Nixon accompanies Winters on a much needed 48 hour pass to Paris…
The concierge flipped nervously through the ledger, glancing up every so often at the two uniformed men at the front desk.
Nix shifted his bag on his shoulder, one dark eyebrow quirked impatiently. He watched Winters as he leaned against the polished wood of the front desk. There were smudges under his eyes, dark and bruise-like, and a slight curve had settled in his shoulders. The past few weeks had been hard for all the men, but they had been especially hard for Winters. He hated handing Easy over to another C.O. and it showed in the creases that now permanently resided between his brows.
“It seems I only have one room available tonight.” The concierge finally said.
“We’ll take it.” Nix cut him off, anxious to get them both out of the crowded lobby before Winters could change his mind about being here. Winters was less than thrilled about the 48 hour pass but the brass had decided a break was necessary for their dedicated Captain. Nix had finally talked him into it and decided to come along to make sure Winters did more than pace and brood for two days.
The concierge pulled the key from a rack behind him. “Third floor, Room 316.”
The elevator doors slid open and Winters followed Nix down the hall until they finally reached the door marked with the gold numbers ‘316’. He opened the heavy door and flipped on the lights, the golden glow of the lamp illuminated the well appointed room and the large bed that took the center of the room.
The only bed.
“I can go back downstairs and see if -”
“We’ll make it work.” Winters sighed tiredly, shouldering past Nix. He dropped his bag onto the luggage rack in the corner of the room then headed to the bathroom. “I’m going to take advantage of some hot water.” he called over his shoulder before pushing the door closed behind him.
Nix poured himself a few fingers of scotch from the decanter on the sideboard before dropping himself down onto the bed, relaxing into the plush duvet and sinking into what must have been the softest mattress he’d ever felt. Though he supposed anything would feel luxurious after countless nights spent in foxholes and the occasional stiff cot. He sipped his scotch, savoring burn as the sound of running water in the bathroom lulled him to sleep.
The rocking motion of the bed jolted him awake. Winters on the other side, dressed in his uniform pants and undershirt, a white towel draped over his shoulders absorbing the drips from his hair. He grabbed several pillows from the bed, piling them onto an arm of the chaise by the window.
“What are you doing?” Nix asked, sitting up and setting his glass aside.
“You can have the bed.” Winters said over his shoulder, pulling a spare blanket from the linen closet and tossing it onto the chaise.
“Dick. Dick c’mon” he caught Winters by his elbow, turning him around to face him.
“You’re here to relax and get some rest” Nix emphasized, leading Winters over to the bed and pushing him down gently by the shoulders. “And that's exactly what you’re gonna do,” he added.
Winters huffed in exasperation, scrubbing a hand over his face before resting his forehead in his palms.
Nix gathered the pillows from the chaise and tossed them onto the bed. Winters, resigned to his fate, settled under the covers and turned away from Nix before flicking off the lamp.
He was pulled from sleep once again by the bed shifting beneath him. He heard Winters roll over, tugging at the sheets and fluffing his pillows. Not even five minutes later the mattress shook again as he rolled to the other side.
“Would you cut it out?!” Nix huffed, flipping over to face winters who was in the process of fluffing his pillow yet again.
Winters scrubbed his hands over his face, sitting up against the headboard “can't sleep” he groaned.
“Yea, that makes two of us now”, nix grumbled back.
“You’re the one who insisted I sleep here.”
The back of Winters’ head thudded against the headboard in frustration and the crease between his brow deepened even as his eyes remained closed. In the moonlight that filtered in through the curtains, Nix could still make out the tense lines around his mouth and the hollows under his eyes. He looked positively exhausted. Smaller somehow. Like the stress of the past few months had eroded his very being. It made Nix’s chest clench with an aching pain behind his ribs.
Nix sat up too, resting against the headboard bedside Winters. The warm brush of their thighs searing him to his core. He’d spent countless nights in close quarters with Winters, bombed out farmhouses and foxholes, sharing body heat under the guise of necessity. But this felt entirely different. Intimate in a way that took his breath out of his lungs and stoked the ember of desire within him.
With two fingers, he tipped Winters’ chin toward him and met that perfect crystalline blue gaze. He moved cautiously slow, always feeling out that ever shifting boundaries between them.
“Let me help you.” He whispered as his thumb grazed the freshly shaved skin of Winters’ jaw. The soft little exhale the touch elicited sent a frisson of heat down Nix’s spine.
He turned in bed toward the other man, cupping Winters’ face in both his hands. And with as much restraint as he could manage, kissed him gently.
Winters tensed at the first brush of his lips but before Nix could pull away, he went slack in his hold. Winters leaned into the kiss, parting his lips, granting permission as Nix’s hands drifted down to his shoulders. Winter’s body uncoiled slowly, relaxing and melting into him as he sucked at his bottom lip and tugged at the hem of his undershirt.
He lifted his arms for Nix to pull the shirt over his head. The smooth pale pains of his chest and arms were etched marble in the silver light and the auburn hair formed a dark path between his pectoral muscles, down his toned abdomen and below where the sheets pooled at his waist.
