TLOVM Watch Party EP 3 Summary
- De Rolo Daddy was played by Taliesin
- Matt: so weird they use his original design for the VM Emon keep
- Playfulness and rivalries between characters were important to establish, dick tap and ball tag were essential (lol)
- Foreign dubs for this show are incredible
- The evening wear is SO good and Phil Bourassa made multiple options for the ladies
- Another Matt Mercer NPC sighting!
- Scanlan's rainbow crotch piece was Sam's choice, of course
- Briarwoods' design is pretty dead on as Matt imagined, even Laura and Travis's Halloween cosplay of them (except for the sunglasses)
- Allura and Kima are such a cute couple with their coordinated outfits!
- Keyleth's reactions are perfect and adorable
- Vex has a fan! Of course, she wants to show off that she's money
- The Vax ponytail is choice, chef's kiss
- Simon!
- Silas' eye color shift is supposed to be subtle
- Grey Griffin, Delilah's VA is brilliant and great at voicing her, she thanked them for giving her a fun role
- Everybody wants the Briarwood's cool chest, and also the pie
- Percy's anime fishbowl lens and the glasses reflection is so good!
- The Vax and Briarwoods scene is burned into their minds, and was so cool to see on screen, every beat is perfect
- Vax is so cute, he's a hottie (yes, glad we all agree)
- Sam's Brother-In-Law and him did Scanlan's Beads of Love and worked on a lot of the music, sending voice notes back and forth
- Everyone talks about how hot the Briarwoods and Vax scene is
- The fight with the Briarwoods is very well done and all the sounds and effects make it amazing, and it's so well-directed
- They love how badly this fight goes for Vox Machina, it's real stakes
- The camera work in the fight feels visceral and real, and it was not easy to do
- Keyleth is the most powerful one (nature magic users are broken!) but she still doesn't know how to use her magic
- Percy is hot and sexy, the gun reload animation is hot too
- Don't make Keyleth cry!
- Scanlan is a little douchebag and he's covered in whipped cream, they hope.
Q&A:
Q: The Vax and Briarwood scene, first - how dare you, second - what the fuck, third - what was it like creating and voicing this iconic character?
Matt: Loves the Briarwoods and had to vie for the role of Sylas (Sam: it was a given that Matt would voice him) We wanted Sylas to be like a feral beast of the night, so he got to be more muscled and powerful, wolf-like almost
Q: The Briarwood fight scene!
Brandon: The board artists killed it, we barely had to change anything
Sam: Most of the storyboard team have mostly worked in children's animation, so the characters were just getting bumped or falling over but we were like "HURT US! Make it look really bad" and by the time episode 3 came around they were like "You want us to fuck up your characters? Okay, we'll fuck up your characters"
We watch the first draft animatic of the "Your soul is forfeit" scene (sorry didn't have screen record prepped!)
Matt: Working on this is a homecoming because I grew up wanting to be an animator
Q: How did you condense all that important info into a 22 minute episode?
Matt: Carefully
Travis: We had to condense The Briarwoods Arc from 35 to 40 hours to 6 hours, so we decided on what are the important things we need to keep for future storylines and episodes
Matt: What are the favorite beats that show essence of the things not included are still carried forward? That's what we focused on
Q: Favorite easter eggs?
Everyone: Matt's NPCs, and there are many Doors throughout the season
We can't wait for everyone to watch the next 3 episodes, this batch is the best one, Ep 4 is a favorite
Q: What was it like to see your characters animated for the first time?
Travis: Watching even the initial chicken scratch animatics was great, we were freaking out and being emotional after together, it was very special, a dream come true
Q: Let's talk more about the music, and Sam's songs!
Sam: Lots of demos of weird rhymes and gross stuff and fun that I hope to share with everyone one day, the VM song was too long at first but they loved it
Sam sings Beads of Love live!!!

2019 American League Central Preview
Chicago White Sox (62-100) in 2018.
Additions: Ivan Nova RHP, Manny Banuelos LHP, Kelvin Herrera RHP, Alex Colome RHP, James McCann C, Yonder Alonso 1B, Jon Jay OF, Ervin Santana RHP.
Subtractions: Omar Narvaez C (SEA), Kevan Smith C (LAA), Matt Davidson 1B/3B (TEX), Avisail Garcia OF (TB), Ryan LaMarre OF (ATL), Miguel Gonzalez RHP (FA), James Shields RHP (FA), and Danny Farquhar (NYY)
The Chicago White Sox keep rebuilding, but they are going to be somewhat improved this year. The White Sox lineup should be a good one with some well-known names like Jose Abreu, Yonder Alonso, and Tim Anderson. The Sox are waiting for Yoan Moncada and Eloy Jimenez to emerge on the scene. Daniel Palka had a great 2018 and the Sox are hoping for it to continue. He has always had power and it shows up big time in that ballpark. Chicago has a young rotation with Reynaldo Lopez, Lucas Giolito, and Carlos Rodon. Ivan Nova is a nice addition to provide a veteran presence. Michael Kopech is out for the season with Tommy John Surgery, which hurts the team moving forward. The bullpen is much improved with Alex Colome, Kelvin Herrera, Nate Jones, and Jace Fry, If they can stay healthy then the Sox should be a decent team all year.
Cleveland Indians (91-71) in 2018.
Additions: Jon Edwards RHP, Kevin Plawecki C, Brad Miller IF, Carlos Santana 1B/DH, Jake Bauers 1B/OF, Jordan Luplow OF, Chih-Wei Hu RHP,
Subtractions: Michael Brantley OF (HOU), Erik Gonzalez IF (PIT), Cody Allen RHP (LAA), Andrew Miller LHP (STL), Rajai Davis OF (FA), Melky Cabrera OF (PIT), Edwin Encarnacion 1B/DH (SEA), Yan Gomes C (WSH).
The Cleveland Indians lost some talent from their three-time defending American League teams. They lost some big names like Michael Brantley, Andrew Miller, Cody Allen, Edwin Encarnacion, and Yan Gomes. The Tribe didn’t do much to replace those guys. They added Carlos Santana to replace Edwin Encarnacion. The bullpen didn’t get much for reinforcements. Tyler Olsen, Dan Otero, Adam Cimber, and Neil Ramirez will all have more high leverage roles to set-up Brad Hand. I think the bullpen will be the key to the Indians season. Cleveland also has injuries to Francisco Lindor, Jason Kipnis, and possibly Jose Ramirez to start the year. They need a decent start to stave off the Twins in the division.
Detroit Tigers (64-98) in 2018.
Additions: Matt Moore LHP, Tyson Ross RHP, Josh Harrison 2B, Gordon Beckham IF, Jordy Mercer SS, Dustin Peterson OF.
Subtractions: Jim Aducci 1B/OF (CHC), Jose Iglesias SS (CIN), Victor Martinez DH (Retired), Alex Wilson RHP (MIL), Francisco Liriano LHP (PIT).
Ron Gardenhire got the Tigers off to a decent start last year before injuries and sub-par play plagued the rest of the season. The Tigers lost 98 games and are still rebuilding in 2018. Detroit made some changes this offseason. They non-tendered Jose Iglesias and signed Jordy Mercer to replace him. Josh Harrison will take over second base for the Tigers as well. Victor Martinez retired after a great career, so the team still doesn’t have a normal designated hitter. Niko Goodrum emerged as a star player for the Tigers. He hit 16 homers last year and will play around the whole field this year again. Michael Fulmer appears to be out for the year with Tommy John surgery. Mathew Boyd will need to fill his shoes. Tyson Ross and Matt Moore were added as reclamation projects. The Tigers should win a few more games, but that’s because Ron Gardenhire knows how to motivate his young players. It’ll be another long summer in Detroit.
Kansas City Royals (58-104) in 2018.
Additions: Martin Maldonado C, Lucas Duda 1B, Chris Owings IF, Billy Hamilton OF, Jake Diekman LHP, Brad Boxberger RHP,
Subtractions: Alcides Escobar SS (CWS), Paulo Orlando OF (LAD), Rosell Herrera OF (MIA), Blaine Boyer RHP (FA), Brandon Maurer RHP (PIT)
The Kansas City Royals are in the middle of a massive rebuild after two World Series runs this decade. Alcides Escobar is gone and only a few players remain from those great Royals team. Salvador Perez needed Tommy John surgery and is out for the entire season. That made the Royals sign Martin Maldonado to replace him. Lucas Duda was signed after the Twins released him in spring training to provide some pop in this lineup. Alex Gordon is still on the team and Billy Hamilton is an interesting addition. You think of all the old speedsters for the Royals in the 80′s and now they have Billy Hamilton. Vince Coleman, Willie Wilson, and Lonnie Smith. Billy Hamilton should provide some entertainment for Royals fans. Kansas City doesn’t have much pitching this year. Scott Barlow is a solid emerging pitcher to go along with Danny Duffy, Brad Keller, and Jake Junis in the starting rotation. Brad Boxberger and Jake Diekman help solidify a bullpen with Wily Peralta and Kevin McCarthy. The Royals are in for another tough year in Kansas City.
Minnesota Twins (78-84) in 2018.
Additions: Blake Parker RHP, Martin Perez LHP, Ryne Harper RHP, CJ Cron 1B, Marwin Gonzalez IF, Nelson Cruz DH, Ronald Torreyes IF,
Subtractions: Joe Mauer 1B (Retired), Chris Gimenez (Retired), Logan Forsythe 2B (TEX), Logan Morrison 1B (FA), Johnny Field OF (CHC), Matt Belisle RHP (FA), Alan Busenitz RHP (Japan), Oliver Drake RHP (TB), Ervin Santana RHP (CWS), Gregorio Petit IF (FA).
The Minnesota Twins are poised again to make a run at the Cleveland Indians in a putrid American League Central in 2019. They added big names like Nelson Cruz, CJ Cron, and Marwin Gonzalez to bolster their offense, who lost Joe Mauer and a few others in trade deadline deals in 2018. The offense should have no problem as Byron Buxton looks to get to superstar form after a terrible 2018 season. The lineup is not the question mark, but the pitching staff has some uncertainty heading into 2019. Can Jose Berrios continue to grow as the Twins ace? Can Kyle Gibson bounce back from an E-Coli illness this offseason? Michael Pineda and Martin Perez both looked sharp this spring and might be great additions to the rotation. The bullpen has a ton of good arms, but nothing too great. Blake Parker, Taylor Rogers, Trevor Hildenberger, Trevor May, and Addison Reed should form a well-rounded bullpen. Ryne Harper looked great as a potential long man. If the Twins contend then pitching will be better than we think.

