tally of how many times I've seen the cast of Alien/s die on screen this Halloween season, because this is getting ridiculous.
Everyone who I've seen die more than once:
Ripley: 2 (Alien 3, Cabin in the Woods)
Brett: 2 (Alien, Escape from New York)
Vasquez: 2 (Aliens, Near Dark)
Hicks: 3 (Alien 3, Terminator, Tombstone)
Hudson: 4 (Aliens, Near Dark, Terminator, Tombstone but I know I'm missing one)
Bishop: 6 (Alien 3, Near Dark, Terminator, Scream 3, Pumpkinhead, AVP)
#i'm definitely missing one with bishop too bc I remember doing a count#and going ''i wached him die seven times in two weeks i'm not doing it again'' over someone asking#if i was interested in watching all the hellraiser movies (which. beside the point. nobody not him not david tennant#not jason isaacs not keira fucking knightly could get me to watch any hellraiser after the 3rd one)#but im?????#annie watches movies#CAST SOMEONE FROM THE ALIEN/S VERSE WITHOUT KILLING THEM OFF CHALLENGE.

OTHER NOTES:
I honestly thought blunt force trauma would be the highest when I first listed these. I was wrong!
I know (MAJOR PLVPW SPOILERS) that no one in PLVPW actually died except Newton Belduke, but I still felt as though it was prudent to list them here as victims.
Tasing is a form of electrocution.
Technically, falling and getting crushed could both be forms of blunt force trauma, but “blunt force trauma” is more “something hits you” than “you hit something” imo? I think it’s a distinction worth making.
There are a lot fewer poisonings than I thought. I didn’t know whether to put Diego’s poisoning under Memories or Beginnings, so I put both.
Simon Keyes was pretty inventive tbh
English Turnabout is the only case in PLVPW with a proper name. I generally ID the chapters with court segments as the ones that are the “case names”, which works for every case but the last.
I might have missed some? I know for sure I missed the original Di-Jun Huang, but I couldn’t find his cause of death poking around the wiki. Let me know if I missed any more!

Chicago Fire Season 4 Ep. 12 "Not Everyone Makes It"
Freddie's father asks Herrmann to forgive his son. Casey learns that a shelter for people displaced by the tornado may close. Casey attends a fundraiser at the request of an alderman. Dawson and Brett face consequences after telling Boden about Chili's erratic behaviour.
If you want to watch the series for yourself, stop reading! This post contains spoilers to the storyline.
Freddie’s trial starts tonight on Chicago Fire. The State’s Attorney tried the case personally after Freddie assaulted a city official with a deadly weapon. Herrmann approved. He said Freddie deserved what he got. He still thought so even when he saw him in court.
However, Herrmann later got a call from Freddie’s father. The older man was in jail for murder and wanted Herrmann to change his mind about Freddie. He had tried to convince Herrmann to forgive Freddie.
That had got to Herrmann. He wondered if Freddie deserved another chance. But Cruz told him not to. Cruz didn't trust Freddie's father because he remembered the other man from the neighborhood. He recalled the time Freddie's father stabbed someone for looking at him funny.
Cruz told Herrmann to report the call. He said it might have been a threat and that the older man might have tried to scare Herrmann from testifying at trial. But Herrmann didn't want to think the same way. He went to the prison to see Freddie’s father. He heard the man's side of the story.
It was a sad story. The other man had been in a gang and believed he had to act tough and never be insulted without striking back. This is what he taught Freddie. Freddie had always believed he couldn't let anyone insult him because it would make him look weak. Herrmann had only been joking when he came up with a silly nickname, but the young man had only done what his father taught him. He was taught to cut someone down.
But Freddie’s father didn’t stop there. He told Herrmann that he'd spoken with Freddie and that the boy would never hurt someone who'd trusted him. Freddie regretted stabbing Herrmann. Herrmann had to decide what to do. Forgiveness was harder, but Herrmann couldn’t stop thinking about it. House 51 got a call to a residential. The couple called 911 because their son was threatening suicide.
The guys broke through the door. They found the son hanging from his ceiling fan. He had been bullied at school and when he found out he couldn’t escape it online, he thought suicide was the better option. Suicide is never the answer. Herrmann and the EMTs had to resuscitate him so he could figure that out on his own. After seeing someone nearly lose their son, Herrmann spent time with his own. Just because!
He chose to forgive Freddie. He asked for a meeting with the judge and changed his testimony. Before, he said Freddie deserved whatever they threw at him. He told the judge he realized he was speaking from a hurt place and that he had forgiven Freddie because it was best for them both.
