Brass Tubes For Sugar Industries | Brass Tube Manufacturers
Brass tubes are used in various industries for different applications, and they may find applications in sugar industries as well. However, the specific use of brass tubes for sugar industries can depend on the context and the particular requirements of the industry. It’s important to note that the choice of materials in any industry, including sugar processing, depends on the specific requirements of the application, considering factors such as temperature, pressure, and the nature of the substances being handled.
Why did we use brass tubes for sugar industries?
Brass tube manufacturers uses brass pipe & tubes in the sugar industry for a variety of reasons, including:
1. Corrosion Resistance
Sugarcane juice and its concentrated forms are slightly acidic and can be corrosive to certain metals. Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, exhibits excellent resistance to corrosion in these environments. This property helps prevent contamination of the sugar product and extends the lifespan of equipment.
2. Heat Transfer Efficiency
Sugar production involves boiling and evaporation processes to concentrate the sugar solution. Brass has a high thermal conductivity, allowing for efficient heat transfer through the tubes. This translates to improved energy efficiency and faster processing times.
3. Strength and Durability
Brass tubes are strong and durable, able to withstand the high pressures and temperatures encountered in sugar mills. They can handle the stress of pumps, valves, and other equipment without being easily damaged.
4. Machinability and formability
Brass is easily machined and formed, allowing for the fabrication of tubes with specific shapes and sizes to meet the needs of various sugar processing equipment. This versatility makes brass a cost-effective and adaptable material for sugar mills.
5. Antibacterial properties
Brass has inherent antibacterial properties that help to reduce the growth of bacteria on its surface. This is important for maintaining hygiene and preventing contamination of the sugar product.
Here are some specific applications of brass tubes in sugar mills:
Evaporators
Brass pipe supplier uses brass pipes extensively in evaporators, where sugarcane juice is concentrated into syrup. The high thermal conductivity of brass ensures efficient heat transfer and rapid evaporation.
Condenser tubes
In vacuum pans, brass tubes condense the sugar syrup back into a concentrated liquid. Their corrosion resistance is crucial in this application.
Heat exchangers
Brass tubes are used in heat exchangers to transfer heat between different liquids in the sugar production process.
Piping systems
Brass tubes are used for piping various fluids, including sugarcane juice, syrup, and water, throughout the sugar mill.
Brass Composition For Sugar Industries
The chemical composition of brass, including brass tubing used in sugar industries, typically consists of copper and zinc as the primary elements. Other alloying elements may be added in smaller amounts to enhance specific properties. The exact composition can vary depending on the specific requirements of the application. Here is a general overview of the chemical composition of brass:
Copper (Cu): Copper is the primary component in brass alloys, typically comprising the majority of the alloy. It provides the base metal with its corrosion resistance, ductility, and conductivity.
Zinc (Zn): Zinc is the second major component in brass. It is added to copper to form the alloy and contributes to the overall strength and hardness of the material. The proportion of zinc can vary to achieve different grades of brass with varying properties.
Lead (Pb): Lead may be added in small amounts to improve machinability. However, lead content in brass has environmental and health considerations, and lead-free brass is often preferred in certain applications.
Tin (Sn): Tin is sometimes added to improve the corrosion resistance of brass, particularly in marine environments. However, tin is not commonly present in standard brass formulations.
Other Elements: Depending on the specific requirements and desired properties, other elements such as aluminum, manganese, iron, nickel, or silicon may be added in trace amounts.
For using brass pipe & tubes in sugar industries, where corrosion resistance and thermal conductivity are often critical, brass alloys with higher copper content and moderate zinc content are commonly used. The specific composition may be tailored to meet the environmental conditions, temperatures, and corrosion challenges encountered in sugar processing equipment.
It’s important to note that industry standards and regulations may dictate certain requirements for the composition of materials used in specific applications. Engineers and materials specialists in the sugar industry should be consulted to ensure that the chosen brass tubing meets the necessary standards and performs well in the intended environment.
