Am I obsessed with Kisaki having a big sister? Yes.
Can you please, PLEASE do a fanfic about Kisaki having a big sister who's a big tease but also loves and protects him alot? If you don't write for Kisaki it's okay you can do the same but for takemichi or something 😚 thank you!
Ps: your blogs are amazing💞
I kin Kisaki...so why wouldn't I write him. LMAO. Anyways!! Here is what you asked and I hope you would enjoy thisssss! It's short but It has the Sister and Kisaki bond you are asking for <3
A menace to Tetta Kisaki (Tokyo Revengers)
Genre: Fluff, Headcanons
Pairings: Kisaki x FEM! Reader (Platonic)
TW: Tetta Kisaki (JK), Slight Spoilers.
Tetta despises his older sister, like he would try to kill her mutliple times but fails since his sister is also smart and an even better fighter than him.
Imagine, you were Tetta and your daily life while staying at your house is constant annoyance from your sibling??? Like can't he just plan Toman's Demise in PEACE??!
Despite him hating his older sister and trying to kill her, he would protect her and she does the same towards his little brother.
They have that dynamic where they hate each other but would eventually help each other's back.
"S/N...Can you please leave me alone...for like 30 minutes??" Tetta spoke as he frustratingly messes his hair.
You were poking his sides, arm and cheeks for the last 25 minutes because you were begging him to make you Ramen.
"Tettaaaa~ Cook me my Rameeeennnnnnn!~" You whined as you still continued to poke his cheeks, Tetta grabbed his pen and pointed at you. Before he could've stick it into your neck, you caught his hand twisting it; making him let go of the pen he was holding.
"Tetta...It isn't nice to try and stick a pen in your sister's neck, you know?" you spoke as you let go of his hand and layed on his bed.
"Cook your god damn Ramen by yourself, I'm busy!" He scowled at you, walking towards Tetta---you peeked on what he was working with. It was a plan on making his dreams and that was to become number one in the world of Gangsters.
You were not a fan of your brother's decision but if it's what he wants and is happy with, you have no say and would just support him.
Kisaki saw your shadow peeking, he quickly hid the papers that was plastered on his desk. You gave him a raised eyebrow.
"Can you just fucking leave?" He scowled again, sitting on the floor; you looked at your brother with a serious look, he was now the one with the raised eyebrows.
"Tetta, I don't care about your dreams of becoming a number one gang"
"H-how'd you---" You cut off Tetta with a glare. He wasn't scared of anyone that was a fact but it was rare for you to scold him, usually you would annoy him but this seems like a serious conversation.
"Let me finish..." You spoke, your brother nodded as he relaxed his body on his swivel chair.
"If you're gonna be the number one do you think a motivation like 'be number one' is good enough?? I thought you're smart??" You asked him, he glared at you.
"Oh yeah?! then what would you do?" He asked, You're serious face soften.
"If I were you I would dig deep into my desires...why am I doing this? why am I wasting my time for this? what is it I really want?" You continued.
"Then what do you want?" Tetta questioned you, you look at him and smile.
"I'm selling my intelligence so someday I can help you with your dreams!" You replied, He was about to say something but instead he shut his mouth.
He hated you, that was true but with moments like this he can't help but be thankful that he has a supportive sister like you. You never left him despite you hating the Idea because you know it might end to something worse.
"I want to be like Mikey but even better...I want to be someone's Hero..." Tetta muttered as he look at the ground, clenching his fist. You let out a deep sigh.
"Make sure you make that dream come true then..." You replied.
You stood up from were you were sitted and started heading out to the door to leave your little brother alone, to give him space about his planning. Tetta just looked at you but before you even left you turned around once more.
"Hey little bro..." You called out to Tetta which he looked you way once more.
"What?" He questioned, you gave him a soft smile.
"Don't do anything to stupid, do you understand? Stupidty can lead to the end of everything..." Tetta just looked at you then smirked.
"I hate Idiots and Stupidity...you should know that" He replied, you just chuckled and completely left your brother to go make your Ramen that you're brother declined to cook for you.

Can I please ask some
Loki x starksis!reader where they are soulmates(rarely these days) and from the age of 18(she got 18 in 2008 right when bro got missing) you get dreams and nightmares of you soulmate
Loki is a thousand and something so he will get the dreams when reader got 18 (because idk how to make this work😃)
And in 2012 they kind of already know each other so reader is trying to help loki get his mind back together and not take over the world bu kinda fails and still has to fight,so she begs thor to let her go to asgard and help him there even tho he is in prison (odin and frigga agree because ye "my son")
Can you please make it headcanons?🤍
And I'm sorry for making it this long😅🤍
Being soulmates with Loki:
If it wasn’t enough that your brother went missing you were seeing weird dreams about who you figured is your soulmate
They were weird because the place in your dreams looked so different and he was hesitant to get near you
"What’s your name!?" You’ll run after him
They kept popping up until your brother was back and then they kept getting less frequent
He kept his distance from you in those dreams and it broke your heart
Didn’t your soulmate want you?
But you didn’t give up and eventually he came around
"It’s Loki…"
"I’m y/n, finally you’re talking to me"
Though that happy moment didn’t last long
After that you saw nightmares of him in depression, like sadness was consuming him and you couldn’t do anything
It kept on until someday it they cut off
"Tony I don’t know what’s happening, I can’t see him again and I’m worried"
"I’m sure he’s fine, if someone ever happens to him you’ll get a sign"
Oh that sign was coming alright
The New York attack came and you felt your world split apart
You thought it was a nightmare but soon realized that it was real and you needed to do something
"He’s my soulmate Tony please let me help!"
"Are you crazy! He threw me from the highest floor in the building!"
You didn’t listen to your brother’s argument and took matters into your own hands
You used your suit he made for emergencies and tried to reach Loki
But things didn’t go as planned
It was like he got triggered when he saw and next thing you knew you were crashing against the hard concrete
Eventually the avengers did stop him and after a harsh scolding from tony you met with Thor
You practically begged him to let you go to Asgard and after many tries he decided it to leave the decision to his parents
Odin and frigga approved
The first thing you did when you arrived was to ask to be guided to his prison room
"Loki…" you said, fully heartbroken at his miserable looking state
"Go away…I don’t deserve a soulmate after all of that"
You didn’t Loki that well but you were willing to do even if it meant sharing a prison sell with him
There was many pushes and screaming towards you but it was fine
His eyes showed sadness and you weren’t going to give up on him
"You’re wasting your time mortal"
"No I’m not, you’re my soulmate and I’m ready to risk everything for you"
Loki had layers on layers hiding his complete true self
But you were ready to help him open up to you
"Do you hate being my soulmate?" He’ll ask
"Never."

Not Enough - part 1.
Smut <3 Fluff <3 Angst (lots of angst) <3 sex, foreplay, ass, outdoor reader x Johnny pairing. Mentions of johnten pairing.
Not Enough - part 1 - the first part of the JohnTenReader saga.
Wordcount - 2.5k.
You chose to study at NCIT because you had heard that there were great opportunities in technology, and you knew coding was your strongest skill when you were younger. A few years into your time there, you realised that, whilst you were alright at computers and tech - especially for a girl, as some of the younger guys would frequently point out - you were nothing on the natural talent that seemed to have been bestowed upon most of the guys here. In fact, you’re pretty sure you only got a place on your course for some sort of diversity purpose, and the fraternity lifestyle you had ended up being dragged into certainly wasn’t helping your case. Going into your final year, it’s your last summer - you’ve been contemplating leaving the frat house - and the chaos that came with it - once the new semester started.
“Hyung, we’re leaving!” yelled Ten down to the rest of the house, dragging Yangyang out of the door with him. You knew he was yelling goodbye to his closest “friend” in the house, John Suh, and didn’t actually care about the rest of the frat boys hearing him. Ten just wanted to make John jealous because he was taking Yangyang out to one of the more inclusive bars in Itaewon. He initially planned on going out with Johnny tonight, just the two of them. But Johnny wasn’t really down for it today - he had thought he was supposed to be going out to a restaurant with just him and Ten, and when Ten suggested Itaewon John just presumed that it meant everybody else was invited out, too. These two were always getting into these complicated misunderstandings in their entangled feelings, and you’re pretty used to dealing with it by now. But actually, Ten was just as annoyed that Johnny wasn’t out with him tonight. He loves Yangyang, his closest Dongsaeng, but he wanted to spend tonight with Johnny. This whole situation was just a misunderstanding, but neither Johnny nor Ten realised this. “Bye guys!!” yelled Yangyang, excited for this rare occasion that he got to spend with Ten, now that Ten and Johnny were both all-but-dropped out of NCIT.
Once Yangyang and Ten had left, the house was quiet. The others were mostly working on assignments and projects, as they tend to do in the late evenings. Doyoung and Taeyong were probably upstairs bickering about the most efficient way of writing a code, Yuta almost certainly glued to his screen typing out a written assignment - the only one of the group also studying a language alongside computer science. Haechan, Jaemin and Mark were probably out at the student union Dream bar. That left just the two of you - you and John Suh - alone in the frat house.
“What’s up, Johnny?” you ask, putting on a slightly dramatic pout to try to invoke some sort of response from your most-likely-stoned-over best friend and boyfriend. “Nothing, y/n, just don’t ask” replied Johnny, sort of bluntly which took you by surprise. You wait in silence for a moment. “Except, look, I did my hair and makeup to go out with Ten and he just goes and turns our date into a party night and then I don’t even end up going and -” Johnny is interrupted.
“Date??”.
You both shoot your heads around, and sat in the corner of the living room, slumped against a beanbag in a hoodie that disguised any level of his presence, was Jae.
“Yeah bro, you know, was supposed to just be us guys tonight nothing out of the ordinary I jus-”. Jae interrupted again.
“John, you know how often i’m lurking in here and nobody notices me? You don’t need to cover this shit up with me”.
You and Johnny look at each other, and back at Jae. You wonder how much he knows. To the others, you and Johnny were basically a married couple, and Ten was your best friend. What they didn’t know was that, of everybody in the house, the most involved pair was certainly Johnny and Ten, and you didn’t mind that. You were best friends with both of them, and romantically involved with Johnny, but nothing made you happier than knowing how happy Ten and John - the two polar-opposite NCIT dropouts - were when they were together.
“Y/n, come outside with me a second?” asked Johnny, seeming genuinely stressed and upset.
Stood on the roof of the frat house, lined with bottles and scattered with cigarette ashes and joint ends, Johnny opens up to you.
“Y/n, Ten was so mad that I’m staying with you tonight, but I was so mad that he went out with Yangyang. There’s some shit going on here and I don’t feel comfortable and, you know, I really like you y/n but it seems - agh, whatever, that’s not true” - Johnny rests his hand against your cheek and looks down at you. “Y/n, I like you both, but its so hard keeping this shit with Ten a secret and shit like this always happens and y/n I’m so sick of coming to you being stressed and -”.
You raise your hand to Johnny’s cheek too, and brush his hair behind his ear.
“John, you’re so beautiful, you’re so fun. You’re the best friend - and boyfriend - that I could ask for”. He places a kiss on your forehead, and you look at him with wondering eyes, gazing into his dark irises and losing yourself for just a second, stood there under the night sky feeling safe in the arms of Johnny Suh.
What Johnny wanted to tell you, you know, is that he can’t really handle dating both of you anymore. But the thing is - you know that, and you understand that. Right now, though, you don’t want to accept that. You just want your best friends. Johnny seems anxious, and he mutters something you don’t quite hear, although you know for sure you heard an “I love you” slip from his soft, gentle lips. But Johnny isn’t one for romance - not for more than a few minutes. His vulnerable side is only ever present for you and Ten, and it’s always suddenly replaced with his intense energy and both caring, yet intimidating, control.
You didn’t realise John’s hand had moved to the band of your panties, and he had been playing with the lace for a while now. You tune in as you feel his passionate and dominating lips crash down on yours, pulling you in tightly and resting his palm across the small of your back. He drags his sharp, manicured nails across the line of your underwear, shocking you compared to the softness of the hands that were holding you close and tight. You’re feeling vulnerable and lost, knowing that you’re so close to having to let go of the man you love the most, and all you want to do is feel close to him. To submit yourself to him, and to be under his control and to feel his passion and his love, is all that can comfort you right now. Johnny feels the same - you both need eachother.
“Y/n, are you okay with this here?” Johnny asks you. The rooftop is pretty secluded - nobody was around and it was very unlikely anybody would appear up here at this time. It’s not necessarily the most comfortable of places, but the slight risk of being outside, practically in public, sort of turns you on even more, and you can tell Johnny is desperate. “Mhm, please Johnny, just have me” you whisper breathlessly, looking at the ground and avoiding eye contact with Johnny out of shame for how desperate you are for his touch. “Look at me, y/n,” Johnny commands. You look up at him, and he crashes back onto you, moving his hand back under your pants and roughly taking hold of your thigh as he holds the back of your neck with his other hand. You can feel how much he needs you, and you need him.
“So wet, y/n. So needy and yet so patient for me. Such a good kitten”. You shift under him as he finds your clit, gently feeling for where he knows he will get the strongest reaction from you. He’s right - you’re dripping for him. You’re just imagining him taking you against this wall, pressed up against the cold, rough bricks as you support yourself with the pipes running alongside the building. You already need him inside you, but he’s just playing with you - teasing your folds carefully and attentively, occasionally pausing to place kisses on your neck, breathing deeply onto your neck, his breath against your ear making you shudder. Each delicate kiss is followed by the movement of his fingers as he edges closer towards being inside of you, teasing you strongly enough to encourage you to play games with him in return.
You shift your stance to allow Johnny to grind himself against you, and you ensure your thighs place a decent pressure against the bulge in Johnny’s joggers. Johnny moans in pleasure and annoyance as you move against him, and - possibly to stop you from edging him closer to his own orgasm - he pushes his fingers deep inside you, causing you to draw in a sharp breath. He stays there, and looks at you with deep and wanting eyes. You return the action by grinding up against his bulge, which also moves his fingers deeper into you. Johnny takes this opportunity to curl them up, hitting your spot and letting out a mischievous “mhmm” as he does.
“Y/n, are you playing with me? You can’t win, you know that” Johnny announces playfully, with a tone of seriousness that reminds you who is in charge. Johnny rhythmically curls his fingers towards your spot, his thumb playing carefully with your clit, driving the little moans to slip out from between your lips, the sound landing in between the two of you and filling the atmosphere with a sense of vulnerable pleasure.
“Johnny, please, just fuck me here” you beg, the words tumbling from your mouth. Johnny’s eyes darken and he takes on his dominant tone once again. “Y/n, you’re so pathetic, look at you falling apart under my fingers”. He continues to edge you closer, grabbing your ass hard with his other hand, pressing your face into his chest and leaving you in blackness, lost in the pleasure and your quickening breaths as he curls his fingers over and over. You can feel how his other hand keeps you steady but, at the same time, he is ensuring that your leg continues to slightly ride against his bulge. Johnny needs you - his y/n, who wants him more than anybody else has ever wanted him. But he still feels hurt, and Ten crosses his mind again for a split second, frustrating him enough to pull out of you and flip you around, pushing you against the walls so he has full access to your ass. You take a moment to orientate yourself, looking over your shoulder to see Johnny stood there, his hair now sweaty and the veins in his arms pulsing. He looks so naturally beautiful, looking down at you with lustful eyes. You can tell from his expression that he’s feeling distracted and frustrated, and you don’t care. You just want him to take out his feelings on you. You want to feel vulnerable for him. Johnny feels your ass, pressing his thumb against your entrance. He bends over you and wraps his arms around your stomach, stroking your nipple for just a second before stopping, and simply holding you. With his head resting on your shoulder, he tells you “I do love you, y/n. I do”. You both stop there for a moment, heartbeats pounding in unison. Johnny is still holding himself, preparing to take you. “Do I get to come then, Mr Suh?” you ask playfully. And with that question, Johnny snaps back into his dominant position, guiding himself carefully into your pussy whilst still gently teasing your ass. He’s always gentle with you to ease you in, but you’re quite used to his size now so you push yourself back onto him. This catches him by surprise, clearly, as he lets out a tense moan and mutters “fuck you, y/n”. That was all he needed to know that he could take you harder, so he grabs your hips and fucks you, and you both moan together each time he pushes all the way into you.
You gasp for air, feeling johnny is now also moving his hand hard against your clit and driving you further and deeper into a blissful, well-deserved orgasm. You can feel the warmth of his precum, the extra lubrication heightening your senses as he doesn’t stop fucking you. “Fuck, y/n, I’m going to c- fuck, y/n, fuck” Johnny loses control of his words as he comes inside you, the feeling driving you to do the same, as your knees shake and you grasp onto the metal pipe that is stabilising your position. Johnny pulls out of you, and for a second stops to once again hold himself against you, feeling your hearts once again. But Johnny knows he doesn’t want to let you down, and he knows you haven’t finished yet. Within moments of his own orgasm, Johnny’s own lips hit your throbbing and sensitive clit, lapping up the sweet honey that you’re creating, and passionately licking and kissing around your clit. Your breath once again quickens as you feel yourself about to come - and John teases your ass again, just enough to send you over the edge. “Fuck, Johnny, there - yes, please Johnny”. “Sweet kitten, come for me” Johnny commands, and you come undone over his face, knees collapsing as your eyes roll back in bliss. He places steady kisses on your clit, your thighs, and up towards your nipples. He kisses your neck, past your ears, and finally places a kiss on your forehead. Right back where you started, you stand in the comfort of Johnny’s arms, under the stars.
You both stand there for a minute, breathless and warm, Johnny keeping you steady as your orgasm continues to pulsate gently through you. A tear rolls down your cheek as you think about how this can’t last for much longer - you know things are going to end one day. But you don’t want to lose a single part of Johnny, not as your boyfriend and especially not as your friend. You love him, and he loves you too.
“Y/n, shall we head back inside?” Johnny asks you, feeling you shivering from the cold nighttime air. His breath is warm, and his voice gentle and steady. “We should probably get some sleep”, he tells you. You shrug and hold him closer, but Johnny turns you around to head back inside. And when he does, standing there, right behind you and looking at the floor with a tear trailing down his cheek, is Ten.
Ah, fuck.

"Hongjoong, I think you should look at this."
Eden pulled up the article on his phone and handed it to Hongjoong. His eyes shot up when he read the header and quickly scrolled through the page, confusion and worry written all over his face.
"But...but I don't understand why would they say I'm dating?" He couldn't believe what he was seeing.
He started panicking when he immediately thought about you. How would you react to this? Would you believe it? Were you going to get mad at him? He quickly got his own phone and began calling for you, but you didn't answer, even after he tried 3 more times.
"Hongjoong, take the day off and go see Y/N. Management will take care of the false article." Eden assured him.
Hongjoong rushed out of there and sped over to your place, but not before stopping at a nearby shop to buy you some teddy bears just in case.
You were barely inside your home for 15 seconds after a tiring schedule, when you heard some frantic knocking on the door. You groaned but opened the door, surprised to find Hongjoong standing there with a huge and small teddy bear.
"I have come bearrring gifts for my one and only love."
You giggled at his lame joke but allowed him to step inside. After putting the gifts down, Hongjoong pulled you close and declared:
"I swear by all things holy and unholy that I love you and only you and that article is a lie. You're the only person I'm dating and the only one I want to date and be with, and I get if you don't believe me but-"
He was speaking so fast you could hardly understand him. Leaning in, you shut him up with a kiss, making him stunned.
"So...you're not mad?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Hongjoong, I've been busy filming for a new web drama that I haven't even checked my phone since last night." You explained.
Hongjoong sighed in relief. You chuckled and pecked his lips again.
"Now do you mind explaining to me what made you buy me some of Yunho's relatives and declare your unending love for me?"

"Seonghwa! Seonghwa wait up!"
You chased after him, as you had been doing all day. He had been rejecting your calls, left you on read and when you went over to the dorms, Yeosang let you know that he had went out to get air and cool off because he was pretty upset about the news article saying how you were supposedly dating someone else.
So there you were, waving over at him to catch his attention. As soon as he saw you though, he clenched his teeth and began walking away.
"Park Seonghwa! Stop right there! I need to talk to you!" You demanded.
Stopping in his tracks, he turned around to look at you, not bothering to hide his anger.
"Talk to me about what? That you've moved on? Found somebody else?"
His words hurt you. You couldn't believe that he'd actually say that.
"It's all a lie! How could you possibly believe any of it is true?!" You exclaimed in indignation.
"It seems pretty believable if you ask me." He crossed his arms.
You sighed and walked closer to him.
"Seonghwa....you don't mean that...you know I love you and you know you're the only one I want....please don't-"
You tried to hold him but he pushed your hands away.
"Stop Y/N. Go back to your dorm before anyone sees us. Wouldn't want a cheating scandal to affect your career right?"
That was the final straw for you. The man you loved was actually believing what the rest of the world was, when he was supposed to know you.
"You know what? Fine......it's clear to me that you don't know me if you're willing to believe any dirt, filth and lie the media wants to spread. And if you don't know me....then obviously you never loved me.."
You turned away, determined to walk away from him forever. You took only 6 steps before you felt strong arms engulf you in a tight and desperate embrace. You knew it was Seonghwa, blindfolded you could always tell it was his touch. You heard him sob softly from behind you.
"I do love you......and I do know you......I'm just terrified of losing you......"

"Hyung! Hyung! Wake up!"
Yunho shuffled on his bed, pulling the pillow to cover his face.
"Jongho, it's our day off. Go back to sleep, still early." He mumbled as he started to slip back into his dream.
"Hyung! You gotta wake up! Dispatch released an article about you!"
Yunho groaned. "So?"
His carefree attitude made Jongho puzzled. Almost as if he expected it.
"You mean to tell me you're....cheating on Y/N?"
Yunho shot up when the maknae insinuated that.
"What the hell are you talking about Jongho?! I would never cheat on them!"
Jongho explained how he stumbled across the article and even sent him the link. Yunho was shocked, he was expecting them to release news that you two were dating, but instead, they wrongly put out that he was dating someone else.
"What the- why would they?-"
Suddenly Yunho got very quiet and serious.
"Oh my god! Y/N!"
Yunho jumped out of bed, pulling out the first set of clothes he could find and dressed himself as fast as he could, not caring to even check his appearance on the mirror, he just knew he had to go see you before you got the wrong idea.
"Yunho? What happened to you?" You asked when you took in his disheveled appearance.
He quickly began rambling about how it was all fake and that he'd never ever cheat on you or even think about it. You smiled softly at your boyfriend.
"Yunho, I know you and I believe you. I saw the article but didn't believe it. You're the most loyal and caring boyfriend I've had and I know you love me. And I love you too."
You tiptoed and pecked his lips, effectively calming him down.
"Now....wanna freshen up in my bathroom? For goodness sake, you still have a drool line on your cheek."
❥𝓚𝓪𝓷𝓰 𝓨𝓮𝓸𝓼𝓪𝓷𝓰
Yeosang stared at the screen, his eyes hardly blinking as he scanned each word and letter, his heart dropping as he reached the end of the article. He sighed softly and tossed his phone on the dresser. Curling up into fetus position, he closed his eyes as all thoughts began running through his head.
Was it true? Were you seeing someone else behind his back? Was it his fault? Did you not love him anymore?
Yeosang held his hands over his ears and shut his eyes, not wanting to think, feel anymore. He didn't realize when he started crying nor when he drifted off to sleep. He simply was awoken by a very familiar and warm touch on his hand, fingers interlacing in his.
Opening his eyes, he was met by your gaze. Your eyes were still puffy from crying hours earlier. You were so scared of Yeosang thinking it was true and leave you. Yeosang could see the fear in your eyes. The moment he saw you, he knew it could never be true. He could see the sincerity and love in your eyes.
Yeosang sat up and immediately pulled you close to him.
"I know it's not true." He assured you.
You began sobbing once again, burying your face on his shirt. Yeosang only pulled back when you calmed down enough. He kissed your forehead.
"I love you. You know that right?"
You nodded immediately.
"Yes......and you know I love you too?"
Yeosang smiled at you.
"I know. I'll always know."
He pulled you on top of him, his hands wrapping around your waist, his lips quickly searched for yours, capturing them in a long and loving kiss.

San didn't think the other idol would retaliate so harshly after he rejected her, but he underestimated her. He woke up a week later to a news article stating that they were dating and that she and her company confirmed it as well. San was outraged and offended.
"The fuck makes her think I want her ass when I already got the most beautiful person by my side?" San shook his head as he scrolled through her page.
"Speaking of said beautiful person, have you talked to Y/N about it?" Seonghwa reminded him.
"It's fine bro. On my my way to talk to them right now." He shrugged his shoulders, looking so confident.
But as soon as he saw you, he was on his knees instantly, hands clasped together.
"Oh my God! Please don't break up with me! I swear that bitch is lying! I only want you, I only love you, oh please please believe me!" He begged you, rather dramatically.
You frantically made him get up and ushered him inside your house.
"Don't be so loud! People will hear you and find out we're dating." You told him.
San looked at you, pouty lips and scrunched eyes.
"Maybe we should tell people we are dating. So stuff like this doesn't happen."
You sighed. "San I've told you, I don't think it's a good idea to tell the public about us. Fans might not like it."
"They might.....but who cares? I want to be able to take you out on dates without having to hide. I want to kiss you in front of the whole world."
He began leaning in to kiss you then, but you placed a hand over your lips.
"And you will one day Sannie, but not now. Right now you have a bigger problem to fix."
San nodded.
"I know, but don't worry love. I'll make sure the company puts out a statement denying everything and expose her for being psychotic."
You rolled your eyes at how dramatic he was and he could tell.
"Yes I know, I'm very extra, but even with my extraness, I won you over and now your mine."
He chuckled as he brought your faces closer, rubbing his nose against yours affectionately.

"Whoah! Did you guys see the news?"
Wooyoung couldn't help himself as he quickly sent the link to the other members.
"Seriously? They're dating?" Yunho asked in disbelief.
"God dammit! And I was thinking of asking them out soon." San huffed rather disappointed.
Just then, Mingi walked into the kitchen, where all the members were already sitting on the table, eating their breakfast.
"What's up guys?" Mingi greeted them.
"L/N Y/N is apparently dating one of the members of that new rookie group that debuted." Wooyoung announced.
Mingi stopped pouring his orange juice, puzzled as to why they'd say that.
"Yeah dispatch just released the article." Hongjoong showed his phone screen.
"It's not true." Mingi stated firmly.
"What makes you so sure about it?" Yeosang asked.
"Because I'm dating Y/N."
All of the members stared at him in shock. San bursted out laughing.
"No you're not!" He teased him.
Mingi didn't laugh though. "I'm serious. We've been dating for 3 months now, we just didn't tell our group."
"Are you fucking serious Mingi? You kept a secret from me, your best friend?!" Yunho exclaimed with indignation.
Hongjoong calmed down a chaos that ensued after that, while Mingi went over to his room to video call you and ask what was going on.
"My company is already filing a lawsuit for spreading false news and defamation." You told him.
"So.....you're not dating anyone?" He asked you, looking intently at the camera.
You giggled.
"Don't be dopey. Of course I'm dating someone...."
You blew a kiss in his direction, making him blush and giggle shyly.
"As long as it's false news and not them outing us. I'm so glad our relationship is still secret."
Mingi's smile dropped when you said that. He began chuckling nervously.
"Haha....yeah......about that..."

