can't find my post so i'm remaking it. i really think there's a lot of meaning behind the early social link with yukari where she asks kotone what her favorite flower is. the options are gerberas, roses, sunflowers, and tulips. all of these flowers are symbolic of love; gerberas mean loyal love, roses are THE symbol of love, and sunflowers can mean devotion, sometimes interpreted as love. All these answers will give you 3 points toward your relationship with her. However, tulips will only give 2.

Because they represent *perfect* love.

and that's what gets me. yukari wants love, devotion, loyalty, but she KNOWS kotone isn't perfect; she's not either. no one is, and it makes sense why this is the only choice that she doesn't like. persona 3 (and the series in general) is about trying to grow and change as a person, about bettering yourself even if its hard, even if you're in the most dire of circumstances, and i think yukari is the best example of these themes. and for kotone to say she wants perfection? that she wants something that needs no work or improvement? of course it rubs her the wrong way.

but the others, especially gerberas? they symbolize yukaham to me. no matter what happens, no matter how the group's loyalty to each other and their mission wavers, yukari and kotone never ever give up on each other. even when yukari wonders if making friends and trusting people is worth the effort, she still trusts kotone to lead SEES and continues to confide in her even when she feels like giving up.

and looking at post-canon/p4au potential, it lets kotone confide in yukari too, once the pressure of saving the world is off her shoulders and she's out of high school. her old mask doesn't need to be there anymore; she finally can break out of her shell. and who better to help her do that than the girl who she gave the strength she needed to reconnect with her mother and move on from the loss of their blue haired companion? yukari can return the favor and its so romantic to me

uhh... can i say yu narukami's moveset in p4au? idk i just cannot get into him and it's genuinely sad to me because he's my favourite guy but his gameplay makes me so mad. like

i... am well aware that i am often The Overhyper In Chief but even by my standards i think sometimes that people may be a little untruthful about how good p5r third semester actually is, and also just akechi in general. i don't even dislike the guy i just feel like people have put a lot of weight on him and i don't really... get it. like it's cool. 3rd semester is probably my favourite overall part of p5. maybe i just don't like p5 the way i used to. but i still think if you like akechi that much you should play other persona games and see if you feel that same connection there because there's quite a few guys who preceded him and i honestly like them better. this isn't even about sho, honest! this is about ken.

22. your favourite part of canon that everyone else ignores

this is the part where i do the ones ive already done for gear for other things! so obviously i have a lot of these. but i truly do believe that everyone should go like. watch a couple of the p4a story modes, then watch labrys', then go watch the endings then go read the ultimax manga or something (actually please PLEASE read the manga it's so good it's like the most complete package of the ultimax stories my only gripe is that it doesn't really give labrys much spotlight because it follows the p4 path). it's so fucking good i won't even force you to play a fighting game if you don't want to just. actually like experience the story labrys is from and draw some actually relevant art of her pulling from that new understanding! I'm STARVING! it's all just her standing somewhere in a generally cheery way i can't TAKE IT ANYMORE!!! GET TO KNOW HER! SHE IS MORE THAN A PRETTY FACE!!!

... i wouldn't say SHIP, because i tend to view it as totally one-sided and a pipe dream in the story as well as out, but i find hazama/ragna really funny now as like a crush that hazama tries to bring up to him once, chickens out on, tells him something else, and is met with a "oh thank god. i thought you were gonna confess your love to me or something." and that's just the breaking point, hazama kills that part of himself immediately and never brings it up again because he's too embarrassed

i... think i also answered this one someplace? well whatever. i get being annoyed that they lean on the protein joke a lot for akihiko, but can you guys give the rest of his characterisation in that game a fucking chance!!! so fucking SICK of people going "wah wah akihiko got worse again after making that promise when shinji died" like wow maybe recovery isn't linear! maybe i think it kind of rocks that he wasn't just fixed and better! he lost yet another person and his response was to throw himself into anything he could to avoid thinking about it, and i think this makes sense for him and is a pretty decent way to handle the fact that he... sort of needs to have a storyline ingame? which needs conflict? anyway everyone leave me and postcanon akihiko alone in a room for a while. you are all scaring him.