Leipold’s Buffalo should have a reset 2019 amid the breakthrough
Buffalo will be led by high-upside sophomores in 2019. That probably says great things about 2020.
By the end of 2018, Leipold had done most of what he had set out to do when he left comfortable surroundings for an unfamiliar venture.
At the age of 50, having just won his sixth Division III title in eight years at Wisconsin-Whitewater, Leipold had jumped to the MAC. He had spent two seasons stripping the Bulls down to the studs, but late in a rickety third season — lose two in a row, win three in a row, lose four in a row — things clicked. And it very much continued in year four.
After winning the last three games of 2017, Buffalo went 10-2 in the 2018 regular season, winning the MAC East and surging to a 29-10 lead over NIU in the conference title game. The Bulls had a sound defense — it peaked at 61st in Def. S&P+ — and an offense loaded with star power in the form of quarterback Tyree Jackson, receivers Anthony Johnson and K.J. Osborn, and All-MAC center James O’Hagan. All the foundation work, culture building, and talent identification was paying off.
After starting 10-23 in Buffalo, Leipold had won 13 of 15 and was on the doorstep of a conference title.
Now he has to realize the vision all over again. And for about 16 minutes longer.
The Bulls went into cruise control offensively after going up 19 points in the MAC Championship, and they couldn’t shift out of it. The Huskies scored the final 20 and won, 30-29. UB lost a fun Dollar General Bowl to Troy — no shame there — and then lost Johnson and O’Hagan to graduation, Jackson to early NFL draft declaration, and Osborn to grad transfer. (He’s a Miami Hurricane now.)
The defense, which had slipped to 83rd in Def. S&P+, retains some star power, but its two-deep got Thanos’d: three of the top five defensive linemen, two of three linebackers, and three of five defensive backs are all gone.
Leipold and Buffalo aren’t completely starting over. The culture is roughly in place. He’s still got a sturdy offensive line and exciting sophomores — running backs Jaret Patterson and Kevin Marks, receiver Charlie Jones, linebacker James Patterson, cornerback Aapri Washington, etc.
But with the way 2018 ended, UB fans are probably clamoring for an immediate do-over and another MAC run, and it might take a season of repair work before that happens.
Offense
Life with Tyree Jackson was a roller coaster. His footwork betrayed him at times. His arm angle would slouch, and despite his 6’7 stature, he’d throw like he was about 6’2. He’d willingly scramble out of the pocket on a play-making quest.
Jackson would sometimes slip into a rut — he went a combined 19-for-45 for 268 yards, one touchdown, and two picks in blowout losses to Army and Ohio, and his completion rate was 51 percent or lower in six of 14 games.
Those quests would frequently pay off, though. Buffalo did rank 10th in Passing S&P+, after all. Jackson was behind center for UB’s first 10-win season, and his success will be a recruiting tool.
But you have to think coordinator Andy Kotelnicki isn’t absolutely dreading life without him, you know? Jackson’s replacement will almost certainly have lower upside, but if that’s offset by better stability, maybe that’s a trade Leipold and Kotelnicki are willing to make. That’s the positive spin, anyway.
Barring a grad transfer, UB will be choosing from among a foursome of big (but not 6’7) replacements:
Junior Kyle Vantrease (6’3, 230, former three-star recruit), who saw a few snaps in reserve time last year but attempted only nine passes. In his only sustained action — filling in for an injured Jackson for two games in 2017 — he was no more consistent, going 25-for-57 against NIU and Miami (Ohio).
Junior Dominic Johnson (6’5, 220, unrated recruit), an Ontario product who also saw a handful of snaps and threw two passes — one to his team and one to the opponent.
Redshirt freshman Matt Myers (6’4, 220, two-star recruit), a state champ from nearby West Seneca who showed well in fall camp.
Incoming freshman Trevor Bycznski (6’5, 230, three-star recruit), who threw for 3,500 yards at Berea-Midpark High outside of Cleveland.
Kotelnicki will have to choose between two juniors with knowledge of the system and two youngsters with big arms and upside. They tasked Jackson with starting as a redshirt freshman back in 2016, so it wouldn’t be unheard of if they went young.
Whoever they choose will have a sturdy run game to lean on.
John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports
Jarret Patterson
After a slow start to Jarret Patterson’s freshman season (19 carries for 71 yards in his first three games) the former gray shirt (he committed in the 2017 class but didn’t enroll until January 2018), erupted for 104 yards and two scores against Rutgers and barely looked back. The 5’9, 195-pounder was nearly as important to UB’s division title run as Jackson — in the Bulls’ last seven wins of the year, he averaged 6.4 yards per carry and 111 yards per game and scored 11 touchdowns.
In their four losses: 3.8 yards per carry, 41 yards per game, two touchdowns.
Patterson split time with Kevin Marks, another true freshman who played the role of short-yardage back. Though neither was incredibly explosive, they combined for a 46 percent success rate.
The line loses O’Hagan but is scheduled to return five players a combined 87 career starts, including a pair of potentially dynamite tackles in Evin Ksiezarczyk and Kayode Awosika. This isn’t a huge line, but to my eye, the Bulls’ run game was built primarily around zone blocking (which requires less size) and one-cut-and-go running. It worked pretty well.
Charlie Jones
UB was a pretty run-heavy team in 2018 despite the star power in the passing game. The Bulls rushed 60 percent of the time on standard downs (right at the national average) and 42 percent on passing downs (well above). That was a stylistic choice, but it might be a necessity this time. In Johnson, Osborn, and George Rushing, they must replace a combined 132 receptions, 2,090 yards, and 22 touchdowns.
There are at least a couple of exciting options in the receiving corps. Tight end Tyler Mabry (27 catches, two touchdowns) was the most efficient target, and in Charlie Jones, UB might have another star. His route tree was similar to Johnson’s, and his per-target production was even better. He averaged 21.9 yards per catch over 18 receptions and played an explosive role in big games — he had three catches for 63 yards against Temple, one for 53 against Rutgers, two for 53 against Army, and two for 57 against Toledo.
Jones’ success might be tied to whether other receiving options emerge. There are plenty of candidates. Junior Antonio Nunn saw plenty of action, sophomore Rodney Scott III and incoming freshman Trevor Solomon-Wilson are former star recruits, and Leipold brought in two JUCOs in Daniel Lee and Larry Rembert Jr. If the run game is steady, and opponents have more than one WR to fear, Jones could have a huge year.
Defense
The Pattersons might become program-defining signees for UB. And they were grayshirts! While Jarret was helping to establish the Buffalo run game, his stockier brother James was leading the Bulls’ defense with nine tackles for loss and four forced fumbles from the linebacker position. His presence, alongside junior ends Taylor Riggins and Malcolm Koonce (combined: 10.5 TFLs, eight sacks), means the defense could still have a proven attacking presence.
Depth was a key for coordinator Brian Borland’s front seven last year, and there’s less of it this time. Linebacker Khalil Hodge is gone, as are pass-rush specialist Chuck Harris and leading interior lineman Justin Brandon. But Patterson, Riggins, Koonce, and other younger players like sophomore linebacker Tim Terry Jr., sophomore tackle Eddie Wilson, and junior linebacker Kadofi Wright are exciting.
John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports
Tyrone Hill
Buffalo’s pass defense was aggressive and effective. The Bulls were fourth in passing marginal efficiency, 15th in completion rate allowed, and 25th in sack rate. The pass rush should still be strong, but losing corners Tatum Slack and Cameron Lewis (combined: five INTs, 10 breakups) hurts. Safeties Tyrone Hill and Joey Banks are still patrolling, and corner Aapri Washington looks like the real deal, but he’ll need a new dance partner.
The Bulls could stand to shore things up in run defense, too. Even with a ridiculously good run pursuer in Hodge, UB still ranked only 84th in rushing marginal efficiency. Guys like Patterson, Wright, and Wilson have loads of potential, but it might be difficult to improve without Hodge — the goal might be to just maintain last year’s numbers. If the pass defense slips, then, so will the overall numbers.
Special Teams
Buffalo posted both its best Off. S&P+ and Def. S&P+ ratings under Leipold in 2018. He has yet to figure out special teams. While up-and-down swings are semi-common, UB has established the wrong kind of consistency: 121st in Special Teams S&P+ in 2015, 121st in 2016, 123rd in 2017, 126th in 2018.
Charlie Jones provided some pop in the return game, but the legs were a problem. Buffalo ranked 122nd in punt efficiency, 107th in FG efficiency, and 101st in kickoff efficiency. The Bulls are in the market for a new place-kicker, and punter Evan Finegan was a freshman, so maybe there’s room for growth.