Wooyoung crossed his arms in front of you.
"Let me get this straight. Even after I confessed my love for you last week, finally working up the courage to tell you the L word after 6 months of dating............
"You're actually believing some news article that says I'm dating someone that's not you?!"
You held up your hands in an effort to calm your boyfriend down.
"Wooyoung I didn't say I believed it, I just wanted to ask you about it because-"
"Because you doubt my love and actually think I'm a cheater and a fuckboy. I see how it is." He interrupted you before proceeding to walk away from you.
You groaned as you followed behind him.
"Stop putting words in my mouth Wooyoung." You told him.
"Stop thinking I would actually be unloyal to you! When have I ever given you reason to believe me unfaithful?" He was practically screaming at this point.
He was just hurt and upset that you'd think him capable of cheating or playing with you, although that wasn't the case. You just wanted to know if it really was him on the picture, since it was pure speculation and the picture was blurry. But Wooyoung got all defensive and started denying anything and everything.
Right then, San waltzed in the room. Making a tiny spin, he looked at you two.
"I got good news for you lovebirds! Dispatch just released a follow up statement that clarifies, and I quote."
San cleared his throat before quoting:
"Update on the last article: it has come to our attention that the male idol in question was not Ateez' Wooyoung."
"Aha! You see?! I'm innocent! I was framed!" He gestured to himself as he looked at you with indignation.
"It was actually BTS' Jimin." San finished.
"BTS SUNBAENIM?!" Wooyoung screeched.
❥𝓒𝓱𝓸𝓲 𝓙𝓸𝓷𝓰𝓱𝓸
Jongho was definitely hurt when he read the article. You were the first person he dated and he was already insecure as it was, but this just made his heart plummet down to the ground. He shakily picked up his phone, hesitating and wondering if he should call you. What if it was true? He didn't want to find out.
"Hello?" You picked up.
"H-hi...." Jongho said, voice trembling and whispering softly.
"You saw it didn't you?"
Jongho nodded, unable to say anything. His silence answered your question. You expected him to be uneasy about it.
"Jongho, my love......I want you to know right now that it's false." You stated.
"F-false?" He could hardly believe it.
"Yes love. Don't you know how much I love you baby boy?"
He was glad you weren't there to witness how he melted at your words nor see the blush that spread across his cheeks.
"I love you too." He admitted.
"I'll be there soon."
You went over to his dorm, where a very angry mob of WooSanGi cornered you, demanding an explanation.
"Are you playing with our baby?" San interrogated you.
"Is the article true?" Wooyoung joined in.
"If you hurt him, we'll hurt you!" Mingi declared.
Right at that moment, Jongho walked out.
"Hyung! Back away from them."
Jongho grabbed your arm and placed you behind him before turning back to the older members.
"If you dumbasses are done harassing my s/o, let us tell you it's false news." Jongho pulled you against him, arm wrapping protectively around your waist.
The trio looked at one another and immediately felt ashamed and embarrased about the scene they just caused.
"Told you fools they'll handle it by themselves."
Yeosang's voice startled them all.
"Do you not have anything better to do than sneak up on people?" Jongho asked him.
Yeosang shrugged. "It's free entertainment."

Chapter 9
I know, I wait almost 4 days and now you gotta go through this bullshit. I can already hear your cries of anguish and suffering.
I love it so much. MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
That being said I promise regular chapters for the rest of the week! Okay I don't promise but I promise to do my best.
Note: Alright it's a fanfic people, alternate universes and all that. So you know what we're saying that all the Carisi sisters are younger, and Sonny was the big bro. Kay? I can't deal with all the continuity stuff.

Sonny was watching TV with Amanda when his phone went off. He paused the movie and answered the phone:
“Barba it’s kinda late--”
“What's wrong with your cousin?” he flatly said.
“Excuse me?” Sonny asked. “What kind of question is that?”
“Just answer the question, Carisi,” Barba insisted.
“Well it's a loaded question, Barba.” Sonny replied.
“Okay then just answer me this,” Barba sighed. “Why did I come back to my apartment to find her halfway through my once full bottle of vodka and pouting on the couch. Oh, after she had gone through all of my things of course,”
“Aw shit,” Sonny muttered under his breath. “That's kind of on me, Barba,”
“One second babe,” He muttered to Amanda, while he got up and went into his kitchen.
“Babe?” Barba asked.
“It’s just Rollins,” Sonny dismissed it.
“So you have feelings for me, but you’re fucking Rollins?” He asked in a snarky tone.
“What, are you jealous or somethin’ Barba?” Sonny smirked.
“No, don’t be stupid,” Rafael rolled his eyes. “Why is it on you?” He changed the subject.
“I should have never filled her head with doubts and suspicions and then sent her back to your place; when I should have known that you would keep a full bar in your apartment,” Sonny sighed as he ran his hands through his hair.
“Well of course I would keep a stocked bar in my apartment Sonny, I entertain people and I'm a grown man,” Rafael scoffed.
“Yeah, again it's on me,” Sonny repeated.
“Okay so what is wrong with your cousin?” Rafael asked.
“I think that pretty much answers it, don't you think?” Sonny asked in a “duh” tone.
“... I see,” Rafael glanced at his bedroom door wearily.
“Where is she now? Did you send her away? Please tell me you didn't send her away,” Sonny begged.
“No I didn't send her away, she's sleeping it off in my bedroom,” He got up and walked to his bedroom door. “I didn't want to just kick her out because she was upset. I'm not that big of a dick,” He whispered as he watched you sleep. You looked so calm and peaceful, that’s the girl he remembered.
“ You know, this should probably be better explained in person,” Sonny walked back into his living room where Amanda glanced over at him. He motioned for her to get her stuff together.
“Can I come over?”
“Yeah okay, not like I have anything else to do,'' he rolled his eyes as he shut his bedroom door and walked back to his living room.
--------------.
Sonny showed up to Rafael's apartment with a loaded head and a semi heavy conscience. He knocked on the door and Rafael let him inside.
“Okay so what kind of long story is this,” Rafael asked while he poured himself a glass of scotch. He noticed Sonny giving him a weird look.
“What? It's not like she's in here now,” he rolled his eyes.
“True,” He nodded. “Do you have beer?”
“Yes, dark or light?” Rafael made a disgusted face while he asked. He couldn't stand the taste of beer but he always had it on him just in case he had barbarians over such as Sonny.
“Shiner Bock, if you have it,” Sonny requested. Rafael nodded as he went into his party fridge’ and handed him one before sitting on the couch across from him.
“Alright so where do I start?” Sonny thought out loud.
“Well I guess first of all I wanted to say I don’t wanna say I told you so, but this is exactly why I didn't want you and Y/N to get involved in the first place. It had nothing to do with my feelings for you. It’s because I know that you tend to keep relationships with guys and girls chill and casual, but Y/N is a special case and special to me,”
“Yeah.. I wish you had expressed that before,” Rafael groaned.
Well what was I supposed to say in front of her, Barba? ‘Oh hey by the way, you probably shouldn't get involved with my trainwreck of a cousin? Sonny asked defensively.
“Maybe? I don’t know…” Rafael sighed as he put his head in his hands.
“Look, Rafael,” Sonny put a hand on his shoulder. “It’s not like she’s some kinda degenerate junkie,”
“Oh well, that’s great--” He started to roll his eyes.
“I’m serious Rafael!” He pounded the table.
“Okay okay, I’m sorry Sonny,” He finally used his first name, trying to be as soft with him as possible. He could see how much you meant to him, and it was really endearing. “Go ahead,”
“Alright,” Sonny sighed, ready to tell your life story. You would probably kill him later for it, but there was no hiding your...issues now, he might as well get the whole context.
“Well, first of all-- her dad died before she was born, overdose,” He began. “Then she was stuck with her junkie mother, my auntie. Who by the way at this point, nobody had heard from in years,” He took a sip of beer.
“So anyways,” He began again. “One day, she showed up at my mom’s doorstep with Y/N, and told her that she can’t take care of Y/N, or that she didn’t want to,” He sighed. “She was three years old by then, I don’t even wanna think about what happened before then,”
“Jesus…” Rafael muttered.
“I was eight years old at the time, my sisters were even younger. My mom and dad had enough on their plate with just us. So, I kinda took her under my wing,” He went on.
“We became so close, she wanted to go by “Sunny” just so she could be like me. I told her it would be confusing for the two of us, so I called her Sunshine, Sunny for short. That way if I’m calling her sunny, then obviously it’s not myself,” He chuckled. To this day, he still called you Sunshine.
“But as she grew up, she just...kinda had a rough go. She didn’t really interact with kids her own age, she was really defensive and untrusting with anybody but me. Not even my parents. And then we got the call that her mother died, and it ripped me up inside to see her body at the funeral. It was so fucked up, she was so fucked up. That’s why I-- I think something really bad happened to her when she was with her mother, Rafael. Like-- really, bad.
“Fuck..." Rafael muttered while glancing at his bedroom door. He didn't want to imagine what you had been through at such a young age. He wanted to run in his room right now and just hold you, but he kept his composure.
“So then I went off to college when she was ten years old, just about to start junior high. She begged me to stay, but I told her she had a good family and that my parents and sisters loved her as much as I did, and to stay out of trouble. But...kids are cruel. They made her harder, and harder. Without me there to be her-- I dunno, her guiding light or her-- protector, she just kinda fell into a bad crowd by the time high school rolled around,” He sighed while taking another swig of beer.
“...Right,” Rafael nodded.
“So when i came home from school my mom told me she was going to kick Sunny out. I asked her why, and she went on and on about how she had gotten in with these local girls who were like, I dunno some kinda girl gang, and they’d knock over liquor stores and then get drunk and stoned. She said she was never around anyway, unless it was to steal money out of her purse; And she just didn’t wanna deal with her anymore,”
“...But she was only fifteen at the time,” Rafael was stunned.
“Yeah, and that’s what I told her!” Sonny exclaimed. “Look Barba my mom is the salt of the earth, but like I said she had a lot on her plate and my dad wasn’t around a lot-- and she had three other daughters to watch out for,”
“Three of her OWN daughters,” Rafael clarified with a judgmental tone.
“HEY,” Sonny warned. “I know how it sounds. And maybe-- maybe you’re right, maybe that’s why she washed her hands clean of Sunny. Because she was just a by-product of her fucked up sister. But I-- I’m not gonna condemn her for it. And you sure as hell don’t get to judge her,”
“You’re right,” Rafael nodded while sipping his scotch.
“So I took Sunny in,” Sonny finished his beer as he wrapped up his story. “I took her in while I went through the police academy. I made sure she got sober, quit hangin’ out with those girls, I got her to do well in school, hell I got her to graduate high school!”
“And…?” Rafael pressed.
“...And when I started bouncing around precincts, she was finally a productive member of society so she started living on her own. She had a few jobs, but never really going anywhere. So once I got placed here in SVU and started making better money, I started helping her out with rent and her car, as long as she promised to start going to community college. Which she agreed to because she really does wanna make something of herself,” He half smiled thinking about how far you had come and how proud he was to call you his cousin now. You were so full of life with dreams and ambitions he never saw in you as a scared little kid.
“Okay so-- how does all of this lead to what happened tonight?” Rafael leaned back and crossed his arms.
“Because she’s still an addict, Barba!” Sonny tried not to yell, but didn’t understand why Rafael was still so flippant about you.
“Just because she got her life together-- I got her life together, doesn’t mean that she just got ‘better’. She’s on a daily see-saw of sobriety. I do weekly ‘drop ins’ just to check on her. It’s gotten a lot better as time goes on, and the less and less I worry about her, but--” He took a breath and looked at the floor.
“....Deep down she’s still that little girl with all of her walls and her distrust. She doesn’t have friends, I really don’t think she’s ever had a stable ‘boyfriend’ or ‘girlfriend,’ I mean she-- she doesn’t, talk to people,” He paused before looking up and into Rafael’s eyes.
“...Which is why it has been yankin' my chain tryin’ to figure out just why in God’s name she was so-- open, to you,” He finally admitted. “She’s never been that close to anybody else but me, not in her entire life,”
“Wait,” Rafael put a finger up. “So...you haven’t actually been jealous of Y/N this whole time, you’ve been jealous of me?” He half laughed.
“I mean, it’s a little of both,” He shrugged with a small smile, able to joke about his feelings now. “But I meant what I said when I first got here, I know the main thing that Y/N needs in her life right now is stability. And you-- you are not stable, in the least,”
“Oh I’m the unstable one?” Rafael raised an eyebrow.
“Relationship wise, yeah,” Sonny pointed out.
“....Fair point,” Rafael nodded as he finished off his scotch. He knew the longest relationship he had ever had was with the cute barista he saw every morning who knew how to make his coffee just right. And that relationship only took him five minutes a day to maintain.
“So…” Sonny knocked Rafael from his thoughts.
“So...what?” Rafael quirked an eyebrow.
“So, I think that--” Sonny took a deep breath, knowing you might hate him for this. But it was for the best, and it needed to be said.
“I think that if you care anything about her, or me for that matter, that you let me take her home, and forget about this whole weekend,”
“....I mean…” Rafael rubbed the back of his neck. He didn't want to let you go. Well, he didn't want to let go of the girl he had met at Forlini's. The girl who made him laugh, who he could be his true self around, the girl he might---
“Look the bottom line here Barba is that Y/N is-- a lot of work. I should know, I’ve been taking care of her for 19 years. But I don’t mind it, because I love her more than anything else in this world. Well, her and the rest of my family. But still-- I love her,” Sonny now stood up.
“And I get that you like her, but she--- she has gotten way too serious about you way too fast, and way too hard. And this?” He gestured around the room, referring to the whole night. “This ain’t even the tip of the iceberg with her, if she’s really fallen off the wagon,”
“...God dammit,” Rafael stood up and began to pace in his living room. He thought about every single second he had spent with you since he met you; you had never seemed so...broken, as Sonny was describing you.
“What I’m saying is, unless you’re ready to-- ‘deal’ with her, and everything that comes with that, please for the love of God, just walk away now,” Sonny pleaded.
“Because she won’t listen to me if I tell her to stay away from you. And if things get too ‘real’ for you, you’re just gonna freak out or-- or get bored, and throw her away. Her self worth will drop to shit. And if that happens, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get her back from that,”
“I would never just throw her away, Carisi,” Rafael rolled his eyes.
“You can’t say that, Barba,” Sonny debated.
“And why the hell not?” Rafael narrowed his eyes.
“Because you’ve never NOT just ‘thrown away’ someone,” He chuckled. “That front door might as well be a garbage chute,”
“You son of a--” Rafael started to yell at him but Sonny cut him off.
“Tell me I’m wrong, Barba. Look me in the eyes and tell me I have no idea what I’m talking about, and I’ll leave here and let you deal with her the way you want to,” Sonny looked at him pensively. Rafael looked at him for several seconds, then softened his glare into a sad concession.
“....Take her,” He muttered softly while looking at the ground.
“Thank you,” Sonny mumbled softly as he turned to go retrieve your passed out self from the bedroom. However, he was instead met with the most unsettling sight:
You were standing in the doorway of the room, glaring at the two of them.
“...H-Hey, Sunshine--” Sonny tried to appease you with an awkward smile.
“Don’t,” You growled, stomping into the living room and began packing your bag.
“Y/N, what are you--” Rafael went to put a hand on your bag but you snatched it away before you shot fire out of your eyes into his gaze.
“Oh, I’m sorry, did I misunderstand what you just said?” You barked at him with tears in your eyes. “Because I’m pretty damn sure I heard ‘take her’. You know like I’m some sort of defective Amazon package,”
“That’s not what I meant---” He softly spoke, the guilt of his words being heard by you was quickly eating him alive.
“No I know what you meant, Rafael,” You zipped your duffel shut angrily.
“I heard the whole god damn spiel. Which, by the way, thank you so much for detailing my entire little sob story, cousin,” You glared at Sonny as you started walking towards the front door, shoulder checking him.
“But neither of you have to worry about anything anymore, okay? You’re released from your ‘duties’. This trainwreck is leaving the station, so you can relax,” You looked at the both of them with pain in your eyes, tears cracking your words.
“Sunshine--” Sonny started after you.
“DON’T,” You glared at him while putting a finger up. “Don’t ever call me that again,”
“At least let me drive you home--”
“No,” You shook your head. “And you know what, cuz? I didn’t realize I was such a financial burden, so you know what? Cut me off. Because I’d rather be homeless again than take any more money from you,”
“What did I do?!” Sonny was now angry. “All I did was come over and try to protect you, that’s it!”
“I don’t need your protection!” You screamed. “This whole time...this whole time, I thought you were proud of me. That you trusted me,”
“I do trust you--”
“You don’t!” You stomped your foot while tears streamed down your face. “Y-You think that if . one single thing like a boy not liking me is gonna set me off, like I’m some kind of bomb you’ve kept from detonating for years. My life is not your responsibility anymore, Sonny! I don’t think it ever was!”
“Well who’s else was it gonna be?!”
“NOBODY’S!!!!” You finally dropped your duffel bag and kicked the wall, leaning your head against it. You were strangely quiet for a long pause before you spoke again in an eerily calm voice.
“...Do you know why my mother “dropped me off’ with your mother?”
“Because she couldn’t take care of you--”
“No I heard what you said,” You sniffled with a sad smile. “Because she didn’t want to,”
“Sunshine--”
“But leaving me with your mother, was her plan b,” You cut him off, still looking at the floor.
“What do you mean?” Sonny asked cautiously while looking at Rafael who had a terrified look in his eyes.
“She didn’t want to ‘burden’ her sister with me, but she had to when I wouldn’t die,”
“...W-What?” Rafael almost choked on the words in disbelief.
“She tried to smother me with a pillow, but I wouldn’t die. I kept screaming and crying, and I guess it touched her strand of humanity, so she stopped,” You rolled your eyes with the same sad smile.
That memory was forever imprinted in your brain. The terror of being woken up in blackness, unable to breathe. The smell of the cigarette smoke covered pillow being shoved into your throat and nostrils. Your mother crying and telling you it would be over soon, just to let go. And finally her sad, pathetic whimpers and sobs when she finally lifted the pillow from you, disappointed in herself that she couldn’t do one good thing in her life. That now she was going to have to pass you, her problem, onto her sister.
“Y/N, baby girl--” Sonny stepped towards you again.
“I wasn’t supposed to be raised by anybody, Sonny. I’m not even supposed to be alive!” You stomped your foot again while tears continued to flow.
“That’s not true!” He ran over and grabbed you in a hug. “You are not a burden,”
“Really?” You laughed sarcastically into his shoulder as you pushed him away from the hug. “You just said your mom didn’t even want to deal with me. Nobody did,”
“I did!” He argued. “I do,”
“Yeah well, maybe I’m my mother’s daughter. I don’t wanna be your burden,” You picked up the duffel and opened the door.
“Okay well you have no choice in that so you’re gonna have to let that go,” Sonny grabbed your hand before you could walk away.
“Fine,” You finally conceded with a blank expression.
“Guess I’ll just have to let a lot of things go, won’t I?” Your voice cracked as you looked at Rafael one more time with the saddest eyes.
He stared back at you with a stone cold face. He wanted so badly just to go and hold you in his arms, telling you how you didn’t deserve any of what happened to you, and that you deserved everything good and all the love in the world. But Sonny’s pleas were still in his head.
He didn’t know if he wanted the responsibility of your entire self worth and happiness, let alone your sobriety on his shoulders. He didn’t even like to get close to clients with that many issues, the pressure was too much. So instead he just stood there, trying not to show how much this was killing him, sending you away like this.
“Come on Sunshine, just-- let’s go, okay?” Sonny pleaded with you softly, pulling at your hand. You didn’t answer, you just nodded and started walking down the hallway towards the elevator, leaving Sonny at the door.
“...Thank you, Barba,” He mumbled softly, nodding at Rafael. Rafael barely nodded back before Sonny closed the door.
As soon as it was closed, Rafael dropped on his knees and began to cry. He didn’t know why exactly, was he crying because he felt horrible for all the shit you had gone through? Was he angry at himself for not being able to get over his own bullshit to actually open up and care about someone for more than a week? Was he really that big of a hypocrite, showing empathy to clients all the time but shutting out the one person he felt he might-- he couldn’t even think it. He wouldn’t let himself think it. He just composed himself and poured another scotch while turning on the TV, trying to forget what just happened.
His NETFLIX menu popped up; it asked him if he wanted to continue watching Bojack Horseman. He closed his eyes and muttered obscenities in spanish while memories of the night before flooded his brain, making him cry angry tears once more. He finally decided just to go to bed, maybe his brain would release him from torture if he could turn it off.
He wasn’t sure he could ever turn it off now.