Conclusion
Choosing brass tubes for sugar industries is a smart decision, blending strength, durability, and corrosion resistance. These tubes excel in high-pressure, high-temperature processes, showcasing reliability. Whether aiding heat exchange, supporting piping systems, or enhancing overall efficiency in sugar processing, brass tubes offer versatility and top-notch performance. Their robustness against the demands of pumps and valves highlights their crucial role in sustaining smooth operations in sugar mills. In the complex world of industrial applications, brass tubes emerge as a reliable solution, combining functionality and resilience in the challenging realm of sugar production.

陸自防護マスク4
JSDF Type 4 Protective Mask
Me and @bureau-of-mines were in the midst of watching Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters (1968) on Svengoolie with friends and family when out of some miracle, he spotted this thing on eBay mobile and copped it instantly.
These were the standard gas mask of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces from approximately the mid-1980's up until recently. Beginning in 2000, it started getting phased out with the Type 4b Protective Mask (aka the Type 00), and more recently, the Type 18 is now starting to enter service with the JSDF.
The Japanese government is incredibly protective of their CBRN equipment and very few are released to the public; supposedly it's even illegal for Japanese citizens to be in possession of these. How one ended up on U.S. eBay is beyond my comprehension.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the center of the mask is a central inlet/outlet/voicemitter/drinking assembly made of reasonably study plastic and held in place with a metal ear clamp - a small nub sticking out the side would allow a hydration tube to link a canteen to the facepiece.
A downward-facing outlet valve permits moisture drainage and an average-sized voice diaphragm is positioned just up and behind the center NATO 40mm port.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The eyepieces are made of thick glass with brass frames held together by screw clamps. The famous 'sad' appearance of postwar Japanese masks is palpable with this model.
The head harness is of the mesh 'skullcap' variety, and interestingly, despite being 6-point, the top two straps arranged close together so it functions effectively like a wider 5-point strap system.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Inside the mask, there are many details to take note of - here you can see the top straps have two separate positions for the mounting studs for adjustment; the mask seems to have been made in a 'universal' size.
The manufacturer's mark reveals this mask was manufactured by Koken Ltd. around 1996. The inner nosecup is short and squat as is typical for gas masks designed with Asian facial ergonomics in mind. The inner drinking straw can be seen protruding in from side, just in front of the voicemitter.
Above this lies a single nosecup valve disk and at the very bottom is the outlet valve, hidden under the chin rest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Perhaps the most famous use of these masks followed the 1995 Tokyo Subway Sarin Gas Attack, carried out by members of the Aum Shinrikyo doomsday cult. All members of the JSDF decontamination teams were seen wearing the Type 4.
As of writing, this may be the only specimen of these masks in the United states, let alone outside Japan to begin with. We've literally never seen one of these in a collector's hands up until now.

Utterly Ridiculous
Okay so, as promised, today is sword review day!
Last year, i bought a LK Chen sword, my first one in fact! For those who don't know LK Chen is a Chinese sword manufacturer that specialises in high fidelity replicas of original Chinese swords
Enter the Yan-Ling Dao. so, what is a dao? its basically the equivalent of a European falchion or messer, especially the yan-ling dao, or goose quill sabre; which usually has a (sometimes sharpened) false edge near the point where it narrows dramatically to a honestly somewhat worryingly fine point, as well as one to two fullers (grooves) running most of the length of the blade.
Specifications
Sword only weight:  approx. 878 g (1 lb. 14.9 oz)
Blade length approx.         69.50 cm  (27.36")
Handle including fitting     18.00  cm  (7.08")
Total length                        87.00 cm  (34.25")
Point of Balance approx.     8.5 cm (3.35") from hand guard
Blade thickness
at base:                   8.50 mm
40 cm from base: 5.00 mm
5 cm from tip: 2.20 mm
Blade width
at base:                   33.5 mm
40 cm from base: 33.0 mm
50 cm from base: 35.0 mm
60 cm from base: 31.0 mm
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it features wrought iron hilt and scabbard fittings, a (what looks like oak) handle; which is glued and pinned to the tang in 3 places, 2 bamboo pins and a hollow copper pin that allows a lanyard to be attached; wrapped in waxed cotton what is not glued in place, but is however wrapped so tightly that i sincerely doubt it will ever come loose. the sword carries a sun and sky theme with a sun shaped guard and brass decoration around the copper pin. the scabbard fittings match the square handle fittings and feature cloud motifs at the attachment points with copper rivets to continue the colour scheme.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it comes with a wood cored and vegan leather wrapped scabbard that does not retain the sword. i have few problems with this especially concerning that the blade widens until about 2/3 of the way along but it could certainly be a tighter fit. fit aside i have no problems with the scabbard. the general fit and finish of the sword is superb, everything is extremely tight and i could not find a gap or seam i could actually get a fingernail in. the peen is very clean and the hollow copper pin and brass washer are sanded smooth enough you cannot feel them in your grip.
