Tiny Review: The Florida Project 2017. Living in the shadows of Disney World.

It’s one of those experiential, thoughtprovoking movies. Not really a story imo. No character development or arc.

It’s an eyeopener on the lowest caste in the Disneyland hierarchy. A really good commentary on poverty and wealth disparity. Through the eyes of a child.

I wonder how they got permission to film though.

The Florida Project Movie Review

The Florida Project is a 2017 film directed by Sean Baker, starring Bria Vinaite as Hailey and Brooklynn Prince as Moonee. The film takes place in Orlando, Florida, where a little girl named Moonee and her young single mother, Hailey, live in a motel outside of Disney World. Struggling to make ends meet, Hailey takes increasingly dangerous jobs to provide for her daughter.

The film is open to interpretation, but in my opinion, it is about childhood innocence with the harsh realities of poverty. The story is told through the eyes of Moonee, who lives in a motel just outside the magical wonderland of Disney World. Despite Moonee and her friends finding their own ways to create joy in their surroundings, the film vividly portrays the struggles their families face in meeting basic needs.

The Florida Project is a masterfully crafted piece of cinema that highlights the innocence and naivety of childhood amidst the backdrop of poverty. It is a difficult watch, but I have to give this film a 10/10 for its raw and authentic portrayal of growing up in the lower class.