Anonymous requested: Could I request willex fake dating au, maybe the boys are trying to get Alex a boyfriend and so he asks Willie to fake date him to get the boys off his back or something please!
Anon, I love fake dating AUs, I’m beyond glad that you suggested this. Plus with willex I think fake dating is very in character, especially for Alex. I had a lot of fun writing this one, thank you for your request! I’m sorry it took me so long to get round to writing it, but to make up for it I’ve made it longer than most of my other fics.
A Dream Come True
Alex had to hand it to them – when Luke and Reggie wanted something, they really pushed for it. Normally it would be one of the many things he loved about the two of them. Determination, perseverance, resilience, all good qualities. And when they put their minds towards something useful like booking Julie and the Phantoms a gig or dragging Willie out of the washing machine when he got stuck in it playing hide and seek, they were definitely useful to have around. So usually, Alex loved their pushiness.
He just didn’t like it when it was aimed at him. Even less so when they were trying (for the umpteenth time that month) to get him a boyfriend.
And the worst part was that this time Alex had run out of excuses.
For reasons Alex simply couldn’t fathom, Luke and Reggie had been obsessed with the idea of finding him a boyfriend for some weeks now. Reggie had downloaded several dating apps and entered all of Alex’s information, and every time Alex saw him the first thing Reggie would do was reel off a list of several candidates he’d deemed worthy. Luke, ever the technophobe (or rather just terrible with technology), had taken a more natural approach and spent countless hours wandering the streets of Hollywood for someone who was, in his words, ‘the sort of guy who would make Alex lose his goddamn mind’.
It wasn’t that Alex didn’t appreciate them trying to make him happy – he found it sweet, if a little weird – it was just that he knew nobody they found would ever be right. He knew what he was looking for, he knew what he wanted, and he didn’t think that Luke and Reggie could get it for him.
The first time they had tried to send him on a date Alex had faked a cold and pulled out at the last minute. The second time he had “accidentally” shown up to the wrong location and missed the entire thing. The third time he simply hadn’t gone – instead, he turned off all the lights in his house, locked all the doors and windows, and hid, so when he didn’t show up and Luke and Reggie came over looking for him they assumed he was out. The fourth time and most recent time he had pretended to fall asleep when they told him about it.
Alex wasn’t the most creative of people and he had pretty much exhausted all of his go-to date-dodging tactics. So the fifth time his friends tried to set him up, he completely panicked.
“So I was doing my usual lap of Sunset Boulevard this morning,” Luke said in lieu of a greeting the moment he walked into Julie’s garage. “And Alex, dude, bro, you will not believe the guy I saw.”
“Good morning to you to,” Alex said flatly.
Luke wrinkled his nose like the greeting confused him, but then saw Julie setting up her mic in the corner. A bright smile grew on his face as he was distracted and for a moment Alex thought he might have been lucky enough to get out of the conversation. But a moment later, Reggie entered the studio and also decided that greetings weren’t a necessity.
“Luke! Did you tell Alex about the guy yet?”
Julie snickered (she found the whole thing much funnier than Alex did and he most certainly did not appreciate it) and for a moment more Luke continued to just look at her, absolutely besotted, but then he came to his senses and all of a sudden his excited smile was directed at Alex.
“Right, that. So I ran into him outside the Orpheum, so he’s probably a music guy,” Luke gushed, winking in a way that Alex supposed was meant to be suggestive. “We had a little chat and he told me he’s training as a teacher and is also looking for someone to settle down with.”
“Sometimes I worry about you,” Alex said, laying a gentle hand on Luke’s arm. “You’re getting forgetful. I’m not looking to settle down with anyone.”
Rolling his eyes dramatically, Luke shrugged Alex’s arm off and instead planted his own hands firmly on Alex’s shoulders, shaking him a little. “Maybe not, but that might change when you meet this guy.”
“I doubt it. What’s his name?”
“Oscar. Maybe Oliver. Orville? I don’t know, but it definitely began with an ‘o’.”
“He sounds memorable,” Alex deadpanned. “I’m sure we’ll have a great time together.”
Reggie gasped excitedly. “So you’ll meet up with him then?”
“No,” Alex said firmly.
Julie giggled again (and once again Luke looked at her, dazzled). “Why not, Alex? You sounded so enthusiastic about him!”
“Very funny,” he returned. “I’m not meeting him.”
“Why not?” Luke whined, dragging the words out like a frustrated toddler. “You always do this! Reg and I try to set you up with people but you always say you don’t want to. Are we missing something?”
Alex could see the cogs whirring in Reggie’s mind before his face lit up and he triumphantly guessed, “Or are we missing someone?”
If anyone had asked, Alex wouldn’t have been able to give a reason for what he said next. It was completely untrue, a wild statement made under extreme pressure in the face of an emergency. Perhaps it was a bad decision, but he had run out of excuses to not meet people and he was getting desperate. He hadn’t had time to consider it.
Alex said, “Yes.”
Reggie’s jaw dropped, Julie dropped her microphone, and Luke dropped whatever respect he had left for Alex’s personal boundaries. He launched himself at Alex, tackling him to the floor in what he assumed was supposed to be a hug, and Alex was fairly certain that Luke was crying with happiness.
“Dude!” he shouted (though it was rather muffled since he had his face buried in Alex’s shirt). “That’s awesome news! Reggie and I can stop searching! I didn’t think you’d be able to find someone yourself, bro.”
“Thanks for having so much confidence in me,” Alex said flatly as he extricated himself from Luke’s vice grip and hoisted himself to his feet.
“You’re welcome,” Luke said as he wiped his eyes (yes, he was actually crying happy tears).
Julie had her arms crossed in front of her chest, looking half-puzzled and half-affronted. “You’re seeing someone? And you didn’t tell me? The only one of your friends who is even a little bit good at keeping a secret?”
“Hey,” Reggie interrupted, “I’m good at keeping secrets!”
“Reggie, honey, I love you but at Christmas you told everyone what you’d bought them as soon as you’d bought it.”
Reggie looked like he wanted to defend himself but couldn’t. “I was excited to see everyone’s reactions…”
Rolling her eyes fondly, Julie turned back to Alex. “Anyway – why didn’t you tell me?”
While he was a terrible liar, Alex just so happened to be a very good actor. In high school he’d got the lead role in the school play two years in a row, but whenever someone asked him if he was gay (before he had come out) he would often panic and pretend to faint to get out of the situation. Though he was technically telling a lie here, he decided it would be the prime opportunity to employ some of the improvisational skills he had worked on with Carrie back in their theatre club.
“It was all very new,” he explained, “we weren’t sure if it was going to go anywhere and we didn’t want to tell everyone until we were sure.”
It was only at this point that Alex realised he was digging a very deep hole for himself and it was most certainly too late to climb out of it now.
“When do we get to meet him?” Reggie asked excitedly.
“You already have,” Alex replied.
A little voice in the back of his mind was saying, shut up, you absolute idiot, what the hell are you playing at? Perhaps stupidly, he drowned that voice out.
Looking dumbfounded, Luke clutched Alex’s shoulders again. “We have? Who is it?”
The little voice got louder – don’t say it, Alex, I’m begging you not to say it, it’s like you’re actively trying to ruin your own life, you absolute–
“Willie.”
In eery synchrony, Luke, Julie, and Reggie all looked to each other with identical expressions of shock and bewilderment and then turned back to Alex with furrowed brows.
“Willie?” they all chorused.
Alex pursed his lips and rocked on the balls of his feet, suddenly regretting every decision he’d made that had brought him to this point in his life. “Yep.”
“I thought your thing with him finished like six months ago?” Julie said.
“Well, there wasn’t really much of a thing to finish,” Reggie reasoned, “just Alex’s pining from afar that had lasted for like four years–”
“Yes, thank you, Reginald,” Alex interrupted. It wasn’t that Reggie was wrong, Alex just didn’t like how right he was. “And yeah, it did… I guess. But then we were hanging out together a few months ago and it was really nice and we started doing it more often and eventually he asked me on a date.”
Alex was overly aware that every word he had just said was an utter lie. Firstly, he had never really got over Willie – Willie wasn’t the sort of person you could just forget or move on from, even though Alex had never actually dated him. Secondly, Alex and Willie hadn’t actually hung out together alone in quite a while. Willie had been busy with their blossoming art career, going to different presentations and awards shows, trying to make a name for himself; Alex, on the other hand, had been doing his best to avoid dating anyone. And thirdly, Willie had never once asked Alex on a date.
He knew he should have backtracked, told them the truth, but he was in far too deep.
“This has been going on for a few months?” Luke said incredulously. “How have you kept it from us that long? Dude, you just let Reggie and I spend literally all our free time trying to find you a boyfriend!”
“I never asked you to do that.”
“You could have told us to stop,” Reggie said.
“I did,” Alex returned. “Several times.”
Julie raised her hands placatingly. “Okay, okay. That’s not important right now. What’s important is that Alex and Willie are finally together. Are you sure they’ll be alright with you telling us while he’s not here?”
Alex shrugged, trying to act like he wasn’t too sure (which was easy because he’d never been less sure of anything at any time in his life). “Umm… well… we haven’t really talked about it much, but… you know, I’m sure he won’t mind too much. I’ll tell them tonight.”
Julie smiled warmly. “Well, I’m happy for you in any case. It’s nice that you’ve finally got what you wanted for so long.”
“Amen to that,” Luke said, finally picking up his guitar. Alex had all but forgotten they were supposed to be practising instead of talking about his very fake relationship with Willie which Willie didn’t even know about. “And Reg and I can finally stop looking for someone.”
“Could’ve stopped before you’d even started,” Alex said, sitting down behind his drumkit, “but alright.”
He knew that sooner or later he would have to tell Willie what he’d done and he was absolutely dreading it. Willie was a very chill person and Alex knew they’d probably find it funny more than anything, but it was still a daunting prospect. But for now, he focused himself on his drums, hammering out all of that excess anxiety, and forgetting the absolute nightmare he’d created for himself just for a little bit.
*
It was nearing one o’clock in the morning and Alex was very much not ready to go to sleep. For one thing, he was still wearing his clothes instead of pyjamas, and for another he was pacing his room like a caged lion with anxiety and had been doing so for almost three hours. He was trying to build up the courage to call Willie and let him know what had gone on, but he was so nervous that he wasn’t sure he’d even be able to string a sentence together if Willie picked up the phone.
He knew he would just have to bite the bullet. He couldn’t put it off forever or it would end in disaster. For the thousandth time he reminded himself that Willie was the kindest, funniest, most good-natured person he knew and that he had nothing to be scared of when it came to telling them that he had made a massive, probably damning mistake. Willie would be fine with it, Alex knew.
Before he could dwell on it a second longer, Alex dialled Willie’s number and let it ring.
It only rang twice before Willie picked up. Even though it was late, Alex had known Willie would pick up (the guy hardly slept at all) and he fought the urge to tell him to go to bed.
“Morning,” Willie said chirpily.
Alex checked the time and blinked in surprise; he hadn’t realise how long he’d been pacing for.
“Yeah, I guess it is,” he said. “How come you’re still awake?”
“Mario Kart,” they replied. Alex could practically hear Willie’s smile – suddenly there were butterflies in his already anxious stomach and they certainly weren’t helping. “Why are you still awake? I thought your bedtime was half nine.”
“It hasn’t been in two years and you know that,” Alex said. Willie giggled brightly which teased a smile out of Alex. “I, uh… I actually need to talk to you about something that happened today.”
Just get on with it, he told himself, don’t drag it out.
“Oh?” Willie said. “What is it? You sound nervous – do you need me to come over?”
“No,” Alex told him, “it’s late – or maybe early. Either way, you don’t need to come all the way to my place just so I can tell you this.”
“It sounds serious.”
“It might be,” Alex admitted. “It depends on how you take it.”
There was a brief silence on the other end and for a moment Alex wondered if Willie had decided to end the conversation, but then they said, “Alright, let me just pause the game.”
Another short pause as Willie stopped mid-race. Alex took the opportunity to collect himself, shake out his nerves. It would be fine. Willie would be fine with it.
“Okay,” he said a moment later. “I’m back. What’s going on, hotdog?”
Alex scratched awkwardly at the back of his neck, suddenly unsure where to start.
“Okay,” he began uncertainly. “Well… Luke and Reg have been trying to set me up with someone for a while now and I’ve been trying to avoid it as much as I can. I’ve sort of run out of excuses and you know how difficult it is for me to say no to them.”
Willie hummed knowingly. “Like with the Great Cactus Robbery of 2019.”
Alex winced at the memory – he hadn’t realised cactus spikes hurt quite that much, but he’d gone through with a lot that night for Luke and Reggie’s sake.
“Don’t remind me,” he said witheringly. “Anyway, you know what I’m talking about then. They told me about another guy earlier today and I really needed another excuse to give them. I tried just point-blank telling them no, but then they started asking questions and…”
“And?” Willie prompted.
“I told them I was seeing someone,” Alex said. There was silence on the other end. “I told them I was seeing you.”
After a moment or two (that felt like an eternity) Willie burst out laughing. Alex sighed, affronted, but he supposed it was one of the better reactions he could have got. At least Willie wasn’t angry at him.
“Why?” Willie wheezed between laughs. “Was that seriously the first thing that came to your mind?”
“Yes,” Alex grumbled. “I was under a lot of pressure. You were the obvious choice.”
They giggled happily and Alex realised just how true those words had been – whether he liked it or not, Willie would always be the obvious choice for him.
“Well, I’m flattered,” they told him, blatantly trying to contain their giggles. “Thank you for thinking of me, hotdog.”
“You’re welcome,” Alex said. “But I’m sorry about it too. I’ve created an absolute mess and dragged you into it, so I understand if you’re angry at me.”
“Does it sound like I’m angry at you?”
“No?”
“That’s because I’m not,” Willie said kindly. “I get it, man, you just panicked. No big deal. Besides, we can ride this out easily.”
Alex blinked. “We can?”
“Sure, man, it’ll be fun. We’ll pretend to date for a few weeks, have a friendly breakup, and then everything can go back to normal.”
“You’re sure?” Alex checked. This hadn’t been what he was expecting – he’d thought Willie would say it didn’t matter but he needed to come clean. He hadn’t been expecting the offer of dating.
Fake dating, said that irritating little voice in his head. It’s not real. Don’t let yourself forget that.
“Of course I’m sure,” they said. “I mean, it’s totally cool if you don’t want to, but surely it’ll be easier than backtracking completely with the others. And it’ll get Reggie and Luke off your back for a little while longer.”
He considered it, weighing up the pros and cons. On one hand, he’d get to date Willie at last, something he’d wanted to do since he met him. It would give them more of a chance to hang out together, Luke and Reggie would stop pestering him, and it was always fun to harmlessly mess with his friends. On the other hand, he wasn’t sure his sentimental little heart could stand getting to date Willie and then having him taken away even if that was the arrangement from the very start.
But it was a sacrifice he was willing to make.
“Alright,” he said resolutely. “I’m in.”
“Cool,” Willie returned happily. “Shall we meet tomorrow to discuss, you know, like, boundaries and stuff like that?”
“Sounds great. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
He heard Willie press play on his game, the unmistakable sound of an item box being broken on Mario Kart.
“See you tomorrow, Alex,” Willie said. “Or maybe now we’re dating I should be calling you ‘babe’ or something.”
If that made Alex’s heart flutter, he wouldn’t say anything about it. “We’ll go over pet names tomorrow. Goodnight, Willie.”
“Goodnight, babe.”
As Alex put his phone down and launched himself into bed (still fully clothed but suddenly far too tired to even consider getting changed) he thought to himself that there probably couldn’t have been a better outcome.
*
Alex had expected the meeting with Willie to feel awkward and weirdly formal, but it was completely the opposite. Both of them were in high spirits the whole time, jokingly holding hands and making heart eyes at each other, laughing every time one of them used a particularly ridiculous pet name for the other. (When Alex had called Willie ‘sugarpoops’ he had thought they might die from laughing.)
But the meeting was productive too. They set some effective boundaries – any touching was allowed, just not too intimate; kissing was fine, but only to prove a point; and just for the fun of it they agreed they had to act like the most sickeningly in-love couple the world had ever known. Alex didn’t really care if that would give the whole thing away, it seemed like a bit of fun and it would be useful when it came to reminding himself that none of this was actually real.
That bit, he had to admit, still stung.
He and Willie had arranged to meet Luke, Reggie, and Julie at the studio that afternoon, so spent the day together beforehand. Just to try and get into the swing of things, they treated their morning together as a mini date. Alex took Willie to minigolf, then they went to an ice cream parlour, and after that Willie tried to teach Alex how to skateboard for fifteen minutes before Alex got too nervous and gave up. It was fun and Alex tried not to think about the fact that this was the reality he was missing out on – if he imagined he was just hanging out with Willie as a friend, which in a way he was, then it was just about bearable.
They arrived outside the studio together and they could hear the other band members’ voices already inside. Alex’s stomach started squirming nervously which he thought was weird. He didn’t actually have anything to be nervous about – he and Willie weren’t really dating.
But still, he was starting to feel a little bit queasy and was seriously considering just running away.
Then he felt Willie’s hand slip into his and their fingers lace together. He looked down at them and saw that he had a kind, soft smile on his face, gently encouraging.
“Ready to be my boyfriend, sweetheart?” Willie asked teasingly.
The nerves didn’t disappear, but Alex found it a lot easier to ignore them after that.
“Always,” he said. “Let’s do this.”
Without another moment’s hesitation, Alex pushed open the studio door and led Willie inside. Julie, Luke, and Reggie all hushed immediately and looked at the couple like they’d been caught red-handed. If their guilty expressions were anything to go by, they had been talking about Alex and Willie before they had walked in. He could only guess as to what they had been saying, but at that point Alex hardly thought it mattered.
It was showtime.
“Hey guys,” he said, grinning broadly. “What are you talking about?”
The three all responded at the same time but with wildly different answers.
“That gig next week,” blurted Luke.
“I lost my favourite hairclip,” Julie explained.
“I’m thinking of buying a horse,” Reggie told them.
Alex and Willie looked at each other, trying to hide their amusement.
“Anyway,” Julie said, “doesn’t matter what we were talking about! Because you’re here now, both of you! And you’re dating!”
Without warning, Willie giggled brightly and attached himself to Alex like a koala to a tree. Alex laughed and threw his arms around Willie, holding them tightly, pressing a firm kiss to the top of their head.
“I feels so good to finally have it out in the open,” Willie gushed, gazing at Alex with pure adoration in his eyes. “Right, sugarplum?”
Alex gently rubbed the tip of his nose against Willie’s, fighting the urge to laugh. “Of course, my little cheesecake.”
Out of the corner of his eye, Alex could see his friends’ expressions – he had to close his eyes so he wouldn’t be able to see them, otherwise he definitely would have broken character and started laughing so hard he couldn’t breathe. Luke looked utterly horrified, like the display of affection was disgusting; Julie was staring at the two of them wide-eyed, her face flushed red, looking like she would rather be anywhere else; and Reggie just looked baffled.
After a while, Julie cleared her throat and the couple turned to look at her innocently.
“So,” she said, “we’ve heard Alex’s version of the story, but Willie – how did… all this happen?”
Willie linked his arm through Alex’s marched the two of them over to the couch and sat Alex down, then sat primly on his lap, laying their head against Alex’s shoulder. “I’m so glad you asked.”
“I’m not,” Luke muttered, “this is weird.”
Julie kicked his shin and he shut his mouth.
“I had been watching Alex from afar ever since we met, but I didn’t think a cool, handsome drummer could ever care about someone like me. I was convinced we would only ever be friends. But then we hung out together and I saw all these different sides to his personality – he’s so caring and soft, you know, and he means everything he says. Alex isn’t like anyone I’ve ever met. So I decided to just go for it, ask him out, admit how I feel.”
Alex stroked a hand through Willie’s hair, eyes fixed on him. “Since then we’ve never looked back. And we never will.”
“Oh, my darling!” Willie exclaimed, throwing themself at Alex and pressing a kiss to his lips.
It certainly wasn’t how Alex had envisioned his first kiss with Willie going (and he had envisioned a great many different versions of it) but in a strange way it felt just right. Sure, they weren’t dating, but they were hanging out together, having fun, being in each other’s company and loving every second of it. Maybe the circumstances weren’t exactly what Alex wanted, but the love they held for one another was still there, nothing could take that away.
So maybe it wasn’t the best decision he’d ever made, but Alex let himself get lost in the kiss. He didn’t know how many times he’d get to do this in his life, so he figured it was better to make the most of it. He blocked out the fact that his friends were right there (a sure sign that he wasn’t thinking straight – absently he knew that he would be very embarrassed by this when it was all over) and just focused on Willie.
And he was sure he wasn’t imagining the fact that Willie seemed to be enjoying it just as much.
When Julie eventually cleared her throat again, they separated. But Alex couldn’t take his eyes off Willie. He knew he wasn’t imagining what he’d felt in that kiss – like sparks had flown between them, forcing their dynamic into something much more than friendly banter and an inside joke. Willie’s eyes were glassy and he was breathing heavily, scanning Alex’s face for something, though Alex didn’t know what. All he knew was that the kiss had pushed the boundaries they had spent all morning setting and if he wasn’t more careful he would lose himself to this silly little charade.
The five of them spent the rest of the afternoon and evening just talking to each other. Willie stayed firmly planted in Alex’s lap and they both used the occasional cutesy nickname for each other, but it seemed as if both of them had silently made the decision to tone things down a little bit. Luke seemed relieved about it at least – for all the heart eyes he made at Julie he certainly seemed uncomfortable at the affection Alex and Willie had shown. It was probably because Alex hardly ever showed love like that in front of people.
But god, he wanted to do it all again.
Luckily, it didn’t seem like any of their friends suspected Alex and Willie of lying to them. By the time they were all on their way home – Alex and Willie walking away hand in hand – nobody had brought up the fact that it could all be fake.
“That went well,” Willie said as they walked along the seafront, heading back to his place. The cold night breeze lifted their hair and Alex couldn’t keep his eyes off them, not when they were looking so beautiful.
“Yeah,” he said, watching the way the amber glow of the streetlamps danced in Willie’s eyes. “It did.”
“Have you thought about how long we’re going to do this for?” Willie asked. Alex was sure he heard nervousness in Willie’s tone, maybe mingled with hope.
He shrugged. “A few weeks maybe. Unless you had something else in mind.”
“No, no, that’s fine, man.” They had arrived at Willie’s apartment building and stopped just outside of it. “I’ll see you tomorrow then?”
“Yeah,” Alex said, smiling smally. “See you tomorrow.”
He didn’t know what he was thinking – he had expected a goodnight kiss from Willie, but instead he was left alone in the cold as Willie let go of his hand and hurried into the building. Alex was suddenly reminded again that it was all fake, that he shouldn’t have expected kisses when they were alone.
It hurt though. He knew that kiss earlier had been more than just top-notch acting.
He fell asleep that night, still thinking about it, the memory replaying on a loop in his mind. In one way or another, Willie was going to drive him crazy.
*
The next two weeks flew by. Alex found himself hanging out just with Willie more and more often, playing Mario Kart together at Willie’s insistence, going on more dates that weren’t actually dates, or even just video-chatting each other while doing their own separate things to enjoy the company.
After that first day as a “couple”, Alex was sure Willie’s confidence had been knocked. For the next few days they withdrew himself from Alex and Alex didn’t know if he’d done something wrong or if it was just something on Willie’s mind. Still, he let Willie work through it, and a few days later he was back to normal, clinging to Alex like a barnacle to a ship, calling him every pet name under the sun.
And still their friends were none the wiser.
The end of their time as a couple came all too quickly. Alex walked Willie back to his apartment again, a heaviness in his heart. He didn’t know how an actual breakup felt, but he was willing to bet that a breakup would be less painful than whatever this was. No part of him wanted to give this up, whatever silly little thing was going on between him and Willie – it was fun, it was freeing, it gave Alex a light feeling in his chest and made him so happy he thought he might burst at any moment. He didn’t want to give any of it up.
But still he walked Willie to his door.
They stood facing each other, hands interlinked between them, sad smiles on each of their faces. Alex tried to memorise every detail on Willie’s face as if it was the last time he would see them.
“This has been fun,” he said eventually, his voice low, quiet in the night air.
“You can say that again,” Willie agreed. “I loved being your boyfriend.”
“I loved being your boyfriend.”
Something flickered in Willie’s eyes, an expression gone too quickly for Alex to name, but it was quickly forgotten because a moment later Willie stood up on his tiptoes and kissed Alex.
It wasn’t like any of the other kisses they had shared in the past few weeks. There was nothing over-the-top and exaggerated about it, it wasn’t just a stunt they pulled to fool their friends. It was slow and soft and Alex felt the rest of his body go fuzzy and numb as all he could concentrate on was Willie’s lips on his.
An eternity later, Willie pulled away, his eyes scanning Alex’s face.
Alex swallowed heavily and said, “I thought we could only kiss each other to prove a point.”
Willie nodded. “Did I not get my point across very well? Do I need to kiss you again?”
Alex almost laughed but something stopped him. “Just… just explain it to me first. So I don’t get the wrong idea.”
“I loved being your boyfriend,” Willie said. “You enjoyed being my boyfriend. So… why should we stop?”
Alex felt his head spin. Somehow the nightmare he’d created for himself all those weeks ago was turning into a dream come true.
“You mean that?” he asked. “Tell me you mean that, Willie, please.”
“I mean it,” Willie said resolutely. “I’ve felt this way about you for too long just to let it go. If you want me then I want you. I want to date you, Alex. For real.”
Alex kissed him again, short but sweet.
“Is that a yes?” Willie asked, giggling.
“There’s no other answer I could have ever given.”
Even though they remained boyfriends (real ones this time), Alex and Willie decided to drop the over-the-top, lovey-dovey stuff. It was fun, but it wasn’t them. Instead, they chose to fill every second together with quiet declarations of love, casual dates, soft kisses, nothing that wasn’t real.
But they never did tell Luke, Reggie, and Julie how much of it had been fake.

