Vickers Wellesley
Against a background of a rock formation, a British bomber takes off on May 15, 1941, from somewhere in East Africa, leaving behind a trail of smoke and sand. The Vickers Wellesley was a British 1930s light bomber built by Vickers-Armstrongs at Brooklands near Weybridge, Surrey, for the Royal Air Force. While it was obsolete by the start of the Second World War, and unsuited to the European air war, the Wellesley was successfully used in the desert theatres of East Africa, Egypt and the Middle East.
The design originated from the Air Ministry Specification G.4/31 which called for a general purpose aircraft, capable of carrying out level bombing, army co-operation, dive bombing, reconnaissance, casualty evacuation and torpedo bombing. The biplane Vickers Type 253 design, which used a radical geodesic airframe construction that was derived from that used by Barnes Wallis in the airship R100, was ordered by the Ministry and tested against the specification along with the Fairey G.4/31, Westland PV-7, Handley Page HP.47, Armstrong Whitworth A.W.19, Blackburn B-7, Hawker P.V.4 and the Parnall G.4/31. The Type 253 was declared the winner, with 150 being ordered.
The Vickers Type 246 monoplane, which used the same geodetic design principles for both the fuselage and wings, was then built as a private venture, first flown at Brooklands by Vickers' Chief Test Pilot J "Mutt" Summers, on 19 June 1935 and offered to the RAF. This had superior performance, but did not attempt to meet the multi-role requirements of the specification, being designed as a bomber only. An initial order for 96 Type 246s was substituted for the Type 253 order.[1] The RAF ultimately ordered a total of 176 with the service name "Wellesley", to a newly written specification 22/35, with a 14-month production run starting in March 1937.
The Wellesley was a single-engine monoplane with a very high aspect ratio wing, and a manually operated, retractable undercarriage. As it was not known how the geodetic structure could cope with being disrupted by a bomb bay, the Wellesley's bomb load was carried in two streamlined panniers under the wings. The Wellesley Mk I had two separate cockpits, but this was changed in the Wellesley Mk II to a single-piece cockpit canopy covering both the pilot and navigator positions.
The RAF received its first Wellesleys in April 1937, serving with No.76 Squadron at Finningley, and eventually equipped six RAF Bomber Command squadrons in the UK. Five aircraft with provisions for three crew members were modified for long-range work with the RAF Long-Range Development Flight. Additional modifications included the fitting of Pegasus XXII engines and extra fuel tanks. On 5 November 1938, three of them under command of S/L R. Kellett flew non-stop for two days from Ismailia, Egypt to Darwin, Australia (7,162 mi/11,525 km) setting a world distance record. All three aircraft succeeded in breaking the existing record, but No. 2 aircraft landed in West Timor, 500 mi (800 km) short of the final objective. The Wellesley's record remained unbroken until November 1945. To this day, though, this flight remains the longest by a single engined aircraft,
By the outbreak of the Second World War, the Wellesley had been phased out from home based squadrons, with only four examples remaining in Britain, but remained in service with three squadrons based in the Middle East.[6] Following the Italian declaration of war on 10 June 1940, the remaining Wellesley squadrons became involved in the East African Campaign against Italian forces in Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somaliland.
Sudan-based Wellesleys carried out their first bombing mission on 11 June 1940 against Asmara in Eritrea. Although obsolete, the Wellesley formed a major part of the British Commonwealth's available bomber forces, mainly carrying out raids against Eritrea and Northern Ethiopia. In the early part of the campaign, fighter escort was not available, and when caught by Fiat CR.42s, proved vulnerable to the Italian biplane fighter. Despite this, the Wellesley continued to be used for bombing raids, bombing Addis Ababa from Aden on 18 August. The Wellesley continued in use against the Italians over East Africa until November 1941, when Gondar, the last Italian-held town, fell to Commonwealth and Ethiopian forces. The final Wellesley equipped unit, 47 Squadron was then switched to carrying out maritime reconnaissance duties over the Red Sea, continuing in this role until September 1942.
While the Wellesley was not a significant combat aircraft, the design principles that were tested in its construction were put to good use with the Wellington medium bomber that became one of the main types of Bomber Command in the early years of the European war.
