OK, after a long month of posting US beers, finally European beers! A bbq today and even though white wine and gin & tonics were preferred by most family members and visiting friends, I did find one person to share 3 nice refreshing bitter relatively low alcohol Belgian beers with, our neighboring pensioned pastor who happens to enjoy fresh gerstenat. So, which 3 did we taste? Red My Lips from Brussels Beer Project (Brussels), Super Noah from Brouwerij ‘t Verzet (West-Vlaanderen), and Belgoo Bio Blond from Brouwerij Belgoo (Vlaams-Brabant). Then later in the evening, after all was cleaned, I pulled out Smeerolie, an Imperial Stout from Brouwerij De Moersleutel (Alkmaar, the Netherlands); a little too far on the sweet side for my preference, but still quite all right. I thought about making a collage of all the beers I tasted today at the 1st (hopefully annual) BXL BeerFest, but I figured tiny photo's wouldn't do any justice to 1) the wide variety on beers available, 2) the new (international) friends I made (Andrew, Varun and Jason from Austin, Texas; Matt S & from Ohio; many others!), and 3) the passionate brewers I met, so I decided to let simplicity rule the day with this photo of the most recent brochure to my collection with an almost empty grass (always a sign to get off my butt to get another beer), and the wooden background symbolizing all the Barrel-aged beers I tasted today.
