"Yuu-Yuu hurt." Part 12
Part 1 | Part 11 | Part 13
The mad scientist is dragged away by magical officers and the boys are brought to the police station, where they give their statements. Now that they're safe and Yuu is being seen by capable adults, the adrenaline tapers off and exhaustion seeps in. Most of them fall asleep as soon as they sit down in the waiting room.
Those who are still awake don't say anything to each other or whoever enters the waiting room. They instead look out the window, noticing the still dark skies, or impatiently glance at the clock, wanting the shuttle bus to arrive already so he could sleep and put the whole damn night behind him. It's still unbelievable what had happened, and the sleep-deprived haze makes it seem like a wild nightmare.
The entrance slides open. In walks Sebek, Ortho, Grim, and the teddy bear. Epel roughly shakes Deuce and Ace awake as the Diasomnia trio quickly approach Sebek. "Has there been any issue?" Malleus asks.
"No. Yuu was brought safely to the mages."
The tension in the room lessens. "That is excellent news. Thank you all for your efforts."
Sebek, despite his exhaustion, beams while Ortho says that it wasn't a problem. They are all ushered to a chair or waved over to an empty spot. Grim plops into a seat beside Ace and the teddy bear sits next to him. Before the First Years can ask Grim and the teddy bear for details, the two suddenly collapse against each other and free fall into sleep.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He and the others are in the warehouse-like room.
Yuu and the ink monster are screaming. It leaps towards some classmates to his left. He moves away, readying a spell and shooting it.
COUGH COUGH
Yuu is doubled over, a hand covering their mouth as the other hand grips their knee. Ink seeps between their fingers, and when they take a trembling breath and raise their head, it leaks from their eyes like tears. Somehow, despite the distance, he hears them exhale. . . and then their eyes roll back and they fall to the floor.
The ink that trickles out of their mouth seems to have a red shine. He doesn't have time to yell for them because in a moment, the ink monster is above them and its body is falling apart, much like a rapidly melting candle. He raises his wand with a spell on his tongue--
An ink stained hand grips his wrist. He turns and his breath leaves his lungs. A familiar face grins back at him. Garbled words echo in his ears that bring with them unbearable discomfort and nausea.
"They must become one of us, or else they don't belong."
He yells something back while wrenching his hand away, either a "No they don't" or "Shut up!" The familiar face only cackles and points behind him.
Half of Yuu's body is inside the broken glass head of the ink monster. Pupiless eyes bore into his own. "No."
The rest of the body is sucked further in. He thinks he hears a raspy groan, but it's overcome by a loud, disgusting slushing sound like worms writhing.
He wants to hurl.
He wants to cry.
He feels so useless.
"YUU!!!"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ace's eyes snap open, heart racing like when he and the others had fled from the ink monster in the mines from a long time ago. His eyes land on a mini basketball hoop hanging high against a red and black irregularly striped wall. Right beside his head and slightly obscured by a scarlet cotton curtain, is an armoire so goofily curved it's like it came straight out of a whimsical tale. He's back in his bedroom; he remembers trudging to the Mirror Chamber after getting off the shuttle bus, bumping into someone or a chair or something, and then nothing.
Something moves against his chest. He realizes his arms are crossed and holding onto a soft but firm thing. He looks down and meets the beady black eyes of Yuu's sentient teddy bear. "Ace okay?" it asks.
His mind flashes back to a conversation from last night.
"I've been thinking about this for a while," Ortho said, pulling all attention to him. "I'm sure most of us know this by now, but for those who don't: Yuu's teddy bear has an unusual ability that lets it know when Yuu gets injured and where they are. Yuu has been held captive for three weeks, and during that time, the teddy bear was acutely aware that they were injured and hidden in that forest."
"I can't imagine what it would be like to be it during those weeks, knowing that someone it deeply cares about is so close but out of reach. I'm afraid of trying to run a simulation."
The teddy bear nuzzled closer to Grim, who hugged it tighter. "I must confess, it's impressive it didn't have a breakdown during those weeks," Jade said. "It's made me wonder what it would have done if none of us had tried searching for Yuu ourselves."
"Yeah, I'm okay." Before Ace realizes it, he's petting the teddy bear's head. It accepts the affection and leans into his hand.
He hears some muttering behind him. Holding the teddy bear more securely to his chest, he rolls over. He lets out a scoff; Grim had somehow ended up upside down and his tail was in Deuce's face. He starts to laugh when Grim's tail flicks and hits the Spade student, but quickly stops when Grim mutters almost tearfully, "Yuu, don't die!"
Ace then notices the damp fur around Grim's eyes and how hard Deuce was grinding his teeth (he was actually afraid Deuce was going to chip a tooth this time). He gets out of bed and feels dull soreness in his joints and muscles. Any open wounds had been small and treated at the police station; simple bruises were left alone. He trudges to the other side of the room with the teddy bear in one arm. "Deuce. Deuce! Grim! Wake up!"
As expected, nothing. He suddenly remembers the other roommates and glances over, but finds the beds empty. Come to think of it, what time was it?
Putting the teddy bear on the bed, Ace places a hand on Grim's tummy and reaches over to grab Deuce's shoulder. He yells their names and shakes them, which manages to startle them awake. "Phew. About time."
Deuce blearily looks around as Grim slowly sits up. He sighs, relieved. "It was only a dream."
"Let me guess, dreaming about last night?"
"Yeah. You were too, right?"
"How could I not? It was more stressful than dealing with the other Overblots."
"It was." Deuce sighs again, but then squints at Ace. ". . . Were you crying?"
"Huh?!" He touches his cheek. Tears had dried on his face, mixing with red makeup when they were still fresh. Deuce was the same, having black makeup smudged down his cheek. Grim is touching his own face and seems surprised that he too had cried in his sleep. "Guess I was."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notices were sent to the boys' phones: once the school day had ended, all of them needed to report to the auditorium in person. Ace was dreading the lecture he and the others were sure to be getting, but the dread worsened upon seeing all the homeroom teachers standing beside a seriously stern headmaster. For the next however many minutes--which felt more likes hours--the headmaster scolded the students for being so reckless and other things. With how much anger and exasperation was behind the headmaster's words, it brought Ace back to the time he and Grim got yelled at for scorching the Queen of Hearts statue. The homeroom teachers' disapproving glares, combined with sitting in the front row, made Ace sweat and try to look anywhere but the front.
"I'm especially appalled by the dorm leaders and the vice dorm leaders," Crowley said, and the underclassmen were a little relieved that they weren't targeted anymore. "The fourteen of you--especially the dorm leaders and those with upstanding social positions--should have known better than to partake in such a highly consequential folly! Whatever you or anyone has to say on this matter will not excuse the danger you have allowed yourselves and others under your care to be in."
There was a moment of tense, suffocating silence. Crowley huffed. "That said, I can't say I'm not proud of you all."
"HUH?!"
It was like a switch had flipped: Crowley was smiling at the students now and exuding joy. "You all banded together to search and rescue one of your peers. Not only did you do just that successfully, but you also saved the other kidnap victims and kept them safe while there was an Overblot incident. You all showed such capability during a dangerous situation and so much care for one of your own--it brings tears to my eyes!"
"I know you said there was no excuse for what we just did, but we really couldn't sit around waiting for something to happen," Kalim said.
"And of course, we couldn't turn down the plead of their dear teddy bear to find them, not when they mean so much to it," Azul said, a palm to his chest to express "sincerity".
Glances were cast towards the teddy bear. It was silently staring out the window.
Crowley put his hands on his hips. "Al-Asim, Ashengrotto, I trust you both won't make the same lapse in judgment during your time as students?"
"Ah, well--"
"If you make the same decision as the one you took for rescuing Yuu next time, it could end terribly. It goes the same for all of you. No matter what happens, do not run blindly into danger. Is that clear?"
"Yes, sir," the students choired.
"Headmaster, could I ask you something?" Ace asks. "Have you made any progress at all in finding Yuu a way back home?"
The headmaster clearly wasn't expecting the question--the lights in his eyes seemed to widen and his mouth parted in surprise. The homeroom teachers turn to look at him; it seems they were curious to hear his answer too. In a moment, he was collected, but there was a sort of shaky undertone that undermined it. "Well, to be quite honest, I've been unable to make as much progress as I wanted given the hectic events this school year. I did offer them some pointers on where to look for possible answers, but their circumstance is unique. It would be an arduous and long process finding anything useful."
"Of course it would be! They don't know a lick about magic," Grim argues. "And you haven't made any progress at all because you were busy goofing off."
The lights in Crowley's mask narrow and grow brighter. "I beg your pardon? Is that any way to speak to your headmaster, who works diligently to ensure this school runs well and maintains its prestigious reputation? This sort of work is no easy feat, especially since there are so many misbehaving and reckless students to watch over."
"When winter break came around, you were ready to go vacationing and forgot all about finding Yuu a way home," Grim says.
"Headmaster Crowley, is that true?" Professor Trein asks, fixing him with a stern glare.
When Crowley started to seem shifty, Professor Trein snapped at him and a low growl came from Lucius. "Did you leave alone two students on campus with no means to get food for themselves and no supervision? I advised you numerous times to have them placed in an inn at the foot of the hill. What if something happened to them?"
"I've also been wondering, what did you find in your research of returning Yuu back to their world?" Professor Crewel asks.
"It's as I said before: not as much progress as I wanted."
"So basically, you found jack shit," Floyd says, which causes many heads to snap his way and Crowley to make an offended sound. The headmaster doesn't manage to get a word in when someone speaks up.
"If you're having trouble with searching, you could always ask for help," Kalim suggests.
"I'm sure finding information about crossing universes is by no means an easy task, but surely you could have been transparent about your progress?" Azul points out.
"Ah, that. . ." For the next hour or two, Crowley was in an uncomfortable position.

A fun question popped into my head while I was watching old twisted wonderland gacha videos.
What would happen if other Twisted Wonderland characters overbloted ?
How difficult would it be to deal with them ?
How would their unique magic work in this state ?
So I have decided to make a list of headcanons for all of the non-overblot NRC students answering those questions.
Heartslabyul
Ace Trappola ❤️ :
-considering the fact that he doesn’t have his unique magic yet, he would be less difficult to deal with then others.
- But his wind magic could make things get out of hand so he still remains a threat.
- There’s not much I can say about him tbh.
Deuce Spade ♠️ :
- Already more of a problem than Ace !
- Not only is he more used to fighting without magic.
- But his Unique Magic [Bet the limit] would allow him to stock up all the damage dealt to him only to send it back to his attacker twofold.
- You would have to BET your life every time you attacked him, the only way to stop him would be to keep hitting him and hope you beat him before he releases your attacks back to you.
Cater Diamond ♦️ :
- 1 overblot is already bad.
- Now imagine that Overblot duplicating itself, all of its copies having the same abilities as the original.
- Cater’s [Split Card] boosted by the Phantom would make him an absolute nightmare.
- And he’s also pretty skilled in magic due to him being a third year.
- Let’s not forget that Cater canonically beat Floyd with his Unique Magic, He is not messing around !
Trey Clover 🍀 :
- ALSO A MASSIVE PROBLEM.
- Trey’ s [Doodle Suit] allows him to overwrite any element he chooses, including other people’s magic (As seen against Riddle’s overblot during Book 1).
- His Unique Magic is OP in this scenario especially when it is boosted by the Phantom.
- Imagine not being able to do anything at all against Trey, if it’s THAT boosted even Malleus could potentially be weakened.
- Also a 3rd year like Cater so he is definitely more adept at using magic than a regular 1st or 2nd year.
(- side tangent : In the English Manga of Twisted Wonderland, Trey’s Unique Magic is called [Doodle Suit] in the 2nd volume but it’s changed to [Paint the roses] in the 3rd volume. Like, make up your mind.)
Savanaclaw
Ruggie Bucchi 🍩 :
- Remember when he could control an entire crowd of people with his Unique Magic after drinking a potion from Azul ?
- Imagine how many people he could control now that he has a constant buff from his Phantom…
- That is terrifying.
- He could use your friends and family as a meat shield, he could force you to kill them.
- If he overblots at least one person is going to die or be severely wounded.
Jack Howl 🐺 :
- Physically speaking, Jack could do a lot of damage.
- And he can definitely maul someone by transforming into a wolf with [Unleash Beast].
- But other than those, he would be similar to Ace in the way that he is not that OP compared to others.
Octavinelle
Jade & Floyd Leech 🦈 :
- Hear me out, they would definitely overblot at the same time.
- And there would be hell to pay.
- Jade’s [Shock the heart] won’t be useful in battle, but Floyd’s [Bind the heart] would allow all attacks to miss both him and Jade.
- And while you could potentially make that magic fail by making Floyd demotivated. Something tells me that Jade might be able to make sure THAT doesn’t happen.
- They have been working together since they were born and have survived a brutal ocean. They can work together almost perfectly (as seen in the Octavinelle book)
- I also believe that they would revert back to their mer-form like Azul did and therefore be just as fast on land as they are in the sea.
(- also it’s implied that Jade chose Floyd out of all his siblings and both of them either killed/canibalized or let their siblings die. The Ocean is its own kind of unforgiving jungle.)
Scarabia
Kalim Al-Asim 🔱 :
-Kalim’s overblot would be sad not because of his backstory but because unlike the others overblots.
- He would (un)consciously use his Unique Magic [Oasis Maker] (a symbol of life) to drown both himself and everyone else.
- After all he can fill up an entire dried river while using very little magic, imagine that paired with the Phantom Boost.
- He would probably overblot because of guilt or pent up sadness and that would lead him to…
Flood the whole world with his tears.
Pomefiore
Rook Hunt 🪶:
- While not physically dangerous, Rook is an excellent hunter and manipulator.
- He knows almost everything about everyone.
- He knows how they look, how they act, who they cherish most and what their weaknesses are.
- His objective would probably be to capture every person that he finds ‘beautiful’ and to try and keep them by his side forever like precious art pieces.
- FULL ON YANDERE
- Worst part is his Unique Magic [I see you] allows him to know EXACTLY where you are. And you won’t know if you you have been targeted by him since it’s magical signature is extremely weak.
- It also works on objects !
- Even if you manage to hide somewhere he can’t reach, he could still use a family member or another loved one to lure you out.
