After escaping the gold saucer i have beaten brayflox longstop (pretty!), titan (not pretty!) and stone vigil in one day 👍 garuda's next. I think. That was also the first time i've seen the "new" stone vigil.
ramble:
The imposter inquistor arc in coerthas was pretty ok. I have my usual beef with the execution but the premise was interesting.
I'm trying really hard to get into the story and lore this time around. After 10 years lmfao 😭 It's just. I don't know how to say this without sounding really mean which is absolutely not my intention bc i know many people love this game. But something about the dialogues puts me into an instant Resident Sleeper mode. I'm having the worst time paying attention to what anyone is saying. I know there's the infamous "arr is the worst part it'll get better" but ive SEEN story bits of later expacs and they do the exact same to me. Something about the way the story is presented isn't compatible with my brain. Which isn't meant to be judgement about the quality of the story told at all.
BUT i'm trying this time and i'm hoping to get a bit more connected to some of the characters and lore. I've never really fleshed my player character out at all in the past but seeing that I have two trial account characters now I'm thinking about how they could maybe go through the events as joint protagonists. With a few basic tropy personality traits to start and we'll see if something develops from there. They strike me as a fun duo.
Also looking forward for the lvl 50 dungeon so I can finally get tomestones to buy a mini dodo 😭 The curse of no marketboard access. And the curse of nothing unlocks accountwide.
Thanks for coming to the messy thoughts ramble.

A Ninja's Guide to Eorzea, Part 3: Level 50 dungeons
part 1 | part 2
As we maintain our meander midst the microcosm of much-maligned mystic masking, we must meet the meat of the main game- the level 50 dungeons. coming into this, I assumed that since this was the endgame for quite a while, sneaking through enemies wouldn't fly here. while that is true for some dungeons, others were pleasantly perceptive to our plight.
that being said there are a lot of these things to get through, so forgive me for the lightning round.
DNF -Castrum Meridianum, the Praetorium, and the Lost City of Amdapor
the first two I'm simply not doing because I'm not sitting through an hour of cutscenes to double-check my assumption. they're almost certainly Ds though, the former practically forces you to fight every pull separately, the latter's a glorified boss rush. Amdapor, on the other hand was annoying. while I'm certain it will get a higher rating later, right now I simply can't kill the first boss with my ninja. I've gotten it to 1% multiple times too, it's very frustrating! I'll come back to that one after another level.
F -Amdapor Keep
everything and its mother can see through Hide here, and they can do it with 360 degree vision- that means it's actually harder to sneak past certain enemies with Hide than without it!
D- -Pharos Sirius
it's no worse than any other Ds, but I'm giving it its own rating bc it feels like you should be able to sneak in certain areas if only random crap being thrown at you didn't get in the way. very annoying dungeon. at least you can sneak between the third and fourth bosses.
D -Brayflox's Longstop, Halatali (Hard), Tam-Tara Deepcroft (Hard), Stone Keep (Hard)
nothing special about any of these, you just can't sneak worth a darn in 'em.
C- -Haukke Manor
it's mostly unsneakable, but there are a few sections you can wiggle your way through. wiping the floor with Halicarnassus is very cathartic after all the trouble it gave me in my zodiac book runs though.
B -Hullbreaker Isle
despite almost every objective involving fighting random enemies, you can pretty easily sneak past everything you aren't picking a fight with. again, definitely more rogue than ninja, but fun nonetheless.
B -Copperbell Mines (Hard)
I just had to give this dungeon its own section because *chefs kiss* what a glowup from the original. the spriggans throwing fire at you can't be avoided, but surprisingly the giant ambush can be if you break through the rock fast enough. I'm sure I'm inflating the score here purely based on how rough the original dungeon was, but it just felt good to get through this time around.
It actually took so long to get this part out I've finished the zodiac daggers and started working on the Anima relic, so I'll cover the level 50 dungeons needed for that (and the start of the HW dungeons) in part 4!

I saw this going around on Twitter, and I thought it would be SO much fun to do! I actually started playing FFXIV last January, so it was literally my first year of gpose! And MAN I learned so much!
