i Have to know what wwi au duck hunt is about??

duck hunt is one of the more complicated ones--i wrote it back in college and began rewriting it a year and a half ago?? it's a climactic insane moment where elliot confesses to nol and i wanted to shape it up bc it feels like this the entire way thru

theyre wandering around in the fields nearby the psychiatric hospital nol is a patient at. hes very comfortable in nature with his rifle, looking for things to kill, while eli is worriedly tagging along w an umbrella

nol kills a couple ducks and collects them, making him even more brainlessly content w himself. it starts pouring and nol leads them to a gazebo beside a heavy river w a bunch of canoes

they have this tense, awkward talk abt eating and food, then nol decides he wants to swim bc hes already wet and he's still riding this weird, unthinking high of feeling in his element. elliot's like, no wtf

so nol grabs him and runs across the canoes like a plank bridge until one inevitably shifts and knocks them into the river. eli panics, and nol yanks them back to the shore.

theres a huge physicality to the water eli gets dragged from, the shore pebbles he gets pulled onto, nol's hands on him and nol's body above his to shield him from the rain. this is not making eli feel any better, and hes like 'fml never do that again sir'

the convo becomes 'why do u call me sir. its weird.' / bc i respect u / 'no u dont. theres smth wrong w ur respect.'

so eli just explodes like yeah!! there IS smth wrong w it!! and wrong w me!! and im gonna just spell it out in the most convoluted way bc im frustrated and afraid!!

so nol sits there with a single dead braincell. barely understands any of it. and comes out of the convo with a Sinking Suspicion that being institutionalized for several manic breakdowns in Not the worst thing wrong with him, and perhaps he is in love w this medic thats been bullying him across the somme offensive

since windows xp came out everyone's been talking about this new instant message thing that lets you chat with your friends, everyone had it, your friends, your whole school had made an account on it, hell even your teachers used it, everyone except you and that was because you didn't even own a computer in the first place. you've begged and begged your parents until they got you one, you didn't care what kind of computer it was, even the cheapest and the shittiest worked for you as long as you could chat with your friends it was safe to say that they bullied you into getting one you made an account and signed in, typing in the search bar their weird usernames to add them to your 'friends list'. you made sure to write all their usernames down on a piece of paper before you rushed home, Ellie even had to explain to you how to do it. you picked a random icon for your profile and tried your best to pick a not so stupid and childish username who thought that picking a username for your account would be so hard? shit, you swore you probably spent more time picking a user than on your math problems and you weren't even that good in math.

you made sure to include your name in it so that your friends would recognize you and not freak out when they saw a friend request from a certain somebody

Two figures were walking in the deep snow of Copper-9. The abandoned buildings and torn humanity should've painted a grim scene for them, but they couldn't care less.

Teenage romance doesn't care about the setting after all.

The two in question were walking hand in hand, their eye lights lighting up the path in front of them. Of course, it's none other than Uzi and N's eldest, Shuriken Doorman and his girlfriend Brianna who is the daughter of Lizzy and Thad. Brianna was leaning slightly on him, while Shuriken's tail was curled around her waist.

Where were they going? Well, it's been their first date in a while and Brianna prepared something with her girlies to have a fun time with her boyfriend.

"it's up ahead!" She said excitedly, pulling Shuriken's hand. He laughed and sped up, allowing her to pull him into a clearing.

It was clean and void of any scrap metal, the snow has been spread out evenly. Fairy lights were hung by wooden posts all around the couple.

"surprise!" Brianna grinned at him, her face lit up by the lights.

His mouth hung open in amazement. He looked around and he recognized it as a recreation of the school Prom, where the couple confessed their feelings to each other.

"Bri, this is amazing! You did this?"

She blushed lightly and nodded. "Well, I had the help of a few buddies with the lights, but yeah"

She paused and shuffled her feet " uhm...do you like it?"

Shuriken looked at her and hugged her close, emitting a squeak of surprise from the worker drone.

"Are you kidding? I love it!" He let go of her, his tail wagging like a fan.

Brianna grinned and took off her jacket, to reveal a pink and maroon dress. The same one she wore at prom.

