Didn’t actually get tagged on this, but it looked like a fun one. 🤣

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

AO3 says I have 24. Huh.

2. What is your total AO3 word count?

288,626 since I started in 2021, which seemed like a lot to me until I realized 179,551 of those belong to the second thing I ever wrote, a massive 4 part series covering from Rio’s resurrection to their inevitable HEA.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Veronica Mars brought me to AO3. The Punisher (Kastle) made me think for the first time about writing prompts, but it was the Good Girls (Brio) fandom that finally got me to put the proverbial pen to paper.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Ooh, definitely Enemy of My Enemy. Hardest fic for me to finish. Not fluffy. No HEA. Rio is aaaaaangry.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Hmm… there’s a lot to choose from cause I looooove a soft, fluffy Brio. If you can slog through the 4 part series, it covers the most ground, ending years after the show. It’s loosely based on canon to start, but veers off.

8. Do you get hate on your fics?

Hmm… Not really. Luckily just one I can think of. A vague accusation that all my ideas were suspiciously like a lot of other ones on AO3… except those other writers did it way better. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I blocked them and figured if anything, it meant I’d finally “made it”. 😂

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I try to. I aim for the kind I think people will enjoy reading, but I often alternate between worrying it’s either a little too cheesy, or over the top.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I don’t, but I would never say never. There are some I would *love* for other people to write, though. Karen Page (Punisher) and Steve Rogers (Captain America)… Intrepid reporter interviews national hero after the Battle of New York. Neither are looking for anything, but sparks fly. Anyone? Anyone??? 🤣

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don’t think so?

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but wouldn’t it be awesome if AO3 had a button that would do that automatically?

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Again, no. I won’t say it would never happen, but I’m a bit of a lone wolf writer. Strict deadlines, etc are tough for me, so I think I’d find a co-writing situation very stressful.

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

It has to be Brio. 🥰

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

This is a tough one. I don’t tend to release fics until they’re finished, so I don’t have any orphaned stories out there crying out for a happy ending. I do have a dozen or so ideas that are in various stages of completion. Some are almost done(ish), so I suspect the ones that are less likely to get finished are the ones that are literally a sentence fragment… barely a complete idea. I mean, they’re great random scattered thoughts, but… Yeah.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I’ve been told my Brio characterizations are good.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Hmmm… Dialogue and smut. My descriptions aren’t bad, but my writing style isn’t as “flowy” as I’d sometimes like.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I’m not bilingual, so if I include another language in a fic I tend to keep it fairly short and straightforward to lessen the chance of getting it wrong.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Good Girls. First and only.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

I don’t mind rereading (most of) my own stuff. I have a special soft spot for ones where Brio interacts with the kids, like Smarter Than Your Average Gang Friend (Rio gets shown up by the Jane), and In Sickness (Jane’s sick and Rio shows Beth an uncharacteristic kindness).

Ahhh thank you so much for taking time to find those fics! I love reading them and tbh they were excellent (of course) haha but I remember this fic was a bit longer I think? Definitely still swim team vibes but might be high school. I think they were close at one point then enemies for a bit before they got together. I remember a part where her family asked about why she didn’t talk about him or something? Again, might be totally losing it here haha but I appreciate the help! 🤍

From the vague to razor-sharp edges, yes, we've had it, busy not doing much during the magnificent essence of the RANDOM SWEEPINGS... during the lovely last month of June (were you there?). 

A somewhat urgent demand for an explanation by a Proust Questionnaire enthusiast, and so it's time for a mea maxima culpa... DJ KI certainly has countless flaws, allowing us to bypass this particularly uncomfortable zone. With our (very, very relative) bad faith having done its job, it is (perhaps) high time to delve into this unfortunate stage, let's dive in quickly...

An EP, 2 tracks, to embark on an adventure, Vanessa Jeantrelle (DJ KI) confirms her need for wanderlust, a joyful necessity undertaken in her previous summer release. 

"Allow Me To Insist" asserts, brilliantly, the multiplication of previously unstable layers, an emulsion that quickly develops a constantly accelerating sonic space, the speed reached becomes as exhilarating as a high-altitude jump. 

"Wall Of Ten" back to the ground, the landing is brief, meandering promenade, freestyle, skillful rhythmic collision for mutant jazz.

Do you think Beth really believed Rio was coming after them after the truck thing in 1.09? I always just assumed she was jumping to conclusions and was so far out of her depth ("He looked at me funny"), but was there something else to it? Did she really want to take him down deep down?

Hi Anon! Thank you for the ask! Idk if I have a super good answer though. I’ve always considered this scene more based on the mistakes Rio made in underestimating Beth’s reaction. IDK why I haven’t thought more in-depth about why she behaved the way she did.

Unless I’m misremembering, everything in that episode showed her anger, and none of her actions around Rio signified fear. I don’t think she was even jumping to conclusions about what he might do to them. I think she was just mad. Yet another man putting her in her place, taking away her power and her financial “security” because he decided her life for her. So she retaliated. Her “we’re good people” excuse was just a cover to get her girls on board. It’s the line she uses all the time to manipulate people (including Rio.) “I’m a good person. I’m a mother. I eat at P. F. Chang’s.”