(Full versions and fun facts about the pictures under the cut!)
January: One of my first ever Gpose pictures! I really did not understand what I was doing... it took me FOREVER to learn you could center the camera, and I definitely didn't know about filters yet (in game or otherwise). My friends and I had just founded our free company and the Halloween event was going on so... we had to go make clowns of ourselves. :o)
February: This was one of the first pictures I was really REALLY proud of! We didn't know explorer's mode was a thing (...actually, I'm not sure if you can explorer's mode Brayflox Longstop anyway), so my partner and I unsynched the dungeon so we could take pictures by the waterfall! I learned how to angle shots at this point and I... definitely overused it lol.
March: I think it was around this time that I started playing with lighting more. I remember reading a guide that talked about using lighting to enhance the environment (like, using a lightsource a similar color to the water) which I think I used here. I remember being REALLY obsessed with this picture for forever! (ALSO... this is still Kaliyah's swimsuit glam, lol.)
April: Kaliyah's Easter glam! I think I took this one while waiting for a wedding to start. I really love how pretty the chapel area of this game is! I LOVE how colorful this picture is (I was, and very much still am, obsessed with high saturation in images lol). Bright 4 was my favorite in-game filter for a VERY long time.
May: Talk about an image that went out of my comfort zone! I remember running Dusk Vigil for the first time (we were unsynched) and just having my breath taken away by the lighting in this room. I used one of the lower saturation in-game filters, not entirely sure which one... I just really like how cold and spooky this picture feels!
June: This is, legitimately, still one of my favorite pictures I've ever taken! And the best part is: this picture is entirely vanilla -- no mods, custom poses, or even Anamnesis to change the time! I just caught the perfect sunset moment in Kugane to show off my new ninja glam.
July: The month where EVERYTHING changed! XD I discovered GShade and taught myself how to use Anamnesis for custom poses. And of COURSE the first thing I had to do was make me and my partner's character's smooch (or, well... embrace. I wouldn't be confident enough at posing to do smooches for a little while lol. Posing is hard at first!).
August: *disgusting sobbing* I love the Flower Menagerie so much!! And I really wanted to do a picture of Kaliyah and Alexia laying in a flower field. I love how they're so pale in contrast to the flowers, and I wish I could say it was an intentional choice but... nah. Happy accident. ^^
September: I surprisingly didn't do a lot of Gpose in September! I think I was really busy that month or something. But one of my favorite pictures to come out of it was this shot I did for Kaliyah's updated ninja glam (and hair cut!). I wanted to try to make something really graphical and color pop-y... not sure how well I pulled it off, though!
October: ...on the other hand, October was a month FULL of gpose! I decided to do the Glamtober challenge and I had SO much fun and learned so much in the month I did it. This prompt, Lightwarden, is my favorite one by far. I really want to do another month long challenge like Glamtober in the future!
November: November was a really hard month to pick my favorite shot from, since I had a lot of really good ones that month (at some point, I'll have to share some), but I do really like this one from an impromptu shoot I did in The Grand Cosmos. Any time there's an area with a light purple color theme, I'm legally obligated to pose Lavender there. XD
December: Call it a recency bias, but I really like the last picture of the year I did! Not only was it fun to style Lavender in a glam outfit, but I had a lot of fun figuring out the trick with the firework (that is, the Lavender at the front of the screen is a carbuncle, and the real Lavender shot off the firework at the back of the screen lol). I'd like to try to do more shots with weird, complicated set ups in the future! They're neat!
And that's all my favorite pictures for the year!! I love seeing how much my style has grown and changed and I look forward to another year of gpose in the future! :D

MiqoMarch Day 2: Family
Featuring a little drabble on Zaide's thoughts during her and Alphinaud's mission in Eulmore
So this was Eulmore. If Zaide were honest, it brought to mind a Limsa Lominsa wrapped in Radz-at-Han's vibrant multitude of colors, to say nothing of the floral scents that filled the air. Or perhaps that was just the perfume she wore talking. No, wait, she could also pick up the smell of the sea. Regardless, the overall effect was rather nice. City of Final Pleasures, indeed.