Nix pressed gentle, nipping kisses to the exposed curve of Winters’ throat as his hand slid down Winters’ chest and abdomen; the taught muscles dancing under his fingers. He paused when he reached the waistband of his boxers, holding his own breath as he cupped the unmistakable bulge that was forming between Winters’ legs.
He squeezed the hardening length, palming the growing outline through the thin material and watching Winters’ face for any sign of discomfort; thanking every known deity when he saw only the tortured throes of desire.
“Is this ok?” Nix asked, voice strained.
Winters nodded, eyes shut tight as he tried to bite back another moan.
Nix pulled his boxer shorts down in one smooth tug, leaving Winters fully bare, all alabaster skin and hewn muscle against the soft sheets. His now fully erect member laid thick and proud against his stomach, the tip blushing a deep scarlet and already leaking pearls of precum. Nix trailed a finger down the prominent vein on the underside, completely enraptured as he watched Winters’ abs ripple at the light, teasing touch.
He glanced back up to Winters’ face. His jaw was tight and he watched Nix back with unmatched intensity; the same way he watched the line late at night. But the shallow, panting breaths and the unmistakable glossiness in those blue eyes left no question in Nix’s mind.
He gripped Winters with a firm, sure hand and gave a few languid strokes, swiping a thumb over the weeping head and working the wetness down his shaft.
Nix continued to watch his face as he worked him toward the edge. He was beautifully flushed; eyes shut tight and mouth slightly open in a silent moan of pleasure. He was perfect.
”That’s it, Dick, let go for me. I’ve got you.” Nix purred in his ear, tightening his grip and working him faster.
Winters nodded, releasing a shuddered breath. He was always the one in control, the one who the men looked to for direction; he held their lives in his hands every day. but in this moment he was all too willing to cede control completely to Nix. It wasn’t weakness or wanton carelessness, but rather a show of absolute trust.
Winters’ breath came in ragged pants as he leaned into Nix’s touch, relaxing his thighs wider to give Nix a better angle and submitting completely to the pleasure.
The sight alone had Nix on the edge himself, his own cock was stiff and throbbing but he focused all his attention on Winters. This was all about him, his pleasure, and his finally letting go of the tension that had been building between them.
He sped up his strokes, twisting his palm over the tip each time and watching closely as Winters’ abs jumped and his thighs trembled as he teetered on the edge. He groaned and a blissed out sob broke from his chest, body shaking violently as he coated Nix’s hand and his own abs with his release.
Winters fell back against the pillows, panting and boneless in the afterglow of bliss.
Nix reached over the side of the bed, grabbing his undershirt from the floor. He gently cleaned the pearly streaks from Winters’ skin.
Winters’ head lolled on his pillow, looking up at Nix with glossy eyes, a deeply satisfied grin spreading over his face as he traced his finger tips down Nix’s chest.
A similar grin pulled at Nix’s lips as he felt the fingers slide down to the band of his boxers.
“Don’t look at me like that.”

Cabin Inn
As the car rumbled along the road, the only sound was the crunch of gravel under the tires and the occasional soft groan from Bubbles in the backseat. Mark drove with a palpable tension, his eyes scanning the dark woods for any sign of trouble. Cesar sat beside him, his worried expression deepening with each passing moment.
The isolation of the drive gave Bubbles time to reflect. The physical pain was one thing—a constant, throbbing reminder of the night’s events—but it was the emotional and mental strain that weighed heaviest on her. The secret she guarded so fiercely, the identity of the Celestial Artisan, felt like a growing burden, one that threatened to expose itself with every encounter with the Alternates.
When they finally arrived at the cabin, the first hints of dawn were creeping over the horizon, painting the sky in shades of soft pink and blue. Mark’s Hispanic friend quickly unlocked the door, and the three stepped in.
The decor embodies the quintessence of rustic charm blended with touches of '90s flair. The trio were greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, illuminated by the soft glow of a wood-burning stove in the corner, crackling gently.
The living area features a comfortable, slightly worn sofa adorned with plaid throws and mismatched cushions that add a homely touch. Nearby, a large, hand-knotted wool rug in earth tones anchors the space, inviting anyone to relax by the hearth. The walls, paneled in knotty pine, are adorned with framed landscape paintings and vintage skiing posters reminiscent of the era.
A heavy, wooden coffee table sits in the middle of the room, its surface bearing the patina of years of use, perhaps scattered with a few magazines from the '90s, like issues of "National Geographic" or "Outdoor Life." Nearby, a bookshelf overflows with a mix of classic literature and popular novels from the decade, along with board games and a cassette tape collection featuring grunge and pop hits.
The kitchen is simple yet functional, with aged copper pots hanging from a handcrafted pot rack. The countertops, perhaps a bit dated, are covered in laminate that mimics the look of natural stone. They show signs of wear but are clean and well-maintained. The pine cabinets match the wall paneling, and an old, chunky microwave sits next to a spice rack filled with dried herbs and spices.