In February 1940, three Wellesleys (K7728, K7735 and K8531) were sold to Egypt to serve in the Royal Egyptian Air Force

First & last The cars we left behind in 2020 Bentley Mulsanne, 1980 and Bentley Mulsanne, 2020. The original Mulsanne was in production until 1992 when the name was dropped but the model carried on as the Brooklands and Turbo R. The new generation Mulsanne was introduced in 2010 under VW’s ownership though it was still powered by an updated version of the L-series 6.75 litre V8. 1937 EXCELSIOR 350CC MANXMAN REGISTRATION NO. FFC 955 FRAME NO. MM722 ENGINE NO. CXB210
Like most other pioneers of Britain’s motorcycle industry Excelsior fitted European manufacturers’ proprietary engines at first before turning to home-produced power plants - mainly Villiers, JAP, and Blackburne. Acquired by R Walker & Sons in 1919, Excelsior moved from Coventry to Tyseley, Birmingham. The Walkers believed in the value of racing for development and publicity and the revitalised company was soon making its mark in competition, early successes including a number of World Records set at Brooklands by Tony Worters on 250cc and 350cc JAP-engined machines in 1926. Today Excelsior is best remembered for its overhead-cam Manxman.
Although it had proved fast enough to win the 1933 Lightweight TT in Syd Gleave's hands, Excelsior’s complex twin-cam, radial four-valve ‘Mechanical Marvel’ proved something of a disappointment thereafter and at the end of the 1934 season the Tyseley firm opted for a simpler design: the Manxman. Like the Marvel, the Manxman engine was built by Blackburne, though increasing friction with its engine supplier forced Excelsior to take over production themselves early in 1936. A single-overhead-camshaft, two-valve design, the Manxman was built in 250, 350 and 500cc capacities. Road and race versions were offered, though the 500 was only ever marketed as a sports roadster. Although it never won a TT, the Manxman enjoyed considerable success in international racing and the Manx Grand Prix, Denis Parkinson winning the Lightweight race three times on the trot between 1936 and 1938. Notable Manxman developments included the switch to a shorter-stroke 250 engine in 1937 and the adoption (also applied to the 350) of an aluminium-alloy cylinder head with right-hand exhaust port.
This 1938-model 350cc Manxman was first registered by King’s Motors (Oxford) Ltd in October 1937. Restored in 1995, ‘FFC 955’ was purchased by the current vendor at Brooks’ Stafford Sale in April 1997 (Lot 402). Kept serviced and used recently, the Manxman was ridden to and from its recent MoT inspection and is described as in generally excellent condition. The machine is offered with DVLA and Oxford CC correspondence, old-style continuation logbook (issued 1954), MoT/tax to March 2013 and Swansea V5C registration document

Vickers Wellington Ia ’N2980 / R’ by Alan Wilson Via Flickr: c/n unknown Built at Brooklands 1939 and delievered to 149 Squadron at RAF Mildenhall. She later flew with 37 Squadron at RAF Feltwell before being transferred to Scotland with No.20 Operational Training Unit (20OTU) at RAF Lossiemouth. It was while with 20OTU on 31st December 1940 that she suffered an engine failure during a training flight and ditched in Loch Ness. The remains were located in 1976 and recovered in September 1985 by the Loch Ness Wellington Association, assisted by the National Heritage Memorial Fund. She was in amazing condition for an aeroplane which had been underwater for 45 years and her navigation lights still worked when connected to a new battery. She was delivered directly to Brooklands for restoration and eventual display as one of only two surviving Wellingtons. Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, Surrey, UK 20th August 2020

Arranged Marriage AU Masterlist
Links Last Checked: May 13th, 2024
part two
A Marriage of Inconvenience (ao3) - WhinyWingedWinchester loki/tony, natasha/thor, odin/frigga M, 80k
Summary: Forced into an arranged marriage with Prince Loki of Aysgarth, Tony knows that he is not the ideal husband to the son of a king, but he still hopes that he might find true love with his husband like the stories he loves to read of adventures and happily-ever-afters.