and i pay for my place by the ring (Chapter 3)
Hey everyone and welcome to the third and likely final chapter of this saga! When I was writing this, I told my friends it might end up the shortest chapter.
Spoiler alert: it was not, in fact, the shortest chapter.
Anyways, thank you guys for sticking with me through this insane journey of angst writing! The story doesn't end here, but the fic does because I think I'm going to be switching how I write it a little bit. You'll see if I ever get the energy to write the continuation.
(Also, I've stopped putting AO3 links in the actual post because then it doesn't show up in the tag.)
Anyways, enjoy this chapter!
Chapter Title: to turn at last to paths that lead home
Chapter Wordcount: 4686
Content warnings: mentions of death, violence, blood, mild injury, religion, self-esteem issues. There is also something that could be considered similar to deadnaming, though the character is not necessarily trans, so read with caution if that could be triggering to you.
Actual fic under the cut:
That night, Scott dreams he’s a child again, playing amongst the peaks with Xornoth by his side. They laugh as they dart out of his reach, and he jumps over a rock to try and catch them.
“Too slow,” Xornoth snickers, and Scott glares at them.
“Someday I’ll be ten times as fast as you, and stronger too!”
They laugh again and tackle him into the grass, forceful enough to push him down but not enough to really hurt. “Alright, little bro.”
“You’re only older by seven minutes!”
“Seven minutes, more like seven times cooler than you!”
Scott reaches up and tickles them, grinning wickedly as they yelp and roll off him.
The scene shifts, and this time it’s a teenaged Xornoth laying on the hill beside him, staring up at the sky.
“Hey, Scott?”
“Yeah?”
“If anything ever happens to me-”
“It won’t,” Scott interrupts, heart in his throat. “Nothing’s going to happen to you.”
“It could-”
“No.”
They sigh. “Alright. But if it ever does, I need you to promise me one thing.”
“What is it?”
“I need you to promise that you’ll take care of Rivendell.”
Scott glares at them. “Rivendell hates me. Don’t ask-”
“Please. Scott, please just promise me this one thing.” Their face is deathly serious. “I don’t- nothing’s going to happen to me, but I need to know that Rivendell will be safe if anything does.”
"But-"
"Please, Scott. I know you would do brilliant at it, and I need the guarantee.
He sighs but ultimately gives in. “I wouldn't, but fine. I promise.”
Xornoth nods, seemingly satisfied. “You’re leaving tonight, right?”
“I am.”
“Then take this.” They roll over and press something into his hand. “You’ll need it.”
Scott looks down to see Vilya, the silver band gleaming in the sunlight. “Xor, you can’t give me this. This is-”
“I know perfectly well what it is, little bro.” He looks up to find them smiling sadly. “And I know you’ll need it. Now better wake up, your husband’s calling.”
“My wha-”
Scott’s plunged back into awareness to the sound of Jimmy calling his name.
“Scott? Please?” He sounds shaken, but it barely registers in Scott’s sleepy brain.
Scott rolls over and blinks his eyes open to see Jimmy watching him with concern. “Five more minutes, darling.”
“I think something’s wrong,” Jimmy says, urgent. “It feels wrong. Really wrong.”
That wakes Scott up, alright, the fear in his husband’s voice sending a spike of worry through him as he sits up. “What is it?”
“I don’t know. It’s alright, go back to sleep.”
“No, no, I trust your gut.” He trusts Jimmy more than anything else, really, which is why he gets up and out of bed. “Let’s go look, and if it’s nothing then I’ll sleep more, okay?”
Jimmy nods, hurrying after him. “I have a really terrible feeling, Scott. Be careful, please.”
“I should be telling that to you,” Scott teases.
“Hey, I’ve gotten more careful!”
Scott can’t help but laugh at how offended his husband sounds, but his mirth dies as quickly as it came. “You’re right, Jimmy. Something isn’t right.” It’s making the hairs on his arm stand up, a prickling unease similar to what he felt before the battle where Jimmy died.
“I know, it feels awful!”
“Mhm.” Scott grabs his favorite axe, glancing back at Jimmy one more time. “Stay behind me, just in case.”
He swings the door open. It takes a moment to spot what’s wrong, but once he does, his heart plummets; Xornoth is standing across the valley next to his enchanting tower, their face and body twisted with corruption but still unmistakably Scott’s sibling.
“That’s the demon!” Jimmy hisses. He sounds terrified, and Scott can’t blame him, much as it feels like a punch to the gut to know that his sibling is the one who’s been harassing his husband.
Scott grits his teeth. Protect Rivendell, that’s what he promised Xornoth all those years ago. “That?”
“Yes!”
“Right. Okay.” He takes a deep breath, trying to compose himself. “Jimmy, I need you to listen to exactly what I say right now. If I say get down, you get down. If I say run, you run and don’t look back no matter what you hear. Can you do that?”
Jimmy’s response comes a second later. “I trust you. If you say run, I’ll run.” The pure faith in the words is enough to make Scott’s throat close up for a moment, choked with sudden emotion at the level of trust Jimmy’s showing him even after everything that happened.
He shoves that feeling down. “Alright. Give me your engagement ring.”
“Wh-”
“Trust me. Please.” Scott’s nearly begging, voice cracking a bit on the last word. Jimmy must hear how weak he sounds, because he gives in without question, handing over Vilya.
Scott slides it onto his finger, hands trembling just a bit as he does. He remembers being given this ring, being just as terrified by how much Xornoth trusted him then as he is by how much Jimmy trusts him now. Ironic, really, that now he’ll be using this ring against the person who gave it to him to begin with. “Okay, Jimmy. I’m about to go out the front door, and when I do, I need you to go out the side door over there and run for the stables. When you get there, roll in the mud and then run for the village. Speed over stealth, corrupted elves track by smell and sound rather than sight.” He keeps the instructions quick and clear, praying that Jimmy’s not stubborn enough to disobey. He can’t lose Jimmy, he can’t.
Thank god, Jimmy nods.
Scott takes another deep breath, brain awhirl as he tries to figure out how he’s going to keep both Jimmy and Rivendell safe. “From there, I need you to track down an elf called Gilnar and tell them to lock down the kingdom and warn everyone of the danger.” After a moment's thought, he adds “I also need you to tell them that Lord Smajor orders them to protect you.” Gilnar’s trustworthy, they’ll look after Jimmy.
“What about you?” Jimmy asks. “Will you be okay?”
His heart aches at the concern, and it aches more when he opens his mouth to lie. “I will, I promise. He doesn’t meet Jimmy’s eyes, knowing he’ll break if he does.
Thankfully, Jimmy says nothing about it, instead reaching for one of the spare swords. Good, good, he can protect himself.
“Ready?” Scott asks.
“Ready,” Jimmy confirms, though his voice trembles.
Scott shoves down the part of him that screams that this wasn’t supposed to be his responsibility, that he should just run while he can. He made a promise to his sibling all those years ago, and he’s going to keep it even if it’s now them that he has to defend Rivendell from.
He steps out the door.
Out of the corner of his eye, he can see Jimmy bolt for the stables, but the greater part of his attention is focused on Xornoth, still floating ominously across the valley.
“You do not belong here,” Scott calls out in Sindarin. It’s a challenge more than anything, practically asking them to come fight him.
He knows he’s messing with forces he doesn’t understand and cannot win against, knows it as surely as he knows his own name. Xornoth has always been faster and stronger, after all, ever since they were children.
And yet-
And yet he has to try regardless. After all, when they were children, Scott always tried to win anyways, even if it never worked. And now, the weight of an empire resting on his shoulders and his husband somewhere in the village behind him, the stakes are higher than just his pride. So he squares his shoulders and doesn’t back down as Xornoth appears in front of him with a ripple of smoke, a cruel smirk on their face.
“Well, well, well, dear brother. Never thought it’d come to this.”
“Neither did I,” Scott retorts.
They grin again. “I belong here just as much as you, you know.”
He raises his axe, gritting his teeth. “You did once, but not anymore.”
Xornoth laughs as they dart out of the way of his blows, tendrils of corruption curling around them and reaching for him. “I belong here more than you ever will.”
He stumbles back, trying to get out of their reach. “That’s not true either.”
“Oh, but it is. I thought you’d be too much of a coward to ever face me, you know. Spineless little Scott, running away from his problems like you ran away from our family.”
“We had no family left! It was just you and me!”
“And you left me to be consumed by my own greed and despair. The sibling you know died years ago and it’s all because you’re a coward.”
Scott flinches, barely bringing his axe up in time to block their next strike. “That’s not- that wasn't my fault! I didn't mean for that to happen."
“Do you really think that? Are you really foolish enough to think that you didn’t hurt me by leaving?” Xornoth’s grin is razor-sharp.
“You told me to leave if it would make me happier,” Scott cries, lapsing back into English without thinking about it.
“You shouldn’t have wanted to leave in the first place. No real elven ruler would want to leave the oldest sanctuary of the elves.”
They have him backing up again and again, barely holding them off. “I tried- I was-”
“Look at you, an elf speaking a human language,” Xornoth hisses. “How did you ever think you were going to be good enough for them? You’re never going to be the real king of Rivendell, Elinar.”
“Don’t- don’t call me that,” Scott pants.
“Elinar,” they taunt again. “Stupid, stupid Elinar. Weak, pathetic little Elinar.”
Scott stumbles backward, landing on his butt in the grass as Xornoth towers over him. His axe falls to the side, snatched by a tendril of corruption as they reach out, digging their claws into his shoulders and pushing him down. Scott’s helpless to do anything when those same tendrils reach for him, the smell of rot permeating the air. They hesitate for a moment, hovering above him, and then Xornoth grins sadistically and the corruption snatches him.
It hurts. It hurts more than any pain he’s ever felt. More than Etho’s arrow in his throat, more than Martyn’s arrow to the chest, more than Ren’s sword through his back. More than even waking up back in Rivendell. The corruption wraps itself around his throat and wrists, pinning him to the ground as his older sibling grins. Scott distantly registers that he’s screaming, writhing as he tries to get out of their hold, but everything’s fuzzy with his brain clouded by pain. He doesn’t want to die, not like this. Anything but this.
There’s a faint, familiar voice in the distance, though Scott can’t focus on what it’s saying through the haze of pain. It sounds comforting, though, and he clings to the noise like a lifeline.
All of the sudden, the pain stops and the corruption draws back slightly as Xornoth turns away.
“What did you say to me?” they hiss, in English this time.
“I said you’re ugly!” The same voice calls, and this time Scott recognizes it as Jimmy. Oh, god, Jimmy. “And you suck! Leave my husband alone!”
Xornoth loosens their hold on Scott’s shoulders, turning towards wherever Jimmy is, and Scott’s gets a rush of determination. He can’t let them hurt Jimmy.
Scott backhands them across the face, kicking his way free of their hold with strength he didn’t know he still had. They give a tiny yelp of surprise, a familiar sound, and he staggers to his feet.
This time, he doesn’t bother with the axe. Instead, he forces his will into Vilya, praying to any and every god that it will work for him. He doesn’t even believe in the elven gods any longer, and yet he’s still praying to Aeor, to Varda, to Manwe, to any deity out there that he’s enough of a true elvenking to make a ring of power bend to his will.
“You are not welcome here!” Scott shouts, and he feels the ancient strength of Vilya behind his words.
Xornoth hisses, staggering backwards. “Fine! Banish me, then, if you’re a true enough king to do it. Run back to your mortal lover, Elinar, and pray to all the gods that he doesn’t ever see how worthless you really are.”
He doesn’t flinch, though it’s a close thing. “Leave! Leave and never return!”
This time, Vilya pulses more strongly, and Xornoth is forced out of Rivendell with a hum of power.
Scott stumbles as that rush of power leaves him, collapsing to the ground. His entire body aches from the fight, but more than that, Xornoth’s last words are still ringing in his mind. Pray to all the gods that he doesn’t ever see how worthless you really are. They’re right. He knows they’re right, and that’s the worst part about it.
“Scott! Scott!” He can hear Jimmy call, and within a minute, Jimmy’s standing in front of him.
Scott looks up at his husband- his beautiful, brave husband who he’s never once deserved- his breathing ragged as he tries to reach out. “Jimmy,” He manages, a hoarse whisper.
Jimmy kneels by him, concern written across his face clear as day. “What’s wrong? Where- what’s hurt? I’ll fix it, I promise, I-” Scott grabs him and yanks him into a hug, hardly daring to believe he’s real.
“Oh,” Jimmy says, quiet, dumbstruck. He hugs Scott oh-so-gently, though his embrace isn’t enough to soothe Scott’s trembling. “It’s alright, Scott, we’re alright.”
“Jimmy,” Scott gasps. He needs his husband, needs him to be okay. “Jimmy, I can’t.”
“I-”
“I want it to be over.” It sounds so childish, but he’s so tired. “I don’t want elves or nations or politics. I just want you.”
“I know, I know,” Jimmy soothes.
‘Why does it have to be me? It wasn’t supposed to be! It wasn’t supposed to be me!” Scott wants to shout it, scream it to the world, because it’s not fair. He wasn’t supposed to be heir to Rivendell. He wasn’t supposed to have a ring of power. He wasn’t supposed to be forced to fight his own sibling. It’s not fair, but it happened anyways. It happened anyways, and that’s what breaks him, voice cracking as he begs for something, though he doesn’t even know what he wants at this point. Peace, maybe. Happiness. “I- please- shouldn’t have- Jimmy. Jimmy .”
He repeats Jimmy’s name over and over, searching for any small scrap of comfort as his sobs tear him to pieces, clutched in his husband’s arms on the grass. Jimmy’s so gentle with him, his embrace so kind as he presses soft kisses to Scott’s head and murmurs in a comforting tone, though Scott’s too far lost in his own head to hear any of what Jimmy says. His world narrows to warm arms around him, the texture of Jimmy’s shirt clutched between his fingers. Jimmy smells like dirt and swamp water- it’s the silliest thing to notice when Scott’s busy sobbing over having to fight his own sibling, but it’s easier to think about than anything else. It’s easier to think about Jimmy than anything else, really, easier to cling to the sound of his voice and his hand on Scott’s back than confront the way Scott’s grief is eating him alive.
Distantly, he can hear footsteps approaching. They’re too light to be anything but elven, not that that’s a surprise when they’re in the home of the elves. He can’t bring himself to lift his head and face them, not when his breath is still coming quick and ragged.
Gilnar’s first to speak, hesitant concen leaking into their words. “Uh, milord?”
Scott can feel Jimmy’s grip tighten protectively, can practically imagine his affronted look as he opens his mouth to snap back. “Give him a goddamn minute! He just fought a demon for all of you, let the man rest! I know you’re all elves and you’re all- all elegant and composed or whatever, but you can’t expect someone to be perfect! We’re all human, you know!” He winces a little, knowing the elves are going to tear Jimmy to shreds for that.
Indeed, one of his advisors speaks up, disdain clear in their tone. “You are human, Codfather. We are not. Lord Smajor knew the responsibilities and difficulties of ruling.”
It’s ever the way of elven royalty- their rulers cannot dare be flawed.
“He’s too young for this,” Someone else mutters. There’s as much pity in their tone as there is disdain, a strange mix of concern and derision.
“I- well I don’t think anyone could have expected a demon! And probably even less people’d be willing to fight one!” Jimmy’s voice rises with every sentence. Scott wants to tell him to spare the outrage- he’s not worth it. “Scott’s one of the bravest, kindest, smartest people I know, so lay off him, will you?”
“You know nothing of the affairs of elves,” his advisor sniffs, and Scott’s blood boils at how rude they’re being to Jimmy.
It’s that outrage that gives him the energy to raise his head, forcing his breathing to steady out. “It’s fine, Jimmy. They are correct, I do have responsibilities.” You shouldn’t be defending me, he doesn’t say. I’m not worth your outrage.
“They can’t expect you to be perfect,” Jimmy argues back.
Scott almost laughs, knowing full well that they can and should. Instead, though, he breaks free of Jimmy’s embrace and gets to his feet with far more effort than that should really take. “Gilnar, get the village out of lockdown and make sure people are aware of the threat of Xornoth. Celebear, search the library for any books on corruption of elves, and Lauriel, translate any you find that are not Sindarin into it. Elder council, I need research done on any rings of power that are strong enough to counteract Vilya to that degree, that will narrow down what Xornoth has.” His voice comes out hoarse, and he’s barely aware of what he’s saying, but he forces himself to carry on. “Now, the Codfather and I need to negotiate wool and fish trades,” Scott adds, the quickest excuse he can think of. He grabs Jimmy’s hand, dragging him away as quickly as he can manage, and ignores the stares that follow him.
They make it up the hill and into Scott’s house before Scott’s legs give out, sending him into a chair with an undignified thump. “Well, fuck me to the End and back.”
“Are they always like that?” Jimmy sounds more concerned than anything.
“Pretty much. Gilnar’s okay, just tough as shit, and so are Celebear and Lauriel, but...I wasn’t- well, I wasn’t meant to inherit Rivendell, and the Council of Elders takes every opportunity to remind me of that fact.” That’s just how it is- he doesn’t bother getting upset over it at this point. He’s always going to be second-best.
“Oh.” Jimmy hesitates, and then asks “Who’s Xornoth?”
Scott would be lying if he said he wasn’t terrified of Jimmy’s reaction, but he has nothing left to lose, so he laughs bitterly and answers honestly. “My twin, also known as the demon that’s been terrorizing you.”
“What?”
“My twin. My older sibling.” He gives another little laugh. “The person who was supposed to inherit the throne of the elves. Who was better than Scott in every way.
“What?” Jimmy sounds shocked and confused, but not angry, not yet, so Scott elaborates.
“Let me start from the beginning. My parents were two elven monarchs, one of the Sindar, and one of the Noldor. With other bloodlines mixed in, but the Sindar and Noldor is the important bit since those two groups haven’t always gotten along. Somewhere around fifty-five years ago, they started trying for kids. What they didn’t expect was that Xornoth and I are identical twins, only the fifth set of elven twins ever recorded.” Old legend says that elven twins are only born in times of great conflict, and Scott can’t exactly say it's wrong.
“Whoa.”
“Mhm. Xornoth was- is- technically the older one, who was always set to inherit the throne of the elves and unite our divided people. They were compared to Elrond, wise and powerful leader of another land named Rivendell far in the past, and I was Elros, his twin. Impulsive, snarky, human.” Scott spits the word a bit like a curse, not because he hates humans, but because he hates himself and all the ways he’s too much like them. He closes his eyes against a fresh set of tears, blinking away the memory of Xornoth’s face when he left Rivendell. “Our parents died when we were both quite young, and we were brought up expecting Xornoth to take the throne as soon as they came of age. I spent my time hanging out with mortals, instead, getting involved in things like mcc and 3rd life.”
“Ohhh,” Jimmy says intelligently. It’s such a Jimmy way to react to something so serious, Scott might laugh if the mood were lighter.
“When I was the elven equivalent of seventeen or so, Xornoth gave me a ring. This ring, specifically.” Scott taps the ring that’s still resting on his middle finger, feeling it hum in return. “Vilya, an elven ring of power. They told me to leave Rivendell and not return.”
“Why?”
“I didn’t know at the time, but they were being corrupted by a ring of their own, not to mention their own desire for power.” Scott feels Jimmy take his hand, and looks up to see gentle concern written across his husband’s face. He has to blink again, turning away and forcing his voice to stay steady. “I returned after coming of age while away to find that Xornoth had fled and I was now the heir of Rivendell. Which absolutely no one wanted.”
“Why not? You’re amazing!” Jimmy protests. He sounds so very sincere about it, which makes it all the more heartbreaking how utterly wrong he is.
“Remember when I told you that I’m not a very elven elf? That. I’m too human for their tastes, spend too much of my time with humans.”
“Well, I think you’re wonderful.”
Scott squeezes his hand tight, letting a little of his fondness show. “Thank you, Jimmy. I love you.”
“I love you too.” Something like confusion flashes across Jimmy’s face, and then he opens his mouth again. “Wait. Scott?”
“Yes, darling?”
“Did you give me an elven ring of power for an engagement ring?”
Scott looks away again, his cheeks heating up. “….Maybe.”
“Me! You gave me, little old Jimmy Solidarity, an elven ring of power?” JImmy’s half-laughing, but the sentiment behind the words sounds real. Too real, Scott thinks; it’s as if Jimmy doesn’t know just how incredible he truly is.
“You’re the most precious thing in my life,” Scott tells him, and he means every word. “I gave you everything I could offer.”
It’s kind of adorable how quickly Jimmy flushes, his face going red and his voice rising an octave. “Stop that!”
“Stop what?” Scott asks- perfectly innocently, mind you.
“Saying that stuff and giving me that look, you know what I mean!” He definitely doesn’t. “That soft one that- that makes me all blushy and stuttery!” Jimmy adds, and Scott grins a little. Jimmy’s just too fun to fluster.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he denies, though he’s sure his smile is giving him away as less innocent than he claims.
“I’m trying to scold you for giving me a ring of power that’s super important, stop- stop flirting, for goodness sake!”
“You’re hot when you’re flustered, though.” Scott barely restrains a yawn from slipping into his voice, trying to wipe some of the blood off his face so it’ll stop getting in his eyes.
“Let me get that,” Jimmy offers. Scott’s too tired to protest his fussing, letting Jimmy dab at the cut with a wet rag and bandage it. Jimmy moves on to cleaning out smaller cuts and scrapes, then the bruises, handing Scott some ice to put on the largest ones. It’s sweet, really, how fussed he is over even the smallest injury. Scott doesn’t think he deserves Jimmy taking care of him this gently, but he can’t bring himself to push him away.
Even if it is a bit annoying that Jimmy’s making him do math to check if he has a concussion. “Ninety-two, ninety-one, I swear I’m fine, Jimmy,” Scott huffs, “Ninety, eighty-nine, eighty-eight, eighty-seven, I literally explained elven rings of power to you, eighty-six, eight-five, can I stop counting now?”
“No.”
“Jimmyyyyyyyy.” Scott must sound like a whiny child, but he’s tired.
“Just a bit more? For me?” Jimmy asks. And oh, that bastard, he’s giving Scott the face that Scott can’t ever say no to. Bastard. Absolute bastard. Scott won’t give in, he won’t.
That determination lasts all of ten seconds before Scott sighs and gives in. “Fine. Eighty-four, eighty-three, eighty-two…”
Jimmy makes him count all the way down to seventy and then multiply together thirteen and twelve, which Scott doesn’t hesitate to whine about
“I can’t believe my own husband made me do math.”
Jimmy’s laughter is worth every second of the math, actually, Scott decides as his husband bops him on the nose. “I’ll make breakfast to make up for it?”
“You better!” Scott tells him. He’s trying to sound affronted, but it just comes out fond, much to his exasperation.
Jimmy laughs again and sets about making pancake batter, which Scott doesn’t hesitate to steal bits of even when Jimmy scolds him for it. It’s peaceful, being able to lean back in his chair and laugh when his husband tries to scold him for flirting. The morning light streams in through his window, casting the side of Jimmy’s face in a golden glow, He looks so alive silhouetted like that, a grin splitting his face and bits of flour in his hair. Scott’s breath catches for a minute just looking at him, the familiar ache in his chest returning, though there’s nothing truly tragic about the scene before him.
He shakes that off when Jimmy offers him the first pancake, shoving thoughts of the future aside. For now, he’ll drink hot chocolate in a sunlit kitchen and pretend his hands don’t tremble just enough to nearly spill it. He’s not going to think about the cuts and bruises scattered across his body, not when Jimmy is looking at him like that, with such utter adoration that Scott can barely believe his luck. How did he get a husband so sweet and warm when he’s as bitterly cold as a Rivendell winter? But whether he deserves it or not, Jimmy’s right there laughing along with him, and Scott can’t find it in himself to be unhappy about it.
This won’t last, he thinks as he watches Jimmy try to fit an entire pancake in his mouth just to see if he can. If Jimmy doesn’t die to his own idiocy or the cruel will of Xornoth, time will take him from Scott as surely as the stars shine above Rivendell. Scott is not Luthien or Idril or Arwen, the elven royals lucky enough to spend the rest of eternity with their mortal husbands; Jimmy will die, likely sooner rather than later, and Scott will be alone with the cold weight of a crown to bear and no sunshine to warm him.
This won’t last, but Scott says nothing of it, sipping his hot chocolate and smiling a little sadly into the mug as Jimmy rambles about different types of fish and their personalities. And if his hands are still cold, and he can’t stop a small shiver? Well, Rivendell has always been a cold empire, hasn’t it?

I don't wanna go...
Pairing: Marauders × platonic!fem!potter! reader
Word count: 1.3K
Warnings: swearing, blood, death
Type: angst
Summary: No one knows what will the new year at Hogwarts bring. Well, this year was very much more different than the others.
A/N: Okay. I’ve probably hurt myself more when I wrote this than I will you. It’s my first angsty fic, so I don’t know if it’s good. I haven't mention Peter, but he is somewhere around. I just didn't know where to put him. Feedback would be really welcomed and appreciated. I’m sorry in advance.
“I DON’T WANNA GO!” you yelled, trying to convince Euphemia not to go to the party.
“Well you’re going,” she said, “it’s Dorothy’s birthday and she invited us, so you’re going.”
“But-” you tried to contend
“No argues here young lady. You’re going.” she stated, that mother tone in her voice.
“Fine, but so that you know, James doesn’t want to go either.”
“Hey, don’t drag me into this! I honestly don’t care. Besides we’re gonna see Pads again, so it’s worth it.”
“Fine,” you finally stopped trying “There’s gonna be alcohol, right?” you whispered into James’s ear.
“You know it.” he whispered, a smirk appearing on his face. Well, that explains a lot of things, you thought.
It was a sunny, beautiful morning. The birds were singing, the sun was shining through the curtains and overall, it was lovely. You and James were enjoying the last weeks of summer, having to go back to Hogwarts soon. You almost forgot it was Dorothy’s birthday until mom reminded you. Dorothy was your mother's best friend since Hogwarts. She is a brunette woman with green eyes. She loves to talk and compliment the twins each time they get there. And it wasn’t any different this time.
“Oh, Euphemia, you have such beautiful and healthy kids.” she said cupping both of your and James’s cheeks.
“Thank you” your mother said.
“I see Pads,” you whispered
“Make an excuse” he whispered back.
“We would really much like to talk, but we gotta go to the bathroom.” you quickly made something up.
“Sure honey, go.” your mom replied.
“Bathroom, really?”
“Well did you have a better idea?” you whisper-yelled back.
“Whatever. PADS!”
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t my favorite twins. Hello, fancy seeing you here.”
“Oh, shut up” you said, wrapping your hands around his neck, pulling him into a hug
“I’ve missed you.” he says.
“Well, what am I? A potato?” James said, putting his hand on his chest.
“Oh, don’t be such a baby” Sirius said, giving him a bro hug. The rest of the evening was quite enjoyable, drinking champagne and catching up with one another, not hanging out since the end of the 6th year.
~
Holidays were over before you knew it. Now here you were, standing at the King’s Cross saying goodbye to your parents and greeting Remus. The train took off and soon enough you came to Hogwarts and the term started.
The first few months went by ordinary; with the fact that NEWT’s were coming, of course. You couldn’t wait to finish Hogwarts and become an Auror, as you always wanted. It was your dream and soon they’ll come true. At least you hoped. But hey, with Remus tutoring you and you getting your shit together, anything is possible.
Months went by and NEWT’s were getting closer and closer as were your nerves getting bigger and bigger. You really wanted it. To become an Auror. You and Sirius made a vow when you were younger to become Aurors, together. You weren’t worried for him, he’ll do all of his exams perfectly. He’s naturally talented. The person you were concerned about was you.
“Y/N, relax. You can do this! We’ve been practicing this for over a month now. Those hours spent in the library are gonna pay off.” said Remus, at breakfast before the potions test. It was the last one you had, the last step from committing to your dream career.
“I know Rem. It’s going to be alright. I’m gonna nail it!” you shouted. Maybe a little too loud, because half of the Great hall turned to you.
“Now, we’re talking.” he high-fived you.
“I know I can do it, I know I can do it.” you kept muttering to yourself.
“Miss Potter!” an unknown person shouted. Probably from the ministry, you thought. For the last time, you repeated your lessons with Remus from the library, before stepping into the classroom. The questions weren’t too hard and soon enough the lady said you passed. You couldn’t believe it. You did it! You are becoming an Auror. It was like a weight rolled from your shoulders and heart. For the first time, in a long while, you were extremely happy. And you couldn’t help yourself but play a little joke on your friends. As soon as you stepped into the common room a bunch of questions hit you.
“How did it go?” yelled Remus
“Did you pass?” asked James
“Are we fulfilling our dreams?” questioned Sirius. You hold your poker face on, trying not to grin as crazy and tell them the good news. They were getting kinda worried by now and you finally decided that enough is enough.
“I got an E!!!!” you yelled with pure happiness heard in your voice. They all let out a sigh of relief, pulling you into a group hug joyful words coming out of each of them.
“We’re so proud of you, darling!” Remus announced.
“More than you can imagine.” added James. Sirius just smiled, that grin telling you all of what he wanted to say. You’re making your dreams come true.
~
The graduation took place about two weeks after. It was a little bit cloudy, but warm day. It was a perfect day. Not too hot, yet still enough to be in T-shirts. The students, including you, were all so excited. You’re finally leaving this school and going into the real world. Tho you were a little sad, giving the fact that you won’t see your friends so often. But all that matters is that you’ll stay a group. And that did not worry you. The happiness, radiating from your faces, could be seen from a mile away. It was all you ever wanted.
It’s over. You’re officially out of Hogwarts. Tho you still were in the yard where the graduation was, you were now drinking butterbeer and having a laugh with Marauders.
“Look who we have here.” said a voice. You could recognize it anywhere.
“Go away Bella!” you yelled without even turning around to look at her.
“Oh, rude are we today Y/N.” you had enough. No way this bitch is gonna ruin the day. It was too good.
“Look, Bellatrix,” you said “can you please leave us alone, it’s just such an amazing day.” you begged.
“Okay, but I have to do something first.” she pulled out her wand
“What are you doing Bella?” asked Sirius. You froze. You knew she was doing some nasty business for the Dark Lord, but you never expected you will be the target.
“I’m sorry Y/N. He said I have to prove myself to him.” she muttered an unknowing curse and it hit you in the stomach. First you thought nothing was happening. She did something wrong, you thought. But then you felt a sharp feeling in your stomach. It was like someone just stabbed you. The blood started pouring out of your belly and you collapsed to the floor. It was like everything was happening in slow motion. James ran up to you with the two boys right behind him. He put your head on his lap, Sirius and Remus both on your sides holding your hand.
“Y/N, you’ll be okay, stay awake for me!” yelled Sirius. All of them were crying, not knowing what to do. Many people said that when you’re about to die, the whole life repeats before your eyes. It wasn’t like that. All you could think of were your friends, crying over your body.
“Pl- please, don’t be too sad,” you whispered. “It’s okay. I made peace with death a long time ago.”
“No stay with me, please.” sobbed James. You knew you were about to die. It was true though, you were okay with it. But right before it happened, you felt a sudden wave of fear and it got the best of you.
“I don’t wanna go” you murmured as you bleed out in his arms.