A small dining area features a round wooden table and chairs, each chair cushion covered in a floral fabric that was trendy at the time. Overhead, a wrought iron chandelier provides soft lighting, enhancing the cabin's rustic ambiance.
The bedrooms continue the theme down a narrow hallway with cozy plaid-patterned flannel bedding, handmade quilts, and thick woolen blankets. The furniture is sturdy and wood-made, with vintage brass lamps on the nightstands casting a warm glow.
The cabin's windows are covered in handmade curtains, perhaps a bit faded but clean. These curtains offer views of the surrounding woods and let in natural light that plays across the cabin's nostalgic interior.
"Wow... DAMN! I didn't know your guys' cabin you two own was nice!" Bubbles’s eyes sparkled in awe. “So much for living in 2024. It looks really nice to live in here.” She thought. “Ack–!” She winced again, feeling sharp pain shooting on her side.
Mark immediately went to the bathroom to gather medical supplies while Cesar filled a basin with warm water and grabbed some towels. They returned to Bubbles’ side and cleaned her wounds with gentle, efficient movements.
"You're good at this," Bubbles commented, trying to mask her pain with a weak smile as she observed her Hispanic friend handle the cloth.
"I've had some practice," the Hispanic male replied in a low voice. “I used to help my mom with her garden injuries while tending to our roses. I never thought I'd be doing this under such different circumstances."
The brown-haired teen rummaged through a first aid kit they found in a cabinet, pulling out some antiseptic and bandages. "This might sting a bit," Mark warned before carefully applying the antiseptic.
Bubbles tensed, her breath hitching as the solution touched her wound, but she bit her lip and bore it. "Thanks," she breathed out once Cesar began to bandage her up more professionally than she would have expected.
As they tended to her, the silence was heavy with unspoken questions and concerns. Finally, Mark broke it, his voice filled with unwavering support.
"Bubbles, you know you can trust us, right?" he asked, his voice gentle but firm. "Whatever is going on, whatever you're hiding... we're here for you, no matter what."
Bubbles looked up at them, her eyes reflecting a mix of gratitude and fear. She took a deep breath, considering her following words carefully.
"I know," she replied softly. "And I appreciate it more than you can know. It's just... complicated."
Cesar nodded, dabbing at a particularly nasty cut. "We get it. But seeing you out there tonight and the way you handled everything... You’ve almost got yourself killed!"
Bubbles chuckled weakly. "Understatement of the year."
“Don’t wave it off!” The Hispanic friend scolded her. “You’re always putting yourself in a situation that scares us when you almost die every time! It’s not funny! ¿¡Lo entiendes!?”
"Sí, lo sé." She rolled her eyes slightly.
Mark placed a reassuring hand on Bubbles' shoulder, his expression serious. "We care about you, Bubbles. We don't want to lose you. So please, promise us you'll be more careful next time."
Bubbles nodded, her gaze meeting Mark's with sincerity. "I promise. I'll do everything in my power to keep us safe. But you have to promise me something, too."
Cesar and Mark exchanged a glance, their expressions curious. "What's that?" Mark asked.
Bubbles took a deep breath, steeling herself in case she had to do a reveal. "Promise me that you'll trust me no matter what happens. Even if things seem impossible or I make decisions you don't understand. Promise me you'll trust that I'm doing what's best for all of us."
There was a moment of silence as her words hung in the air, the weight of their implications sinking in. Mark and Cesar shared a look before turning back to Bubbles, determination shining in their eyes.
.
.
"We promise,"
.
.
they said in unison, their voices filled with conviction.
With that assurance, Bubbles felt a weight lift from her shoulders. She knew she couldn't do this alone, and having her friends' trust and support meant everything to her.
“Let’s rest for the night,” Cesar said, rising from his sofa seat. “We can worry about the sigil cards later. Bubbles can explain it to us in the morning since she knows how it works.” He nodded.
Mark nodded in agreement, his gaze softening as he looked at Bubbles. "Yeah, rest is what you need right now. We'll figure out the rest tomorrow." He helped her to her feet, supporting her as they walked towards one of the bedrooms.
The cabin, with its warm wooden walls and the comforting crackle of the fire, felt like a sanctuary from the chaos of the outside world. Bubbles felt the tension start to ease from her shoulders as they entered the cozy bedroom, its rustic charm underscored by the soft glow of a bedside lamp.
Cesar pulled back the covers on the bed, fluffing the pillows before turning to Bubbles. "Get some sleep. We'll be right here if you need anything," he assured her, his tone protective.
Bubbles managed a small smile, grateful for their care and concern. "Thank you, both of you," she said, her voice thick with emotion. "For everything."
As she settled into the bed, the soft mattress comforting against her bruised body, she felt a sense of peace envelop her. The weight of her secrets and the burden of her responsibilities were still there, but for now, she allowed herself the luxury of rest, surrounded by the quiet strength of her friends.
Mark lingered for a moment, watching her with a thoughtful expression. "Goodnight, Bubbles," he said softly before leaving the room with Cesar.