Prince Loki, however, does not wish to be married, and he makes this clear to Tony even after their vows have been said before the priest. Life is no better for Tony in Castle Aysgarth than it was back in Iron Reach - he is as unwanted by Loki as he was by his father.
But slowly, things change. There is a steadily growing affection between them, something that might, perhaps, grow into more and Tony can only hope his love for Loki might one day be returned.
But then an assassin strikes unexpectedly, pirates attack, and Tony very well might be living an adventure from one of his books, but it looks like happily-ever-after might be too much to hope for.
Brookland House (ao3) - Ark steve/bucky E, 8k
Summary: “You seem distressed, my angel. Are you not pleased with the match? The word from court is that Lord James Barnes is an upstanding gentleman, not given to the wild circles around the Prince Regent. And Steve, it was he who asked for you. The young man has kept you in mind all these years -- despite our circumstances.”
Cold as the Night (ao3) - whatcolourmyeyes darcy/loki T, 27k
Summary: Darcy has been sent with Jane to Asgard as her personal handmaiden... but her presence there might have more purpose than she knows.
Gold Standard (ao3) - TenSpencerRiedPlease tony/t’challa N/R, 39k
Summary: T’Challa sighs, somewhat annoyed with the turn of events in his life as of late. The need to open Wakanda up to the rest of the world is necessary for a number of reasons, T’Challa agreed, but he did not know why that should involve marrying him off. He thought Wakanda was past that particularly dark part of their history where they treated their omegas like cattle more than people but his father’s current plan to integrate them into world politics stated otherwise.
*
Tony had zero interest in Wakanda, the prince, or anything else in relation to this whole marriage thing. But Obi had insisted, claiming it would be good for the company.
Hate doesn't even describe it (ao3) - elcapitan_rogers steve/natasha E, 153k
Summary: Steve hated Natasha. Natasha hated Steve. Everything was fine until their parents decided to fuck shit up for them...
Inimitable (ao3) - TenSpencerRiedPlease tony/t’challa N/R, 63k
Summary: Tony has absolutely no interest in this marriage but his mom seems to think this is a good idea. “I worked hard on finding someone you would actually get along with, Tony. I’m sure you will be happy,” she says.
Happy with someone in some random foreign nation that he’s never met before? Yeah, he gives his mom an incredulous look for that. “Something tells me this isn’t going to end well, but it’s only the rest of my life,” he mumbles.
*
T’Challa isn’t exactly sure about this marriage but his father insisted and he maybe loves his father a little too much given that he agreed to this.
Life, Love, Empire and Cake (ao3) - manic_intent thor/peter quill E, 45k
Summary: Peter Quill's mom had (as far as he remembered) always been a sweet, gentle and kindly soul. As such, he had grown up convinced that his father must have been, by way of cosmic balance, an asshole, and 100% a dick.
After all, Peter had to have inherited that particular character flaw from someone.
Making a family (ao3) - EaSnowPw tony/stephen T, 39k
Summary: "I'm not getting married again," Tony declared. "I don't want more pups anyway, so fuck that."
"First of all, you're healthy enough for pups," his father countered. "Secondly, you need to play the family game for the investors."
The second argument was more convincing.
"Ugh, fine. Let me just..."
"Nope. The last time I let you marry for love, look what happened."
OR
Apparently, an arranged marriage wasn't the worst thing ever.
OR
Tony and his pups try to make sense of their new alpha. Stephen is trying to make sense of his new life.
Male Order Bride (ao3) - faeleverte clint/phil E, 219k
Summary: Agent Coulson’s mission is simple: fly to Amsterdam; meet up with a fake mail order bride (a member of Dutch intelligence); fake a relationship; intercept stolen weapons plans; get home in one piece. But it’s the kind of operation where everything that can go wrong does, starting with a mixup in the introduction service paperwork.
Mercenary Hawkeye’s goal is clear: grab a temporary spouse; keep his real identity hidden; get himself and his partner back to the US; forget that whole failed mission ever happened. Unfortunately he gets more than he bargained for when his groom turns out to be perfect… and hiding a few secrets of his own.