The gold was a bit much, though.
As she glanced around the Canopy, squinting beneath her tinted lenses against the everpresent Light, Zaide's Echo zinged when she glanced at a Mystel couple seated in what seemed like a tavern—though it was certainly fancier than any tavern she had been in. Sharing a look with Alphinaud, she took the lead, though with every step she took, a feeling of dread grew deeper and deeper.
Something was very, very wrong here. She could practically smell it.
Still, without a way to determine what, exactly, was causing this dread, there was no point in worrying too much about it. And so, Zaide pushed the feeling down and focused on their new "benefactors." They didn't seem to be threats, and their fine clothes and jewelry, paired with their softer bodies, meant they likely weren't used to hard labor. For now, she would relax.
As he often did in this sort of situation, Alphinaud took on speaking with the Chais (with an unusual level of drama in his voice—where had he picked that up?). Approval was soon given, though the comment from Chai-Nuzz had Alphinaud tensing ever so slightly beside her. When it came time to name themselves, he shared his own with a bow, then gestured to Zaide with a flourish. "And this... is my assistant."
Zaide bowed as well, sharing her own name in a soft tone.
Lord Chai, however, was not as easily placated as his wife, and questioned Alphinaud's claim, noting his youth and the fact that, while family members were often brought along, "assistants" like Zaide were not. Yet Alphinaud remained calm and confident, and replied, "We are family in all but name, my lord. Though we share no blood, we have stood by each other through life's many challenges, resolved to prevail together—or not at all."
Though he continued to speak, weaving a tale to fit their new roles as artist and assistant, Zaide listened with only half a furry ear. Instead, she chose to deal with the feelings of warmth that had bloomed in her chest at his words. Unlike the rest of what he was saying, that part, at least, had been the truth. The full truth, anyway—though there was some at the core of his efforts to gain permission for her to explore Eulmore, it was coated in a little bit of lie to help it go down.
Dulia-Chai was easy enough to win over to the idea, and with Chai-Nuzz all but wrapped around her finger like one of her rings, the matter was quickly settled.
With the Chais placated and permission gained, Alphinaud gestured for her to lean in. In soft tones, he explained the plan. While he kept up the charade and distracted their new patrons, Zaide was to investigate Eulmore, starting on this same level and working her way down. Once done, she would return and share what she discovered with him. A simple enough task—certainly easier than some of the things Zaide had been made to do.
Even now, memories of her trek through Brayflox's Longstop—in search of cheese, of all things—haunted the back of her mind.
Fortunately for her sanity, Alphinaud cleared his throat and brought her attention back from those dark times, gesturing to their surroundings as he continued talking.
"...I shall remain behind and set up my painting paraphernalia. Very carefully and deliberately. It could take some time..." he said with a wink.
She folded her arms and nodded, agreeing in her usual murmur that such was often the case. Zaide turned to leave, paused, turned back to him. Alphinaud tilted his head ever so slightly, brow furrowed. Rather than answer his silent question, she grinned and ruffled his hair, earning half-hearted protestations in the process. With a satisfied nod, Zaide released him. Only then did she head off towards the markets, following the twinge of her Echo to someone who could potentially help her.
Away from the Chais, Zaide was free to think over Alphinaud's words.
Family, hm?
Yes, that seemed right. Alphinaud and Alisaie... they were family. Somewhere along the way, in the midst of their many adventures together, they had become as important to Zaide as her mentor and... mother.
Zaide's casual walk slowed to a crawl, halted in place. Her ears pressed back against her skull, and her tail puffed up. Without thinking, she clutched at her flank. More than ever, she felt the lack of the medallion that once rested there. Left behind, like the name she had given up in order to become an adventurer.
"We do not travel, Zaide. It is not our way. Not the way of this family. Surely you understand this?"
She shook her head and clenched her jaw. She had made her choice, and so had her mother. Now she would live with it.
Zaide took a deep breath, then let it out slowly. Then, her gaze focused only on the path before her, she set forth in search of the secrets hidden by Eulmore's gilded surface. Perhaps she should start with attuning to the aetheryte here...