Once they were back in the living area, Cesar looked at Mark, a concerned frown creasing his brow. "Do you think she's telling us everything?" he asked quietly.
Mark sighed, sinking into an armchair by the fire. "I don't know, man. But I do know she's under a lot of pressure. Whatever she's holding back, I'm sure she has her reasons. We just need to be there for her, no matter what."
Cesar nodded slowly, his gaze fixed on the flickering flames. "Yeah. We stick together. That's how we'll get through this."
They sat silently for a moment, the crackle of the fire filling the space between them. Both were lost in their thoughts, pondering the complexities of their situation and the mysterious entity known as the Celestial Artisan. The night deepened around them, and the dark woods outside the cabin whispered their own secrets.
Back in the bedroom, Bubbles drifted into a restless sleep, her dreams a whirlwind of shadowy figures and echoing voices. She was haunted by the Perpetrator's words, the implications of her own power, and the unknown challenges that lay ahead. Yet, amidst the tumult of her subconscious, a steadfast resolve formed. She would protect her friends, come what may. She was the Celestial Artisan, whether acknowledged or hidden, and she bore the weight of that mantle with a fierce determination.
Morning would come, bringing with it the need for decisions and actions. But for now, in the heart of the night, Bubbles and her friends found a semblance of peace in the solidarity of their bond, the quiet strength of their unity offering a shield against the darkness outside.

“It’s gonna get me by the end of the night.” | Shadows | Stalking | "Who's there?"
Kili Rating: T AU: Fast Car (formerly Dead Batteries) - Ao3 / Tumblr - Directly follows Brass Knuckles Words: 2,126
--
Kili stumbled, sore and disoriented, from his bed to the bathroom late in the morning. His skin was split open over his cheekbone and eyebrow. Both were red and swollen with darkening bruises spreading out around them in a wide radius. “Fuck,” he breathed. There was no way he was going to be able to hide any of this with make up and there was no way it was going to be gone by Monday morning. It was actually going to look a lot worse by then.
“Fuck.”
He stripped off his shirt and underwear to wash away the dried blood from his face and the dirt. He also hoped that the warm water would soothe the ache in his muscles. While washing away dirt and the stink of fear from his skin he found more bruises than he remembered receiving. There were bruises on his knees, one shin was darkening along the bone, one hip had a bit of road rash where he must have landed on it with subsequent bruising. There was one that concerned him. It was the one on his back. It was dark and tender to the lightest touch. He twisted to see it better under the spray of the water, but his body protested and pain from that area shot up his spine. He touched it and wondered if he should go into the ER to have it checked.
The ER doctor would ask questions that Kili did not want to answer.
He was wearing sweatpants and drying off his hair when there was a knock at his door. Kili froze and moved closer to the open bathroom door. He listened.
The note that had been pinned to his chest said Friday. But since when had blackmailers stuck to pre-arranged schedules? Kili did have a key to the pharmacy.
Then another knock. It was harder this time.
Kili set the towel down and tiptoed into the kitchen. He opened one of the drawers silently. From its contents he picked the meat tenderizer. He knew from those martial arts classes that your chances of being cut when in a knife fight were 100%. You just tried to control where you got cut. Kili would much rather have a blunt object at his disposal than a sharp one.
Kili walked silently to the door. “Who’s there?”
“It’s us!” Tauriel answered. “Open the door!”
Kili relaxed his grip on the tenderizer mallet. He looked through the spy hole in the door. Tauriel and Ari stood there. Ari had paint on her face.
“Is it just the two of you?”
Tauriel frowned. “Yes? Were we supposed to bring someone else?”
Kili opened the door. He did consider telling them that he was sick, the flu (even though he got the flu shot the first chance he got every year) or something similarly mundane. But he knew that Tauriel would not let it go. She would be back with soup and a stack of crap movies. “I forgot that we had plans,” he said lamely as he opened the door.
“How’d you forget?” Ari asked. “It’s all Tau has talked about for weeks,” she teased. She was busy hanging her outerwear on the rack by the door.
“Do you want me to paint your face too?” Tauriel was asking at the same time. She dropped her bag and shrugged out of her coat.
Kili shut the door and waited for the reaction he knew would come the moment they saw him.
And there it was. Tauriel’s jaw dropped and her eyes widened. “What happened?”
“What?” Ari asked, turning, but then she too stopped.
“It looks worse than it is,” Kili shrugged.
“You look like shit,” Tauriel said.
“Gee, thanks.”
“Really, though,” Ari said, “what happened?”
Kili shrugged again, “I was walking home late last night, that’s what happened.” He moved to put the meat tenderizer away.
Tauriel’s eyes narrowed. “Is that why you were prepared to brain someone when you answered the door?”
“Yes.” Kili quickly thought of what he could say, what story he could give that would be plausible, but would not be the truth. The last thing he was going to do was drag his friends into this. Nothing was coming to mind.
Tauriel crossed her arms. “And why would a mugger come to your door less than 12 hours after he robbed you?”
“I—”
“Let him be, Tau,” Ari scolded. “You,” she pointed at Kili. “Sit down and let me take a look at you.”
