See the issue with being a BBC Sherlock fan is that because of the long hiatus we rely on ao3.

So when AO3 is down we head to Tumblr

But my Tumblr keeps crashing

So I’m left reading old downloads on my e-reader but if it’s out of power I curl up in a little ball and just cry…

And then I blog about it on Tumblr

What if it’s all a big plan and the hiatus was planned all along and Mofftiss are bluffing and the show will come back and Johnlock is endgame and everything is right with the world

As I’m writing this, the future of Sherlock is still unknown. We get little bits of information, little clues every month that circulate round the fandom and then die down. And this will keep on happening. To be honest, I don’t know why I still want another season. Having been given time to think on the show since I finished it, one thing stays with me. Because although I loved watching the show, although it gave me so much joy and hope and happiness, the one thing that stayed with me most was that I feel lied to. Just to be clear, this isn’t ‘I ship Johnlock and they are so cute together’. This is the fact that whatever happened, they were acted as being in love with each other. I’m asexual and aromantic and I could tell that they loved each other in a romantic sense. And it’s not the fact that they never kissed, or didn’t become boyfriends or husbands, it’s the fact that it was never acknowledged or confirmed in any sense. And that makes me feel lied to, and that makes other people feel lied to, because they saw something there and were told they were wrong but they know that they were right. But regardless, I still want one more series. Why? Because regardless of how lied to I feel, regardless of how unseen members of LGBTQ communities felt, regardless of how much upset and anger the show caused, I love it. Even though it caused me pain and sadness, it is still my favourite show.

Just for a second, imagine. Imagine that this is all a great plan. The writers have been bluffing all along, the hiatus was planned, and finally the true story will be told when Series 5 comes out.

That’s not what’s going to happen.

I’ve stopped trying to kid myself.

In reality, we’ll keep getting empty words and fake assurances that it Might Happen At Some Point If We Have Time. This is by no means the fault of any of the writers or actors, they are all very busy people but it’s still disheartening every time there’s new information and again, nothing happens.

Let’s just be real for a minute here. Sherlock Series 5 will probably never happen. And I’ve almost resigned myself to that fact.

But there is still a tiny glimmer of hope. Maybe, if we’re very, very lucky, it will return. And even though it probably won’t (and if it will that’s my luck supply over and I shouldn’t ever buy a lottery ticket), if it does, somehow return, then I may just feel the joy and happiness I did when I first started watching it in English class a year ago.

So if Sherlock does return, and it would take a miracle, but if it does, it will cause so much happiness that is may offset the sadness it caused when it ended seven years ago.

Don’t give up.

Trust what you know was there.

And one day, in one adaptation, whether it’s in 2025 or 2030 or 3000, Johnlock will be canon.