- He’s not scary because he is super-powerful, he is scary because he knows exactly what you are going to do and how to exploit your weaknesses.
Epel Felmier 🍎 :
— While normally he wouldn’t too threatening due to him being a weaker magician than Vil.
- His Unique Magic [Sleep Kiss] allows him to trap people/robots into crystal coffins that make the victim fall asleep.
- They would be forever trapped inside a glass coffin making them unable to be hurt but also unable to stop Epel.
- The only saving grace is that Epel’s Unique Magic has a 75% hit rate. So there’s a 25% chance that he misses. It’s better than nothing !
Ignihyde
They technically both overbloted. So….next.
Diasomnia
Lilia Vanrouge 🦇 :
- Him overblotting would probably make all of his magic come back as if he was in his prime.
- And Lilia is scary powerful to begin with but he can potentially go toe to toe with Malleus if he has both his experience as well as his original magical and physical abilities (as seen in Book 7).
- His Unique Magic wouldn’t be very useful in this case but he is still a very big threat to everyone around him while he’s in Overblot.
Silver (Vanrouge) 🗡️ :
- Similar to Jack in the sense that…
- While he is physically powerful (swordsmanship and being taught by Lilia) and is probably extremely adept at using magic.
- I don’t think he is too much of a threat since his Unique Magic [Meet in a dream] only works if he’s asleep and won’t affect anyone who is awake.
- So unless his Unique Magic somehow becomes like Malleus (makes everyone fall asleep/ traps everyone in a dream) or he overblots while everyone is asleep.
- He won’t be too much of a threat unlike others.
Sebek Zigvolt 🐊 :
- While less powerful than Silver and less adept at magic (according to book 7 anyway).
- Sebek’s [ Living Bolt] would make him a bit more threatening due to his Unique Magic allowing him to turn his body into lightning allowing him to be faster and stronger.
- And while the boost will make it so he can use his magic for longer periods of time, I have no doubt that it would cause him so much pain that he would be weak enough to be defeated.
Here we are, my hand hurts and I spent two hours on this !
Feel free to add your own headcanons to this rant !
Have a good day/night !

╰┈➤"Your boyfriend's goals were very clear; Make you happy, spend time with you and defend you from anyone who dared to insult you in any possible way."

╰► Characters: Deuce, Jade, Floyd, Epel.
╰►Note: The prompts are based on words I found interesting and then I put them on a roulette to decide when I would write about them, lol. English is not my first language, so please let me know if there are any grammatical mistakes <3. Not proof read, I haven't written in a long time, so I apologise if anything is out of character.

﹙❥﹚Deuce Spade ❜ ˖ ࣪⊹ ִֶָ
He tries his best, most of the time.
Every time he gets jealous or mad at someone else, he has to remind himself that he’s no longer a delinquent. 'Top students don’t engage in fights', he’d say to himself, even though he was well aware he had been in a few arguments with other students ever since he joined Night Raven College, each time promising himself it wouldn’t happen again.
Until it came to something related to you.
It was Halloween, it was supposed to be fun. You wanted to try a different costume this time, and decided to wear a more eccentric outfit, trying to match the extravagance of the other dorms.
You looked really cute, and Deuce was quick to compliment you, taking your hand with an excited demeanour, walking with you towards the Heartslabyul stand to show the rest of your friends your outfit.
He was really happy, as he walked along you, entertained as he listened to you talking about how you went into town and tried in many costumes before choosing that one, when he was able to hear a comment made by another Hearstlabyul student as they walked by.
"Well, they got no magic and no style, huh? Where did they even get that costume, at the kid's section?"
"Repeat what you just said." Deuce was quick to stop his walk, turning towards the student with a frown on his face.
"I said they look terrible." He answered with a defiant demeanour.
"They look perfect, are you out of your mind?" He got closer to the student with a menacing aura, ready to punch him if it was necessary.
"Not really, I've seen better-dressed scarecrows, why are you even letting them go outside like that?"
That was it.
Before you could even stop him, Deuce threw a punch directly at the guy's face, who wasn't even brave enough to defend himself, instead he just stood there holding his now bleeding nose, seemingly out of words now.
"And just so you know, they can dress however they want! And they got their costume at the adult section, don't say such stupid things!" He screamed as you dragged him out of the place, trying to avoid the small crowd that was starting to form due to the sudden commotion.
"Riddle's gonna kill you if he knows about this, you know?" You commented as you both walked to Ramshackle now, deciding to wait a bit before going to Heartslabyul.
"And It'll be worth it! He had no reason to say that kind of thing about you."
"I don't care, really."
"But I do! No one will insult you in front of me without getting what they deserve."
You giggled softly at his attitude, stopping briefly to plant a kiss on his cheek.
"Well, thank you, my Prince Charming." You watched as he blushed, timidly holding your hand.
"Whe-whenever you need it, my love!"

﹙𖧵ֹֺֽ໋໋݊﹚Jade Leech ❜ ˖ ࣪⊹ ִֶָ
He can definitely fight, but it won't be his first option, unless the other person is the one who starts it, which never happens, because, well, he's Jade Leech.
He prefers to use more efficient techniques to make sure people never bother you again, which is why is widely known around school that no one should mess with Ramshackle's Prefect.
So imagine his surprise when, in the middle of one of his shifts, as you were sitting on one of the stools of the bar while waiting for him to be done, he heard a most unfortunate comment.
"Doesn't Azul always bother everyone about how this is a very distinguished place? I wonder who let them in while looking like that, they look like they came here straight out of bed."
As Jade was walking to a different table, he heard two students from Scarabia, making him promptly direct his gaze towards you, sitting by the bar with your headphones, without being aware of the words directed at you. It was Saturday, and you had stayed at his dorm last night, so you had decided to wear something comfy as you waited for your boyfriend. The outfit of the day was one of Jade's hoodies, which had a small embroidery of a mushroom on the front, along with a loose pair of jeans, as you supposed nobody would look at you in the secluded corner you chose to be.
You looked absolutely adorable in his eyes, and he wouldn't stand for malicious comments about you.
"Is everything alright? Are you enjoying your meal?" He asked politely towards the group of Scarabia students, who froze up immediately when Jade appeared out of nowhere, his smile more frightening than usual.
"Ye-yeah, everything is fine."
"I'm glad to hear that, but..." His smile widened as he got closer to the student who made the comment earlier, whispering so only he could hear. "I wonder if you'd be still fine if Professor Crewel knew about how you cheated on his last exam?" An innocent tone could be heard in his voice.
"How-how did you-?"
"This is a very distinguished place, as you know. It'd be inappropriate to allow patrons with such immoral attitudes to be seen in here."
"Let me talk to Azul, you can't-"
"Uh? What was that? I can't do it, you say?" He raised an eyebrow, a curious expression on his face, as he expected an answer from the nervous student, who knew better than to make Jade Leech angry.
"We-were finished either way, right? Thanks for the service, we'll be going!" The other student interrupted, quickly getting up to get ready to leave.
"Ah, I hope you enjoyed your time here." The vicehousewarden bowed politely. "But I hope you're aware that, if you make such inconvenient comments about my partner, I won't let you go as easily." He added with a close-eyed smile that didn't match his words in the slightest, as the students went away as fast as they could.
"Uhm, Jade? Your shift is about to finish, isn't it?" You asked taking your headphones out of your head to speak to your boyfriend more properly, as he placed one of your favourite drinks in front of you, his smile remaining on his face, but this time being softer.
"Yes, my love, just wait a bit more."

﹙𖧵ֹֺֽ໋໋݊﹚Floyd Leech ❜ ˖ ࣪⊹ ִֶָ
Some days he fights, someday he doesn't care at all, some days he'll let you defend yourself if you want.
Either way, same as Jade, you weren't bothered often. No one would risk enraging the unpredictable Leech twin, and at first, when you started dating, some people wouldn't even look at you at risk of being misunderstood by the Octavinelle second-year.
It was less extreme now, as you've dated him for a while, but there were still some people who preferred to be more cautious around you.
But of course, there'll be always stupid people who'd make rude comments even when Floyd was near.
"Wish me luck, shrimpy!" Your boyfriend looked at you expectant, an excited smile on his face.
"Good luck, Floyd, score some points, okay?" You kissed his cheek softly, giggling when he accommodated the hoodie you were wearing, before going back to the basketball court.
You were in the stands, waiting for the start of a match between Night Raven College and another school which you didn't much about, you just knew that you were supposed to be there to support your boyfriend, and your friends too.
Floyd played better when you were around, and he liked to find you right away in the middle of the crowd, which is why he gave you his hoodie before the match. A hoodie that he likes to wear loose, and considering his height, you wondered if it'd fit you right when he offered it. You were wrong, and now you were sitting while completely drowning in the piece of clothing, making you look a bit out of place. But you didn't care, as long as he was happy.
The match started and everything went smoothly, as Floyd seemed to be on top of his game, scoring points left and right as he watched you cheer on him.
Until a student from the other school spotted you in the middle of the crowd, laughing to himself and then commenting on it with one of his classmates.
"Did you see that one student over there? I wonder if all the students here dress like such a mess, that hoodie is at least four sizes bigger than them."
"Perhaps they didn't even look themselves in the mirror before coming here, how embarrassing."
Floyd frowned as he heard such a comment about you, quickly deciding his strategy. He wouldn't allow words like that to be directed at his little Shrimpy.
"Hey, Floyd, pass it to me- what are you doing?!"
BAM.
The whole gymnasium fell into silence as Floyd threw the ball in the air. The thing was, that instead of being aimed to score a point, it landed on a different place...On the head of the student from the other school.
You could only watch in surprise, as Floyd turned around to show you a thumbs-up, as if he had solved a problem you had no idea about.
"Floyd! What was that?!"
It was a very effective strategy, at least.

﹙𑁍﹚Epel Felmier ❜ ˖ ࣪⊹ ִֶָ
He'll fight at any opportunity that he gets.
After all, that's what a good boyfriend does, right? Defending you from stupid people it's his number one priority, and he wants to show you that you can depend on him.
It reaches a point in which Vil has to intervene, as it has been a regular thing lately, something the housewarden can't allow. 'Brutes don't belong in Pomefiore', is what he tells Epel one day as he scolds him, reminding him there are more ethical ways to solve things. Now he's on observation; one more fight and he'll be punished by cleaning all the windows of the dorm.
Ever since, he has been doing good, and you help him calm down when some stupid student from another dorm says something mean, telling him they don't know anything about the two of you.
But one day, as you both hang out in the Pomefiore lounge, he hears some second-years speak to each other across the room, as if you two weren't literally a few meters away from them.
"Did you see that atrocious sweater? No matter how you look a it, it doesn't match their jeans at all. Vil should stop letting people with such bad taste enter Pomefiore, don't you think?"
"What did ya say about (Y/n)?!" Epel startled you as he suddenly got up from the sofa you both were, quickly walking towards the other Pomefiore students, who observed him with a superior demeanour.
"We were talking about how badly your partner dresses. You're a Pomefiore student, Epel, you should know better than to let them walk outside with such ugly clothing."
"I gifted them that sweater! Take back your words, you idiot!"
"Even worse, you're absolutely tarnishing Pomefiore's reputation by-"
"And the next I'm gonna tarnish is gonna be your face if ya don't apologise to them, so hurry up, would ya?" Epel interrupted, promptly getting ready for fighting.
"Epel, let's just go to my dorm, okay? If you get into another fight you'll get punished." You tried to talk some common sense into him, considering that Vil would immediately know if there was an argument in his dorm.
"They're insulting you, ain't no way I'll letting 'em get away from that."
"But Vil-"
"I don't give a damn 'bout Vil-"
"What's the meaning of this scandal?!"
Well...You'll help him clean those windows, would you?

Characters: Azul Ashengrotto, Jade Leech , Floyd Leech x GN! Reader
Tags: Suggestive because oh wow that's a lot of kissing, Azul forms a Crowley hate club, Crewel being an overprotective dad in Jade's part, Floyd annoys you (lovingly)
Word Count: 2k+ | 💌Masterlist
Tumblr media
A.A | AZUL ASHENGROTTO:
Azul seldom had days off; he was usually dedicated to his office, checking work and finalizing deeds he'd made over the week. Like now, he's busier than ever, especially with the holiday season approaching. You usually would've helped him out if it weren't for Crowley…
The headmaster, ever so generous and kind, was making you run errands for him more than usual. Both of you were so swamped with work that you hadn't seen one other in weeks.
Deciding to take things into their own hands, Jade and Floyd approached you, trying to garner your pity by telling you how 'pathetic' and 'antsy' their boss had gotten during your absence. Floyd amped up the theatrical performance by throwing himself over your shoulder and sobbing crocodile tears over the 'inhumane work conditions' he's been put through. (Azul made him work 10 minutes longer).
To the eel's delight, their terrible acting actually worked and it convinced you to check up on your poor unfortunate little octopus.
You entered Azul's office, carrying a platter of pastries and tea. He was slouched against his chair, reading paperwork in a position that was bound to strain his neck and back.
"Oh, Angelfish?" As you set the tray on a coffee table, Azul stands to greet you. You don't miss how his face lights up when you walk towards him.
"How are you?" You ask, wrapping your arms around his waist while his hands reach up to cup your cheeks. The leather of gloves felt cool against your skin and you sighed happily, closing your eyes.
"Busy, as usual…" Azul muttered and let you guide him to one of the couches in his office. He plopped down onto the chair and groaned in exhaustion, sinking into the velvet plush cushions. "If I have to read another one of those pathetic deals from these Savanaclaw students, I think I'm gonna have a stroke."
Azul's eyes bore into yours, his lips curling into a bitter frown. "It's been nearly a month since we last saw each other…"
"I know. Crowley's been making me work my ass off these days." You smiled apologetically, moving in to press a fleeting kiss against his temple. Azul grumbled, his eyes briefly glancing over the pile of deals atop his desk. There was a mischievous gleam in his eyes as he looked up at you.
"Angelfish. You know I can easily fix that problem for you, no?" Azul spoke lowly, adjusting his gloves with a dark look on his face. Immediately, you shook your head. "No making deals with Crowley."
"Alright, no deals…but say the word and I'll gladly take care of it." Azul muttered, crossing his arms and pushing his glasses up. You chuckled and bent forward to peck his lips in thanks.