“I’m fine,” Kili protested.
“I’ll be the judge of that,” she replied brusquely. “You do have a first aid kid, correct?”
Kili’s shoulders slumped in defeat, “Beneath the bathroom sink.” He did not have the energy or the mental agility to argue. The room was so bright that it was giving him a headache. He kept meaning to have blinds, curtains, something installed over the floor to ceiling windows that created the exterior walls of his open plan kitchen and dining room. He had put curtains in the bedrooms, but the main living spaces seemed less important. But now, with his head throbbing more with each passing minute, he was annoyed with himself for putting off such a simple task.
Ari pointed to the couch, “Sit.”
Kili did as he was told. He sat on the edge of the low black sofa, elbows on his knees.
“Stay.” Ari disappeared into his bathroom to find his first aid kit.
Tauriel stood in front of him and crossed her arms, “So what really happened?”
“I told you, I was walking home, it was late—”
“Kili.”
“What?”
“Did you file a police report?”
“What?”
Tauriel repeated herself, enunciating each word, “If you were mugged did you file a police report?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s not worth it,” Kili snapped defensively.
“You have seen your face, haven’t you?”
“They didn’t take anything important.”
“And that’s a good reason not to report it?” Tauriel asked skeptically, raising one eyebrow.
Kili did not answer.
“Leave him alone,” Ari scolded gently, pushing Tauriel to the side. “Not everyone wants to report every little thing to the authorities.”
“They should,” Tauriel shot back. “Even if there’s nothing to recover in terms of stolen property or money it helps them track crime data and enhances their ability to make decisions about where their time and energy should go.”
“Simmer down,” Ari replied calmly, lowering one hand to demonstrate. “Yelling convinces nobody of anything.”
Tauriel grumbled under his breath, but she did settle down.
Ari laid out the items she had found in the bathroom on a clean hand towel on the ottoman. “You don’t have much in there,” she said.
“I wasn’t expecting to need anything more heavy duty than some bandaids and antibiotic ointment,” Kili replied. “You’re lucky I had that much.”
Ari sat on the ottoman so she could face Kili without having him move. “Let me see,” she said under her breath, turning his face from one side to the other. She felt along Kili’s cheekbone and brow bone, the same thing he had done himself last night, feeling for any obvious fractures and reading his responses.
“Ow!” he pulled away when she touched a particularly tender spot.
“Stay still,” she pulled him back into place. “Do I need to give you a der Lutscher like I give to my kids?”
“Sucker,” Tauriel translated for Kili before he could even ask.
“Do you have one?” Kili asked hopefully.
“No,” Ari replied brusquely. She tore open an alcohol wipe and used that around the open wounds. “I can’t promise that nothing’s broken,” she said. “You would need to go to a hospital for that.”
“I know.”
“And I’m assuming that that’s out of the question for the same reason that filing a police report is out of the question?”
Kili did not answer.
“You know the symptoms of a concussion as well as I do, and if you have any other concerning symptoms you should take yourself down to the ER regardless of whatever your inhibitions are.” Ari was busy opening a couple of butterfly bandages as she said this. “Can you be trusted to do that?”
“And before you answer, know that I am more than happy to stick around and make sure that you do exactly that,” Tauriel interjected.
“You both do know that I’m a grown person, right?” Kili asked saltily.
“That is currently up for debate.”
“Hold still,” Ari instructed again as she applied the bandages, pulling the split open skin back together. When she was done Kili had 3 butterfly bandages on his face. “I can’t do anything about that bruise on your back. A doctor—”
“Or the ER.”
“Or the ER would be your best bet for that.” Ari worked as a school nurse for some private school that Kili was always forgetting the name of. She would double as a substitute for their German classes when needed or as a conversation buddy when needed.
“What, you don’t carry a CAT scan in your back?” Kili asked with faux incredulity.
“You’re deflecting.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Do I have to be half-naked to have this conversation, or can I get my shirt now?”
Tauriel narrowed her eyes.
“Go,” Ari waved her hand.
Kili took his time picking out a shirt. Nothing felt quite right. He was looking for something specific, but he could not put his finger on what that something was. He flipped the hangers in his closet, one by one. Each sweatshirt or shirt had something that just did not work right now. Either the fabric was too scratchy, it fit too snuggly, it was not warm enough, and on and on. And then he saw the item that was hanging in the back of his closet. A worn plaid shirt in an outdated pattern hung in the very back, behind everything else. He could count on one hand the number of times that he had worn it. But it was never tossed into the donation pile or delegated to use as a gym shirt, paint shirt, or turned into a rag. It was carefully folded up and moved from place to place with him. It had traveled from California to his first dorm room, from that dorm room to later dorm rooms, and spare bedrooms in Tauriel or Ari’s parent’s houses for the summers, then to his grad school apartment, his first apartment without a roommate, and then this one. Sometimes it was folded in the back of a dresser drawer, sometimes hanging in the back of his closet like now, sometimes in a box on a shelf, once it had even found a place beneath his pillow.