She then held out her hand with a raised eyebrow.

"Shuriken Doorman, could I have this dance?"

He took a moment, pausing on how beautiful his girlfriend looked. Her blonde hair was let down, it's waviness catching the brightness of the yellow lights hung around. Her dress was sleeveless and the figure was hugging her body, the curves outlined by the fabric. Shuriken started blushing, flustered all over again on how he managed to pull such a hottie like Brianna.

He shook his head and took off his jacket, revealing a purple and yellow tuxedo. He then took her hand, and pulled Brianna flush against him.

"you may" he responded finally, his tail curled around her again.

She smiled softly, and his insides felt like butter. Brianna went on her HUD and played some music to go along with the mood.

"Playing: Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Golding"

The couple then began to slow dance, their feet creating patterns in the snow. Shuriken took the lead, his one hand on her waist and the other holding her hand. He looked down at his girlfriend and chuckled softly.

"what?" Brianna said, her head cocked to one side.

"That's why you wanted me to wear the tux, huh?"

She smiled and kissed him on the cheek, tippy toeing to reach him.

"Yeah, you guessed it" she laughed, leading him along the clearing.

They danced until the song hit its final stanza, then Shuriken dipped Brianna, her hair just hitting the snow before he pulled her up again.

Once the song was over, she beckoned to a landing above them, though it had no lights. He picked her up and flew over there. Luckily this was a cloudless patch of sky and the teens could see the stars clearly.

"What luck we have tonight" Brianna said softly sitting down on a bench...or more like a plank of wood.

Shuriken followed and sat beside her, his tail curling. "Yeah, it sure is pretty"

Brianna looked at him, a slight green blush dusted her visor. "Y'know, you're the best thing that happened in my life Shuri"

He smiled and hugged her, allowing her to climb into his lap. He looked up at her, yellow also dusting his visor.

"Same here...I love you Bri. And I hope you stay with me throughout my life"

She giggled and kissed his hair. "I'll stay forever"

They looked at each other, their blushes growing. Brianna fiddled with her hair, and settled down more on his lap.

"Uhm... Shuriken?"

"y-yeah Brianna?" He stuttered out, the mood shifting from fluff to...something more.

She took a deep breath and looked in his eyes. "Can I kiss you?"

He smiled and pulled her in more, so that their bodies were flush against each other.

"Yes you can"

And with that she closed her lips around his. Wrapping her hands around his neck, and his hands tangled in her hair. Shuriken's tail unconsciously wrapped around Brianna's waist, somehow pulling them more flush against each other. She deepened the kiss, her soft lips around his.

Then she felt Shuriken's tongue against her lips, and she opened up, feeling his tongue exploring her mouth. Shuriken's hand moved from her hair to her waist and she sighed into the kiss, her own tongue roaming in his mouth. They continued this for about a few more moments before ending the kiss.

The teens were panting and looking away, their visors were covered in yellow and green but their arms were still around each other. Shuriken looked up, his expression dazed but full of love for his girlfriend.

"Thank you...for everything"

"Anything for you" she responded softly, closing in and once again forgetting the harsh reality around them and entering a world with just the two of them and the stars above.

-> My only complaint with this book is it was too fucking short. 😠 Astonishing worldbuilding and a very rich story for what amounts to a novella. Love.

-> Following on from the scifi of Pargin's Zoey series and Maze-Born Trouble. This was good. I doubt I'll read more in the series because from the blurbs they're quite disparate, but holy hell the world that was built was incredible.

Mystic River, Dennis Lehane

-> Complicated reason why I read this that actually has to do with OOC. Also technically a reread, from a while ago. Love Lehane, though, and this as a standalone is very good. Has some examples of omniscient POV that I would almost classify as head-hopping that actually works, and as a thriller, so an interesting read for a writer as well.

BLOG 3: SOURCES: INTERTEXTUALITY IN MEDIA

I've always had an inclination towards discovering Easter eggs in the games I play, often devoting extra time to find those little treasures. Most games introduce them gradually, but God of War Ragnarök did something completely different, and I was really impressed.