rambles about some of my choices under the cut:

First of all, I have to admit that I haven't played any version of P1 and Eternal Punishment, because didn't have time to play actual games and gameplay of Innocent Sin kinda discouraged me to do so (what the last year of the high school does to a mf), but I wanted to know all the mainline Persona lore so bad, so in the end I've watched gameplay on yt... Aaand read MI:P manga. #fakefandetected

Honestly, I am a little bit tired of emulating, so I'm manifesting remasters Midori leaked asap 🫠

Least favorite mainline game: well, it was an equal fight between P5 and IS, but in the end the first one was saved by my sentiment to it (P5 was my first Persona game). It's not that I dislike either of them, they just didn't captivate me as much as the others and their respective casts are my least favorite.

Favorite credits song: uh oh, when it comes to mainline games my top3 credits songs are Memories of You, Never More & Brand New Days.

Favorite spin-off/etc song: hoo boy... Dance! from P4D is one of my comfort songs for sure and I love both Our Moment & Moonlight Serpendity from P3D, but NOW I KNOW from Arena is something else. 🥹 Break Out Of... (P4AU) is also one of my Persona faves, Deep Mentality & Backside Of The TV remixes from dancing games are cool too. And since it's category "spin-off/etc" lemme drop More Than One Heart & Fate Is In Our Hands from P3 movies and Beauty of Destiny from P4 anime. Also honorable mention for Breakin' Through & Found Me from Trinity Soul. Yeah, I know... and that's why I didn't write anything about favorite song overall xD I'm still surprised I was able to pick anything in other categories lol

Favorite opening movie: it was probably about mainline games, but P3D cinematic is too beautiful not to mention it. 🥺

Favorite ending: I picked FES, because as much as P3 ending is the most meaningful for me I think it's incomplete without The Answer. If there's no one to defend it I'm probably no longer in this world...

I got random headcannons in my head for persona characters and imma spill em

You know those gag glasses in persona 4 that everyone got? Usually the IT has it stay at home or put somewhere but Chie keeps it on her person. Why may you ask? Well Yukiko can often burn out when handling inn duties or having to deal with guys trying to hit on her and ask her out and stuff. So often enough when Yukiko isn’t feeling all that great, she goes to Chie to just take a break from it all. Chie will hang out and try to cheer her up the best she can. But when nothing is working, she puts on those gag glasses and has Yukiko look over. Those glasses never fail to make her laugh. She laughs so much that she just forgets what got her upset in the first place and it makes Chie happy she’s happy. It’s just basically “Oh my girlfriend is super sad right now, gotta bust out the emergency funny glasses.”

Teddie likes wearing any clothes. Suits? Dresses? He’ll wear em all. He just likes to wear clothing that he finds real pretty or good looking. It kinda to the point where he joins the girls on clothes shopping. At first, everyone in IT was confused about this for Teddie but they all got used to it to the point they helped him out on it. Oh Yukiko asks him for help but he wants to wear the kimono instead cause how pretty it is? Sure, she’ll help him out and he gets to help out being all pretty. Rise and Naoto are the main people that help him get pretty clothes he wants. Rise knows the colors while Naoto got an image for Teddie in clothes. You know that joke meme about why someone is on the table and it’s because they wanna be tall? Well with Teddie, it’s similar. Stranger: Why is he wearing a dress? Yosuke: He likes to be pretty.