It was Fili’s shirt. It had been loose on Fili then, even looser on Kili when it first came home with him in his backpack. It was the shirt Fili had been wearing that time he almost fought Kili’s dad in his front yard, it was the shirt Fili had worn countless times while working on something in the shed.
Now Kili pulled the shirt over his head and rolled the sleeves up. It was loose and soft, warm but not so much that he started sweating. And he felt safe. He ran his hands through his hair, preparing himself to go back into the main room and being subjected to more questions.
Ari and Tauriel were whispering back and forth when Kili came out of his bedroom.
“Ask,” he said, flopping onto the couch.
“We’ve decided that if you don’t want to talk about it then we will respect that,” Ari said.
Kili raised an eyebrow skeptical, before wincing and trying to arrange his expression differently, “We?”
Tauriel scowled, arms crossed.
“Yes,” Ari took one of Tauriel’s hands. “We.”
“But if you do want to talk about it then we’re more than happy to listen.”
Kili shook his head. He propped his feet on the ottoman and sank back into the couch. “I don’t.”
“And we will respect that. So,” Ari changed the subject. “What is the plan?”
“We could still go to the game,” Tauriel suggested.
“I’m not really up for that. Sorry,” Kili said. “But you two can still go. I completely understand.”
Tauriel shook her head. “We’re supposed to be hanging out today.”
“I get to see her everyday,” Ari said. “I don’t see you everyday.”
Kili smiled with amusement, “Jealous?” he asked Tauriel. “That I get to pick what we’re doing.”
“Nope. You only get to pick because you have a black eye,” she replied imperiously.
They ended up staying in, watching 90s sitcom reruns and ordering in pizza. None of them brought up Kili’s “mugging” again that day, but Kili did catch Tauriel looking at him suspiciously on more than one occasion.

How to Choose the Right Bathroom Fixtures at Stores in Toronto
Choosing bathroom fixtures may seem like a small part of your renovation, but they have the power to transform your space. The right fixtures combine function and form, creating an aesthetic that reflects your style while serving your daily needs.
In a city like Toronto, where countless bathroom fixture stores offer a wide range of options, it’s important to know how to narrow down your choices. In this article, we'll walk you through everything you need to consider when selecting them.
Let’s get started.
What to Consider When Buying Bathroom Fixtures at Toronto Stores
Bathroom fixtures are the unsung heroes of your home’s design. They not only affect how your bathroom looks but also how it functions. Here are some things to consider when choosing bathroom fixtures at stores in Toronto.
Understanding Different Types of Fixtures
There are several key types of bathroom fixtures you’ll need to consider. These include:
Shower fixtures: Heads, mixers, and handheld options
Bathtub fixtures: Freestanding tubs, built-ins, and more
Sink fixtures: From vanity sinks to wall-mounted options
Toilet fixtures: High-efficiency, wall-mounted, and more
Each type of fixture has its own set of considerations, and understanding them is the first step to making a smart choice.
Key Considerations for Shower Fixtures in Toronto
When it comes to shower fixtures, there are many options available at shower fixture stores in Toronto. You'll need to consider both their form and function:
Showerheads: Rainfall, handheld, or massaging?
Water pressure: Do you need a fixture that boosts or adjusts pressure?
Style: Match the finish to the rest of your bathroom (chrome, brushed nickel, et cetera).
Bathtub Options: What to Look for at Bathtub Stores in Toronto
Your bathtub is the centrepiece of your bathroom, and there are many options at bathtub stores in Toronto. Consider these factors when shopping for one:
Size: Measure your space to determine if a standard, large, or corner tub fits best.
Material: Acrylic, fibreglass, and cast iron are common materials, each with different durability and maintenance needs.
Style: Freestanding tubs offer a luxurious feel, while built-in ones save space.
Don’t forget to account for any special features you want, like jets or ergonomic shapes for added comfort.
Sink and Faucet Fixtures: Choosing the Right Design
Your sink and faucet need to balance practicality with style.
Sink type: Pedestal, undermount, or vessel sinks are popular options.
Faucet type: Single handle, double handle, or touchless faucets each offer different user experiences.
Material and finish: Choose a durable material that complements your bathroom decor (stainless steel, brushed nickel, bronze, et cetera).
Budgeting: Balancing Quality and Cost
While it’s tempting to choose the most affordable option, remember that you often get what you pay for. Fixtures from well-known brands might cost more upfront but offer better longevity and warranties. Balance your budget by prioritizing fixtures you’ll use most, like showerheads and faucets, over less-used ones, like towel racks.
FAQ
1. What are the most popular materials for bathroom fixtures?
The most popular materials include chrome, brushed nickel, stainless steel, and brass. Each offers different advantages in terms of durability and appearance.
2. How can I save water with my bathroom fixtures?
Look for low-flow fixtures, energy-efficient showerheads and dual-flush toilets to conserve water without sacrificing performance.
3. Are luxury bathroom fixtures worth the extra cost?
Luxury fixtures often provide better durability and aesthetics. While they may cost more upfront, their longer lifespan and warranties can make them a better investment in the long run.