Qui Totum Vult Totum Perdit (d.s.) - 15
A/N ...and a conclusion.
Warnings: This story is centered around a murder so there will be graphic descriptions of blood, death/manslaughter, dealing with corpses, possible domestic abuse (physical/verbal), crime/covering up a crime, shock/grief, and other possibly heavy or triggering topics. Please read at your own discretion.
I didn’t move for a moment, frozen in stiff shock. That couldn’t be true. Jonah had been helping me this whole time…coming over when I called and helping me leave the state…
I slowly tucked the papers into a neat stack with realization and turned casually out the passenger side window, trying to wrap my head around what I just pieced together. I hoped it wasn’t true. I prayed to whatever God above that it wasn’t true. I felt like I was going to be sick. My wife was dead in the trunk of my car and the hand who did it to her was driving me two states over on the run. There was nothing around us for miles so it’s not like I could run for help if I wanted to and even still…would I want to call the cops on my best friend? He didn’t when we thought it was me. But yet, everything he ever said to be the prior twenty-fours hours had been complete lies to set me up into believing this trap.
He had been all too calm.
Jonah sang softly from beside me, the music playing quietly through the car as we drove down the desert highway. He had his sunglasses on and his hat, shading his face from the sun and from me. I couldn’t look at him without wanting to be sick with dread.
“Jonah.” I finally spoke shakily.
“Yeah?” he answered innocently.
I kept my eyes out the side window, curling the corner of the letter under my finger nervously as I fought with myself to confront him. My leg was shaking and I pressed my hand down on my thigh to try and calm the habit. He turned down the music and I could feel him glancing over at me a few times before focusing back on the road. I took a small inhale before whispering to the window, “You did it, didn’t you? You killed her.”
There was a silence. A suffocating tense silence that pressed down on my chest until I swear I was going to choke. The music turned off and the only sounds for miles was the desert winds whooshing past the car. I closed my eyes tightly and resting my fist against my mouth in anticipation for his reply. His hesitation only made it worse.
“Tell me the truth, Jonah.” I ordered as strongly as I could but even I could hear my voice shaking. “What was this letter about?”
Jonah’s hands gripped tighter to the wheel and I heard him let out a strong sigh, “She just blocked my number.”
“Why did she block you?”
A pause.
“Jonah.”
“Because I was in love with her, bro.”
That certainly got my attention. I whipped my head around to look at him, eyes furrowed in his direction, “The fuck do you mean you were in love with her?”
“I loved her. And you were a shitty fucking husband, dude.” Jonah tisked. He adjusted the blue cap on his head, “I could have treated her so much better than you and I told her that but she didn’t like that.”
My eyebrows furrowed as I processed the information my best friend was telling me. I turned back out the window and watched the desert speed past us along the empty highway.
“But did you kill her?” I repeated my initial question.
There was a pause.
His silence was my answer.
“You did.” I breathed.
“Don’t freak out, okay?”
“Don’t freak out? Jonah, what the- what the fuck-”
Jonah huffed as if I was being a complete vexation. God, dear reader, I didn’t know what to think. I tried to form some sort of response, some sort of sentence to figure out why to did it but my lungs had abandoned me and I could only muster a few random panicked words.
“Why- I just- You- She- I- Why- Why did you- Oh my God- Jonah-”
The car slowed down as Jonah pulled onto the dusty dirt shoulder of the freeway. I glanced back at him as he put my car in park and got out, his jaw clenched stiffly and his face stone. I watched him step to the back door and he tugged his bag towards him before shuffling through it and right to the bottom. My chest was heaving with emotion and I swear I could hear my heartbeat pounding in my ears. Neither of us spoke.
And I especially didn’t when I saw the pistol he pulled from his bag.
He slammed the backdoor and walked around the car to my side, angling the gun right towards me through the window, “Get the fuck out.”
I froze.
“Get the fuck out of the car, Daniel.” Jonah repeated darkly.
My trembling hand found the handle and I stumbled out of the car and into the hot desert heat, the papers dropping to the floor of the car and the two cell phones and the denim jacket tumbling out onto the hot sand. The buzz of insects could be heard faintly in the distance between the dry patches of grass that dotted the landscape behind Jonah and beyond the paved highway. I raised my hands up slowly, not taking my eyes off my best friend and the gun in his hand.
“Jonah…” I spoke slowly, cautiously.
This had to be a fucking dream.
“I didn’t want it to come to this.” Jonah said darkly, his voice shaking with emotion.
“We can work something out.” I assured him quietly, now just trying to save my own life.
“Shut up.”
I swallowed thickly, eyes dropping to my cell phone that had fallen beside the feet in my haste to get out of the car.
“Don’t.” Jonah lunged forward and I gasped as he grabbed my arm and yanked me around so he was standing between the car and myself, giving me a shove away. His aggression made me stumble over my feet and the slight decline off the side of the highway shoulder and I fell backwards on the desert ground.
Have you ever joked around with your best friend about loving them so much you’d take a bullet for them? Cruelest twist of fate of my fucking life.
I stared up at Jonah from where I was splayed out on the ground, staring into the end of the pistol and the reflection of my own face in his sunglasses.
“I loved her.” Jonah said sharply. “I loved her more than you did.”
“Jonah…”
He cut me off, “I-I told her not to marry you! I told her you’re too in love with music to give a shit about her but she didn’t listen. I had to prove it to her so I sent you all that work to look over on your honeymoon. I’m not a fucking idiot, Daniel, I could have done it myself; but she had to see that you would put her second to your work if it came to it. Dumb woman didn’t even care. Not even when I met you at home after your flight and spoke to her in the studio that night and gave her all the proof that I loved her more than you.”
Jonah tisked distastefully and shook his head.
“You fought so loudly in there I could have sworn it was over…that you two were over…but she told me that she…that she loved you more than anyone in the whole goddamn world no matter what and I could never come close.”
I felt my chest tighten at that, tears choking me up in the back of my throat as he spoke of her last words and her last moments.
“We could have been happy together, she and I. I could have given her a nice fucking life. I fucking hated seeing her with you…especially seeing how fucking miserable you treated her. So I told her…if she didn’t want me, she couldn’t have anyone.” Jonah said through his teeth. “And she tried to run. And she set off the security alarm but I am the only other person outside of your family who knows the code to turn the alarm off and delete the tapes. It’s her birthday. Of course, I was going to remember her fucking birthday.”
I tensed at his confession, feeling the rough sand and heat of the desert burning through my skin and my clothes as I laid under his control.
“I knew where the knives were. I had this plan for weeks…ever since she first blocked my number before the wedding. She had one last chance to change her mind…to be happy with me and she blew it. And she begged for her life. And she cried for you. And I watched her sweet face fall into the hands of death like an angel.”
I couldn’t hold back the sob that fell from my lips.
“Then you came out. You heard her scream so you came to check on her but I couldn’t let you see me so in the shadows I knocked you out on the side of the piano and left you there, setting up the perfect scene to make it look like you did it with no traces of my own. No security camera tapes, no unfamiliar fingerprints, nothing. And I could have gotten away with it if you…if you weren’t so…so fucking persistent.”
The pistol was trembling in his fist, still directed right at my face.
“Jonah.” I breathed shakily.
“My name is still clear though. You’re the only one who they’re looking for right now, especially after you just told Corbyn she was dead…Jack knows too. The cops are probably tracing your phone right now. They’re probably on their way to lock you the fuck up right now.” Jonah licked his lips and took a breath, “But you’re gonna talk.”
“N-No I won’t.” I rushed out. “I swear I won’t. W-We can set up someone else…we can figure it out, Jonah, I promise.”
Jonah cocked the gun and I scrambled a bit farther back over the coarse sand, scraping my skin over the gravel in my futile attempt to get away.
“Jonah, please, bro, I swear I’ll help you. I-I forgive you-”
“I don’t need your forgiveness.” Jonah walked down the slight embankment to where I was dropped back over the ground and he stood right over me until the sun was blocked by his body and cast a shadow over me.
He was my best friend in the world, my business partner, and we had gone through most of our lives together but looking at him in that moment, I didn’t even recognise him.
“Jonah.” I spoke slowly, cautiously, licking my dry lips under the scorching heat of the desert sun. “Please, bro. Please…we can work something out, I swear.”
“Shut the fuck up, Seavey.” Jonah snapped loudly, his voice nearly echoing across the vast expanse of bare land around us. He dropped his volume as if he was convincing himself, “Fuck it. At least this way I’ll get your shares of the label and a clean slate.”
He was breathing hard as he moved closer and stepped on my hands to keep me from moving, the toe of his designer shoes pressing light indents into the back of my hands as he pushed them against the rough ground. I leaned away from him and the stare of the pistol habitually, praying for any sort of miracle. The freeway was perfectly empty and there wasn’t a car in sight but my own. There was no way out of this.
I let my gaze linger on the closed trunk, swallowing back the tears that threatened to fall at the image of her tucked up like a science experiment in the equipment case. The dust was burning my eyes but I didn’t doubt that the drop that finally trickled down my cheek was an honest heartbroken tear.
If she cried for me, I was going to cry for her too.
“What a Romeo and Juliet love story.” Jonah spoke, his voice dripping in taunting darkness, as he bent down slowly over top of me.
The cold metal of the mouth of the pistol touching my forehead instinctively made my eyes close tightly. The pumping of my heart echoed in my ears and the scorching desert sun dripped sweat down my brow to mix in with the salty perspiration of fear.
“Daniel Seavey killed his wife…” Jonah pressed it harder there, enough to make a whimper fall from my throat, “and then killed himself.”
What do you think of in your last moments? People often say you see your life flashing before your eyes or you see a bright light but, for me, all I saw was Avalon.
Nearly twenty-four hours since I found her. Nearly forty since she died on my studio floor alone and in fear. My world died that night and the only positive that I could possibly reach for was that at least I wouldn’t live in a universe without her for too long.
And yet, thrown there on the side of the freeway with my best friend holding a loaded gun to my head, all I could think about was her. I could hear her laugh and feel the warm of her skin and I couldn’t wait to see her again; to be able to stroke her soft hair and smell her sweet perfume and to be able to tell her how much I really did lov

The Dream of a Normal Life
by @cornytyrannosaurus
The fresh breeze of the Norwest lands scurred between the mountains, between the hills, beneath the trees, until it reached the nostrils of a young man inside a van which was stationed atop a hillside.
He breathed deep, filling his tired lungs with the soft breeze and all the scents it brought from every corner of the undying forest. His always hurried mind took this moment of serenity to fuel itself back to be awake, he already processing within his blurred thoughts all the duties of the day.
Mile 82, 54. Mile 21, 12 up to date. We go downhill until…
Then he opened his eyes, and the list stopped. He saw her, gently snoring in her sleep, her hands improvising a pillow. He smiled, recalling how annoying she could get when her hands felt sore; but what to do about it? She looked just too adorable right now to be awoken just for the sake of a mere slumbering formality. Her neon-stained, raggedy hair fitted with her purple sleeveless shirt, the only piece of cloth she was wearing in her sleep. He rolled his eyes down to her nude legs, remembering with heated fondness how much he made her to feel loved last night. Maybe he should put the blanket over such gorgeous sight, he thought. Unfortunate, but necessary.
Heavily, he put the brown blanket over her underside, to stop at her slightly inflated belly. His eyebrows dropped, reminding the main why of her needing to feel loved last night. She was having one of those delicate hormonal moments, a thing he took years to get accustomed and now was proving itself really useful during these uncertain times.
Uncertain, never better though.
He gave a quick kiss on her forehead, rolled his body around in search of his clothes, and hurriedly put his pants on.
He opened the backdoors, sat at the edge of the white van they lived in now, and took a long look at the immediate surroundings.
The gigantic mountains came across his sight like an unfathomable Leviathan welcoming his life with its majestic shape. Around him and all across the hillside, countless trees of all shapes and sizes covered the outline of horizon like a fortress for their tiny kingdom of intimacy and solitude. What he could give for them to have a tiny home where to start a family at a place like this, he could not tell but was certain in it.
Then he heard the growls coming from the trees, and he recalled they were just passing by.
A couple of man-sized hoofed monstrosities ran wild from between the depths of the forest, galloping over the concrete and disappearing behind another line of old pine trees. Their countless mouths filled with human-like crooked teeth, placed all across their headless, dark furry bodies, screeched continuously as they waved their long rat-like black tails at the fresh airs of the of morning.
Aaaaaaw f*ck.
Tagging eldritch creatures in a national park wasn’t precisely his dream job, but was quite within the spectrum of skills of the Mystery Twins, and as these non-euclidean beasts began to reproduce, they found themselves at a chance of getting a good source of income at the aftermath of events he didn’t want to remember right now.
If only his mind could listen to him to stop rerunning the horrible memory of that day.
Before sorrow had the chance to overtake his heart, he felt the warm of a pair of arms circling his tummy, a pair of legs caressing his, and a slightly inflated belly gently pressing his back. He smiled in relief; he hadn’t figured yet how she was able to slip across surfaces.
“Good morning, Dipdop” she murmured in his ear with seductive tone.
“’Morning, Mabes” he said back, turning his head to kiss her cheek, and then her lips, to go back to look at the hill.
“Why are yah awake so early? I wanted to spoon yah” She asked, squishing his belly with her arms”
“Dunno, just… wanted to start earlier today” He said with slow content.
“Before breakfast? You gotta be kiddin’ me” she said with pretended anger.
“You’ll never let me to skip it, will you?” He mustered with a grin.
“Nope, I won’t” She asserted. “Besides…” she said, as she squished her legs around his.
“Besides?”
“I’m still just in my shirt” she whispered at his ear. His grin grew bigger, as his sister slipped back from where she came and he rolled around to follow her.
“But what about the breakfast?” He asked with fake indignation.
“First this breakfast, then food breakfast”
“Mhmm, I like the plan…” He said as he closed the van’s door behind him.
It wasn’t the most conventional form of Love, nor the beginning of a normal life. But it was theirs to live , and they loved it anyway.
At least there, away from the unsuspecting and prejudiced eyes of the world, they were free.
If only the world could know the pain it could cause.
- Six months ago…
Mabel Pines had endured many terrifying moments in her life. When Dipper broke his leg at their kickboxing practice, when she was at the hands of a gigantic childish mechanoid, when her brother was about to be devoured by a living corpse, when she was about to be erased from existence by a extradimensional pyramid god, when she got lost in that trip to the unknown… but these immediate moments were heaving in her stomach more than any of that. Maybe it was because those moments were a little far in her memory, or because her resistance to cringe was absolutely superior to her brother’s. Or maybe it was because this time, the impending threat came from within her very own family.
And now she was frozen in place inside the van, watching how Dipper stood over the grass of the family home, his forehead bleeding and his face turning to their parents, his shape contrasted between the darkness of the night and the porch’s lamp.
Maybe they weren’t as angry and freaked out as they were an hour ago, but their resolution wasn’t something they were willing to accept. Right now, Mason “Dipper” Pines was standing against the destruction of his incoming family.
“Dipper, please… be reasonable. There is no way out of this” His father reassured, trying to appeal to his intellect, trying to undo the damage of the wound he had done to his own son. But Dipper had already cried, so the wound would stay a long time.
“No” Dipper pronounced in crackly voice.
His mother approached to him a couple of steps more, heartbroken for the glance of their own children at them. “Dipper, you’re not in your right mind, you don’t-”
“No, Mom!” Dipper yelled high. “We-we tried, we really really tried. But it didn’t matter how much we tried, how much we were honest with you. You didn’t listen, and you are still not listening. You look at us like if we were just a couple of f*cking monsters!”
“Dipper… You won’t be able to live a normal life with Mabel” His father told with serious tune. Again, they weren’t listening; again, they were mistaking their love for another crooked urge they needed to repress to have fulfilling lives. If only they knew.
“Well.. maybe we don’t want one!” Dipper finally shouted, turning around to walk aimlessly to his van.
Their parents only watched impotent how their beloved children drove away from home, and away from their lives…
“Mhm… so… I’ll want a French-Fry-Fantasy and a Slurpy Surprise” the young woman finally chose her meal options from between the short menu in the grease-stained paper sheet. It was kind of her personal politics about road restaurants to “choose the weirdest dishes in the menu or don’t say yourself worthy of a road trip”. The waitress with curly black hair and more freckles than space in the face to have them, could read for her bun hairstyle, her capri pants and her lots of laces and bracelets on her arms, that she was the extroverted and adventurous of them.
“I’ll want a pancake plate and a coffee, thanks” the man said instead. Judging by the old flannel coat and his black pants, he was the quiet one. The young waitress tried not to smile too much at the enormous contrast between their breakfast options, pondering in her mind how so alike persons could have such starkly different personalities. Anyhow, they made such a lovely couple, one of those who brighten the day of a service worker doomed to attend uncourteous people the rest of the day just like she was.
“Oh right, so a coffee cup, a Slurpy Surprise, a pancake plate and a French-Fry-Fantasy” The waitress repeated as the couple at the table nodded in agreement. “Ok, your order will be done in 10; anything else?”
“Nope, that’s all; thanks” he answered with kind tone.
“Okie dokie” The waitress said. “Oh! And congrats for your baby!” The waitress said before to leave.
“Owww thank you so much!” she said in joyful tune, making the waitress to enlarge her smile as she left to attend the order.
The young woman turned her attention back to her brother, moving over her seat with impatient joy. It was one of those days where the world seemed that friendly at them; after an inconceivable quantity of bad days in between, both had learned to appreciate them.
“Gosh I’m so hungry!” she exclaimed, enthusiastic at the edge of childishness.
“Yeaaah I kinda doubt ten minutes will be enough for your order” he asserted, resting his elbows on the table, looking out the window for a moment.
“Ooh, hush you there, bro-man! Have a little of faith in these peoples; they’re experts!” she dismissed.
“Experts in road restaurant dishes?” He asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Yep, I’m sure they attend to a special college for restaurant workers and stuff” she said with erudite-like pride.
“I did!” the old cook behind the bar yelled at their table with a stoic smile, raising his spatula. Maybe they were talking too high for a public place, but as they were currently the only customers it did not seem like it mattered at first. He usually would beg for her to slow down a little, due to the obvious need for them to conceal their true identities, but given the events of last night, he was simply happy to see her so free and being herself.
“You see? Road restaurant experts” She finally asserted as she raised her arms in a gesture of obviousness.
“Ok, I’ll eat my words along my pancakes” Dipper commented with an ironical smile.
“Yes you will, you will” She asserted, bopping his nose with the tip of her finger. Suddenly, she got aware the sorrow behind her brother’s eyes, and she worried. “What’s up, Dip?”
He paused for a couple of seconds in which his always hurried mind deliberated. She didn’t like unnecessary dramas, but she also liked him to be honest, as they had committed themselves to be. So after that instant that felt eternal, he spoke.
“Dunno, kinda… I know you’ll just tell me it was some kind of hormone rush or whatever but… I really…”
“Hey, it’s ok, Dip” she interrupted him, taking his hands with hers over the table. “I guess I was just… scared about the call Mom and Dad made and…”. For a moment, she thought she could express better by enacting, so she leaned across the space between them to rob him a deep kiss, to just after returning to her seat. “I want this, Dipper. I want all of this” She said, her eyes getting moisty.
“We’re just that crazy, aren’t we?” he asked with a moved smile. She was that fantastic and brave he couldn’t contain his love for her.
“And I couldn’t be happier for it” She asserted. He raised his hand to caress her cheek. Maybe it was the magical pregnacy hormones he had heard about in documentaries, or the strange and unnamed dimensions of their mutual love reacting again for a full catharsis potential, but she looked especially beautiful this morning, and (as energetically as he showed how much he loved her earlier at the van) she deserved to feel it. “To heck with a normal life” she cited from him as both just stared each other until the dishes were ready.
- Six months ago…
Dipper was quiet, as he had been all the way the long long time of driving lasted until the gas ran out near San Francisco Bay. He hadn’t said a word, nor even tried to clean his face of the blood; anyone with no idea of what really happened could have thought he was just coming out from a horror scene.
The unnerving silence was the exact kind Mabel recognized perfectly; she knew exactly what he was thinking and why he was thinking it. The waves of fear and regret and self-hatred and so many other things too deep to have a name. She let him have his inner battle, because Dipper Pines was the man of resolutions; but at some point she got aware he was just self-loathing again. Self-loathing for loving his sister in unexpected and strange ways she also felt. Self-loathing for stripping her dreams away just because he said he wanted to be with her and promising they would fight together whatever it would take. Self-loathing about the fact he actually accomplished his promise and now faced the true, palpable consequences of not having a plan this time. If he only had a plan, if he only…
“Dipper!” Mabel yelled at him, and he raised the head to look at her. His wound had closed enough for his blood over his face to dry a little, but the scar was still cutting his birthmark at half.
“I…”
“No. Don’t you ever dare to say you’re sorry about this. And you know what? It’s because this is not your fault, Dipper!”
“Bu-“
“But nothing, Dipper! It was Dad the one who punched you, it was Mom the one who pushed me, it was them the ones who wanted to… to wanted to…”; Mabel couldn’t even pronounce the fact that her own parents wanted to kill their unborn grandchild. “This is the part where I get all serious and say to you: We did everything we could. It didn’t work, eh? Well, we just move on and keep going forward! Because we have each other, just like we always had!” Mabel said, half crying, half smiling. Dipper smiled as well, because he knew it was true. He had saved the universe (now more than once), living in it was the least of the problems if they were that powerful together. At least, as powerful as their love was.
“To heck with a normal life” He said with trembling lips as they approached each other and kissed fiercely. Young? For sure. Inexperienced? As every young adult. Willing to face the full grasp of all the risks, the current perils, and unexpected tangents of becoming a wandering couple of roadside adventurers? As few souls in the whole Creation were.
-
It had been a tiring day. Some unseen thing had tried to eat his leg; some random stone had pierced a tire and they had to wait until a car stopped to help them and the muscled father of the family aided them to change the tire; they had tagged 328 adults and 58 younglings within the 36 nests across 28 hectares. Should they worry about the spreading of the hairy Lovecraftian monstrosities any further? Maybe, but first they should get some profit out of it. Now they were on their way to the next town, way far along the road.
For moments, they held hands together, staying in silence. For moments, Dipper changed the gear lever. For moments, they stopped so she could pee, as unceremonious as it was; pregnancy issues, she could recall very well. But they were in their way, announced by the gorgeousness of the sunset, sealed between unsaid promises coming from silent smiles. For moments, they talked as well.
“What are we gonna call our baby, Dips?” She interrupted the sound of the radio ballad songs.
“Hadn’t we agreed we were going to wait to know what our baby is to suggest names?”
“I knoooooow but I really wanna start having this solitary baby tummy-mommy chatter and I can’t just keep calling our baby ‘unnamed baby in fabrication’”.
He laughed wholeheartedly, as only she could make him laugh.
“Ok then, what if it’s a boy”.
“Weeeeeell I was thinking about Bob, or Steve, or Ronan!” She said in joy.
“Ronan? Heck no, that sounds too much. What about Connor?”
“Mhmm, I like Connor” she nodded. “Ok, so what if it’s a girl”
“Well, I kind of thought about Madeline, or Samantha, or Cassiopeia!”
“Do you really want to call our baby girl like a Greek tragedy?” she dismissed with a defiant smile.
“Ok ok, maybe it’s kinda preposterous. That’s a hard choice, Mabes”
“What about Mabel 2.0? Like Grenda!”
“I still want to figure out how names with numbers are allowed, by the way” he asserted.
“Eh, we’ll know when we reach New Jersey”
He smiled with hope. It was a still-in-process plan, but it was something they could have for sure. That, if the thing with the eldritch furry monsters didn’t grow for them to having to change it. They were going to land at New Jersey, where the grunkles would reach in some months to help them to acquire the old pawn shop they once lived in. It was a plan, and that’s the only thing they needed to know as they approached their destiny.
“We’ll make it, Dips” She reassured with a gentle glance.
“I know” He said back, as they drove deep within the endless road. Life was theirs to live, and that was everything that mattered.

enamel pins, school dances and summer movie nights

MASTERLIST
"I’m so glad that they’re still doing this. Keep calm. Carry on," Kiara said to the boys as she stuffed the change from their tickets back into her wallet.
It would have been an understatement to say that JJ and Pope hadn’t been eager to attend the outdoor movie night hosted by the Island Club. In fact, they'd spend thirty minutes listing all the things they would rather do when Kiara proposed the idea. She'd let them grumble about going for the better part of an hour since she knew there was no way the pogues would let her go to something on Figure Eight alone. Pogues always had each other's backs, always. Kiara figured the least she could do was pay their entry fee. Plus, she knew JJ and Pope didn't exactly have extra cash laying around for movie nights.
She would have dragged all three of the boys with her but John B hadn't been back to the chateau all day. Since the cell towers were still down thanks to the hurricane, she could only guess where he was.
"Welcome to the summer movie series. All proceeds go to...." The announcer's voice boomed over the loudspeakers as Kiara lead the boys to an empty space in the middle of the crowd.
"Back to OBX life. You know? Aren’t you guys glad that I made you come?" She really didn't have to ask, she was already sure of their answer.
"Ecstatic," Pope responded, his tone clearly lacking enthusiasm.
"My couch was pretty comfy, I’ll be honest," JJ echoed.
"We’re out of the green zone, man," Pope leaned over, commenting to JJ, out of earshot of Kiara. She didn't know about Topper's boat and Pope wasn't really interesting in bringing her in as another accessory to the crime.
"Dude, tranquilo, okay?" JJ whispered back.
"We're in the middle of Kooklandia. This is the last place I wanted to be."
"Shut up, Pope," JJ snapped, his wide eyes with warning. This was Kiara's thing, they weren't gonna let the Shakespearesque fued between Kooks and Pogues ruin her fun.
-
"Hey, uh…can I get two Pepsis, pleases?" Kiara asked the employee currently manning the snack bar.
"Sure," he replied.
Kiara slide the money for the sodas across the counter and took the cold drinks, watching Rafe slowly approaching from out of the corner of her eye.
"Hey, Kie," Rafe said. Kie felt her pulse spike at a nickname he'd originally given her. "Hey, what’s up? How are you?"
"I’m fine," she replied, intentionally angling her body away from him, her gaze resting anywhere but on him. For someone whose presence she uses to be able to relax in, now the sight of Rafe put her on edge.
"Good, good. Um...Tell your boy that we know what he did." Rafe held her stare and Kiara couldn't stop her lip from curling up in contempt.
"Sorry, what boy are you talking about?"
"Uh, he’ll know." Rafe smiled as if this conversation was bringing him some wicked sense of pleasure.
Rafe opened his mouth as to say something else but Kiara turned away from him. "Bye," he called to her as she walked away.
"Douche," Kiara said, loud enough that she was sure he would still hear her. She threw a glance over her shoulder, feeling Rafe's eyes still watching her.
-
Kiara handed Pope a Pepsi. "Just saw Rafe, and he said, and I quote, 'Tell your boy that we know what he did.' What is that?" She finished, handing JJ the second soda.
"Um...Where is he?" JJ asked back.
"Right there." Pope and JJ's heads turned around to look with her.
"Great the whole death squad," Pope said.
JJ grabbed the top of Pope's head, knocking his snapback off as he forced it forward. "Don’t stare, bro," JJ paused. "Just warning you, bro. If they corner me, I’m coming out swinging, okay?"
"Yeah, yeah," Pope agreed.
"Slice and dicin’. I’m on edge right now, okay? If that doesn’t work, I got this right here." JJ held up his worn backpack.
Fucking hell, Kiara thought. He brought the gun.
"Yeah, yeah. So, we just gotta stay in the group. They can’t come get us if we’re in the group," Pope remarked.
"Like a school of fish.”
"Stay in the school. Can’t leave the school. Stay in school," Pope repeated to himself.
"I’m sorry JJ…" Kiara interrupted. "Please tell me that you did not bring a gun here. JJ, there are kids."
"No Kie! I didn’t bring the gun. Everything’s fine, okay?" JJ assured, his frantic tone betraying him.
"Oh wow, thank you. That’s really convincing. I love that JJ." Kiara looked from JJ to Pope, trying to assess what kind of trouble they’d caused now. "Founding principle, you guys. No secrets amongst Pogues. What is Rafe talking about?"
Pope leaned it, bringing his face closer to Kiara's. "Kie, it might go down tonight."
"What does that mean?" Their vagueness was making Kiara extra suspicious. "'Might go down tonight.' What did y’all do?"
The boys look at each other, neither of supplying any answers to Kiara's questioning.
"Deny, deny, deny," JJ said quietly to Pope under his breath.
The opening score of The Addams Family cracked through the weathered speakers forcing an end to the conversation. A memory popped into Kiara’s head before she had time to stop it. This was Sarah Cameron’s favorite movie. Sarah used to mouth the lines along with the actors every time they watched it together.
There were a lot of glamorous parts of being best friends with the Kook-queen Sarah Cameron. When they walked down the shiny hallways of the Kook Academy literally arm-in-arm peoples' heads turned and watched them go by. All the mean girls with their once snarky remarks were suddenly complimenting Kiara's "unique style," begging her to tell them where she bought her clothes. (In truth, most of it was actaully thrifted since that was much more eco-friendly.) Plus there was the way Sarah swiped her Daddy's black card without a second thought. Kiara’s family lived on Figure Eight, they were a part of the Island Club but they would never have the kind of east coast old money the Cameron's had.
It wasn’t something Kiara usually minded. The whole money thing. Kiara never saw herself as less than because she didn’t wear a watch that cost as much as college tuition on her wrist. But it was more than that: Kiara never really saw herself as much of a Kook to begin. She didn’t want that lifestyle. She never had. It was her parents who pushed it on her. Her mom had grown up under the crystal chandeliers and ever-watchful eyes. She’d debuted into Outer Banks high society at the age of seventeen like every Kook at that age still did. An action which Kiara scoffed at. Her mom was fully prepared to be another success story of the ring-before-spring pipeline, returning to the Outer Banks after four years of college with an MRS degree and a husband who would be balding by his early forties.
But in a Hollywood-worthy meet-cute that involved one drunk sorority girl and her vodka-induced need for pancakes, Mike Carrera stumbled into Anna's life.
Mike Carrera was the opposite of Anna in every way that counted. His whole life had been hard work and grit, fighting for the things that were rightfully his and taking them when people still refused to hand them over. He had a pipe dream of owning his own restaurant, a borderline fantasy that he was dead-set on making sure came true. Anna loved him and he loved her right back. They eloped to Vegas the week after graduation even though own Anna’s mother was halfway through planning the wedding. They bought cheap rings and a second-hand dress since they were still living paycheck to paycheck. Though the bright lights of Vegas had made the impromptu wedding seem a bit more glamorous than it really was, they both knew deep down their love was the real thing. They promised each other till death do us part and meant it.
When Anna found out she was pregnant, she talked Mike into going back to the Outer Bank. Anna swore up and down the move was only so her parents could help with the baby. They'd live on the cut, work for what they deserved and be happy. Then Anna's parents bought them a house on Figure Eight as a wedding gift and Sunday dinners at the Island club became protocol. Anna slipped back into her life as a Kook and brought Mike with her. When the restaurant turned into the tourist hot spot, the zeros in their bank accounts started growing. The Carrera's got rich but their money could never compete with the trust-fond generational wealth of their fellow Kooks.
The Outer Banks only had one elementary school. All the kids on the island were thrown together at an age where no one yet realized the lines between the haves and have nots. Fifth grade was when it got messy. Every fall the class size heading to the Kildare County Middle School dropped by half when all the Kooks transferred to St. Andrews “Kook” Academy. A breeding ground for Ivy-league-bound eighteen-year-olds who lived with the cushions of their parents' bank accounts.
Kiara begged her parents not to make her go to the Kook Academy. She would have rather died than leave her best friends, Bea and Joey, who were both Pogues and staying at KDMS. She didn't realize that middle school would rip the three of them apart. By eighth grade, Kiara had her new friends. Pope Heyward, John B. and JJ Maybank, but he still went by Junior back then. Even if they were bothered by Kiara's status as half-Kook, in the same way Bea and Joey had been, they never showed it.
Mike and Anna didn't see the need to send Kiara to St. Andrews if she didn't want to go but as high school inched closed with every year, the whispers about the Kook in public school grew louder. The summer before freshman year, her parents offered her a deal - though it was hardly a fair one in Kiara's mind. She could either stay at Kildare County High School but she'd have to work in the restaurant in her free time or she could go to St. Andrews with complete freedom for a year. Kiara knew her parents wanted her to transfer so she caved and agreed to a year at St. Andrews to make them happy. Anna prayed her daughter would find her people at St. Andrews and that one year would turn into four but Kiara knew she had already found her people and was counting down the days till she could go back to them. It was only when Sarah Cameron decided the new girl might be cool that Kiara stopped marking each passing day with a big red x.
-
There was less than a week left in their Christmas break and Kiara was seated across from Sarah at the Cameron's dining room table bent over her practice problems for Mr. Harrings' freshman science. He infamously gave out the hardest pop quiz of the year the first day back after break and Kiara's grade couldn't take her failing it.
"What’s avocado’s number?” Sarah asked, looking up from her paper, her pen frozen in midair.
“What’s what?” said Kiara, thoroughly confused at Sarah’s question.
“You know,” Sarah paused, scanning Kiara’s face for any sign of understanding. “Avogadro’s number. Some kid in my class thought the dude’s name was avocado so we’ve been calling it avocado’s number since.”
“Ah, Avogadro’s number,” Kiara repeated, shifting her papers around until she found the one with all the formulas and constants written on it. “Six point zero two two one four zero seven six times ten to the twenty-second power.”
Sarah punched the numbers into her calculator. “Thanks, babes.”
“Of course.”
Rafe’s heavy footsteps carried through the Cameron’s massive house announcing his arrival home. He strolled into the room, a thick stack of papers in one hand and a garment bag draped over the opposite arm.
“Hey loser,” Sarah said, not inspired enough by her brother's presence to look up from her work.
“Hi Rafe,” Kiara echoed. "Where you been?"
"Being Ward's errand boy. I forgot the key to his office where I was supposed to drop off this contract so he's gonna kill me for that. But," Rafe paused digging into his pocket and pulling out a small velvet pouch. "Merry late Christmas," he finished, handing the bag to Kie. "I saw it and I thought you'd like it."
Kiara reached into the pouch pulling out a small enamel pin of the earth, shaped into a heart with the word "love" in silver written over it. Kie smoothed her thumb over the cold metal.
"You know since you're gonna save the planet and everything," Rafe added.
"Thank you. I love it!" Kiara jumped up from her chair, throwing her arms around his waist wrapping him a hug.
"No problem, Kie." Rafe said.
"Hey, I'm trying to save our planet too." Sarah pipped up.
"Shut up, Sarah," Rafe cracked. "I gave you your Christmas present last week."
Sarah stuck her tongue out at him, Rafe doing the same in return.
"What are you guys working on?" Rafe asked.
"Science," Kiara replied, reaching down to grab her backpack from underneath the table.
"Is that for Mr. Harrings' class?"
"Yeah. Yeah, it is," Kie said, half distracting by trying to decide which spot to put her new pin in.
"I think I might still have my old test from that class if you want them.”
Sarah's head snapped up at the offer. "No way."
"Sound any more surprised, Sarah. I was offering them to Kiara anyway, snob," Rafe shot back.
"I'll share," Kie assured her best friend.
Kiara followed Rafe up the grand staircase, flopping on Rafe's bed while he searched for his old work.
"Henry Spiegel was talking about taking you to a he formal in the locker room before we left for break," Rade relied from inside his closet.
"Isn't he the freshman who made varsity lacrosse?" Kiara asked back. She contemplated the idea of going to St. Andrews' Winter Formal with him. Henry was nice enough, plus he was pretty good-looking. She could stand going with him.
"I told him if I found out he'd asked you, I'd make sure he missed the next three games because of a black eye."
"Rafe."
"What? Do you really think I'm gonna let some dweeb with half a brain who only wants to get in your pants take my little sisters to formal?"
"Who am I supposed to take?” She shot back.
“I don’t know. Not him,” Rafe said, emerging, a small stack of papers in hand.
“You know Denny asked Sarah last week.”
“I know.”
Kiara paused, “You will you take?”
Rafe shrugged. “Doesn’t matter. Maybe Ashely M. Seniors don’t really go to the actual dance.”
Kie took the pages of old test for Rafe’s outstretched arm and riffled through them. His name was scribbled on the top of each one in his messy handwriting.
Her eyes drifted up to the Duke basketball poster in the corner of Rafe’s room.
“When do you hear from them?” Kie asked.
“March,” said Rafe, his voice void of emotion.
“I know you’ll get in.”
"My dad'll make sure of it.” Rafe sat down on the bed next to Kiara.
“You don’t know that.”
“I found a card addressed to Ward from the Dean of Student last week thanking him for 'the generous donation from such a valued alumni.'”
Kie's head dropped to rest on Rafe’s shoulder. “I’m sorry.”
“Yeah, well he’s a dick.” Rafe’s phone buzzed and he pulled it out of his pocket, reading the text on the screen. “I gotta go. I told the boys we’d go hit at the Club tonight.”
“Thanks again for these.” Kie held up the papers. “And for the pin," she added.
“Mr. Harrings always includes the names of the scientists from the unit as bonus questions. Don’t forget to look those up,” Rafe said as he stood up from the bed. "See you around, Kie." He placed a small protective kiss on her forehead before he headed back downstairs.