#ffxiv#miqomarch#shadowbringers#oc: zaide#so technically my wol can talk#but in order to fit with the general vibe of ffxiv i have it so that#instead of explicitly saying most lines (except those from actual dialogue options#i work what zaide says into the narration#she prefers gestures and body language anyways#and tbh it's a fun exercise in writing to do something like that

The other day I was leveling up Monk I got into Brayflox's Longstop and I realized we had a new tank. Half way through the second boss I realized they looked to spin A LOT. I asked them to not spin the boss since it makes it harder for me and though they didn't respond. I thought they understood. We get to the last boss and he proceeds to spin the entire time. The only time he stopped was when the boss's back was in the poison puddle. To quote the other DPS, "Man, they must really hate the Monk"
I mean, I like the phrase “Spin to win” but I mean it was just spamming “Total Eclipse” not to actually spin the boss.
But even though Brayflox Longstop isn’t really a hard dungeon if you know what you’re doing, I always have a fear in the back of my mind that I’m gonna mess it up if I tank it just because waaaaaaaaaaay back in 2013 when ARR first came out I wanted to try my hand at tanking -- let’s just say I didn’t have a friendly party and it made me terrified to try tanking again in 2019.
Why did they make Paladins wait til level 40 to get Shield Oath anyway? I remember struggling to keep enmity on me but I probably just didn’t know how to tank back then, honestly.

How I got from each one, its grindy, its repeative but I was also somewhat on top of it.
Part 1: DoW/DoM
Level 1 - 53: I leveled this up by finishing the entire MSQ and while running it I unlocked Squadrons. Which are like Trusts but if loaded out correctly are faster. Check out your Grand Company ranks and get to Rank Second (Flame/Serpent/Storm) Lieutenant. Then train them up their stats twice, then send them out to missions this will take a series of days so just do it and have it running in the background like Ventures. Then pick up the "Brand New Sets" by running the Novice Hall as a Tank, a Physical, and a Magical DPS to get three sets. This will also give you a Brand New Ring. Brand New Ring + Menphina's Earring or next expansions pre-order Exp Bonus will make getting from 15 - 30 super easy in just a few runs. This will also allow you to grind out some levels on your Squadron and slowly level their basic Masteries and unlock new ones. Once you have the ability to change their job set ups change both DPS to Arcanist, Healer will always be Conjurer and Tank can be either Marauder or Gladiator don't really matter. So long as the DPS are Arcanists you should be good. When you're able to set the DPS Mastery to Offensive, Tank to Independent, and Conjurer to Balanced. The ones you really want is for Offensive to get to 5. I say this because unlike Trusts, Squadron NPCs will AoE down packs of mobs. And arcanists are pretty much king of AoE in the Squadrons. Once they get to Offensive (Mastery: 5). The runs will start getting quicker, but you gotta put in the time to get them to that point. I suggest leveling each Job from level 1 - 15 by just doing Hunts Log, Guildhests and then doing a couple early game trusts to push them to Level 20, where they'll be able to begin running Squadron Command Missions. Then it is simply a matter of grinding out exp to 50 for each job and sticking with it. Brayflox's Longstop is the biggest hurdle cause it stretches from level 32 - 41 and the third boss doesn't give EXP. Still its WAY faster than Trusts. So grind, grind, grind until 50. Once 50 on a job you can somewhat abuse the Duty Roulette.
50 - 61: Choose a job at 50 and do all the Roulettes you can. Or get them all to 53 from daily roulettes and then take one and main it daily for a while. Take the tomestones you get from it and spend it on Ironworks Gear from Mor Dhona until you have Fending, Maiming, Striking, Scouting, Aiming, Casting, and Healing gears, accesories and weapons respectively, so you can just switch out to each job as they get to. Then repeat the daily process for Shire Gear in Idyllshire, Scaevan Gear in Rhalgr's Reach, and Deepshadow Gear in Eulmore or the Crystarium. If you hit 90 on the job before getting all this, switch to the next one. After you get all these armors, use Squadrons to push the remaining ones from 53 - 61 and switch to Shire Gear. Don't forget to run your job quests in between to help get better abilities to use as the dungeons get progressively more mechanic heavy. Expect to hate seeing the Vault, the Longstop, and Darkhold after a while. (Have an excess of Grand Company Seals? Spend it on emotes, chocobo bardings, or glamour prisms and sell the Prisms on the market if you'd like, just try to keep enough to keep runing Squadrons until you're all at 61 after daily roulettes etc.)
