rooming with him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
₊˚ ᗢ kazuha x gn!reader, modern au.
⤷ what is he like as a roommate?
Tumblr media
For someone as innocent-looking as him, it was hard to believe that he was someone who liked to smoke. A few of his friends might have differed and told you that he was most definitely that person, however, it never struck you as being true until you walked in on him smoking out on the balcony in just a t-shirt and shorts.
Being part of the student council and various clubs must be taking a toll on him. He oftentimes overworks himself to the bone and it's easy to notice that than his habit of smoking. He tends to go home late because he’s finishing his studies at school, or he’s out with his club for socials. Thursdays are the hardest for him since all his literature classes have assignments due the same day.
To make it easier on him, you go out of your way to take out the trash whenever it fills up and replace the Brita filter. It was small though some of these things are enough to stress the poor man out. Especially when it's been a long day and he just wants to get a drink of water from the fridge.
He cooks and cleans the kitchen a lot more than you do. Even if he’s busy, he makes sure to make a large portion of food so that the two of you can eat together or have something in the fridge. He’s the type to meal-prep on days when he goes to the gym. You eating some of it never bothered him as it was better to not let anything go to waste. You just have to be aware that he mostly cooks seafood and the occasional chicken. He’s terrible at cooking beef for some reason.
He likes to play his bass out in the living room. He can try to be quieter on days when you ask him to, like during midterms or finals, but he never likes to play in his stuffy room. You notice that sometimes his friends tease him in front of you about how he just wants to show off to you. He only replies to them with a small smile and glances at you.
On the rare times you see his room, it’s rather clean and tidy. There were a lot of posters of artists he liked to listen to, and the occasional music sheets, though it was never overbearing. He had a lot of books lined up on the shelf and many of them had different colored annotations. If you ask him, he would be joyous to lend you some of his favorite poets. When you do so, you notice the way his cheeks are painted with warm hues.
He just hopes that when you enter his room, you knock, otherwise you might see him working on love poetry about you.

nothing more emotionally devastating than lovingly pulling out the ice trays and the brita filter, gently popping out the cubes to put in your water bottle, topping it off withe rhe crisp water from a pitcher with a recently replaced filter, excited because you know how crisp and fresh that water is gonna taste today. even going to fill back up the pitcher and ice trays, swapping the trays with the frozen ones so you can get the older ones first. and then leaving the water bottle on your kitchen counter

Embracing minimalism. (I promise I didn’t smoke yet.)
I don’t do first party phone plans anymore. I was paying nearly $150 a month for phone service where the perk was Netflix without ads for $6. Yes, that’s really it. And is it really a perk if you’re paying for it? Then I was paying $22 dollars a month to “lease” a phone that I’ve already paid off. Make it make sense. In fact, my phone bill only decreased by $8 once I paid the phone off. I’m now with a company that is owned by the previous company but I’ll be paying less in a year than I paid in two months. All this tells me is they can offer lower premiums but they know hell includes a demand for smartphones so they can charge whatever.
I still have an iPhone 11 because it works and Apple hasn’t yet decided they need more money, therefore they are still pushing new firmware updates to my phone and all my apps work. If history serves truth, I expect I’ll survive one more iPhone release before they tell me and my phone to stop being below fanbase level or fuck off.
I’ve taken to wearing all black as a base color since February. Just a few carefully chosen graphics here and there. Mostly anime or quotes. I’ve never cared for big ass logos anyway. Any other color is either white or red. All my shoes are black and I literally have one pair for every possible occasion. Casual, dress, running (love my Hokas), and running to the mailbox/walking the dog 2k24s.
Our car gave up the ghost months ago. We had money saved to get another one but after weeks of riding our bikes and walking everywhere, we decided it just wasn’t worth the extra expense. After doing the math, even if we spent money on the occasional rideshare, we’d still be spending less than owning a car. I think of this as both a privilege and an embracing. We live in a college town that happens to be bike friendly-ish depending on where you live. If I have to be on-site for work, that’s a quick 5+ mile bike ride that can take me about 40mins on my manual or 30 on my electric. Also, the local buses are free.
We’d rather spend hellcoins on experiences. Camping. Stargazing. Art galleries. Drag shows. Tee Ayech Sea. Travel. Books. Loving on our hobbies. I’ve decided if I get a vehicle, it will be a traveling van we can stay in on trips if we want to. Sometimes “date night” is us sitting on the sectional reading with a nature montage on the TV.
Sound machines and Echos have every room sounding like a rainforest. Incenseseses ERRWHERE.
We cook a lot and plan meals. We even plan the unplanned “hormonal shift” meals.
We’ve been here over a year and we’ve only bought trash bags twice. This is without recycle available. If we can reuse something, we’re going to.
I have two water bottles. One is a Brita with replaceable filters and the other is a thermos for biking and/or running excursions.
And as Kondo as this sounds, I don’t keep a lot of apps on my phone. If I haven’t used it and it doesn’t spark joy, it’s removed.
I don’t know if it’s age, disdain, starting over multiples times or what but the attachment to what this place says we need just ain’t there for me and I ain’t mad at it.