However, it seems that Azul missed you more than you thought. You should've known that someone as greedy as Azul wasn't going to be satiated by a small kiss like that. Before you could back away his hand clasped over your waist, pulling you back in. Gasping, you slid into his lap and he immediately fused his lips against yours.
"Stay." He mouths against your lips as both his hands move to grip your waist. Azul kisses you again and again, only giving you a few seconds to recover. Feeling lightheaded, you pulled away trying to catch your breath.
"Azu-" Before you could even get a word out, he kisses you again, this time with more passion. The ferocity of it all causes your head to spin as your hands become entangled in his white hair. It was almost as if he hadn't kissed you in ages, as if it was his first time seeing you in years. His tongue darts across your bottom lip, prompting you to part your lips.
"Knock Knock." Floyd's voice echoed through the closed door, and Azul jolted. He pulled away from you, his gaze moving to the tweels who were most likely standing behind the door.
"Oi Azul, there's some guy out there lookin' for ya. He's calling you 'Mr Ashengrotto'. What a weirdo."
"Floyd. Doesn't saying 'knock knock' defeat the purpose of knocking?" Jade's muffled voice spoke.
"Didn't ask. Don't care."
You watch Azul glare at the door, cursing under his breath, clearly irritated that his private time with you had been disturbed. He considered just directing the client to return another day. However, it seems that you've decided to make that decision for him.
"You heard them." Pulling him up, you fixed the collar to his uniform and combed his hair back into place. Teasingly, you ran your thumb over his lips.
"Don't keep them waiting, Mr Ashengrotto."

J.L | JADE LEECH:
Wiping the table down, you made sure to get every small spec of dust off of the metal surface. It was late at night and you were helping Jade close the lounge up for his shift.
You were concentrated and hard at work, determined to finish the job properly. Jade, on the other hand, found himself marvelling at the unusual sight of you in his dorm's uniform.
Azul had given you an Octavinelle dorm uniform that was tailored and custom-made specifically for you.But of course, nothing ever came for free when it involved the capitalist octopus.
It was intended to be used for promotional purposes. You were Ramshackle's prefect and the magicless human trapped in a mage school, it's no question that you had a lot of attention thrown your way. It was only natural that his boss would exploit such popularity.
Such a stark difference from your normal outfit. You were usually seen wearing the school uniform issued specially for your shabby dorm, paired with the expensive high-end designer fur coat Crewel gifted you.
To put it short, you appeared much more lovely than usual.
So, was it really his fault when he drew you behind the bar and began kissing you silly? Oh darling pearl, of course not.
"Jade-" You gasp against his lips when his weight starts to push on you. Your back collides with one of the stools, leaving you with little choice but to settle down atop the bar counter.
He swiftly hoists you up over the table, allowing you to sit snugly as you wrap your legs around his hips; he does all this without ever pulling his lips away.
“J-Jade we have a job to finish." You panted but Jade had no intention to stop. He steps back to assess your reaction, a sadistic grin spread across his face.
The eel was gentle when he manoeuvred you to lay down against the table, but the look and gleam in his eyes said otherwise.
"Oya, I fear something much more interesting has taken my attention." He nips at your lips, recapturing them with hardly a second to breathe between each one, his hands sliding up your hips to hold you in place.
"How could I not indulge myself when the most exquisite shining pearl is within my grasp?" Jade whispers.
The merman starts pulling his gloves off and loosening his tie. He returned for another open-mouthed kiss. It seemed as though he just couldn't get enough of you. Every breathy kiss he drew from you felt like waves pulling him under, luring him to continue and drown himself in your love again and again.
Sadly, all wonderful things must come to an end.
"Leech. Hands off my pup." You nearly slipped off the counter when you heard a familiar stern voice call out for you. You spun around, gasping, to discover Crewel standing by the door. His face distorted into an unsightly sneer as he peered at Jade.
"Pup. I believe you forgot but we have a shopping appointment today." Embarrassed, you quickly bowed your head and kept your head down. Why. Why on earth couldn't the ground just swallow you whole right now?
All suave and smooth, Jade took a step back and picked you up. Yelping, you held onto his biceps, head spinning from the sudden movement. Jade merely chuckled and lowered you back down onto the ground.
Crewel storms up to you, your fur coat in hand. He drapes the coat over your torso, fussing over your unkempt appearance. The man turns to throw Jade another scathing look, silently cursing the eel under his breath.
Despite your embarrassed and mortified state, Jade crouches down and whispers to you. "I'll get back to you later, my pearl."

F.L | FLOYD LEECH:
Huffing, you stormed out of the classroom with a towering eel hot on your trail. Before you could even round the corner, Floyd threw his arms over your shoulders and leaned his entire body against yours.
"Floyd! Get off! I'm still upset at you after that stunt you performed earlier!" You grumbled, your knees wobbling from trying to withstand his weight.
Floyd doesn't say anything and just slithers his arm around your waist, his teeth affectionately nibbling the exposed flesh of your neck. His annoyingly handsome face was plastered with a smug smile. He knew he was a menace, and he was proud of it.
Professor Trein's lectures were absurdly long, and you can imagine how bored the eel gets during his classes. The issue is that he's decided to turn you into his new source of entertainment. He kept poking you with a pencil, handing you tiny messages on crumpled notebook paper, and kicking you with his foot. The eel had even sneakily placed his hand on your thigh at one point, drawing patterns and words with his fingertips while pretending to listen to the lecture.
You squirmed and tried to shake your way out of his grasp. Your lover snorted at your pitiful escape attempts and tightened his grip on you.
"Neh~ Shrimpy, this hallway isn't my vibe at all. Let's go somewhere else!" Floyd pulls you into an empty classroom, kicking the door shut. He pushed you against a desk, slamming his hands on either side of you.
All of a sudden, his mood changes. The eel leans down to murmur into your ear, his breathy voice sending shivers up and down your spine.
“That class was so boringg. I can't help it that shrimpy's squirming is much more entertaining~” Floyd laughs, nudging his head against your cheek.
That little nudge was all that it took to get you to lower your guard, allowing him to strike and press his lips on yours.
Floyd's hands raked themselves up your back, his thumb rubbing circles onto the nape of your neck. He gave you one final kiss while grinning before stepping back to give you some room to breathe.
“Hm~? I thought you were still mad at me.” Floyd says as you lean in to chase his lips. You clicked your tongue and grabbed his collar, pulling him close to your face. This time, you take the lead and Floyd eagerly follows suit with a giddy smile on his face.
The loving moment between you two lasts for a few minutes before the door to the classroom slams open.
"Floyd! I've been calling your phone for the last hour!" Both Azul and Jade appeared. Azul looked as if he just ran a marathon, his flushed skin having a faint red tint to it. Jade was as composed as ever and stood behind the octoboss, sending you and his brother a knowing look.
“So what?” Floyd blinks, indifferent to Azul's anger. He just truly doesn’t find anything wrong about skipping his job and showering you with some love and affection.
"What do you mean 'so what'!? You promised me you would take the morning shift! We agreed on this!" Azul scolded, banging his fist against the door. But with his face twisted up like he'd just swallowed a lemon, it was hard to take him seriously.
"I don't want to gooo…" Floyd wailed as he sat down with you on the floor. He collapsed on the ground and drew you into his arms, ignoring Azul's shouts. You cuddled against him, sighing, for there was no way out.
This was your fate.

The askbox is open and I am here to bring the angst baybee!
How would the tweels, Leona, Maleus, and Idia try to approach their crush who is absolutely terrified of them? It’s not to the point that they’ll flee on sight but they get notably tense and fidgety and try to keep their distance.
Tysm and have a great day ☺️
Floyd Leech:
Floyd thinks it’s very funny, and you’d be wrong if you thought he might make himself less intimidating to be around. He decided to give you some exposure therapy, invading your space, suddenly popping up and actually scaring the hell out of you. When he starts just acting like a normal person and approaching you properly, after a great deal of time of him not actually bullying you or doing anything that his reputation might imply he’d do, you find his presence doesn’t bother you as much. As long as he doesn’t jump you from around a corner again, you could talk to him while being at ease.
Idia Shroud:
Idia gets it. Whether it’s the flame hair or the pointy teeth, he gets it. Does it still hurt him deeply to know the person he’s very much head over heels for is terrified of him? Of course, he wasn’t the type to put himself in these situations and yet one managed to find him anyway. He doesn’t know how to appear less intimidating to you other than only speaking to you through messages, so you can tell just how non-threatening towards you that he is. He’ll even wear a mask when he comes up to speak to hide his pointed smile if it sets you more at ease.
Jade Leech:
Jade finds it very interesting. He knew his reputation preceded him but he couldn’t help that, he never meant any harm to you, though. He’s very persistent in your interactions, always gentle, always with an easy smile on his face, promising that he really did enjoy spending his time with you. He briefly lets you see a more vulnerable side to him, either by talking about his love for his brothers happiness or ranting about the many cool mushrooms and the meanings behind their colors. Seeing that side of him, knowing he’s just a person with his own hobbies and worries.
Leona Kingscholar:
Leona noticed immediately, it would be very unlike a carnivore not to notice a little herbivore shaking in their boots when he approached. But the fact you didn’t run from him had certainly sparked his interest, and he couldn’t help himself from enjoying your company. He would never lower his head to anyone but he would be more careful with how he approached you, speaking with a different tone and carefully selected words that still get his point across but without making you feel like you’re under attack.
Malleus Draconia:
Malleus is so incredibly used to that reaction he almost didn’t notice it at first, but the moment he did, it cut deep. To know the person he cared about was shaking in their boots just from him approaching, when he had never done anything (that he knew of) to intimidate them… It left him feeling a little clueless on how to solve the situation, as there was no way to remove his horns or shorten his stature; he would simply have to let you know that there was nothing to fear from him. He not only adored you but he enjoyed your company, and he was hoping to spend more time alone with you when you had the opportunity. He wants you to let him know what he can do to make you more comfortable around him, so he sparked a direct conversation rather than just letting it be.

mer-shrimpy?
Genre/Tropes: No notable ones!!
Summary: The Prefect has an accident in alchemy (courtesy of Ace, Deuce, and Grim) and has turned into a merperson!! Floyd witnesses this and drags them to Octavinelle, where they hang out with the Octotrio until Crewel can reverse the spell.
Author's Comments: i love these absolutely menaces they're my favorite ever i want to hold their hands and hugs them (and give azul smooches.) this ends in kind of a choose your own adventure way?
~~~~~
A bright, multicolored puff of smoke erupted from the cauldron in front of you as Ace and Deuce argued, Grim scurrying around your ankles as he cackled. The noise stopped immediately after the smoke cleared, but you still couldn’t see much of anything. It was only when you realized that you couldn’t breathe very well that you started to panic, flopping around the floor.
Wait, flopping?
You looked down at your legs, only to see the bottom half of a shrimp of all things.
“Bad pups! Stay!” Crewel yelled, quickly approaching your tiny form on the ground, “Ramshackle Prefect, are you alright?”
“Shrimpy?” Floyd leered, peeking over Crewel’s shoulders, “What did you guys do to them, huh?”
Ace and Deuce stepped back a bit, intimidated by the sharp glare Floyd sent their way.
“The water breathing potion must have backfired. What did you add into your potion?” Crewel glared.
“Um…dunno.” Ace mumbled, “I’m sorry, Prefect. I didn’t mean to make you…tiny.”
You tried to voice that it was okay, that you weren’t dying, but nothing came out but sharp shrieking noises and ragged gasps.
“It’s hard to breathe-!” you gasped, choking on air.
“Ehh? It's hard to breathe? You need water or something?” Floyd hummed, his words sending Deuce running to the nearest large plastic container to fill it up for you.
You were more impressed that he’d deciphered what you’d said.
“You can understand me?” you choked out, the sound coming out garbled and raspy.
He tilted his head, kneeling down to you, “Of course I can, Little Shrimp! Did your brain get tiny too? You’re just speaking mer.”
You were about to speak again before Floyd lifted you into his arms, curling his arms around your body and holding you close. He nuzzled your forehead affectionately, his teeth scraping against the skin.
“Leech! Unhand the Prefect!” Crewel demanded, swooping in with the container of water Deuce filled, “This is why you all needed remedial lessons in the first place!”
“Aww, no fun. I wanna play with Shrimpy!” he pouted, turning away and using his upper body to hide you away.
“It’s okay, Floyd. I’ll play with you later.” you promised, “Just please let me breathe.”
“Fiiiine. I don’t want Jade and Azul yelling at me for not taking good care of you. Whatever.” he huffed, annoyed at the idea of letting you go.
He dropped you into the water unceremoniously, the small splash briefly disorienting you before you became used to the feeling of breathing water. It honestly felt like the bathtubs at home, with the container just barely fitting you. Your tail was bent at an odd angle in order for you to breathe properly, and Floyd looked annoyed at your mild discomfort. He brightened up a second later, eyes glinting with mischief.
“I know! Shrimpy, let’s go to my dorm! We have a lot of water, and you can swim all you’d like! Then we can play all we want!” he grinned, sharp teeth gleaming in the light.
“That may be the best idea given the situation.” Crewel agreed, turning his gaze to you, “What do you think?”
You nodded, heart jumping at the thought of a bigger pool. You could breathe and have leg room in the Octavinelle pools, though you’d need to learn how to use your new bottom. You couldn’t imagine how hard it had been to transition from a tail to legs for Floyd and Jade, and in Azul’s case, tentacles. You kept trying to move how you would with your legs, but it felt you only had one big leg and only moved one way. Crossing your arms over your chest, you blew annoyed bubbles in the water.
“Aww, Shrimpy’s so cute!” Floyd cooed, scooping up the container with ease, “Come on, we’re going on a trip! Just me and Shrimpyyy!”
You tried your best to hold onto the container as Floyd slung you around the hall, yelling cheerfully about how much fun he was going to have with you. You squeezed your eyes shut, hoping you’d reach Octavinelle soon.
“Floyd, what are you doing?” someone questioned, the amused tone all too familiar.
“Jade!” he beamed, shoving the container of Jade in Jade’s face, “Look at our Shrimpy! Aren’t they cute?”
Our?!
“Indeed.” Jade chuckled, raising a brow as you floated aimlessly around the water, “I assume you were taking them to the pool in Octavinelle?”