Me and You (is who the future belongs to) (ao3) - melonbutterfly loki/tony T, 29k
Summary: Tony is in for quite a culture shock when he leaves for Jötunheimr to meet his soulmate for the first time, especially since what little he knows of the place is hearsay passed on through Æsir, who aren't exactly neutral on the subject. But he wouldn't be Tony Stark if he didn't roll with it.
One Reason Why (ao3) - NotEvenCloseToStraight peter/wade E, 149k
Summary: An Arranged Marriage brings Alpha!Prince Wade and Omega!Prince Peter together and neither are happy about it. Wade is obnoxious and Peter is stuck up and despite a fairly adorable accidental first meeting and instant attraction, they can hardly be in the same room without arguing.
Alpha! Wade is determined to win the bratty Omega over and tries with sarcasm and humor and enough one liners to make Peter scream.
Omega!Peter is brilliant, beautiful and too hurt from a past Alpha to try again. He doesn’t care about Wade’s scars, but if the Alpha doesn’t stop talking, Peter might just kick him out a window.
An unexpected moment forces them together and even Peter can no longer deny their bond. Even if he still isn’t sure he wants an Alpha, he can’t stay away, and every kiss and night spent together brings them closer to bonding. But outside forces want to tear them apart, and when tragedy strikes, Wade asks the Omega to bond so they can face it together but Peter still isn’t sure. Can Wade come up with One Reason Why Peter should be his?
Spoils (ao3) - Yen erik/t’challa E, 45k
Summary: Upon the realization of his imminent defeat, T'Challa could feel his body begin to change, preparing itself to be claimed by the winning alpha.
Teach Me How to Love You Right (ao3) - isabelbarret steve/bucky E, 93k
Summary: Steves spent his whole life wishing he'd be able to decide his own fate but when a foreign army invades and Steve finds himself getting sold into a marriage with a complete stranger that wish comes to an end. Steve can only hope that his life being Bucky's Barnes mate will be better then any other life he could have had.
The Loss of Little Threads (ao3) - infiniteeight clint/phil E, 12k
Summary: In the kingdom of Seveth, marrying anyone but your soulmate is unthinkable. With an offer of alliance on the table and his ability to bond fading, Phillip of House Coulson has been thinking a great deal.
Traded (ao3) - arianapeterson19 steve/tony T, 4k
Summary: Arranged marriages weren't exactly unheard of but Tony was fairly certain most of them weren't set up with the hopes of one party getting killed.
OR
The one where Howard uses Tony in his quest to steal from Wakanda.
Two-Point Perspective (ao3) - FestiveFerret steve/tony E, 109k
Summary: Dear omega,
Congratulations! You've been selected. Alpha #95847872 has been assigned as your pre-bondee. A group bonding ceremony will take place on the 14th, unless other arrangements have been made by your alpha or their family. A valid bonding license must be submitted to Omega Services within 45 days of this letter or all services will be cancelled and any transferable benefits will not be applied to your alpha's package.
If there is some reason why you cannot be bonded on this date, please apply for an extension by calling 1-800-555-6827 within 7 days of receiving this letter.
Sincerely, National Omega Services
Watch Them as They Fall (ao3) - mischiefgoddesscomplex darcy/loki M, 40k
Summary: When Loki discovers it's the All-Father's intentions to marry him off to an unfamiliar Jotun princess in the hopes of uniting the two kingdoms, he'll do anything in his power to stop it. Even if that means pulling off the greatest lie he's ever told - with the begrudging help of Darcy Lewis.
You Know Who I Am (ao3) - BuckyAboveEverything steve/tony T, 48k
Summary: Young Tony Stark is forced to marry Captain America.
It is either the best or worst thing to happen to him.
Spoiler: It’s for the best, mostly. :)

Charles Drew
Charles Richard Drew (June 3, 1904 – April 1, 1950) was an American surgeon and medical researcher. He researched in the field of blood transfusions, developing improved techniques for blood storage, and applied his expert knowledge to developing large-scale blood banks early in World War II. This allowed medics to save thousands of lives of the Allied forces. As the most prominent African American in the field, Drew protested against the practice of racial segregation in the donation of blood, as it lacked scientific foundation, and resigned his position with the American Red Cross, which maintained the policy until 1950.
