A Brief Outline of the Diabolik Lovers Timeline

This post contains spoilers for Dark Fate and Lost Eden. However it is free of Chaos Lineage spoilers. Also note the spellings of some of the names here vary between translations. 

First of all I’m just going to give a quick outline of the world in which DL is set as of Lost Eden for anyone who hasn’t played the games. In the DL universe, there exists the human world and the demon world. In the demon world there are four different clans of demons, with links to four different animals; vampires (who are associated with bats), the Vibora (who are associated with snakes), the Adler (who are associated with eagles) and the wolf clan.

And then there are the founders (or originators depending on how the name is translated) who are also referred to as first bloods. The founders were the original demon race, and they are the ancestors of the four demon clans mentioned above. Because of this they possess abilities from all four clans and can transform into a bat, snake, eagle or wolf, as well as generally being considered stronger than the other demon races (with some exceptions).

On top of these races you also have the ghouls, who are first introduced in Lost Eden and are separate to the other demon races. Ghouls are very similar to humans in terms of abilities, although they can turn into crows. The main demon races mistreat the ghouls quite badly due to the distinct difference in their power levels. Humans who spend too long in the demon world become ghouls but ghouls can be conceived naturally between two ghoul parents as well. They have been forced to live in an area known as Rotigenberg, which is an unpleasant part of the demon world.

At the start of this timeline, Giesbach, Shin and Carla’s father, ruled over the founders and, although Karl Heinz was the vampire king around the same time, the founders were the ones effectively in charge of the demon world. They all lived in a castle known as Banmaden (the translation of which is Pandemonium, and you’ll often see it referenced using either of these names). I’m going to list the key events as bullet points because I think that makes it a little easier to read.

- Carla is born to Giesbach and his wife Krone.

- Endzeit first appears and begins to affect the founders. Endzeit is a fatal disease that is contracted through contact with infected blood, however it is completely unique to the founders and none of the other demon races can catch it. The illness presents with dark bruises on the skin sometime after infection, and later progresses to tuberculous-like symptoms, with the final stages involving a sort of paralysis.

- Karl visits Rotigenburg for unknown reasons and leaves some trace of his DNA behind. This fuses with the miasma present in the air to form Kino, who is later taken in by the ghouls. *

- Shin is born.*  

- Krone asks Karl Heinz for his help with Endzeit, as he was friends with her and Giesbach at the time. Karl asks Krone to send him a founder in order to conduct his research. Krone manages to get Menae, Shin and Carla’s aunt, to agree to this but they are not yet able to get her to Karl Heinz.

- Jealous of Karl’s power, Giesbach decides to wage war upon him and the demon lord Burai (who was one of the Vibora). Krone pleads with him not to but Giesbach locks her in dungeons.

- More founders are affected by Endzeit and confined to the dungeons, leading to Krone contracting the disease. As Carla visits her but remains fine, she realizes that it must be spread through blood.

- Krone gives a knife with her blood on it to Carla so that he can kill Giesbach and stop the war. Carla confronts his father and successfully infects him with Endzeit but becomes infected himself in the process. Unfortunately he is too late to save the founders and Karl Heinz seals them all in Banmaden using his magic.

- Menae receives instructions from Karl on how to slip through the barrier surrounding the castle and leaves (presumably after being infected with Endzeit). Magic is used to erase any memories of her possessed by the founders remaining in the castle but it does not work properly on Carla.

- Menae conceives Cordelia with Burai (the demon lord of the Vibora), due to Karl’s influence, making Cordelia Shin and Carla’s first cousin (while the triplets are their second cousins). Now as for Cordelia’s race, it’s a little vague but as far as I can tell, only one parent needs to be a full first blood in order for their offspring to inherent founder blood. So although Cordelia is part Vibora, her race would be classified as first blood because she draws on the blood of all four demon clans through Menae.

- Menae passes away after Cordelia is born and as she grows up, Karl Heinz starts to court her. Cordelia falls in love with him and then marries him.

- In order to push Cordelia to have children with him, Karl takes Beatrix as his wife and he also proceeds to marry Christa, his cousin. Now depending on which game you go on, this is either because he wants to have an incest child for his experiments (DF) or because he actually has some feelings for her but I’d take the last one with a pinch of salt given Karl’s overall characterization throughout the series.

- Shuu is born to Beatrix and Karl, which incites Cordelia’s fury as this makes Shuu his heir, even though Beatrix is Karl’s second wife.

- Reiji is born.

- Cordelia gives birth to the triplets. Despite Cordelia having founder blood, the triplets are vampires. I can only conclude that this is because Cordelia was not a full founder while Karl was a pure blood vampire. 

- Christa has Subaru and subsequently starts to descend into madness.

- While Shuu is still a child he encounters Yuma, known then as Edgar, and the two are friends until Reiji burns down Edgar’s village. This leaves Edgar with amnesia. He runs into a boy named Lucks, and joins his gang, however Lucks is later killed and Yuma is sent to an orphanage.