“Where else? We need to keep our little Shrimpy close, don’t we?”
“That we do. I’ll walk with you.”
You wished you could chew them out about this stupid “our” business, but all that came out were more little shrieks and yelps. Floyd laughed, and that’s when you remembered that they could understand you.
“Poor thing. You sound so sad when you talk like that. I can barely understand you.” Jade sighed, acting all disappointed when you knew he was teasing.
“Mean!” you shrieked, and they both laughed.
Sinking back into the water, you blew annoyed bubbles until you found yourself in Octavinelle. The dorm was beautifully decorated, no doubt part of Azul’s influence. You furrowed your brow, looking from left to right. Where was Azul? It was after school, so there was only one other place he could be.
“Don’t fret, Little Pearl.” Jade hummed, staring down at you with half lidded eyes that scream trouble, “If you’re looking for Azul, he’s in his office. Of course, our priority lies with you as of now, but Floyd can retrieve him if you so wish.”
“Ehhh? Why me? I wanna play with Shrimpy.” he moped, holding the container of water closer to his chest.
“Oh, but Floyd, the Little Pearl doesn’t know how to use their tail. Wouldn’t it be more fun to play with them when they can run away? I will teach them the basics while you fetch Azul.” Jade hummed, attempting to placate his brother.
Floyd thought on it for a few seconds before brightening up, showing the container into Jade’s arms. With a loud promise of playing with you later, Floyd bolted towards the VIP Room.
Poor Azul.
“Well hello there.” Jade smiled down at you, his face distorted in the still sloshing water, “What do you say we get you in the pool, hm?”
You nodded, blowing more bubbles in the water. Jade chuckled politely, carrying you off into a hallway near the back of the dorm. You stood stationary inside the water as Jade hummed a tune, finally stopping in front of a door and pushing it open with his hip. The water sloshed over the side of the container, wetting his glove. Jade muttered a quiet apology and set the container down next to the wide expanse of clear water, his soaked gloved hand reaching into the water to pet your head.
“Do you mind if I lift you up? I hardly think dumping someone as delicate as you into a pool would be kind.” he hummed, pulling his gloves off one finger at a time, “I will also be shifting into my merform, so you won’t be lonely.”
You nodded, poking your head above the water. Jade’s bare hands were a sight you’d never seen before, and you were surprised at how soft they looked considering most of his free time was spent digging around in terrariums and even mountains. He noticed you staring, eyes crinkling in the corners as he chuckled. Without any warning, he swooped down gracefully, closing on you far too quickly for your liking. You jerked back, water sloshing over the sides of the container once again as Jade’s fangs glinted in the overhead lights.
“Don’t be shy, Little Pearl.” he cooed, dipping his bare hands into the water and scooping you up as though you were a plant ready to be repotted, “I won’t hurt you. I’ll treat you delicately, with all the care a little morsel like you deserves.”
Your eyes went wide at the morsel comment, but before you could see anything Jade had set you in the pool. Even though the water looked clear on the surface, there was a light fog settling within the water that made it hard to see much of anything. You jumped when you heard a splash a little ways away from you, but when you looked you couldn’t see anything. Fear coursed through your veins as you waited, unable to use your tail to swim towards where you hoped Jade had dove in with you. Gulping water through your gills, you tried to take deep breaths to calm down. They wouldn’t eat you, obviously. This was Jade. He just wanted to see you jump.
And jump you did, when a green blur gently tapped your tail from behind.
You jumped backward, whipping around to face none other than Jade. Crossing your arms, you glared at him as he chuckled, eyes narrowed.
“Apologies, Little Pearl. I wanted to see how you would react. It’s quite entertaining to see you out of your element.” he hummed, swishing his tail around as he darted in circles around you, “Now, do you think you’re ready to try swimming?”
“How do you guys work these things?!” you blurted, flopping in the pool like a fish on land, “It’s so hard to manage-”
“Don’t move it like you’d move your own two legs. Move like your legs have been merged into one.” Jade hummed, smirking at your struggle.
You jerked your tail as you managed to go forward, a small accomplishment in the grand scheme of things. Jade looked so proud though, and you tried not to let him feed your ego too much. He was probably laughing at you internally anyway.
“Good Little Pearl.” he hummed, swimming a bit further away, “Keep going. I’m certain you’ll be able to use that tail of yours efficiently in no time.”
With that praise, you tried even harder to swim towards him. It wasn’t as hard as it used to be now that you were thinking of your bottom as two legs merged together, and it occurred to you that merpeople had to pretend that their tail had been split in two. You wondered how they got used to feet, or even if they’d had a foot cramp before. Did merpeople have tail cramps?
You were too in your own head. As you snapped out of it, you realized that Jade had moved a bit farther, and had gone deeper into the pool. In the dimmer lighting at the bottom, you could swear his golden eye was glowing, beckoning you deeper into the pool like a siren. You almost didn’t go deeper.
Almost.
Curiosity killed the cat, as they said, and curiosity was about to kill you.
So you swam down, chasing after Jade as he darted between the various types of coral, their jagged forms rising from the sand like nature’s fortified towers. Octavinelle was truly a beautiful dorm.
With beautiful people, you thought as you watched Jade look back at you, his eyes gleaming. His expression was playful as he twirled in a circle, darting into some faded yellow coral. Without a second thought, you swam after his, elated that you were finally getting the hang of your tail.
“What are you doing here?!” a loud hissed reverberated in the water, and Jade immediately darted in front of you like a guard dog.
A familiar face poked out from the coral, his blue gray eyes narrowed with annoyance.
“Azul?” you gasped, eyes widening at the surprise, “I thought you were back in your VIP Room?”
“Wh- Angelfish? Why are you a…?” Azul trailed off, head tilting to the side as he examined you, “...Nevermind that. You need to get out. Out! Leave!”
“Azul, it’s okay.” Jade spoke, his voice calm and collected.
He still hadn’t moved away from you though.
“Azul, is everything okay?” you asked, keeping your distance.
The last thing you wanted to do was annoy him.
“Angelfish, please leave. You shouldn’t see me like this.” he sighed, shaking his head as he shrank back into the coral, “It’s not a pretty sight, I assure you. Now, if you will-”
“There’s no part of you that I wouldn’t find nice.” you said, voice so stern it surprised you, “I mean, it’s okay if you don’t want to show me, but I promise I won’t judge you for anything. I’m literally a shrimp right now.”
You flicked your tail in his direction for emphasis, and Jade snorted. He seemed to have drifted off the side since you two figured out it was Azul and not some other random student.
“Aaaaazul!” Floyd called, darting out of nowhere into the coral Azul was hiding in, “Come play with us!”
“Floyd, no-!” Azul yelped as he was slammed out of his hidey hole, a writhing mass of black following his front as Floyd cackled. Your eyes widened at the appendages as he struggled to hide them, trying to make himself seem as small as possible. He kept shooting you panicked glances, his chest rising and falling rapidly as Floyd swam circles around him.
“Azul? Why are you on edge? Is it because Little Shrimpy’s here?” Floyd teased.
“Azul, I highly doubt Little Pearl cares about such trivial things.” Jade hummed, pressing a hand against your lower back and pushing you the slightest bit forward.
Azul froze on the spot, finally taking the time to look at your expression. There was no disgust, no amusement, no fear. There was just awe and curiosity. He swallowed thickly, feeling like a specimen on an examination table. You slowly swam forward, reaching out slowly, giving him time to pull away. He slammed his eyes shut but didn’t move, feeling your hand slide down one of his tentacles. You hummed as your other hand cupped one of them, flipping it upwards to reveal the suction cups. Azul cracked his eyes open just a bit to see you staring down at his chubby hideous revolting body with such much adoration that it made his heart jump into his throat. He couldn’t breathe.
“You’re really pretty, Azul.” you murmured, pulling the tentacle closer and letting it wrap around your hand, its actions shaky and slow, “You’re gorgeous like this.”
“See? What did I tell ya? Little Shrimpy doesn’t care.” Floyd laughed, poking Azul at the base of his tentacles.
“I’m not so sure about that, Floyd. They seem to care quite a bit.” Jade chuckled.
Another black tentacle wrapped itself around your waist as his purple tinted skin turned pink. He refused to meet your gaze as you accepted his touch without a bit of repulsion, your eyes affectionate and happy as if asking him to keep going. He yanked himself away before he could pull you into his chest and hug you for hours.
“Come swim with us, Azul!” Floyd called, snapping at him with his teeth as he giggled, “You can’t hog Shrimpy all day! That’s not faaair!”
“Floyd is right, you know. You should thank him for going to get you in the first place. That was very generous of him.” Jade hummed.
“I was here the whole time.” Azul mumbled, and you shook your head at their antics.
“I’d like to make the most of this form while I’m still in it. It’s been fun so far!” you bounced a bit in the water, curling your tail in and out.
“Aww, Shrimpy’s so cute!” Floyd giggled, his expression immediately shifting to annoyance when he processed what you meant, “Ehh? What do ya mean? We’re going to have you over like this again, Shrimpy. You’re not getting away that easily.”
“Indeed.” Jade began circling you, a sinister look on his face, “You’re such a small little morsel, it would be the same if we didn’t have a chance to catch you.”
A shiver shot down your spine as Floyd followed his twin’s example, the both of them circling you menacingly as Azul stared disappointingly at them.
“If you two keep freaking them out, they’ll never come back again.” he pointed out, tugging you closer by the tail, “Don’t scare the poor angelfish. ”
“It’s just a little fuuun.” Floyd giggled, brightening up at the thought of forcing you over again, “Come on Shrimpy, wouldn’t you like that?”
“Sketchy undertones aside, I agree. I think it’d be nice to try this out again, even just swimming in my human form. It’s like stress relief.” you mused.
“Professor Crewel should be working on a cure already. We best make haste if we’re to enjoy you to the fullest.” Jade smiled his close-eyed smile, “Little Pearl, if you will.”
He gestured to the coral around you as Floyd’s yellow eye gleamed mischievous. When Jade opened his eyes, you noticed his yellow eye was glowing too.
“You may hide, and we will seek you out.” he chuckled, tilting his head slightly, “Wouldn’t you enjoy that?”
“Oh yes, Shrimpy! It’ll be so fun. We’ll try to take a bite out of you.” Floyd laughed.
 Azul shook his head exasperatedly, holding out a hand to you.
“If you do not wish to join their game of cat and mouse, I can show you around the deeper ends of the pool.” he murmured, “I’m sure you would enjoy the secret’s I’ve stashed away.”
You looked between the three, contemplating which to try first. Well, what’ll it be, dear Prefect?
The tale of this noblewoman is nothing short of a pitiful one.
Though born into a lineage of high prestige, her family's former glory had withered away, drained dry by the toils of generations past. Yet, the count and countess, bound by love and tenderness, still showered their daughter with affection, sparing no effort to ensure her well-being.
The noblewoman yearned for this fleeting happiness to linger, but destiny rarely extends its benevolent hand for long. On her eleventh birthday, her mother, weary from the ceaseless burdens of the household, succumbed to a devastating illness and became bedridden. In a desperate gambit to procure funds for the cure to his wife's illness, the count embarked on treacherous voyages to distant shores, seeking business opportunities in the coastal realms.
But alas, the wheel of misfortune turned relentlessly. On her fourteenth birthday, while returning home with promises of a prosperous business deal, the count met his untimely end in a harrowing carriage accident.
As the sole heir to the county, she was burdened with the weight of the title, a mantle too heavy for an adolescent to bear. She undertook the grim task of orchestrating her father's funeral. During the somber ceremony, a peculiar party of visitors arrived, their countenance unsettling, teeth like razors and stature unnaturally tall. She soon learned these were the Leech family, the very traders her father had forged deals with.
They dangled an irresistible proposition before her, one she could not refuse; in exchange for becoming the betrothed of the eldest Leech son, her mother's well-being would be safeguarded, and the finest remedies would be at her disposal.
Thus, the noblewoman, too foolish and naive, chose to secure her mother's future. Their union was sealed when she reached the age of eighteen. Yet, not even a year passed before a sinister illness overcame her, her constitution ravaged by a poison slowly administered by her own husband.
The Leech family, though incredibly wealthy and influential, had always hungered for the societal standing that had long eluded them. The noblewoman, unknowingly, was their golden ladder to ascend into aristocracy, for deceiving the aristocratic circles into believing she was sickly, much like her mother, proved a simple task.
And so, the noblewoman passed away pitifully, her title passed into the hands of her husband, and her mother soon followed her beloved daughter.
of all the characters you could've have reincarnated as, you had the worst luck of all when you woke up as Floyd's late wife
heck, Floyd wasn't even the main character of the novel, it was some businessman that grew up to be greedy and cruel, but had to learn how to love again after meeting the heroine
his late wife was just briefly mentioned for a paragraph about how the leech family, basically the mafia from "fathoms below", started gaining more influence and helped the businessman with his schemes
though Floyd and his twin brother jade did gain a large fanbase, they were a pretty striking duo and when did red flags ever stop fans from simping
you yourself were a huge fan of the twins, but even you didn't instantly recognize you became Floyd's late wife
it was only when you were grieving with your mother about the passing of your caring father and the leech family showed up at the funeral
the striking teal hair, mismatched eyes, and carefree grin stood out almost immediately
Mr. Leech, an formidable figure, cast a shadow of authority as he shattered the oppressive silence that had draped itself over the elegant garden. His voice, deep and resonant, possessed a commanding quality as he addressed you. "My condolences for your loss, my dear. Your father and I were business partners... He spoke very highly of you."
With a sense of poised grace, you offered a nod at his words. "Thank you, Mr. Leech. It is an honor to have made the acquaintance of your family, even under these less-than-fortunate circumstances."
Jade, his sharp and composed eyes keenly focused on you, joined the conversation. "I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm Jade," he offered his hand in greeting.
You shook his hand, your voice filled with gratitude. "Thank you, Jade."
In stark contrast, Floyd, exuding an aura of indifference. Mr. Leech took it upon himself to introduce him, placing a firm hand on his shoulder. "And this is Floyd, my eldest son."
You extended a polite greeting to Floyd, your tone warm and inviting as you curtseyed. "Hello, Floyd. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Floyd, maintaining his stoic demeanor, made a "hmph" sound before turning away, his demeanor aloof.
