....I also just realized why Sammy wasn't the one handling the tranq gun in the finale (besides the no-fun "wELL hE's tHe mAiN ChARacteR" explanation): she's exhausted and still trying not to tear her sides open. Probably feels like her stomach is on fire, even after she gobbled down half a bottle of painkillers on the boat.

By this logic, we can thus conclude that Darius is probably the second-best shot on the team (assuming sometime during the six months of hiding, Sammy taught them all how to use a salvaged gun). This is not an unreasonable assumption, either! Darius got to the island for his gaming skills, so he's got steady hands--and before you say "Gaming skills don't translate to real life!"--

Darius also has great aim in real life. Even under pressure, he can keep a steady hand and has good aim. Remember when he blew up Toro?

And while it hasn't happened yet, he also manages to almost bullseye Rexy in the dark and the rain in order to save Yaz from getting toilet-lawyered. The kid knows how to aim!

"Yes, but just because he can aim doesn't necessarily qualify him for the spot of Number Two Marksman on the team!" (heck, he might even be Number One, just because Sammy has definitely learned how to clean, handle, and shoot a gun doesn't mean she's good at it, let alone an Expert); that's a fair consideration, but we can look at the others to see why we can weed them out:

-Kenji is a slacker. Regardless of his development, his "Finally step up and show responsibility" episode happened the day prior. Sammy probably saw how he was handling the gun when she started training and immediately realized "No, I like us all havin' an even number of eyes and hands" and promptly moved to the next one in line.

-If the training took place in the first two months, Yaz's leg would still be healing and Ben would be MIA. As for two-to-six-month Yaz, we'll, she's not necessarily a biathlete. I mean, she's a bi athlete, but maybe her aim isn't great. Maybe she gets impatient on the trigger, maybe she waits too long, maybe she overcompensates, who knows? She hits things with rocks and sticks, that's what Yazes do.

-Why would you ever give Ben a gun?

-This, of course, leaves our other most viable candidate. Little Miss Do-It-All, the Jill of All Trades, Brooklynn! Who, even if she never Unboxed Duck Dynasty or Self-Defense With Firearms, should still be a capable student! She has steady hands and has physical capabilities, girl punched a hammerhead and worked with seamstresses. Which is all well and good! Save for one problem...

Her vision ain't 20/20. And while, yes, Kenji knows nothing about her here and is playing the con...

...Chaos Theory concepts considered giving her the spectacles. And maybe it was the brain damage! The girl had multiple huge falls and filled her lungs with toxic gas until she passed out! But it's also possible that she's legally blind in one eye, or partially nearsighted, or farsighted. There could have been a whole deleted episode about the kids getting contacts and eyedrops for her, or getting her to be comfortable with glasses that the studio realized they didn't have the budget to animate.

Bringing it back to Darius one final time, then: it is not only logical to assume that he's the best marksman in the CampFam, but it also further rationalizes his career path in Chaos Theory: he could have gone into Paleocare or behavioral studies, but he went and interned with the DPW at 17, and presumably hit the field. Natural aiming ability and good reflexes would have definitely helped impress his superiors beyond his wealth of knowledge: kid knows his way around the field AND has a steady hand? He's a keeper.