- Around this time Kou and Azusa are living on the streets and they are sent to the same orphanage as Yuma. -Also around this time, Ruki’s once rich father loses all of their money and commits suicide. Ruki’s mother runs off with a lover and Ruki is beaten by the household servants until he runs and takes to living on the streets. Ruki is then also sent to the orphanage.

- The Mukami brothers meet at the orphanage and work together to form an escape plan. It fails and Ruki is branded by the people running the orphanage. Karl Heinz then appears before him and offers to make the Mukami brothers vampires in exchange for their loyalty and help with his plan. They accept and Karl takes them in.

- Reiji hires Seiji, a vampire hunter who later becomes Yui’s adoptive father, to kill Beatrix.

- Cordelia is killed by the triplets but her heart is taken from her body by Richter, Karl’s brother, and implanted into an infant Yui who is then given to Seiji Komori. 

- Yui grows up and is sent to live with the Sakamaki brothers.

- While all this is happening the founders are still trapped in Banmaden, however they are killed off by Endzeit. Giesbach finally dies, leaving only Carla and Shin and making Carla the first blood ruler. Carla recalls that they had an aunt and they find her brooch which is imbued with some type of magic. Using that they deduce she escaped on the night of a lunar eclipse, as during lunar eclipses, a vampire’s power will weaken while a founder’s grows stronger.

- Carla and Shin break the barrier on Banmaden, freeing them and this is where Dark Fate starts. They seek out Menae as they need a woman with founder blood to restore their race, however they encounter a poorly disguised Richter who tells them that although Menae is dead, the heart of her daughter resides inside a human woman.

- The Tsukinami brothers seek out Yui and from here things diverge depending on which route you play.

- Although it is not stated exactly when, at some point Kino ascertains that he is related to Karl Heinz, although he mistakenly thinks that he is Karl’s son and it is only revealed that this is not the case in the Manservant Ending of his LE route.

And that should cover it. I’ve gone into more details with the founders because I know more about them and that seems to be the part that people find confusing.  In terms of a timescale, it’s a little hard to discern. I’ve seen various theories on the ages of the Sakamaki and Mukami brothers but I personally I am unsure. One thing I will say is that the Tsukinami brothers are definitely a lot older than all of the other diaboys, as they were trapped in Banmaden before Cordelia was even born. It does confuse me as to why their physical ages are listed as being younger than some of the Sakamaki brothers, but I’ve decided to put this down to them having to say they’re a certain age when applying to school. 

*Regarding the order of Shin and Kino’s birth, I do not believe that the canon material gives enough information to determine which of the two of them is actually older and personally I think I could argue it either way. The reason I have listed them in the order above, is that this gives perhaps the simplest overview of the timeline and groups a bunch of the founder-centric events together. But yeah, keep this in mind and I find anything more on this I’ll update this post.

what do you think would happen if Chelsea and Corin were suddenly out of the picture and the Volturi guard were given a choice of whether or not they wanted to stay? Who do you think would stay and who would leave? Where would they go/what would they do?

Great question!

First of all, I just want to say that a lot of this depends on howone perceives Chelsea, Corin and the Volturi organization in general. I’ve beena vocalsupporter of the Volturi being Lawful Neutral and I tend to agree with mostof @kyilliki‘s headcanonsaboutChelsea’spowers. Specifically, the last one about limits. I tend to think she cannotcure potent hatred, destroy true love, or invent affection or malice that doesnot exist. (Basically, she can only work with something that’s already there,and either amplify it or turn it down). And her powers will slowly start to wearoff the longer you stay away from her, especially if you resist them.

And Corin’spower is… weird. I’m not a big fan ofher, to be honest. I forget she exists most days. I feel like she was mostly adevice SMeyer created to cover her bases when fans would inevitably ask “Why onearth do Sulpicia and Athenadora put up with being locked in a tower?” (whichis bogus)and “Why doesn’t Chelsea just leave? Who is keeping her there?” Uh, Afton, next. I have a hard time seeing heras an actual character, but I’ll try my best.

So,in order to best answer your question, I’m going to discuss multiple options (oneas close to SMeyer’s canon as I can stand, and another one or two more closelyaligned with my own headcanons and reinterpretations.

Withthat longwinded explanation out of the way, I present:

The Brothers:

Marcus – It’s (unfortunately) canon that Aro found Chelsea around thesame time Didyme died, and used her to keep Marcus around after the fact. So, Ithink he would be one of the most likely to leave if Chelsea was gone. I’d liketo hope he’d be able to move on—I sometimes think hanging around Volterra onlyincreases his grief. But perhaps he’d simply find an amenable nomad who wouldhelp him end his suffering. Either way, if we’re following canon, I think he’dfind peace outside the Volturi.  

Of course, if you follow mytags, I tend to rejectDidyme’s death in general. So either she’s stillwith the guard, or secretly alive. And in my stories, Chelsea plays a muchless manipulative role, so her absence wouldn’t affect his loyalty as much. Hemight decide to travel a bit more often—which bothers Aro. But Aro letEleazar go so, to be consistent, he’ll let Marcus go too, providedMarcus still keeps in contact and lets him use his powers from time to time.  