Tumblr media
a final thing to note in details is that it comes as standard with a pattern welded blade, and while this doesn't effect the blade performance in any way with modern steels (in fact perhaps decreasing the durability) it is extremely well executed and honestly beautiful to look at, the pattern reminding of ink in water smoke,or perhaps a wood grain. the pattern is very fine and lightly etched, and the overall blade finish is a mirror polish
Tumblr media
Onto usage! this is what inspired the title because the bastard thing is absolutely terrifying. its rather forward weighted but still fast and agile, and most importantly, boy does it cut. it's honestly perhaps too good at cutting? bottles? no resistance, even if you significantly bugger it up, wood is absolutely fine so long as you don't go too far, there is almost zero hand shock and due to the fact that the blade is oh so slightly convex, the edge is shockingly durable and like a razor. I've shaved with this sword, and it was bloody smooth. early on i had a small accident with it where it bit through 4 towels, a hoodie and about 6mm into my arm while i was wiping it off with no notable resistance
Tumblr media
above is a cardboard tube i cut with it. these make fairly difficult targets as they are relatively hard on the surface and very light, so they just tend to go flying if the cut isn't perfect. this sword doesn't have that problem. it just does it. below is an example of a rising cut where i massively messed up my angle
Tumblr media
here's a poplar branch it cut through in one blow (thumb for scale)
Tumblr media
it cuts. really well. it also handles very nicely, it feels half way between a very nimble and agile blade that just wants to move, and a blade that desires to be swung into a target as hard as possible with no finesse, and honestly, it does both really well. it stabs extremely well too, i first tested it against bottles and then wood, deliberately twisting the point slightly, and it's still completely straight.
so it's an incredible cutter, it thrusts well, and it's durable beyond what you would expect it to be. so what's the downside?
well, the scabbard just straight up doesn't retain the blade. at all. and the handle is very square. i personally found the handle very comfortable if gripped below the iron fittings, and the handle geometry is certainly beneficial to edge alignment, but it's worth pointing out
Overall, i completely adore it. it's my favorite sword in my collection and the one i'd keep if i had to give up all the others. it's full of character, it cuts like a monster and honestly it's just drop dead gorgeous.
available from the knight shop (uk) or kult of athena (us) for the low low price of £475 (check kult of athena yourself icba)
in conclusion, get it. now. i am no longer asking. i don't care if you aren't a fan of Chinese swords or sabres but it's so magnificent you need one, even if you think you don't
Thank you all for reading my beloved readers, next post will be something? i'm open to suggestions. the next review may be coming in December or January. it might be another dao or perhaps a sidesword???????
May your edges stay sharp, and your points true!

What I think disability aids made by Borderlands gun manufacturers would be like. CW for mentions of systemic ableism and weight loss.
Atlas: Sleek and fancy, but also expensive as hell and prone to accidents. Sort of like IRL fancy prostheses or wheelchairs - they seem cool but are actually kinda sucky and very pricey. Don't expect the average Promethean to afford one. Though in this case, it's because they're often loaded with purely experimental tech that was probably shipped too early.
Hyperion: They make a few prosthetic and implant models and that's it. Pretty much all their stuff is aimed at their own employees trying to get "ahead" and not actual disabled people, so give up trying to find one fitting your particular needs. At least they're pretty fucking sturdy (but not against hacking). And no, they haven't thought of adopting those exoskeletons their engineers use for other needs.