"JJ?" Pope slapped JJ's shin to get his attention.
"What?" JJ whispered back over the sounds of the movie.
"I gotta take a piss.”
"Hold it."
"I can’t hold it. I drank too much soda."
"It’s too exposed. They’ll totally see us."
"I gotta go," Pope pleaded. He peered behind him to see Rafe, Topper, and Kelce still parked in the same spots at the back of the crowd. "They’re blocking the bathrooms," Pope added.
JJ looked around, thinking up a Plan B. "Alright. Come here. I know where.”
"Hey, where y’all going?" Kiara asked, turning her attention away from the movie.
"We gotta wring it out," JJ responded deadpan.
"What? You gonna hold it for each other," Kiara questioned, disgusted at the thought.
JJ shrugged off the comment and lead Pope through the crowd, the two of them ducking behind a large oak tree.
Kiara turned back to the movie playing on the giant screen, leaving the boys to their own devices. Besides, they wouldn't dare start something with all the people around. They were idiots but they knew better than that.
"Crap," Kiara cursed under her breath when Rafe trailed by Topper and Kelce brushed by her, heading in the same direction Pope and JJ had went. She watched their figures disappear behind the screen before she jumped up from her seat.
JJ's gun, the thought flew her mind.
She picked up his backpack with no intention to use it but better safe than sorry. Especially when it came to those Kooks in particular.
"Hey, kick his ass, Top!" Kiara heard Rafe yell as she rounded the corner.
Kiara felt a full-fledged panic run through her body as she took in the sight. Kelce had pinned JJ's arm behind his back and was Rafe pounded his fist into JJ’s face. A foot away, Pope was barely holding off Topper. Whatever Pope and JJ had done had obviously crossed a line.
Kiara ran in without another thought, swinging JJ's backpack in front of her. "Let go of him, Topper! Fascist asshole!" She screamed at him.
Topper grabbed the bag from her, ripping it out of Kiara's hand and throwing it aside. Kiara jumped on Topper's back, desperate to distract him.
"Hey listen, Pope," Topper yelled over the sounds of the movie. "All you gotta do is accept a little personal responsibility."
"Screw you, kook," Pope spit back.
Kiara felt arms wrap around her waist, yanking her off of Topper. The too-familiar scents of Rafe's cologne filled her nose and his breath was hot on her cheek.
She kicked her legs struggling against him, "Let go of me, Rafe."
"Stay out of this, Kiara," he warned, tossing her onto the ground. His gaze fixed on her for a second before turning away. Kiara swore she saw a look of guilt flash across Rafe's face, wordlessly apologizing for tossing her away so harshly but she didn’t have time to think about that while her boys were still in trouble.
"Kie! You okay?" Pope yelled, struggling against Topper who had wrapped his arm around Pope's neck.
"Come on, man. Just admit it," Topper shouted. "Admit you did it, bitch!"
JJ's backpack had conveniently landed close to where Kiara lay. She rolled over, pushing herself onto her knees and crawling over to the backpack. She riffled through it, her hand landing on the cold mental of the gun.
"You don't mess with me, Pogue! You hear me?" Topper continued. Kiara looked up at Topper's face which showed no signs of mercy. Meanwhile, Rafe's fist smashed into JJ's face again and again. The situation was getting worse by the second. “I'm gonna give you one chance. One chance, Pope. One chance. Come on! One!"
Kiara dropped the gun back into the backpack pulling out JJ's lighter instead, two Js craved onto the surface. She had to go big to stop Rafe, Topper and Kelce. Kiara crawled over to the edge of the sheet the movie was being projected off. Fuck, this has to work.
"Finish him off, Top!" Rafe directed.
Kie flicked on the lighter, the wind blowing out the flame the first few times. Her hands were shaking as she grabbed the edge of the sheet and held the blue flame up to it. The fire lit up her face as it took hold, spreading faster than she had expected. The crowd yelped, scrambling away as the orange flames climbed toward the sky.
"Guys! Fire!" Rafe yelled, taking in the sight.
"Get off of him!" Kie pushed Topper away from Pope who fell to the ground gasping for air. "Kelce, let go of JJ!"
"Let's get out of here," Rafe started, fleeing the scene. The other Kooks not far behind him.
"You good?" Kiara asked Pope helping him off the ground. "We're okay." She assured. Her heart was racing, her hands still shaking.
"You're a freakin' idiot," Pope responded.
"I saved your ass. Come on." Kiara threw her arm around Pope's shoulder, leading him away.
The sounds of the film continued to echo over the speakers as the sheet burned to ash behind them.
-
Kiara sat slumped against the wall of the St. Andrews hallway that lead into the cafeteria. The frill of her $200 dress fanned out around her. The dress, in her opinion, had been a colossal waste of money but had Sarah actually squealed when Kiara walked out of the fitting room in it. Kiara had tugged at the awkward way the skirt st on her hips but Sarah wouldn’t shut up about how perfectly the blue color fit the Winter Wonderland theme so Kiara bought it. Now, the sequins itching against her collarbone were just annoying her and Kiara couldn’t help scratching at them, making the already red marks on her skin even angrier. She was so fucked. Denny had pulled out a flash during pictures and somehow it kept ending up in Kiara's hands. The whole dance thing had Kiara incredibly anxious so she kept taking sips of the flash to keep her self busy. First during pictures, then during dinner, and in the limo on the way to the school. Now the flask was lying empty on the floor next to her and her nerves were no less settled.
She longed for her pogues so much the pain of missing them made her stomach hurt. Well, that or the alcohol. At that moment, she would have given anything to be back with them. Back with Pope and his overly nervous tendencies, back with John B. and his ideas that usually lead them into trouble, back with JJ and his flirtatious banter that left her blushing a lot more than she cared to admit. They were her family, where she belonged. Not in the gated communities of Figure Eight with mansions so big they had rooms no one entered for weeks. This whole year had been a mistake. She couldn't stand the fakeness of everybody and everything that came as a side effect to bank accounts with the kind of zeros that could seriously help if the 1% gave up being so selfish. Even Sarah's save-the-sea-turtles-with-men façade was fading away revealing another rich kid who didn’t give a shit about who she hurt.
The doors of the cafeteria swung open, the bass of the DJ's music filling the previously silent hallway. Kiara looked up to find Rafe jogging down the hall to her.
"What are you doing out here?" He asked, sliding down the way to sit next to her.
"The room kept spinning and...uh...I thought I might throw up so I went to find a bathroom," Kiara answered.
"You know the bathrooms are on the other side of the school?"
Kiara giggled which turned into a little burb which made her giggle even more.
"Jesus, Kiara. How drunk are you?" Rafe picked up the flask from the ground. He could smell the alcohol on her breath without even getting closer over. “Who's is this?"
Kiara paused for a moment, trying to remember. "Denny's."
"Sarah's date, Denny?"
Kiara nodded her head.
"Fuck," Rafe muttered. "Okay, let's get you out of here before any of the chaperons see and write you up." He stood up and held out both hands to held Kiara to her feet too.
Kiara pulled herself, leaning against Rafe for stability. The doors swung open again and Rafe's date marched into the hallway.
"Ugh, thank God. There you are. This dance is so lame. C'mon, we're all going to Joey's."
"I'm not coming. I have to take my sister home. She's totally trashed."
The girl's eyes moved over Rafe's face, landing on Kiara. "No," she corrected. "You're my date. You have to come with me."
"Did you not just hear me? I'm taking my sister home," Rafe replied.
"Are you kidding me? She's not even your real sister. She's hardly even a real Kook. I bet she's just using Sarah and you for your family's money. Just look at her dress. It's the same one every other wannabe trying-to-hard freshman has on. Pathetic."
Rafe pulled Kiara closer into him, wrapping an arm around her shoulder protectively. "You can fucking leave," Rafe spit back. "I don't wanna hear you ever talk about my family like that again."
The girl rolled her eyes. "Whatever. I was gonna hook up with Brandan tonight anyway. He's way hotter than you." She spun on her, stalking off in the same direction she had come.
Kiara looked up at Rafe, her bottom lip shaking as tears welled in her eyes. "Are you mad at me?" She asked.
Rafe laughed. "Of course not, Kie. Ashley can go fuck herself. Or she can go fuck Brandan. I don't really care." He wiped away the tear that had slide down Kiara's cheek. "Let's go find Sarah so I can take you both home."
-
Sarah was sitting on her date's lap back inside the cafeteria turned South Pole for the night, laughing loud enough at Denny’s shitty jokes that it was throughly annoying everyone around her.
"Get up Sarah," Rafe commanded.
Sarah surprised at Rafe's sudden presence scrambled off her date's lap. Rafe reached down and grabbed a fistful of Denny's shirt. He cocked his arm back and swung his fist straight into Denny's nose which gave a definitive crack on impact. Sarah let out a gasp and rushed forward.
"What the fuck?" She screamed at Rafe, shoving him off her date.
"You're date's an ass. Kie's completed wasted thanks to him" he said to Sarah. "Let's go. I'm taking you both home."
Sarah glanced at Kiara, who was standing slightly behind Rafe feeling both embarrassed at how much she had drank and grateful for Rafe's protectiveness.
"But I wanna go to the afterparty," Sarah protested. "She has you." Sarah's eyes locked with Kiara and Kiara's heart sank. She could tell her "best friend" wasn't about to give up the rest of her night just because she was nervous and had drunk too much.
Kiara shifted awkwardly on her feet. Sarah could have a least pretended to be conflicted, considered missing the party for a second. God, Kiara missed the unwavering faithfulness of her pogues.
Kiara tugged on Rafe's hand and he glanced over his shoulder at her. "It's fine," she slurred. She really needed out of this itchy disaster of dress as soon as possible.
"You're a really great friend," Rafe said to Sarah.
"Whatever," Sarah replied, her voice almost mimicking the way Rafe's date had said the same words. "Let's go find some ice for your nose, Denny."

They had found the gold. It was fifty feet down a well under an ax-murders house no less but they'd fucking found it. John B's crazy plan had worked and all they needed to do was get the gold out, a job which had effectively been delegated to Pope. Of course, first they had to wait for John B to get back from his fishing trip with Ward Cameron, some twisted form of pseudo father-son bonding. What was it with men and finishing? Couldn’t they pick a sport that didn’t actively destroy the environment?
Pope sat atop the kitchen counter, a pencil tucked behind his ear, his mouth moving as he made silent calculations. JJ stood in the doorway of the chateau, dripping water from the hot tub onto the floor. Kiara had thrown off the couch cushions and was rifling through the desk draws, slamming each one with frustration when they didn't hold what she was looking for. Kiara noticed this morning that a pin was missing from her backpack. It didn’t seem like a big deal but with every passing second her panic escalated.
“What are you looking for, bro? I swear this house is like one of those Where’s Waldo? books.” JJ asked Kiara.
“Did you just make a reference to a book, JJ?” Pope chimed in from across the room.
“Just because I chose not to read, doesn’t mean I can’t Pope,” JJ replied.
“Both of you are idiots. It’s a picture book anyway, you don't read it. Can you help me find my pin, please? It's the one I've always had on my backpack. The earth, shaped like a heart," Kie explained.
"Right," Pope replied, sliding off the counter where he was sitting. “Why do you care about it so much anyway?”
“It was a gift."
“From who?”
“From someone at the Kook Academy.”
“Sarah?”
“No.”
“You had other friends there?” JJ mocked.
Kie hesitated. “Fine, it was actually from Rafe as a Christmas present.”
JJ and Pope automatically stopped and looked up at each other.
“Bro, please tell me this isn’t the same Rafe who almost beat Pope’s face in last week."
“It’s not about Rafe. It’s about the pin,” Kie said.
“That’s from Rafe,” Pope finished.
“You guys weren’t there. You don’t get it. Whatever," she huffed. “Don’t help me find it then.”
“No, please Kie. Enlighten us," the sarcasm dripped off JJ's voice.
“I said you don’t have to help,” Kie repeated.
“Hey Kiara,” Pope said, grabbing her wrist. He was always the first to tell when something was off with her.
Kiara shrugged him off, wiping away her tears with her tshirt hem before the other pogues saw them.
“There was just this time,” she started, still overturning books like the pin might have been under there. “At a dance. This senior called me a fake Kook. She said my dress looked tacky like I was trying way too hard to fit but I would never fit in because I’d always be a fucking Pogue. Which of course I don’t wanna be a Kook, I was just playing dress-up for the year to please my parents and it’s like she saw straight through. Rafe was there. Like an older brother. Told her to go fuck herself. That if she ever talked about me like that again, he’d tell the whole she had an std.” Kie paused to wipe her runny nose. “He was basically my family so when Sarah dropped me like I was nothing I was sure that meant Rafe didn’t think I was worth his time anymore too. I never reached out to him again and now he just looks at me the same way he looks at every other Pogue.”
Pope cleared his throat, clearly mildly uncomfortable with Kiara’s sudden expression of emotion. It was an almost unspoken rule among the four of them that they didn’t talk about Kie’s kook year. It had sucked, bottom line. She’d shown back up the summer after ninth grade and it was the four of them again just like middle school. No one had the guts to ask about anything that had happened that year so it never got brought up.
JJ couldn't stop himself from remembering what Rafe had said at Midsummers. Tell Kiara she looks pretty hot for a Pogue. Fucking jackass. If he'd been like a brother to Kie, of course he'd know just how to hit her where it hurt.
JJ clinched his fist, wishing security hadn't pulled him away before he'd gotten a chance to swing at Rafe that night. “I still hate him,” JJ announced. “The entire Cameron family thinks they're the shit because they eat from golden spoons or something."
"The expression is born with a silver spoon in their mouth but JJ's right. All Kook’s suck," Pope added.

Rafe had wrestled off Kiara's heels after she almost face-planted in the school parking lot on the way to Rafe's truck thanks to them. He'd gotten up her all the back to the Cameron's house and in the front door successfully without her throwing up. Rafe tried to get Kiara to walk up the stairs but she'd sat down on the bottom declaring she would just sleep there so Rafe had delicately thrown her over his shoulder and didn't put her down until he dropped her on Sarah's bed.
Kiara closed her eye instantly and hummed softly, pleased with the comfortable spot she'd landed.
"No sleeping yet. You gotta drink some water first. Hold on."
Rafe dashed across the hall to his own room and grabbed the bottle of ibuprofen from his bathroom for Kiara in the morning. He also snatched the half-drunk water off his nightstand. It wasn't the best option but it was something.
"Okay, okay. Sit up," he said to Kiara, setting the water and medicine down on the bedside table.
Kiara grumbled but pushed herself upright until her back was against the headboard.
"I'm so happy you're my big bro," she said, reaching out her hand to tousle Rafe's hair. "It's always just been my mom and dad and me. And my turtle, Leo, before I lost him." Kiara felt tears wetting her cheeks again at the thought of her lost pet. "I just thought he might wanna play in the yard but then he ran off." The crying made Kiara hiccup which made her cry even more. "He ran off, Rafe. Turles aren't supposed to be fast.”
Rafe couldn't stop himself from laughing. "I didn't peg you as a sad drunk," he said, putting a hand on Kiara's shoulder to calm her down. "It's okay, Kie. I'm sure Leo is just fine."
Her sniffles stopped momentarily and she looked up at Rafe through her tear-soaked eyelashes. “You know no one ever called me Kie before you did. Now everyone does."
Rafe chuckled. "Alright, drink some water and you can sleep."
Kiara accepted the water bottle and pressed it to her lips, taking a swig. "You promise you're not mad at me? About Ashely and the dance?"
"I promise, Kie. I'd much rather make you sure you're okay."
"You're getting soft, Rafe," Kiara teased as she snuggled herself under the sheets.
"Never," he replied, reaching over and clicking off the lamp on the bedside table before he stood up. "Hollar if you think you're gonna throw up."
"Never," Kie repeated, giggling to herself as Rafe left the room, pulling the door closed behind him.

John B's face was plastered on wanted posters up and down the island. The entire county was looking for him, desperate to be the first to claim the twenty-five thousand dollar reward. The wholesome treasure hunt John B. has advertised to the Pogues at the beginning of the summer had gone way south, like equator-level south. None of them had eaten a decent meals in days, much less slept more than few hours. The whole thing was taking its toll but the stacks were too high for them to slip up now. They all knew the odds. John B's word would never stand against Ward's. They had to get him off the island.
JJ and Kiara pulled up the boatyard, the keys to the Phantom clutched so tightly in JJ's palm that they left little indentions. He'd emerged from his house, his jaw set and only held up the keys in response to Kiara asking how it went so she decided not to push him on it.
JJ shoved open the rusty metal door of the garage. "There she be. Hey, girl," he remarked. "1983 formula four-oh-two SR1." JJ pulled the sheet covering the boat off, the sunlight streaming in through the windows making the dust lingering in the air visible. "The Phantom," JJ announced proudly.
"Mmhm," Kie hummed.
"First boat to make the run to Bermuda in under sixteen hours, Kie," JJ paused. "Forty years old! Forty. And it's still the fastest thing that Kildare's ever seen."
"It's kind of a junker."
"Really?" JJ turned to her. "She's right there, Kie. She can hear you. Let's just put it this way. You would not be smokin' weed right now if she never existed, okay?"
"I just hope it runs," Kie replied.
"Oh, no, she'll run alright. She's faster than any of the cutters the boy in blue got."
The sounds of motorcycle engines roared from outside the garage.
"Pope. Finally," Kie exclaimed, jogging to meet him. Hopefully, the Outer Banks sun had burned off any weirdness still lingering from this morning, she prayed.
Rafe appeared from behind the boat and Kiara stopped suddenly, not expecting the sight of him.
"Hey, there. What's goin' on? JJ?" Rafe said and JJ also froze at the sound of the eldest Cameron's voice. "How you guys doin'?”
Barry whistled, announcing his own arrival. "Well, well...." The sounds of a gun cocking send the blood rushing to Kie's ears. JJ raised his hands in the air, backing up as Barry pushed the gun to his chest. "See, don't think I forgot about me and you on the side of the road. I'm here because I want my motheruckin' money."
Barry grabbed the side of JJ's face, shoving him to the ground. "JJ! JJ!" Kie screamed as Rafe pulled her back from the scene. "Rafe!" Kiara struggled against Rafe’s taller and stronger physique.
"That's what I'm here for, ain't it," Barry shouted lifting JJ's head up by his hair.
"It's not you we want, Kie. Alright, Where's John B?" Rafe asked.
"I don't know," she screamed back, her hand slapping Rafe's face on instinct.
"I really wish you didn't do that.”
"Look, I know what you did.” Kie’s voice wavered.
"What? What'd I do?" Rafe's face inched closer to hers.
"You murdered Peterkin."
Rafe's hand flew up to Kiara's throat, wrapping his fingers tight around it. Kiara's mouth fell open in a silent scream as she clawed at his hand. "Don't you ever say those fucking words again," Rafe warned.
"Rafe," Kiara pleaded. Eighteen months later and Kiara could tell Rafe didn’t have a single ounce of warmth left for her. The Rafe that had protected her from handsy freshman boys and made her drink water so her hangover wasn't as bad, the Rafe that had once held a deep sibling-like affection for her was gone, replaced by someone with pure blinding disdain for pogues of any kind.
"Understood? Do you understand? Where's John B? Where's John B?" Rafe asked again, his tone growing impatient
"I don't know," Kie yelled. Rafe’s hand was growing tighter around her throat with every word, forcing tears to her eyes. Fuck this. Rafe Cameron wasn’t about to be the thing that killed her. This rich, white asshole couldn’t get away with two murders.
"Where's John B? Huh?"
"I don't know! I don't know!"
Rafe's hand fell away from her throat suddenly. "Don't touch her," Kiara heard Pope screamed, his voice full of rage as he swung a metal pole into Rafe's back. The look on his face was something Kiara had never seen before from Pope. It sent a chill down her spine.
"Hey!" Barry yelled as he attempted to throw his gun to Rafe but it landed on the ground a few feet short.
"Kie! Kick it!" JJ hollered and the gun disappeared under the boat out of reach.
JJ picked up Barry slamming him into the boat. Pope's fist continued to connect with Rafe’s face. Again and again. Crap, he wasn’t stopping.
"Pope," Kie said. "Okay, Pope. Pope! Pope, that's good! Stop!"
JJ, having thrown Barry aside, moved to pull Pope off Rafe. "Hey, Pope! He's had enough, dude."
"He's good." Kie pleaded as Pope reached for a piece of plastic tubing, pulling it tight around Rafe's neck.
"Snap out of it, man. Snap out of it, dude!" JJ said.
"Pope!" Kie yelled again. "Pope, that's too much!"
"Stop, dude," JJ added. "Dude, cmon! Stop! Stop, dude!"
"Pope! Get off!" Kie desperately tried to make eye contact with him
"Let go! Come on!"
"Look at me!" Kie screamed in one final attempt to stop Pope from going to far. Rafe's face was already turning a concerning shade of red. If Pope crossed this line, Kiara feared there would be no coming back. She already had one fugitive to deal with, she didn’t want another.
Pope dropped the tubing, eyes wide with fear.
"Shit. Oh, shit." JJ said.
Rafe coughed from the floor, blood smeared down his chin.
"Okay, we gotta go. We gotta go." Kiara announced, hustling back the car. They had to get the boat ready for John B. They had to get him off the island. Her Pope-like organizational instincts kicked in protecting her from processing anything that had just happened. Letting her forget the look in Rafe’s eyes as his hand closed around her throat. Three o’clock at the dump. They had to stay on schedule. Three o’clock. Three o’clock. Three o’clock.