Early life and education
Drew was born in 1904 into an African-American middle-class family in Washington, D.C. His father, Richard, was a carpet layer and his mother, Nora Burrell, trained as a teacher. Drew and three of his four younger siblings grew up in Washington's largely middle-class and interracial Foggy Bottom neighborhood. From 1920 until his marriage in 1939, Drew's permanent address was in Arlington County, Virginia, although he graduated from Washington's Dunbar High School in 1922 and usually resided elsewhere during that period of time.
Drew won an athletics scholarship to Amherst College in Massachusetts, from which he graduated in 1926. An outstanding athlete at Amherst, Drew also joined Omega Psi Phi fraternity as an off-campus member; Amherst fraternities did not admit blacks at that time. After college, Drew spent two years (1926–1928) as a professor of chemistry and biology, the first athletic director, and football coach at the historically black private Morgan College in Baltimore, Maryland, to earn the money to pay for medical school.
Drew attended medical school at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where he achieved membership in Alpha Omega Alpha, a scholastic honor society for medical students, ranked second in his graduating class of 127 students, and received the standard Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery degree awarded by the McGill University Faculty of Medicine in 1933.
Drew's first appointment as a faculty instructor was for pathology at Howard University from 1935 to 1936. He then joined Freedman's Hospital, a federally operated facility associated with Howard University, as an instructor in surgery and an assistant surgeon. In 1938, Drew began graduate work at Columbia University in New York City on the award of a two-year Rockefeller fellowship in surgery. He then began postgraduate work, earning his Doctor of Science in Surgery at Columbia University. He spent time doing research at Columbia's Presbyterian Hospital and gave a doctoral thesis, "Banked Blood," based on an exhaustive study of blood preservation techniques. He earned a Doctor of Science in Medicine degree in 1940, becoming the first African American to do so.
Blood for Britain
In late 1940, before the U.S. entered World War II and just after earning his doctorate, Drew was recruited by John Scudder to help set up and administer an early prototype program for blood storage and preservation. He was to collect, test, and transport large quantities of blood plasma for distribution in the United Kingdom. Drew went to New York City as the medical director of the United States' Blood for Britain project. The Blood for Britain project was a project to aid British soldiers and civilians by giving U.S. blood to the United Kingdom.
Drew started what would be later known as bloodmobiles, which were trucks containing refrigerators of stored blood; this allowed for greater mobility in terms of transportation as well as prospective donations.
Drew created a central location for the blood collection process where donors could go to give blood. He made sure all blood plasma was tested before it was shipped out. He ensured that only skilled personnel handled blood plasma to avoid the possibility of contamination. The Blood for Britain program operated successfully for five months, with total collections of almost 15,000 people donating blood, and with over 5,500 vials of blood plasma. As a result, the Blood Transfusion Betterment Association applauded Drew for his work.
American Red Cross Blood Bank
Out of Drew's work, he was appointed director of the first American Red Cross Blood Bank in February 1941. The blood bank being in charge of blood for use by the U.S. Army and Navy, he disagreed with the exclusion of the blood of African-Americans from plasma-supply networks. In 1942, Drew resigned from his posts after the armed forces ruled that the blood of African-Americans would be accepted but would have to be stored separately from that of whites.
Academic career
In 1941, Drew's distinction in his profession was recognized when he became the first African-American surgeon selected to serve as an examiner on the American Board of Surgery.
Drew had a lengthy research and teaching career, returning to Freedman's Hospital and Howard University as a surgeon and professor of medicine in 1942. He was awarded the Spingarn Medal by the NAACP in 1944 for his work on the British and American projects. He was given an honorary doctor of science degree, first by Virginia State College in 1945 then by Amherst in 1947.
Personal life
In 1939, Drew married Minnie Lenore Robbins, a professor of home economics at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, whom he had met earlier during that year. They had three daughters and a son. His daughter Charlene Drew Jarvis served on Council of the District of Columbia from 1979 to 2000, was the president of Southeastern University from 1996 until 2009 and was a president of the District of Columbia Chamber of Commerce.