4. Can I install bathroom fixtures myself or should I hire a professional?
Installing bathroom fixtures can be done as a DIY project if you have plumbing experience.
However, for more complex installations like bathtubs or showers, it's often better to hire a professional. This ensures proper installation, avoids potential water damage, and often comes with a warranty for the work done.
5. How often should I replace my bathroom fixtures?
The lifespan of bathroom fixtures varies depending on the material and usage. On average, faucets and showerheads last about 10-15 years, while bathtubs can last 20-30 years with proper care. Regular maintenance can extend the life of your fixtures, but if they start leaking, rusting, or showing signs of wear, it may be time for a replacement.
Choosing the right bathroom fixtures from bathroom fixture stores in Toronto may seem like a daunting task, but with the right guidance, it can be a rewarding experience. Remember to balance style, function, and budget while keeping your unique needs in mind. Your bathroom should not only look good but also serve as a comfortable and functional space that meets your daily requirements.

Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Perfect Bathroom Fittings
When it comes to designing or renovating a bathroom, the fittings play a crucial role in both functionality and style. Whether you’re building a new home, remodeling an old bathroom, or simply upgrading your fixtures, choosing the right bathroom fittings can transform your space into a sanctuary of comfort and luxury. From faucets to showerheads, and towel racks to mirrors, every detail matters. This guide will help you navigate the myriad of options available and make informed decisions that align with your taste, budget, and needs.
1. Understanding the Essentials
The first step in selecting bathroom fittings is understanding the essentials. These include:
Faucets and Taps: Available in various styles like wall-mounted, deck-mounted, and floor-standing, faucets are not just functional but also add to the aesthetic appeal of your bathroom.
Showerheads: From rain showers to handheld models, the type of showerhead you choose can significantly impact your shower experience.
Toilets and Bidets: Modern toilets come with features like water-saving flush systems and heated seats. Bidets are also gaining popularity for their hygiene benefits.
Bathtubs and Sinks: Whether you prefer a freestanding tub or an under-mount sink, the choices are vast. Material selection is equally important, ranging from porcelain to natural stone.
2. Choosing the Right Materials
The materials of your bathroom fittings affect not only their appearance but also their durability. Common materials include:
Brass: Known for its durability and resistance to corrosion, brass is a popular choice for faucets and showerheads.
Stainless Steel: A sleek, modern option, stainless steel is also rust-resistant and easy to clean.
Chrome: Chrome fittings offer a shiny, reflective finish that is easy to maintain.
Ceramic: Ideal for sinks and toilets, ceramic is durable and available in various designs.
Choosing materials that resist moisture and corrosion ensures that your fittings will look good and function well for years to come.
3. Design and Style Considerations
Your bathroom’s design should reflect your personal style while ensuring practicality. Here are some popular styles:
Contemporary: Characterized by clean lines, minimalistic designs, and modern finishes like chrome or matte black.
Traditional: Features ornate details, classic shapes, and warm finishes like brushed nickel or antique brass.
Industrial: Utilizes raw materials like exposed pipes, brick, and distressed finishes for a rugged yet stylish look.
Mixing and matching these styles can create a unique and personalized bathroom space.
4. The Role of Technology
Innovations in bathroom fittings have introduced smart technology, making your bathroom experience more convenient and luxurious:
Smart Showers: Control water temperature, pressure, and even play music through integrated Bluetooth speakers.
Automatic Faucets: Equipped with sensors, these faucets help conserve water and reduce the spread of germs.
Heated Towel Rails: Keep your towels warm and toasty, adding a touch of luxury to your daily routine.
Incorporating smart technology can elevate your bathroom to a spa-like experience.
5. Budgeting for Bathroom Fittings
Bathroom fittings come in a wide price range. It’s essential to balance your desire for luxury with your budget. Here are some tips:
Prioritize Essentials: Invest more in high-use items like faucets and showerheads.
Look for Deals: Consider sales, discounts, or bulk purchasing options.
Think Long-Term: Spending a bit more on durable materials and timeless designs can save money in the long run.
Remember, the most expensive option isn’t always the best; focus on quality and functionality first.
6. Sustainable Choices
As environmental awareness grows, sustainable bathroom fittings are becoming increasingly popular. Look for:
Water-saving Faucets and Showerheads: Reduce water consumption without sacrificing performance.
Eco-friendly Materials: Opt for fittings made from recycled or sustainable materials.
Low-flow Toilets: Use less water per flush, helping to conserve water and lower utility bills.
Sustainable fittings not only benefit the environment but can also enhance the efficiency of your home.
A Note on Construction
When planning for new bathroom fittings, it’s essential to consider the construction phase. Whether you’re working on a new build or a renovation, the home construction process lays the foundation for your bathroom’s functionality and aesthetics. Proper plumbing and electrical work are critical to ensure that all fittings operate smoothly. It’s important to work with skilled contractors who understand the nuances of bathroom construction, from waterproofing to ventilation. Additionally, thoughtful construction planning can prevent costly changes later on and help ensure that your bathroom fittings are installed precisely where and how you want them.
