have we done "tva loki at the start of the series and thor in the first movie" have the same general experience of being forced to change their ways by being physically de-powered (with the same 'realising the full extent of the shit they are in when a magical object fails to save them as it usually would' low point)?

tva loki's experience involves a much more hostile environment (jane didn't torture thor, just accidentally ran a van over him) that includes a threat of death generally lacking on thor's midgard trip, but they're the same general idea. maybe if they met they could bond over that. or something.

2020 Fic Year in Review

I was tagged by @notesoflore​ — thank you!!

Total number of completed stories: 41 that I actually completed this year. Of those, 27 are posted on AO3, and 14 are still sitting in various stages of editing. Do No Harm, Sleight of Hand, and The Real Asgardians of the Galaxy were all WIPs from 2019 that I finished this year. The Real Asgardians is only half posted on AO3, and my plan is to finish posting Will you be my festar-man? on the 31st.

Total word count: 738,986, but there’s still 3 days of writing left this year! I also wasn’t keeping very good track prior to May, so this is likely higher.

Fandoms written in: MCU, primarily Thor and Doctor Strange

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? Definitely more. Holy shit! I completed 41 fics this year?? That’s insane. I’m not sure I’ve ever written this much in my life.

What’s your own favorite story of the year? I...have to choose from 41 of them...so this is hard. I think I might have to go with Will you be my festar-man? Love and courtship in the New Asgardian court (or, How Loki Stopped Worrying and Proposed to Stephen Strange).

Did you take any writing risks this year? Probably Will you be my festar-man? Love and courtship in the New Asgardian court (or, How Loki Stopped Worrying and Proposed to Stephen Strange)! This fic is a straight-up comedy, and I don’t write comedies. I also thought it was gamble because it’s an established relationship fic when fandom as a whole prefers getting together fics. And I also wondered if it would get a poor reception because Loki is really the butt of most, if not all, of the comedy.

Honorable mention to A Full and Factual Account of Asgard, which is one of the most ambitious things I’ve ever written and has a lot of heavy themes in it.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year? I would like to finish my main MCU series, which, with A Full and Factual Account of Asgard finished, now moves into a phase with several shorter (hopefully under 20k) fics, before the last fic, The General Mess and Imprecision of Feeling, which is my official Loki/Strange slow burn fic (as opposed to lots of pining and UST, haha).

I also would maybe like to pick my NaNo 2020 project up at some point and finish it. I’m writing it as an AU but I’m also intending to try to get it professionally published by changing all the names.

Most popular story of the year? They Change Their Sky, Not Their Soul, Who Rush Across the Sea (I can’t believe I posted this this year? I actually wrote most of it in 2019)

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I mean...hm. Probably The Real Asgardians of the Galaxy? Gen Brodinsons road trip in space, with lots of Loki angst and brotherly moments. Plus action! I think there are a few things working against me. One, it’s the third fic in a series, two, it’s long, and three, the only tagged canon characters are Loki and Thor. In general I’m trying to come to terms with the fact that I’ll never get huge numbers, because I don’t have the big cast of Avengers (*cough* tony stark *cough*) in any of my fics.

Most fun story to write: Toss up between All I Want for Christmas (Is an Awkward Family Outing) and Will you be my festar-man? Love and courtship in the New Asgardian court (or, How Loki Stopped Worrying and Proposed to Stephen Strange). I frequently cackled as I was writing both of them.

Most unintentionally telling story: Honestly anything where Loki dwells on his self-loathing and how he means nothing to others is...me...uh...but I’m not sure if that’s unintentionally telling because a lot of the time I’m intentionally writing from experience to make it as raw as possible. Maybe A Full and Factual Account of Asgard? A lot of the major events of 2020 are sort of interwoven into it (not a pandemic though).

Biggest disappointment: That there’s no way I’m going to be able to write a fic for all seven days of Froststrange Week, haha. Technically that’s in 2021 but I was trying to get all the fics done before it starts on Jan 1st.

Biggest surprise: How much people like Will you be my festar-man? Love and courtship in the New Asgardian court (or, How Loki Stopped Worrying and Proposed to Stephen Strange)! I never expected it to get the response that it has, and it’s really made November and December a lot more bearable to hear from people who are following it.

This was supposed to be a headcanon which turned into a drabble then grew into a oneshot. This was actually meant to be a horny Thor fic when I sat down to write but Loki took over and we all know he does what he wants.
