Blood Loss

The blood flowed down coloring the water red and reminding her of her of the batter that was still at hand. Frozen in a state of paralyzed anticipation she saw the blade of her enemy once again rushing at her with surprising velocity. Was this it? Would this be the final blow that ended her existence? Reality struck like lightning and she jumped back barely evading the tip of the blood greedy weapon. "Give up human" the demon spat at her. "I will not yield to the likes of you!" She spat back. In a rush of adrenaline and panic she grabbed the blade bare handed. She gripped tightly and felt the warmth of her own life blood seeping through her fingers. It was a desperate and last effort move but it worked. She clamped the flat of the blade underneath her armpit and twisted in such a fashion that the demon's grip was lost. With a speed that astonished the now weaponless creature she let the blade drop, caught it by the handle mid air, and plunged it deep into the torso of the astonished gargoyle. Both human and demon fell to the ground, one continued its descent into hell and the other rose to tend her wounds. The battle had been won but the war was far from over and there was much work to be done. But for now she had to heal, she would be no use to anyone if she bled to death now. "How ironic that would be" she thought to herself. It gave her a kind of satisfaction watching the blood flow knowing it wasn't shed in vain, knowing there was one less demon to haunt her.