Sensing the tension and his apparent disinterest, you scrambled for a way to interest him. "Oh uhm, you must be tired from your journey. Would you care for some refreshments? We have some pastries prepared, if you'd like."
He turns back to you, a glint of interest flickering in his curious eyes. "Hmmm... Alright, why don'tcha show me what you've got prepared, Shrimpy?" He responds, the edges of his lips curling upward.
thankfully, the funeral came to a close peacefully, and Floyd seemingly got along with you
from then you awaited the offer letter from Mr Leech to arrive
you remembered that Floyd, though easily bored, could be really dedicated to something if he wanted to
so what better way to survive, than to make Floyd like you?? only then will your mom get the medicine she needs, and you'll survive without struggling in poverty
worse case scenario, he gets bored of you when you're older and you'll just divorce
and if he's the one asking for the divorce, he can't really make you pay compensation for the past medical fees
so, you decided to accept the proposal nonetheless
but not without precautions!! you started studying intensely on all sorts of poisons and antidotes, just in case Floyd randomly gets bored and tries to unalive you
though if he wanted to end your life with brute force, you knew you wouldn't stand a chance against him
as fiancés, there's not much improvement in your relationship
sometimes he's bored and finds hanging out with you a chore, other times he's following you around like a curious puppy, and there are also moments where he pranks you to see your reactions
you've tried becoming closer to him by getting him cool shoes and playing instruments, but he's far too aloof for you to know if he likes you or not
but thankfully, your mother's complection has improved a lot, and it does look like she's recovering
and once you're both officially adults and married, you start attending public events with floyd to establish your connections
or more accurately, for the leech family to establish connections with aristocracy
this time, it was a tea party held by some business competitors of the leech family
The elegant garden was a tranquil haven for the tea party, the soft murmur of leaves rustling in the gentle breeze providing a soothing background to the clink of fine china and hushed conversations. You, Floyd, and the other aristocratic adolescents settled around a beautifully adorned table, the porcelain teacups and dainty pastries tempting you all.
Floyd lifted the delicate teacup to his lips as he rolled his eyes, having grown weary of the incessant chatter and polite pleasantries that surrounded him. Just as he was about to take a sip, you noticed a faint, unusual scent wafting from his cup, a scent that sent a chilling realization down your spine.
With lightning-quick reflexes, you reached out and pressed your hand against Floyd's, preventing him from taking that fateful sip. "Wait, Floyd, don't," you whispered urgently.
Startled, Floyd's gaze darted to your eyes, confusion etched across his face. "What's wrong, Shrimpy?" he asked, taken aback by your trembling hands.
You carefully take out the silver hairpin gifted to you by Mr Leech from your hair, murmuring, "Please explain this to father-in-law later..." Carefully, you submerged the hairpin into Floyd's cup, and both of you watched in horror as the pearly hairpin rapidly transformed into a sinister shade of black.
His eyes widened as he looked down at the poisoned tea, realizing the danger he had been unknowingly on the brink of. Anger simmered beneath the surface, his emotions stirred by the audacity of someone attempting harm. Swiftly, he plucked the hairpin from the cup, using his handkerchief to conceal the incriminating evidence before the guests could catch on.
"I'm bored," His voice carried throughout the venue, capturing the attention of the other guests. "Let's get out of here." He said as he pulled you up from your seat with a firm yet gentle gesture, placing an arm around your shoulder as he guided you away from the tea party.
Once you were far from prying eyes, he pulled you close, wrapping you in a protective embrace. His large hand moved soothingly over your back, attempting to calm your trembling form.
"Thanks, Shrimpy. I owe ya one" he whispered into your hair. After a brief moment, he pulled back slightly, his intense gaze fixed on your eyes. "But how'd ya know my tea was messed with?"
Anxiety seized your body at the question, the weight of your response holding immense consequences. If you answered wrongly, Floyd might suspect your intentions. In a panic, you blurted out the first thing that came to mind.
"I wanted to protect you!"
Floyd blinked. "Protect... me?"
"Yes!" You affirmed. "I thought maybe there would be attempts on your life since your family's incredibly influential, and I wanted to be able to protect you..." You murmured the last bit, praying that you were making sense.
With an expression of genuine astonishment, Floyd stared at you, unblinking. It was clear that your explanation had taken him by surprise, the notion of your dedication leaving him momentarily speechless.
"You... you went through such lengths... to protect me?" Floyd finally managed to utter, a hint of incredulity in his voice. A glimmer of warmth crept into his eyes as he studied your face, taking in the sincerity in your actions.
Before you could conjure up an answer, his grip on your shoulder tightened, drawing you closer to him. "You're really something else, Shrimpy," he murmured, a faint smile playing at the corners of his lips. "Hahaha! I wouldn't mind having you around!"
needless to say, floyd started following you around even more now
it seems this event really helped you gain his trust and affection
soon after the party, he gifted you a new hairpin, with "pearls he found himself" he says
he starts getting jealous when you spend more time studying poisons with jade but if you say you're doing it because you want to protect him he melts again
looks like you're not losing your life anytime soon, but i also don't think that eel is letting go of you ever
Summary: Jade is drunk. That's it that's the story. Nah, there's some fluff and dancing with gn reader too.
(Pls reblog and leave a comment ❤)
Mostro Madness
Tumblr media
In the midst of bright neon lights, blaring music, and a crescendo of of excited voices, you wondered if your eyes were deceiving you.
They had to be. It was the only explanation. Because the man in front of you right now could not possibly be Jade Leech
Surely, this was Floyd Leech. It couldn't be anyone else, given his current state.
Suit jacket and hat discarded, bowtie undone, shirt unbuttoned all the way down to just above his belly button, his hair an absolute mess and sticking to a face flushed red and stretched with a wide fanged smile.
Alas, Floyd was currently on the dimly lit stage to your left, singing remarkably well into the mic while swinging back and forth with a half empty glass of whiskey in hand
Therefore, unless someone had duplicated Floyd, the eel smiling at you right now was none other than Jade Leech.
Completely and utterly hammered.
"Puffball." Jade was swaying on his feet, his special pet name for you lilted and floaty on his tongue. "You look..." He giggled softly. "You look beautiful tonight."
You briefly wondered if he was pulling your leg, laughing like that, but you decided to humour him anyways.
"Thanks, Jade." You said, sickly sweet. "You look absolutely enchanting yourself, hon."
Jade's eyes widened in surprise and he covered his face with his hands, his golden eye peeking out from between his gloved fingers.
"Oh my." He slurred, giggling again. "My love is kind to me tonight."
You rolled your eyes at his sudden bashfulness. He was going to be quite embarrassed about this tomorrow (unless he decided to be happy about all that transpired) and he had nobody to blame but himself.
A friendly- if you could really call anything involving Jade friendly- drinking competition with Azul and Floyd had gone laughably awry, leaving all three of them a mess.
Azul lay spawled across one of the couches, glasses askew, with eyes as wide as saucers. He mumbled feverently to himself, ignorant of Floyd drunkenly singing on stage and Jade turning into a giggly puddle at your words.
How the twins managed to get Azul to agree to such a competition in the first place was a mystery.
Truly, the Mostro Lounge 10th Anniversary party (staff exclusively) had devolved into chaos, given the utter state of everybody else there too.
"Jade, I think you should sit down." You say, raising an eyebrow at his horribly wobbly legs.
"Hmm... nooo..?" Jade's voice slurred. "I think... I would like to dance."
"Jade, you're in no condition to walk, nevermind dance!"
Jade's smile was lopsided. "But my love, it'd the perfect time to dance. Alcohol on the tongue, a beautiful setting, romantic music in the air~"
You would hardly call Floyd snarling crude lyrics into the microphone romantic, as good as his voice was, but you hardly had the heart to say no to Jade when he looked so excited.
"Darling~" Jade gripped your hands with own. "Dance with me. Please?"
He looked at you with wide bright eyes, crocodile tears threatening to spill down her cheeks.
You sigh.
"Okay. But don't whine when you topple onto your ass and bring me down with you.'
Jade didn't reply, instead opting to let out another airy giggle and pull you to his chest.
Right hand on your back and left hand intertwined with yours, Jade led you into a messy attempt at a dance that had you swinging around with erratic janky movements.
You nearly fell over a number of times from stepping on each other's feet and knocking into people and furniture.
Jade didn't seem to mind. In fact, he looked utterly delighted. His sharp teeth were on full display, mouth stretched in a genuine happy smile as laughter bubbled from his chest.
It was a Jade that was on cloud nine, happy and free of care. He wasn't blackout drunk, oh no, but he was close. Enough to let go of his carefully crafted facade for a short while, surrounded by friends and loved ones.
Suddenly Jade picked you up and spun you in a circle, grinning at your shriek of surprise.
He came to a sudden stop and pulled you close once more, stroking your cheek cheek his thumb.
"I love you so much, my little puffball.' He whispered. "More than any mushroom in the world."
-End
A/N: Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed this little fic! I like the idea of Jade calling his s/o mushroom pet names so you're his Puffball hehe
“I don’t think this is a good idea, Floyd,” you gulped, looking down the hill.
Floyd laughed behind you on the tandem bicycle, and you could feel the bike reverberate from it. “Ehhh, are ya scared?~”
You dug your heels into the ground, making sure that the both of you wouldn’t end up going down the hill without knowing where you were going. The last thing you needed was to hit a pothole or a big enough rock and end up getting hurt. “Not scared,” you huffed, “just thinking.”
Floyd rolled his eyes, “We’ll just be up here all day then! Come on, Shrimpy.” He nudged your feet, but you dug your feet in further, cementing the bike into place. Floyd sighed and slumped his head on your shoulder. “You were the one that wanted to ride this thingy, but now you’re gettin’ cold feet about it?”
You took in a deep breath. Yes, it was your idea to take the cute tandem bike you found in the shed out for a spin, but your cycling partner had never ridden a bike before, and you also didn’t want to crash. “Just give me a minute, okay.” You clenched your hands on and off the brakes.
Floyd just looked at you curiously, before a wild smile took over his face. And when you eased up on the brakes again, he pushed you both forward. “Minute’s up!~”
And down the hill you went. Being angry could wait for later, as your main concern was making sure you were both staying upright and avoiding the aforementioned potholes and rocks. Floyd was cackling behind you, helping you steer a bit, but mainly just enjoying the wind wiping up his hair and watering up his eyes. And eventually, you started slowing down, coming to a more manageable pace that didn’t leave your hands clenching for dear life on the handlebars. But once you came to a complete stop you exploded in laughter; a mix of relief that you hadn’t died, of pure joy, and the infectious cackle that was coming from behind you.
“See, Shrimpy! That was fun,” Floyd poked you in the back.
You got off the bike, legs a bit shaky from the adrenaline. “Yeah, it was a little bit fun.” Wait, I'm supposed to be mad at him! You could never stay mad at him for very long though.
Well, gravity is a thing, a thing that Floyd was not accounting for, and he wasn’t supporting the bike up, so he and the bike tumbled to the ground. And instead of sulking, he just laughed and got right back up.
“Wanna go again?~ This time I’ll steer!” He laughed, and hugged you, squeezing you gently.
You let out a long sigh, decompressing. “No, absolutely not,” you pushed against him slightly so you could put your hands on his shoulders.
Floyd pouted, “You’re no fun ya know.” There was no bite, he was just being pouty since he was planning on making you shriek as you both had no idea where you were going, but downhill, and downhill fast.
You hummed, kissing his cheek to bring him out of the dour mood. “And you’re no fun if you can’t go on little adventures with me. Can’t do that if we crash on that cursed thing,” you pointed your chin at the bike.
Floyd looked briefly at the bike before turning his attention back to you. “Okay, okay, okay, I got the memo, Shrimpy…” He placed a quick kiss and bite on your lips before pulling back with a wink, taking a look at his handy work.
You could feel the slight sting. His bite wasn’t sharp enough to draw blood, but it was enough to make them puffy. “Are you proud of your handiwork?”
“Mhm!~” Floyd pressed another kiss to your lips, but this time it was gentle, soothing the stinging sensation.
And you bit his lip back, deciding that you deserved some sweet vengeance.
Floyd pulled back, and the shocked look on his face turned into pure glee and he was doubled over laughing again. “Damn, Shrimpy! I should do that more often!~”
Wait, what?
Ooo here’s an interesting thought for you. So you know how, in the interspecies romance, you mentioned how Jade and Floyd would still kinda ‘bully’ a potential partner? Can you imagine if that person were an overthinking type? Like the ‘mean’ interactions make them think that either of the tweels just do NOT like them.
Basically misunderstandings abound.
Floyd gifts them a tooth; are they next?? Jade gives a poisonous (but pretty/rare) mushroom; is this a threat??
Could also just be a person who has a difficult time interpreting social cues, or flirting.
But either way, the poor object of their interest starts avoiding them and is so confused by the mixed signals. So they go up to Azul or something and ask if they’ve made the respective tweel angry or something. Because they thought they were getting along???
Just a poor confused bean.
Anyway sorry that was long but I just thought it was an interesting concept. 😂
As someone whose autism severely impacted their understanding of social norms, I feel this on a deeply spiritual level. In the partner's defense, the twins are just generally intimidating and take delight in scaring their peers. They say the most out of pocket shit and it's hard to tell when they're being serious or joking (they also have a tad bit of the tism). Poor Azul would be so tired of having to deal with a potential eel mate asking him to call off his right/left-hand men, they don't have a contract with him anymore, so why are they threatening them with loose teeth and poisonous mushrooms?? Azul!! Make them stop!!!
(He briefly considers staying out of it. It would do them some good to suffer through their pining until they have the common sense to look up human dating and woo methods. But they are his friends that he actually cares quite deeply for his employees whose moods are affecting productivity, so he'll explain it to you, and then go give them a good wack in the head for being stupid.)