61 - 71: Here comes the hard part. They never updated Squadrons past Heavensward content. So now comes the grind. But thankfully there is a little variation. At this point your hunts should unlock so grab the Hunts for ARR, Heavensward, and Stormblood and just sort of run them to get little EXP, go unlock Kojin and Ananta Tribe quests. These will also help with exp to break up monotony.
71 - 81: Rinse and repeat. Switch out to Scaevan Gear. Daily Roulette, unlock Nuts Hunts in Crystarium, run Trusts (which are much slower than Squadron but what can you do at this point? This is what I did you might have friends to run dungeons with, in which case do the highest dungeon you can queue for [not including Post Patch dungeons] for maximum EXP gain), do your job quests, unlock Pixie Daily Quests for extra Exp from day to day. Grind, grind, grind. You'll probably dislike leveling Tanks and Healers through Trusts because you gotta be involved in the fights. But generally if you're leveling Melee, Caster, Ranged DPS just lead Thancred (and later in Endwalker G'raha) by the nose to the pack of mobs. Attack once with an AoE and then queue up your show and watch it until the pack is cleared. Pause your show or podcast or whatever and walk them to the next. Rinse and repeat. You only have to be involved in Boss Fights. Also don't forget FC buffs and Food. Buy like...cheap food. All food just gives you a 5% exp buff anyway, no use shelling out extra gil on anything that isn't Marmot Steak, Orange Juice, Eggs, and Raisins...it'll be rough going at first because the NPCs also have to be at level to enter a dungeon. But I promise by the time everything is like level 75. They'll all be 80 so you can just do it by dungeon level.
81 - 90: Pretty much the same. Switch out to Deepshadow Gear, daily roulette, Nuts Hunts now you can do them from Old Sharlayan as well and slowly buy Radiant Gear (at time for writing the highest gear you can purchase for Not Gil). G'raha is now able to tank so if you're tired of Thancred just use the Catboy. Same rules as before, NPCs have to level with the dungeons before being able to enter them. But at least you also got Estinien who is okay as a melee damage DPS. Just lead them to the packs and watch your shows until boss fights then food buff and do the encounter then move on. Save the Nut Sacks for the Radiant Gear and then just switch it out. Unless you really like the glamour, gear gotten from Holminster Switch/Dohn Mheg and Tower of Zot/Babil are gonna be useless if you're wearing Scaevan/Deepshadow Gear. Don't really start replacing things til Qitana Ravel and Vanaspati respectively. Grind dungeons with trusts or friends while getting daily exp chores done with in the meantime. If you want to level whatever Corsair and Pictomancer is gonna be. Be sure to save the Deepshadow Aiming Accessories and I assume Scouting Gear as well as Deepshadow Casting Gear and any dungeon equivalents after. Unless you want to grind tomestones for the gear after Dawntrail hits. Also unlock Arkasodara for your daily tribe DoW/DoM Exp
Congrats, over a long period of time everything is level 90.
Part 2: DoL/DoH
1 - 60: Hope you have super deep pockets for gil cause ARE YER READY KIDS!? Thankfully due to the Shadowbringers and Endwalker shake up to leveling Crafting and Gathering. This will be a little better than grinding Trusts. If you're just sitting around and grinding out DoW/DoM you might notice your Leve Allowance is reached 100. Take this time to step aside and track down level appropriate Leves for your chosen crafting and gathering. And turn them in ad nasauem. I suggest: This Site to help you with Leves for Crafting. For Gathering it is initially just find the zone and do the leve but eventually its go to the main city for the expansion and grind it out there. You can do what you want but to save on money I bought Relevant gear for gathering and crafting across 10 levels. So you know gear for level 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 respectively. And nothing in between. Its a money pit, I won't lie. But around level 50, I suggest taking time to do that 3000 quest marathon to unlock Moogle Quests for a daily tribe quest version of Crafting. The money pit is gonna get STEEP for Heavensward Leves but just do your best with the gil you're able to collect from doing daily roulettes with DoW/DoM leveling and any minion and glamour prism money you make.