Just as any season with a new QB becomes a tossup, S&P+ sees all sorts of tossups on Buffalo’s schedule. Projected 97th overall, the Bulls are looking at four likely wins, one likely loss, and seven games projected within a touchdown.
So yeah, a favorable QB situation could flip a lot of games.
Whether Buffalo figures out its signal-caller right away or not, the Bulls are not starting from scratch. The floor was 2-10 when Jackson took over, and I don’t think it’s anywhere near that now. There’s just too much young talent, and it’s spread over just about every unit, from running back to receiver to the trenches to linebacker to the secondary.
Whether this is a “just eke out bowl eligibility” year or something more, we’ll probably know by the time conference play begins. The non-conference slate is a perfect set of tests: a nearly sure win against Robert Morris, a nearly sure loss against Penn State, and two relative tossups — a trip to Liberty and a visit from Temple. If the Bulls are 1-3, then 6-6 is the only goal. If they’re 3-1, they’re a MAC contender.
In 2020, they’ll probably be a MAC contender no matter what.

Middle infield rankings: Swinging away with Elvis Andrus in latest Shuffle Up
Elvis Andrus is having a season to shout about (AP)
Here are your middle-infield prices. We’re taking our best swing at 5×5 value from this point forward. No debating the hurt.
Players at the same price are considered even.
[Fantasy Football is open! Sign up now]
Any time you’re ready, Machado.
Remember the golden rule, no one loses or gains fantasy value just because they’re on your roster. And if you’re going to disagree, have a reason. This game is about disagreement to begin with, the difference of opinion.
Want to spike me at second base? Catch me on Twitter.
$33 Jose Altuve $30 Carlos Correa $25 Daniel Murphy $24 Robinson Cano $22 Corey Seager $22 Xander Bogaerts $22 Elvis Andrus $22 Trea Turner $22 Manny Machado
Plate discipline is nice, but it’s not everything. Andrus’s career years has come despite the lowest walk rate and the worst strikeout rate of his career. But he’s on pace for .292-95-17-87-37, and this is someone who’s never hit double-digit home runs before. Sometimes being aggressive is actually the right answer . . . It’s a shame Bogaerts plays in Fenway Park, where stolen bases don’t have a tremendous value, because he could steal a lot more often if he wanted to. He’s actually the highest-rated base runner in the American League, per fWAR.
$21 Eduardo Nunez $21 Dee Gordon $19 Brian Dozier $19 Matt Carpenter $19 Francisco Lindor $17 Jedd Gyorko $17 Zack Cozart $17 Starlin Castro $15 Rougned Odor $15 Jonathan Schoop
Castro came up at such a young age, it’s easy to forget he’s still just 27. Here’s a case of a breakout being more standard — Castro has upped his walks, trimmed his strikeouts, improved his hard-hit rate. And being in the loaded, deep Yankees lineup is a boost as well . . . I have to give Odor a little more time to break out of this; at least he has four homers this month . . . While I feel justified moving Lindor down this list, he could be a good buy-low, too. His BABIP sits at .259 despite an increase in hard-hit rate. Those two directions don’t make sense.
$14 Marwin Gonzalez $14 *Jean Segura $14 Ian Kinsler $14 DJ LeMahieu $14 Jose Ramirez $14 Jose Peraza $13 Hernan Perez $13 Didi Gregorius $13 Whit Merrifield $12 Chris Taylor $12 Josh Harrison $12 Javier Baez $12 Jason Kipnis $12 Dustin Pedroia
It might be the empty-average stage of Pedroia’s career; given his body attrition, it doesn’t make sense for him to run any more, and he’s lost a major share of his power, too. Being in the Boston lineup has value, of course, and Pedroia will still give you a reasonable average. But if you have designs on winning, he better be your middle infielder, not your primary 2B . . . Merrifield finally got his just promotion to the leadoff spot, and while the Royals offense will never be great, it’s at least been league average in June. If it doesn’t work out for Merrifield, he can always go back to Duke and play point guard.
$11 Tim Beckham $11 Jed Lowrie $11 Chris Owings $11 Andrelton Simmons $11 Trevor Story $11 Ben Zobrist $10 Brandon Phillips $10 *Jonathan Villar $9 Howie Kendrick $9 Dansby Swanson $9 Aledmys Diaz
Story looks like a guy who’s lost his feel for the zone and his confidence, too. His line-drive clip has plummeted, and he’s making less contact. Any spot in the Colorado lineup is a favorable thing, but he’s probably going to slot seventh for most of the year.
$7 Jose Pirela $7 Brandon Drury $7 Yangervis Solarte $6 Wilmer Flores $6 Eric Sogard $6 Brandon Crawford $6 Adam Frazier $5 Tim Anderson $5 Kolten Wong $5 Addison Russell $4 Troy Tulowitzki $4 Logan Forsythe $4 *Neil Walker
Last year Tulowitzki turned into a guess hitter. This year, he’s making better contact but the power is completely gone. You have my permission to move on, if it makes sense to you . . . If Wong’s on a different team next year, make sure he’s on your sleeper list. They’ve messed his head up in St. Louis.
$3 Yolmer Sanchez $3 T.J. Rivera $3 Jordy Mercer $3 Eduardo Escobar $2 Scooter Gennett $3 Derek Dietrich $2 Chase Utley $2 Chad Pinder $2 Orlando Arcia $2 Nick Ahmed $2 Jorge Polanco $2 Joe Panik $2 J.T. Riddle $2 Ian Happ $2 Enrique Hernandez $2 Cory Spangenberg $2 *Devon Travis $2 *Cesar Hernandez $2 *Asdrubal Cabrera $1 Taylor Motter $1 Steve Pearce $1 Jurickson Profar $1 Josh Rutledge $1 Jose Iglesias $1 J.J. Hardy $1 Daniel Descalso $1 Alexi Amarista $1 Alcides Escobar $1 *Brad Miller $0 Jose Reyes $0 Freddy Galvis $0 Danny Espinosa