Maliwan: Similar to above, but aimed at their general customer base instead. These guys are hipsters who try marrying form and function, and in many cases that means augs of some sort. I wouldn't really call them transhumanist though, that implies respecting bodily autonomy, human rights and not being ableist; these guys would sell arms with tracking chips and neural interfaces that fry your brainstem if you don't pay the subscription fee. And then tell you to lose weight with the new fad diet their marketing department cooked up. The hoverchairs and flavored chewelry are pretty great, tho.
Dahl: They wouldn't. They claim to be reliable but they're actually the biggest cowards in the Six Galaxies. If one of their soldiers loses a leg or something that's grounds for being (dis)honorably discharged. What exoskeletons or other devices they make are purely for war. Plus, the one Dahl employee we see having a prosthesis (Helena Pierce) doesn't seem to have a Dahl brand one. Aside from weird metal rank implants and funky gun-inspired fidget cubes they don't do much in this department.
Torgue: Expect everything to be painted like a Hot Wheels toy and probably explode somehow - either on you or on your enemies. All the mobility aids have jets attached for either smacking ableists with great force or speeding through town. I think Torgue himself wears a hearing aid (from all the explosions) and it looks like a fucking microphone with car parts on it, complete with exhaust.
Jakobs: Steampunk baybeee!!! Of course, the subgenre of said steampunk depends on the quality of the aid. The most basic ones are IRL Victorian era metal arms: flat, spiky, inhuman, but still quite ornate. The ones custom-tooled for execs and their families (looking at you, Alistair Hammerlock) are more "sleek" steampunk, with fine chassis of signature Jakobs brass and filigree engravings. They also make genuine wood canes with organic rubber grips that will outlive you if you take proper care of them... which is definitely shown in their price tags. The Jakobs stim toy line is half weird gear contraptions, half competition with Dahl's fidget cubes.
Vladof: Heavy, clunky, dieselpunk style. But damn if they aren't effective. A standard Vladof boostchair could break through a wall and be completely unharmed. A Vladof AAC device looks like an electron tube supercomputer that you have to haul around in a cart. That's all I really have to say here.
Tediore: I have no idea.

what is this object called. i have it currently as "brass pipe fitting" but this is explicitly not what a pipe fitting is.
(trick question, the answer is "this object doesn't exist, pipes with these sorts of bolted connections are made by casting the entire pipe as one unit, not manufactured by welding these things onto the ends of tubes, and if they did exist they would be made of a material other than brass" but like. it's a gameplay conceit)
if it turns out the most accurate possible name for this thing is something ludicrous like "pipe mating plate" i might as well die. i'm not calling it that but i also refuse to give off the sense that i don't know what a pipe fitting is

Besson tubas have a long and storied history in the world of brass instruments. Founded in the 19th century, the Besson brand has become synonymous with quality and craftsmanship. The origin of where these tubas are made is a topic of great interest among musicians, collectors, and enthusiasts alike. Understanding the manufacturing location not only provides insights into the production process but also into the heritage and traditions associated with the brand. This article will delve into the details of where Besson tubas are made, exploring various aspects such as the historical manufacturing sites, the current production facilities, and the factors that have influenced the location over time.
Historical Manufacturing Locations
France: The Birthplace of Besson: Besson was initially established in France. The rich musical and industrial heritage of France provided a fertile ground for the brand’s growth. In the early days, French artisans and craftsmen were involved in the meticulous construction of Besson tubas. The manufacturing process in France was characterized by a high level of attention to detail and a focus on traditional techniques. For example, the hand-hammering of the brass sheets to achieve the desired shape and thickness was a common practice. The French workshops were known for their ability to produce tubas with a distinct tonal quality, which was highly prized by professional musicians.
The location in France also allowed for close proximity to other musical institutions and a community of musicians who could provide feedback and influence the design of the tubas. This interaction between the manufacturers and the musical community contributed to the continuous evolution of the Besson tuba design.