Kvasir's Poems, a collectible item that serves as a direct invitation to the gameplay's Easter egg universe. In contrast to other games, God of War Ragnarök reveals all of its secrets to you up front. I was captivated by this novel approach and couldn't help but gather and delve into the intriguing backstories of Kvasir's poetry.

About Kvasir's Poems (From God of War Ragnarök)

The mythological character Kvasir, who was created when the gods Vanir and Aesir united through divine spit, represents harmony between these heavenly groups. Born of Norse mythology, this figure became a poet beloved in all worlds and, in the end, became known as the God of Knowledge.

Kvasir is not a character that you meet directly in God of War Ragnarök, but he is mentioned frequently and is described as a highly intelligent person whose knowledge transcends the known worlds. In the player's journal, his poems are arranged neatly like priceless collectibles.

The creative way that each poem is incorporated as an Easter egg gives this story a brilliant touch. Not only do these verses improve the in-game experience, but they also subtly hint at the catalog of Sony PlayStation games. The strategic promotion at work is even more clever. Given that God of War was named Game of the Year in 2018 and enjoyed great success, the sequel serves as a dynamic platform for the promotion of other games. Title: Large Society Ground Orb: The Performance

Reference: Major League Baseball: The Show Series

Justification: The verse exaggerates the game of baseball as a war. The branch in the hand is synonymous to bat. It also mentions running and then stopping which is basically the rule of baseball. Additionally, it also talks about 9 nights and 9 Days which is synonymous to the innings in the game. Moreover, the picture beside the text resonates a baseball.

Title: We Who Remain: Part the Second

Reference: Last of Us II

Justification: The verse subtly embraces the emotional side while focusing on the key themes of cyclical revenge, destruction, and loss. Joel is referred as the bearded, cruel father and Ellie is referred as the surrogate daughter. There is also a reflection of Cordyceps virus and the moth on the cover holds a deep depiction.

Justification: This verse brings out the friendships that are formed because of the need of the hour. Here, steel and fur are referred to as the eponymous heroes from Ratchet and Clank. There is clever correlation of how Ratchet carried his robotic buddy with him throughout the series with the lines of the poem.

Justification: Hideo Kojima’s divisive titles are often considered to be complex and bizarre, but this poem brings along a humorous nod to its introduction. A map of America is on the cover, highlighting the connections between colonies that these task players need to build up.

Justification: The title ‘Vision after Rest’ quite literally means Dreams which refers to a lesser-known game, Dreams. There is a controllable imp as the cover highlight. There is a lot of creative liberty that the players are given to design and remix worlds and characters as the poem lines also mean that the limit is our own imagination.

Kvasir's Seventh Poem

Title: Spirits Within Walls

Reference: Concrete Genie

Justification: By mentioning ‘a gentle boy and his brush’, the poem makes direct comparison to the game of Concrete Genie which is based on the imaginative graffiti-based game. It pays importance to the overarching gameplay and that takes the story forward and pushes Ash to save his hometown by bringing the art to life.

Title: Celestial Construct

Reference: Astrobot

Justification: The cover of this poem directly depicts the Astro bot, making it one of the easiest poem puzzles. It is instantly recognized by PS5 players because Astro Playroom comes as ready to play. However, the words have been specifically inspired from the Astro Bot Rescue Mission.

Title: Upon Pursuing a Place Not Marked on Maps

Reference: Uncharted

Justification: This poem is a direct reference from the Uncharted, highlighting the franchise’s key hunting premise and adds humor to Nathan Drake’s tendency to destroy things. The lines ‘strengthen your fingers’ refer to the climbing sections. There is an inclusion of the phrase ‘from small beginnings’ which is also a part of the Latin inscription of Nathan Drake’s famous ring, thus leaving the fans amused.

Justification: The verse is a Haiku which is written by the protagonist through the game of Ghost of Tsushima. There are elements like standoff and wind which are the primary nuance of the game. The image tagged along is a half-mask which is the iconic symbol of the game.

Oh my god I just realized vanessa park is mentioned in Going Bicoastal!! How many years from the daylight falls series has it been? Are she and Brie still together?
