Fitness at Dawn - The Brixton Dusk edition
This, related to @bat-cat-reader's Anon she refused to publish (see below post):
So, according to The Queen of Nothing, The Nicorettes own a fitness club in Brixton?
Really?
LOL until the Summer Solstice, folks. In a world where information is more and more readily available to anyone with a keyboard, it took me 15 minutes to debunk this bullshit. And FYI, the UK Company Law has recently substantially changed, with the new Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act. Starting May 1st, we will progressively have even more transparency in the Company House system. For example:
And all the directors will have to have their identity verified. For old and new companies alike.
The only Rasenti being a currently appointed company officer in the UK is not the Male, nor the Female Nicorette:
I could have stopped there. But I didn't. I went on the Gymnasium's company website. Lo and behold:
Their Brixton fitness joint is one of the three they own in the London Metropolitan Area. The company is, therefore, a group.
Surely enough:
Who is running it and most certainly owning it?
The rest of 25% is most probably split between three other partners/Directors:
Peter Michael Cuff Olivier, aka 'Big Red Olivier'. Acquaintance of S. South African. He is a shareholder and well, if we are generous, owner of Gymnasium. Probably the real Brixton fitness joint's manager, too.
*urv got it all wrong, again: she wasn't 'hanging out there'. She was probably discussing cha-ching 💵💵💵 and Hyrox-related stuff:
Is this tenuous connection, via Hyrox, to his fitness buddies being actively pushed, in order to try and substantiate a relationship with S? The answer is yes.
Was *urv tipped accordingly? The answer is hell yes, knowing she will publish anything without double-checking.
I see Ye Olde South African Mafia Connection still alive and kicking. Hats off to you, @samheughanswife!
But when your mental age is 5, that Fitness at Dawn new episode is probably satisfying, IDK 🤷♀️.
PS: Thanks, dearie, for the tip. You know who you are: a much trusted friend.

A Study in Scarlet: The Lauriston Gardens Mystery
To quote the current dress regulations of the Royal Navy (https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/-/media/royal-navy-responsive/documents/reference-library/br-3-vol-1/chapter-38.pdf): "Sideburns for RM [Royal Marines] Personnel shall not extend below halfway down the ear." Moustaches can be worn by Royal Marines at their discretion, but not regular Royal Navy personnel. Beards require authorisation and are to be shaved off if the situation means that a gas mask is likely to be needed.
A hansom is a two-wheeled horsedrawn carriage with the driver sitting on an open-air seat at the back and officially two (although three could squeeze in) passengers in an enclosed cab below him, being able to give the driver instructions through a trap door. They were the standard London taxi until motorcabs turned up in 1908 and were largely superseded by the early 1920s, although the last licence for a hansom wasn't given up until 1947. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hansom_cab)
Taxis in London can be hailed on the street or via cab ranks. Minicabs were of course not a thing at this point. The taxi business in London has been regulated since 1635 - when the numbers proliferating the streets were starting to cause hazards.
A hat tip to @geeoharee for raising the distance involved for the taxi journey. At around 5.4 miles drive, you would probably be looking at around £24 at today's prices, depending on traffic.
The Brixton Road dates back to the Roman era as it was part of the London to Brighton (to use their modern names) road - it is today part of the A23 that follows the same route and is notably used for the annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. It had - and still has - a lot of Regency-style houses.
Strand is a major throughfare in the City of Westminster, part of the London theatreland area.
Trichinopoly is now called Tiruchirappalli, a major city in Tamil Nadu, India.