Caius – Both in canon and in my personal headcanons I think he wouldstay. Something attracted Caius to the Volturi long before Chelsea was ever apart of the picture, and though I do think she helps his abrasive personalitymesh better with everyone else, I don’t think he’d leave if she was gone. He’sgot a strong sense of justice, and clearly believes in the Volturi method ofenforcing it.

The Wives:

Athenodora – In canon, she met and fell in love with Caius before he joinedthe Volturi, so I don’t think she would leave regardless. I don’t think she’sas committed to the Volturi vision as he is, but she loves and supports him.Plus, being part of the Volturi comes with a lot of perks of civilization thatmost other nomads don’t get to enjoy. Perks like fashion, literature, art,history etc. that I think she would miss too much if she were to leave.

Sulpicia – Canon paints the most unromantic picture between her and Aro. Heselected her as a human because he thought she fit his parameters? Gross. Cancelled.

But if we must examinethings that way, then I actually think she’s likely to leave. Perhaps she wasdemure and unassuming in her mortal life, but as a vampire, Aro doesn’t reallyhold any physical power over her. And without real, abiding love to bind themtogether, I think she’d get sick of the Volturi Wife life—being a spoiled,pampered pet—and want to pursue her own happiness elsewhere.

Generally, in my ownstories I tend to portray her one of two ways: Either she has left (with Aro’sexpress permission, because he realized he made a mistake) to pursue her ownhappiness. Or they actually did grow to love each other while she was human. Inthe second scenario, selecting a wife so that he wasn’t the only odd man outmay have been Aro’s original reason for dating her. But, ala everyone’sfavorite fanfiction tropes, they grew to love each other genuinely over time.

And in both of those cases,I think she’d stay.

Didyme – In canon she’s dead, so it’s moot. But provided she’s still aliveand chilling with the guard, she would also be very likely to leave. I like tohope that Aro and Marcus could come to some kind of arrangement—I’ll let youtravel the world with your wife if you promise to stop by and visit now andthen. But maybe I’m just being a relentless optimist.

The Guard:

Alec and Jane – They aren’t going anywhere in either scenario. The guardis all they’ve ever known, and gives them frequent reasons to use their powersthat any other place in the world really wouldn’t. 

Renata – She strikes me as unusually loyal. The wayshe clings to Aro, and gets all panicky if anyone even looks at him funny inBreaking Dawn suggests that her bond with him is deeper than some of theothers. I don’t think that’s entirely Chelsea’s fault (whether or not Chelseais as stupidly OP as she is in SMeyer’s mind or not), so she’d probablystay. 

Felix – I think he would also stay. There have to beplenty of options for “strength” type guards in the world. So, the factthat he’s stuck around I think, is not only Chelsea’s doing, but also his owndesire to be there. 

I think the same holds true for Santiago. But he’s more of a 50/50 since I don’t know exactly howlong he’s been with the guard. If it’s more than 200 years, I give it goodchance he’ll stay. If not, he could leave or stay, really. 

Heidi – Now she is an interesting case. In canon Arodestroyed most of her coven, except for her and Victoria (and only becausevictoria escaped). And canon implies that this was something Aro did for powermore than as part of upholding the law. His “excuse” was that Heidi’scoven of six was too large and drawing too much attention to itself. So hekilled everyone except her who he claimed was “penitent,” or whatever. Inthis scenario, I think if Heidi ever got wind of this, of course she’d nope the hell out of there. 

But again, in my own more Lawful Neutral stance on the Volturi, Itend to headcanon that Heidi’s coven wasn’t guilty of being “too big”(kinda hypocritical coming from the Volturi) but they had an uncontrollable newborn(Noela) who had to be put down. And some of the coven had too strong of ties toher for Chelsea to cut, so they decided to die trying to protect her. Heidi andVictoria, who barely knew the girl, were able to be cut free of any ties, andlive. 

For her, it all boils downto whether she feels coerced or used or not, I guess. Canon of course, wants usto believe the former. But since they only sprang that on us in the last fewchapters of Breaking Dawn, and anything that’s come out after that and werestill insisting, up til chapter 30 that the Volturi “aren’t supposed to be thevillains” I chose to reject that idea. I mean, come on, they even say:

“they [the Volturi] are thefoundation of our peace and civilization. Each member of the guard chooses toserve them. It’s quite prestigious; they all are proud to be there, not forcedto be there.”

And I much prefer that tobe true, instead of having it be refuted at the last second for DramaTM. 

Demetri – Canonically, he would probably leave. He was originally part ofthe Egyptian coven, and there’s some implication in canon that he would nothave left them and joined Aro if it wasn’t for Chelsea’s influence. I usuallypersonally headcanon Chelsea’s power as less of a brainwashing influence, andmore of an amplifier or de-amplifier of sentiments that already exist, so in myown works his decision to leave his original coven and join the Volturi wasmuch more voluntary. But depending on how closely you adhere to SMeyer’s vision(and let’s face it, none of us adhere completely to that) he’d be one of themost likely to leave. 