Level 60 - 70: Good news, abandon the fucking leves. They are just too damn expensive to buy stuff off the market board and level accordingly for Crafting. Get one of your crafters to level 70 cause now you got Stormblood content!!! Which means you can finally unlock Deliveries. Deliveries are like Weekly Hunts, where you craft stuff for an NPC and depending on the quality to get white scripts back. The better the quality, the more white scripts you get from this. Use these scripts to buy better level 60 - 80 gear. Then hard buy level 90 Crafting/Gathering Gear from the usual vendor (not the Marketboard). In addition, you can unlock Namazu to help level your Crafting and Gathering for daily tribe quests.
Level 70 - 80: Unlock Dwarf and Qitari cause now Crafting and Gathering have two separate daily tribes assigned to it. Which means you don't have to choose which one to get the single tribe quests to on a daily basis. Just keep doing those and weekly deliveries and eventually you'll hit 80 on everything. Don't forget to turn in Scripts for better gear to make the transition between expansions a little easier.
Level 80 - 90: Omnicron and Loporrit are your tribe quests now. Do your weekly deliveries and those and you'll hit max. Once you get all the good gear for level 80. Try to focus on one crafting and gathering job to get to 90 and then you can use that job to do weekly deliveries. Check your Timer Tab to sift through the various Delivery NPCs cause some of them will have B O N U S written on a panel for Crafting and Gathering which means they'll shell out even more scrips for you to buy stuff with. At 90 this means you get Purple Scrips and if someone low on Delivery Totem Pole (like Zhoe or M'naago) have a Bonus on their panel is basically just free purple scrips at how easy it is to HQ delivery turn ins. And getting better crafting and gathering gear
And thats it grats, you can also do Ocean Fishing to level FSH but other wise on a daily basis you'll slowly make progress to level DoL/DoH over time. If you want to do it more actively...idfk this is just how I did it on a day to day basis and I eventually got everything there. Hope it helps. If Dawntrail hits before you get everything done, you can probably repeat the steps for DoW/DoM for whatever "catch all" level 90 armor they grandfather in to get you through Post-Patch for the future content and just run Daily Roulette until you collect all of that then just repeat 91 - 100 ad nasaeum for future content. Cheers...
(But Void! What about Ishgardian Restoration. Look...Marketboard is fucking expensive and there's no guarantee you're going to be turning in excellent gear to get super exp for it. So I just skipped it.)

trust npc // y’shai tia
Selection: “Hells yeah, les’ fuck shit up.” Job: Machinist Weapons: Highly customized revolver, modified aetherotransformer, surprise pocket pistol. Depending on the instance he can be carrying a few extra trinkets; ranging from handmade flashbangs, firecrackers, incendiaries and other assorted explosives. AI Behavior: A (generally) obedient and self-sufficient damage dealer, waits for tanks to establish pulls before engaging and tends to naturally hover close to healers, immediately switching targets onto any mobs that they accidentally aggro in attempts to pull hate off of them. Restless, pops peloton consistently and every ten seconds before the buff wears off if the party stays out of combat. When the party is idle for a few minutes he always has varied dialogue that will trigger, whether it be commenting on the area or the party itself, on the off-chance that dialogue runs its course he’ll spend idle moments inspecting the state of his revolver. After landing crits he’ll /taunt his current target, unless the foe is an imperial in which he’ll instead /sneer. Will actively compete with other dps when it comes to limit break usage and will always use what remains of it when the rest of the party has fallen. Saves tactician for large stacking attacks. The lower his health falls the more prone he is to tunnel vision, moving out of position and focusing on nothing else but his dps rotation.