The fact that this woman can never think through the consequences of her choices surrounding Rio truly astounds me. She cannot be so stupid to blindly lash out and expect nothing to happen to her. I’ve been kind of thinking about this irritating aspect of her behavior. The ways in which she hurts Rio over and over, even once she sees the actual hurt on him, she doesn’t stop. Contrast that with how she enables Dean over and over, who has a proven track record of lying to her and actively harming her. So it makes so little sense why she would lash out, even contrary to her own wellbeing, in this particular situation. She couldn’t have expected that he would be imprisoned forever just because she gave up some laundering details. So what then? Was it a cry for his attention? A cry to be seen? It’s gotta be. Her nihilistic tendencies come through so strong around Rio. He brings it out in her. So it’s like she doesn’t even care what happens to her, as long as he keeps looking at her, as long as she’s feeling that power he makes her feel.

Which brings us back to what was so polarizing about Beth to so many viewers — she’s selfish af. She doesn’t want to be. She’s torn. She keeps thinking if she just does one more shitty thing to Rio, she will prove her goodness to the universe. Prove that she’s worthy of having a husband who’s faithful, and children who don’t struggle with emotional disorders, and friends who choose her even over their own husbands. This woman has been abandoned and scarred so deeply in her formative years that she’s absolutely desperate to matter and to be chosen. (Kinda like someone else we know.) But Rio seems to be her one “safe space” to be herself. “Just being myself.” And while that may sound romantic (and it IS), it’s also toxic af because for her to be “herself” she has to all the time behave abusively (ugh, I hate that word because it isn’t quite accurate to their dynamic but idk what other thing to call it… maybe retaliatory?) toward Rio. He feeds the monster that she hides from others. He isn’t a “good person” so it’s fine for her to take her trauma out on him. And he keeps coming back for more. And he keeps wanting her despite it. It’s that good old cycle of abuse, continually perpetuated. They find so much warped validation in each other they can’t quit.

Anyway, I went off on a tangent. Sorry about that! These asks are so helpful in getting me back into a Brio state of mind. Reminds me how I love analyzing them. 😊 Makes me wanna not work and write Brio stories (that I’ve been stagnant on for like 2 months now 😩)

WE CAN WORK IT OUT

After the disappointment of the carpentry work being delayed, I set to, sorting out all the different variations of track. My plan was to get a track layout in place, such that it could be transferred onto the modified board as soon as the carpenter had done the work tomorrow. Fortunately, Casa Newton is extremely spacious, so there was room for this. Whilst my Grandad knowledge of Brio stood me in good stead, it still took me most of the day to complete.

Summary:

Rio’s been back from the dead for a few weeks. Turner’s finally been taken care of, but he’s having a hard time tracking down his bad egg. He hears nothing from his sources on the street about three suburban bitches trying to offload funny money, there are no sightings of her at the bar, the playground, etc, so he starts watching the house. For days he and his guys take shifts. The van sits in the driveway, but the lights never come on, and no one comes or goes apart from the mailman, adding to a growing pile on the front step. After a week of this, his patience snaps and one afternoon he decides to check it out.

Notes:

I’m really, really struggling to wrap up an ongoing Brio fic, so I figured clearly the best way to make sure I got it finished was to completely procrastinate and spend the rest of my day off trying to finally work out how to post links to Tumblr to all the things I’ve actually completed. 🤣 This was the first piece of fanfic I ever wrote. Does anyone else get the urge to go back and edit completed works once they’ve been living out in the wild for a while? Just me?

I’m rly apathetic toward crash team rumble as a whole coz like I hate multiplayer games that are competitive, I’m not a competitive person.

But I’m rly happy we get Catbat outta this, the first canon LGBTQ+ character in the series, at least the first that’s not being reduced down to a stereotype or joke. It’s rly nice to see when the series has had a terrible track record with LGBTQ+ rep in the past. I hope there’s more in the other characters & I would also like to see some genuine rep in some of the existing characters too (like hey what’s up with Brio’s egg?)

Still probably won’t get the game itself coz I hate Activision Blizzard as an awful abusive company & I don’t like that kinda game, but I’m happy for this at least.

I like the idea of putting characters in reverse situations either reverse Canon or reverse to the situation that they were in.

Good Girls Brio: Beth , Ruby and Annie are professional bankrobbers. When they try to pull off the biggest heist of their career they find out that a married father of one, Rio along with his friend Mick, who is down on his luck and desperate for money has beat them to the job.

Beth tracks Rio down and threatens him to pay her every penny that he stole. They get entangled with each other both professionally and personally as Beth cuts Rio in on their heists

Star Wars: Reylo: Rey and Ben meet in college and fall madly in love. Rey starts planning for their future but discovers that Ben has been keeping a secret from her, he's in a long distance relationship with his childhood sweetheart and has asked the other woman to marry him under pressure from his Mother, Leia. Rey feels betrayed and breaks off their relationship.

Ten years later Rey and Ben reunite when they run into eachother at a coffeshop. Ben is now divorced and Rey is engaged. Rey realizes she's still in love with Ben but isn't sure if she can give Ben her heart again without ending up heartbroken again.
