“I just forgot about it! Why are you making such a big deal out of it?” 

“Nay- Ya Rajal… Please tell me you’re joking!” 

You and Nayef were arguing about him forgetting to wash the dishes: again. This is the second time you brought it up, but it really irritated you that you had to wash the dishes again even though he promised to do it. To others, it may not seem like a big deal, but you two agreed to split the household chores equally, but it seems like Nayef has conveniently forgot to wash the dishes. 

Nayef huffed, “It’s only the dishes. I don’t understand why you are upset over it.” 

“Because you had promised me that you will be responsible for the dishes. That is what we agreed on. Or do I have to remind you for the millionth time?” 

“So patronising.” He muttered and you just stared blankly at him. 

“Excuse me?” 

“You heard.” 

This argument was going in circles. You say one point, but Nayef stubbornly brings up a whole other subject into the conversation.

“How am I being patronising?” You asked. 

“Because all the time ‘Nay do this,’ ‘Nay do that’! Always demanding things without a ‘please’ or a ‘thank you’! All this nagging: I’m tired.” He slowly raised his voice. 

“Because you never help! Not even on your days off!” You were becoming more irritated by the minute. 

“I am tired! I am trying to relax!” 

“Nay, please try to understand-” 

“Understand what?! I am a busy man Y/N! I have a career! I am not always able to be at home and now you know that! But here you are, being selfish and only over thinking about yourself. Burdening me with the stupidest of things and acting as dishes!” 

You were speechless. He had never yelled at you like that. Once he saw the distraught look on your face, he regretted everything he said in the heat of the moment. 

“Hayati. I-” 

“Nayef, don’t. Please.” You mumbled weakly, avoiding his eyes. You didn’t want him to see the tears that were slowly cascading down your face. 

“I didn…” 

“Save it.” 

With frustration rising like lava, you walked away leaving Nayef in the kitchen. 

In that moment, Nayef knew he had royally fucked up. He let out a loud sigh of regret and grabbed his keys to head to Kurt’s house. Nayef slammed the door, leaving you in solitude. 

You began to feel guilty for the way you approached the situation. You sat on the sofa, letting all the salty tears fall, not caring if they ruined your cashmere pillows that were adorned on your sofa. Every emotion you had bottled up, flowed freely. What was worse was that there was no one to comfort you. Your only source of comfort and safety had walked out. 

You have been having a hard time at work recently. You worked as a social media manager for a luxury clothing brand, which was your dream job, but you wanted to quit because you’ve had to do all of the work for the end-of-year Fashion Exhibition that your incompetent coworkers decided that they didn’t want to partake in. Meaning you had to work overtime, even on your days off and create the campaign by yourself. Even if it was completed by yourself, your department would still take most of the credit. Which you have had enough of. You contemplated telling your boss, but you know that would not end well. You had kept this all from Nayef as you did not want to burden him with your struggles as he has his own struggles with the media criticising him as a player and blaming him for West Ham not having a good season. You were angry with yourself that you were being selfish and only thinking about yourself. 

Anxious, but dangerous thoughts kept on piling in your head: making you go slowly insane. 

Nayef is going to leave you. 

You can’t even have a normal conversation with him. 

Do you think with that attitude you are going to keep him? 

He still loves you. 

He doesn’t. You’re a burden, a baggage. Nayef could do with so much better. 

All the negative thoughts were drowning out the positives ones, making your heart clench and making you feel ill. You just laid on your sofa, motionless. Hearing nothing but your loud cries.

Nayef was at Kurt’s house, feeling sick to his stomach for the way he talked to you. He had promised to speak to you with tenderness and kindness, but he had broken that promise. Over something as small as dishes. The guilt was piling up. Especially now that Kurt’s wife, Sandra was going in on him. 

“Ya Kelb, you must be insane for talking to her like that! She is your wife! Kon andak hchouma.” Sandra scolded, with Kurt just nodding his head, agreeing with his wife. 

“I know.” Nayef looked downed, feeling ashamed. 

Sandra looked at Nayef’s sad expression and then looked back at Kurt who had the same sympathetic expression. They both understand Nayef’s guilt and that what he said was just in the heat of the moment and he truly did not mean anything. 