“Show me what’cha got.” - Starting Attack Line “Fancy a lil’ Ishgardian roulette?” - Using Specialty Skills, Variation 1 “Feelin’ lucky?” - Using Specialty Skills, Variation 2 “This shit nev’r gets old.” - Using Hypercharge (/taunts on use) “Gonna light ye up real nice like.” - Using Wildfire (will snap his fingers upon detonation) “I got’chya, easy now.” - Assisting an ally “On yer feet, c’mon now, upsy-daisy.” - Assisting an ally variation
Limit Break: “Oi, clear the line!” - Using limit break with 1 bar • “Ooh, time ‘ta showoff.” - Using limit break with 2 bars • “A jaguar always wins his hunts, no matter th’ cost.” - Using limit break with 3 bars • “I’ll fuckin’ tear ya apart!” - Using any level limit break at low health
KO’d: • “Fuckin’-- ugh... figures.” - Variation 1 • “Godsdammit.. get up... get up..” - Variation 2 • “Not-- not here... please.” - When KO’d within Brayflox’s Longstop
Revived: • “Ugh, sorry. ‘Preciate’cha.” - Variation 1 • “Won’ go down so easy next time.” - Variation 2 • “I’ll buy ya a drink later.” - Variation 3
Misc: Available for all in-game instances, however when brought to Brayflox’s Longstop Normal/Hard his AI behaviour will change drastically. Popping peloton thrice as often and remaining silent throughout the instance, if he feels the tank isn’t pulling large or fast enough he will go out of his way to forcibly create larger pulls, if called out on this he will respond, “Got places ‘ta be, hurry th’ fuck up wills ya?” His gaze seemingly drifting upwards obsessively. When brought to imperial occupied instances such as Castrum Meridianum, Baelsar’s Wall, Praetorium, etc, Y’shai will often run ahead of the party and open passage ways without the need of passcode cards. Every so often this will prompt him to say “Cor, would’ya lookit that. Same as las’ time. Someone’s been slackin.’” If in a party with another miqo’te whom he knows also has a tribal background he will communicate in huntspeak to them during combat; moments before the telegraph for significant attacks are visible he’ll whistle a sound that sounds akin to a low-pitched kingfisher call. If brought to any section of Alexander his dialogue will be noticeably far more excitable, bordering on childlike curiosity, going so far as even stopping during certain fights to remark adoringly on the machinery.

Thess vs More Lurgy
Despite my best hopes, the lurgy that plagued me all yesterday just got worse today. So I’ve been home, resting and hacking up crud, because ick. Never mind, I will feel better soon. It’s probably the changeable weather and the stress. Blegh.
Still managed to run D&D yesterday, though. That was fun. Green dragon lair actions are interesting. I like the checkreins they put on those, too; lair actions in general, I guess. I mean, I liked some lair actions better than others but you can’t use them back-to-back, so no spamming the things. A bit like breath weapon stuff, really.
Which ... okay, brings me to a thing I’m going to vent a bit about. At the end of the session, I got told by one of my players, “The dragon didn’t have to be smart; I stood nearly no chance of hitting it and all it had to do was breathe on us”. Which kind of stings because it’s seriously downplaying the tactics that I as the DM employed to challenge the ungrateful little shit.
(Sorry. Lurgy makes me impatient and cranky.)
Look, you can’t just spam a single powerful thing. I mean, literally - it is in the rules. They were lucky that the green dragon didn’t get its poison breath back more often than it did. But also ... why the hell would I do that? Do I look like the sort of person who seeks an easy TPK at whatever cost? I was NPCing a green dragon. The sneaky, manipulative ones. The ones who like making people do what they want. The ones who want control. So when it comes to a stand-up fight, of course the green dragon’s main weapon is going to be controlling where people can and cannot stand, who can and cannot attack, and basically be a master of crowd control.