(Shine Championship #1 Contender's Survival Rumble)
Shine are back in Ybor City, Florida and... is that the whole card? Nope! The deal here is the winner of this Survival Rumble will go on to wrestle Shine Champion LuFisto at Shine 48 and matches will be made based on eliminations in the Rumble to fill out the remainder of this show. It's innovative, if nothing else, I suppose. Along with the first Shine Champion, Rain, is back out of retirement, which is great news! (Do note that the number of ??? Entrants I've added there is arbitrary; WWN have said more will be added, not that it will always be a 20-woman Rumble.)
Get your tickets here or check it out on iPPV at .
Free matches!
Candice LeRae vs. Kimber Lee
From the fine folks over at Women's Wrestling Revolution Pro, we have action with shades of the Mae Young Classic! Abbey Laith takes on Candice Wrestling in a past life, check it out!
Darby Allin vs. Josh Briggs
From the good people over at Limitless Wrestling we have a clash of up-and-comers. Darby Allin burst onto the scene from out of nowhere in Evolve over a year ago as a daredevil who has not yet fulfilled the thing he is not willing to jump off of and Briggs has just erupted onto my radar as a hugely athletic big man so hey, check it out and get yourself a new favorite, right?
CWF Mid-Atlantic Worldwide Ep. #135
I reckon it's time we checked in on our pals over at CWF again because they have a doozy of a hoot lined up for us tonight as national treasure White Mike takes on CWF Heavyweight Champion Trevor Lee in a non-title match! When you haven't seen Mike in action, you are in for a treat, folks.
Results
MLW Never Say Never (December 7)
"Whoa hey, Rev, what's this? No results again? What are you tryin' to pull here?!"
Well, I'm trying to pull the same thing that I did the last time I did so, which is to say that MLW have published this whole show free for nothin' on YouTube! Don't let me spoil you, check it out here--
RPW Uprising 2018 (December 8)
Kurtis Chapman over David Starr, El Phantasmo, "Flash" Morgan Webster (c), and Ryan Smile to acquire the RPW British Cruiserweight Championship
Jinny over Martina
Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate) (c) over Josh Bodom & Zack Gibson to keep the RPW British Tag Team Championship
Cody Rhodes (c) over Jay Lethal to retain the ROH World Championship
Pete Dunne over Eddie Dennis
Martin Stone over Dave Mastiff
Zack Sabre, Jr. (c) over Matt Riddle to keep the RPW British Heavyweight Championship
Bullet Club (Marty Scurll, Matt Jackson, & Nick Jackson) over #CCK (Chris Brookes & Travis Banks) & Flip Gordon
RevPro closed out their year with a bang as up-and-comer Chapman rose above the fray to become Cruiserweight Champion. Plus Cody retained the ROH title and left programs for Final Battle intact thanks to (or perhaps despite) some interference from Scurll, and while Eddie Dennis' losing streak continues he may not be carried out in RevPro just yet, as Rob Lias attacked him after his match.
Plus, we've already got a big match made for High Stakes next year, as Zack Sabre, Jr. cut a promo after his match saying he's defended against everyone and wants to challenge, together with Minoru Suzuki, for the tag names.
Check it out on RPW On Demand, folks.
CZW Cage of Death 19 (December 9)
Storm of Entrails (Dan O'Hare & SHLAK) over Blackwater, G-Raver, John Silver, Kody Rice, & Shane Sabre to win the Ultimate Opportunity Coin
Matt Tremont over Jimmy Lloyd (Thumbtack Massacre Deathmatch)
Mr. Claxton over Alex Colon
David Starr over "All Ego" Ethan Page
The REP (Dave McCall & Nate Carter) over Alex Reynolds & Dan Barry, OI4K (Dave & Jake Crist), and Scarlet and Graves (Dezmond Xavier & Zachary Wentz) (c) to win the CZW World Tag Team Championship
Nick "Magnus" Aldis over Tim Storm (c) to win the NWA World's Heavyweight Championship
Jimmy Jacobs over Jimmy Havoc
Chrissy Rivera & Greg Excellent over Ace Romero
Maxwell Jacob Friedman over Joey Janela (c) to win the CZW Wired Championship
Rickey Shane Page (c) over "Chainsaw" Joe Gacy and Shane Strickland to retain the CZW World Heavyweight Championship (Cage of Death)
Well, we covered one bit of big news in the show elsewhere on the website, so I will skip over that and break down the rest of what's interesting here. Danny Havoc returned to the Combat Zone to beat on Conor Claxton after his match, DJ Hyde declared Will Ospreay for their WrestleMania weekend show, MJF's victory means that Joey Janela's Wired Championship reign never happened, but he paid dearly for it as Penelope Ford at long last rejoined forces with Joey.
And in the main event, Gacy's followers got involved, leading to a cavalcade of interference from the likes of Kit Osbourne, Dan Barry, and Anthony Gangone! At the same time, after the match, Nick Gage strolled through the crowd and into the cage for a confrontation which CZW do their best to scrub from the net. Work? Shoot? Together with the King, you never know!
Check it out on CZW Studios, folks.
Evolve 96 / 97 (December 9-10)
--Evolve 96 (December 9)--
Dominic Garrini over Joey Lynch
Kyle the Beast & Shane Mercer over Matt Knicks & Stevie Fierce
Jarek 1:20 over Stephen Wolf
Zack Sabre, Jr.. Over DJZ
AR Fox over Jason Kincaid
Darby Allin over Austin Theory
Grab Point (Jaka & "Hot Sauce" Tracy Williams) (c) vs. WorkHorsemen (Anthony Henry & James Drake) goes to a no competition (Evolve Tag Team Championship)
Matt Riddle over Fred Yehi (No Rope Breaks Match)
Keith Lee (c) over WALTER to keep the WWN Championship
--Evolve 97 (December 10)--
Dominic Garrini over Craig Mitchell
Matt Knicks & Stevie Fierce over Brandon Watts & Stephen Wolf
Jarek 1:20 vs. Jason Kincaid goes to a ten-minute time limit draw
WorkHorsemen (Anthony Henry & James Drake) over Kyle the Beast & Shane Mercer
AR Fox over DJZ
Darby Allin over Keith Lee and "Hot Sauce" Tracy Williams, earning the right to any match of his choosing in 2018
Austin Theory over Fred Yehi (c) to win the FIP World Heavyweight Championship
Matt Riddle over WALTER (No Rope Breaks Match)
Zack Sabre, Jr. (c) over Jaka to keep the Evolve World Championship
As always when I can point you to my recaps (Evolve 96, 97), I will do so and keep it short and sweet here, but suffice it to say, I believe the new format is a success. I could do without intermissions, but the preliminary matches are a cool way get some new talent in. In addition to the push for no rope rests is pretty sweet and is leading to some innovative stuff.
Check 'em out on , folks.
Beyond Cold Brew (December 10)
WALTER over David Starr
Brian Milonas & Cam Zagami over Anthony Greene & Brick Mastone by disqualification
Wheeler YUTA over Mike Verna (Tournament For Tomorrow 2017 Semifinal Match)
Amityville Project (Rex Lawless & Ryan Galeone) over American Gaijin (Jay Freddie & Rory Gulak)
AR Fox & Austin Theory over Brandon Watts & Zenshi
Ace Romero over Josh Briggs (Tournament For Tomorrow 2017 Semifinal Match)
Matt Riddle over Martin Stone
Darby Allin over John Silver
Keith Lee over Joey Janela
A couple injuries shuffled the card, but the show must go on and the Tournament For Tomorrow Finals are set with Ace Romero and Wheeler YUTA prepared to go head to head! And, as it turns out, Evolve is not the only place AR Fox has a posse, because the Watts/Zenshi team is finally done to get good, with Brandon turning on the erstwhile Shynron to hook up with Fox and Theory.
Check it out on Powerbomb.tv, folks.
Progress Chapter 59: Whatever People Say We Are, That's What We're Not (December 10)
Rampage Brown over Doug Williams
Chris Ridgeway over Adam Chase
Jack Sexsmith over Amir Jordan, Chief Deputy Dunne, Gabriel Kidd, Pastor William Eaver, Primate, Saxon Huxley, and Spike Trivet
Joseph Conners over Chuck Mambo
Chris Brookes over Matt Cross
Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson) (c) over Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis) to keep the Progress Tag Team Championship
Travis Banks (c) over Eddie Dennis to keep the Progress Championship
As always when I recap a show I will keep it short and sweet here in Sermon and mother of god, traveling issues from the weather really did a number on this one, didn't they? The show must go on, obviously, and while the lack of British Strong Mode, "Flash" Morgan Webster, and Mark Andrews is keenly felt a whole lot of new faces made to show their stuff and former champion Rampage Brown made his return!
Check it out when it hits Demand Progress, folks.
As always...
Remember folks, no matter which sort of wrestling you like, no matter how down you feel about the state of WWE, Impact, ROH, or any other "big-time" pro wrestling, there's something out there for you. There's a pro wrestling product that can hit you in the ideal spot and make you love wrestling as you thought you'd never have the ability to love it again. It's there, I promise. You just gotta reach out and find it, and that, my friends, is what the Sermon on the Mat is all about.