Death
Beginning in 1939, Drew traveled to Tuskegee, Alabama to attend the annual free clinic at the John A. Andrew Memorial Hospital. For the 1950 Tuskegee clinic, Drew drove along with three other black physicians. Drew was driving around 8 a.m. on April 1. Still fatigued from spending the night before in the operating theater, he lost control of the vehicle. After careening into a field, the car somersaulted three times. The three other physicians suffered minor injuries. Drew was trapped with serious wounds; his foot had become wedged beneath the brake pedal. When reached by emergency technicians, he was in shock and barely alive due to severe leg injuries.
Drew was taken to Alamance General Hospital in Burlington, North Carolina. He was pronounced dead a half hour after he first received medical attention. Drew's funeral was held on April 5, 1950, at the Nineteenth Street Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.
Despite a popular myth to the contrary, once repeated on an episode ("Dear Dad... Three") of the hit TV series M*A*S*H, Drew's death was not the result of his having been refused a blood transfusion because of his skin color. This myth spread very quickly since during his time it was very common for blacks to be refused treatment because there were not enough "Negro beds" available or the nearest hospital only serviced whites. In truth, according to one of the passengers in Drew's car, John Ford, Drew's injuries were so severe that virtually nothing could have been done to save him. Ford added that a blood transfusion might have actually killed Drew sooner.
Legacy
In 1976, the National Park Service designated the Charles Richard Drew House in Arlington County, Virginia, as a National Historic Landmark in response to a nomination by the Afro-American Bicentennial Corporation.
In 1981, the United States Postal Service issued a 35¢ postage stamp in its Great Americans series to honor Drew.

As the first product in Bentley Mulliner’s new Coachbuilt portfolio, the new Bacalar affords its 12 customers even greater opportunity to express their personal tastes in the form of the ultimate open-air Grand Tourer. While work on the new car is paused until Bentley’s Crewe headquarters reopens, the process of developing the unique, bespoke specification of each example can begin.
Bentley Mulliner Bacalar is the most bespoke Bentley ever made
Six example specifications created by Bentley Design Team showcase possible range of customisation – but customer choice is limitless
Each of the 12 cars produced to be totally unique
Customers to co-create Bacalar with the Bentley Mulliner Team
‘Design your own Bacalar’ competition opens
Sharing not one exterior body panel with any other Bentley model, the Bacalar is a true statement of master craftsmanship, with ultra-bespoke interior finishes being limited only by the imagination of customers
The style of each of the 12 Bacalar examples will be uniquely specified in collaboration with individual customers and the Bentley Mulliner team. Never before seen paint options, exterior treatments, interior finishes and materials are the essence of what makes the Bacalar a genuine coach-built car.
All aspects of Bacalar have been exquisitely designed in such detail that it will require time for owners to uncover each and every detail that form a complete Bacalar.
To showcase a variety of possible themes and options, Bentley Mulliner has created six example Bacalar specifications, illustrating some of the characters and styles the Bacalar is able to represent.
Maria Mulder, Head of Colour and Trim at Bentley, comments:
“The six example specifications we have created each have their own personality and purpose, but what they share in common is that only Bacalar can reflect this level of personalisation and attention to detail.”
“Regardless of your personal style, whether it be to spec your Bacalar with a bold Yellow Flame exterior paint synthesised with rice husk ash, or a more subtle Moss Green that reflects the car’s heritage, or to develop your own artisan piping, or co-create a unique fabric blend, the Bacalar gives you these opportunities”.
A newly-developed colour pigment, synthetically manufactured with the use of rice husk ask to add a metallic quality, intensifies the drama, form and contours of the Bacalar’s hand-crafted exterior, which can be used to create an unlimited number of exterior paint colours.
Creating an individual artisan piping will be part of every Bacalar ownership experience. This piping can be designed and customised to feature unique patterns, colour combinations and personal embossed effects, such as a customer’s signature or special, individual customer motifs.
Co-creating a fully bespoke fabric blend using centuries-old methods in collaboration with a traditional British textile mill presents yet another unique opportunity to customise Bacalar’s interior finish.
Bacalar Clerkenwell
The Bacalar Clerkenwell
“The Clerkenwell” specification typifies the spirit of the Brooklands racetrack where early Bentleys competed, and encapsulates a modern, effortless style accentuated by British racing heritage. The name refers to the Central London borough of Clerkenwell, home to a collection of the city’s oldest architecture, as well as some of its finest creative minds.