Corin - I know you said both of them are gone, but you got me wonderingabout what each of them might do if only the other was gone. If Chelsea wasgone, but Corin was still around, I think Corin’ decision to stay or leavewould be predicated on how she saw her position in the guard. If she thoughtshe was helping people, I think she’d stay. If she felt like her “addictivecontentment” was a drug that was harming people, then she’d leave, and probablyresist all further contact with other vampires.

Wait a minute, why haven’t I paid more attention to this characterbefore? Corin realizing her powers hurt people and therefore isolating herselffrom everyone is Prime Material for angst.Which is my BrandTM.

Chelsea – On the flipside, if Corin was the one to go, but not Chelsea, Igive it a 80/20 chance in favor of her staying. It’s canon that Aro spoils theshit out of her. And he has her convinced (whether it’s true or not) that whatshe does is beneficial to coven cohesion. The only reason Aro has Corin use herpowers on Chelsea is because he is enormously paranoid.

But given everything that’shappened over the millennia, with the scourge of the immortal children, andnewborn armies threatening to destroy everything they’ve worked to build overthe years in the blink of an eye, can you really blame him? Especially in thisera of instantaneous, world-wide communication?

Afton – putting him last because he’s useless.  If Chelsea was gone (whether she died or justleft) he would leave. I get the sense from the description he’s given that heannoys the crap out of Aro on the best days. And I agree with all of these,aside from the first one. I tend to headcanon that Afton is a rather newaddition to the guard (he joined during Carlisle’s time) which makes theannoyance fresh. But I also headcanons that he was one of the people Eleazarfound while working with the Volturi.

It makes sense that way.Eleazar would have promised Aro that Afton would be so cool. “Invisibility illusion”sounds a lot cooler than Afton’s version really is. So, when Aro found out itwasn’t all it was cracked up to be, he was very disappointed. And he givesAfton constant crap about it, only barely tolerating him for Chelsea’s sake.

So, without Chelsea aroundto give Afton a reason to be there, well, of course, he wouldn’t stay.

Prism Characters - Full List

Patricia Sanders (Pat, Trish, Trisha) - 19 at beginning of series.  Aspiring Pangaean bard.  College student.  Long, red hair, blue eyes.  Full of hope until a certain asshole (Vlad, see below) shows up and by a certain series of events permanently damages her left hand.  After a while she realizes he’s cool (most of the time) but there’s still issues.

Leland Sanders (Lee) - Pat’s older brother (26 y/o).  One of 3 people who call her “Trish/Trisha”.  She would call him an asshole.  She wouldn’t be wrong.  Matching hair and eyes, easy to tell they’re related.  Has a dragon brand on his left arm, a bond to the Golden Crown. In a complicated relationship with Lindsey.

Lindsey Praett (Liz) - Faerie con artist, wanted by a lot of people - not least of all the Golden Crown.  Brunette hair worn in a bob, blue eyes. Because of faerie biology she ages twice as fast as a human, so she’s 14 with the body and mind of a 28-year-old (feel free to ask me about the Seelie! I’d love to talk about my worldbuilding!). In a complicated relationship with Leland.

Eva Renfield-Blake (Eva Blake, Eva Stockton) - Helsing (vampire hunter) bloodline, raised by vampires, mostly Todd.  Married to Ren Blake, mother of triplet boys with a fourth on the way.  25 at beginning of the series, at the University with the intention of becoming a social services equivalent (that bit of worldbuilding is still under construction). Blonde hair worn in a wedge, green eyes, outgoing and headstrong.  Friendly personality.  Pat’s roommate at college.

Ren Blake (Renfield) - Eva’s husband, one of the few Renfields to have actually escaped from Dracula.  (for more Renfield information feel free to ask me, it’s a bit of building I’m really happy with).  Brown hair, brown eyes, quiet demeanor. Stays at home with the triplets while Eva finishes school; plans to be a stay-at-home dad when she’s finished, even though they haven’t quite decided yet.  

Leanne Sterling (Ash, Detective Sterling) - 22-year-old police commander in the New Pangaean Capital.  She’s clever, shrewd, and an excellent actress.  One of the few people who can meet Erik Dracula head-on in a battle of wits.  In “a simple relationship” with Doc.  Hair is somewhere between ash-blonde and mousy brown, long but usually worn in an updo so it’s out of the way; fair complexion; delicate features; grey eyes.  Can and will kick your ass.  You will thank her when she’s done. Best in her field and up for promotion soon, likely to be chosen as Head of New Pangaean Intelligence after completing officer’s training at the University.  Only competition is Luc.

Draeven Rafel Agon (Doc) - draconic veterinarian, laid-back personality.  Loves his job.  Dark hair, dark eyes.  Been friends with Ash since childhood, now in “a simple relationship” with her.