Each team's lineup if season started today
We're less than a month away from Spring Training, so it's a good time to project what each club's Opening Day lineup will look like, or at least what it would look like if the season started today. With the help of all 30 MLB.com beat writers, here's a roundup of how they might shake out.
AMERICAN LEAGUE EAST
Blue Jays Initially, the Jays will be looking for a healthy, bounce-back year from second baseman Devon Travis and continued growth from shortstop Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and left fielder Teoscar Hernandez to support a lineup anchored by first baseman Justin Smoak, right fielder Randal Grichuk and designated hitter Kendrys Morales. But at some point soon, the real fun begins when the next wave of Jays stars reach Toronto -- outfielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr., infielder Bo Bichette and catcher Danny Jansen are all expected to arrive in 2019. Jansen likely will start the season with the Jays, and the other two won't be far behind. -- Gregor Chisholm
LINEUP IF SEASON STARTED TODAY
1. Devon Travis, 2B 2. Justin Smoak, 1B 3. Kendrys Morales, DH 4. Randal Grichuk, RF 5. Teoscar Hernandez, LF 6. Kevin Pillar, CF 7. Brandon Drury, 3B 8. Danny Jansen, C 9. Lourdes Gurriel Jr., SS

Orioles For years, the Orioles were anchored by a core group of positions players who Buck Showalter would regularly arrange into one of baseball's most powerful offensive units. Now with the O's fully in rebuilding mode, the only guarantee about new manager Brandon Hyde's first lineup is that it will look very different.
Seven of the nine members of last year's Opening Day lineup are out of the organization, but the fact that dozens of free agents remain on the market gives the Orioles ample time to bolster a roster that, as of now, projects to be only a fraction as productive as it was a year ago. The current group could receive a boost if Mark Trumbo recovers from offseason knee surgery in time for late March. Top prospects Yusniel Diaz or Ryan Mountcastle could also play their way into the mix, should they impress enough in camp to crack the club's Opening Day roster. -- Joe Trezza
LINEUP IF SEASON STARTED TODAY
1. Cedric Mullins, CF 2. Jonathan Villar, 2B 3. Trey Mancini, DH 4. Chris Davis, 1B 5. DJ Stewart, RF 6. Renato Nunez, 3B 7. Joey Rickard, LF 8. Richie Martin, SS 9. Chance Sisco, C
Rays Due to the team's versatility, manager Kevin Cash will have a lot of quality options with his lineup card. Mallex Smith, who had a .357 on-base percentage in the leadoff spot in 2018, was traded to Seattle in November, which creates a hole at the top of the lineup for the Rays. With Smith gone, outfielder Kevin Kiermaier could be the first in line to get a crack at the leadoff spot. Kiermaier struggled at the plate to begin last season and then was sidelined for two months with a torn ligament in his right thumb. The 28-year-old outfielder finished the season with a .217 batting average, but had an encouraging end to his season, posting a .306/.371/.597 slash line in September.
In this lineup, Tommy Pham would hit third with designated hitter Ji-Man Choi hitting cleanup. In just 25 at-bats in the cleanup role last season, Choi posted a .450/.520/.850 slash line. Willy Adames and Yandy Diaz provide a good combination of contact and power in the fifth and sixth spots, while Meadows, who hit .250 in 10 games with the Rays last season, provides some power from the left-hand side in the seventh slot. Mike Zunino and Joey Wendle (or Daniel Robertson, depending on the pitcher) would round out the team's lineup. -- Juan Toribio
LINEUP IF SEASON STARTED TODAY
1. Kevin Kiermaier, CF 2. Matt Duffy, 3B 3. Tommy Pham, LF 4. Ji-Man Choi, DH 5. Willy Adames, SS 6. Yandy Diaz, 1B 7. Austin Meadows, RF 8. Mike Zunino, C 9. Joey Wendle, 2B
Red Sox The World Series champs are in the enviable position of returning their entire allotment of position players, except for Ian Kinsler. But there's good news on that front also, as the hope is that second baseman and veteran leader Dustin Pedroia can return to the lineup after missing all but three games last season due to a left knee injury.
This lineup is deep and balanced, with power and speed, and has the ability to put the ball in play consistently. Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez should again present major headaches to the opposition on a near nightly basis. Andrew Benintendi and Betts will be flip-flopped from their spots from a year ago, with the hope it will create more RBI opportunities for the latter. This could be a big growth year for the 22-year-old Rafael Devers. -- Ian Browne
LINEUP IF SEASON STARTED TODAY
1. Andrew Benintendi, LF 2. Mookie Betts, RF 3. J.D. Martinez, DH 4. Xander Bogaerts, SS 5. Mitch Moreland, 1B 6. Dustin Pedroia, 2B 7. Rafael Devers, 3B 8. Jackie Bradley Jr., CF 9. Christian Vazquez, C
Yankees One year after the Yankees became the first team to have a dozen players reach double digits in the home run department, the Bronx Bombers again appear primed to boast impressive power, even without adding a megastar like Manny Machado or Bryce Harper. The projected order skews heavily toward right-handed bats, which is odd considering Yankee Stadium's configuration, but most have the ability to power the ball to right-center field. Troy Tulowitzki will have first crack at shortstop, but DJ LeMahieu provides a capable option at second base, shortstop and third base. -- Bryan Hoch
LINEUP IF SEASON STARTED TODAY
1. Brett Gardner, LF 2. Aaron Judge, RF 3. Aaron Hicks, CF 4. Giancarlo Stanton, DH 5. Gary Sanchez, C 6. Miguel Andujar, 3B 7. Gleyber Torres, 2B 8. Luke Voit, 1B 9. Troy Tulowitzki, SS