Floyd is the more likely of the two to not look up human courting and dating methods. He's more of the kind of guy that's hoping you will get what he means by vibe alone. Like that manifesting stuff Cater goes on about. You'll have to be particularly perceptive to notice that he squeezes you a bit softer, looks at you with hearts in his eyes a bit longer than more, and notice that he slips up and calls you by your name instead of Shrimpy; he's surprisingly subtle with his growing affections. Jade would have definitely research ahead of time, plus he's very perceptive of others and their emotions around him. He'll probably be able to tell that you're not getting his advances, but on the other hand, it would be so funny to see how long it takes for you to catch on. He'll make fun of you in the future on how you “strung along a poor eel's heart, waaahhhh!” while he pined after you with foraged and handmade gifts, classic merfolk courting! That, or you accidentally start dating/a friends-with-benefits situation, both of you misunderstanding the other's intentions. It would take some incredible denseness and misunderstanding on both your parts for that to happen, which is a lot easier than you think when it comes to Jade “Keep them Guessing” Leech. Truly, a man can be too confident with regard to love, please tell him this or else you'll spend at least four months in a relationship before realizing it.
7:30 P.M. DD/MM/YYYY
I thought I knew the truth for a while—that this world existed inside a story. That this was a world which revolved around a nameless, faceless, flawless main character. This entire world around me existed to serve one purpose: to present trials to the main character until she eventually finds a happy ending with her one and only. This world was created for “(Y/N).”
I was Friend A. Friend A was never mentioned again after page two of that story.
It turns out that I was sort of wrong. This world is made for stories, from stories, and (Y/N) happened to be the main character at the time. Now that I’m the author, I made myself the main character.
You wrote “story” and “world” so much that they hardly look like real words anymore. The tip of your pen hovers over the first page of your journal. It’s your first time keeping one, and you aren’t certain how to proceed. What tone do you use? Should it be informal or professional? How long should each entry be? How detailed should you make it?
The trapdoor to the attic flips open. Floyd’s head pokes through it like a garden eel in the sand.
“Whatcha doin’ over there? Still lookin’ for that manuscript?”
You shake your head. The manuscript for (Y/N)’s story disappeared without a trace after your meeting with Hans. No matter how hard you searched, nothing turned up, so you could only assume he retrieved it.
“No use in looking for it. I’m starting on my journal.” The pen twirls in your hand. “I’m not really sure how I want to write it.”
He hoists himself up and saunters over to where you’re curled up at the window. He peers at your handwriting. Flippantly, he flops on the floor next to you and yawns.
“Who caaares. Write whatever ya feel like writin’. It’s not like the one before was any good.”
The previous author’s manuscript was riddled with inconsistencies, plot holes, and grammar mistakes. It wouldn’t be a massive problem. Hans would simply have to work harder to fill in the gaps.
“The previous one failed, though.”
“Then just don’t fail.” He grins up at you. “Easy, right?”
You pinch his nose, laughing when he swats at your hand.
“Easier said than done.” Despite that, his words ease the burden on your shoulders just a bit. You don’t need to overthink this. It’s your story, yours to tell however you’d like. “Thanks for the advice, though.”
“Sure, sure.” Your name rolls off his tongue dismissively. “You worry too much.”
You glance at him. “You’ve been calling me ‘Red Handfish’ recently, why’d you switch back to my name?”
The lamplight glints in Floyd’s eyes briefly, then he closes them. A lazy grin spreads on his lips.
“I was calling ya ‘Red Handfish’ ’cuz I was hopin’ you’d get your hands all red and bloody again.” A huff of air escapes him. “Shoulda been there when you beat up the security.”
“Typically, you’re supposed to not hope I’m beating up your men.”
“It’s fine. Not like Jade and I need much protectin’.” His voice quiets down to a mumble. “You’re enough for security or whatever.”
His voice trails off at the end. Soon, quiet snores fill the attic. Seeing that he isn’t planning on disrupting your writing, your attention returns to your journal. Following his advice might not be a bad idea.
My main priority was to break the curse on Mr. and Mrs. Leech. I thought I’d have to ask (Y/N) to reach out to Vil Schoenheit or write something in this journal, but it turns out I didn’t have to do anything. Hans went ahead and nudged the odds in my favour already. At least, I suspect he had a hand in it. But I’m never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, so I’ll happily accept that Walrus’s team and our own people have found a way to break the curse.
Azul was slightly disappointed that he didn’t manage to find a method on his own. He really wanted to put the twins in his debt, but I guess he’ll have to sulk. His specialty is potions, after all. Not curses. He’s also a little salty because this implies Vil Schoenheit is still more skilled than him on the subject of curses. His competitive nature never dies down when it comes to other competent people, even after all these years.
Anyway, the curse was undone three days ago. They’ve woken up perfectly stable and healthy, if a little tired. The twins have spent nearly every waking hour in their room. I’m glad they’re all looking much more lively.
Their parents wanted to go right back to work, but Jade and Floyd have been very insistent on making sure they rest. Right now, Jade and his parents have decided to split up the work equally, but Jade plans on eventually relinquishing his position as the temporary head of the Leech Mafia. He doesn’t want it back anytime soon. His parents might want him to keep observing their work, but I think he’ll take a long breather after the Carpenter Mafia dissolves. He says he wants to join a research lab on fungi. I’m sure he’ll enjoy himself there.
Speaking of Jade’s interests, Floyd owes him quite a bit for breaking his terrariums. You cast a glance at the twin dozing off on the floor. Jade’s been working him hard. Just as you’re about to pull a knitted blanket off the window seat and drape it over his torso, Jade climbs up to the attic.
“Ah, I thought I might find you two here.” He ignores your shushing motion, speaking nearly louder than his usual conversational volume. “Have you made any progress on that journal?”
“Keep it down, Floyd’s sleeping.”
“Oh? I suppose he is.” He smiles as though he’s entirely innocent. “Even though he should be running an errand on the west side of the city right now. Isn’t that so, my dear brother?”
Floyd stirs, brows furrowing as he grumbles. “Fuck off, man.”
“I’m afraid you’re late. Why don’t you head out? It wouldn’t do for you to procrastinate.” Jade leans over him, his shadow eclipsing Floyd’s face. The latter gripes some more before rolling away and hopping right through the trapdoor. His footsteps echo through the halls, eventually leading to the sound of the front door.
“He’s tired. You should let him rest.” You close your journal and set it beside you.
He kneels by your seat and rests his head on your knee. Gingerly, you reach out and comb your fingers through his hair. His entire body melts against the wall and your knee.
“I am also tired.” His eyelids drop halfway, a pitiable pout on his lips. “Much more so than he is, I’m sure.”
“And what? You want a gold medal for the Fatigue Olympics?” Despite your words, your other hand holds his jaw, thumb brushing over his cheek. “Come on, get off the floor. It can’t be comfortable.”
He sighs in contentment. “With the way you’re touching me, I have half a mind to stay where I am.”
You’ve come to realize that Jade acts this way when he’s looking for attention, and he only actively looks for attention from you. With a sigh escaping the smile on your lips, you ease his head off your knee and move your legs so that your feet touch the floor. He has the gall to look like a kicked puppy.
“You’re so dramatic.” You pat the cushioned space next to you. “Sit up here.”
It’s like his fatigue disappears as soon as you extend the invitation. He wastes no time in sitting next to you, his thigh pressing against yours. One of his hands reaches behind you. You feel it causing the cushions to shift under you as he uses it to support his weight. Strangely, it feels more intimate than if he had touched you directly. The knowledge that his arm is there creates a sense of security. Sturdy, safe, like the face of a cliff that has your back. He’ll never be a threat to you. You think back to what you once thought of people who trust Jade, and you wonder if you’re a fool, desperate, or if you have something on him.
It might not be so bad to be a fool once in a while.
You lean into his side and rest your head on his shoulder. A pause, followed by the light pressure of his cheek against your hair. His body is cool to the touch like always, and you find comfort in it.
“I’ll help you make new terrariums to replace the ones Floyd broke.”
“How kind of you.” The hand behind you lifts, only to find its place on your waist, securing you to his side. “In that case, I should consider what I’d like to grow in them. Lichen would decorate some surfaces well, but I doubt it would be possible.”
“Lichen?” You often see it back home near the shore. “Why not?”
“It cannot survive in a closed system like my terrariums.” His voice lowers to a soft, almost sweet tone. “It requires clean, fresh air, outside the confines of a box that I control. The charm of keeping a terrarium is that I control every factor within it, down to what lives or dies. But despite the fact that it eludes my grasp, I adore observing its beauty in the environment where it thrives.”
Somehow, you don’t think he’s talking about lichen anymore.
“Lichen grows on trees and rocks, right?” You think about the cliffside. Patches of pale green life covered the rocks where you met Jade. It brought a sort of earthy, rustic quality to the area. “It’s pretty. I think I’ve seen a few of your photos focusing on it.”
“Yes, it needs to be anchored to a sturdy surface.” He adjusts his grip on your waist. “Unassuming, allowing other elements of the scenery to shine, but charming and effective in its own right.”
You don’t want to ask if he’s referring to you. He’ll surely tease you for being self-absorbed. However, you are not so prideful as to not acknowledge what he’s trying to say.
“I sort of understand wanting to be anchored to something.” You place one hand over his. “It’s easier to let my guard down when there’s something that can protect my back.”
“Allow me to assist you with that.” He intertwines your fingers. “If you must be anchored to something, I’ll be more than happy to provide you with support forever, until you ask me to stop.”
“All this talk about ‘forever.’” A grin pulls at your lips. There’s no harm in teasing him once in a while. “It’s like you’re trying to marry me. What’s with that, huh?”
His entire body freezes. You lift your head from his shoulder, trying to look at his face.
“Jade? I was joking—”
He gently presses against your temple, his wrist blocking your eyes as he guides your head back down to his shoulder. What a letdown. This time, you really wanted to see his expression.
“Incidentally,” he says, “would you like to have dinner with me tomorrow?”
“You changed the topic way too abruptly.” Laughter bubbles in your throat. “I thought you were better at making conversation than that.”
“I’m inclined to disagree.” He doesn’t elaborate. “Are you free tomorrow evening? We can book a reservation for that restaurant you wanted to try.”
Usually, you wouldn’t turn it down. But . . .
“Sorry, I’ll be out with (Y/N) all day.” You’ve missed her. And after she called you in distress over losing the polaroids you took together, you promised to replace them with new ones. There’s so much you have yet to do with her. “Maybe the day after?”
Jade sighs loudly, as though he’s the most pitiful being in the world. Amidst teasing laughter, you close your journal and focus your attention on him. It’s alright to take your time writing it. Your story is a process that does not need to be rushed. It may only be a page at the moment, but one day, you’re sure this journal will fill with your experiences, plans, and thoughts. You will continue on living as your own person—not a side character or a main character in a grander scheme, but as yourself. To live as a human being with your unique experiences—that is your story.
"Yuu-Yuu hurt." Part 7
Part 1 | Part 6 | Part 8
'You can't stop death from doing their job,' something inside of them whispers. 'It doesn't matter what he or anyone says. Death will do what it will and it will take him away. He may be gone right now, and you couldn't even say good-bye to him.'
'Stop,' they hiss back at the thing. The first time it reared its ugly head, they thought it was a voice in the back of their mind, another scary thought that would pop up sometimes like their other thoughts. As it began to grow and twist around their heart like a boa constrictor, they realized that it wasn't just another thought. It was something worse.
'That good-for-nothing headmaster hasn't done a single thing to help you. He left you to figure it all yourself when you don't even know what sources can be trusted.'
'I've had help. We've made progress.'
'But no solution. Hasn't it occurred to you that even if you're running through the dark, you might not be running towards anything because there's nothing to run to? That there's no light at the end of the tunnel? Maybe that's why the headmaster hasn't helped you since you enrolled.'
'I. . . I don't know that.'
"Yuu!" They blink rapidly, pulled back to the warehouse in the forest. Around them are concerned faces.
"Are you okay? You were staring and not saying anything." Grim is gazing up at them, paws on their thighs. They then realize that their teddy bear had been tugging on their shirt and pat its head, noticing their hand trembling.
"Y-yeah. I just. . ." They falter, their heart being squeezed. "How much longer am I supposed to wait until I can go home?"
There was a moment of silence. The teddy bear moves in to give them a hug. "I can't imagine what it's like to miss your family like that. I'm sorry you're feeling that way," Kalim says quietly. "And your dad too. You both must miss each other so much."
They don't say anything. Kalim puts a warm hand on their shoulder, even though there are short dark wisps outlining their body that Kalim thinks is just his eyes tricking him. "If you need a hug or help in your search for home, we can do that. All you need to do is ask!"
"And you always found a way, Yuu, even if things seemed against you." Deuce smiles encouragingly.
"It's definitely been a big help when the Overblots happened. You keep freaking out about a lot of things, but you're actually tougher than you think and have the brains to go with it," Ace says.
"Yeah! And you have me and your teddy bear. Nothing went wrong when you had us by your side, but especially your benevolent boss, the Great Grim!" He puffs out his chest with a proud grin.
Yuu wants to accept Kalim's hug. They want the reassurance that everything was going to be fine, that a solution would be found soon, that they will see their dad again. They want to be held warmly like they would hug their teddy bear, but a voice inside of them freezes them in place with its whispers.
They all say this, but the next time someone Overblots, you might not come out alive. You barely survived the last one after all.
It might not be an Overblot, even.
Your friends and classmates, they have something that enables them to survive better in this world. The battles have proved that.
What would have happened if your teddy bear hadn't been with you? It will only be a matter of time before something goes wrong.
You would not have a chance to say good bye.
Yuu takes a shaky breath in. "It's so easy for all of you to say that."
Yuu's head rises, a wry smile on their lips. "You're right, Kalim, you can't imagine that because your family is a phone call away. I can't even send a letter to my dad."
(For a moment, they feel regret upon seeing Kalim's hurt face. He was only trying to help.)
The squeeze in their heart had slowly strengthened as their friends talked. At this point, it felt like their heart was a fruit in a hydraulic press; things were starting to spill out, but very soon, it would burst into a million pieces. "And I'm not tough. I'm not strong like all of you. You're better than me. I'm. . . I'm scared."
There. They said it.
"You don't know how terrified I am of the Overblots. It's more than you can imagine. I still get dreams about Riddle's and Leona's and everyone else's, and I sometimes see one of you guys getting impaled or lose an arm or just straight-up die." Their voice warbled at the word. In the corner of their eye, they notice Jamil grimacing. Their face feels hot and tears are regathering, blurring their vision once more.
"I miss my friends. I wonder if they'll still be there when I go back. I'm afraid of never being able to say good-bye to them or my dad. . . and my dad being gone already."