Labrys is a neat character so she needs a neat hobby. A hobby she would be doing is growing plants. This is mainly because of that p4au ending for Aigis. The whole lab becoming greenhouse is great and I’m mad it didn’t show Labrys seeing it. You bet she would have been amazed and flat out sob at the sight of 024’s weapon in the middle. Of course her and Aigis visit that place sometimes, call it their special place where Labrys tells Aigis about 024 and how great she is. After seeing the lab become a greenhouse, she gained the desire to grow plants. She does it out of memory for 024. She’s able to just get seeds from the greenhouse and bring it back to grow in pots and planters at home. It takes a few tries and a few dead plants, but she finally grows a healthy plant and she’s ecstatic. She shows off the plant to Aigis, Mitsuru, and the rest of Shadow ops and they’re all happy for her. She does eventually get Aigis on it so now both of em grow plants together. Both of their rooms now turned into little greenhouses themselves. It’s really pretty to see.

To Be A Sun

This is me ranting about the symbolism of the Sun Arcana characters in Persona. Ok, thanks.

As of Persona 5, our Sun characters have been Tatsuya Suou, Akinari Kamiki, Yumi Ozawa, Ayane Matsunaga, Sho Minazuki and Toranosuke Yoshida. Unlike the Justice characters, the Suns seem to be completely different characters with no similarities. At least, at first glance.

The themes of this rant will be the following:

1. Loyalty

2. Solar Eclipse

3. Center of the Solar System

4. Supernova

5. So...

Loyalty

I will begin with a trait that the Suns have in common: Loyalty; although they don't have the same brand. Whether its loyalty for a certain person or their personal ideals, the Suns will stick by them to the end of times.

Coincidentally, this also means that it will be extremely difficult to change their mind about the object of their loyalty. Stubborness is a side effect of this.

Let's review.

Tatsuya's loyalty lies with his friends, especially Maya and Jun. The latter tried to kill him and Tatsuya forgave him the same day. Not to mention that Tatsuya stubbornly clinged at the memory of his friends even though it meant the possible destruction of Earth.

Though we meet Akinari near the end of his life, we get a glimpse of his loyalty to the protagonist in the way he was always waiting for him each Sunday afternoon and how he strived to say goodbye to the protag even after his death.

Yumi's loyalty is towards her mother, getting angry at her father on her behalf and forsaking her role in the school play to help her.

Ayane is an example of the other type of loyalty; the one dedicated to their ideals and beliefs. Even though she develops it late in her Social Link, she learns to stick by what she wants for herself.

Meanwhile, Sho and Minazuki are devoted to one another. The entire plot of P4AU is them trying to be alone together.

Old Man Tora shows the two types of loyalty. The first one towards his firm ideals and the other one towards the people he means to serve. This is what makes him the only politician I believe in.

A Sun Arcana is one of the best friends you could ever get. The ride or die type of friend. The problem with this is that, in their effort to stick by their object of loyalty, they forget to take care of themselves. It would be extremely dangerous for them to align their loyalty with a toxic person or dangerous belief. More on this later.

The Suns need to find their inner source of happiness so they can properly shine. Something no outside force can take away. And talking about external threats...

Solar Eclipse

The Suns already start with a distinct shine of their own. Something they were born with. However, when we met them there is always one external influence that blocks their sunlight.

And so, we have the Solar Eclipse effect, where a character from the Sun Arcana feels inadequate due to factors outside their control, not realizing they are perfect the way they are.

It's common for a Sun to have a certain individual related to those problems who serves as their blocker.

Whether it's some dimensional game you're a piece of (Nyarlathotep and Philemon), your parents' dispute (Yumi's father), a lost opportunity to show your worth (Original Trombone Player), experiments made on you (Ikutsuki) or a scandal you were wrongly accused of (Kuromoto).

The only one without a certain person would be Akinari, but to be fair it's hard to blame someone else for a genetic terminal illness. Ironically, his last days were spent talking with someone who had a piece of Death inside him. Who knows. Maybe if Akinari had known that Minato was related to Death itself...

Especially if we consider that almost all of the Suns had an amiable relationship with their blocker at one point or another.

Philemon was Tatsuya's guide through his journey.

Yumi felt gratitude towards her father for bringing her to the world.

Ayane did return the trombone solo to the original player.

Ikutsuki was the closest thing Sho had to a father figure.

Kuromoto was Yoshida's old mentor.