The single yellow heart Sarah had responded to Kiara's ‘Happy Birthday!’ text with stared back at her mockingly. She closed out of her messages, opening Instagram instead. Story after story showed the party she hadn't been invited to. A shaky video of everyone singing to Sarah, her face lit up by the glow of the candles. A bathroom selfie of all the girls who Kiara had through became her closest friends, their faces flushed red with joy. She clicked the side button of her iphone making the screen going black. Kiara couldn't stand to look at it all happening for another minute. She flopped backward on her bed opting to stare at the plain, white ceilings of her bedroom instead.
She should have been, standing by Sarah's side, smiling along with everyone in a tipsy haze of happiness, not watching it happen via Instagram. Kiara knew she wasn't doing anything productive by throwing herself a pity party but God, she was pissed. She wanted Sarah to know it too. She picked up her phone from where she'd dropped it next to her on the comforter.
The line rang twice before a voice answered the call.
“Kildare County Police, what’s the emergency?”
Kiara hesitated. Sarah was sure to figure out it was her who had ratted on the party and that would be social suicide enough. But Sarah really had brought this on herself. She should have invited to Kie to her fucking birthday.
“Hello? Anyone there?” The operator asked.
Kiara brought the phone back up to her ear. “Hi, I’d like to file a noise complaint, please. Two six six St. Margaret Street.”
“Yes, the Cameron’s house,” Kiara confirmed, wiping at her tear-stained cheeks and steading her voice as she relied the rest of the information to the operator.
Happy birthday to you, Sarah Cameron.

"Will you be my wife?"
HEELLOO GUYS 👋🏻
Here I am again. I was inspired by the videos about such situations. I am not completely enthusiastic about the story but unfortunately I didn’t know anything to improve it. Blackout. Maybe make a remake of it someday, I hope you like it anyway and excuse the mistakes.
And many thanks to all who follow me! Much love for each of you🥺❤️

"I don’t believe it, I married Richy" Jessy squeals, looking at Richy sitting at a table with his boys.
You, Jessy, Cleo, Hannah, Lilly and two other friends of Jessy are standing on the dance floor.
"Well, I thought you were marrying Dan" Hannah giggles.
"No, Dan and I just don’t fit together, my heart beats for Richy" Jessy raves again.
"Didn’t you want to throw bridal bouquet?" asks Cleo.
"OH, YES TRUE" calls the new bride and runs to the DJ to steal the microphone.
Shortly thereafter, her voice echoes through the loudspeakers.
"My dear female guests, all unmarried girls, stand up, I am now throwing the bouquet."
Some start to cheer and come immediately on the dance floor.
I’m being pulled straight into the front row by Hannah.
"No, I wanted to be right in the middle of them all" you murmur, you don’t think much of these customs. Half of Duskwood was invited to the wedding.
A moment later, almost all the women are standing in the middle and Jessy is standing 3 meters in front.
"Marry You by Bruno Mars- starts playing.
"Cliché" you think with a grin.
You haven’t even looked at Jake, you two haven’t talked about getting married very often.
The DJ starts a countdown.
"10...9...8..."
Jessy stand with her back to all of you.
At the number One, she does not throw the ostrich as expected.
All of a sudden, she turns around very slowly and walks right up to you.
You look at her confused.
"You have to throw" you explain to her.
She’s give the flowers to you.
"Jessy what are you doing?" you ask again.
Jessy grabs your shoulders and turns you around.
Behind you, everyone stand in a circle.
And how else could it be, you’re looking in Jakes face.
In his hand a small red box of velvet.
"Oh my God" you shout overpowered and hold your hands in front of your face.
So many emotions flow through your body.
You turn away from Jake and take two steps just to turn back to him again.
He grins at you shyly but resolutely, holding a hand for you to reach for.
He pulls you to himself and immediately the first tears run out of your eyes.
"Oh, God" you mumble again.
"Hi babe" he mumbles.
"I know you don’t really like that much attention, but I think it’s about time I did the right thing. You are the only thing that matters to me, the only thing that has ever counted and will count. You are everything to me.
You are my only love, my one true love, my everything, my world and my heart, my life and my grief.
My joy and my fear, my girl. Oh damn, I love you more than I could ever describe. I know I can be exhausting. I know I can be stupid.
I know I can be a asshole.
I know I’m not easy and sometimes I stress you or I don’t pay enough attention to you.
And I just hope you can handle it, because you’re not so easy either." You two giggles.
"You’re just all I want and all I’ll ever need, my love, I just need you, to live, to be happy.
And that’s why I want to ask you now, here, today."
Jake takes a deep breath and kneels on the floor in front of you.
Now you’re crying more and more, it feels like it’s all just a dream.
Every cell in your body tingles and feels tense, tense with happiness.
Jake opens the little box.
In the small box, a beautiful ring glittered. (Think of your ring as you would like it)
"And that’s why I want to ask you, do you want to lead a chaotic life with me? A completely crazy and exciting life with me at your side? I mean, with the two of us it can only be a chaos" he smiles.
"So, will you marry me? Will you be my wife?"
You’re holding your breath.
Sure, you’ve already imagined a few times how this moment could be, how it would go and how you would react. You knew these words would come now and yet they take your breath away.
You want to answer "yes" and fall around his neck but your words are stuck in your throat.
Suddenly the doors of the hall are torn open.
A lot of men with big guns come running in, shouting at each other’s orders.
"WE ARE THE FBI! JAKE (last name) RAISE YOUR ARMS OVER YOUR HEAD IMMEDIATELY! YOU ARE ARRESTED FOR HACKING THE GOVERNMENT SERVERS"
Before you can react, you’ll be pulled back and held by Richy.
An FBI Agend holds a gun to Jake’s head to keep him calm.
He drops the box with the ring and raises his hands above his head.
Another agent kicks his back and Jake falls to the ground.
Two men handcuff him, Jake doesn’t fight, he doesn’t say anything, he doesn’t move, he doesn’t even look at you.
Everything around you is deaf.
Jake is pulled up by the officers and brought outside.
You hear a terrible loud scream, you get goose bumps so tortured it sounds.
Then you realize it was your scream.
You want to tear yourself away from Richy, but he holds you even tighter and pulls you into a hug.
"Jake" you’re screaming.
You’re trying to hit Richy, but he’s holding your arms together.
"No, not Jake" you call again.
You’re crying like hell.
You’re having trouble getting air.
Suddenly you get a slight bump in the back.
Your environment is changing.
Jake is kneeling in front of you.
"MC" whispers Jessy softly.
It was just my imagination.
It wasn’t real, it was imagination.
Your mind has just shown you your greatest fear.
Losing Jake is your biggest fear.
It’s like your mind was trying to show you that the only right thing is to marry Jake, to be with him forever.
"Oh God YES! YES YES YES! OF COURSE I WANT TO MARRY YOU" you call out happy.
Jake opens his eyes and has to realize your words.
Three seconds later, he jumps up and puts his arms around your back.
He lift you up and spin you around.
You laugh happily and Jake also loses a small tear that you immediately kiss away.
There’s cheering and clapping all around you.
"YEAHHH" shouts Jessy loudly and hugs Hannah stormily.
Richy and Dan clap and Thomas rejoices.
Cleo wipes a tear from his eye.
Hannah and Jessy jump up and down.
Jessy cries 100 times today.
And you, you cry and you can’t believe how lucky you are.
"I love you" you mumble at Jake’s neck.
"I love you so much" you repeat.
"And I love you" he murmurs.
He stand you back on the floor and take a step back.
He grabs your hand, your two hands tremble with excitement as Jake puts the ring on your finger.
The ring fits perfectly, more than perfectly, as if it were made just for you.
"Shit, I love you so much" he breathes again and puts his lips on yours.
And right now, all that matters is your kiss.
The proposal, just you and him, and it counts forever.
"Now, congratulations" you hear Richy calling, and unfortunately, you and Jake have to break up.
"We have plenty of time for us at home, and then we’ll talk about your daydream you had. Don’t think I didn’t notice it right away" he whispers in your ear.
Yes, unfortunately, you often have such daydreams in which Jake either or has a fight with other hackers or with gangs. Your fear of losing Jake is enormous and nothing would be worse for you.
"okay babe" you mumble.
Then you two smile again.
Jake actually wants to take your hand but he is suddenly pulled by Richy in a hug.
"Congratulations, bro" Richy shouts aloud.
Like two teenagers, they both hit each other on the back.
Richy and Jake became best friends, like you and Jessy.
You often yo out together.
The two guys have quite a lot in common has turned out.
Jessy falls into your arms.
"Congratulations, God, congratulations" she cries almost more than you do.
"Jessy please don’t cry," you beg even though you cry yourself.
"Forget it, I can do it, my best friend is getting married," she shouts.
"Wait, we’re engaged, take it easy," you giggle.
Jessy steps aside and Hannah immediately hugs you.
Dan and Thomas congratulate you and Jake after each other.
Dan and you became good friends, too, and when you get to know him better, he’s really nice.
A waiter brings a tray with glasses of sparkling wine.
He gives everyone a glass.
"Could I have whiskey?" asks Dan.
You’re starting to laugh.
The waiter answers with a "yes" and goes to fetch him his glass.
Lilly’s coming towards you and Jake.
Jake stands next to you and puts an arm around your hip and pulls you to himself.
You lean your head against his shoulder and look at him happy.
Lilly stops in front of you.
You raise an eyebrow.
Jake’s grip on your hip tightens, but it doesn’t hurt.
"Well, I know what I’ve done, I can’t undo it. But I want to apologize to you guys for everything I’ve done. I hope you can forgive me, and congratulations on the engagement, "she explains.
Her face turns red, she’s uncomfortable.
You still don’t really like her.
To annoy her, you look skeptical at Jake.
Now he skeptically pulls up an eyebrow.
"What do you mean, babe?" he asks you and then looks at Lilly.
"Shall we forgive her?"
"I don’t know, she did you more harm than me, it’s your choice, but I think we both accept the apology, right?" you answer.
"Yes, yes, we do" Jake smiles lightly.
And you look at Lilly with a smile.
Today happened to much good things to have now a bad mood
Thomas raises his glass to toast.
"We toast for Jake and MC" Hannah calls and also raises her glass.
"And for Jessy and Richy" answers Jake.
"Here's to those who wish us well, all the rest can go to hell" Jessy grins.
"Tobias" calls Dan and hold up his Glass of Whiskey.
"Who is Tobias?" Cleo asks confused.
We are all confused.
"No, not who, Tobias= two beers" explains Dan and laughs.
"That was the worst toast ever" Richy giggles.
"Do we want to fight?" asks Dan for fun.
"A toast of all of us" you say and raise your glass too.
"To all of us" you all shout at the same time.
"Wait, you all knew about Jake’s plan, right?" you ask.
As if he knew nothing, Jake smiles innocently.
"We were afraid Jessy would tell you" Richy laughs and gives his wife a kiss. "Hey, I would never betray something like that" insulted she turns away from him
"Party, let’s gooooo" Hannah shouts laughing.
-
The rest of the evening you will celebrate a wedding and an engagement.
Your own engagement. Again and again guests come to you and Jake and congratulate you too. It’s just the most beautiful day in the world.
You were just in the bathroom and now you’re going back to the hall. the passage connects the hall and the bathroom.
You’re the only one in the long aisle.
In the middle on the left is the men’s toilet.
You past it and whistle a song.
You can’t really hear it because the music is so loud, but it doesn’t matter.
You always whistle when you’re happy.
Through the loud music you do not hear how a door is opened and closed again.
Nor can you hear the footsteps behind you.
Suddenly someone grabs you by the hip and before you can react, you are turned around and ends up with your back against the wall.
It doesn’t hurt but before you can see your attacker, you will be kissed.
Immediately your favorite smell gets in your nose.
You put your hands on Jake’s neck and pull him even closer to you.
Jake presses his body firmly against yours and you gasp.
That’s what Jake uses to deepen your kiss.
His left hand pinches into your skin on hip and the right hand lies on the back of your head and slightly claws into your hair.
You breathe loudly as Jake slightly pulls your head back and puts his lips on your neck.
With his tongue he goes over your skin and kisses the spot under your ear.
"It’s 4:00 in the morning babe, do we want to go home so slowly? I’d like..." he takes a break to kiss your neck again.
Your hands reach into his perfectly styled hair.
"I’d love to have time alone with you" Jake growls in your ear.
Immediately your breath gets faster, and automatically you squeeze your body even tighter.
You’re breath hard.
"We have an engagement to celebrate" he breathes.
"I think it’s really time to go home" you say whispering.
"Good decision honey"

Forever Hold Your Peace | Tom Hiddleston x Cumberbatch!Reader | Chapter 3 | The Bachelor Party
Pairing: Tom Hiddleston x Cumberbatch!Reader
Summary: Tom Hiddleston dated Benedict's little sister (reader) back at Cambridge, after a bad breakup Tom and Benedict are now friends. The reader is now engaged to an American who Benedict does not trust. Ben turns to his good friend Tom to help break up the wedding and win back the girl he never truly got over.
This Chapter: Tom keeps running into you as wedding preparations kick into high gear. An incident at the bachelor party resolves Tom to join Benedict of this plan of wedding ruin.
Warnings: Fluff, angst, slapping, cursing.
-
The wedding preparations moved fast over the next two weeks. You had time no to stay mad at Ben. You needed the help.
“Why isn’t what’s his face here to pick out a cake?” Ben grumbled as he took a bite of white cake.
“He needed to take care of some things at work, but he is meeting me at the florist at 3 to pick out the flowers.”
“How convenient.”
“I thought you would be nice.” you snapped as crumbs fell from your mouth.
“This is me being nice. Pardon me for thinking the groom should take part in the details of his own wedding.” Ben rolled his eyes.
You pushed away from the table. “This visa thing has stressed him out. And I would expect my family to be supportive!” You stormed off to get some fresh air. As you pushed the door open, you ran into the gentleman entering the shop.
“So sorry.” you muttered.
“My apologies.”
“Tom?” you asked as you spied familiar blue eyes staring at you.
“It’s nice to see you. You look fantastic.“ He pulled you into a hug. You held him just a second too long.
“You too. Why are you… My brother called you, didn’t he?”
Tom laughed. “He asked me to meet him here to go out for a drink. But it looks like I am a bit early.”
“Nonsense. We were wrapping up.” You fidgeted with your hair, flustered.
You opened the door and the two of you stepped back in. Ben’s face lit up when he noticed Tom walking with you. Now there was a brother-in-law he could live with.
Tom hugged Benedict. “Dirty pool at giving me the wrong time, mate.” Tom whispered.
Ben smiled wide. “Just reminding her of the options.”
“I’m not an option.“ Tom turned to you. “Where is your fiancé? I was hoping to meet him before the bachelor party this weekend.”
You swallowed. “You’re going to that?!”
“At your brother’s request. Now where is the man who swept the most beautiful girl I ever dated off her feet?” Tom winked at Ben. You didn’t notice because you were too busy hiding your embarrassment.
“He had work stuff. Something to do with his visa.” You made excuses. “He’s stressed what with the wedding and all.”
Tom gave a soft smile and kissed your temple. “Of course. I can only imagine. Well, let me take your brother off your hands and let you get back to planning the big day.” Tom saw the worry on your face. “I would suggest a simple vanilla cake, if it were me.”
You nodded and gave both of them quick hugs, but your eyes filled with sadness as they left you alone in the bakery.
Once Tom and Ben walked out of sight, Tom punched Benedict hard in the shoulder. “Next time give me a little warning.”
“And where would be the fun in that?” Ben laughed. “It is so rare I catch you off guard. And if it must come at my sister’s expense…”
Tom scowled. “Speaking of your sister, where is the infamous Billy Bob?”
Ben groaned. “Working, but I have my suspicions he is othwersie occupied.”
Tom furrowed his brow. “Why?”
“He is never around. All the big events of this wedding he has missed. No one works that much. Not even you.”
Tom frowned. “Have you talked to her about it?”
“She doesn’t take me seriously. I’m just the annoying big brother. Now if you…” Ben looked at Tom with hopeful eyes.
“Oh no,” Tom backed away as they reached the pub. “Absolutely not. I will not ruin your sister’s wedding based on your paranoid suspicions.”
“I thought we were friends.”
“We are but I am not willing to die for that friendship. And your sister would kill me.”
“Coward.” They sat down in a booth.
“To want to continue living. Yes I am a coward.”
Tom’s look said to drop the subject, which Benedict obliged and they enjoyed the rest of the meal. They parted making plans to meet for the dreaded bachelor party that weekend.
“Please don’t leave alone during this horrid affair.” Ben pleaded.
“I promise I would come didn’t I?
“True but…”
“Then I will come.” Tom assured him. “And I will get to meet the infamous Billy Bob.”
“Indeed. And you will then understand why this wedding must never happen.” Tom raised an eyebrow and Ben held his hands up. “Apologies.”
“Goodbye Benedict. Good luck on your hairbrained scheme. Try not to make your sister cry.”
“That’s your job, Tom.”
Tom laughed it off as they parted, but Ben’s words stung his heart. He hoped to never make you cry ever again.
-
You answered the door of your brother’s home to find Tom standing in jeans and t-shirt. His blond hair tousled in curls.
“We have to stop meeting like this.” He winked at you.
You bit your lip. “We do. Although…” you glanced over your shoulder. “… I suspect my brother may have something to do with that.”
Tom laughed. “I suspect you’re right.” He shuffled his feet out of nerves. “Listen… I know it’s been years but I’m sorry.”
Your shoulders slumped. “It’s fine. I’m over it.” You stepped outside to leave. Tom grabbed your hand.
“No, it’s not fine. I behaved like a right bastard and no one deserves to be treated less than.”
Tears pricked at your eyes. “Thank you, Tom.”
“And look at you now, successful and getting married in two days to the man of your dreams! I wish I could be there to see it.”
You nodded as his words hit your heart. Was William the man of your dreams or just the man you said yes to? You pushed the troubling thought aside.
“I’m sure Ben will share pictures.” You wanted to get out of there. Away from Tom’s charm. You stepped down the stairs.
Tom gave a killer smile to hide his heartache. “I won’t keep you any longer. You must have lots to do.”
You nodded. “It was good to see you, Tom.” You lied.
“You too.” He kissed your cheek. “Good luck tomorrow.”
You hustled away before you cried in front of him. Ben came to the door just as you disappeared from view.
“Still hitting it off with the ladies, I see.” Benedict teased.
“Weren’t you the one who forbade me to date a member of your family?” He raised an eyebrow as they got into the car.
“A position I am reconsidering. Thank you for accompanying me to this thing.”
“Why did you invite me, anyway?”
“You mean I can’t enjoy the company of one of my best friends for an evening?”
“No.”
“You’re right. I need a second opinion on William. And a second pair of eyes—”
“— to spy—”
“—to observe.” Benedict shot daggers at Tom.
“Another word for spying.”
“Are you going to help?”
“I intend on enjoying myself tonight.”
“Then we agree.”
“Not at all.”
This continued until they pulled up to the club. It was the sort of place Tom and Benedict would never frequent of their own accord. Too trendy, too loud, too bright.
It’s the “classic bachelor party” William explained to Benedict who later relayed that to Tom.
“In other words, too much booze and too much boobs.” Tom commented.
“It’s that rather crass. On second thought, that’s probably what he thought.” Benedict quipped. They grabbed drinks at the bar. “Oh shit, here he comes.”
Benedict hooked his chin towards a sweaty and smiling man.
“Holy fuck! It’s Loki!” William screamed over the loud club music.
Tom nearly spit out his drink. He hated him already. “In the flesh.” he choked out as William took his hand into his meaty paw and shook it hard, squeezing.
William punched Ben in the shoulder. “Bro, you never told me you knew Loki!”
Tom giggled behind William’s back at Ben’s discomfort. “You never asked.” Ben scoffed.
William spun to speak to Tom and Benedict pulled faces behind, mouthing “wanker” at Tom.
“Dude, do you know Arnold Schwarzenegger? He is my favorite.”
Benedict rolled his eyes.
“I’m afraid not, William.” Tom gave a tight smile. “But Ben you were at that BAFTA event last week…”
That was all it took to send William talking a mile a minute. Tom smiled at Benedict as he walked away to leave Benedict to fend for himself for a bit.
“Serves him right.” Tom muttered to himself as he went off to find a dark corner.
Ben didn’t resurface until 30 minutes later.
“You’ll pay for that.” Benedict cursed as he sidled up Tom at the bar.
“Fair is fair.” Tom smiled. “How is Billy Bob?”
“On his third cocktail and even more insufferable than usual with his mates by his side.” Benedict’s voice dripped with disdain.
“Shame. Here’s to getting out of here unaccosted.” Tom raised his glass.
A heavy hand hit Benedict’s shoulder.
“Onto our second stop for the night.”
Tom and Benedict furrowed their brows.
“I beg your pardon?” Benedict questioned.
“This was just the appetizer, bro. Onto the entrée. Zander will give you the address.” He walked away but not before shooting his fingers at the two men.
A tall thin man with slicked down black hair, who was Zander, gave them the address to a private residence. Benedict called the car.
“Do you have any idea where we are going?” Tom asked.
“I wasn’t consulted on the party plans. It’s probably a stripper popping out of a cake, judging by this crowd.”
Tom buried his head in his hand. “God, I hope not.”
The private residence was the rental for the groomsman. Everyone else headed to the parlor while Tom and Benedict wandered to the kitchen to see if there was anything edible in this house. They found only beer in the fridge.
“William! We are going to grab some food and be right back.” Tom yelled.
“Whatever, dude.” William yelled, his voice coming from the crowd of his friends.
Curious, they took a step into the parlor. The men hooted and hollered as rock music played from an unseen sound system.
“I’m afraid you were right.” Tom pointed towards the center of the room. All he saw was a buxom woman wearing little more than a thong and pasties.
Both of them moved out of the room after getting an eyeful of flesh. They sighed as they stepped out into the cool London air.
“That was awkward.” Tom commented.
The two laughed at the absurdity of their situation as they walked towards the nearest store.
-
They returned thirty minutes later to a very different scene. The rock music still blasted throughout the house. However, most of the guys were passed out on the furniture or playing video games.
“Where’s William?” Benedict asked a guy name Ashton.
The blond guy just shrugged his shoulders.
“What do you think?” Tom questioned. “Do you want to take the food home?”
“Sounds like a plan.”
Tom handed the bags to Benedict. “I am going to the loo first.” He turned to Ashton. “Where’s the bathroom?”
“Upstairs, second door on the left.”
“Thanks.”
Tom shuffled off.
“I mean right!” Ashton yelled after Tom.
Tom headed upstairs and opened the second door on the left, which led to a bedroom. A bedroom occupied by the stripper and one gentleman from the party, in a state of undress.
“Terribly sorry to interrupt,” Tom apologized. “I was looking for the restroom?”
“Second door on the right, dude.” a familiar voice answered.
“William?” Tom squinted at the man whose neck was being sucked on by a nearly naked woman.
“Loki?”
Tom’s vision flashed white as his hand balled into a fist and it connected with William’s face.
“The name’s Thomas, Billy Bob.” Tom shook his hand out as William laid sprawled unconscious on the bed. He pointed at the stripper.
“He said he was one of the groomsman!” she screamed.
“Your name?”
“Diamond.”
“Diamond.” Tom resisted the urge to roll his eyes. “Party’s over. Get dressed and get out.”
She nodded, too scared to ask questions.
Tom stomped down the stairs and found Ben leaning against a wall.
“I’m in.” Tom grabbed his arm. “I’ll explain in the car. Just tell me when this wedding is.”
Benedict couldn’t help but smile.

If your still doing prompts... What about if Neil and Andrew are friends and Neil figures out that he likes Andrew and asks his friends how to woo him and then Andrew has to deal with Neil's terrible attempts at wooing. But everything neils doing is the same thing that Andrews been doing but in his own way? Idk, the idea just won't leave me alone and I'd love to see how amazing you could write it. Love your writing besides, it always makes my day :)