“Nayef, I understand the way Y/N spoke to you was not the best and you have the stress of the team on your shoulders, but yelling was not the answer,” Sandra advised, “Especially when Y/N is not doing well right now.” 

“She what?” Nayef was shocked. 

“Y/N has been having an awful time at work with the end of year fashion exhibition. She has been running around, doing it all by herself. It has taken a huge toll on her.” Sandra replied, “I know the client personally, so I’ll have to send an email of complaint about her department. Those idiots.” 

Nayef was shocked to hear about your struggles from a different person. He was hurt that you were struggling and that he couldn’t do anything about it. “But why wouldn’t she tell me? I would listen to everything she would say.” 

Sandra sighed, “You know Y/N. She doesn’t like to tell us about her problems and West Ham are not having a great season.” 

“So, she didn’t want to say anything… because of me and my selfishness?” 

Sandra slightly nodded. Now, he realised that his wife, the love of his life was not the one being selfish: It was Nayef. He never expected that a small dispute could be He knew he had to talk to Y/N and make things right.

“Nayef. Where are you going?” 

“I’m leaving.” 

“Why? I thought we were okay?” 

You started crying, pulling on his shirt, trying to stop him from leaving. Just like people have in the past. Nayef’s gaze was emotionless, avoiding your eyes which were glazed with hurt, pain and trauma. 

“Nayef, talk to me. Please.” 

Nayef took a deep sigh and looked at you with hatred in his eyes. 

“I hate you. I always will. You have made me despise you, because of how much you burden me. Always crying. Always blubbering. Always shutting me out. I can’t handle it anymore. Hopefully, you will find someone who will be able to deal with you. I can’t. Now let me go.” He replied with venom in his voice. 

He pushed past you, picking up his suitcase, nudging you away. You started screaming, begging him not to leave you.” 

“Nayef! Please don’t leave me!” You screamed, repeatedly. 

“Y/N!” 

“Nayef! I am sorry! Don’t go! I need you!” 

“Y/N!” 

You woke up in shock with your body shaking from the adrenaline rush that the nightmare gave you. Soon, you began to calm down from a familiar comforting scent that surrounded you. 

“Nay?” 

“I’m here, hbiba. I’m not going anywhere.” His whisper made you melt even further into his embrace. 

“I’m so sorry Nay. For the argument I caused.” You apologised with a weak whisper. 

Nayef looked at you with adoration and love in his eyes and kissed your forehead, which fluttered your heart. 

Nayef apologised with sadness, “No hbiba, I am sorry. I should have considered your feelings more. I am sorry for calling you selfish, when this whole time I was being selfish. Only caring about my problems and leaving you to struggle by yourself. Sandra told me about what has been happening at work. You have done nothing wrong.” 

Nayef takes his hands into yours, “Ghzalin, remember our wedding night where we sat in bed, talking about how excited we were for the future?” 

“Of course, omri,” You smiled gently, “It was the most magical day of my life.” 

“I promised you certain things and I broke them.” Nayef choked on his words, trying to not cry, “I am so sorry Hayati. I promised you that I will protect you and your heart. I broke that promise. I promised that I will always talk to you with respect and a gentle tone. I broke that promise. Hearing that you were struggling from someone else other than you hurt me. I never want to see you hurt.” 

“I’m sorry for not telling you. I know you and the team have been struggling I was scared that you were going to abandon me….” 

“Hayati, I could give less of a crap about how we’re struggling with the league. It’s upsetting that we are not doing well, but you are more important than football. I would never abandon you. I will never leave you. Please never think that. I am always here for you. When you struggle, we will struggle together. I will do better with the household chores and not neglect you. But please, promise that you will not bottle up your feelings whenever you have a struggle.” 

“I promise.” You gave Nayef a soft kiss. 

Nayef kissed you back with affection. The kiss washed your anxieties away like a wave in the vast ocean. His hands caressed your waist pulling you closer. He refused to let you go. Not now. Not ever. You looked into his eyes, signalling that you forgave him, and he smiled, telling you that he has forgiven you. Even though, you will still have small disputes in the future: Nothing will be able to put you two apart.
