Hulu has released a trailer for The Jetty which debuts on the US streaming service on Dec. 13. It will also be shown on BritBox, likely due to the fact that Hulu remains one of the only major streamers not to be available internationally. No word yet as to whether a Canadian service might be picking it up.
I was kinda surprised at the low Rotten Tomatoes scores this show got (see linked story), but a followup series has apparently all but been confirmed though it remains to be seen when it might go into production. One tabloid has made the claim that Jenna Coleman might be stepping away from acting for a bit with her newborn, but the fact she's booked for several North American comic cons in the new year seems to suggest otherwise.

Yes, I would love to financially contribute financially to my favorite actors' shows but streaming services are making it a fucking nightmare. Amazon prime for Good Omens and Broadchurch, Showtime for Masters of Sex, Disney plus and Max for Doctor Who and Prodigal Son, Britbox for Staged, Netflix for Inside Man, etc, etc, etc. I love them but I am so poor. 😭 Just fucking bundle or something. When did this become like cable again?

I've just found out that (the news article is from July 2024 but I wasn't aware until last night) there will be an Inspector Lynley Mysteries reboot made by BritBox and I must admit that I have mixed feelings. It is just that I will forever be annoyed that the original series got cancelled too soon and without completing the sixth season. There were usually four episodes per season and only two were made/aired in the final season. The show just ended but didn't have an ending. Nathaniel Parker and Sharon Small will always be Tommy and Barbara to me.
Now, this doesn't mean I won't give the new Lynley a chance. There have been plenty of adaptations of Sherlock Holmes shown on TV from Jeremy Brett, to Benedict Cumberbatch, to Johnny Lee Miller and I've liked each one.
Oh, BritBox streaming service had better keep the OG Inspector Lynley Mysteries to watch once they release the new one.

hey, I saw that you were reblogging dr who stuff and I've been wanting to get into it. if you've watched it, is there a particularly good place to start?
Yes! It's been a favorite of mine for years now, I'd be glad to offer my suggestion.
Season/Series 1 from 2005 is where I started and my main recommendation. It's the 9th doctors first season, and the start of the revival (2005-now) which makes it a decent place to begin. It's written to be a new start, so you can jump in with little or no prior knowledge of doctor who and catch on well.
As for finding it, it's on Max, but if you don't already have access to a Max account, you can pirate it. Max has from 2005 through 2022. The only reason I actually go through proper streaming services is because I can still steal my parents logins, but I know that's not always an option and also companies suck.
That would be my personal suggestion for where to start, but I added a read more with extra rambling, more options and such
I love this show, so if you do watch it I'd love having another friend to talk about it with!
Continueing with new who, if you have access to a Disney+ you can also start at the newest new start, with 14. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but if I remember correctly RTD did want it to act as a new season one and another brand new spot. While I don't think it would be as good as a first intro as 2005's, if you already have disney then it should be fine. If you dont have access to Disney+ then again, pirate it after watching the previous new who seasons.
If you want to start with classic who, there's three main options I'd go with. You can try and start with Hartnell (1) era episodes, Pertwee (3) era episodes, or Tom Baker (4) era episodes. Those are, in order, the very start of the show, the switch to color, and the most popular classic who doctor. There are pros and cons to each of those as starting points, and classic who fans might have other recommendations, but those are also most of the classic who I've actually been able to watch
Classic who episodes are more difficult to find, and I haven't watched very much of it, but if you know someone with britbox then try to get their login, it'll be the easiest way to find them. Mostly likely though, you're going to be pirating them.
I do recommend trying to watch the classic stuff at some point, but it is difficult to find, so staring with New Who will be your best bet.
As for my comment about pirating, I know Soap2day has/had the new stuff, I don't think it had much classic stuff. Not sure about other websites, again I'm taking advantage of family members already paying for streaming services to watch, but I'm sure other fans will have better suggestions on where to watch.