AMERICAN LEAGUE CENTRAL
Indians The Indians' lineup will feature plenty of new names in 2019, but one familiar face will be back with the Tribe. After spending last season with the Phillies, Carlos Santana was traded to the Mariners briefly before coming back home to Cleveland in exchange for Edwin Encarnacion.
Despite the team's high turnover rate, Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez will return to the Indians' infield, providing leadership to the young roster. Both Ramirez and Lindor are coming off standout seasons, placing third and sixth in American League MVP voting, respectively. -- Mandy Bell
LINEUP IF SEASON STARTED TODAY
1. Francisco Lindor, SS 2. Jason Kipnis, 2B 3. Jose Ramirez, 3B 4. Carlos Santana, DH 5. Jake Bauers, 1B 6. Tyler Naquin, RF 7. Leonys Martin, CF 8. Jordan Luplow, LF 9. Roberto Perez, C
Video: Jose Ramirez is the No. 1 third baseman right now
Royals Of course, the big question regarding the batting order is where manager Ned Yost will fit in speedster Billy Hamilton, who primarily hit toward the bottom of the order while with the Reds. Yost could go for the speed trifecta at 9-1-2 with Hamilton hitting ninth, and then Whit Merrifield and Adalberto Mondesi at the top. -- Jeffrey Flanagan
LINEUP IF SEASON STARTED TODAY
1. Whit Merrifield, 2B 2. Adalberto Mondesi, SS 3. Alex Gordon, LF 4. Jorge Soler, DH 5. Salvador Perez, C 6. Ryan O'Hearn,1B 7. Hunter Dozier, 3B 8. Jorge Bonifacio, RF 9. Billy Hamilton, CF
Tigers The Tigers have work to do before they can put together a lineup of young talent to go with their promising pitching prospects. But their 2019 lineup shows some promise. With Jeimer Candelario at third base and Christin Stewart likely in left field, Detroit has a pair of young run producers. On the flip side, the Tigers get veteran Miguel Cabrera back after he missed most of last season due to biceps surgery. If Nicholas Castellanos isn't traded, Detroit has a decent core to the batting order if it can identify another run producer for the fifth spot. -- Jason Beck
LINEUP IF SEASON STARTED TODAY
1. Jeimer Candelario, 3B 2. Christin Stewart, LF 3. Nick Castellanos, RF 4. Miguel Cabrera, 1B 5. Niko Goodrum, 2B 6. John Hicks, DH 7. Grayson Greiner, C 8. JaCoby Jones, CF 9. Jordy Mercer, SS
Twins: Minnesota finished 23rd in the Majors with 166 homers in 2018, but added a trio of right-handed sluggers with 30-homer power -- C.J. Cron, Jonathan Schoop and Nelson Cruz -- to address the power concerns and fill the needs at first base, second base and designated hitter on manager Rocco Baldelli's first Twins roster. -- Do-Hyoung Park
LINEUP IF SEASON STARTED TODAY
1. Jorge Polanco, SS 2. Eddie Rosario, LF 3. Miguel Sano, 3B 4. Nelson Cruz, DH 5. C.J. Cron, 1B 6. Max Kepler, RF 7. Jonathan Schoop, 2B 8. Jason Castro, C 9. Byron Buxton, CF
White Sox This lineup on Jan. 15 could change by the end of the month or the end of the week or even the end of the day, as the White Sox continue their strong pursuit of premium free agent infielder Machado and possibly even premium free agent outfielder Harper. If they get one, let alone fulfill the long shot of reaching a deal with both, their lineup immediately looks quite different. Even if they miss out on both, the White Sox still have made significant changes to balance their lineup with the additions of left-handed hitting Yonder Alonso and Jon Jay. Angels The Angels are expected to be without designated hitter Shohei Ohtani to begin the season, as he recovers from Tommy John surgery, which means Albert Pujols will open the year as DH. Manager Brad Ausmus said he'd like to see Mike Trout hit No. 2 in the lineup, while Zack Cozart served as leadoff hitter early last season until suffering a season-ending labrum tear in his left shoulder. There remains a competition in the infield among David Fletcher, Taylor Ward and Tommy La Stella and it'll be determined in Spring Training. -- Rhett Bollinger

Astros The Astros made a huge addition to their lineup last month when they signed free agent outfielder Michael Brantley, who brings a much-needed presence from the left side of the plate while being difficult to strike out. The core of Houston's powerful lineup is all right-handed --Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, Alex Bregman and George Springer -- and the addition of Brantley gives them a top five in the lineup that's perhaps the deepest in baseball, when healthy. -- Brian McTaggart

Athletics One of baseball's most potent offenses will feature many of the same bats that helped the A's into the postseason last year. Homer-happy Khris Davis isn't the only power hitter residing in this lineup: Matt Olson, Stephen Piscotty, Matt Chapman and Marcus Semien also routinely hit the ball out of the park, and they're flanked by productive complementary pieces, including on-base machine Nick Martini and the dynamic Ramon Laureano. -- Jane Lee

Mariners Only four of last season's Opening Day position starters are still on the roster, though it's likely that a fifth -- Ichiro Suzuki -- will be added before the season begins. But gone are Seattle stalwarts Robinson Cano, Cruz and Jean Segura, who batted in the 2-3-4 spots in the lineup in last year's 2-1 Opening Day win over the Indians. Also gone is 2018 Opening Day catcher Mike Marjama, who was filling in for an injured Zunino, who has also been traded.
That leaves returning starters Dee Gordon -- who is shifting from center field to second base -- along with right fielder Mitch Haniger, third baseman Kyle Seager and first baseman Ryon Healy. -- Greg Johns

Rangers The Rangers are loaded with young left-handed power with Nomar Mazara, Joey Gallo, Rougned Odor and Ronald Guzman, but are still susceptible to the strikeout. Braves The Braves feel good about having three MVP candidates at the top of their lineup, but uncertainty about who will be the third outfielder leaves a glaring hole in the cleanup spot. If an outfielder is not acquired and Adam Duvall is given a starting spot, manager Brian Snitker could address the top-heavy nature of his lineup by moving Ender Inciarte to the leadoff spot and dropping either Ronald Acuna Jr. or Josh Donaldson to the fourth spot. The offense's success will be influenced by Ozzie Albies' adjustments against left-handers and Dansby Swanson's attempt to expand his plate coverage. -- Mark Bowman