Marcus Benipe - 21-year-old Bouda (like a hyena werewolf, but it’s completely voluntary, transformation is complete, and it can be “cured”) prince with an attitude.  Dark hair, dark complexion, dark eyes.  Excellent warrior, smart but comes off as a class clown. Can’t seem to take anything seriously, least of all himself.  But is extremely loyal and a trusted friend of the Princes, especially Charles.

Lucian Bubioscandia (Luc) - 22-year-old military intelligence officer. Half-Fae. Calm, collected, serious.  A double-agent (triple-agent?) against the Golden Crown.  Very close to Prince Henry. Grey hair, green eyes.  Big grey wings.  Seems compliant most of the time but often out of loyalty to an individual rather than a cause.  Can be stubborn.  Is very smart.  Has done his job so well that he is one of the top choices for Head of New Pangaean Intelligence, his only real competition being Ash.

Heather Titian - Faerie of an influential (and highly criminal) family trying to escape that life, unlike her adopted sister, Abathy.  Fair complexion, hair colored light purple like her natural eye color.  Really just wants a simple life but the way events are going it’s unlikely.  Looks and acts 22-ish but is around 11 (like Lindsey and all faeries she ages twice as fast as humans).

Charles Werner - Second Prince of the New Pangaean Empire, and a complete dork.  Dark brunet hair and hazel eyes.  Is 20 at the beginning of the series but acts younger.  Not exactly leader material, nor does he want to be.  His brother is the heir, not him, he’s just a guy who happens to be a prince.  Second of three people to call Pat “Trish/Trisha”.

Henry Werner - Crown Prince of the New Pangaean Empire, anticipated heir to the throne.  Fair hair, brown eyes.  Is 25 at the beginning of the series but acts older.  Has most good leadership abilities and is very familiar with the cultures under the Empire’s banner and a few outside it.  Well-educated, well-liked.  A good kid really.

Ninko - daughter of Lord Tenko of the Kitsune.  Four-tails, most likely heir of the nine-tails title (feel free to ask about kitsunes, another proud monument of worldbuilding).  Another skilled warrior with proud heritage, but is also a talented healer and fast learner.  Typically kitsune red hair and dark eyes.

Yako - two-tails, one of the few kitsune with black hair.  He’s a bit of a self-made outcast, he prefers his own company or that of the Kappa outside the village to that of other Kitsune.  He doesn’t know much about Southern culture but is more than willing to learn.

Todderick Howards (Todd, Howards, Millennium) - Unseelie who’s put himself into a neutral position, not an easy thing to do but considering he’s one of the oldest vampires alive (second only to the Golden Crowns) there aren’t many who are willing to mess with him.  After the death of his maker, Sarge Garrett, he adopted Eva Stockton.  He looks to be in his 20s - maybe early 30s - with black hair and green eyes.  He’s also very tall, more than six feet.

Vlad Dracula (Drake) - Younger Golden Crown Brother and apparent villain until you get to know him.  He’s the scary one: in your face, fangs bared, apparently a sadistic asshole.  But in reality? He’s a big softie.  He gets easily attached to people.  He admires Ash Sterling and would consider himself friends with Pat (“Trish/Trisha”), though whether that feeling is mutual varies between points in the story.  Also tall, dark hair and dark eyes that, like all Unseelies’, reflect red in the light.  

Erik Dracula - Older Golden Crown Brother, and at first glance, the tame one. Seems introverted, quiet, polite.  But he’s the manipulative one, the brains, the leader.  He lacks empathy.  His only loyalty lies with family: his brother, his wife, and his son.

Abathy Titian-Dracula (Abby) - Faerie changeling (human adopted by the Seelie and imbued with magic), adopted sister to Heather and wife of Erik.  To put it crudely, a crazy bitch. She’s sadistic, strong, and smart, with a few glosses of charm if she needs them. She loves her husband, but the only person she would be willing to sacrifice herself completely for is her young son, Agravein.  Seelie magic and proximity to Unseelie has made her aging a bit weird but biologically she’s in her early 30s.

Agravein Dracula (Aggie) - 1-year-old son of Erik and Abathy, making him half-Unseelie, half-human, with Seelie attributes.  There isn’t much to say about him in Prism as he’s a baby through most of the main series but he’ll be the star player in the sequel series.

That’s it for now! It’s a lot but there are other characters who might be mentioned - they’re either minor or dead.  Depends on the character.

Alexander Corvinus, ruling Hungarian lord, is the sole survivor of a plague that ravaged his territory. 515 AD

Remarried, and having not aged since his surviving the disease, has twin boys, Michael and William. 518 AD

Stephan, the third son of Alexander, is born. 540 AD

Marcus is bitten by bat, and over the course of the next weeks begins metamorphosing into the first Vampire, suffering the side effects of the reaction to the sun and thirst for blood that would be passed to all his children. 542 AD

William is attacked and ravaged by a wolf, left in a weakened and feverish state, until the first full moon following the attack when he transforms, killing his wife and children, and household staff which had to be put down by Marcus and his father's soldiers.