Once that blocker moved on with their fate, the Suns started to shine again. And what to do now that the heavens are their own again?

Center of the Solar System

The most basic fact about the Sun (besides the fact that it's hot) it's that it is the center of the Solar System. Every other planet rotates around them. The Sun stays firm, with a shinning light for the rest of the system.

In the same way as that, the Sun Arcana characters have the potential of becoming leaders and the protagonists of their own stories, setting an example for the rest of their acquaintances.

Tatsuya is the most obvious example. He is the main protagonist of his own game. Nothing to say that isn't already known.

Akinari writes a storybook that would become the inspiration of a new generation of children, if Nanako's love for it is anything to go by.

The whole point of theatre is to lead the audience through a story and create emotions in them through a character. Something Yumi excels at.

Ayane's Social Link is about being more selfish and grasping the opportunities presented to her.

Yoshida is the most literal example, being a politician and all.

Sho still has to find that *something* that will end up making him an example to others but he is on the way.

A fully developed Sun will be able to be a charismatic leader, who earns the loyalty of their team through kindness and generosity. Sunlight is meant to help others see the world around them, in the same way Suns will help others see their potential and own inspiration. You just can't take your eyes off them since you literally gravitate towards them.

This is the main point that separates a Sun from a Star. Those with the Star Arcana need to learn they can shine brightly for themselves, while the Suns learn that they can shine for others as well. They all start with low self-esteem, but their pride will keep developing as time goes on.

Suns have a natural talent for initiative. Through their stories we helped them realize their own potential but now its up to them to do the rest.

Supernova

As we all know, fire needs fuel to burn, but what happens when you allow your inner fire to burn you from the inside out and leave nothing behind?

You get the case of King Leo, the Reverse Sun.

So far we have only one Reverse Sun character but we can determine a lot from him. Basically, Reverse Arcanas are the "corrupt" version of their original personalities, so what happens when a Sun becomes corrupted? Well...

See, King Leo or Sudou fits all the criteria that defines a Sun.

He is extremely loyal to both Kashihara and Joker. However, this loyalty only brought him misery when both abandoned him. Sudou poured so much in them that when they disappeared, he had nothing left.

Sudou thought his Solar Eclipse was caused by Tatsuya and Maya, when in reality it came to be thanks to Nyarlathotep and his father. A life of hallucinations and misery caused by these two.

Sudou's position as an executive in the Masked Circle shows his leadership aptitude and potential to become the center of his own system.

Sudou spent so much time eclipsed that, in his desire to shine as bright as he could to break free, he ended up burning everything in his path. He literally exploded in a fiery rage and collapsed.

At that point it became mercy for Tatsuya to kill him.

His is a sad case, especially when comparing him to the other Suns and realizing his lost potential.

A similar case outside of Persona where the "Inner Fire Burns All" applies would be Azula from Avatar. Now that I think about it, she would make a good Reverse Sun Arcana... hmm.

So...

The Sun Arcana is such an interesting card. By all accounts, it symbolizes happiness and joy. A common mistake is to think these are given. No, a true Sun Arcana *fights* to achieve that happy ending. Once they reach it, their victory will be the sweetest of all.

Celestial Arcanas in general have the tendency to be a guiding light to everyone else (although some of them do it unintentionally).

There is also the matter of the writing parallels between the Suns and their Moon counterparts, but that is a theme for another time.

And now you'll ask me: "Kationella, what was the point of this analysis?"

Well, it all comes down to one question that has been plaguing me for days:

Would it be ironic for Suns to wear sunglasses?

Naoto: roasts people who hate Junes but still buy everything there and are either half-assing their part-time work or being assholes to the workers there & calls them hypocrites with no backbone to do what they claim to do. Stands by Junes' existence in Inaba and occasionally helps Yosuke as the backup need in holiday seasons

Also Naoto: chooses to buy everything she can from other stores than Junes and only uses its services when it's the last resort and makes her stance on Junes brand coffee and tea quality clear (aka that she thinks they're not good) & is picky on what dishes she buys there.