Conclusion
Selecting the right bathroom fittings is a vital part of creating a space that’s not only functional but also reflective of your style. By considering materials, design, technology, and sustainability, you can make informed decisions that will enhance your bathroom for years to come. Remember, thoughtful planning and construction are key to ensuring that your vision becomes a reality.

Affordable Bathroom Renovation Ideas: Stylish Solutions for Every Budget in Eltham
Are you dreaming of a bathroom makeover but worried about the costs? Bathroom renovations can often seem daunting, especially when trying to stay within a budget. However, with a bit of creativity and strategic planning, you can achieve a stunning transformation without breaking the bank. Whether you're in Eltham or any other suburb, these affordable bathroom renovation ideas will help you create a stylish, functional space that suits your budget.
1. Plan Your Budget Wisely
Before diving into any renovation, it's crucial to set a realistic budget. Determine how much you're willing to spend and prioritize the changes that will have the most significant impact. For example, you might decide that updating the flooring and fixtures will give you the most bang for your buck. By planning ahead, you can allocate funds wisely and avoid any unexpected expenses.
2. Refresh with Paint
One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to give your bathroom a new look is with a fresh coat of paint. Choose a light, neutral color to make the space feel larger and more inviting. If you're feeling adventurous, consider adding an accent wall with a bold color or patterned wallpaper. Remember to use moisture-resistant paint designed for bathrooms to prevent mold and mildew growth.
3. Upgrade Fixtures and Hardware
Swapping out old fixtures and hardware is a simple yet impactful change. Replacing faucets, showerheads, towel racks, and drawer pulls can instantly modernize your bathroom. Look for stylish, affordable options at your local hardware store or online. Brushed nickel, matte black, and brass finishes are popular choices that can add a touch of elegance without a hefty price tag.
4. Reimagine Your Storage Solutions
Clutter can make even the most beautiful bathrooms look chaotic. Reorganize your space with new storage solutions that are both functional and stylish. Consider installing floating shelves, wall-mounted cabinets, or a vanity with built-in storage. Baskets and decorative boxes can also help keep smaller items organized while adding texture and warmth to your bathroom.
5. Revamp Your Vanity
The vanity is often the focal point of the bathroom, and updating it can make a significant difference in the overall look and feel. If replacing your vanity isn't in the budget, consider painting the existing one and updating the hardware. Another cost-effective option is to replace the countertop with a more modern material, such as quartz or granite remnants, which can often be found at a discount.
6. Opt for Affordable Flooring Solutions
Flooring can be one of the more expensive aspects of a bathroom renovation, but there are budget-friendly alternatives. Vinyl and laminate flooring have come a long way in recent years and now offer a wide range of styles that mimic the look of wood or tile. These materials are not only affordable but also durable and water-resistant, making them ideal for bathrooms.
7. Refresh Your Shower or Tub Area
Upgrading your shower or tub area can make a huge impact on the overall look of your bathroom. Consider re-grouting tiles to give them a clean, fresh appearance. If your budget allows, you might opt for a new showerhead or a sleek glass door. For a more budget-friendly option, replace an old shower curtain with a new one in a stylish pattern or color.
8. Add Stylish Accessories
Sometimes, the smallest details can have the biggest impact. Adding new accessories such as a chic mirror, stylish soap dispenser, or fresh towels can elevate the look of your bathroom. Choose accessories that complement your new color scheme and fixtures. Plants, artwork, and decorative items can also add personality and warmth to your space.
9. Consider Energy-Efficient Upgrades
While energy-efficient upgrades might require an initial investment, they can save you money in the long run. Consider installing a low-flow toilet, water-saving showerhead, or LED lighting. Not only are these options better for the environment, but they can also reduce your utility bills over time.
10. Don’t Overlook the Lighting
Lighting plays a crucial role in creating the right ambiance in your bathroom. Consider replacing outdated light fixtures with modern, energy-efficient options. Layer your lighting with a combination of task lighting, such as vanity lights, and ambient lighting, like wall sconces or pendant lights. This will not only brighten your space but also add a touch of sophistication.
11. DIY Where You Can
If you're handy, consider taking on some of the renovation tasks yourself. Painting, installing shelves, or even re-grouting tiles are projects that can be done with a little bit of research and some elbow grease. By tackling these tasks on your own, you can save a significant amount on labor costs.
12. Shop Smart for Materials
When it comes to purchasing materials, shop around to find the best deals. Check out local hardware stores, online marketplaces, and even second-hand shops for discounted items. Sometimes, slightly damaged or discontinued products can be purchased at a fraction of the cost and still provide a high-end look.
Conclusion
Renovating your bathroom on a budget doesn't mean compromising on style or quality. With careful planning, smart shopping, and a bit of creativity, you can transform your bathroom into a beautiful and functional space. Whether you're updating a small powder room or a full master bath in Eltham, these affordable bathroom renovation ideas will help you achieve a stylish, budget-friendly makeover that you'll love for years to come.