The search for a 'cure' begins, as does the hunt to contain William. 750 AD

Viktor, future Hungarian warlord, is born. 770 AD

Viktor's rise to power continues nearly unabated. 771 AD

Viktor's daughter Amelia is among the children born to him. 795 AD

Markus offers Viktor immortality in exchange for creating an army of vampires to combat the Werewolf plague. 1200 AD

Alexander and his organization is revealed to Selene, and the truth of his immortality, and his sons' heritage. He offers himself to Selene to make her stronger, before decimating his ship and himself, obliterating himself into dust, not willing to live in a world where his sons were dead, especially if by his own actions.

William is freed from his cell by Marcus.

Michael awakens in time to save Selene from William, killing him while Selene fought Marcus, leaving Michael and Selene the sole survivors of the events at the castle.

With William, Marcus, Alexander, Victor and Amelia dead, the coven damaged and vampire and lycans scattered and without immediate leadership, chaos followed. 2004 AD

Erika stepped forward to quickly pick up the reins of the Coven house, rallying the nobles, those loyal to the old ways, and those that had been loyal to Kraven together and focusing them on their common enemy :: Selene, the hybrids, and the Lycans.

Michael and Selene struggled to keep peace between the species, resolving to offer sanctuary to Lycan or Vampire that wished freedom, or peace.

Raze stepped forward to claim leadership of the Lycans, swearing to hold to Lucian's desire to destroy the vampires; focusing mainly on those still loyal to Erika and the old clans, he has an uneasy and unspoken truce with Michael and Selene.

Namjoon

Namjoon is the leader. He's been there since the beginning, taking care of the others. He created most of them, taking them under his wing when they were broken. His story is quite unknown, even to himself, and what he does remember he doesn't really tell the others. He was born in 1766, then reborn 22 years later. It was the week of his birthday and he was walking home from work in the rain when he was pushed and blacked out. He woke up three weeks later, surrounded by rotting garbage in a ditch outside of his hometown. His only need was to satiate his thirst. He attacked whoever he could find wandering about at random hours of the night until he found a more stable source. He lived many different lives, never loving anyone until his "children." His first creation was Yoongi, followed by Jimin, then Jin, and lastly Jungkook.

Yoongi

The first of Namjoon's creations, Yoongi was always more of a favorite of his. His unwavering loyalty to his elder earned his trust as Namjoon's right-hand man. From the moment they met, they both knew they could trust each other with their lives. This gave the leader enough confidence to tell a human what he was, without killing them directly after. Yoongi was born significantly later, 1878 to be exact. His fate to become Namjoon's companion forever was sealed at midnight at the turn of the century.

Jimin

Jimin was born in 1898, and turned in 1918 when Namjoon found him dying after a gang fight. He was created for the sole purpose of Namjoon providing his companion a lover. Jimin and Yoongi were at first very much infatuated with each other, but never loved each other. Their relationship was mutually cut off when Yoongi accidentally let it slip that while Jimin was a good sexual partner, he couldn't continue a relationship where he didn't love his partner. Jimin however completely agreed and the two made a pact to find each others soulmate. Jimin remained loyal to Namjoon afterwards as a payment for his debt, a life for a life. Jimin however began reaching out to other covens, become highly respected in the community, in both the over and underworlds.

Taehyung

Taehyung was a very different story when it came to joining the coven. He was an ancient, meaning he was of the original vampire line, and possibly changed from the first vampire himself. Tae doesn't remember much of his life, just that he has known most of mankinds history as it happened. He happened across the group when other nomads he knew began talking about Jimin and his influence across the world. His curiosity led him to the doorstep of their hidden home, eager to meet the leader who created someone as influential as Jimin. Namjoon accepted him as one of their own, Yoongi doing so in response to his leader. It didn't take long for him to integrate himself as though he was here from creation, allowing their bond to grow stronger as a group.

Jin

Jin was a human who Namjoon secretly followed for weeks before approaching. Unable to decide whether he should forget this intriguing human, or offer him to join their coven, provided he isn't branded as a lunatic in the process. Once approached, Jin originally wanted to stay human, living with the group for a while as one. As Jin began to grow older than Namjoon and the others before their changes, Namjoon worried about his friend dying when he could live with them forever. It was the intimacy of Jin's change that brought about the relationship between the two. Jin quickly became Namjoon's lover, promising himself to his leader for as long as they both live.

Hoseok

Hoseok was the only member created for the group, but not by Namjoon. Jimin found him while at a local bar, and thought he was a good choice for his ex-lover. He had Yoongi follow him to the bar, learning that Hoseok had just lost his wife in an unfortunate accident, and Yoongi took it upon himself to cheer the man up. While the two bonded, a deeper relationship formed, and the two found themselves together for many weeks, Yoongi only telling of his secret just before their first time. Yoongi lightly fed off Hoseok every time they would hook up, but not enough to harm him at all. Hoseok eventually asked Yoongi to turn him, as he couldn't live without his love. Yoongi agreed, at first angering Namjoon for being reckless. Soon Hoseok was a close member of the coven, earning his trust over time.