"Hang on, we don't even know if he's dead or not!" Ace swiftly points out.
"Did you already forget what I--huh?" Ruggie wonders if the wisps have gotten longer or if it was just him. Anyway, he doesn't like what he's seeing. "Hey, Yuu--"
"Yuu-Yuu!" the teddy bear yells, finally getting their attention. Their face crumbles when they see its worried face. They pet its head.
"You're the only thing I have from home, but people keep pretending to hurt you. I wish you would be more careful and I wish they would just stop. I don't know what I'll do if you die. And you all!"
They glare tearfully at those surrounding them. "I don't have magic to protect me when someone shoots something from their pen! I know one of these days, I'll catch on fire because I wasn't looking and. . . and. . ." They take a breath, but it sounds more like a sob. "Brains and toughness doesn't matter if I can't protect myself from magic spells."
"I just can't understand," they say, their voice deep with grief. "We're in a world of magic, anything can happen! Multiple Overblots happened and it's supposed to be a rare thing! I could fucking die!"
"Wait, this aura!" Ruggie recognized it now. He saw it surround Leona and Azul right before they Overblotted.
"It can't be. . . !" Kalim says almost breathily, eyes wide in fear and concern.
"Everyone, get back!" Jamil yells. He pulls Kalim away by the arm while the others hurry to their feet. Ace snatches the teddy bear out of Yuu's hands and doesn't look to see their reaction. The awoken survivors and his schoolmates and friends had been watching with concern when Yuu started yelling, but now were scrambling to move away.
"Why can't the headmaster--of all his god damn graciousness--understand how much it's all killing me?"
A shockwave sends everyone in the room flying towards the walls. Thankfully, no one gets too close to hitting the hard surfaces, but in exchange, they get scraps and bruises from the floor.
When they look up, an ink monster in the form of a bear towers over the Ramshackle Prefect, its glass-container head missing the cork. Their outfit is a patchwork of the clothes they had been wearing when they got whisked away and pieces of ink-stained fabric. It's impossible to tell what the patterns are, if any, and accessories hang on like hastily glued random objects on an art project, incomplete and the purpose only assumed. The lining where their clothes and fabric meet are covered by thick, solid blobs of ink.
They breathe in and out heavily, droplets of ink running down their forehead as though someone had dropped a bucket of the liquid on them. Their eyes are wide and gaze ahead at nothing specific.
The ink monster snorts and twitches. It suddenly throws its head back as Yuu opens their mouth, and together, they let out a guttural roar and scream.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The dorm leaders were stunned silent.
"Oh my." Malleus whips around and glares at the kidnapper.
"What did you do to them?" he growls.
"Nothing more than what I did with the other orphans, and you can see that those orphans are fine. Most importantly, aren't they supposed to be magicless?" The kidnapper spoke lightly and conversationally, a small smile on his lips and eyes wide, hinting of madness.
"Whether they have magic doesn't matter. Tell us what you did," Riddle demands. At the same time he spoke, the kidnapper continued.
"Although--and this is what amazes me--aren't they also a student at a prestigious magic school? There's magic abound and I'm sure there will be amazing, rare phenomena as a result of powerful people attending at the same time."
"Are you suggesting this is our fault?" Leona cut in.
"Oh, no, only speculating. But..." The kidnapper slyly tilts his head. "If you want to acknowledge anything. . ."
"How dare you insinuate such a thing!" Malleus roars, smoke beginning to plume out of his lips. The dorm leaders beside him lean away.
"Malleus, wait." Lilia touches his arm, body relaxed and tone unbetraying of anything. "We need him alive to face the consequences."
"Perhaps you may not have done anything," the kidnapper says, "but the rest of the student body might. Usually, those with magic are revered for just that. Ego is bound to be stroked, and it must be baffling or downright ridiculous that a magicless nobody was accepted with no issue. Someone like that doesn't belong in a prestigious school like Night Raven College."
"From the way you describe them, you don't believe they have a spine," Vil observes, crossing his arms with a glare. "It takes more than just magical capabilities to stay at this school."
"Whether or not they do have a spine--and I am sure they do if they can get through their school days surrounded by chaos without fail--doesn't change the fact that something has been haunting them to make THIS happen. If I'm not mistaken, emotional distress can catalyze Overblots."
"Wait a moment, all those times their teddy bear told us that they were hurt. . ." Riddle murmurs.
"They must have been keeping something to themself," Azul quietly says.
"That still doesn't explain why they--a 'magicless nobody'--Overblotted," Leona says. "So? Are you going to tell us or not?"
He turns his head, as do the other dorm leaders, after another shockwave pushes them, coupled by a roar and a scream. Some of the others are carrying or holding up survivors, in the middle of bringing them out of the warehouse, and the rest are standing by remaining survivors or are lifting their pens to cast another spell.
"Perhaps that can be saved for later. You all have much bigger and badder things to contend with and I certainly don't mind waiting and watching."
The kidnapper is knocked out with a punch.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fireballs, lightning strikes, sparks of void or light, and icy projectiles. Sometimes, the boys thought Yuu was mimicking their spell-casting movements. The worst attack, though, had to be when the ink monster roared: though protection spells have kept them from flying away, the sound shakes them to their core. It steals the breath from their lungs and dredges up a feeling of dread.
It doesn't help that Yuu screams with the monster. They're stressed, that much is clear, and their tears are mixed with the ink that dribbles from their forehead. But the single cry at the end of some screams sounds like a cry of sadness, like you would hear from a lost child. One of the survivors even began to cry, and it was the same person who was holding onto Yuu's panicked teddy bear.
Finally, all of the survivors were brought to safety. At the same time, Idia's tablet finished rebooting, having been affected by the first shockwave. "Ortho! Are you there?"
"I'm here, Nii-san!" He lets go of the tablet.
"Perfect timing," says Vil. "Idia, can you search up anything about magicless humans that have Overblotted?"
"Wait, what? Hang on, did I just hear you say 'magicless human' and 'Overblot' in the same sentence? Shouldn't you know by now that that's imposs--" Vil huffs and turns Idia's tablet towards the battle, just in time for someone to hit the ink monster with wind magic. ". . . What the actual fuck?"
"Nii-san, I tried searching on my own, but I haven't been able to find a single reliable source that can help with this," Ortho explains. "Can you try finding something on your end?"
"I don't think there will be anything. Overblots happen because a magician goes way below the MP bar, like fantastically below, while having a mental breakdown. Average people like Yuu don't have MP bars, so there's not going to be any results if I search."
"Can you please try anyways?" Ortho begs. "There might be something that can tell us how to safely handle this."
After a brief moment of silence, Idia sighs. "All right. I'll look."
"Has anyone noticed that they haven't said anything?" Grim asks.
"You know, that is kind of weird," Floyd remarks. "But then again, this isn't a usual case."
He and those around him put up a barrier when the ink monster roars. "Ughhh, this is getting old! When can we stop holding back? Sea lion and some of the others sure aren't."
"We don't know the effects of casting magic on Yuu in this state. It's possible that the reason they're like this is because they gathered magic from being around us," Azul says.
"I get that, but the last times we fought an Overblotted person, we used magic on them and they came out fine."
"We can't take any risks. . ." But Azul knew that not giving their all also had the same risks. It was absolutely frustrating!
"Nope. Nada. Zero results."
"Then. . . all that's left is to fight them?" Ortho says.
"It worked on the other problem children, it might work on them."
"If that's the only way to bring them back to their senses, then there's no point in hesitating. Come, we must let the others know," Vil says.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the spells intensified, so did the spells Yuu sent out. The ink monster began to get more aggressive too, leaping away from Yuu to pounce on the boys or claw at them, but it immediately returned to Yuu's side whenever they got hit, growling angrily. Strangely, the number of scream-roar shockwaves didn't increase.
But suddenly, in the middle of a scream, Yuu coughs. Ink spills out of their mouth, and more comes when Yuu doubles over into a hacking fit. At the same time, the ink monster spasms and slowly hunches over, covering its head like it was trying to hide away from the world.
When it is finally over, Yuu slowly looks up. Their eyes are clear, and they take in the faces around them silently. Despite hope that Yuu has come back to their senses and wanting to check on them, no one moves from their spot.
"Yuu?" Grim calls. Yuu locks onto him and they blink.
"Grim. . ." they all but mouth, starting to sway.
Their eyes suddenly roll to the back of their head.
All at once, they fall to the side and lie motionless. Ink starts dribbling out of their mouth like blood from a stabbed victim.
The silence, taut like an old sailing rope that was beginning to unravel, had made their fall louder than it should in such a large space. It seemed to cement the horror that had just happened.
Then multiple cries cut through the air, almost at the same time.
"YUU!"
Sweeter Than Whipped Cream
Tumblr media
A tiny, 612 word Jade x Yuu fic inspired by Jade’s birthday jacket card.
I know it’s not even close to his birthday anymore, but I was staring at the groovy art recently— as one does— and happened to imagine this cute little scenario and thought I might as well put it into writing and share it with all of you!
Characters: Jade Leech, Yuu, Silver, Floyd Leech (mentioned only briefly as “the other birthday boy”), and a crowd of ambiguous party goers
Includes: established relationship, PDA, They/them pronouns for Yuu, and Yuu being shorter than Jade
“That’s it for the interview,” Silver said, folding the list of questions and slipping it into his pocket. “Next up is…”
Yuu adjusted their grip on the ghost camera as the Diasomnia student delicately picked up the paper plate piled high with whipped cream from the nearby table.
“The main event that wraps it all up— the ‘good-luck’ gift, correct?” The birthday boy said, remaining perfectly unfazed.
“Precisely. Are you ready, Jade?” Silver asked.
“Of course,” he replied with a smile. “I’ve been eagerly awaiting this moment. Please, don’t hold back in the slightest.”
A smile tugged at the corners of Yuu’s lips as well. They had gotten rather good at reading their boyfriend’s emotions in the time since they had started dating, and they could tell his words were genuine. Jade’s playful and fun-loving nature had been a big part of what made them fall in love with him, so they were equally excited to see this go down.
“Alright. I’ll fulfill my duty as interviewer with my full strength,” Silver said, with all the formality of a proper knight. He drew back his arm and took a breath in. Yuu raised the camera, finger poised over the shutter-button. “Happy birthday—,“ the pie was thrown, “Jade!!”
Yuu captured the moment impact— the birthday boy standing perfectly still and composed as the plate of whipped cream collided with his face, cream flying in all directions— and continued snapping photo’s of the aftermath. Cheers rose up from the crowd of party goers, the other birthday boy being the loudest among them.
Jade caught the plate as it fell, leaving a mess behind on his face and the front of his nice, new jacket. A wide smile broke through his gentlemanly façade, which only crumbled further as he began to giggle, lifting the back of his free hand to his mouth in a poor attempt to hide.
Yuu’s heart fluttered in their chest as they captured that perfect shot. Then they lowered the camera and sighed lovingly. Even someone as shameless as their boyfriend could still be the tiniest bit embarrassed at being the center of attention, and it was yet another thing they adored about him.
“Here’s a towel to wipe off your face,” Silver said, stepping up to Jade and offering said towel.
The birthday boy chuckled, setting the plate on the nearby table. “One moment, Silver,” he said, then turned to face his partner. “Yuu.”
“Hm?”
A mischievous glint shone in his dual colored eyes and he smiled while leaning down closer. “Would you still be willing to kiss me even in this state?” He asked, equal parts teasing and hopeful.
The corners of the prefect’s smile twisted in amusement, even as their cheeks flushed. “Oh, come here!” they said, lifting their hands to pull their boyfriend’s face closer.
Their lips met for only a brief second and another cheer rang out from the crowd, this time with a couple wolf whistles mixed in.
Jade stood back upright, wearing his biggest grin yet, and Yuu giggled while wiping whipped cream off the tip of their nose.
The birthday boy finally accepted the towel from Silver, who was looking just a tad bit uncomfortable, and attempted to hold it out to his partner, but they shook their head.
“You need it more than I do.”
Jade smiled. “I figured you would say that, but I had to at least offer,” he said, finally beginning to clean himself up.
Yuu smiled as well. “I know,” they said, with warmth in their voice. Their boyfriend’s gentlemanly side was just was sweet as his playful one. And combined he was truly sweeter than whipped cream. <3
One More Happy Ending
Tumblr media
Characters: Azul Ashengrotto, Jade Leech, Floyd Leech.
Genre: Remarriage, Romance, Mild angst.
Summary: In which your sick husband asks you to remarry as his final wish.
Warnings:
Character death in the first part. Reader is a female, has a child with Jade and has long hair.
The wedding setup is inspired by one of my fave movies.
“If I would die today, my darling, I would die knowing that your life was my life’s best part. I would remember that you were the heart that kept me alive.”
Hanging your head low, you desperately held back the unshed tears from falling.
You couldn’t look at your husband without crying because looking at him in that state shattered your heart into pieces.
His illness took a toll on him, but despite being on the brink of death, Jade Leech never lost his smile. His dazzling smile that rivaled the shine of the sun was still present.
“I have one last wish. Would you hear me out and fulfill it, my love?”
“What is it, sweetheart?” you got up from the chair, taking the empty space beside him on the hospital bed.
“I wish you all the happiness in the world, so after you move on from my death, I want you to marry Azul.” Jade held your hand, his grip was tight as if his life depended on it. “Once you get married, don’t feel guilty about it.”
He paused briefly, bursting into fits of coughing.
“I know that you love Azul as much as you love me, and he loves you too more than anything.”
Another pause ensued, followed by a weak sigh, then eventually his body went limp and still in your hold.
Minutes later, Dr. Riddle Rosehearts, the doctor in charge who was also your longtime friend rushed inside the ward, his expression heartbroken and crestfallen.
“I pronounce Jade Leech dead. Time of death 10:04 A.M.” He announced tearfully as he pulled you into a consoling hug. “I’m very sorry for your loss.”
After Riddle left, you stared at your deceased husband, allowing your tears to flow freely.
After weeping for a long time, a faint smile embraced your lips as you recalled what Jade told you a week ago.
My darling wife, when I leave this world, I hope you’re here beside me.
I hope I look peaceful with the sun shining down on me.
Indeed, Jade died while you were by his side, looking serene and at peace, as if he never suffered from an illness.