But back at the station, Chili had worn out sympathy. Dawson and Brett said she was sloppy at work, which led to her second strike with Boden. Boden said that if she messed up again, she'd never work with 51 again and wouldn't find work in the city. Brett and Dawson tried to help Chili. They told her they understood and knew losing a sibling was hard. But they also had to tell her she was self-destructing.
She put patients at risk and alienated her friends. The women tried to be gentle with her, but when that didn't work, they tried a tougher approach. It seemed to be working for a moment.
Chili talked about her sister and explained why they fell out. And it never used to be like that because they were best friends. But not long after, Chili was back at the bar and drinking to oblivion.
But she’s not the only one in trouble. Casey also stepped on a few toes after he accused an alderman of stealing money from a shelter. The same shelter that Lucas Hicks and his mother went to after the tornado.
Casey had become friends with the family and was interested in the shelter they were in. He spoke at an event to raise money for the shelter. But then he heard the shelter was going to close anyway, even though money had been raised. The excuse didn't make sense.
The alderman said it was too expensive to keep the shelter open. It was an abandoned gym with cots. That can’t be too expensive to maintain. Casey confronted the alderman and demanded to know where the money went.
Severide has been involved with the woman from Homeland Security, even though it's supposed to be secret. Alex Ward has been sending him on fact-finding missions. Tonight, she told Severide that she was in Chicago to find the person making homemade napalm.

The Great Ace Attorney
*Kazuma Asogi and Olive Green did not die, meaning a Divination Seance cannot be performed, thus they are not included in this section.
John Wilson - YES
John and Brett were face-to-face when he died. He wouldn’t have seen Brett putting the poison in his drink, but the fact that he was drinking alone with her, and that she literally sat there and watched him die, would most likely be incriminating enough. At the very least, it would’ve proven that the bullet that Ryunosuke supposedly fired wasn’t what killed him.
Thrice-Fired Mason - YES
Again, Mason and McGilded were face-to-face and alone in the carriage cabin when he died. There’s no room for doubt here.
Pop Windibank - MAYBE
Windibank’s Seance would definitely prove that Graydon was in the pawnbroker’s at the time of the murder, but unfortunately, Windibank was shot in the back. If he saw neither Gina or Graydon when the shot was fired, then the argument can still be made that Gina is the one who did the deed.
The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve
*William Shamspeare did not die, meaning a Divination Seance can not be performed, thus he is not included in this section.
Jezaille Brett - NO
Unfortunately, a Divination Seance for Brett would be impossible, since she used a fake name. The only people who knew her real name are Seishiro and Stronghart (and Van Zeiks, though months after her death) as far as I remember and they definitely would not give that shit up.
Odie Asman - YES
Another easy one, the last thing Odie would’ve seen is Courtney coming to do him in after he took his fall.
Tobias Gregson - YES
Once again, Gregson and Seishiro were alone in their ship cabin when Seishiro shot Gregson. There’s no way Sheishiro wouldn’t show up in his Divination Seance.
Genshin Asogi - NO
Genshin died in a dark graveyard, where Stronghart and Seishiro were making sure to stay hidden. The last person he would’ve seen was Enoch Drebber, who ran away before Asogi was shot.
Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth
(Thanks again to my friend Keepay for helping me out with these!)
Buddy Faith - YES
Buddy was face-to-face with Portsman when he was shot, his Divination Seance would leave no room for doubt.
Akbey Hicks - NO
Cammy shoved Akbey from behind while he was taking pictures of the hold, so she probably wouldn’t show up in the seance. The scene of the crime being the cargo hold would be enough to clear Miles, but Teneiro would still be a suspect since she could also access the hold.
Colin Devorae - MAYBE
This is a tough one, since both Lance and Devorae were both in costumes when the shot was fired. And since there was more than one Proto Badger costume, simply seeing the costume wouldn’t be enough to prove that Lance was inside. However, if Lance talked at any point during the struggle, Colin would clearly recognize it as Lance’s voice, meaning Lance would be clearly implicated by the Seance.
It would also need to be uncovered that Devorae was going by a fake name, but this information could be found out by the police.
Mack Rell and Byrne Faraday - YES
Calisto was standing in front of both victims at the time of the shooting/stabbing, so she would be visible in both of their Seances.
Manny Coachen - YES
Coachen managed to stab Alba before he was killed, so Alba would almost definitely be seen in his Seance.
Ka-Shi Nou - PROBABLY YES
When Nou arrived to steal the Primidux statue, Alba was already in the office. Even though Nou was hit in the back of the head, his Seance would’ve shown that he and Alba were the only ones in the office when he died.
Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor’s Path
Ethan Rooke - NO
We don’t know for sure if Rooke saw Knightley shoot him, but considering he was shot in the side, it’s unlikely.
Horace Knightly - YES
Horace and Roland were alone in her office when she attacked him, she would’ve been clearly visible.
Pierre Hoquet - YES
Pierre and Gustavia were face-to-face before Gustavia bludgeoned him, so he would clearly be seen in the Seance.
Pierre was also using a fake name, but Katherine knew his real identity and would likely disclose it if it meant finding his murderer.
Jill Crane - MAYBE
Blaise was wearing a mask with a voice changer when Jill confronted him, so that alone wouldn’t be enough to pin it on him. However, the Seance would show the skull-shaped burn mark of the killer’s chin, a feature that only Sebastian was aware of. Sebastian alone would realize that his father was the one who killed Jill, so it would entirely depend on whether Sebastian would reveal that information.
Jack Cameron - NO
Jack was hit on the back of the head, so he wouldn’t have seen his killer
Di-Jun Huang - NO
The Seance of the Di-Jun Huang who was crushed to death would make the situation pretty clear. He wouldn’t have seen Simon himself, but he would see his hot balloon, which would be decisive evidence by itself.
But, we wouldn’t be able to see this Seance because that Huang was a body double, who’s real name nobody (other than Blaise and Roland, who would keep it hidden no matter what) knows. Trying to perform a Divination on Huang would lead to…
The REAL Di-Jun Huang- YES
Thankfully, the real Di-Jun Huang was face-to-face with his killer, Dogen, before he died, so his case would be solved. While Huang’s Seance would raise a LOT of questions since nobody knew the assassination even happened, his case would still be solved one way or another.
Throughout the whole series, that’s 23 YESes and 16 NOs and 9 that are a little too complicated to know for sure. Thank you for reading, this was pretty fun to make!
How many Ace Attorney cases would be solved immediately if they used the Divination Seance?
For those who don’t know, the Divination Seance is a mechanic introduced in the 6th main Ace Attorney game: Spirit of Justice. The way it works is that a spirit medium communes with the soul of the dead, and makes their final memories visible in the Pool of Souls. All of their senses are displayed, from what they saw to what they heard to what they smelled before they died. In game, the Divination Seance is usually used to Phoenix’s disadvantage (obviously), but what I wanted to know is what would happen if the Divination Seance was used in cases that took place not in the Kingdom of Khura’in. If the court could see what the victim saw seconds before their death, how much would that fuck over the real killer? Let’s go through the death of (almost) every single victim and find out: would this case be solved if they used the Divination Seance? This will be updated with each game every day, unless I forget.
(Thanks to my buddy Keepay for helping me out with this! He did all of the AAI 1 and 2 cases because my memory on those is pretty fuzzy.)
Things to Remember:
Divination Seance is derived from the victim’s memories, meaning if they don’t recognize a person’s voice, they won’t be able to identify it.
Divination Seance only works if the victim’s true name (and less importantly, what they look like) is known.
The victim has to actually be dead for a Seance to be possible.
Ace Attorney 1
Cindy Stone - YES
Frank had already broken into Cindy's home when she walked in, so there’s no way she wouldn’t have seen him before he bludgeoned her. A Divination Seance would clearly show this.
Mia Fey - NO
At first, this looks like the exact same situation as the Cindy Stone case. Mia and Redd White were face-to-face before she died, so he would’ve clearly shown up in the Divination Seance, right?
But then there’s that damn updated autopsy report.
Edgeworth stated that Mia lived for a few minutes after she was hit, and Divination Seances only show the last few seconds of the victim’s life. This means that the Divination Seance wouldn’t have shown the actual bludgeoning, or Redd White. As suspect as that updated autopsy report is, Edgeworth himself said that he never forged evidence, so we have to take him at his word here.
Jack Hammer - YES
Dee and Jack were face-to-face when she pushed him. I don’t think we ever learn the details of their struggle, so maybe it would still be unclear whether or not it was self defense on Vasquez’s part.
Robert Hammond - YES
Again again, Yanni and Hammond saw each other before Yanni shot Hammond in the heart. We don’t get a lot of details about what happened in the shack, but we have no reason to assume this wasn’t the case. I promise these are gonna get more interesting.
Gregory Edgeworth - MAYBE
So in this case, the Divination Seance would show that the defendants (Miles Edgeworth and Yanni Yogi in this case) are innocent, but wouldn’t show who the culprit is, so I’m gonna say at the very least, it’s partially solved. The Seance would reveal that Gregory didn’t die when Miles threw the gun, and that all three of them passed out before the second gunshot was fired. However, we know from Von Karma’s testimony that Gregory was unconscious when he was shot, so he wouldn’t have seen his killer’s face.
But! Miles said that he heard Von Karma scream right after he threw the gun, obviously that means that Gregory heard it too. The question is, would he have recognized it as Von Karma’s voice, and would it have shown up as Von Karma’s voice in the Pool of Souls? To answer that, I point you towards Inga’s Divination Seance. Here he recognizes the voice he’s talking to over the phone as one of his subordinates (after a refining from Rayfa) but even after it’s proven that Datz was the one laughing over the phone, the sound still shows up in the pool as just “Laughter.”
This is why it’s important to remember that the Divination Seance is derived from the victim’s memories. Inga recognized his subordinate's voice (but probably not his name, lol) but he didn’t know what Datz’s voice sounds like, at least not well enough to recognize it. In the same vein, Gregory would absolutely recognize Von Karma’s voice because they just spend the whole day in court together, as well as them meeting during the investigation.
Now what this really all boils down to is if Gregory would recognize Von Karma screaming in particular. Miles didn’t recognize the voice even though he also knew Von Karma, but he was also a stressed and delirious kid when he heard the scream. Gregory’s memories are probably more reliable, and he’s probably heard Von Karma shouting either during the Inherited Turnabout investigation or the trial afterward. But, as much as I wanna say this is a yes, we can’t know for sure.
Bruce Goodman - YES
After that long-winded explanation, we’re back to another easy one. Bruce and Damon were alone in the evidence room when Damon did the deed, so he would clearly show up in the vision, or at the very least, his voice would be heard.
Neil Marshall - NO
This is another Gregory situation, but unfortunately much more unclear. Neil was unconscious when he died so he wouldn’t have seen Gant but at least it would be clear that neither Ema or Darke killed him. Neil had already knocked out Darke when Ema pushed him, and it would’ve been clear that Neil didn’t die from Ema’s shove, but much later. Of course, since Neil was blacked out, the argument could be made that Darke woke up first, and simply stabbed Neil while Neil was unconscious. Even with the Divination Seance, there’s no way to prove that Gant did the deed.

Bill Hicks - Rant in E-Minor (recorded November 1992 - December 1993)
"Boy, I've never seen an issue so divisive. You ever see it, it's like a civil war, isn't it? Even amongst my friends, who are all very intelligent! They are totally divided on abortion! It's unbelievable! Some of my friends, for instance, think these pro-life people are annoying idiots. Other of my friends think these pro-life people are evil fucks. How are we going to come to a consensus? You ought to hear the arguments around my house; "they're annoying, they're idiots, they're evil, they're fucks!" Brothers, sisters, come together! Can't we once just join hands and think of them as evil annoying idiot fucks?
I beseech you, but that's me, Libra Rising, the scales! And, strangely enough, Shiva, The Destroyer (laughs). Who would have thunk it?
"We're pro-life." "Ooh, you look it! You look like you're filled with life." All the little kids: "Please don't adopt me, please don't adopt me, please don't adopt me!" "We're your new Christian pro-life parents!" "Oh, where's the tower, where's the gun? Where's the tower, where's the gun? I was adopted by pro-life Christians when I was a kid (gun noises). Does my penis make me a bad boy? That's what they told me (gun noises)!"
Please, give me the Satan-worshipping family down the block. The ones who have the good albums. Suddenly I'm adopted by the Flanders, you know? "Hi Bill, isn't it another beautiful God-created morning?" (weird noise). "We're pro-life." It's like, well what does that make me? You know what I mean? You're so pro-life! You're so pro-life, do me a fucking favor. Don't block med clinics, okay? Lock arms, and block cemeteries. Let's see how fucking committed you are to this premise. "She can't come in." "She's ninety-six, she was hit by a bus!" "There's options!" "What, do we got to have her stuffed? What are you talking about, she's dead!" "We're pro-life, get her out of that casket! Get her out! She's not going, we're pro-life people. There'll be no death on this planet."
Pro-life... and I always say, see, my theory, here's my actual theory beyond, uh, the huge, hilarious jokes I have. Here's my real theory, though: if you're so pro-life and you're so pro-child, then adopt one that's already here that's very unwanted and very alone and needs someone to take care of it to get it out of a horrible situation, okay? People say, "well why don't you do that?" And I say because I hate fucking kids and couldn't care less. Couldn't give a fuck. Don't care at all about abortion. It's your choice. Case closed, the end, bottom line; and by the way, a three-month old kid in your belly is not a fucking human being, okay? It's a bunch of little congregate of cells. You're not a human until you're in my phonebook (laughs).
There, my hat is now in the political ring."

Sign that winter is coming to an end - pitchers and catchers are reporting this week to Tampa for the New York Yankees. Position players are not far behind.
That means my favorite photos start showing up - how much taller is Aaron Judge than his teammates.