my blood results show medically significant dehydration AGAIN and i'm realizing how out of control my not-drinking issues have gotten. i'm having just enough water to function, basically. i'm a little bit thirsty most of the time and i just. won't. drink. i am thirsty right now there is a cup of water within reach and i am NOT DRINKING IT and i don't know whyyyy. the very act of drinking has become unpleasant and something to avoid. and like, i can't just drink other things. i loathe juice and energy drinks, i choke on carbonation, i can't have dairy and i don't like drinking oat/nut milks straight. i only like heavily diluted lemonade. and now water tastes bad and drinking in general just FEELS bad, the thought of it makes me feel ill. i can only tolerate drinking at meals basically and i can't just eat all day in order to drink! i know one factor was that they did mandatory apartment renovations and replaced my fridge with a worse one that has no dispenser or filter for ice/water, so it's a hassle to get ice and the water is unfiltered and tastes lousy. but i got a brita pitcher and....it's hard to lift and doesn't help. the problem predates the fridge though it just accelerated it. (also it's a fridge you have to bend down to get into and with fibro and vertigo it's just hell to use but that's a rant for another day)
i'm not a picky eater, beyond not being able to have dairy i eat most things, i'm a picky drinker.....i worked really hard to not be a picky eater but i never. worked on drinks. bc i thought water was enough. but now water is Bad
the kicker is that kidney stones run in my family and my dad has severe ones and i absolutely cannot let this continue or i am risking severe health problems and i'm STILL NOT DOING IT and i don't know why. it's horrible. i feel like a child lmao
anyway all of this to say that i think getting a really good water bottle that meets all my incredibly demanding specifics would be helpful. but the specifics are insane. straw style, no "bad" textures (there are many bad textures), dishwasher safe, not too big or too small, not heavy (i can't lift shit bc fibro), ideally "cute" to help motivate me to use it, leakproof, easy and fast to assemble......i'm in shopping hell rn trying to find something. why are all the straws SILICONE. i am not putting squishy in my mouth! gross!!!!
basically my sensory issues may be slightly out of control. i genuinely don't know what they are, if it's an ocd thing or i have something else undiagnosed, but they've pretty much gone ignored. i've had them my whole life but the last few years have gotten crazy. had to revamp my wardrobe, cut off my hair, the whole nine yards just to function. i only wear a mask in crowded or otherwise super-important situations because i can't tolerate it anymore when it used to be unpleasant but fine....i had to throw out all my pants.....i need noise canceling headphones all the time but they also hurt my ears and i can't tolerate earplugs at all........it SUCKS. sucks. i'm 26. this was not a problem when i was 6. i feel like i'm just going backwards and i'm sad about it.

This is the Hydros, 40oz Water Filter Slim Pitcher.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I bought this when I moved over a year ago, and my new place had a tiny fridge. It cost me $23.99 over a year ago on Amazon, and surprisingly, it's still priced at $23.99 today. Since then, I've relocated and now have a larger fridge. Although I had always intended to upgrade to a bigger pitcher, I found that the Hydros pitcher was still working perfectly fine, and it felt wasteful to buy a new one unnecessarily. However, about a month ago, disaster struck when I accidentally knocked it off the counter, causing it to crack upon hitting the floor. It's a shame because I genuinely loved using the Hydros pitcher. I would definitely recommend it to others, especially considering that its filters are more affordable compared to popular brands like Brita. Had I seen it in stores, I might have bought it again to replace the broken one.
Verdict: I don't regret purchasing the Hydros pitcher since I needed a functional pitcher at the time. However, I do wish I had been less clumsy. Speaking of which, during a recent shopping trip, I noticed that Brita pitchers were on sale, so I decided to buy one. Unfortunately, I don't currently have a means of recycling it, so it will end up in the trash.
Just a note, getting rid of some things feels good, but this one doesn't. It no longer serves a function, but I guess I'm just mad about breaking it.