He died in a sun-lit room, his face glowed beautifully beneath the mellow sunlight of the autumn season.
“Thank you for sharing your love and your life with me. You made my dreams come true, and I am forever grateful.” you smiled, brushing one last kiss on his face.
★ —
As you and Azul placed a bouquet of violets in front of Jade’s gravestone, a painful pang struck you like a bullet.
Seven years flew by since you lost Jade, and the heartache was still there.
When he died, you and Azul couldn’t tuck him in your hearts because he couldn’t fit.
He died young, and before his time, so you couldn’t seal him away like that because sealing meant forgetting.
“I loved Jade from the moment I met him. We were like long lost soulmates who finally found each other.” you said softly, gazing at the wide, blue sky.
“He was really a great friend.” Azul chimed in, smiling afterwards.
Despite not moving on from his death, you and your best friend still managed to find new happiness and new beginnings.
You lived a joyful life with your daughter whom you were expecting when Jade passed away.
She was named Daisy, in loving memory of your late husband who always gifted you bouquet of daisies during your dates.
She was born five months after his death, and she was seven years old at the moment.
Daisy was the female version of Jade.
She had the same glimmering mismatched eyes and gorgeous teal hair except hers was wavy, and the way she smiled was exactly like him.
She was a little prankster and mischievous like her uncle Floyd, and she enjoyed teasing you a lot.
She was your light when all hopes were lost, and that’s what you loved about her the most.
★ —
“Uncle Azul!” Daisy clung onto Azul’s leg.
Although the latter was busy baking, he still acknowledged the girl.
“Yes, my little flower?”
“When will I start going to an elite school like NRC?”
“When you turn sixteen.” Azul glanced down at her.
“Hmph, still a long way.” Daisy pouted.
He lifted her in his arms, and with a grin, he smeared a blob of icing on her tiny nose.
“Gee uncle, why do you always smear icing on my nose every time you bake?”
“Because I love you.” The silver haired man smiled, lightly pinching the child’s cheeks.
“And I love you more than mama.” your daughter giggled, putting her small arms around Azul.
“Daisy Leech, how dare you say that!”
They froze upon hearing your voice. They turned around, only to see you glaring at them in a playful manner.
“Oh, hey dear best friend.” Azul grinned.
“Tsk, you and your stupid grin.”
“Uncle’s grin is not stupid!”
“Just kidding.” you chuckled as you stood beside Azul.
While watching him putting icing on the blueberry cake which he usually baked during Sunday mornings, you felt your daughter tugging on your sleeve.
“Mama and uncle Azul, can we sit down for a few minutes? I have something to tell you.”
Upon hearing that, the man set down the icing nozzle as he sat on the floor, and you followed suit.
“Last night someone visited me in my dreams. I think the man was my late father.” said your daughter. “He asked me if uncle Azul is treating us well. I told him yes, and I told him that he makes mama so happy. Father seemed relieved hearing my answer.”
“Uncle Azul, I know it’s not my place to say this, but will you do the honor to marry my mama, and adopt me?” The girl reached for your best friend’s hand, her eyes glistening. “I always considered you a family, but I want us to be a real family.”
It wasn’t shocking hearing such thing from your child, but you didn’t expect that she would bring this topic in the open one day.
“I would be happy to marry your mother and have you as my daughter, but only if your mama is okay with it.” Azul glanced at you, a gentle smile adorning his face.
“Of course I’m okay with it.” you returned the same smile, feeling a new love blooming in the empty space in your heart.
★ —
(Two years later)
Today was supposed to be your another big day, but it was postponed due to a small incident.
Three days ago, you were hanging out with your daughter in your treehouse, and while heading down, you missed a step and fell down.
The treehouse wasn’t high, but it still left you with one twisted ankle.
You weren’t upset, but you were a little sad that your wedding was postponed until you recovered.
Unbeknown to you, your friends already planned everything.
“Rise and shine. You gotta get ready.” Floyd gently shook your sleeping figure awake.
“Get ready for what?” you mumbled before fluttering your eyes open.
“For your wedding.” Floyd leaned forward, a big grin plastered on his face.
“What wedding are you talking about? It’s postponed for a week.”
Floyd could only giggle, looping an arm around your body to help you get up.
Once Floyd was done with your makeup and your other friends helped you dress up, you headed to the wedding venue.
You could swear that your friends were creative.
With a permission granted from the hospital administrators, a makeover was done to the hospital’s cafeteria, turning it into a wonderful wedding hall.
“You guys really did this?” you marveled at the beauty of the place.
“Yeah, and Azul helped too.”
“W-what? He really did?”
“I know that he’s the groom, but it was honestly your man's idea in the first place.” Floyd winked at you.
Thrilled and giddy with excitement, you clamped a hand over your mouth to muffle your squeals.
“You’re one lucky lady.” Floyd remarked, chuckling softly.
★ —
Once all the invited guests arrived, your chosen wedding soundtrack started to play in the background.
Your right hand was in Floyd’s grasp, fingers interlaced, and your other hand was holding tight onto the crutch.
“Scared?” He asked quietly, his thumb brushing your knuckles to calm your nerves.
“Not at all.” you beamed a smile. “Just make sure I won’t fall.”
“You won’t,” Floyd smiled back. “You have me.”
The two of you began walking down the aisle, heads high, and postures calm and relaxed.
You looked beautiful in your simple yet stunning wedding gown, handpicked by Mrs. Leech, your previous mother-in-law.
Your hair was curled, radiating beneath the lights, and a pretty crown of blue daisies sat atop your head.
You teared up when you neared Azul, and you almost cried when you spotted your beloved nine year old daughter in the front row, cheering for you.
“I’m so happy for you, mama.” she said, smiling brightly.
★ —
“Do you, Azul Ashengrotto take (...) to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love her and cherish her to the end of your days?”
Azul looked at you, drowning into your gaze, and your enchanting smile spared him a breath.
“I do.” He exclaimed as he placed the ring on your finger. “From this day forward, I promise you that even when the skies tear apart, even when the sun burns out and the lights go out, I will love you to whatever end awaits us.”
The man who officiated the ceremony turned to you.
“Do you, (...) take Azul Ashengrotto to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love him and cherish him to the end of your days?”
“I do.” you responded, eyes glittering like gemstones. “From this day forward, I vow to share my love, my happiness and my sadness with you. As long as we shall live, I will be here for you, for love and death go together.”
The man announced. “I now pronounce you husband and wife.”
As soon as you and Azul shared a kiss, the room erupted with clapping, gleeful cheers and cheerful squeals.
Some had happy smiles on their faces, and some had tears of joy in their eyes.
It was a heartwarming feeling seeing the guests genuinely happy and excited for you, but what mattered the most at the moment was the two of you.
Under the bright blue skies, you found a home in each other, and you’d never be apart.
For you and Azul, home was never a certain place.
It was anywhere as long as you were together.
He’s heard all that the adults have said about soulmates. How they met, the dreams they had and the like.  He’s heard them talk about the dreams the soulmates shared, how they communicated with each other through the dreams. Jade has heard them all.
To say that his shared dreams were... interesting, would be an understatement.
Sometimes he would be in the skies, idly floating by as some type of disaster occurred below him. Other times, Jade would find himself in the disaster, sometimes drinking tea that would somehow enable him to fly. And every time, he would be at the side of the one who was his soulmate, he supposed.
Always by their side, going through the motions of the dream together. There weren’t many moments where the two would talk, too busy running from whatever beast or antagonist that decided to chase you two. But, when there was the occasional calmer dream, he was able to talk with his beloved soulmate.
Surprisingly, despite the dreams shared, there was the occasional calmer dream. The seaside always seemed to be the main setting for these dreams, sitting side by side as the waves tickled at their feet and talking about much more menial topics.
And when he finally, finally, met them, met you... he was ecstatic. Not outwardly ecstatic, mind you, as he saw you during a school ceremony and had to keep his composure.
Now, as all dreams are, people and places blurred in your memories and certain storylines are forgotten when you wake. The dreams shared with soulmates were no exception to this and whenever Jade would wake, a few pieces of information were forgotten, the plot of the story slipping through his grasp when he tried to remember. But the feelings always stayed, a few things said and the lingering feelings of touch always stayed. So, when Jade first saw you, those same feelings bloomed, aching with nostalgia and familiarity.
How he wanted to reach out, encase you, squeeze you tightly in his arms and never let go. Then you saw him too, your eyes caught his and you smiled at him. Seven, your smile was breathtaking.
Even Azul and Floyd noticed Jade’s contained excitement, commenting on it in very different ways.
“What’s got you so wound up Jade?” Azul had only talked when they were on their way to the Mostro Lounge, in the privacy of the somewhat empty halls.
“You looked like you were gonna burst up like pufferfish!” Floyd giggled, a sharp grin directed to his twin. Jade only chuckled softly, keeping his usual calm smile.
And the only thing he said; “I’ll introduce you to them later.”
Anyone else would have questioned the mer’s words and Azul only had to think briefly before Floyd answered his questions for him.
“What?! You met your soulmate before me?!” His twin groaned loudly, whining about how unfair it was that he hasn’t met his own soulmate yet either. Azul only made a light huff and continued walking.
You two finally met the next day in the courtyard, perhaps by fate or by Jade’s own desperation to properly meet you. And when he had you in your arms for the first time, oh how wonderful it felt. It sent electricity through his veins and the warmth of familiarity filled his chest.
The days after that, students wouldn’t find you without Jade by your side and vice versa, either a hand placed on the small of your back or hand in hand. Always meeting with each other whenever class would end or finding you in the Mostro Lounge, doing your homework as Jade works, periodically coming to your table to check on you or give you a quick kiss on the lips.
Talking to you, spending time with you, being with you, it was wonderful. You were absolutely wonderful.
The door to his room soon enough opened and Jade knew it was you, instantly recognising your footsteps. Yes, he’s recognized your footsteps.
“Hey, Jade!”
Jade lifted his head from where he was writing down some new observations of his terrarium, humming to let you know that he acknowledged your words. Your footsteps came closer, soon coming behind Jade and placing your chin on his shoulder.
You were silent as he finished writing the final details, waiting until he stood from his seat to wrap your arms around him, smiling at your soulmate gleefully. Jade could only chuckle, a hand reaching to pat your head.
His same calm smile was still present as his gloved fingers would brush against the top of your head. Even through the gloves, every touch felt like electricity to him, sparking his chest with “Did you need something, dearest?”
With a shake of your head, you smile still. Jade chuckles lightly, pressing a kiss against the edge of your lips. A blush blooms across your skin and you can feel a lovesick smile spread on your lips.
“Now then, would you like to move this cuddling to the bed, or will you continue to stand and hug me?”
Realizing the current position, you laugh gently, sending squirming butterflies into Jade’s stomach. The hug is quickly moved to the bed and turns into a cuddling session, Jade’s longer limbs wrapping around your torso and pulling you in close. His hand raises back to your head, fingers playing with your accessories, your hair, anything that could busy his fingers during this.
The eel pressed his lips against yours, a gentle kiss that sparked so many emotions. He was soft as he pulled you closer, an arm settled on your waist and the other on the back of your head. Your hands curled around the front of his blazer, happy to recuperate the affection. His touch was gentle, never tugging too hard or pinching too hard. Jade would treat you as if you were made of fragile glass, the greatest treasure in the world.
And you were.
You were his greatest treasure, the pearl of his eyes, and everything to him. Something that he wanted to see day and night, both thankfully things that were given to him. When the two of you finally pulled away, the smile you gave him was truly brightening.
Truly, you were meant for him.
Any thoughts of having a FWB with Jade??
I feel like he would be curious to explore his human body more since it's quite different from his Merform
also, he's low-key, probably interested in the female human body, and who better to ask for help than the magicless only girl in NRC 👀
It’s a guarantee that fooling around in a fwb relationship with Jade will end with a pregnancy. >:) even he can be impulsive like Floyd when it’s regarding something he truly wants.
The feelings aren’t mutual (yet), so Jade makes it his mission to get you to love him. He might become a little more particular than he already is. He makes sure his hair is brushed and styled perfectly. He makes sure his side of the room always smells and looks pretty. He makes sure he says and does everything you like to hear and see. He tries to become your ideal partner in the bedroom, doing everything that’s suited to your tastes even if he has to forego his own pleasure. Normally, Jade wouldn’t go to these lengths if he didn’t want to. He never does anything he doesn’t want to do, so he really is devoted to ensuring you’re his partner for the long-term. He could cheat and use magic, slip small doses of love potion into your meals or drinks, but he wants to play fair this time. He does want a genuine relationship, after all. Loveless sex is fun, but he wants to be able to tell you he sincerely loves you without having to fret over the annoying barrier that is friendship.
Jade is so charming. Even when the both of you aren’t having sex or experimenting with mer and human anatomy, he’s so alluring and, oddly enough, cute. Sometimes Jade slips up (though sometimes it might be intentional) and you’ll see the real Jade behind the veneer he’s crafted for your sake. The real Jade gets excited over little things: his plants and mushrooms finally sprouting in the botanical gardens or a new recipe he’s learned recently and has been trying so hard to replicate. This Jade is very refreshing to be around because he’s so authentic, if only for a moment. Somehow he’s never considered that his real self could be lovable. You manage to surprise him when you comment on how cute he is when he’s so focused on cooking that new recipe or when his eyes light up while he’s tending to his fungi. Jade Leech, cute? That’s unheard of, so much so that shock briefly flickers on his face and his cheeks flare pink. To think it was possible to surprise and fluster Jade. Oh, the things you do to him…
He’s always so diligent when it comes to sex. He makes sure to wear protection, even if he has to stifle all thoughts of you waddling around campus with your pregnant belly. He has to be responsible because that’s what he’s been seen as for so long now: the responsible one. The one who is polite and respectful. The one who could do no wrong. The one who cleans up messes rather than making them. But there’s always the urge to sabotage all forms of contraception and knock you up so that you’ll finally be more than friends…
One day he will. That’s a promise. Until then, he has to make sure you’re properly in love with him so that when you do mysteriously fall pregnant you won’t be so averse to a forever relationship with him. It’s impossible to have a no-strings-attached fwb relationship with Jade because the moment you agreed to fool around with him he’s already attached his own secret strings to you. And these can’t be cut so easily.