Which is exactly what I did. I forced the ones who could use both ranged and melee attacks - and the healer - back, away, and out of line of sight, obliging them to burn their entire movement and in some cases a dash action just to get within line of sight. I waited on Frightful Presence until the melee fighters were right up close - but also waited until the first thorn wall that had separated out the melee from the sometimes-ranged was down, so it could get everybody. The only reason any of those people are still alive is because our healer invested in Boots of Haste, and our bard has Countercharm and invested in an Aura of Life tattoo. Well, that and the Staff of Healing, and even that, @true0neutral risked sacrificing entirely to burn everything it had on two nearly back-to-back Mass Cure Wounds. I made them make some really hard choices. They prevailed, but it was a hard-won fight and I am really proud of them for managing so well.
So to hear that one of my players considered all of that unnecessary because the big bad powerful dragon could have just spammed its one breath weapon attack (which it couldn’t, but never mind) just ... galls me. I made them think. And they mostly did it really well. I think somebody is way too into FFXIV these days and equated my Coryvel to Aiatar from Brayflox’s Longstop. To which I can only say, “Fuck you if you think I’d cheap out on a villain that way”.
I am tired and achy and want to appreciate what I see as a triumph more, but I can’t because the grumpy plus my own general Issues equals hearing, “It didn’t even have to be smart” in my head and taking it to the worst translation possible. Maybe it didn’t have to be smart, with +11 to hit, a one-in-three chance to breathe poison on people and an AC of 19. But I wanted it to be. Because anything less would be belittling my players’ abilities and I will not do that. So I don’t know! Does he think I made it too hard on them when I could have just given them the big ol’ mess of hit points without tactics? Does he not like that I threw a high CR creature at them, despite the fact that the whole group knew it was coming? However you slice it, it adds up to “I did wrong” when all I wanted to do was give them a fucking challenge. I thought that was what this game was all about!

MiqoMarch 2021 Master Post
Collecting prompts for the month and one pink punchy dance cat’s journey through them. I tend to use prompt lists like these to flesh out characters and there’s been a bit more of C’oretta revealed along the way. While only one of these turned into an actual story post, C’oretta had something to say on almost all of them. The few where she gets more serious (”Light”, “Love”) are probably my favorites, but I was also very fond of “Hunt” and “Dark” as those concepts made me giggle and I’m fairly happy with how they turned out.
1. Selfie - C’oretta Khell up close. 2. Job/Class - A bit of history on her jobs and choices. 3. Fave Mount - Rosa the chocobo! 4. Weather - Sunshine and fun go together to C’oretta. 5. Living Space - A violently pink FC room. One of my favorites. 6. Snow - Playing in the wintry weather. 7. Forest - Spooked by the Shroud. 8. Formal - C’oretta’s formal Monk gear, and a dress for fun. 9. Fave Zone - Combo with 11, there’s no place like home! 10. Casual - A relaxing afternoon with a book and some tea. 11. Desert - Combo with 9, exploring Thanalan! 12. Fave Dungeon - C’oretta finds Brayflox’s Longstop pretty. 13. Magic - Gabbing about Arcanima with Aeryn. 14. Food - C’oretta’s all about spices--but sweets are great too! 15. Weapon - Fists and Chakrams are the way to go. 16. Flying - The Round Lanner is SPARKLY y’all! 17. Light - When she goes where you cannot follow. 18. Hunt - A Seeker’s hunting instinct finds an outlet somehow. 19. Gathering - Maybe someday C’oretta will learn a trade. 20. Fave City-State - Ul’dah is always home. 21. Fave Glamour - Picking just one is hard! 22. Stars - Contemplations on impossible distances. 23. Love - Having to do what’s best isn’t easy. Story w/images. 24. Relaxing - Unwinding at the dance club! 25. Fight - Ghimlyt Dark’s all out war. 26. Fave Minion - VIOLET! The “piggy” always at C’oretta’s side. 27. Dark - Gage Acquisition’s resident femroe isn’t to be crossed. 28. Sea - The sea is weird, but the tastiest things come out of it! 29. Fave Color - Meta on why/how the Pink PunchyCat came to be! 30. Friend - Yesuntei is not a ghost. Maybe. 31. Freebie! - Naptime. And done! Thanks for following along!