Bonus for the timing after P4AU (aka the Two-Day Battle Royale and the mental scars that caused her to have):

She also considers working there temporarily when she's taking a break from her career as a detective after P4AU happened to earn some money to pay rent & eat after moving out from the Manor and understands the pain after being there for two weeks.

I played P3 FES first, then after beating it, I wanted to read the manga as soon as I found out about it. I also think it was the fact he dies and seeing how his friends grew up without him, it made me really want to see what it would be like if he survived, I guess I felt his death at the end of the game was just a real shame, I suppose I thought he would have been a great character to bring back in future Persona games, I understand the reason for his death and I have nothing against it. It was just that thought I had of “Man Minato could have been so much more if he survived” that drove me to pick him up )

WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION GOING?   —  (Well, I’ve been in the Persona fandom for 5 years now. Before when I came back, I wasn’t getting many rp’s. But ever since I came back and found an active Fuuka(MinaFuu is a ship I rarely got to rp) so that started it back up, and then it was seeing all these familiar faces(Or blogs in this case xD) come back, my motivation has been through the roof. So I guess the revival of the fandom and the wonderful people of the Persona community has fueled my fire and it keeps on burning for more!)

DO YOU THINK YOU GIVE YOUR CHARACTER JUSTICE?   YES / NO / I SINCERELY HOPE I DO? (I think so, I’ve Rp’d him for 5 years now, I’d like to think I know him inside and out?)

DO YOU FREQUENTLY WRITE HEADCANONS?   YES / NO / SORT OF? (When the motivation or idea’s are there then yeah I totally do)

DO YOU SOMETIMES WRITE DRABBLES?   YES / NO (I definitely do, not as many as I’d like to tho, but when the idea comes to mind that you just can’t express in an rp with someone else, then its best in drabble form.)

DO YOU THINK A LOT ABOUT YOUR MUSE DURING THE DAY?   YES / NO           (I’m a very musical person myself just like Minato so every time I jam I do and I’m always jammin ;3)

ARE YOU CONFIDENT IN YOUR PORTRAYAL?   YES / NO / SORT OF?

ARE YOU CONFIDENT IN YOUR WRITING?   YES / NO / A LITTLE BIT. (In the beginning I wasn’t, but I kept at it and eventually I built up enough confidence to really make him soar. The thing with Minato is since Persona protags are silent and the game lets you make up his personality. But since I incorporate him more from the Manga I try to really channel that version of him. I’ve had a few people tell me they like my portrayal. So I must be doing something right?)

ARE YOU A SENSITIVE PERSON?   YES / NO. / SORTA. (tbh I’m more sensitive when it comes to my friends or family. Most times I’m pretty level headed when it comes to myself, nowadyas anyway.)

DO YOU ACCEPT CRITICISM WELL ABOUT YOUR PORTRAYAL?   —  (For the most part yes and I don’t usually let any negativity get to me.  But if someone doesn’t like my portrayal for some reason then you’re welcome to unfollow me. Maybe I’m not the Minato for you then?)

DO YOU LIKE QUESTIONS, WHICH HELP YOU TO EXPLORE YOUR CHARACTER?   — (DEF I love any questions I get so please def ask me stuff if you are curious.)

IF SOMEONE DISAGREES TO A HEADCANON OF YOURS, DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY? — (Yes, just so I can get a better idea of the flaws it may have, then I can better construct it if I see it as a valid reason for possibly not working. If I don’t see any problem with it then it’s still staying )

IF SOMEONE DISAGREES WITH YOUR PORTRAYAL, HOW WOULD YOU TAKE IT?   —  (If my portrayal doesn’t fit your idea of Minato then perhaps I’m not the Minato for you and the unfollow button is always there. No harm done really. )

IF SOMEONE REALLY HATES YOUR CHARACTER, HOW DO YOU TAKE IT? — (Hey man, just don’t try and kill my vibe by cutting down my muse right in front of me and we’re good. Of course there is always the unfollow button. )
