god i feel u so much on the not being able to use fancy detail brushes thing, i also use a textured brush (idk abt you but it stops me from obsessing over the lines being 100% Absolutely Perfectly Neat & Even) and i cry every time i see a cool brush that would just look totally out of place in comparison lmao. i keep telling myself someday ill make a whole bunch of custom ones that match my main brush... someday.....

I REALLY THINK THAT'S JUST WHAT WE GOTTA DO.... i do feel like by slowly playing w other ppl's custom brushes (i have to really recommend @robogart, @inspiderwiht and @pharanbrush as artists who create custom brush packs that i REALLY love!), i'm starting to understand very gradually what all the different settings and tweaks and adjustments do, which helps a lot + does make me feel like eventually i can work my way up to tackling my own...!

when i first started out the brush settings panel was SO overwhelming, so it felt like any time i downloaded a brush it was like. either i like it or i don't, and one tiny gripe abt it could ruin my experience w a brush that could otherwise be super useful and fun for me!! bc i didn't really feel capable of really getting into the guts of it and fucking around (also esp when u are on deadlines and stuff it's like. bro i cannot afford to Find Out rn and also i simply do not have time to spend an hour trying to figure out if i can make the pressure curve on this thing play nice w me). BUT giving myself a little bit of time whenever i'm doing personal doodling or warmups or w/e to experiment and mess around has been really really good for making me feel like i can take more control over the tools :D

I GUESS i am rambling majorly and a lot of this has nothing to do w the actual point of ur ask (esp the kind of. stamp brushes or fully drawn stuff like clothing trim/buttons/etc where it really IS like okay either it can blend w ur art style or it can't) BUT my point is just. grips ur arm in solidarity. by fucking around a tiny bit each day. one day we will understand digital brush composition + function enough to make our own. and then it's over for all of you bitches

How do u paint?? Like what's the process

i go into a lot of my thinking process here but on the kind of technical side, lately ive been thumbnailing -> painting over the thumbnail on the same layer -> seeing where it goes from there. generally. when im painting over a character the character is usually all on one layer and i do flat colors & shading and everything at once. but i spend a lot of time figuring out a composition i like and im very iterative. its fun but its time consuming and its easy to get ur brain fatigued but its how ive always done things it feelz like.

for brushes i love using @/robogart's brushes they have soooo many and i forgot which pack i got but they're all really good i cant recommend enough. texturework is sooo fun with these. if you mess around with the csp halftone layer effect you can get a checkerboard pattern which i use sometimes. i tend to tread lightly with layer blending modes these days because its easy to muddy up everything but i love using lighter color/darker color layers. and ive never figured out how to blend things properly in general so i dont do that<3

hi !! i was wondering what brushes u use/what art program:3 (is that the right word??😭 whatever)

i use clip studio paint, which IMO is the best program on the market right now. pretty sure there's an ipad version too, but i've heard it isn't quite as good? can't personally attest to it though

the main brush i've been using right now is this one. i use it for literally everything nowadays. i also recommend these brush packs from robogart, especially if you like texture

but of course, you can create plenty of fine illustrations with default brushes on a free program

and sure! i usually use either these ones i made myself [namely the icecream sundae one] or a brush that csp will just not let me upload anywhere but it’s basically a softer edited version of apple pie from that same set. i use those for lines/sketching

i also like using these for sketching, namely the hard one

recently i’ve also been using @robogart’s brushes a lot, i bought them when they were on sale a little while ago and they’re very fun to use :] namely these ones

[the closer to the top they are the more i tend to use them — the top 3 are like the Main Ones for colouring/rendering]

also used this for the sketch/lines/most of the rendering of my most recent apotheosis drawing because i wanted to try out softer lines and it was pretty nice so i think i’ll end up using it more :]

Re-read Tokyo Mew Mew. It’s a fun and short, if Incredibly Dated shoujo manga with a bouncy art-style and corny twists. Not the most deepest comic I read, but sometimes that is not necessarily a bad thing. Anyway, @trueteeth drew these sketches and I got their permission to color them, and done so. AUs of our Veil party (sans Synch) turned into magical girls with Special Endangered Animal powers! Huzzah!

Discussion with friends had resulted in the artistic creation of aus of characters from a long-stasis’d pbta game (such is the life of tabletops). Anyway, here is Tokyo Mew Mew Au of Fortuna Zhou (my middle-aged archaeologist), who has the DNA of a Dwarf Musk Deer (the antlers are just a fancy headband). Her weapons are obviously claws (and probably kicking or whatever). Her codename is Mew Scallions because I have no control over where the imagination wanders yonder. Huzzah!

Anyway, I just wanted to test out brushes I bought from @/robogart.
