Benefits and Methods of Thursday Fasting in Hinduism

Purpose of Fasting and Pooja:-

The fast is done mainly for the welfare of married life, especially to remove any difficulties if there may be. It is also observed by those who look forward t an early marriage. On this day Lord Brihaspati is worshipped. Method of Fasting:

On the fasting day, the person must wake up early – before sunrise. After taking bath which is devoid of head wash, he must wear yellow coloured dress as yellow is the colour of Lord Brihaspati. The Lord is then worshipped with everything that is yellow – yellow dal, yellow flowers, yellow coloured sweets, yellow rice, turmeric, etc. The person must have meals devoid of salt. After worship, yellow sweets must be offered as Prasad and ideally must donate yellow clothing. The puja must be completed through recitation of Katha meant for Thursday Fasting. Saffron milk is also donated to the God on this day.