United Kingdom: Another Key Hub: Over time, Besson expanded its manufacturing operations to the United Kingdom. The UK had a vibrant brass band culture, and this presented a significant market opportunity for Besson. The manufacturing facilities in the UK incorporated some of the traditional French techniques while also adapting to the local demands and preferences. The UK-made Besson tubas were often designed to meet the specific needs of brass bands, such as having a more compact size for ease of transport and a tone that blended well within the ensemble.
The UK manufacturing sites also benefited from a pool of skilled workers with a strong background in metalworking and instrument making. These workers contributed to the reputation of Besson tubas for their durability and reliability.
Current Manufacturing Facilities
Germany: The Present-Day Production Center: Currently, a significant portion of Besson tubas are manufactured in Germany. The German manufacturing facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and machinery. This modern equipment allows for greater precision in the production process. For instance, computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) are used to create the intricate valve systems and tubing configurations of the tubas. The German production sites also adhere to strict quality control standards. Each tuba undergoes a series of rigorous tests to ensure that it meets the high standards of tone, intonation, and playability.
Collaborative Manufacturing Efforts: In addition to the main manufacturing site in Germany, Besson may also engage in collaborative manufacturing efforts with other partners. These collaborations can involve the production of specific components or the assembly of tubas in different locations. For example, some specialized valve mechanisms might be manufactured in a particular region known for its expertise in valve production, and then these components are shipped to the main assembly facility in Germany. This collaborative approach allows Besson to leverage the strengths of different regions and optimize the production process.
Quality Control and the Manufacturing Location
Stringent Quality Checks in Germany: In the German manufacturing facilities, quality control is a multi-step process. Firstly, the raw materials are carefully inspected to ensure their purity and suitability for tuba production. The brass sheets, for example, must have the right composition and thickness to produce the desired resonance. Then, during the manufacturing process, each stage is monitored. The soldering of joints is checked for strength and airtightness, as any leaks can affect the tuba’s tone and playability. After the assembly is complete, the tuba undergoes extensive acoustic testing. This includes measuring the intonation across the entire range of the instrument and assessing the tonal balance. Only tubas that pass all these quality checks are approved for sale.
Historical Quality Standards and Their Legacy: The quality standards set in the early days of Besson’s manufacturing in France and the UK have had a lasting impact. The traditional techniques and attention to detail from those historical locations have been incorporated into the modern quality control processes. For example, the hand-finishing touches that were common in French manufacturing are still emulated in some aspects of the final polishing and detailing of the tubas, even in the German production. This continuity in quality standards, despite the change in manufacturing location, has helped to maintain the brand’s identity and the loyalty of its customers.
Impact of Manufacturing Location on Tuba Design
Cultural and Musical Influences: The different manufacturing locations have brought about unique design characteristics. In France, the design was often influenced by the classical music traditions. The tubas were designed to have a rich and warm tone suitable for symphonic orchestras. The shape and size of the bell, for example, were crafted to project the sound in a way that blended well with other orchestral instruments. In the UK, due to the brass band culture, the tubas were designed to be more portable and to have a sound that could cut through the ensemble in an outdoor setting. The bore size and tubing length were adjusted accordingly to achieve the desired volume and projection.
Technological Design Innovations: The manufacturing location in Germany, with its access to advanced technology, has led to significant design innovations. The use of 3D printing, for example, has enabled the creation of more complex valve and tubing designs. This allows for better airflow and intonation control. The lightweight materials and alloys that are available in the German manufacturing ecosystem have also been incorporated into the tuba design. This results in tubas that are more manageable in weight without sacrificing tone quality. The modern manufacturing location has thus opened up new possibilities for Besson tuba design, pushing the boundaries of what was previously possible.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the manufacturing location of Besson tubas has evolved over time, from its origins in France and expansion to the UK, to the current prominence of Germany. Multiple factors such as economic considerations, technological advancements, quality control, and cultural influences have shaped this evolution. Looking ahead, trends like globalization and sustainable manufacturing will continue to influence where Besson tubas are made, ensuring that the brand remains at the forefront of the musical instrument manufacturing industry.