Marlins The Marlins continue to explore the market for a left-handed power bat to play either first base or a corner outfield spot, and there is the on-going saga of whether All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto will be traded or not. With so much up in the air, projecting the Marlins' Opening Spring Training lineup remains highly speculative. But based on how the roster is constructed as of now, there are a number of directions the organization can go. A year ago, Lewis Brinson was the Opening Day leadoff hitter, and unless a more traditional table-setter is added, Brinson again could get a look at the top of the order, in hopes of getting him on track. -- Joe Frisaro

Mets The addition of Jed Lowrie gives the Mets an obvious No. 2 hitter, though they'll skew left-handed at the top of the order for as long as Yoenis Cespedes remains sidelined. Nationals There is still so much speculation about whether Harper will ultimately wind up back in the middle of this batting order, but the Nationals feel confident in this lineup even without their homegrown star at the center. Cardinals The top of the Cardinals' order became instantly more formidable with the December acquisition of Paul Goldschmidt. He'll likely hit behind one of the best leadoff hitters in the game and ahead of the club's two biggest power threats. Cubs Cubs manager Joe Maddon cycled through 152 lineup variations in 2018, so this alignment is definitely written in pencil. At least 10 players appeared in each lineup spot for Chicago, which featured one of MLB's top offenses until a two-month slump to end last season. The Cubs are banking on a return to health from slugger Kris Bryant, among other things, to help this group get back on track in '19. -- Jordan Bastian

Pirates The Pirates haven't officially settled on a shortstop, and it's unclear how they'll use Colin Moran and Jung Ho Kang at third base. The look of their lineup will also change when right fielder Gregory Polanco, their most productive hitter last season, comes off the disabled list. Manager Clint Hurdle will look for the right configuration, but it's fair to assume that Adam Frazier, Starling Marte and Corey Dickerson will be involved atop the order with Josh Bell getting another shot in the cleanup spot. -- Adam Berry

Reds The front office has signaled more improvements to the club are coming in the final month before Spring Training. There is still a need for a regular center fielder and the team has an overload of corner outfielders that will need to be sorted out. A fluid situation, it does not account for how the Reds will utilize another acquisition in corner outfielder Matt Kemp. And then there is Nick Senzel. The organization's No. 1 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, will be competing for the opening in center field but could also be a lineup regular in a utility role, playing up to five positions. -- Mark Sheldon

D-backs The D-backs still have work to do in order to complete their lineup for Opening Day with one big piece still unknown. They are looking to either move Ketel Marte to center and acquire a second baseman or acquire a center fielder and leave Marte at second. How that plays out could will reshape this lineup. One thing to note about the catching spot: while Carson Kelly figures to get a lot of time behind the plate, the D-backs also like to rotate their catchers, so Alex Avila and John Ryan Murphy will also play. -- Steve Gilbert

Padres Franmil Reyes, Wil Myers and Hunter Renfroe are currently fighting for two corner outfield spots (and, presumably, the No. 4 and 5 spots in the lineup). The Padres have a clear logjam in their outfield, and it's possible one of those three big boppers is dealt before the season. Hugh Freeze resigns from Ole Miss
So, you all have to have already seen the news about Hugh Freeze resigning from the head coaching job at Ole Miss after using a university phone to call an escort service. With everything that was swirling regarding NCAA investigations, it’s odd that this is the bit that did him in. Let’s dive right in, shall we?
It all started with this:
Y sources: Explosive new information has put Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze's job in immediate jeopardy. A decision should come soon.
— Pat Forde (@YahooForde) July 20, 2017
With then became this:
ANNOUNCEMENT | Hugh Freeze has resigned effective immediately. Matt Luke interim head coach. Press conference live at 7:30 PM CT on ESPNews.
— Ole Miss Football (@OleMissFB) July 20, 2017
Which was brought about because of this:
Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze made call to number tied to escort service http://bit.ly/2uhLF6H via @usatoday
— Dan Wolken (@DanWolken) July 20, 2017
Want more? Don’t cross Houston Nutt, apparently... he’ll work his inane magic to make you pay.
How does this affect Auburn at the moment? Well, in the immediate sense...
Ole Miss will be blown out by Auburn this season but Rebels get a win tonight by interrupting Auburn's #SECNTakeover with a press conference
— Brandon Marcello (@bmarcello) July 21, 2017
Yes, the Ole Miss presser preempted Auburn’s SEC Network Takeover coverage, but things were still back in full swing in time for you to see the Tigers beat Oregon. I believe we missed some of the Georgia game from 2013, so here are those highlights just in case you were craving that this morning.
As for the actual play on the field, obviously nobody knows how Ole Miss will rally around their interim coach, Matt Luke. Luke was a center at Ole Miss from 1995-1998, and he’s spent his time since graduation at Murray State, Tennessee, Duke, and now Ole Miss once again as co-offensive coordinator turned interim head coach. Luke has at least been present for Ole Miss’ wins over Alabama recently, so maybe he can rekindle some of that magic this year. He’s still got Shea Patterson to work with, so he’s got some tools, but I don’t think many people are going to expect much from the Rebels this season. This is a giant distraction, to put it mildly.
And to make things worse, it’s not like Freeze’s absence will burn off the NCAA cloud hanging over Oxford. The kinds of allegations levied against the school are still going to have to be addressed.
How would Faulkner have written what happened today? Probably like chapter 19 of As I Lay Dying. http://bit.ly/2ui2Q8i

For the final word on this matter (at least today), one of our favorites has the dagger.
God even actual fossil Robert Bentley knew about burners.
— Peggy (@peggyrossmanith) July 21, 2017
Back to Auburn, James Crepea has continued his early scout on some of the Tigers’ opponents... let’s get Mercer, Missouri, and Mississippi State. Ole Miss should be coming up next, but that may take a little while to concoct.