Jungkook

Jungkook was the last to join the group, created by Namjoon and chosen by Jin. He was the youngest when he changed, only being 18. His family home caught on fire leaving him without a family, Namjoon found him, suffering and offered his help. Jungkook agreed, eager to secretly get his revenge on the men who killed his family. He became the covens baby, bonding with Tae and Jimin the most. The three became inseparable, even feeding together in the night. Jin took great care of him and treated Jungkook as the child him and Namjoon could never have.

I know it’s awful but this is the first time I’ve tried anything like this so please don’t send hate but I don’t mind constructive criticism

The Walking Dead Season 7 Premier Review (sp-spoilers)

(better late than never)

The Beginning: “I’m gonna kill you.” And, granted, at the time, you totally believed that Rick was going to hold true to his raspy, PSTD-stricken response to Negan and his earlier crack. You really felt in that moment, given what had just happened, who we had just lost, that Rick was still in control, however slightly. Sure, the Saviors had just out-planned and out-grouped our heroes in the most inconceivable way imaginable but even when they were thrown onto their knees in a pile of their own tears and sweat, you just… deep down, you didn’t want to relinquish the comforting thought that Rick and his group had some sort of ace up their sleeves!

Well, as the shockingly gruesome opener of the brand-spanking new season shows, Rick and his group have about two aces: Jack and Shit. And Jack left during the first commercial break.

The Middle: “You can breathe. You can blink. You can cry. ” Preach it, Negan. By now, we’re all pretty well-versed in the universe of The Walking Dead, especially when you consider the cliffhanger to end ALL cliffhangers that claimed the end of the sixth season. You know what I’m talking about, the one that left us basically frothing at the mouth like we’d swallowed a glass of rabies because they didn’t show who Negan had Lucille’d at the end. I mean, come on! All that build-up! All that suspense! All that bull we had to slog through trying to figure out the logistics of Negan’s men being able to cut Rick’s off at every turn like they did! And then the exhaustion from giving that up and just being satisfied that we’d know which of our beloved characters wouldn’t be returning next season! But—SURPRISE! Turns out, it was us who got Lucille’d! Lucille’d by the bat of ‘fuck you’. Because all we got was the most haunting introduction to a villain that I’ve ever seen, followed by the most haunting bat-meets-head crunches that I’ve ever heard. It was twisted, it was cruel, it was downright uncalled for—and I’m not even talking about the beatdown in question anymore, I’m talking about being told we’d have to wait almost half a year to find out the conclusion. That was the most despicable thing about that season’s finale. Fight me.

BUT. But… as the show’s creators promised, over and over again, when the curtain finally lifted on the premiere of Season 7, we found out exactly who got got. About two commercials and twenty minutes in. Not exactly as ‘immediate’ as they made it seem the reveal would be, but it did eventually arrive.

And, boy, right about now, I’m wishing it hadn’t.

Because it came without tags, it came without packages, boxes, or bags, but it came just the same with the fatally crushing force of a blow to the head, which is how Abraham went out. That’s right. Our ginger-haired, badass sergeant of few words but many quips (who can forget his infamous Bisquick line?). He was the unlucky winner of Negan’s sadistic little ‘eeny meeny minie mo’ game, he was the ‘champ’ Negan had alluded to at the end of season six. He was the one. Him. And, true to his ways, after that first swing cracked his noggin and he straightened himself up, ignorant of the blood dripping in droves down his face, he coughed up one last barb at the surprised Negan:

“Suck. My. Nuts.”

(Introduced a badass, left a badass)

Those three words alone, spit with such unwavering defiance even in the face of impending death, have forever cemented Abe in that infamous boardwalk of badasses. It’s been said before, I’m saying it again, because Abe deserves it. What he didn’t deserve was the brutal whack that almost immediately followed. Two or three more whacks at his skull and Negan decides to take a pause, obviously a little tired but laughing, tickled pink by Abe’s last show of scorn. And he goes right back to whacking. And whacking. Annnnnd whacking, literally, just… it was awful, and the decision to show Abe’s mutilated head midway into the audibly nauseating scene was overkill.

For others. Honestly, as gruesome as the scene was, there was some beauty in it, an almost ethereal beauty. Flitting about the carnage, it was definitely there, just hard to see and even harder to grasp. But then again, I was raised on horror movies like Evil Dead (the original trilogy, thank you very much) so I can stare long and hard at gore and begin to analyze where others might be reaching for their barfbags.

In summation, Abraham was Lucille’d and the half-a-year long mystery was solved. At this point, most people, while shellshocked and thoroughly disgusted, began to breathe a sigh of deep relief. Why? Because although part of the ‘main’ cast by this point, Abraham was still far out the category of ‘top 5’ for a majority of the fans who simultaneously felt bad that Abe had died, because a death like that is just naturally sad, and relieved that Abe had died, because it wasn’t their favorite.