Bacalar Clerkenwell Interior
Focusing on the classic contrast of dark green and browns, Moss Green exterior paint is paired with Cumbrian Green and Golden Oak hides, contrasted with stitching in Saddle thread and the use of Cheltenham Tweed. The veneer is a new concept – Honey Larch – providing a further contrast to the interior. Exterior brightware is in Dark Bronze Glass, carrying the colour theme out of the cabin and linking the interior and exterior palettes.
Bacalar Menlo
The Bacalar Menlo
Taking risks and pushing the limits of what’s possible with an attitude that will change the world encapsulates the spirit of “The Menlo” – named after Menlo Park, Palo Alto, California, where many of the greatest entrepreneurs gather at leading technology companies.
Bacalar Menlo Interior
The bold and unmistakable colour of Cobalt runs throughout The Menlo, defining the car’s exterior finish as well as its interior atmosphere. Contrasting the subtlety of a Beluga hide with accents of Cyber Yellow truly highlights the interior’s definition and surfaces. The ultra-modern textile of Anthracite Alcantara is complemented by a Piano Black veneer.
Bacalar Fulton
The Bacalar Fulton
An eye for detail discovers the extraordinary in all it sees, designed for those in the know and creating a more esoteric theme. Downtown Chicago’s Fulton River District provides inspiration for this specification.
Bacalar Fulton Interior
The deep and evocative exterior finish of Lacquer Red is exemplified by light, revealing all of the Bacalar’s true design in detail. 5,000 year old Open Pore Riverwood alongside Piano Black veneer embellishes the interior with a sense of history and depth, coupled with hides of perforated Mulliner Beluga and Hotspur accents. Gloss black brightware and Beluga Alcantara textile adds to the understated theme.
Bacalar Greenwich
The Bacalar Greenwich
Heritage style meets contemporary minimalism in a car inspired by bespoke tailoring and the English countryside – London’s Greenwich borough is therefore the natural association; ever-evolving, but never forgetting its roots.
Bacalar Greenwich Interior
The new and bespoke exterior paint of New Grey captures all that the Greenwich represents; classic yet evolving. Cricket Ball hide is the distinctive touch of British, flattered by a Grey Tweed textile. Open Poor Riverwood in parallel with High Gloss Riverwood once again contrasts the new with the old. Details of matt black brightware and Camel contrast thread finish off the interior theme.
Bacalar Brickell
The Bacalar Brickell
“The Brickell” refers to Miami’s financial district, defined by its high-rise buildings, luxury apartments, art galleries and boutique stores.
Bacalar Brickell Interior
The Brickell, therefore, is a brave statement of intent, most notable by its new concept Atom Silver paint contrasting with strong exterior and interior accents in concept Hyperactive. Brunel hide adds to the confidence of this car’s specification, alongside the exclusiveness of Open Pore Riverwood and Piano Black veneer. Grey Tweed textile adds a touch of class and sophistication.
Bacalar Randwick
The Bacalar Randwick (demonstration car)
This is a car handcrafted to inspire awe, provoke conversation and seek out like-minded company, which is why “The Randwick” was selected as Bentley’s demonstration car. The glimmering rays of sunshine found in Sydney’s glamorous Randwick suburb epitomise the car’s tone.
Bacalar Randwick Interior
Yellow Flame paint enlightens the car’s exterior, exemplified by Gloss Black highlights, showing off the Bacalar’s exterior in even greater detail. This theme continues through to the interior, where Beluga hide and Grey Tweed textile is contrasted by bright Khamun accents. Dark Bronze decorates bright ware with an exquisite and unique finish, never before seen on a Bentley. The classic combination of Open Pore Riverwood and Piano Black veneers complete the interior.

‘Design your own Bacalar’ competition
Bentley is also launching a design-your-own Bacalar competition via the @BentleyComms Twitter channel. Both adults and children are invited to download a blank template of both the Bacalar’s exterior and interior, which can be customised in any number of ways. The best designs sent back to @BentleyComms will be adjudicated by Bentley’s Design team, and featured and highlighted on the channel.