Shuffle Up: Sell high on Gleyber Torres?
Hotshot rookie Gleyber Torres still hits in the lower third of the Yankees lineup, for now. (AP Photo/Adam Hunger)
The Shuffle Up season rolls on. Today, we tackle the middle infielders.
The numbers don’t matter in a vacuum; what matters is how the player prices relate to one another. Assume a 5×5 scoring system, as always. Everyone listed here has second base (hiya, Rizzo) or shortstop eligibility in the Yahoo game at the current time. Players at the same cost are considered even. I’m not ranking the injured guys; it just becomes a silly game of “Who has the most injury optimism?”
[Yahoo Fantasy Football leagues are open: Sign up now for free]
And I’m not a doctor. (Somebody get me a doctor.)
Have some disagreements? Have some major disagreements? That’s good! That’s why we have a game. I welcome your respectful disagreement, anytime: @scott_pianowski on Twitter.
Everything to this point is an audition, that’s it. If you want a ranking of who’s been the best to this point, you can get that elsewhere.
$41 Jose Ramirez $41 Jose Altuve $40 Francisco Lindor $32 Carlos Correa $31 Manny Machado $30 Jean Segura $28 Anthony Rizzo $28 Trevor Story $27 Trea Turner $26 Scooter Gennett $26 Javier Baez
Story’s breakthrough is a modestly-kept secret. He’s already up to a career high in stolen bases, he’s trimmed the strikeout rate by 7.7 percent, he’s pulling the ball more and he’s significantly improved his hard contact. His walks are static, but every other plate discipline stat is in his favor. He bats fourth or fifth, nightly, behind Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado. Life is good . . . Gennett’s past calendar year: .314/.361/.534, with 32 homers, 113 RBIs, 96 runs. He’s turned himself into a star. The four-homer game last year was your tipoff, but too many people took the easy way out and took cheap shots at Gennett, held that performance against him. Players sometimes improve in a surprising or non-linear way.
$24 Alex Bregman $22 Xander Bogaerts $22 Andrelton Simmons $21 Ozzie Albies $20 Didi Gregorius $19 Brandon Crawford $19 Whit Merrifield $18 Brian Dozier $18 Dee Gordon $17 Cesar Hernandez $15 Gleyber Torres $15 Daniel Murphy $15 Eduardo Escobar
I’m sure I’m going to get killed in the comments for intimating that Torres might not automatically be the next Yankees great in line with DiMaggio, Mantle and Jeter. But let’s try to be realistic about who he is and what he’s done. He’s slashing .283/.337/.554 in 48 MLB games, after posting a .285/.362/.419 slash in his entire minor-league career. He only hit 24 home runs in 370 minor-league games; he already has 13 for the Yankees. He might be able to keep that .327 BABIP, especially with his elevated hard-hit rate. But he’s also striking out 27.5 percent of the time, and he’s only stolen two bases.
He’s batted ninth in 38 of his starts, albeit any spot in the New York lineup is a good one. But it will cost him that extra at-bat most of the time. Sure, they theoretically could move him up. Who’s moving down?
I have him priced as a solid player. I don’t consider $15 any kind of an insult. But baseball is hard, pitchers will make adjustments too, Torres might bat at the bottom of the order all year, and it’s tricky to trust a player who hits for more power in the majors than he did in the minors. Yes, the MLB ball is different. Yes, we saw this with Gary Sanchez (anytime you’re ready in 2018, Sanchez). Yes, Torres is just 21 and he’s still growing into his body and his career. But when someone is this splashy and this productive, this quickly, for this public a team, you better believe I’m going to look around and see if someone will make me a sweetheart deal. This is the type of player you can often be overpaid for.
$14 D.J. LeMahieu $13 Matt Carpenter $13 Chris Taylor $13 Jonathan Schoop $12 Asdrubal Cabrera $11 Tim Anderson $11 Yangervis Solarte $10 Jurickson Profar $9 Josh Harrison $9 Jed Lowrie $8 Ian Kinsler $8 Derek Dietrich $8 Marcus Semien $7 Jose Iglesias $7 Jonathan Villar
Schoop’s ranking is an “I don’t know either” ranking, to be sure. He’s been hurt this year. He’s hitting in bad luck but he’s making a lot of that bad luck, hitting more grounders, losing tons of hard contact. He’s chasing an eyelash more this year but it’s not a major difference, and his strikeout and walk rates are almost identical from last year. He’s hit two homers in his last seven games, with five walks against six strikeouts. Perhaps he’s finally settling in after the oblique injury. I would not drop him or give him away in a cheap deal; give this story a little more time to develop.
Cabrera hasn’t hit a thing for three weeks, though he did homer Sunday at Arizona. Perhaps the hamstring injury lingered longer than anyone recognized. This is not the week to sit him, as the Mets open with a four-game hitch in Colorado . . . I’m doing some pedigree chasing with Profar; remember, he wasn’t just a prospect, he was *the* prospect. His plate discipline is elite, and his .253 BABIP doesn’t jibe with his hard-hit rate. He’s pulling the ball more this year. I’m not giving up yet . . . Iglesias has figured out the base-stealing game, and the Tigers are letting him run liberally. His average is no longer a tax in today’s game; anything over .260 is likely to help you in many formats. I’d bump him into double-digits if the Tigers let him bat first or second; he’s almost always in the No. 8 slot. If only he walked a little more.
$6 Daniel Descalso $6 Ben Zobrist $6 Matt Duffy $6 Addison Russell $6 Marwin Gonzalez $6 Starlin Castro $6 Jose Peraza $6 Willy Adames $4 Ketel Marte $4 Jordy Mercer $4 Freddy Galvis $4 Jose Pirela $4 Yolmer Sanchez $4 Cory Spangenberg $4 Nick Ahmed $4 Amed Rosario $4 Yoan Moncada $4 Eduardo Nunez $4 Devon Travis
I still haven’t given up on Travis. He had a nifty 8-for-16 binge last week with a couple of homers, one off Max Scherzer. Travis is still just 27, has been hurt most of his MLB career. He had an OPS+ of 131 for his 62-game rookie season three years ago (62 games), then posted a 108 number the next year (100 is average). His career slash is playable — .285/.325/.453. I added him a few places, for cheap buy-ins, this week.
$3 Niko Goodrum $3 Jedd Gyorko $3 Joe Panik $2 Ian Happ $2 Alen Hanson $2 Yairo Munoz $2 Dansby Swanson $2 Chad Pinder $2 Jason Kipnis $2 Adalberto Mondesi $1 Ehire Adrianza $1 Isiah Kiner-Falefa $1 Charlie Culberson $1 Kike Hernandez $1 Johan Camargo $1 Hernan Perez $1 Rougned Odor $1 Scott Kingery $1 Logan Forsythe $0 Wilmer Difo $0 Miguel Rojas $0 Joseph Wendle $0 Brock Holt $0 Adam Frazier $0 Brad Miller $0 Alcides Escobar $0 Wilmer Flores $0 J.P. Crawford
Odor still has options remaining. I don’t care what the contract says, a demotion might be the right play here.

Predicting the winner of every game in Week 12 of CFB, from Michigan-Wisconsin to BC-UConn
Is Week 12 less exciting from a big-game perspective? Absolutely. Will silly college football things still happen? Absolutely.
And now, a breather. After two chaotic college football weekends, we ease our foot off the gas. Week 12 sees only one ranked-vs.-ranked matchup, and the top two teams in the CFP rankings face FCS foes.
This is college football, so you’ll still find crazy, exciting games if you look for them. But you’ll have to look for them. This schedule is the opposite of a standout.
Below are picks and projections using the S&P+ projections you can find in full in the Football Study Hall stat profiles. See the bottom of the post for more detail about these. After a bit of a midseason funk, S&P+ has hit 56 percent against the spread in each of the last two weekends.
The spread (listed in parentheses) is shown next to S&P+’s pick for each game. There is no spread for games with FCS opponents. When S&P+ predicts a tie or a push (a tie with Vegas, basically), I’m listing the pick on the side S&P+ would pick if teams could score in decimals.
This document breaks games (and S&P+’s season performance to date) out into their decimal glory.
Ranked vs. ranked
Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports
Michigan’s Brandon Peters
No. 5 Wisconsin (-7.5) 28, No. 24 Michigan 18 (Saturday, 12:00 PM ET, Fox)
Michigan’s offense had averaged only 17 points per game in its last three contests before Brandon Peters took over at quarterback. Since then: 34 points per game. Wisconsin is tremendous, but this might the worst possible time to play the Wolverines. (S&P+ disagrees.)

Each year at Football Study Hall, I have posted weekly S&P+ picks as a way of affirming the ratings’ validity. I use my S&P+ system as a complement to most of my analysis, and the picks are a way of showing it generally knows what it’s talking about.
S&P+ tends to hit between 50 (meh) and 54 percent (great) against the spread from year to year. It isn’t always the single best performer, but it holds its own. And beyond picks, it goes deeper than any other set of college football analytics on the market. You can go into granular detail regarding team strengths and weaknesses in a way that no other set of ratings allows. (See the annual team statistical profiles as proof.)
This year, I am posting the weekly S&P+ picks at SB Nation instead of FSH.