Happy Wednesday, Ladies. As the chill sets in, there’s no better time to refresh your wardrobe with cozy, stylish, and functional pieces that will keep you warm no matter how low the temperature drops. Whether you’re layering up for a brisk walk in the city or bundling up for a winter getaway, there are a few cold-weather essentials you can’t go without. In today’s post, we’re diving into the best pieces of cold-weather clothing, from luxurious knitwear to the must-have overcoat that’ll elevate any outfit. Let’s make sure we stay warm while looking chic! Knitwear: The Ultimate Winter Layer When the temperatures drop, the first thing I reach for is a cozy knit sweater. Knitwear is the ultimate cold-weather essential because it’s so versatile. Whether you’re lounging at home or running errands, a well-chosen knit can elevate your look while keeping you comfortable in cold weather. Talbots has a great selection of sweaters, and our new favorite brand, Quince, has luxe cashmere options at affordable prices. Here’s why I love knitwear for winter: Soft and breathable: Cashmere, merino wool, and chunky knits provide warmth without feeling heavy or stuffy. Layering potential: A sweater is the perfect middle layer. Throw it under a coat for warmth or pair it with your favorite scarf for a stylish look. Variety of styles: From oversized, chunky sweaters to more tailored, fitted designs, there’s a knit for every occasion. I love turtlenecks for their extra warmth around the neck. High Rise Corduroy Vintage Slim Pants | Green Turtleneck | Green Driving Mocs | Gold Belt | Stack Bracelets | Gold Hoops Recreate the Outfit The Perfect Overcoat: Warmth with Style Let’s talk about overcoats—another key piece of cold-weather clothing. An overcoat not only keeps you warm but is also a fashion statement. It’s the outerwear piece that will tie your entire winter outfit together. I have been really impressed with the overcoats at Quince, they have all three of the styles I feature today. Here are a few overcoat styles to consider: Kate Spade Single Breasted Stand Collar Coat | Ann Taylor Sophia Pant | Ann Taylor Cashmere Ribbed Turtleneck Sweater | Marc Fisher Yale Chelsea Boots | Plaid Cozy Scarf Shop the Outfit When choosing an overcoat, remember to think about length. A mid-length coat is ideal for everyday wear, while a full-length coat offers extra warmth and can give off a more polished, refined vibe. Scarves and Accessories: Layering for Extra Warmth Cold-weather clothing isn’t just about outerwear and knitwear—it’s also about the accessories that can make or break an outfit. A cozy scarf is essential for keeping your neck warm while adding a pop of color or texture to your look. I love the versatility of scarves, especially during winter, because they can be styled in so many ways. Here are my favorite scarf options: • Chunky Knit Scarves: These are perfect for wrapping around your neck multiple times for maximum warmth. • Silk Scarves: For those crisp, chilly days when you want something lighter but still stylish, a silk scarf adds a luxurious touch to any outfit. Shop Scarves Other accessories, like gloves and hats, are key to completing the winter ensemble. I can’t recommend wool gloves enough—they provide warmth and durability while still looking chic. And don’t forget about hats—whether you opt for a classic beanie or a wool fedora, a good hat adds an extra layer of warmth and a touch of personality. Faux Shearling Jacket | Brixton Victoria Wool Felt Fedora | L.L.Bean Cotton Ribbed Turtleneck | Mango Cropped Skinny Trousers | Kelsi Dagger Brooklyn Loafers | Lee Radziwill Double Bag Recreate the Outfit Layering Pieces: Building a Winter Wardrobe One of the keys to surviving the cold in style is layering. Building your winter wardrobe with versatile layers allows you to add and remove pieces as needed while still looking polished. Check out Lands’ End for a great selection of layering tees. Here are some layering essentials: • Thermal Tops and Bottoms: Start with a lightweight base layer like a thermal shirt or leggings. These work wonders at keeping you warm without adding bulk. • Button-Down Shirts: Layering a button-down shirt under your sweater or overcoat adds a polished touch to your outfit while giving you the flexibility to adjust if things get too toasty indoors. • Vests: A down vest is a fantastic layering piece for the colder months. You can wear it under a coat or over a sweater for extra insulation without restricting your movement. Classic Fit Cashmere Sweater | White Button Up | Stovepipe Jeans | Quilted Puffer Vest | Leopard Print Flats Recreate the Outfit Let’s not forget about winter footwear. The right pair of boots will not only keep your feet warm but also ensure you’re able to walk safely on icy sidewalks. My favorite winter boots are those that have a sturdy, non-slip sole and a stylish design. Nordstrom is a great one-stop shop for cold-weather boots. • Chelsea Boots: For a sleek, minimalist look, leather Chelsea boots are a great choice. They work with everything from skinny jeans to dresses. • Knee-High Boots: If you’re in need of extra warmth, knee-high boots are perfect. Opt for a waterproof material to keep your feet dry on snowy or rainy days. • Faux Fur-Lined Boots: For those super cold days, faux fur-lined boots are not only functional but also super stylish. Closing Thoughts Winter doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style for warmth. With the right mix of knitwear, overcoats, scarves, and accessories, you can build a cold-weather wardrobe that’s as fashionable as it is functional. I always encourage experimenting with layers and textures, because that’s the secret to looking stylish while staying toasty. So, whether you’re strolling through the city, heading to a winter getaway, or simply running errands, I hope this guide helps you navigate the colder months in comfort and style. Stay cozy, stay chic, and embrace the beauty of winter fashion! What are your favorite cold-weather wardrobe staples?