For anyone worried about being starved for content during the writer's and actor's strike, have a list of some of my favorite older completed comfort shows and classic movies that might help kill time.
I'm mentioning the streaming services just because but, as always, if you wish to find alternative means that might include singing sea shanties in the process, go for it.
I'm putting an asterisk next to shows that I have watched to completion and can guarantee a happy/satisfying ending.
In no particular order:
--Burn Notice (Hulu)
--Persuasion 1995 (Free on Roku)
--Leverage* (Free on Tubi & Freevee; Amazon Prime)
--Avatar: the Last Airbender* (Netflix)
--The Mentalist* (Max)
--The Nanny* (Max)
--the Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Extended (Max)
--Elementary* (Hulu)
--The Old Guard (Netflix)
--Critical Role: Campaign 1* & Campaign 2 (Youtube) (This one will definitely kill a lot of time, took me two Covid years to finished Campaign 1)
--While You Were Sleeping (Disney+, and I think Max?)
--Coraline (Max)
--Howl's Moving Castle (Max)
--Spirited Away (Max)
--North & South BBC* (Not sure; I have it on DVD; Maybe Britbox?)
--The Good Place* (Netflix)
--Castle in the Sky (Max)
--Parks & Recreation* (Peacock; skip S1)
--Whisper of the Heart (Max)
--The Mummy 1999 and The Mummy Returns (Max)
--Pride & Prejudice 1995 (Hulu; Britbox)
--Undercover Brother (Cannot find streaming options, but please watch this movie, it's amazing)
And you know what? Let's turn this into a chain! What are some of your go-to comfort shows and movies that you would like to recommend to others during this time of supporting striking creators?

I don't think pirating is particularly wrong; My money spend for subscriptions clearly does not go to the writers etc. However, I've been watching Doctor Who and grown very tired of the glitching and lagging sites, so much that I was willing to pay for a streaming service. Legal and virtuous and all that. But because of geo-blocking, there is literally no streaming service where I could watch it. It's not on Disney+, HBO, Netflix, Britbox, Prime Video... iPlayer only works if you're in UK. Even Google Play doesn't allow me to buy it for the outrageous price of twenty-something dollars per season. They don't sell it on DVD locally anywhere, I even took a look at the Facebook market places... Guess I am unable to act as is holy, virtuous and right, it's a pirate's life for me then.

Watching Classic Who in the USA is weird.
BC Tubi (a free streaming service) has all the fully animated reconstructions but not any of the mixed stories (mostly complete but with 1 or 2 animated reconstructions). By contrast BritBox has all the mixed stories, but apart from “Power of the Daleks” in B&W none of the animated reconstructions
That is odd. I'd like to know what goes into their decisions not to include certain stories, whether animated reconstructions or partially missing episodes.
I haven't watched Pluto TV (which you can also watch for free and it has a Classic Who channel) in a while, but I think I remember someone saying that they didn't include a lot of the animated recons either. If anyone has updated info, please let me know.