It’s here that I start to chuckle. Because, in a move that ensured The Walking Dead would retain high viewership throughout the season, Negan went and did something completely unexpected.

He Lucille’d Glenn.

That’s right, a two-for-the-price-of-one special. Just like poor Abe, Glenn also had a date booked with dear old Lucille. And his encounter was the one that truly traumatized fans across the land.

Because Glenn had been a favorite. Glenn had been a staple in the story. Since the very beginning he was there, he was the one who saved Rick, for crying out loud! Glenn had integral purpose and character and he held his own more often than not. Unlike Abraham, who had his backstory revealed via flashback, we had literally traveled miles together with Glenn, watching as he matured from a scared “glass-half-full” survivor of the zombie apocalypse to this pillar-stone of loyalty and hope. He WAS Glenn.

And now, Glenn is no more.

That sobering realization carries a weight far more heinous than any death before now in the series. The way he was struck down so suddenly and out the blue was the stab that nearly stopped every fans heart, and that stab only served to dig deeper when Glenn climbed back up, just as Abe had, except… his initial first-contact with Lucille had been so much worse. His head was cracked open, one of his eyes was bulging out, you could see the torment in his face as he struggled to talk. He called for his pregnant wife, “Maggie… I’ll come find you….”

It was gut-wrenching, even by my standards.

Despite knowing the inevitable, there was some naive little part of me that believed Glenn would pull through this, that if he got help in enough he’d be okay. But no. Negan was only content to let Glenn suffer for few minutes before another home-run crack at the skull knocked him sideways. And then the real beating began as Negan proceeded to bash Glenn’s skull into literal paste, which he accomplished with several well-placed swings. I honestly forgot how to breathe halfway through, that’s how much the moment disturbed me, and those eye-twitching cracks as Glenn’s skull gave up the fight and shattered. And, as if that wasn’t nightmare-inducing enough, not only did we fans get an up-close and personal view of the mush that remained of Glenn’s head, but when Negan was finally through, hanging from the end of Lucille was a straggle of flesh.

Arguably, this was worse than the Red Wedding.

It was worse and yet oh so much better. The obvious goal here was to show Negan establishing some very basic ground rules. He was in charge. And they achieved that in droves. Traumatizing the audience was just a bonus.

And you know what makes Glenn’s heartbreaking fate all the more enraging? All the more just… pull your hair out frustrating?

The fact that he didn’t even do anything to warrant his own death!

As a man of his word, Negan had previously warned them that he doesn’t tolerate disobedience, that he “will shut that shit down, no exceptions”. And he proved that by doing away with one of Rick’s group (see: Abe) as penance for their killing fifty(50!) of his men. Not exactly equivalent exchange but, hey, we fans don’t want anyone to die. But, and here’s where the kicker comes in at, the pivotal moment that set everyones britches on fire, right after Negan finished grandslamming Abe’s head into a unrecognizable chunk, he turned the bat to Rosita after assuming that she was his lover. After commanding her to look at the bat dripping with Abe’s brain matter, and after she understandably refused to do so, BAM! Daryl punches Negan right square in the face.

A short squabble later, Negan decides against killing Daryl because “he’s got moxie” (and possibly because Daryl is the series lovable cash cow) which instantly calmed millions of fans who, for one brief and intense second, just knew Daryl was going to catch the bat. Alas no, not him, but because of that one moment of recklessness, Negan had to hold true to his earlier claim.

Because he wants you to know that if nothing else, he’s an honest man of his word.

And thus, Glenn caught the surprise blow that hit us just as hard as it did him.

So, now that the nail-biting mystery is solved, now that we know who’s gone and who remains, I feel we can finally do as Negan said earlier.

We can breathe. We can blink. We can cry.

The Ending: “Welcome to a brand new beginning, you sorry shits.”

Overall, this was one hell of a premiere. It was just bursting at the seams with enough sadistic imagery to send any sane person backflipping toward an insane asylum. You’re breathless, stricken with grief and rage, you want closure and there is none, you want Negan to die and he just won’t, you want to wake up and realize this whole episode never happened but it did. This is our reality now, as Walking Dead fans. And the literal ‘gore’ was only about one-third of this agonizing torment-flavored pie, believe it or not. Another one-third goes to the crushing loss we feel at losing our precious comrades, and the last third? The absolutely tortured way in which Rick had to prostrate himself before Negan, who went above and beyond the call of simple ‘mindfuckery’ to break Rick down like Lucille broke Glenn’s cranium and get him to relinquish all control, all hope.

And that’s sort of how you feel coming away from this episode. Like there’s no hope. And maybe there really isn’t. Only time, and the recovery strength of Rick and his groups resolve, will tell. But for right now, I think it’s time we bid Glenn a fond farewell.

Rest easy, glass-half-full kinda guy. Your journey’s over now.