Stage 1: your local tap water is potable (safe to drink), but at-home water filtration products are marketed to increase "flavor" and "purity." these products are not actually capable of sanitizing unsafe water, and do not replace access to clean water. meanwhile, "lifestyle" bottled water becomes more popular due to heavy marketing. bottled water is not a necessity, but a stylish accessory.
Stage 2: your tap water is probably potable. the public water system is entering decline. poor and rural areas are at risk, but access to clean water is not seen as a mainstream issue. meanwhile, at-home filter technology has become more advanced. consumers are now familiar with filtration products (most have a starter product such as a 'Brita') and more willing to invest in higher-cost options. however, only the most expensive filtration can actually replace access to clean water--at this point, drinkable tap water is still the expectation, and its absence would cause serious inconvenience to the middle-class (who prefer but are not reliant on bottled and home-filtered water).
Stage 3: the public water system is solidly in decline. the quality of your tap water is deteriorating. Its safety is unknown and regarded with suspicion. when you call the public utilities department to complain, they recommend buying a water filter. you contact your local representatives, but they are unconcerned--you are one of a small number of callers (most people just buy a home filter), and you aren't wealthy enough for your vote to matter (if you were, you would already own a home filter). reluctantly, you pick up a few gallons of water from the grocery store, and pull out your phone to look up water filter brands. your more vulnerable neighbors have fewer options--many continue to drink the water, aware that they are being exposed to unknown health risks beyond their control.
Stage 4: the public water system is collapsing. your tap water is not potable. it will make you sick. this is acceptable because at-home filtration--now advanced enough to replace safe tap water--is a commonplace appliance in middle-class households. lower-income groups must rely on rented/community filters or bottled water. expensive and often aspirational, home filters are now analogous to washing machines: where the middle-class can wash their clothes & filter their water at home, those on tight budgets must rely on laundromats & water delivery. the rich of course don't give a damn--they have cleaners to do their laundry, and their taps are connected to a clean private source.
(and, of course, they own stock in Nestle.)
putting my prediction on record now that the coming decade is going to see the rise of viral-marketed fancy at-home water filtration systems, driving and driven by a drastic reduction in the quality of U.S. tap water (given that we are in a 'replacement era' where our current infrastructure is reaching the end of its lifespan--but isn't being replaced). also guessing that by the 2030s access to drinkable tap water will be a mainstream class issue, with low-income & unstably housed people increasingly forced to rely on expensive bottled water when they can't afford the up-front cost of at-home filtration--and with this being portrayed in media as a "moral failing" and short-sighted "choice," rather than a basic failure of our political & economic systems. really hope i'm just being alarmist, but plenty of this already happens in other countries, and the U.S. is in a state of decline, so. here's praying this post ages into irrelevance. timestamped April 2023

Wellness Water Filtration Systems in Atlantic City, NJ: A Comprehensive Guide to Clean and Healthy Water
Introduction
Atlantic City, NJ, known for its vibrant boardwalk, bustling casinos, and scenic beaches, is a city that thrives on its coastal charm. However, as residents and businesses alike understand, ensuring the quality of tap water is crucial for health and wellness. This is where wellness water filtration systems come into play, providing an effective solution for clean and healthy water. In this blog, we'll explore the importance of water filtration, the benefits of wellness water systems, and how to choose the right system for your needs in Atlantic City.
[more about us]
Why Water Filtration is Essential
Atlantic City's water supply, like many urban areas, can be subject to contamination from various sources. These include industrial pollutants, agricultural runoff, and aging infrastructure. Common contaminants found in tap water can include:
Chlorine and Chloramines: Used for disinfection but can have adverse health effects.
Lead: Often leaches from old pipes and fixtures.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): Industrial chemicals that can seep into water supplies.
Microorganisms: Bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can cause illness.
A high-quality water filtration system is essential to remove these contaminants and provide safe, clean drinking water.
Benefits of Wellness Water Filtration Systems
Wellness water filtration systems offer several key benefits that go beyond standard filtration:
Enhanced Health Benefits: These systems not only remove harmful contaminants but often add beneficial minerals back into the water, promoting better health and hydration.
Improved Taste and Odor: By removing chlorine and other chemicals, filtered water tastes and smells better, encouraging more water consumption.
Cost-Effective: Over time, using a water filtration system can be more economical than purchasing bottled water, which also reduces plastic waste.
Eco-Friendly: Reducing reliance on bottled water helps decrease plastic pollution, making it a more sustainable choice for the environment.
Convenience: Modern filtration systems are easy to maintain and provide a continuous supply of clean water directly from the tap.
Choosing the Right Wellness Water Filtration System
When selecting a water filtration system in Atlantic City, consider the following factors:
Water Quality Analysis: Start with a water quality test to identify the specific contaminants present in your water supply. This will help you choose a system tailored to your needs.
Filtration Technology: Look for systems that use advanced filtration technologies, such as reverse osmosis, activated carbon, or UV purification, depending on your water quality analysis.
Certification: Ensure the system is certified by reputable organizations like NSF International, which sets standards for water quality and safety.
Capacity and Flow Rate: Choose a system that can handle your household’s water usage without compromising on flow rate.
Installation and Maintenance: Consider the ease of installation and the availability of replacement parts and filters. Some systems require professional installation, while others can be set up by homeowners.
Recommended Wellness Water Filtration Systems in Atlantic City
Here are a few top-rated wellness water filtration systems that are well-suited for homes and businesses in Atlantic City:
