I was one of those kids that could point to a Disney classic at 4ish year years old as the moment I was undone and wanted to be an animator when I grew up. My first crack at animation was 20 years ago. As the only female in nearly every class and just feeling too small in such a big field, I changed my major to studio art with an emphasis in drawing and painting. I worked as a caricature artist for two years and finally decided that a desk job with an insurance broker was the way to go because financial stability after a couple years of not having that is really enticing. I always hoped "someday" I would make my way back to animation, but as years turned into 10, I stopped thinking about it as much. I started freelance writing and blogging from home. I have a life that I am not sad about. I have a happy life, a good job (albeit not at all creative in the ways that make me happy), and perfectly sweet family. It is fine. This guy built me a drawing horse and a custom sketchbook for Christmas last year. "Do your thing. I want you to do what makes you happy." Me even considering pursuing something that I really should have done 15+ years ago is maybe crazy, but he is all "why not?" So anyway. Here we are. I've learned photoshop, started painting and drawing again. Who knows? It is nice to have his support. Hashtag blessed and all that. Also, anyone know of a studio who wants to hire a 39 year old with a big resume gap? Please form an orderly line. I even had a brand new website with the beginnings of a portfolio linked above. Ready or not, here I come..... Honestly, I wish I had 6 more months for this. If you need me, I will be sitting in the back row learning all the things.
