina Wren
Photo: Miki Jourdan
"More brightly colored than most wrens, and with a rich musical song, Carolina Wrens are common in open woods and backyards in the southeast. There they busily explore brushpiles and low tangles. The adults live in pairs all year, and they may 'duet' at any season, with the female giving a chattering note while the male sings. The northern edge of this species' range varies over time: it gradually expands northward during series of mild years, then gets knocked southward again by very severe winters."

Not in tags since an image, but fat groundhog got stuck under fence after eating the sunflower seeds out of the bird feed bowl. He's been getting big all summer and fall and lives in the brushpile we keep out back.
Anyway if you see this you have to reblog and tag with a delight from ur day -- even the littlest thing counts

Where Do Backyard Rabbits Live? Exploring Their Habitat Where Do Cottontails Find Shelter in Your Backyard? What Makes New England Cottontails the Perfect Backyard Rabbit? What Makes New England Foxtails Ideal for Backyard Rabbits? Are New England Jackrabbits Thriving in Backyard Habitats? Are Eastern Foxtails a Threat to Backyard Rabbits? If you're thinking about keeping a few backyard rabbits, you need to know a few things before you start the process. Here are some tips to keep your rabbits safe. First, brushpiles are great for providing thermal protection to your rabbits during cold weather. They're also good for hiding from ground predators. Make sure to place them away from the tall edge of your woodlot so they don't have a perch where avian predators can sit. https://backyardbunnynews.com/where-do-backyard-rabbits-live-exploring-their-habitat/?feed_id=8079&_unique_id=66e6be9b06ca3

💕💕💕
(Writing ask game— under a cut because long)
7) Post a snippet from a WIP
This is from a sequel of sorts to Ghost Stories-- it's been in the works forever. Maybe now with Series 4 out I can resurrect it...
It had all started when Pat and the Captain had been unloading the car just as the sun was beginning to set.
They’d come back from a holiday involving a great deal of camping and seeing all sorts of historical sights all over Cornwall. They had also, judging by the way the Captain was limping, either had a lot of sex or done a lot of falling off cliffs. Or both. That very day they’d gone to see the White Horse at Uffington en route home, which filled them both with a rhapsody that seemed to quite defy possibility.
“This great country of ours,” Patrick had said, happily brandishing a heavily-annotated paper map. It had both his and the Captain’s handwriting on it, which was very sweet. Perhaps except for the bits where they had vigorously crossed out each other’s annotations and written no underneath.
“All right, Kitty?” asked Pat when she came crunching over the gravel to see them.
“All right,” she said.
“Found you something!” Pat said eagerly, and dove into a carrier bag that said No Sugar, I’m Sweet Enough! (Kitty had once seen the Captain trying to burn it in one of Robin’s brushpiles and had been sworn to absolutely secrecy).
She could hear the two of them through the walls, sometimes, Pat’s voice followed by the rumble of the Captain’s answer.
A soft, helpless whimper followed by Pat’s gentle, “it’s okay, it’s okay. Breathe for me, love.”
It was a prurient interest, of course, but sometimes she caught the edge of something else in her feelings about it. A yearning, perhaps.
“Here we are!” Pat said eagerly, emerging with a small parcel wrapped in an old Cornish & Devon Post.
“Gosh,” she said when she ripped it open. “Where ever did you find these?”
“Little charity shop in Barnstaple. You wouldn’t believe the confusion in the old dear’s eyes when we came up to the till with them.” Pat clasped his hands together, eyes sparkling.
The Captain grunted noncommittally and heaved a cooler out of the boot.
They were 80s bodice-rippers. Gloriously, gloriously 80s; the bodice-rippiest of bodice-rippers. The cover art was magnificent in the corniest, most sensational sort of way.
________________________________________________
10) Do you work on multiple wips or stick to one fic at a time?
Historically, it's been one (especially with the big stuff), but I've got a few going at the moment-- I find that it does help my thinking to be switching back and forth between multiple things... it shakes stuff in my brain loose, or something like that. Unfortunately, it also means that I have a sense of having a greater volume of unfinished business ...
77) Why do you enjoy writing fanfiction?
A great deal of it is just playing in the sandbox— especially with other people, or writing things with other people in mind. I do first and foremost write for myself, but I do write in little gifts for others. Writing is fun! (Except when it’s agony. I never do learn to trust the process).
It also, interestingly enough, generally helps me organize my brain/figure out what I’m working through in life, thematically-speaking--- that stuff tends to show up in my writing. Plus there's something really nifty about making the same canon into all sorts of different things, looking at it from different angles.

mutt wonders if this new affiliation means he will travel to those places. it stokes a fire in him, a sort of wanderlust that ultimately stems from necessity, though not by any means without some genuine curiosity. above that, though, an anxiety constantly propels him ever forward. an itch to escape when someone sours to him, or the threat begins to haunt him too heavily. staying in any one place for too long begins to feel like a ticking time bomb.
"i joined up in new york. for the war, i mean." though, he supposes, he also joined up to them in that state. "i lived there, far as i can remember." and died. in the centuries to come, he will find himself pulled back to it—the city, especially—with the same subdued fondness andy has for her scythia. he will see it morph into a place where the buildings scrape the sky and the people ride in a hole in the ground.
he sniffs. someone is burning a brushpile nearby. "there is a town in about ten minutes or thereabouts. we can rest the mules there, and rest ourselves at the inn." it doesn't come out sounding like a suggestion.
then, some minutes later: "did you feel it when it happened?" no polite lead-in, trepidation, or apology. this is where his blunt, steely nature comes in handy.
SHE'S TRYING NOT TO LIE TO HIM. She has no reason to; she intends on them being in each other's lives for a long time, so any falsehoods would surely unravel themselves in nature's due course. The truth is so fantastical that stretching it further would be overkill, anyways.
As serious and stern as Mutt is—especially for the age he looks—he's taking this in stride well enough, though. In a couple of centuries, Niles Freeman will be more resistant, more skeptical. (And in just a few decades, Booker will be Booker.)
As much as Mutt insists he likes his solitude, maybe there's still a part of him that years for something different. It would be only human if he did; Andy can't look down on him for that.
"Scythia," she says, traces of fondness and longing apparent only to those who know her best, only to Nicky and Yusuf. Mutt will think her level-headed and detached.
"In Greece." Andy is well aware she's describing places that sound far-off enough to be fake to him. How did they end up here? They were always supposed to, is all; he's here.
"We're from all over the globe. Yusuf first—first discovered what he was," Died, she means, "In Jerusalem. Nicolò is Italian."