Neil and Andrew had been friends for 5 years when they have their first kiss.
The context? Neil’s small-town friends had all found themselves at the same university. Obviously, they banded together. Obviously, there were parties. Neil’s not a party person himself, but he loved his eclectic family and wanted spend time with them whenever he could. He’d moved to Palmetto when he was 13 with his mother, and as the youngest of the group, watched as the rest of them moved on from middle school to high school, and then from high school to college.
But now they were all back together again.
Thus developed his (mild) enjoyment of Allison or Nicky’s chaotic fiascos, which were technically parties, just lacking any rhyme or reason.
Andrew wasn’t a party person either: in high school, he, Neil and Renee would have movie nights instead, waiting for the rest of them to stumble home in drunken stupors.
He still tagged along to these gatherings, though. Maybe because Neil and Renee were now commonly in attendance. Neil didn’t think that Andrew would come just for Neil, but he hadn’t worked out why Andrew had become so inclined to participate. Maybe because Aaron was there, and they were trying to patch things up with one another. Their mother’s accident had really put a rift between them.
“Are you playing?” Allison demanded. “Neil, you’re playing. Renee’s managed to convince Andrew to play, so you’re playing.”
“Fine,” Neil mused, mostly to appease the inebriated monster that Allison was. No attention was paid to him in these drinking games, mostly because he didn’t drink, but also because he didn’t do anything too unreserved.
“Great!” she cheered, slinging an arm around his shoulder and brought him to the circle. He automatically took his seat next to Andrew, and felt his friend lean closer.
Friend was a loose term. Neil and Andrew were almost attached at the hip: When Neil’s mom had died two years ago, Andrew snatched him away and got a spare mattress in his bedroom till Neil had enough money to afford rent somewhere. Andrew was the only one who knew every horrific detail of Neil’s violent childhood, and the only one who’d seen the scars left by his dead-beat dad. Neil was the only one who knew everything about Andrew, too.
“Spin the bottle, Allison?” Dan leered as the girl put an empty beer bottle in the centre of the circle. Everyone was there. “We’ve got family members here!” Aaron mimed a retching action as Nicky laughed, clapping loudly.
“It’s just to pick who has to do truth or dare,” Allison retorted, waving the bottle in Dan’s face. “You wanna go first, huh? I’ll pick out your dare for you, Wilds. A personal attribute!”
“No way,” Dan laughed, leaning back into Matt’s shoulder. The guy was half asleep: alcohol did that to him, sometimes.
“Fine, I’ll spin it,” Allison huffed. With a little too much vigour, she flicked the neck of the bottle, sending it spinning wildly.
And of course, it had to land on Neil.
“First of the night!” Nicky crowed.
“Neil’s just going to pick truth,” Allison complained. “And make us all sad.”
Neil grinned at her. “Not my fault you grew up in a guilded bubble.”
“Shut the fuck up. Choose!”
Neil hummed, cocking his head to the side.
“Don’t do something stupid,” Andrew warned under his breath.
“Dare,” Neil said.
“Here we go,” his best friend sighed.
“Fuck yeah,” Allison grinned. “What should we make you do, hm? We all know you can and will eat anything without even flinching, no clothes-off, no alcohol...”
“Maybe he should go try and steal something,” Kevin slurred. “He’s good at it. Fuckin’ hot-wired a car once, for the hell of it.”
“Fuck off, Kevin,” Neil managed, ignoring the incredulous looks that the others were giving him.
“When the hell did you manage that?” Dan demanded. “Never mind. I don’t want to know.”
“He should kiss Andrew,” Matt mumbled, burrowing his face into the crook of Dan’s shoulder. No one heard him.
“We should see if he can jump from the dorm roof!”
“No,” Andrew said.
“He should shotgun three Caprisuns,”
“Too easy!”
“Fine, five!”
“He should kiss Andrew,” Matt repeated, sitting up and blinking the sleepiness away.
The circle grew quiet.
“Yeah,” Allison breathed, grinning wildly. She looked to Neil. “You’ve gotta kiss Andrew.”
Neil glanced at Andrew, whose gaze was hooded as he glared at the been in his hand.
“I’m not doing that if Andrew doesn’t want to,” Neil said.
Andrew shrugged. “I don’t care.”
“See?” Allison said, gesturing wildly. “Pucker up, Josten.”
“Well, this isn’t how I expected this to go,” Neil muttered. Andrew looked up at him, something making his eyes sparkle. “Tonight, I mean.”
“Right,” Andrew said. “Well? Hurry up.”
Neil hadn’t kissed many people before. Andrew knew that all too well: he’d heard about all three of Neil’s dating disasters in meandering rants about expectations and Neil’s lack of interest in - well, anyone, really.
He was overthinking this. It was just a kiss.
“And no measly pecks, either!” Dan insisted.
Andrew didn’t care. It was just a kiss.
Neil felt all stiff and awkward, because he had no idea what he was doing, but it was fine, because Andrew was tilting his head and lifting up his hand to press his fingertips to Neil’s cheek, tilting up his chin a bit. Neil let him.
When Andrew drew back, all Neil could think was that his lips were so soft. So soft. Everything about the kiss had been feather light, which wasn’t like Andrew at all.
Neil learned new things about Andrew every day.
“Happy?” Andrew said, facing the circle once more. Allison was cheering as Nicky and Aaron gave each other all-knowing side eye: Dan was clapping, and Matt was looking right at Neil with his head tilted to the side. “Now: go pick on someone else.”
“Someone your own size, might you say?” Nicky teased. Andrew flipped him off.
It had been a nice kiss, Neil thought. He didn’t know Andrew could kiss like that.
“You with us, Neil?”
Neil glanced up and found everyone looking at him. “Yeah? Why?” He frowned. “Did it land on me again?” Did he have to kiss Andrew again? He didn’t want to: not in front of everyone, at least.
Wait, what?
“You’ve been spared for now,” Allison grinned. Neil flipped her off.
And that was Andrew and Neil’s first kiss.
*
Neil burst into Matt and Kevin’s dorm room - obviously, he and Andrew shared one, and Aaron was in the fancy dormitory for academic scholarship students - in a small frenzy.
“Hey,” he told Kevin, who was sitting on his bed minding his own business. “Fuck off.”
Kevin glared at him. “You realise this is my room?”
Matt took off his headphones, looking over his shoulder from the tiny desk he’d crammed in at the end of his bed. It was comedically small in comparison with his gargantuan frame.
“Please?” Neil begged. “I need to talk to Matt.”
“Why can’t I hear it?” Kevin demanded. “I’ve literally known you longer than anyone else. We used to watch each other shit in toddler potties, Neil.”
That was true. Still, Neil needed Matt, his not-childhood friend.
“Dude,” Matt said. “Neil and I are bros. Somethings are just bro to bro. You talk to Andrew about shit you don’t talk to Neil about, yeah? Y’all are like brothers. That’s different from being bros.”
“None of that made sense,” Kevin muttered, packing up his shit. He glared at Neil. “I’ll be in the common room. You’re making up for this by editing my thesis.”
“Looking forward to it,” Neil said dryly, ushering Kevin out the door and leaning against it, feeling a little breathless.
Matt jumped onto his bed, patting the spot next to him. “Come hither, child.”
“I hate it when you say that,” Neil complained, dutifully crossing the tiny room and curling up into a ball on the mattress next to him. Matt patted him on the shoulder gently, though it still managed to send shocks right to his fingers and toes. Matt was just a big guy.
“What’s this all about?” Matt pushed, when Neil stayed in a curled ball.
Neil’s head flopped back, thudding against the wall. He swallowed, staring at the ceiling.
“I like Andrew.”
“Well, that’s good news,” Matt laughed.
“No, Matt.” Neil glared towards the window. “I think I’m in love with Andrew.”
“Yes,” Matt said earnestly. “I know.”
Neil’s neck nearly snapped what with how fast he looked at Matt. “What?”
His friend snorted. “Dude, you’ve always been infatuated with him. We’re best friends, Neil. You and Kevin are best friends. Do you really want to go cuddling up with either of us, like you do with Andrew? Do you spend hours with either of us at a time, just talking? Do you dream about us? Have you told us everything about you?”
“How do you know I’ve done those things with Andrew?” Neil accused, even though he was completely right.
Matt shrugged. “That’s how I am with Dan.”
“We’ve cuddled,” Neil said weakly.
Matt slung his arm around Neil’s narrow shoulders. It was like wearing a blanket. “Hell yes, we have. But that’s not what I mean.”
“We don’t do that.”
“Head out of the gutter, bucko. Remember that photo Allison managed of the two of you? Asleep on the couch? You were literally asleep on Andrew’s chest: one of his legs was hooked over your hip. That’s some serious canoodling, bro.”
“You’ve analysed us that intensely,” Neil said flatly.
Matt snorted. “It’s kinda hard not to. You’re both all over each other. I’d say it’s sweet if it wasn’t, well, you and Andrew.”
“So if you knew I liked him,” Neil complained. “Why’d you dare me to kiss him? Now I’m aware of it, and I hate it!”
“That was kinda the point,” Matt admitted. “Why the hell do you hate it? Love is a good thing!”
“Need I remind you of my parents?”
Matt shoved him gently. “Don’t start pulling the parent card. Neil, you’ve loved Andrew for years. And - well, I can’t really read him, no one can - I think he likes you back.”
“He does not,” Neil insisted.
“He does!” Matt sung. “You know what you have to do now, Josten?”
“No,” Neil said, sullen.
“You’ve gotta woo him.”
“Here we go,” Neil mumbled.
Matt winked. “Don’t worry. I’ve got you. Andrew will be head over heels for you in no time.”
*
“So,” Neil said, sitting on his bed. Andrew was reading a book, his reading glasses perched on the end of his nose. He only wore them in their room, even though everyone knew Aaron had reading glasses and thus Andrew would have to wear them too. He had his armbands off and a pair of knitted socks on. Neil had become so keenly aware over everything that constituted of Andrew recently: it was driving him up the wall.
Andrew looked at Neil from over his book. “What?”
Neil shrugged. “I don’t know. Do you want to go somewhere?”
Andrew glanced at his watch. “Now?”
Neil shrugged again.
“What’s this about?” Andrew asked, sitting up.
“Nothing!” Neil stressed. “Just thought it might be good to - get out?”
“It’s a Tuesday evening,” Andrew said flatly.
Neil deflated. “We don’t have to go.”
Andrew sighed. “Fine.” Neil perked up. “Where did you want to go?”
Neil hadn’t thought that far ahead. “David’s?”
“David’s,” Andrew repeated. “Neil, you don’t like diner food.”
“Well, now I do!” He really needed to stop the hiccups in his voice. Stuffing his feet into his shoes, he yanked on his coat and shoved his keys and phone into his pocket.
“Now I’m even more suspicious,” Andrew said, watching Neil’s erratic behaviour with mild amusement. “You’ve never willingly taken that phone with you unless I forcefully reminded you too.”
He needed it to text Matt. “We all learn and grow,” he said breezily, escaping out the door. “Hurry up, I want coffee!”
“It’s nearly fucking midnight,” Andrew growled.
He skipped ahead till he arrived at the dorm’s parking lot: Andrew’s was in the corner, where it couldn’t be scratched. After his mother’s death he’d used his portion of her life insurance to buy the thing, but it hadn’t got him more than a heap of junk. He’d spent a whole summer fixing it up: Neil had watched him from the corner of his garage, a little mesmerised.
Fuck, he liked Andrew so much. He could hardly contain it within himself.
He switched the radio to Andrew’s favourite channel as they drove to David’s, an old diner on the corner of campus. It was run by a grouchy old man by the name of David Wymack, hence the name. He served the only pancakes Andrew would speak well of, and sometimes Neil could withstand the fruit smoothies.
Andrew glanced over at Neil at the music choice - Neil almost always usually bickered with him about playing heavy rock when it got past 9 o’clock - but said nothing, continuing to drive.
There was almost no one in David’s when they arrived, even though he usually shut at one. Neil was relieved for that: he didn’t feel like anyone watching him as he failed miserably at wooing Andrew Minyard.
Andrew got his pancakes and Neil decided to try the blueberry smoothie, sans ice cream.
“What is wrong with you,” Andrew muttered.
It clearly wasn’t going well. Neil grimaced and shrugged. “Dunno.”
Andrew squinted at him. “Are you upset?”
“What? No!”
“Can you bozos stop wasting my time?” Wymack huffed.
“Fuck you too, old man,” Andrew said. Wymack flipped him off and proceeded to put an extra scoop of ice-cream onto Andrew’s plate. Their relationship was baffling, especially after Andrew worked the summer here with Renee.
They sat at a corner table, a little ceramic jug with plucked daisies plonked in the centre of the red-and-white chequered table cloth.
“You seem jittery,” Andrew said.
“I’m fine,” Neil managed. Andrew reached out with his hand under the table to stop Neil’s leg from bouncing. The heat from his palm was addictive. Neil made a strange squawking noise, and Andrew immediately withdrew his hand.
“You’re fine,” Andrew repeated.
“Yup,” Neil insisted. Andrew’s pancakes arrived, so Neil tried to distract himself from the ruffled blonde hair and pale eyelashes and the freckles on his nose, sipping at the smoothie. Neil didn’t know what to do with that information. It was quite unnerving.
They were done by half-past-twelve, when Andrew decided to get up and leave without warning. Neil - in a moment’s panic - took one of the daisies from the jug and hopped up after him.
Andrew was leaning against his car door, lighting up two cigarettes. Moonlight shone down, curling in his hair and curving across his jaw. Neil found himself a little star struck.
Andrew offered up the second cigarette and Neil took it from between his fingers with his lips, like he usually did. This time all he could notice was how close it put them, and the shape of Andrew’s lips. Now Neil knew what they felt like, too.
This is ridiculous, Neil thought.
“Why are you holding a flower?” Andrew asked.
Neil looked down to where the daisy rested in his palm. He brought it up and tucked it behind Andrew’s ear. The tips of Andrew’s ears went very pink: he had to be warm in that large sweater of his.
“Don’t know,” Neil answered truthfully, looking at where the daisy drooped down over the shell of Andrew’s ear.
“Okay,” Andrew managed, though his voice was a bit strained. What if he was allergic to daisies? No, that was ridiculous. Neil would know if he was allergic to daisies.
They finished their cigarettes in the quiet. Everything was so muddled. Neil just wanted it to go back to normal. And yet: he wanted to kiss Andrew.
Fucking hell, he thought.
*
“Back to the drawing board,” Neil announced, bursting into Matt’s dorm room again. Kevin wasn’t there, thankfully.
Matt arched his brow. “Huh?”
“Date and flowers didn’t work. What the hell do I do?”
His friend hummed. “What about gifts? Is there something you could give him that’s romantic?”
“He likes chocolate?” Neil hedged.
“Could work,” Matt acknowledged. “Or, you know, we could make him jealous.”
“Absolutely not,” Neil grimaced.
“Just a thought.”
“I don’t know what I’m doing,” Neil groaned, sinking into a puddle on the floor.
The door opened as Kevin stepped through. He didn’t even pause, stepping right over where Neil had melted onto the floor.
“Don’t mind him,” Matt acknowledged.
Neil made an exasperated noise.
“Have you always been so dramatic?” Kevin acknowledged.
“Maybe you could recite a monologue to him,” Matt suggested.
Kevin frowned. “Who?”
Before Neil could shush him, Matt sung out “Andrew!” with a cheerful smile.
Kevin signed. “Fucking finally. Everyone’s been waiting years for the two of you to sort yourselves out.”
“What?” Neil sat up. “Are you serious?”
Kevin shrugged. “It’s pretty obvious.”
“For fuck’s sake,” Neil groused.
“He’s trying to woo Andrew into liking him back,” Matt informed Kevin.
Kevin frowned. “Why don’t you just tell him that you like him?”
“Because that’s mortifying?”
“You’re such a horribly adjusted human being,” Kevin muttered.
“He’s kinda right,” Matt acknowledged. “I just kept asking Dan on dates till she accepted.”
“No,” Neil hoisted himself to his feet. “I’ll figure it out. It won’t have to come to that.” He glared at both of them. “Thanks for nothing. Neither of you know anything about relationships.”
“We are both in committed, loving, long-term partnerships,” Kevin pointed out.
“Love you too!” Matt called as Neil stomped out.
*
Neil eventually developed a checklist.
Spontaneous midnight date? Nope. Flowers? Definitely a no. Making him a mixtape? Not the right decade.
Accompanying him places definitely didn’t work: Neil was late to all his classes for a week. Cooking for two also didn’t work, seeing as the only thing Neil could cook was 2 Minute Noodles.
Chocolates was a moderate success, but it probably didn’t help the wooing cause. It didn’t help that they roomed together: Neil didn’t get much time to scheme, because neither of them were social butterflies, and their dorm room was their safe space.
The only thing he thought could’ve been counted a success was when they decided to rewatch the last two Harry Potter movies together: Andrew yanked Neil over to his bed and they nestled into the corner to watch the films from Andrew’s laptop. Neil was so consumed by the thought kiss him kiss him kiss him that he barely registered either of the films.
One month passed since Neil’s epiphany, then one and a half: It even got too the point that Neil jostled Andrew’s shoulder at another of Allison’s ‘parties’ and said “Remember the last time she made us participate?” to which Neil only received an odd look and stale silence.
He also tried to rig one of Allison’s silly games, giving Andrew a piece of paper that asked do you like someone? Andrew set the thing on fire with his lighter, and the dormitory nearly had to be evacuated.
Neil was beginning to lose hope.
“You upset, Neil?” Renee asked, dropping into the chair next to him. He was studying in the library, one of the few places he knew Andrew wouldn’t follow.
“Hi, Renee,” Neil said, sullen.
“I’ll take that as a yes.” She twisted herself around to face him. “What’s up?”
“Can’t talk to you about it,” Neil mumbled, resting his head on his folded arms and glaring at the table.
“You know,” Renee said, slightly amused. “I overheard something about someone being interested in Andrew recently.”
Neil sat up. “You did? Who?” He’d fight them. Not that he was possessive, or jealous.
Renee laughed. “You, silly.”
Neil deflated. “Does everyone know? I feel like I was the last one to figure it out.”
Renee patted his shoulder gently. “Almost the last one.”
“What do you mean?”
“Andrew doesn’t know.”
“Good,” Neil huffed out. “That’d be embarrassing.”
Renee shook her head.
“He’s never going to like me back,” Neil mumbled. “I’ve been trying so hard, but he won’t notice.”
“He did mention you were acting odd, recently,” Renee acknowledged.
Neil huffed. “Yeah, well. There’s no point in keeping it up, is there? Not if nothing will happen.”
“You know,” she said. “I always found clarity in honesty.” With that, she winked and slid off her stool. “See you around, Neil.”
“Yeah,” Neil muttered. “See you.”
*
Neil dressed quickly in the shower stall and hooked his towel over his shoulder, carrying his small caddy back to his room. He was wearing old pyjamas: fire-engine truck flannels with one of Matt’s oversized (or normal sized, for him) hoodies that went all the way to his fingertips. He shook out his wet hair as he traversed from the bathroom back to his dorm room and shouldered his way in, the door unlocked. That meant Andrew was back.
And back, Andrew was: facing the wall, he was tugging off a turtleneck sweater and yanking on a t-shirt that Neil recognised as his: he’d already changed into grey sweats that were too long for him, hanging around the ankles.
Neil slowly put his soap back onto his little shelf, hanging his towel on a wall hook. Andrew glanced over his shoulder at him, acknowledging Neil’s presence, before going back to unpacking from his day and readying for bed.
Neil felt sucker-punched.
“Andrew?”
He glanced back again, brows furrowing at Neil’s strange tone. “What?”
When Neil couldn’t answer, he dropped what he was doing and came closer. His fingers curled in Neil’s collar, tugging him closer.
“You’re pale as shit,” he commented. “Are you going to collapse?”
“I’m already falling,” Neil joked weakly.
“What?”
“What?”
Andrew stepped back. Dammit, Neil thought. “What the hell is going on, Neil? You’ve been acting fucking weird for ages, now.”
“I really like you,” Neil breathed out.
Andrew froze.
“I wasn’t meant to say that,” Neil bit out, folding his arms over his chest. “But I can’t get over it. Ever since we kissed I’ve been kinda losing my mind, and everyone’s told me I’ve liked you for years -”
“Shut up,” Andrew said fiercely, stomping right up into Neil’s space, crowding him against the door.
“Um,” Neil mumbled, blinking.
“You’re the worst,” Andrew hissed. “You’ve been doing all this shit because you like me? I thought you were working up to telling me you were leaving!”
“What?” Neil echoed.
“Shut up,” Andrew complained. “You’re the fucking worst. I hate you.”
And then he kissed him. Andrew kissed Neil, that is. It was definitely one of the best moments of Neil’s life, which wasn’t saying much, considering his track record. Still, Neil’s fingers spread out across Andrew’s shoulder blades as his hands grasped Neil’s jaw, kissing him for real, this time.
Neil had been right: it was definitely better when there was no one else watching.
Andrew’s shoulders were hunched over when he fell back, pressing his forehead to Neil’s shoulder.
“You like me?” Neil asked, voice higher and breathier than he thought he could manage. “Since when?”
“I hate you,” Andrew retorted. Then, quieter, he said: “Since forever.”
Neil’s hands pressed him closer: this wasn’t unfamiliar, the proximity, Andrew’s touch, breath wafting over bare skin. But the warmth encompassing it made sense now.
“Okay,” he said. And then: “Me too.”
“Were you trying to woo me with 2 Minute Noodles?” Andrew inquired.
“No,” Neil said sheepishly.
Andrew shook his head, tilting Neil’s head down for another kiss. Then he signed against Neil’s lips. “I hate you. So much.”
Neil grinned.

Deft hands remove the tacky yellow polo, revealing flawless tanned skin slick with sweat, a moan of “Dean” falling from parted pink lips, kiss swollen.
Dean wakes up with a hiss, sitting up in the motel room bed. There’s a light sheen of sweat on his forehead and his chest is heaving from the dream he was having. Nightmare, he tries to correct, but knows that’s not true. He looks down and sees the thin blanket is slightly tented and he growls in frustration, looking over at the clock and pointedly not past it towards Sam.
4:27 AM the digital clock on the nightstand tells him and he resigns himself to another sleepless night. He gets up and heads for the shower just knowing it’s going to be a long day.
The cold water doesn’t help his erection all that much with those visions swimming around in his head, both turning him on and turning his stomach at the same time. He remembers how it felt, Sam under him. He remembers the breathy way his brother -- no, not his brother, a different Sam, though deep down he knows it was still his Sam -- would moan his name.
They woke up like Sandover never happened and, well, to Sam it never did. Sam didn’t have the honor of meeting Zachariah. Sam isn’t tainted with the memories of Dean pushing him down face first onto Dean Smith’s desk and fucking him raw. Though Sam felt it, Dean knows. He saw the way Sam hissed in pain when he first sat up upon waking, the weird limp he walked with, and the careful way he’d lower himself into the passenger seat of the Impala. And he hated himself for not being able to apologize when Sam said, “I think I pulled something, because I- it just hurts.”
Four days later and he still hates himself.
Four days later and he’s still having wet dreams -- memories -- of their coupling, like a teenage boy crushing on his hot teacher. He’s harbored these feelings for Sam for so long and all it took was one meddling winged dickhead and all of it comes crashing down.
He wishes Zachariah took his memories because then he wouldn’t have to remember that getting what he’s wanted all along was just a one time deal. The angels are doing more harm than good and Dean wants them gone.
Every time he closes his eyes he sees Sammy pushing his ass back, begging Dean for more. Sees the way Sam’s big, skinny hands grip the opposite side of the desk as Dean pounds into him from behind, hands that aren’t littered with callouses from gun wielding gripping Sam’s lithe hips and bruising him, leaving his mark for days.
Dean almost came in his pants when he saw the bruises on Sam the next morning as Sam got dressed. Luckily for Dean, the motel didn’t have big enough mirrors for Sam to look at his hips after showering or he’d have questions Dean can never answer.
“You’re such a good boy, aren’t you?” Dean Smith asks, lips centimetres away from Sam Wesson’s. He can feel his breath fanning over his lips as he pants. Sam’s backed against Dean’s desk, partially sitting but still fully clothed, and Dean presses a knee against Sam’s erection. The kid from tech support hisses, his chest arching as he tries to gain friction, but Dean holds still, just keeping pressure. “Are you going to be my good boy, Sam?”
“--ean!”
“Yes, yes, Mr. Smith, please just--”
Trailing a finger over Sam’s flushed cheek, he says, “What did I tell you, Sam? Call me--”
“DEAN!”
Dean startles out of his reverie and looks over at Sam, shocked that he’s remembering in the middle of the day. He blinks at Sam then asks, “What?”
“Dude, I’ve been calling your name for like five minutes. Are you okay?”
Am I okay, he thinks, wishing he could just snap, No because I’m imagining holding you down and fucking you like I did in the alternate world you don’t remember.
“I’m fine, man, just tired. What’d you find?”
Sam seems to visibly relax at the mention of the case they’re working. “So get this...”
~ ! ~
Dean wakes with a start but not with an erection or from a dream. He’s not panting or sweating. What the hell woke him up?
“Please...”
His head turns so fast his neck protests but Sam sounds like he’s in pain and big brother instincts always kick in when Sam’s in pain. “Sammy?” he asks softly.
“Dean... please...”
Dean stops moving to get off the bed, one foot on the floor; he’s frozen, eyes locked on Sam’s sleeping form. Sam’s sweating, his hair matted to his forehead, and his chest is rising and falling at a more rapid pace, panting. His thin fingers grip the blanket pulled up to his chest.
And he just moaned Dean’s name.
“Sam?” he cautions, moving slow. His left foot comes off the bed to meet his right and he stands. The closer to Sam he gets the better he can see him. He’s got his lower lip trapped between his teeth and his whole body seems to be wracked by tremors, but it’s only when he’s standing right above him that he sees it, sees what’s got Sam moaning.
Sam’s hard, and there’s a wet patch growing on the blanket right above the tent and Dean has to take a deep breath to calm himself before he does something stupid. Sam’s a guy, and they’ve been sharing a room for years, it’s not like he’s never seen Sammy have a wet dream before. He just- Sam’s never called out Dean’s name before.
“Oh god, Dean- Dean- I need you, please--”
“Dean, I need you- please!”
“Fuck,” he groans, running a hand through his short hair and messing it up more than the pillow did. “You’re killing me here, kiddo.” If he wasn’t having memory flashes of Sam Wesson writhing under him and saying the exact words his baby brother is moaning in his sleep right now, it wouldn’t be as bad. But god, Dean is yearning.
There’s an unspoken bro code: don’t wake a guy up from a wet dream; it’s just fucking weird. But he can’t listen to Sam moan like this anymore or he’ll do something they will both regret.
He shakes Sam’s shoulder, relishes in the heat radiating off of him, and Sam startles awake with a yelp. His eyes are frantic as he searches for the enemy before landing on Dean, lust blown and wide. Dean licks his lips and lets go of his shoulder, “Hey, hey, you’re okay, Sammy,” he soothes, backing up to sit on the edge of his own bed. “You’re safe. You were just, uh- dreaming.”
Sam still looks panicked, eyes wide and almost scared. He says, voice cracking, “I- we were- oh god. Dean.”
Dean knows exactly what Sam is sputtering about but he plays dumb, asks, “What were you dreaming about?” despite his better judgement.
Sam seems to deflate at that, shoulders sagging as he whispers, “You’d never wanna look at me again.” He fiddles with the blanket. “I’m gonna go take a shower,” he says and proceeds to get off the bed on the other side, presumably to hide his obvious erection.
It isn’t until he hears the water running that he lies back down. If Sam’s getting his memories of Sandover back in his dreams, Dean is screwed.
~ ! ~
A new development is Sam’s cheeks pinking when Dean gets too close. He teases Sam because that’s what he’s supposed to do as a big brother, but now it seems to be affecting Sam in a completely different way. He’s been woken up from a dead sleep three times now with Sam’s moaning, and every morning he’s rock hard as he watches his little brother come in his sleep pants.
He particularly loves when Sam’s chest arches almost completely off the bed, hair fanned out over the pillow, as he comes with Dean’s name on his tongue. He feigns sleep while Sam gets up to shower at the ass crack of dawn, and Dean rubs one out to Sam’s moans playing over and over in his head.
If this keeps up, he’s not going to be able to hold off any longer.

“I, uh--” Sam’s got that gorgeous blush on his cheeks again. “I think I’m gonna get a separate room tonight, Dean. I- I’m not feeling well and I don’t think you need to hear me getting sick all night...”
If by getting sick he means moaning Dean’s name all night Sam couldn’t be more wrong.
“Sammy, when have we ever got separate rooms? Even when you had the flu I didn’t leave you. C’mon.” He tugs on Sam’s jacket sleeve and pulls his little brother against his side to make sure he can’t get away. “Just let big brother take care of you. I always know what to do with you, don’t I?”
If possible, Sam’s blush turns a deeper scarlet and Dean smirks when his head is turned away. Oh yeah, he’s still got it.
His dreams stopped right around the time Sam’s started, like a transference, but Dean’s not complaining. He’s enjoying the view of Sammy coming every night to the thought of Dean fucking him on an office desk. If it gets any worse, Sam might seek out real Dean’s attention, and Dean is -- not so patiently -- waiting. He’s not gonna let Sammy go on like this for too much longer. Dean’s dick can’t handle how frequently he’s jerking off.

This time he’s not awoken by Sammy’s sweet little moans. He’s awoken by the bed dipping behind him and he self-consciously reaches for the knife he’s got under his pillow, until he smells Sam’s sweat and girly shampoo. He relaxes back into the mattress and waits.
“Dean,” Sam whispers, sounding lost.
Not moving, ever the blase big brother, he asks, “Yeah, Sammy?”
“I keep- I keep having these dreams and they- Dean, they feel so real- I don’t know what to think anymore.” He sounds so lost, so broken that Dean rolls half onto his back and looks up at his little brother. “I know this is going to sound gross because we’re brothers and I’m sorry but I- I can’t hold it in anymore, Dean.” He takes a deep breath, like he’s psyching himself up to talk about what Dean already knows about. “I’m having dreams about you. And me. And--”
Without thinking, Dean reaches a hand up and cups Sam’s very warm cheek, startling his baby brother. “I know, kiddo,” he soothes. “I know. I’ve had them, too.”
“You- what?”
“I’m gonna sound like I’m crazy but hear me out, Sam.” He sits up completely so they’re face to face, hand never leaving Sam’s pinkwarm cheek. “They aren’t dreams. They’re memories.”
Sam stares at him blankly a moment then laughs awkwardly, says, “Yeah sure, Dean,” and moves to get up from the bed, but Dean’s hand on his cheek moves to grip the back of Sam’s neck and pulls him in so they’re nose to nose. “Dean--”
“Remember the morning you woke up sore? When you couldn’t sit right for a few days?”
“Yeah, I- no, no way.”
“Yeah, sweetheart,” he replies, the pet name just rolling off his tongue like he’s said it his whole life. “Yeah.”
“Oh god.”
Dean keeps him grounded by squeezing the back of his neck. “But listen, Sammy, I don’t regret it, and I don’t want you to, either. I think it’s something we could have.” He smiles softly, making sure Sam’s eyes are on his as he starts to lean in. “If it’s something you want, that is.” Sam meets him halfway and they share their first real kiss.
Sam doesn’t go back to his own bed that night.