We have come full circle: Death of the Stranger Things/Riverdale Era.
One of my friends shared the news in an Instagram group chat, and I was PISSED. So, your girl is back with another rant.
We have come full circle. I dont know if it's because me and my peers and I are grown adults now, and we are no longer in that Stranger Things/Riverdale era where everyone wouldn't shut up about their favorite Netflix shows. I remember those days when Netflix took over and everyone had it. I was late to the party because back then I didn't have the money to be able to afford streaming services, and I had to resort to websites like KissCartoon, KissAnime, and those YouTube videos with the high pitched voices and the TV show playing in the corner of the screen (or, if you were unlucky, a 2 hour background on a loop with a link to the video in the description).
Well, it appears that I might be going back to that route because, at this point, the cost of all these subscriptions is eating into my wallet. I can eat the cost of the $12/month for the plan listed in the screenshot because I was "grandfathered in." However, add the cost of Spotify premium (which went up now that I'm no longer a student), my gym membership, and other streaming services.
Others have even mentioned online that we have too many streaming services to begin with to the point where it is becoming like cable. Even mobile carriers and other sites (like Spotify) include access in their plans-- I used to get free Hulu with Spotify Premium student (but I never used it because I heard the ads are unbearable). Netflix had the most access with shows before companies bought the rights to many of them. A lot of shows that are on MAX, Hulu, and Prime Video used to be on Netflix, believe it or not. Not to mention all of these random smaller sites like Vix, Britbox, Crackle, Paramount Plus, and others I forgot to mention - it is becoming too much. Eventually, cable companies will start bundling these services into their plans.
The main reason why I am on Netflix so much is to keep up with shows and movies that have stemmed from the books I have read, and because I don't want to have to use Prime Video or buy them individually. Shadow and Bone is on there, Heartstopper, All the Light We Cannot See, and other series that were based on books. Netflix also has a good selection of anime and cartoons, like Bee and Puppycat or Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (mainly part 6, which is a Netflix exclusive!).
I even have nostalgia merch that I purchased secondhand and from Hot Topic of shows that were once big on Netflix and TV, mainly from being interested in these fandoms back in my younger days. Back in high school, if you wore Stranger Things merch, you would receive tons of compliments. Now, it's almost as if no one even knows the show, as if the hype died down. I don't see people talking about it as much online anymore since people were shitting on Eddie Munson and Max Mayfield stans and Kate Bush and Metallica blew up on the internet. You can literally find their merch at Ross now - not to hate on Ross, because I love shopping there, but a lot of pop culture merchandise that I find there is mainly from fandoms that are super generic or have otherwise died down. I remember wanting Rick and Morty merch so bad when it was popular! Now, you can literally find their merch everywhere - the men's section of Ross and Rue21 is flooded with their hoodies and shirts. This can also be tied with harmful trend cycles, but I will go deeper into this topic in another post.
Wrapping this post up because I'm getting mad. But I might post another rant soon. Not sure yet.
Here is a little song rec for today

Do you know where I can watch the thick of it specials The Rise Of The Nutters and Spinners & Losers. I’ve looked everywhere and I can’t find it 😭
(If you know any free websites I can watch it on that would be great)
Hello!
Both of the specials are on dailymotion, here and here. They're rather confusingly named series 5, which I expect is why they don't come up in google searches.
Other, proper streaming, options include free trials of BritBox or ITVX. Handy tip: when you want to know which well known streaming service has something, search on justwatch.com or a similar website.

I personally get annoyed at articles that insist on "explaining" endings. Listen, if an ending is as bizarre as The Sopranos, or The Prisoner (the latter still being debated more than 55 years later), then I could see articles like "this might be what it meant." But, seriously, if you have a story that ends on "the butler did it" you don't need an article explaining.
That's not to say "the butler did it" in the case of Jenna Coleman's 2013 miniseries Death Comes to Pemberley (obviously, don't click that article if you don't want the spoilers). But even though I don't remember how it ended (I haven't seen it since about 2015), I'm pretty sure the solution to the mystery doesn't really need an "X explained" article. And this is one of several out there.
On the plus side, this is Cosmo, a major publication, giving DCTP some love, and that's not a bad thing. I'm not the biggest streaming fan or supporter, but reviving things - whether an obscure show like this, or Stranger Things beinging back Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill - is OK by me. The Cosmo headline makes it look like DCTP is being released for the first time but the article makes clear the show is a decade old.
I wonder if Jenna's other pre-Who/post-Waterloo Road shows like Dancing on the Edge, Titanic (2012) or even - is it possible? - Room at the Top might get revived by Netflix down the line? That wouldn't be bad.
[Quick context on Room at the Top - due to filming rights issues over the novel, the originally scheduled 2011 broadcast of the two-part BBC film was cancelled only a few days before airing (imagine that happening today to Jenna fans). Fans had to wait more than a year before the show was finally cleared for broadcast but, due to the issues, no DVD release ever happened and while it is on some streaming services (I think Amazon Prime had it at one point and maybe BritBox), it's been pretty much buried since 2012 and I don't believe PBS did anything with it even though it probably would have aired on Masterpiece (maybe edited a bit) if there weren't problems. BTW Dancing on the Edge aired after Jenna started on Who but I believe her couple of scenes were filmed before.]
